Wed Sep 07, 2011 5:58 pm | Dragonaion | Gaiaonline is a very enjoyable website if you don't mind dealing with a younger age group. While the site is fairly unknown, it appears that most of their members are of a younger age group. It is hard to find good Roleplayers there, and if anything that is the place to go for quick entertainment. Also, the avatars are very fun to dress up and there are many clothes options, although for the 'cooler' styles real money is needed to buy "Gaia Cash" which is very disappointing. All in all it is an enjoyable site, but I haven't truly been committed to the website. |

Wed Sep 08, 2010 5:10 pm | PearlFrush | A mixed bag would be a good way to describe gaiaonline. I've had some of the best roleplays of my life, and some of the worst roleplays. From obsessive partners trying to track me down and make me RP with them, to fantastic writers with a big future ahead of them. I think the speed of the site also directly depends on who's in school and who isn't. A huge flow of members are people who are above fifteen and below twenty. So a lot of good roleplayers might go away for the summer, or perhaps the worst are on more than ever. I suppose it all just depends on how lucky you are. Though when you're absolutely struggling on whether or not you should go back, dressing up your avatar is always fun. It's nice to see how creative you can get with the design! |

Tue Jul 13, 2010 2:43 am | Strude | As a member of gaia online for six years I've seen the sites ups and downs. Specifically in the roleplaying department. Though, the sites avatar system is fun, engaging, entertaining and a nice way to give users a sense of identity, within such a vast community. It does not make up for the fact that gaias RPing community it a dodgy one at best. Over the last four years Gaia has gone down hill in respects to roleplaying. If you're looking for thoroughly planned, unique and properly constructed roleplays I wouldn't try Gaia. Though, such roleplays do exist they are harder to find. Many gaians (including myself) spend most of our time seeking our the golden nuggets, but rarely are they seen and even rarer yet do such roleplays succeed or last. But if you're looking for one on one partners for private roleplay sessions Gaia is a good place to look. The site has many players seeking their fair share in RPing partners. You are likely to find someone who suits you in no time. While the same can be said about the array of casual group RPs which take place on the site too (many fandom based RPs tend to be a focus of the site given the day/night.) But again those thoroughly engaging RPs are a rarity. I believe one of the downfalls (in a sense) of the site is the age bracket it caters to. Most users on the site are within the 12-18yo rage and the quality of roleplays seen supports this fact. However, if you're into fast pace roleplays. Enjoy creating your avatar, gaining gold via traversing the site (including posting) to make your avatar look even cooler (or make your aquarium, dragcar, or house look spectacular.) Then this interactive, muti-interest site is for you. Just remember it's pretty fast pace given the forum you find yourself in! I give gaia a 7/10. Mostly because the site has its merits and though I don't always have the highest regards for its RPing community. The site is still very engaging, interactive and there is always something to do. Even if you're not RPing you will always find something else to keep you busy. It's why I've been on the site for so many years. All in all Gaia is a good place to hang! |

Thu Jul 08, 2010 7:17 pm | GreyThespian | It's greatest attribute is probably it's sheer volume. While it has a wide range of RPs, it seems to be the sort of site with very scattered energy levels, as opposed to a refined, focused one. I was a member but I've stopped posting recently. The variety of RPs is nice, and you're bound to find something you like, but unfortunately you are also likely to find some dodgey or inactive ones. While it's a nice place for random creativity, and the avatar system is a neat accessory, in my experience it is not somewhere that maintains a standard of original or interesting Role Plays. You are more likely to find scraps of interesting ideas with only a limited number of members contributing to it, rather than one large, popular idea that's been worked on and refined by a group of members, and then joined by a dozen or so players. Overall, it's nice for casual one-lining or finding something specific to your interests, but not somewhere that you can rely on for good quality stuff. |

Fri Dec 04, 2009 3:17 pm | LawOfTheLand | The community is very large (as befits a forum based off of a web RPG more than anything), and therefore it's quite easy to get lost in the crowd. I can appreciate how you can select the level of how much you want to be sheltered in the user control panel by selecting what gets filtered on your screen, what images are shown and which ones are merely linked to, and so forth, but the idea of forcing people to browse and post on the forums to get Gaia Gold for the purposes of avatar customization is at best unique and at worst absurd. (You can also use RL money to get Gaia Cash for exclusive items.) Haven't yet played the game, but as far as their RPing goes, the good ones seem to be a dying breed. |

Fri Jan 13, 2012 1:11 pm | Exodyus | Between the one-liners and having to pay for things out of pocket to get nothing in return, the site is hardly a role playing or writing site and shouldn't even really be considered as one. Youthful drama and incessant, unless spam kills the atmosphere for anyone trying to actually find a humble place to settle down. No respect is given anywhere and lack of ability really places this site on the bottom of any forum I've ever been apart of. | 1 |
