Mon Apr 16, 2012 9:40 pm | Schizophrenic | I've been with this site for a while now, and I have no complaints. The system that WTFRPG offers is easy to use, aesthetically pleasing and overall impressive compared to what most sites have to offer. Doesn't matter what you are looking for, you can find it there; one on one, forum style or fully featured! Store your characters, games, journals... anything. Ever since I became a member on this site it has been impossible for me to move onto anything else. |

Sun Oct 21, 2012 2:16 pm | Xavirne | The last time I wrote a review for this was back when I first joined the site. Things have changed since then so I figured my review needed updating. I still adore the site's layout and I do love the organizational aspect of it all. There is a nice mix of older roleplayers as well as younger and a wide range of levels (beginners to advanced writers). Furthermore, it does accommodate both sides, allowing for those 18+ to engage in mature/adult-themed stories. It can be slow at times and, sometimes, you will find some overlap in roleplay themes. But, for the most part, there is a pretty diverse mix of topics and stories to pick from, assuming you're not going to make your own. And now for the negative. Friction. It's easy to find, especially if you're on the other side of the spectrum from others. Although it is a work in progress, moderators are still able to bend the rules in their favor and do not always perform in a light that is safe to mimic. Just remember the golden rule and you should be okay (Do unto others as you would have them do unto you). There a slew of personal reasons I can list here but, rather than listing my experiences and deterring your joining, I will give you the tips I currently follow that can give you an older user's view on the site's changes: 1 - Avoid the out of character sections if you are prone to "taking things to heart." 2 - Avoid expressing opinions that go against the views of the mods. Keep your differing comments to yourself. 3 - Monitor your posts and try to keep them PG so you don't ever have to worry about falling into that gray area between PG-13 and R. 4 - Don't make a ton of roleplays one right after another, as there are a few people on there that take offense to your enthusiasm and passion. Wait about a week before starting up another story. 5 - Don't take offense if you're not automatically a part of a specific click. There are users on the site that DO socialize with people outside their friend group and will gladly befriend you. If your comments or posts are being ignored, just follow the previous four suggestions. Overall, I still enjoy this site. It's not my favorite place anymore due to particular happenings but it's still better than most of the other site's I've joined. I will admit that I am usually one to take things to heart and I'm prone to getting not only dramatic but also defensive. So, perhaps, my issues are entirely my fault but, still, different actions should have been taken by the moderation to prevent things from getting as out of hand as they did. I used to be on there 24/7. WTF was my life. Since this incident, I've pulled back and stopped talking to people. I guess, at this point, it's up to you to decide whether or not it's right for you. It's one of those "hit or miss sites." You either love it or you hate it (it includes the layout, the people, and the staff). So, if WTF right for you? |

Thu Jul 04, 2013 2:10 am | Strude | I have been a member of WTF since 2011, and was a moderator for a year. I personally enjoy the site for the full feature roleplay system; similar to RPGateway though with less features. However, the feature they have I feel are better and the layout/visual appeal is greater. The site itself regarding other functions are standard to every board and I enjoy how it works as a whole. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This said there are some limitation to the site. Some notable ones: the tagging system for full feature roleplays is lacking and could be refined; though this isn???t a major or critical element and the system they have works it simply isn???t as user-friendly as it could be. The full feature tab also lacks the ability or sort between group and one on one games; a feature I feel would help the board as there are many one on one games and few groups. It can be hard to easily locate active groups between the hubbub. The board itself has no real issues with threads the forums being rather standard and what you expect from a board. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The community of the site, those that are active are generally nice, pleasant, and encouraging. If you are able to find a niche the site definitely serves its function to provide you with roleplays. Outside of the particular cliques and groups that simply attend the site to roleplay, the community or group portions of the site are lacking and tend towards superficial and tedious conversation that dies out quickly. The willingness of members to participate in group functions on the board is barely there at best. Most non-RP or semi-RP related content is generally ignored and only a select few members participate in the events members attempt to hold for the community. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Having dealt with the site as a member and a moderator there is some definite strife and very, very subtle infighting (or personal grudges you can feel in the way some users address one another). Although, this tension does not affect every user on the board and can be attributed to a select group of users. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The moderator and administration staff is poor, and that is putting it lightly. WTF was created as a pet project for a now ex-admin of the site, and funded and maintained by one individual whose only interaction with the site is to maintain the server and address coding issues in their free time. The current active admin who deals with the community is tedious to deal with, having a tendency towards leaving the site how it is instead of moving forward and developing it. This particular admin is nice, pleasant, and non-threatening, but their lack of initiative and enthusiasm is disheartening. Many useful, critical and insightful suggestions are ignored and silly, superficial and useless ideas have been responded to and administered. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The site as a whole feel stagnant requiring major changes the current administrator is unwilling to address. The community is lacking and could use a bit of spice and life, but overall will provide you with RPs if that is all you are looking for. The forums function like most forums do. The full feature RP system is good, it works, is does what it needs to but in the long run could be developed more to incorporate even more options for creating a games. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I give WTF a 5/10 because of the current stagnant state, and if it were a better attended and developed site I would rate it far higher. |
