The Gods predate man. Their reign powerful, eternal and revered. But since the dawn of the Gods, there have always been those sworn to end Olympus. The golden throne, the seat of the righteous, king of the Gods, Zeus. It is the core of their world. Many seek to destroy it, dethrone Zeus and end the reign of the Gods.

Camp Athens, a safe place for demigods, children of the Gods. A place for them to live, grow and train. That was the intent. The demigods were never supposed to be the warriors for the Gods. Their parents wanted them to grow up safe from the world that threatens to end them. But the ruler of the Underworld, Hades, sought after the golden throne for himself, the demigods had no choice but to fight.

The campers faced many trials that tested them on levels far greater than they ever imaged. It was but the first day of the summer, demigods flooding into the camp, when a minotaur stormed its way through. A distraction while a son of Zeus, Ajax, was stabbed by an Underworld blade and poisoned. When things seemed to die down, it was only the quiet before the storm. Ajax was later taken prisoner by Hades, only set free when his soul was taken from him in exchange for a daughter of Hecate.

And all the while, when some of the most powerful demigods were nowhere to be found, the rest of the campers had to band together to take down their toughest foe… A Hydra. Then there was death… at the hands of a God and at the hands of a daughter of Zeus. It seemed, when at their weakest, Hades attacked.

The war. Something the demigods had been preparing for, but never thought would come. Giants and minions flooded their way onto the grounds of camp. The Gods stood side by side with their children in a fight for Olympus. It tested them more than anything had before… And in the end, they succeeded. But not without great loss. Wounded, weak and broken, the demigods came together victorious.

It’s been a year since that war. New demigods have found their way to the camp. The heroes of the war found ways to cope with their losses and train harder. Although the war is over, no one can rest. Something lurks in the distance, like a storm on the horizon. They don’t know what it is or when it will come… But they must be ready.

WIPs will not be accepted x / / x WIP tends to lead to people assuming they do not have to complete CS. So, due to that I will not accept a character until the CS is completely finished. It helps us and you to have a fully flushed out character before you post. Password 1 : Who was stabbed with an underworld blade?

Demigods x / / x There will only be two demigods per God. This keeps the number of characters at a balanced manageable level. Discussion could be made to potentially add another God, but we don't want to overload the RP. Also the deceased campers will remain, and prohibit the possibility of a new camper their place. Their life and death had significance in the first year of Camp Athens, and for other reasons it is necessary.

Reservations x / / x Reserving a character will be done through the OOC discussion board. All reservations must include the God/Goddess you intend as the parent, FC, how often you are online and average word count per post; along with the answers to the passwords. If you want more than one character you are welcome. But, if you would like to reserve both child of a single god you must ask. Depending on the circumstances it may not work for diversity's sake.

Character Guidelines x / / x Throughout the balancing of the characters, a good mix of male and female roles would be appreciated. That doesn't necessarily mean each God has a male and female child, but that throughout an even amount would help the RP be balanced. Ideally, FCs should look close to the age of your character. Abilities shall be taken from the provided list. If you are wanting your character to have an ability not listed, please contact me and we shall discuss it.

Inactivity x / / x Inactivity and ghosting is a plague in RPG. It seems people cannot stick to RPs for the life of them. I get it, life happens... It happens to all of us. But, we all want RPs to succeed. The first year of Camp Athens made it to the end, but by that day there was only 5 writers out of the numerous that were originally part of the RP. So, that being said, if life happens please just contact us and let us know, we are very understanding. If you're MIA from OOC, posting or PMs without explanation or word, we do reserve the right to write past your character if it's keeping us in limbo. I'd rather you back out of the RP versus disappearing. Password 2 : Which Demigods are deceased?

General Rules x / / x Violence, adult language and adult situations will happen so if you cannot handle that you may not want to join. I encourage romance, it’s fun and we all enjoy complicated romance stories. Kissing and what not is fine, but when this get handsy... or naked. Just fade to black, and have your characters imply it later or whatever. We have imaginations, plus site rules and stuff :p Don’t control someone else’s character without their ok, this includes their NPCs. Also this meant to be fun so please no OOC fighting. Any issues can be directed through me and I'll handle it :)

Kohana paused while chewing, slightly impressed that Daniel ascertained that she wasn't from mainland US. She smiled and swallowed what food was left in her mouth. "Yeah it is. I'm from Hawaii; thanks for asking." Kohana turned her attention back to the food that beckoned her. Daniel introduced himself one of Hecate's children. She chewed and pondered over everything she could remember from her mythology class she took as an elective some months prior. Daniel held out his hand and Koa shook it, grinning though her cheeks were a bit full.

"Are you two twins?" Kohana's eyes went wide as she gulped down her food in surprise. The half chewed granola and nuts went down with a painful tinge as her eyes darted between Daniel and Nelly. She sighed in relief as she realized the joke. Koa joined in their laughter, quickly returning to her food. "It would be cool if we were related though." Koa grinned at the ease that came with that statement. Maybe letting her know would be less crazy thank Koa originally guessed. She listened as Nelly spoke of her mother and Hermes. It was nice to know that Hermes wasn't in a hurry to let her know of her divine parent either, though he waited much longer in Koa's case. As the two conversed about the party, Kohana ate her food. She was a very fast eater, so within a minute a good amount of it had already been devoured.

"So being one of Hermes kids, have you ever been to prison?" Koa smirked at the joke letting Nelly answer as she kept eating. As the two conversed, Koa managed to finished everything except the remnants of her oatmeal. Koa looked around at the others filing in and out of the building. Honestly, there were more people here than she'd expected. When Hermes said it was a camp, Koa imagined one similar to a camp she'd been to in high school. This place was far from that though.

"Would you like to be training buddies today? Or if you've got friends, you know, invite them along, we'll make our own group." Koa lit up at the mention of training. Seeing as she didn't know the place well, the prospect of seeing some training areas was exciting. "That sounds like a great idea. Kinda new too so no new friends as of yet, but I'm definitely up for a workout."

She probably felt strong for him once, but now she had to run to her friend since Ajax lacked the love she needed. Losing her was cutting deeper than he liked to admit, but to her... he let her go like he didn't love her anymore.

Scenes of them together raced through his head like movie clips, and so did the imaginative scenes of her and Mason. If he hadn't lost anything before, he sure as hell had now.

But he didn't. He just allowed her to slip away. No wonder she couldn't stand to be around him anymore. She was still the most beautiful, kind, and loving person he had ever known and yet... he still allowed her to drift away from him.

Image More memories played out. He had placed his forehead to her own, her hand hooked around the back of his neck. As they both closed their eyes, Andy whispered for him to breathe with her. He placed his right hand to the top of her arm and stroked it as he copied her breathes. Slowly he began to quite down the anger that raged inside of him, all the pain he felt, all the blame for allowing so many lives last year to be lost. It as Andy who had helped to get back to being normal again, to forgive himself for all that he couldn't control. "I promise I will never leave you." she whispered. Ajax nodded a little before he titled his mouth up to hers to kiss her.

Image That small bit of happiness he felt reliving that moment had soon gone as he could see Andy a lot closer to Mason than he liked.

For such a long time he always had a inkling that she preferred to be with Mason, that she was only with himself as Mason didn't want to be in a relationship at the time. This one girl, the daughter of Hecate had brought out feelings he didn't think he was capable of. Jealousy was the main one since Mason had been lurking around her.

Still, even now he felt grateful that he had even gotten a moment to share his life with her. She had caused him to be vulnerable around her, and that was something he didn't like. It made him feel weak, and powerless... but she had been worth it. He stuck by her until she just couldn't handle his constant back and forth of blowing hot and cold. He loved her still... that was evident.

Everything he had heard outside the infirmary, made Ajax walk towards them in no time. He couldn't hold it in any longer. 'Screw it', he thought. He had nothing else to lose.

Image Without hesitation Ajax threw his right fist forward towards Mason's face, hitting him straight in the nose.

He took a couple of steps back and pushed up his sleeves. "I should have done that a long time ago." Ajax told him. He couldn't lie, it felt good to finally get his hands on him, but now he'd no doubt look as unhinged as his sister was. "I'm sorry... " he paused as he watched her in silence, cupping the right side of her face as his thumb stroked her cheek slowly. He dropped his hand, and as he walked away he swallowed firmly. He wanted to tell her how much he loved her, how much he didn't want her to let go of what they once had, for them both to fight for one another. But he needed to leave, he needed to get away.

She didn't need him afterall. She had already begun to move on. That sunshine she once was for him through the rain had died.

"We need to leave now." Ajax told his sister, who quickly grabbed her rucksack. Ares had planned to stay back for Duke, allowing both Zeus's children to leave since they could fly anyway.

The entire journey to Mount Olympus, Ajax couldn't help but wonder if Andy would ever forgive him. Especially now he had punched Mason and gave her some lame ass apology before he left. She probably didn't even know he had gone yet. Would she see him as a coward? Too weak to face up to his responsiblities, so he found it easier to run? But he wasn't running, he just needed to get himself and Alex away from it all to allow themselves to breathe, to take a step back and refind themselves. Especially his sister who had derailed way too many times.

Mount Olympus hadn't changed since their last visit during the trials, but it felt like they could both relax now. Here, they wouldn't be judged. Ajax let out a sigh. "We'll be okay." Alex tried to reassure him as she took hold of his hand and walked side by side toward the main temple where they'd find their father.

"I didn't know I had options." The words temporarily stopped whatever train of though crossed Andy's mind. She kept her head facing her lap, but her gaze slowly drifted over toward him. Was she an option? Up until the night before, she never knew what was going on in Mason's head, and to some extent, she still didn't. She often thought the anger he often directed toward her stemmed from the thought that she could do better. But a large portion of that seemed to come from his hatred of Ajax, nothing more. But the kiss they shared changed everything.

Perhaps some of Mason's anger grew from somewhere else? A place where he saw her as more than a friend? Andy doubted that he considered himself as a better option compared to Ajax. Mason chastised her for being his friend and dealing with his shit nearly as much as he did about her being with Ajax. It was never easy knowing what he was thinking. He was an enigma, and unless he was plain with her, Andy often grasped at straws to get a sliver of an idea of how he felt.

When she mentioned just wanting him to find happiness, Mason smiled and reached over to take her hand. "Thank you." Andy returned his smile with her own before he continued. "Because I'm going to ask her to marry me."

Quickly, her smile turned to a sneer as her brows furrowed. Andy went to yank her hand away from him, but Mason's grasp tightened in a gentle squeeze. She looked back over at him to find the asshole grinning at, what he probably thought was, a clever joke. "You're such a jerk," she said with an exhausted laugh and a shake of her head.

"Andy, do Eve and I look like a happy couple?"

She was as good of a judge of that as Mason was of her own past relationship. "I... don't know. All I saw was her seemingly enamored by you." She shrugged her shoulders. "And the part where you mentioned spending the night with her." Andy sighed softly as she let her gaze drift toward anything but Mason. The thought of him and Eve having sex churned her stomach. But she said nothing. It wasn't her place. It was hypocritical enough for it to bother her the way it did.

"You haven't always been the easiest person to read. I know when you're upset," she laughed weakly. "You've never been scared to share that with me." The corner of her lips tugged back into a tight smile. "But, you've never told me what makes you happy."

"Honestly I think it will take a while until I'm even content with my life again." Andy saddened at the thought as her gaze fell to where he held her hand. She couldn't recall the last time he seemed happy.

For the past year she lived in a haze of depression and grief. It took her months to even pull herself out enough to realize a fraction of what was wrong or what she wanted. And in that fog she clung to Mason like a life line, yet didn't fully grasp his level of unhappiness. Some friend she was. Andy exhaled softly as her thumb lightly tapped his hand. "What would make you happy?" She asked before meeting his gaze.

After awhile, the heaviness of the conversation dissipated and Mason moved to his feet. He grabbed her bag and then offered his other arm toward her. "You ready to face the world again? This place is getting gloomier by the minute."

Andy smiled as she let out a relieving sigh. "I thought you were going to keep me on lock down until I recovered." She took a deep breath, preparing herself before she slid her arm around his. It took her a minute to get enough momentum to pull herself out of the bed with Mason's help. She felt like so wobbly, like one good gust of wind could knock her over. But she was determined to be ok. She wanted more than anything to be out of the infirmary. Even if that just meant bed rest in her own cabin while Mason, Daniel and Trinity worried over her like concerned parents.

They hadn't been walking long, or gotten very far with her slow poke ass, before Mason cleared his throat to continue the conversation. "Sorry for making you choose a side sometimes." Their paced slowed until they came to a stop and she looked over at him. "I know I've put you in some spots and it's not okay." To anyone else it might have seemed small, but to Andy, that made a world of a difference. Since she got to camp, she constantly felt like Mason and Ajax would constantly tugging at her, pulling her in different directions and forcing her to choose. It weighed heavily on her, for a long time. So, while it might have seemed like just another apology, it was so much more to her. She gave his arm a gentle squeeze and smiled in a silent 'I forgive you.'

Mason then leaned toward her, speaking softly into her ear. "I mean technically I've targetted Alex and all would be well if Ajax didn't get involved but...I shouldn't expect so much." She laughed softly while rolling her eyes and shaking her head. Of course, he couldn't leave it there.

Whatever smile might have been on her face quickly fell when she saw Ajax walking toward them sternly, with purpose. Andy felt her heart sink as he got closer and she saw the anger, and sadness on his face. One day. Just one day without fighting. That's all she wanted. But when he got close he didn't stop. There was no yelling or scolding. Without hesitation Ajax brought back his fist before throwing it forward right into Mason's nose.

The force sent Mason tumbling backwards and Andy along with him, until they both fell to the ground with a thud. Mason broke some of her fall as she half landed on him, but that didn't help it hurt any less as the collision triggered every sore muscle. She slowly sat herself up with weak arms that trembled under her own body weight. Once Andy managed to get to her knees, she looked over at Mason to see him bleeding heavily from his nose. "What the hell, Ajax!?"

"I should have done that a long time ago." Andy slowly closed her eyes as she exhaled. Her face showed the exhaustion and frustration at this endless feud that kept going in endless circles. "I'm sorry..." And then there was silence. She slowly brought herself to look up at him as she blinked back tears. Ajax lowered his hand to cup the right side of her face while his thumb stroked her cheek.

Then his hand fell and he walked away. Andy didn't move. She just knelt there in silence as she watched him walk away. Part of her wanted to call after him but she couldn't find the words. He was sorry? Sorry for what? For punching Mason? Not coming to see her in the infirmary? For taking his sister's side over hers? The questions flooded her mind but all she got was the retreating form of Ajax. And not once did he look back at her.

Andy looked back toward Mason. The sight of his bleeding and probably broken nose quickly brought her back to the situation at hand. "Oh gods," she gasped. She slide her hands under his head and gently lifted it off the ground. It took more strength than she cared to admit, but that was the last thing on her mind. She scooted closer and rested his head on her lap, keeping it elevated so he doesn't choke on the blood. Trying not to move him too much, Andy grabbed her bag from the ground. She pulled out the first piece of clothing she could find and gently pressed it to his nose.

After a long minute, she slowly moved her other hand cup the side of his face as she looked down at him. Andy blamed herself. Her emotions were all over the place. She didn't know how she felt about Ajax anymore and her new, more repressed, feelings for Mason confused her even more. If she wasn't a sinking ship that took everything down with her, this wouldn't have happened. "This is all my fault," she mumbled under her breath as a tear ran down her cheek.

Iliana waited for Trinity to answer and thankfully she didn't have to wait long.

“His name's Liam and he is...capable of inflicting Sylas's injuries and worse.”

That wasn't a straight answer, but Iliana didn't press. It didn't really occur to her that this wasn't her business, she was just concerned for those around her. She would have thought about it more, but Trinity placed her hands around Iliana's arms and she instantly froze. She wasn't used to human contact and the last time someone touched her that she wasn't familiar with were her tormentors. Instantly she shuddered and shook a bit. She barely registered Trinity's words about staying away from Sylas. She also told her to trust her instincts, but by this point, Iliana had completely withdrawn within herself. Wes's voice soon penetrated her walls.

"It's not our business to share what's going on. The best advice I can give you is to lie low and not butt into other people's problems. Nothing good comes from it. It'll just drag you down with them. And people at here aren't fond of people trying to interject themselves into their shit. You're better off without all of the drama. Trust me."

Trinity added by not doing anything rash before letting her go. Iliana took a deep breath. She was glad she didn't do anything rash at that moment. She always feared hurting someone with her powers again. Turning to Wes, she heard him say that if she wanted to know still, to go ask Sloane. Iliana thought about that, but decided not to push it. Plus Sloane probably wanted to be alone right now. Soon she became distracted when Trinity kissed Wes. Blushing, she looked away. Living a sheltered life, she wasn't use to seeing such things. Hearing Trinity walk away, she looked back at Wes.

"I'm going to go try to fix some of this. Try not to worry yourself over it. Be happy this mess doesn't involve you."

With that, Wes waved and left Iliana. All alone, Iliana finally took the time to think about the situation as a whole. So Liam was capable of hurting Sylas. If Liam was anything like his sister though, that meant he had to have some decency to him, but also had a temper. Deciding she would follow Wes and Trinity's advice, she wouldn't try to find out more about the situation. They were right, it didn't involve her. However, she couldn't lie either. If someone was in pain, she would try to help that person.

Wondering what she should do now, Iliana started wondering and found herself heading for the infirmary. Looking up she saw Mason and Andy exit the building. It was a relief to see she was on her feet. But before Iliana could make herself known to the pair, she saw Ajax appear. Instinctively, she hid behind a tree, picking up Ajax's anger, even though it was faint from where she was. What she saw next caused her to gasp for Ajax hit Mason. He then approached Andy and cupped her face before leaving. Seeing Andy seeing to Mason, Iliana found herself following Ajax. Looked like he was heading for one of the cabins. This was probably his cabin. She wasn't surprised to see Alex there. What did surprise her though was the chariot and Ares. Soon the chariot left with the siblings, but Ares stayed behind. Her curious nature getting the best of her, Iliana approached Ares. The god always intimidated her, so she would keep this brief.

~Where are they going?~

Ares merely replied, "To stay in Olympus for a bit. That's all you need to know Iliana. Move along now."

Nodding, Iliana quickly left. She suddenly wanted to find her brother and Ethan. Problem was, she didn't know where they were. Maybe they were all the Hall now? They should have been done with their job by now. Decision made, Iliana started heading for the hall.

Image He had come to accept Liv as a somewhat mysterious and unabashed individual who felt no need to justify what she said or her actions. But sometimes, he would love to get in her head and see what she meant, how she really felt. For example, why for a few seconds he all but felt devoured under her eyes. It wasn't enough to be uneasy around the environment but Liv herself was now adding to his self-consciousness.

Duke stole glances over his shoulder and around to check where Liv was. Not so much to save him from the water but because she was unpredictable and the commander of the element he was treking deeper into. Although he tried to believe, she wasn't unhinged and reckless. Entirely. It didn't take long at all to lose sight of her until she surfaced inches away from him. Duke's head jerked back startled again by her unapologetic and deviant behaviour. He almost put his hands on her to guide her a more appropriate distance apart but she probably wasn't a fan of man handling and it may be an implication that he was intimidated by the petite company.

Then she truly did the unexpected. "My father says that I'm not the daughter that he wanted. That... I could never be better than his sons." It was disarming when Liv finally opened up. Duke opened his mouth a few times to argue they weren’t all alike and Poseidon’s perception of her was unfair but his mouth clamped shut in a tight line waiting for Liv to say her whole piece uninterrupted. But it only got more alarming when she pressed against him and he automatically backed away. "Gods fear my father, and... I am beginning to believe that the iron fist rules mightiest than the velvet glove."

"So you want to be known as threatening and for evoking fear? You have to be better than that." Coming from Duke, it was a desperate plea. He always thought the daughter of Poseidon stood out for her single-mindedness. He'd never guess her to want to fit into the god's shadow or fetch approval so badly.

She only persisted in pushing him further back, Duke's eyes fixed on Liv's dark pair. But somewhere he had to draw the line. His hands came up finally gripping her upper arms, unbeknownst to him too late. "Liv.." he began. "Come on, be better than this." The seduction to conform to godly impulses was too easy and it ran in all their bloods. Sex, punishment and revenge, reckless power demonstrations, murder. There had to be some demigods that broke the cycle.

A certain something brushed by his leg making him stiffen. He looked through the water to inspect the undeniable source but Liv cupped his face. "Oh, Duke - there's so much more to fear than drowning. The children of Poseidon command all in the sea's domain." A feeling of doom hit him. There was no time for retaliation before she pushed him and suddenly he was submerged.

The first reaction was to surface. Scramble for air. Sharp pricks on his arms prevented him from swimming up immediately. All around him were a swarm of seemingly agitated snakes, an amount he had never seen in one vicinity before. When taken under the rule was to remain calm and when faced with predators, supposedly the same. He didn’t know he could play the patient game when he was losing oxygen though. His eyes burned and he squeezed them shut the same time he braced to swim through the thicket of snakes. His limbs were met with more bites and constrictions, his movements encouraging the serpents only to squeeze tighter until he felt numb.

Duke forced his eyes open again trying to rip a particularly peristent snake from coiling firmer around his leg. These creatures were smarter than usual...more coordinated.

Air. Air. His lungs burned. He desperately needed to breathe again. He was losing his fight. It became a struggle. His body naturally soared in temperature, some bred defence mechanism. That was it. Even for the cold blooded creatures there was such thing as too hot. He didn't need flames just needed to embody intense heat. Heat rose. With more consciousness involved Duke began to spread the temperature through his veins. Some were repelled from the heat he was giving off and he took that opening to kick and stroke with what power remained in his muscles.

A flurry of bubbles almost obstructed his vision but he knew up and up was the way to go. He gasped when finally his head reached above water, paddling desperately to keep himself above it. Duke located shore and headed for it.

Somehow he managed to haul himself to the shallows then collapsed on all fours, coughing and spluttering all the while trying to suck in breaths for air still. The adversary left him pale, chest heaving, droplets of water with a steady stream of blood sliding down his body from where bites littered his skin. There was a predominent sting on his side, making him wince and grunt. One of Liv's pet's still latched onto his hip hissing, body flailing to try wrap around Duke's large torso in vain. He pinched below the snake's head with his index and thumb giving the creature a chance to suffocate or let go. Nature chose the later and Duke tossed it back to sea.

Duke glared up at Liv, a murderous edge to his look. He wanted training not a death wish. There was such thing as too far but apparently she didn't care. "You made your choice then?" he asked. Because somehow and in some way he still hoped the daughter of Poseidon hadn't chosen to get her dad's attention in such a way. That she could be independent beyond anything and moody. Not a desperate murderous daddy's girl. But if he looked at the circumstances...felt how badly his body burned and how close to drowning he came...of course she made her choice.

He turned away from her coughing out the last bit of ingested water. The rumbling and lights from the sky reminded him he had to get moving. Reluctant as he was. He shakily got to his feet without looking at her again. The thing with Liv was he was more disappointed because he placed blind faith in her. Considering she wasn't a fan of Trintiy and Alex what she just pulled was no better than those girls' lack of boundaries.

Respect wasn't earned between the two but he couldn't just walk off on her without her understanding why - in addition to nearly killing him. "Mm...Powerful but...'hought you were smart. Better..." he panted struggling to keep his eyes open. Struggling to stand on his own two feet. He got about two steps into the sand before collapsing again not able to catch himself this time. A dark haze clouded his vision and took over his mind.

Image "I had a great time, despite how it ended. I don't think I did so well with that game though. I never played it before. It got pretty awkward between Sylas and I hehe. What was the purpose of it? I know you and Cherise were in there and ya'll looked pretty happy exiting. Maybe you can explain to me what was suppose to happen?"

Daniel's face went from brows furrowed in confusion to a smile as some red tinted his cheeks. "There's no set in stone rule but most people..." he began, looking at Kohana for support, hoping she'd chip in. "tend to use the time and privacy to kiss. Or do what your heart or body desire. I'm surprised he didn't try anything." Granted, Daniel didn't know the guy but he came off super smug and using a participant or two in a closet didn't seem beyond him. But he was relieved for Nelly. Providing she wasn't developing a little crush.

Next came the question about how often they got force trained, the two girls suddenly possessing a new spark of energy making Daniel smile. Also neither of them could really help themselves from mentioning the lack of friends, though it was more an off hand comment made by him. "Rarely. Normally staff run events or ‘major exercises’ to test our skills, force us to bond but otherwise it’s up to us really. You could always contribute to the suggestion box." He opened his palm and gestured to it, as if the daughters of Hermes would scribble something down immediately and place it into his hand. Daniel was the man that could make things happen after all. And he would seriously pitch to staff if it was something Daniel thought would be more the merrier. Or the more the more chaotic and troublesome.

"Also," Daniel raised a finger, turning his head in shame and gulping. "It hurts that you don't look at us as friends." He let the dejected act linger for a beat or two before flashing a grin. Daniel knew the friendship status would unravel in time. Particularly with such easy girls to get along with.

He got to his feet. "You might have a super fast metabolism but 5 minute rule before training begins." Daniel looked between the lovely girls, knocked on the table and headed out.

At least that was his initial destination before he pulled himself short at Evelyn's table, the girl miles away from the present. "Rough night?" She didn't look in her usual pristine condition and he totally got that witnessing last night's events would be tough to sleep on. When he first saw a demigod violent fight he...well he actually kinda liked it because he was somewhat sadistic and liked the drama and action of the place.

"Did you want a coffee?" Daniel looked around ready to fetch her some pick me up at her word.

"A few of us are going to train a bit if you want to join." He shrugged nonchalantly. "Up to you. No pressure but you should definitely do it." He flashed her a last smile and left. She didn't seem mighty approachable or like someone to bug after a tough encounter.

Daniel wandered to infirmary from there, shoving his hands in his pockets once again struck by a case of ADD. But when he saw Cherise, how could he help himself. He lit up like a child at Christmas just seeing her and if he timed it right...Daniel placed himself right in her path. He didn't entirely know why he went full school boy around her because "hey Cherise" was probably as likely to get her attention as aiming to bump into her. "Oh my gosh, such a coincidence!" He brought his hands out of his pockets to gesture to her, smile in place.

"So - so how's Andy doing?" She saw her later than Daniel did. But it's not even what he wanted to talk to her about. He threw himself in front of Cherise because...she was great in short. Great women that were easy to get along with and super magnetic, but were bad ass on the side with their marksmenship skills didn't stay single long. If she was even single. Daniel rubbed his neck uneasily. Sure, they kissed but some alcohol plus heat of the moment...didn't mean he could assume someone like her was free, or even interested with the giant elephant he had to explain.

He slid aside wearing a tight smile so she could have the whole pathway unobstructed again. "I'm trying to hold a mini training session if you want to be medic on stand by or have live target practice. You, me, two newbies. Could make it a team session."

Somewhere inside he was facepalming. He knew he couldn't skirt around it forever but he just wanted to have fun with her, live easy while time and camp events allowed.

By the time the son of Hephaestus’ vision slipped into a field of black, the warm waters of the beach rolling across his ankles with the ebb and flow of a morning tide, Liv was standing just inches away. Dark hair blew in the wind, the fingers of the sun illuminating hints of red and gold. Her eyes stared out into the woods that were just ahead, and she just stood there quietly. Thoughts flooded her mind. Emotions flooded her being.

That was the curse of being a child of Poseidon; emotions are always as ever changing as the very sea itself. One moment she reeled in the bitterness of events that have already transpired, and the next she is feeling… horrible with the outcome. When the cold logic of her actions washed over her, she knew she had let the monster, that was her unstable emotional self, take over. When the thrill of anger was gone, there was only that sharp pang of regret.

Duke hadn’t done anything to her. If anything, he was one of the more agreeable Demigods. Yet, as she turned around slowly to glance at his unmoving body, he was laying there in the sand because she had taken advantage of his genuine nature. She tilted her head and continued to stare down at him in silence; her thoughts flirting with several things.

She could walk away and make her point. This would mark her as a threatening Demigod, and this was what her father would have wanted. However, she’d possibly alienate herself from everyone. Her father was right - she is not privileged like a daughter or son of Zeus. No one would spare her for her actions. No one would be able to see her point of view. She’d just be another monstrous spawn of the Earth Shaker. Part of her didn’t mind this idea, but Liv still had a rational mind - even if her emotions sometimes overshadowed it greatly.

She could help him; drag him into the sea and heal him. Water was a natural element of healing, and Poseidon could do it. Liv could do it. But then what happens after? She’d just be another Demigod that talked the talk but never walks the walk. Another big mouth. She would have made threats that she could not go through with. She’d definitely let her father down.

Either way, she doubted that it would matter. Nothing would change. She could stay or leave, heal or not - the outcome is the same. It settles nothing. Neither choice would make her feel worse or better about herself or her father’s approval.

All children seek the approval of their parents. It’s a perfectly natural phenomenon that contributes to confusion, hostility, insecurity, and more in both humans and Demigods. Poseidon was hard to please, and though he loved all of his children dearly, it didn’t mean that he had to treat them with kindness. He was either scalding hot or extremely cold. There’s no in between.

She ran both of her hands through her now short hair; a gesture of conflicted emotions that caused her to be confused and painfully aware of herself in this particular situation. With a heavy sigh, she looked back down at Duke and made her decision. Though she’d likely regret it, she knew that this was the best course of action. There was no pride in making an innocent pay for someone else’s slights. She’d settle her scores with the appropriate individuals when the time is right.

She moved behind him, leaned over and grabbed his ankles. Limp bodies are pretty damn heavy, and Duke was no exception to this. Liv was not the strongest, either. She pulled and pulled, the tide lowering a bit and the waves slipped further from the shoreline. She had to drag him back a bit more, and once she got him into a place where he was at least partially covered by water, she fell back onto her butt and cursed his weight. His head ended up on her lap, face up, of course. Somehow.

She closed her eyes, tapped into the gentle side of the sea’s power, and stayed her more dour emotions and thoughts to pave the way for her more docile and friendly nature. That’s how this was supposed to work, right? She was supposed to suddenly feel sorry, which she did, and that she was being irrational - and magically, the water was supposed to do something glowy and heal him.

But nothing happened. Nothing happened for a few minutes, and it was just awkward.

Until Poseidon entered the scene himself, as haughty as ever. His towering figure rose from the ocean, arms crossed over his chest as he walked toward them. The water that shallowly surrounded Duke and Liv began to work its healing magic, and the Hephaestus son would soon be able to awaken with no pain and no snake bites. He spoke as Duke healed, “It seems you are my daughter after all. The rage. The jealousy. The bittersweet thought of vengeance. Alas, you can not yet follow through. You will learn to get past the guilt when you realize that no one will ever care for you the way you care for them. Only then can you wash away the traces of your guilt. If you want my crown, you will have to bear its weight.” It almost sounded like he was reminiscing about himself. He looked down on Duke with a tilted head, then back to Liv. He cared a great deal about his children, but his love was a little more on the tougher side. “Fortunately for you, I was in the area. I would advise you not to use the power of the sea so… recklessly, unless you are prepared to handle the consequences. Wasteful.”

With that said, he turned away and disappeared into the ocean before his daughter had the chance to respond. This just left Duke, Liv and one awkward situation. Yet, she couldn’t find it in herself to just leave the scene, and she most certainly did not want to drag him back out. So, she just sat there, her hands limply laid on his shoulders, as the ebb and flow of the sea all but calmed.

Alone. She couldn't decipher if that was a vulnerability or strength. A strength because it gave him little else to consider outside himself and less to lose. A vulnerability because it was one-person verse the world. That wasn't to say he couldn't twist people onto his side temporarily then dispose of them. Then there was Sloane's indecipherable placement.
Evelyn was also stuck trying her best to convince herself her visit was mainly for the pursuit of knowledge and everything was a learning experience. For instance, she learned he was great in bed. Very valuable information. At least now she could be perceived as lesser because a true daughter of Nemesis would remain poised and never go that far with somebody so threatening.

“Rough night?” Pulling her out of her thoughts was Kei - Daniel. Evelyn's eyes steadily rose to him.

Something like that.

“Did you want a coffee?”

“No,” she insisted quickly. Almost too quickly. “No, thank you.” She already had her burst of energy.

Daniel didn't seem to take offense and instead carried on. “A few of us are going to train a bit if you want to join. Up to you. No pressure but you should definitely do it.”

She nodded slowly, a smile tugging at her lips. “That sounds good. I already exercised and tested myself this morning.” However, that wasn't to say she should miss an opportunity learning about her peers' capabilities. “I've got a few things to sort out, among them my appearance apparently but, if you're still training, I'll meet up with you and throw my hat in the ring.” Training would also make for ample opportunity to pay him back for his limitless alcohol stunt. Likewise, now presented opportunity but there were too many eyes in the hall. Besides, she needed to weigh on what kind of curse and punishment she should lay on him. Nothing harsh as such but perhaps something lingering and uncomfortable. Bothersome. Something that would affect his mind and behaviour.

Before he made his exit, Evelyn thought to caution the carefree spirit. “Daniel. You be careful with those two, don't underestimate them.” Evelyn gestured to the table from where he came. With that said, she smiled sweetly.

They weren't bad company or corrupt but one shouldn't lunge so blindly into company, spars and training. It may just leave him open to a rude awakening varying from an intense crush or a mean competitiveness.

She travelled to the bin, dumping her now cold untouched piece of toast then set way to her own cabin to adequately freshen up. Then maybe stay there, let events unfold and relax extensively, safe and cozy in her own sanctuary. The idea seemed increasingly appealing as she neared her cabin.

Her initial destination was the med hut but Trinity was surprised to find the one she sought kneeling on the ground with Mason on her lap. She didn't know what to think or the foggiest clue as to what happened and how they ended up where they were. She ran over immediately and dropped by Andy, an arm automatically wrapping around her softly. “Hey, you okay? Are you hurt?” Trinity cocked her head to better see her friend.

It took a moment for Trinity to figure Andy was hurting but more in the mental sense. It always tolled on her more greatly than any physical pain. Meanwhile Mason was probably ruling in the latter department with his nose being such a mess. “What happened to you two?” Trinity knew they butted heads but Andy wasn't capable of such violence towards a friend. Not to mention she looked far too upset to be the culprit.

A quick glance around told her the likely story as she spotted Ajax's retreating figure. She growled sending daggers into his back. The bloody idiot. A large part of her wanted to chase him down and demand to know where his sense was. She was all but twitching to confront him actually but when two of her mates were in hell-ish shape, she couldn't leave them. Trinity pressed the side of her head to Andy's, letting her know she was 100% there for her. Or at least wouldn't cause more conflict for her.

She looked down at Mason next who Andy now naturally took upon herself to nurse. “You had one job.” In that unspoken job description was of course not to let Andy get hurt further or worry her. But the daughter of Ares wasn’t super mad about it and even if she was, the mother hen act could be spared.

She sighed out looking around again. It was probably better to tuck the two away than arouse the curiosities of other campers. Logic screamed to take the two back to the med hut where they belonged, but she knew how sapping that place could be and didn't have the heart. “Okay, come on,” she said beginning to stand. A hand gently nudged Andy upward, not forcefully, only a prompting touch, where Trinity quickly saw a demonstration of the damned condition her friend was in.

Trinity ducked under one of Andy's arms for extra support then gave Mason a hand until he was steady enough and got some of his bearings back. It was a bit of an awkward juggle to get them both on their feet plus the bag, but she got there. “Where did youse wanna go?”

When the destination was given, she carefully travelled with the two letting them dictate a manageable pace. She didn't offer any other words, happy to journey there in silence or just listen. Trinity only let the two go when they arrived and there was furniture nearby to rest on or maneovure themselves around if they really wanted. But Trinity let them know the wisest decision. “Sit. Water?” She headed to the kitchen without waiting for a reply and got them a cool glass each.

Well she certainly wasn't going to scrape for conversation or further explanations but there was a weight in the room. Something that needed to be talked about. Trinity couldn't hold her position long staring at Mason's crooked nose. She swiftly approached and it gave her a brief little thrill knowing this would hurt for a second. She placed her fingers on his nose and with a satisfying crack sound, realigned that bad boy.

She pulled up a chair, sitting on it backward rubbing her fingers together, eyes glancing between the two officially waiting for this elephant to be talked about. They probably knew and even she knew, she wasn't the best mediator. Wasn't known for patience and kindness and understanding but sometimes it helped just to talk about things. She talked to Wes about some things and felt better. Then again, that could have been one of those passive Aphrodite abilities. But she was what they had for now.

Liam fell into a light nap. His wide back rested against the tree trunk, legs straight out but bent slightly, and arms crossed over the fall and heave of his chest where his chin was slightly touching. To an acute mind, or even an empathic Demigod, it was riddled with emotions in direct contradiction with one another. It needn’t be said what those emotions were, as they were all those conflicting feelings that came with the territory of being a dominant Ares child trying to sort out what to do with the submissive Sloane. It almost felt like pitting fire against a piece of paper - he knew that he would find some stupid way to burn her by what he said, did, probably even thought or imagined. Nothing about him could ever be harmless to anyone. It was completely his fault because he, alone, made his choices and his life. Blaming them on Ares was easy, but the truth was that everyone had the freedom to overcome that. It’s easier to say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree than make the hard decisions.

He stirred only at the sound of footsteps coming his way, and popped open a single eye to catch the glimpse of Wes coming to view in his peripheral. As the Aphrodite child sat, Liam’s eye closed again. Awake, but not looking at him. Maybe it was shame. Defeat. It was certainly something along those lines. The man wasn’t always the most empathic of the lot, but any guy could tell when he fucked up when it comes to women. There was just something innate about it. Maybe it was a sixth sense - the impending feeling of doom that comes with knowing that she would hold it in her mind forever.

“"You know... She is grateful for what you did,"” Wes informed him, and Liam wasn’t sure that he’s supposed to feel good about that. At first, he thought that was true. It probably was - is - but he let it all go to his head. He’s still a man, and deep down inside, he’s ingrained with a sense of protection over what was weaker in this world. Even animals do that. To him, love him or hate him, that’s how he felt about Sloane. She was weak, but he had only ever thought about physical strength. He had never considered her mental strength, and that’s where he messed up. He really didn’t understand that concept fully anyway - mental strength. Only physical strength has ever mattered to him. While Liam wouldn’t respond to Wes’ comment, the more empathic man would likely note the emotions that came with acknowledging, yet also being aware that he really, really couldn’t understand the concept of ‘grateful’. It was his duty. As a man. That might sound sexist and crazy, but that was Liam’s truth. No one had to tell him to do it, and no one had not thank him for it. He just did it because he is programmed that way.

After a few moments of silences, and Wes likely trying to sift through the emotions being thrown at him, Wes went on to explain, "I think she's scared. Before it was just her. I'd imagine you get numb to that kind of life after a while. But now... She has someone she cares about. That raises the stakes. Now it's bigger than her and she can't control it anymore. I think for the first time she feels helpless, and is terrified that something will happen to you. Since she's been at camp you are the only person I've seen her confide in and trust. And maybe it's hard for you to see. But I felt it, under all that anger she had. Maybe for a moment, you should imagine it's possible she worries about you just as much as you worry about her."

Sloane scared for him? Now, he knows that this wasn’t a laughing matter, but the notion that he had anything to fear from Sylas was funny. In this brief second, Wes might feel the light weight of laughter in the air, even if Liam was only slightly smirking at that particular comment. Everything that slipped past Wes’ lips defied understanding because, in Liam’s world, there was him and there were the weaklings. Of course, now there is also Trinity, but that’s another conversation for another time. For now, there is still him, and he is physically imposing, unconquerable, and no one has ever scared him. In fact, Liam can be so frightening that he scares himself, and that is the only reason he stays away from others. Maybe this is arrogance and a bit of a knee-slapper for others to fathom, but Liam genuinely believed this. It wasn’t absurd to him. He wasn’t just a talker. He knows himself inside and out.

But that was just it, wasn’t it? He only knows himself. To comprehend another person’s actions or thoughts was something he could not do. His view is akin to a horse with blinders, or like a young child that has yet to develop Theory of Mind. He believes people see what he sees or think how he thinks, and that’s that.

The silence persisted for a long, long time, and Wes might have almost given up on having any sort of conversation with the son of Ares. But Liam soon confessed the root of all of his problems in life, “I just don’t understand what it’s like to not be like me. I don’t get people that let things happen to them. Those things never mattered to me because I just let the world eat the weak as it’s supposed to do.” He opened his eyes to look at Wes, “Then there’s Sloane, and she’s different to me. I don’t know… why she’s different. I do, but I don’t - you know what I mean.” Then he held out his hands, both palms facing him and close together as if just staring at them as though they only brought discord, “But I don’t know what to do for her without making her feel indebted to me, angry, or whatever. I certainly don’t need her to be scared for me. I’m a big boy, I can handle myself.” His arms crossed back over his chest. No, he’s not even going to acknowledge that Sloane shoved him multiple times. Okay? That just hurts his pride.

“I guess you could say we’re one in the same. Our tiny worlds just opened up to something bigger. Who’d’a known?” He kind of laughed at the realization. It would probably be the first and last smart thing he’d say today.

Ethan and Heath watched others in the Hall. Evelyn was by herself and didn't look like she wanted company. Nelly and some new girl were talking with Daniel. The two of them ate in companionable silence and soon were done. It was at this time that Daniel talked with Evelyn before leaving the hall entirely. It wasn't long after that that Evelyn left.

"I wonder where everyone else is?"

"Who knows, probably doing their own thing. I don't want to know where Lia is though."

"Why don't you go look for her then? You have that locator stone."

"What about you?"

"Me? I am going to stay here and meet the new person. I'll catch up with you at some point okay?"

Heath nodded and taking his dirty dishes, left his friend to his own exploits before taking the dishes to the back and then left. Ethan soon cleaned up his area before coming over to Nelly and the new girl.

"Morning Nelly! Who's the new girl?"

Nelly was a bit surprised by Ethan but quickly bounced back, "Oh hey Ethan! This is . . . . . Kohana, right?"

That last part had been directed at Kohana. Nelly was glad to see Ethan. Of course she saw him and Heath come in but was too busy with Kohana and Daniel. It was then she remembered Daniel said training would start in 5 minutes.

"OMG! I totally forgot that Daniel wanted to train soon! I better take my camera back to my cabin so it doesn't get damaged! I'll be back soon okay? Let Daniel know that when he shows up."

With that, Nelly took off jogging, leaving her dirty dishes behind. Ethan looked perplexed. Training? Looking at the other girl, Ethan decided to introduce himself.

"Hi, I am Ethan. I am Hestia's son. There's going to be training soon? I take it you just got in? My companions and myself just got in a few days ago," Ethan said as he casually sat down in front of the demigoddess.

And what a crazy few days it's been.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Iliana was trying her best to find her brother and Ethan. She did end up checking their cabin first just to be sure. They hadn't been there. The next place to check out was the Hall. As she left their cabin, her thoughts once again drifted back to what just happened. Ares had said the Valises were going to Olympus for a bit. Why was the question. Maybe it had something to do what happened last night? Iliana wished she been able to do something about that situation, but it was all said and done. Iliana then thought about the incident she had just witness between Ajax, Mason, and Andy. She really ought to check on Mason and Andy at some point. But for now she would try to find Heath and Ethan and let them know what she saw this morning for they were bound to ask what she'd been up to.
Iliana's thoughts were dashed though when she came closer to the beach and saw a figure coming out of the water.
Now what was happening? Coming closer, she saw it was none other then Poseidon. She stopped where she stood, so she couldn't hear was was being said.
~I seem to be getting into the habit of stumbling upon situations. How am I suppose to avoid things that are none of my concern if stuff like this keeps happening?~ she thought to herself.
Iliana herself had only a few interactions with sea god. He was definitely the mysterious type. Soon the god left and Iliana soon saw he had been interacting with Liv. Iliana remembered her from the trial. Taking a better look, she saw someone else was there. Curiosity getting the better of her, Iliana walked up to see Duke on the ground with his head on Liv's lap. Concerned, Iliana sat on the sand next to the pair. Looking at Liv, she quickly wrote something down and showed it to Liv.
~Is everything okay? Hi, I am Iliana and I can't speak so this is how I communicate. You're Liv, Poseidon's daughter right? I remember you speaking up during Alex's trial. Did Duke get hurt?~
ImageAt most there was some stomping. No time for taunts or fights before Ajax was in front of him and Mason was completely blind sided by a sudden iron fist crunching into his nose. The impact sent him reeling back all the way off his feet. A weight fell on top of him but Mason could only see dots and pain. What the fuck? Things turned fully black for a moment, some noises going on around him then he could feel himself being shifted. He let out a groan. Through the heavy stun, he half inspected his bleeding nose covering it with a hand but Andy brushed it aside easily with some material there to ease the bleeding. At least he assumed it was Andy, his vision was still crap and he could feel the blood clotting to the back of his throat.
He coughed a little and went to roll to his side when a tender hand cupped his face. He forced himself to stop stirring and open his eyes to see proper shapes and figures. Mason didn't fully catch what she said and her face was a little blurry but no doubt something about somehow she was the bad guy in this. He put a hand over the one cupping his face. "It's okay," he assured. It hurt a lot but it wasn't that big of a deal. Mason couldn't argue he never expected Ajax to snap and punch his lights out...it was long overdue. But he did wish Ajax timed it a bit better like when Andy wasn't using him for support.
He tried to lift his head to sit up but ended up right back on Andy's lap. He whinced for the both of them. "Shit, sorry. Are you alright?"
Somebody else rushed onto scene. Trinity appeared level with Andy asking the same question he had. He closed his eyes praying for strength. He knew this wasn't a good look and there were a thousand things Trinity would have done to avoid getting punched in the face. Not to mention her pain tolerance was high so to her it probably looked like he was taking vacation on Andy's lap.
“What happened to you two?”
Mason let the more aware and sensible take that one. Besides he didn't know if it was supposed to be a secret or not that Ajax was a complete dickhead so he was half interested to hear how or even if Andy would relay that information. He let the two converse meanwhile he was trying to tell himself to get up.
When the girls next came into full focus Trinity's eyes were on him. “You had one job.”
He grimaced in pain but also because it was true. At the same time, Mason slowly pushed himself to sit up. He wasn't exactly proud to take Andy down with him and cause a fuss. He half turned to the daughter of Hecate and gently took the cloth from her to keep pressure on his own nose. The moment his back faced them again, the son of Hades glared off in the distance like a child being scolded. He was doing well until the final moments but it wasn't worth arguing.
“Okay, come on.” Trinity announced. There was some shifting happening behind him and then Trinity reached for him, Andy already in one of her arms.
Mason tried to push his own weight up forgetting the blonde possessed enhanced strength. He staggered a little coming up faster than he expected and held onto Trin for a second. "I’m okay," he told them when the world stopped spinning. He looked over at Andy and reached around the blonde to rub Andy’s back reassuringly. His nose would stop bleeding and condition could be fixed, and so could hers with time.
“Where did youse wanna go?” Trinity asked next.
He hadn’t fully thought about it beyond getting Andy out of the med hut. "Her cabin." The home environment was supposed to be more comfortable. That and he didn’t often have the nicest visitors. He could imagine Eve making an untimely entrance and taunting everyone present. Or a Zeus child storming in looking to finish the fight.
For his part he kept quiet. It was easier to anyway since he had to breathe through his mouth. When they got there Trinity loosened her hold and watch, ordering they sit then fetched some water. Mason obediently sat. Truthfully it was more of a grateful collapse. He eased the cloth away happy the bleeding had stopped or certainly slowed down. Mason checked on Andy from the corner of his eye but before he could say anything the blonde reentered handing them a glass. "Thanks," he muttered, taking a sip and placed the glass down. By the time he caught Trinity's look, there was no time for protest, her mind promptly made. "N- Jesus!" Mason stomped a foot and couldn't help to cover then inspect his nose. The pain was sharp but fleeting. If only Andy's fried flesh and aching muscles could get the same treatment...Of course she got treated by the daughter of Apollo which was a great help - and compassionate.
Then they sat there and they sat there...Mason busied himself tending to his face. But somebody had to burst the bubble, even he knew that. "You know you've heard it a thousand times but the Valises are assholes. Did everyone but him see Alex send a thousand volts through you." Everyone knew he didn’t think fondly of them, and Andy probably didn’t like to hear them…or at least him bad mouthed. Mason held up his hand to stop any arguments coming his way. "I’m just saying it’s a bad move. Sure, he's thought about you and cared about you, second. I've always thought you've settled for less than you deserve." Mason didn't know of all their moments shared but when he did see them, when drama unraveled, Alex came first.
He looked Andy over and sighed. He didn't mean to rub salt on the wound, he just wanted to get real. Ajax hadn't protected her once. Arguably, he hurt her twice. When she exchanged herself in the Underworld for him and now when he stood idly by as his sister attacked her. But maybe he should have been faster acting too. Mason slowly wrapped an arm around Andy and kissed her cheek softly. "I'm sorry this has all happened to you," he whispered in her ear. From the relationship dramas to Daniel's passing to her current condition. Truly, all of it.
Rae had been staring at her hands for quite some time; the meek aerial creature cradled in her palms - still suffering, wounded wing twitching. For the child of Artemis, this was the way of life. There didn’t seem to be a reason for the redhead to play God, even if she is - technically, a Demigod with the ability to play the game of life and death with Earth’s “lesser” creatures. While she had managed to help a few people here and there, they were people - intelligent creatures with purpose and usefulness. Animals such as this tiny bird? Pathetic enough to not fly away in time to notice that an arrow was coming for it.
Yet, Rae was innately prone to caring for these little beasts. They were far less talkative than humans, for one. That was always a plus in Rae’s book. Secondly, they were extremely useful to her and her gift. Her emotions were a mixture of care and rationale. She could heal the bird, maybe, but she could also let nature take its course as intended. That’s the way of life. Of all life, even humans. Then again, just as one could fault the bird for a lack of knowing, Rae could also be blamed for a terribly misguided arrow. Deep down, this internal battle was truly the outcome of weakness. She couldn’t heal the bird. She’s never healed a living thing in her lifetime, and she had never intended to in her future.
The goddess watched her daughter with arms folded across her chest. It must be a complicated way of living - to be so cold when one is actually quite warm on the inside. Her shell was tough and hard to penetrate, but there is a part of her that wishes she could be like everyone else. Maybe even a little more like Cherise. Tolerable. She hadn’t expected that her daughter would take on the personality that she did, but her less than nurturing childhood had ruined a lot of what Rae could have been.
Artemis calmly stepped forward and took the bird from the cradle of Rae’s palms and smiled lightly, “I understand, Rae. Perhaps you need more time,” she concluded as gently as possible. There was no use in scolding a girl that couldn’t care less. “Besides, you have a guest.” With that said, there were a few seconds of light before the fluttering of wings beating against a gentle breeze could be heard alongside some cheerful tweeting. “Be kind, Rae.”
As Artemis melted away just as Sloane approached, and a pair of hazel eyes swung to greet the woman’s apologetic entrance, "I'm sorry. I was just wondering about and accidentally stumbled upon you both. I did not mean to interrupt." By this time, the goddess had left the scene to leave behind the two girls.
“Why are you sorry?” The fiery-haired woman’s head cocked to the left, her eyes fixated on Sloane with owlish curiosity. “Being sorry for interrupting because you were in the area makes so sense. I really wish people would quit apologizing for uncontrollable actions...” She sighed and turned away from the brunette to pluck a couple of fallen arrows from the ground and place them into her quiver.
Naturally, Rae had no idea that Sloane had just been crying. Nor did she notice any hint of emotion on her face that would indicate that her day had been completely shitty. Then again, why bother? Why bother with people’s emotions anyway? It wasn’t like Rae could make a day ruined by emotional turmoil any worse. Right? “It was just my mother. You know - mother-daughter talks and such. I say that she’s a bit too late for that, if you ask me!” There was a bit of laughter that slipped from her lips as she made an extremely dry joke that most people wouldn’t get. Only because she’s bad at joking, and most of her jests are just really cold truths trying to wear a funny disguise.
She tossed Sloane a quick glance over a shoulder and smirked, “Name’s Rae, by the way. Artemis’ biggest mistake. She’s far too kind to admit it, but I am hugely too flawed for one to even assume that I am her spawn. Who would you be?”
She turned to face Sloane, cocked her weight to the right leg, and then placed a hand on her right hip. “Wait - wait. Let me guess, hmm? I’m kind of good at this.” A lie. Even though Rae could not read the emotions clearly painted across Sloane’s face, something on the inside felt like she could use a good cheering up. Maybe it was just the fact that the woman seemed rather… soft, and Rae was the obvious opposite in personality.
“I can see that you’re an Ares child,” she made her “guess” as she wagged a finger at the brunette.
Whether or not the other woman would laugh was none of Rae’s concern. “I’m going to go eat. Did you eat yet? It looks like you could stand to eat a little more...” she noted in typical blunt Rae fashion while making a “skinny” motion with two hands at a narrow distance from each other. Whether or not she was joking is best left up to the individual, but it could be either.
She turned away once more, but this time to head toward the mess hall. Rae had a really casual stroll; slow and unbothered. This day had already been dragging on far too long with too little to do.
Cherise was left to her own company, and she didn’t really mind that. This meant that she could think about how she might approach Keith. No, Daniel. Keith? She blinked and tilted her head from side to side, the quiet conversation in her head running through her at a million miles and hour. Why’d she kiss him last night? Was she stupid? Maybe. Maybe she’s stupid. Cherise really detested liars, but she wasn’t entirely immune to liking them as well.
A lie was the only explanation that she could naturally come up with. It annoyed her, but she didn’t want to be annoyed with him. Oh, but she should be! She sighed at her self-directed conversation and kicked a rock a few times down the trail in front of her. She’d give him a piece of her mind! Yes. That’s what Rae would tell her to do. Yes. Don’t give a liar an inch!
“Oh my gosh, such a coincidence!" A familiar voice came to her, and when she looked up she saw Daniel, as cheerful as ever. She didn’t say anything and allowed him to continue spouting off at the mouth. It wasn’t because she was mad at him, it was simply due to the fact that she was greatly confused by him. “So - so how's Andy doing?" She was still silent. If Daniel’s sister wasn’t in great shape, he’d have known by now. Most people probably would. It was safe to assume that she was probably okay, and Cherise probably would have said otherwise if it were not true. That, and well - her inability to heal Andy to the fullest made her feel a touch guilty. She should feel horrible because people expect her to do these things, but she was still such a novice.
"I'm trying to hold a mini training session if you want to be medic on stand by or have live target practice. You, me, two newbies. Could make it a team session." Silence. Heavy, awkward, unsettling silence.
Daniel rubbed his neck, and the silence of Cherise likely did not help to settle his nerves. A sigh fell from her lips, and her head titled just slightly, “Don’t you think you owe me something? Are you just going to stand there and pretend that you didn’t lie to me about everything?”
Yes, it was obvious that Cherise was a little upset by this whole situation. She gripped the bow in her hand, but deadly weapon aside - her angry tone was quite weak. It almost sounded like she had to force herself to scold him.
“I know that we just met, but you didn’t need to make up a whole new name and persona. I am not stupid, you know. I mean -” she started to make confused gestures, her weapon flailing about with her hand as she tried to get everything in her thoughts out. Yes. This was a GREAT scolding, and he deserved it. “I feel pretty stupid!” She huffed that out like a toddler throwing a cute little tantrum. It was really hard to yell at someone when you were just too nice for this world.
She’s too nice for this world. Even her scolding is too nice.
Daniel Vadas
Hecate | HEX: #8b9068 | Outfit
Image Daniel's face fell and so did his gut. Of course he couldn't avoid it forever and Cherise had a totally valid reaction minus the waving around of the bow, that his eyes flickered to nervously.
"Okay!" he said suddenly when the most adorable tantrum came to a rest. He wanted to hug her but given the circumstances, he figured it was well and truly best to lay off. At least until he explained himself first and she didn't shun him.
Daniel gestured off trail, and began to head that way hoping Cherise had enough trust or respect in him to follow. For once in his life he didn't actually want to cause a scene. Once they got to a nice clearing , for some reason he imagined them sitting down and talking about it easily. The reality was he was far too restless to take a seat on the inviting sunlit grass or even stand still in one spot.
"I owe you an explanation or two, that's true. But I didn't lie to you. It's..." he sighed out. Where did he even begin? "My name is Daniel. That's who I am and who I've been for most my life. But last year, there was a war. The camp got invaded and we didn't all make it to the other side. We won," he threw his hands up in gesture to the whole place that was obviously still standing and teeming with life. "But...we didn't all survive."
He gnawed on his lip able to transport himself right back to the war zone their haven had become. The stress, anxiety and determination...how chaotic and helpless they really were in the end. Daniel could recall every damn minute of it and every sensation until his last breath was drawn. His eyes moved back to the sweet and patient brunette. She didn't need to fret, story time wasn't over but it was better to show and tell. He peeled off his jumper then unbuttoned his shirt shaking it down to his elbows. Daniel's torso was painted with a series of scars, mostly faded and foolishly caused by conjurations gone haywire, but there was a predominant one. Darker, bigger and badder than the rest. "I tried to take one of the giants down and while I was focusing on him, I was attacked from behind." He shifted to reveal a near identical scar on his back.
There was little room to doubt the blade went all the way through him. He could almost feel it again like a phantom pain when the war was brought up. Daniel rubbed his sternum as if assuring himself he was in one piece then flickered up a weak smile to Cherise. "I died, Cherise. I was dead. But mom being mom couldn’t leave well enough alone. She revived me but..." he pressed his tongue to his cheek caging in some raw emotion. "Not as myself. I don't know if it was by accident or she wanted to remodel me or what. All I had was false memories and a false identity. For months. 'Keith'."
He flicked up his shirt and took a couple paces. As he was talking about it, it's like he was unravelling the mystery and trying to comprehend it with her. "I guess being in the camp environment again, forced to face peers and reality ruined the whole blockade. I only came back around as myself yesterday."
Did that all sound crazy? He spun on his heels and covered those few steps back with a lot more hesitance. Daniel risked a guilty glance to her face. If she was open enough to believe him then he also owed her an explanation as to why it was only coming out now. "I like you and I don't know what version of me you like. I've been afraid to tell you because I didn't want you thinking I've been using you or lying to you." Which is obviously too late the cynic in him chimed. "I didn't want to risk what we had."
What would follow would make or break the man. A smack for some long winded exotic tale? A hug? Or one of her warm trusting smiles that just enveloped him in comfort? Maybe she'd walk off without a word... Daniel braced himself from best to worse. Not to say the daughter of Apollo couldn't surprise him.
Wes sat there in the silence, patiently waiting for Liam's response. Part of him hoped that his attempt at sharing wisdom would make it's way past the son of Ares's thick skull. But when he felt lightness in the air and even saw a smirk on the man's face, it took a bit of self control not to get up and walk away. Instead, he simply sighed and shook his head. Wes couldn't care less at that point if his frustration rendered or not. But he decided to be patient and see what Liam had to say on the matter.
"I just don’t understand what it’s like to not be like me. I don’t get people that let things happen to them. Those things never mattered to me because I just let the world eat the weak as it’s supposed to do. Then there’s Sloane, and she’s different to me. I don’t know… why she’s different. I do, but I don’t - you know what I mean." Wes contemplated interjecting his own opinion, but decided to remain silent and let Liam finish his thought before giving his own rebuttal.
He watched as Liam held out his hands, staring at them like weapons rather than appendages of his own body. "But I don’t know what to do for her without making her feel indebted to me, angry, or whatever. I certainly don’t need her to be scared for me. I’m a big boy, I can handle myself." He then leaned back crossing his arms over his chest, coming to the end of his own argument. "I guess you could say we’re one in the same. Our tiny worlds just opened up to something bigger. Who’d’a known?"
Liam's last comment took him by surprise, it was almost wise. His own chuckle brought a slight smirk to Wes's face for a brief moment. But he couldn't leave the conversation at just that. "So, what you're saying is... Because Sloane is weak, by your definition, the world should of had its way with her and that've been the end of it?" He asked. Of course, that's not what Liam meant, technically, but with his argument that's the way it sounded. "Has it ever occurred to you that strength is more than how much you can bench press? He let that sink in for a moment before continuing. No joking, just a plain expression on his face.
"You and I," Wes continued, motioning between the two of them. "Are strong... Physically. No one would deny that. And Sloane is stronger than the pair of us." He held Liam's gaze to show he was serious. "Someone hurts our pride, and we stomp off like a scolded child. And those are just words... Or maybe a shove in front of our friends." Liam didn't needed to say what Sloane did hurt his pride, he could feel it. And most of all, Wes was a guy too. Regardless of how comfortable they were with themselves, when a female shows them up in front of others, they're embarrassed.
"She has been dealing with her brothers verbal and physical abuse for... years, I'd assume. And she's not crazy, or suicidal, or begging for help. She took it and accepted it, because to her, that protected other people. So, while it's not physical strength, it's mental and emotional. And you and I both have the emotional fortitude of tissue paper."
Wes still wasn't sure if Liam would be able to wrap his head around that, but there wasn't many other ways he could have explained it. He sat there in silence for a moment as he went over what Liam had said once more, making sure to address everything... Or try to at least. When he came to his next point, he sighed and clapped his hands together softly. "Women will always get mad at us... for something. We always mess up somehow, someway... More often then not because we aren't mind readers and need shit spelled out for us. And you, my guy," Wes's lips pulled into a tight, apologetic smile. "Don't have as much game as you think you do, and definitely don't understand what women are thinking. If you plan to stay in Sloane's life, you'll have to accept that you'll piss her off a lot more."
Hopefully that didn't get him a swift punch in the face. Wes wasn't try to insult Liam or poke fun, but simply be honest with him. The son of Ares acted like he was the Gods gift to women, as most cocky men do... as Wes did at a certain point in his life. But Liam had the subtly of a freight train. He didn't know how to be gentle with a woman and damn well didn't know how to be romantic. And perhaps that wasn't his goal, maybe he was just trying to helpful, but regardless, his handling was rough and he needed to know.
"I don't know if you ever been in love..." Wes held up his hands to stop Liam before he started. "I'm not saying this is love. But love, or caring for someone, is irrational. I could be best friends with Zeus and still worry about his well being. Sloane knows you can handle yourself, and yet... She will still worry about you. That doesn't mean she thinks you're weak... It means she cares."
"Look," Wes sighed, as his hand raised to rub his head. "I'm not trying to tell you what to do. I'm just trying to help you understand maybe a fraction of what she is feeling." With that he shrugged his shoulders and leaned back against the tree. He had no clue if any of that got to Liam, but it was the best he could do.
"Why are you sorry?" The red head asked with a cocked head, while the woman that accompanied her vanished. "Being sorry for interrupting because you were in the area makes so sense. I really wish people would quit apologizing for uncontrollable actions..."
"Habit," was all Sloane managed to respond with. For most people that was the polite thing to do. If they stumbled upon what seemed like a private moment they apologized, even if it wasn't an accident. But Sloane's finishing school antics didn't look to be in similar company with the red head. She came off blunt, and honest to the point of being offensive and unbothered. Not that it overly bothered her, Sloane had more on her mind than worry about the way one girl she never met treated her.
The red head began to collect arrows, which Sloane took to be the end of their very short conversation. She started to take a step back in the direction from where she came when the girl spoke up again. "It was just my mother. You know - mother-daughter talks and such. I say that she’s a bit too late for that, if you ask me!" Then she laughed, although it didn't sound like it was due to some great joke, but the irony of it. Sarcasm or humor as a defense mechanism was common.
"Name’s Rae, by the way. Artemis’ biggest mistake. She’s far too kind to admit it, but I am hugely too flawed for one to even assume that I am her spawn. Who would you be?"
Sloane took a moment before parting her lips to respond, but Rae interjected before a sound was able to escape. "Wait - wait. Let me guess, hmm? I’m kind of good at this."
She let her mouth close as she cupped her hands together in front of her. Sloane decided to humor Rae, she'd be curious to see what conclusion the girl came to. Based on her own knowledge of... well, herself, Athena would be her assumption, or perhaps Hestia. Yet neither of those crossed Rae's lips. "I can see that you’re an Ares child."
Sloane was so surprised by that comment, she actually snorted. She quickly brought her hand up to cover her mouth as she chuckled for a good moment. "No. I can't fight to save my life." She let out one final laugh before deciding to introduce herself similarly to Rae. "I'm Sloane. Reluctant protégée of Eris."
"I’m going to go eat. Did you eat yet? It looks like you could stand to eat a little more..."
Sloane looked down at her waist as Rae made a gesture at how skinny she was. She contemplated the offer for a moment, even looking in the general direction of the cafeteria, or where she assumed it was anyway. Sure, she could mope around all day in the woods, which would do nothing but make her more angry or feel more guilty. Plus, the mention of food made her stomach growl. It had to be about lunch time at that point and she could definitely go for some food. "I had breakfast a couple hours ago. But I could go for lunch."
Once Rae turned and headed toward the mess hall, Sloane hesitated a moment before trailing after her. Neither one of them seemed to be in a particular hurry and she was fine with that. It gave her more time to clear her head and digest everything that transpired. She also tried her best to wipe whatever tear residue remained away from her cheeks and appear like she hadn't just been crying.
Unfortunately for Sloane, luck did not seem to be on her side that day. As they traversed the woods and grew closer to the center of camp, a feint male voice could be heard ahead. She thought about turning around or diverting, but she wasn't leading, and soon enough Rae ended up leading them right towards it. Sure enough, sitting before them was Wes... and Liam. Sloane stopped dead in her tracks as she looked between them. It gave her one of those sinking feelings like when you walk into a room where everyone was just talking about you.
She had been standing there too long not to say something, or it would get awkward... It was already awkward. Sloane blinked and swallowed before managing to find her voice. "Wes. Liam." That was enough and she had zero desire to stick around and chat. Without caring about personal space, Sloane took a hold of Rae's arm and tugged her along as she lead them away from the pair. This time her steps were quicker, determined to lead them away before either one of the guys could manage to sit up and follow after them... hopefully.
Once they reached the center of camp, with the mess hall in sight, she released Rae's arm with a sigh. "Long story." That wasn't much of an explanation... at all, but it was something. Sloane resumed walking toward the cafeteria at a more leisurely speed, only to stop after a couple steps and turn back toward Rae. "Uh, sorry... For just dragging you along." She then gave the best half smile she could manage before continuing on towards the hall.
Mason's hand moved to rest atop her own that cupped his cheek. "It's okay," he tried to assure her, but it didn't do much. After a moment or two, he tried to sit himself up and Andy aided what she could. But his effort didn't last long before he fell back into her lap. "Shit, sorry. Are you alright?"
"It's ok. I'm fine," she tried to reassure him in return. As Andy knelt there, she tried to figure out how the hell she would get them both out of there before a bunch of unwanted campers stumbled upon the scene. She couldn't very well help him up while keeping herself stable. Maybe a little bit of her powers... just a smidge. Something so small Mason wouldn't notice and it wouldn't take too much out of her.
Before she had the chance to do anything, another person dropped down beside her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. Andy looked over noticing it was Trinity as she spoke, "Hey, you okay? Are you hurt?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." Andy nodded her head, while wiping her eyes with the back of her hand, trying her best not to get Mason's blood everywhere.
"What happened to you two?" It wasn't until Andy heard a growl come from Trinity, that she noticed what she was looking at... The culprit. For the time being she was focused on Mason rather than answering the question. It could wait a minute. And while she knelt there watching Mason in pain and bleeding, Trinity pressed her head gently against hers, a silent way to show her support, something that Andy greatly appreciate.
"You had one job," Trinity scolded Mason.
"It's not his fault," Andy said as he grimaced before sitting upright, keeping his back to them. "Mason has been with me all night. Even got me out of the infirmary. Ajax just showed up and punched him."
Trinity sighed. "Okay, come on." First she helped Andy to her feet, slowly and gently. One of the blonde's arms slid under hers for support before she helped Mason to his feet and picked up the bag. Andy had no idea how she managed it all but she didn't question it. After Mason gained his bearings, she felt his hand gently stroke her back reassuringly. "Where did youse wanna go?"
"Her cabin."
It didn't take too terribly long for them to reach her cabin. Trinity refused to release her hold on either one of them until they were near the foot of Andy's bed. She ordered for them to sit and while Mason listened, Andy slowly walked over to the bathroom. She turned on the faucet and began to wash his blood from her hands. All the while, trying her very best not to look up at the mirror. She was almost certain she probably looked she was hit by a car... She didn't need it confirmed.
Once finished, she grabbed one wet cloth and another dry one before rejoining them. Just as Andy stepped back out into the room there was a nasty crunch as Trinity snapped Mason's nose back in place. "N- Jesus!" She winced slightly, the sound enough to churn her stomach.
Andy made her way over to the foot of the bed, taking a seat beside Mason. "Here," she said softly as her right hand softly took ahold of his jaw and turned his face toward her. With the wet wash cloth Andy began slowly and gently wiping away the dried blood from his face. Her heart sank a little at the sight of his nose already bruising, the purple and blue spreading a little under his eyes. She hesitated for a moment before continuing and ran the rag along his lips. Her gaze briefly shifted between his own and his mouth. Andy shouldn't have been thinking about the night before, there were far more important things that could plague her mind. Yet as she brushed away the blood from his bottom lip all she could think about was the closet.
She inhaled softly and diverted her gaze before she had a chance to blush or make her self look even more ridiculous. While looking away Andy made sure to clean his hands before offering him the clean dry towel. "In case it starts to bleed again." She gave a weak smile and moved to her feet, taking the dirtied rag into the bathroom.
Andy tossed the bloodied cloth into a dirty clothes basket with a sigh. And as she stood there for a moment, she allowed herself one begrudged look at the mirror. It wasn't as bad as she expected... She had Cherise to thank for that. Mostly she look exhausted and feeble. But no scorch marks or wounds. Just weak, like a battery drained of it's life.
She sighed and stepped back into the room where there was still a heavy looming silence. But it seemed the moment she locked eyes on Mason, he took it upon himself to break that silence. "You know you've heard it a thousand times but the Valises are assholes. Did everyone but him see Alex send a thousand volts through you." Andy began to take a step forward and part her lips, but he held up his hand to stop her and continued. "I’m just saying it’s a bad move. Sure, he's thought about you and cared about you, second. I've always thought you've settled for less than you deserve."
Andy's fingers fidgeted as she waited for her chance to speak. "No, you're right," she agreed as she crossed the room and resumed her seat on the bed beside him.
Mason sighed as he looked over at her. She could sense his... compassion? Gods, she hoped it wasn't pity. She already hated that she was a burden to both of them. She didn't want their pity too. Her gaze fell to her hands as Mason's arm wrapped around her and he placed a soft kiss upon her cheek. "I'm sorry this has all happened to you," he whispered into her ear. Did he mean the fight with Alex? Ajax? Himself?... Maybe it was a bit of all of it.
She let herself sink into his hold slightly as she looked between him and Trinity. "It wasn’t always bad, you know?" Andy admitted to them both. "I don’t think it got bad, or I ever really noticed it, until Alex became… unhinged. He was so focused on her and I… had my own problems." Then it all just started coming out. Like a dam was broken and everything that was bottled up in her flooded out. "Daniel’s death, the underworld… and I felt like everywhere I turned there was fighting. You and Ajax… you and me."
For a moment she grew silent. Andy's fingers tugged at the hem of her shirt. "Gods did we fight a lot... I don’t think we could go a day without arguing." She began to move her hands like weighing the different arguments. "You were mad at me because I spent the night with Ajax. I was mad at you because you slept with Eve. We both thought each other deserved better and…" Her voice trailed off.
Was that it? Was it all that simple the whole time but either of them had been too stubborn to see it? All their arguments and fighting simply because they thought each other deserved better? Or was it more than that? Part of her always felt that a piece of it was jealousy. But it wasn't like Mason ever let anyone know how he felt unless it was anger... the one emotion he was more than happy to share. Andy wanted to ask him, but part of her knew she'd never get a straight answer, and if she did it wouldn't be while Trinity was there. But maybe, just maybe this all at least meant the fighting would stop... For now at least.
"Ajax and I might have fought more, but we were barely around each other," Andy continued hoping to sweep her previous comments under the rug. "Alex took every waking moment of his attention while I waited around for him. It was exhausting… constantly putting him first without receiving a fraction in return."
And with that comment, her eyes widened slightly. Andy sat upright, putting some distance between herself and Mason as the realization sunk in. "I’m sorry… I’m no better than him. He put Alex first, I put him first and you put me first… I’m your Ajax. Jesus." She sighed. Her elbows rested on her knees as she buried her face in her hands. No tears, she's shed plenty of those. Just disgust. Disgust with herself.
The more tender of the two tended to some much-needed cleaning duties including the blood from his face. "Andy.." he began to tell her to rest and stop wandering around on those tired muscles, but was quickly distracted by the gentleness of her care. Particularly a delicate swipe along his bottom lip. His eyes drifted to her own lips momentarily, a hand extending out to her waist automatically but before he could make contact she moved away handing him a dry towel which he could only nod his...disappointed thanks to.
"It wasn’t always bad, you know?" Andy replied. "I don’t think it got bad, or I ever really noticed it, until Alex became… unhinged. He was so focused on her and I… had my own problems." Trinity's lips pursed. Not in disagreement but because a change was hard to digest and Trinity never doubted Ajax’s love for Andy. She just thought he was a bit blind and impulsive to the extent, as Andy and Mason said, she kind of fell in second place. "Daniel’s death, the underworld… and I felt like everywhere I turned there was fighting. You and Ajax… you and me."
Trinity rested her chin on her crossed arms. Fighting could be stressful on yourself and others, it was easy to forget that. But not many people dove into a fight with the logic of: how this is going to affect the people afterwards.
Meanwhile Mason heard her out. Everybody had problems but he wasn't looking to argue and neither was Andy. She was telling her piece for once. "Gods did we fight a lot... I don’t think we could go a day without arguing. You were mad at me because I spent the night with Ajax. I was mad at you because you slept with Eve. We both thought each other deserved better and…"
Mason rose a half intrigued brow for the epic conclusion. But it never came from her mouth and he sighed out. "I fought with you because ever since the minotaur I knew you were special. I liked you pretty quickly and actually got my hopes up for you." Then you got interested in a Valis douche who demanded respect, never earned it, who also had attachment issues to his sister and you laid with him when it should have been... Mason didn't dare continue the thought. Spending the night with Ajax was a nice push over the edge for disappointment but it was early days when he thought she could do better.
"Ajax and I might have fought more, but we were barely around each other. Alex took every waking moment of his attention while I waited around for him. It was exhausting… constantly putting him first without receiving a fraction in return."
Hearing how fondly Andy reviewed him or wished for him kind of stung but it wasn't exactly new. To top it off she moved away.
Trinity felt a sting of her own but more towards some fractionless attention. To wait on that from your own boyfriend because of his sister's issues... Trinity rubbed her face in agitation. She should have hit them.
"I’m sorry… I’m no better than him. He put Alex first, I put him first and you put me first… I’m your Ajax. Jesus."
Image Well, Mason couldn't disagree or comfort her with any empty "there, there's". She wasn't the one in second place after all. Instead, while she hung her head down, Mason glanced up to Trinity and rose his brows. A simple told you so gesture. But he did think to pay Andy mercy by killing the silence again. "We talk about it a bit. So I know." That's all there was to it. He knew.
Trinity sucked in a breath. Andy would no doubt have questions and concerns about Mason's blunt done and dusted statement. Plus, he threw Trinity under the bus with the whole ‘we’. So, she joined in to begin the somewhat guilty explanation. “Mason and I have spoken about kind of where we are on the food chain. Where and how we're regarded among camp and it's not favorably.” She was pretty sure they both accepted that. Neither of them were chasing pity or assurance. Sometimes folks just drew the short straw.
She clucked her tongue once, turning the prime focus back to Andy's existing problems. “I’ve always thought family matters. But there’s a time when a sibling, close friend or partner, have to be accountable for their own actions and Ajax has shielded Alex so intensely. From blame and confrontation...he's coddled her and it...” she bit her lip to stop herself from swearing “it really irks me.” Particularly when it left her friend feeling the way she did. Friends even.
Mason had never been in agreeance so much in one day. "Me too," he muttered. He tapped Andy's leg as he laid back on her bed. "You don't need to be the third wheel," he sighed out placing his hands under his head. Control freaks tended to have some perverted tendencies...like threesomes. "I suppose I should express some regret for leaving you with a soulless version of him too. I knew something was wrong when I saw him.." he reflected. Andy was fresh out of some Underworld torture and Ajax was recently proclaimed dead.. Obviously he took after his father at the core, acting without a conscience led him to think with his dick and just be a caveman. "Didn't he hit on you too?" Mason tucked his chin to his chest peering at the blonde.
An uncomfortable and unnecessary spotlight had fallen on her again. “Ah, he was just a wanker in general that day.”
Mason grunted and closed his eyes. More so than usual she meant. God he was sore because of that asshole. "You know through all the shit I'm glad we got Daniel back." There he was being Mr. Brightside for once. He was also glad though maybe slightly regretful for laying on Andy's bed because he was comfortable. A lot more than in a chair overnight. He was still in his clothes from last night but couldn't be bothered to get changed or even get up.
While his eyes felt heavy and sleep was a welcoming prospect, he couldn't let himself drift off. He said he'd look after Andy and after a few insensitive comments, he couldn't let Andy drown in her thoughts or violent ones, no offense to Trinity. Mason smiled a little as a truly random subject changer entered his head. Courtest to probably thinking of his energetic friend's revival. "What kind of girls were you in high school?"
"She has been dealing with her brothers verbal and physical abuse for... years, I'd assume. And she's not crazy, or suicidal, or begging for help. She took it and accepted it, because to her, that protected other people. So, while it's not physical strength, it's mental and emotional. And you and I both have the emotional fortitude of tissue paper."
There was silence again. Everything that came out of Wes’ mouth made Liam sick to his stomach. In fact, Wes could probably pick up on just how quickly the aloof air around him began to drift into potent anger. It was all he could do to stave off kicking the Aphrodite child in the face. All that he could hear were excuses after excuses attempting to disguise Sloane’s weakness as strength. No battered man or woman staying with their abuser is strong for not leaving. That’s just a really sick dependency, or some kind of weird self-esteem issue that the son of Ares could barely fathom.
Everything else that Wes said was heard, but he’d not respond to it right now. His teeth were clenched, the muscles in his jaw were pulsing. A vein or two nearly burst out of his forehead. As much as he tried to stay his physical aggression, it just came. It never fails to be aroused. He couldn’t help it. Liam didn’t truly want to hurt anyone while he was here (except for Sylas), but what Wes said irked him. Every word dripped with irritation that enticed the beast, and it reeled its head and showed its face as though there was nothing human to control it anymore. As if the only thought was painted in vivid red, and it was rage - anger, annoyance. To make things worse…
….It was absolutely enthralling.
He shifted quickly, lunging forward onto his knees to face Wes. Two large hands shoot out and grab at the collar of the man’s tank top, pulling him into the son of Ares to look that Beast dead in its eyes. Liam was there - he is always there - but this part of him was king at this very moment, and there was little that the man, himself, could do to hold it back. When he spoke, it was through gritted teeth - his lips curled in a near snarl as his breath was inches away from Wes’ face, "You call staying with your abuser strength? Mentally, physically, emotionally - that’s not strength. It’s weakness. We are our own people. We make our own choices. We don’t make choices because we fear what other people will do. Other people are not our responsibility." His grip became tighter, his knuckles paling as he continued. "She was strong the moment she left that fucking cabin - whether it was with me or without me. Leaving is the hardest part. That's when strength comes." He took in a deep breath, closing his eyes for a moment.
"Men like me - like Sylas, we know that. We like women like Sloane - obedient, self-blaming, afraid that we might hurt someone else. That’s what we like." As he spoke, it was fairly obvious that he was speaking on experiences, perhaps even being in the same shoes as Sylas. Maybe not emotionally or mentally manipulative, but physically aggressive - taking what he wants from people that he could easily put in his place. Even battering women because - why not? They let him. So long as he never hurt anyone else. So long as maybe one day he’d change and not be that man. But men like him and Sylas? They never changed. Never.
It took a few moments, but he was able to calm the Beast down and settle. When he realized that he had the death grip on his half-sister’s boyfriend, he loosened his grip and withdrew completely. "Don’t say shit like that to Sloane. I don’t want her going back to him because she thinks she’s protecting anyone. I want her to stay away and live her own life. Sylas is his own person… she is not responsible for his actions." He flopped back down on the ground and threw his head back against the tree trunk with a heavy ‘thwap’. He went silent again and attempted to quell that hungry rage at the pit of his stomach.
Around that time, Rae and Sloane came about. He didn't bother to open his eyes when he heard his name, as his greatest weakness right now was rushing away from the scene leaving him to feel a hundred times worse than he did already. By this time, the air around him had settled to something less thickly laced with bitterness. It was calm again - like a storm that rushed in, tossed everything around, and then swiftly blew past to reveal a brightly shining sun. It came in quick, but the damage was already done. She'd likely only see what was left behind - whatever distress Wes must have felt, or the fact that Liam looked so damned defeated. Enough to be completely silent even as she called out his name.
"I don’t understand women, and I don’t care if I piss her off. I will always be honest with her and myself. That means that I will piss her off, and she’ll probably stomp off and go cry about it somewhere. But if she’s not with that brother of hers? I don’t care. I will figure it out as I go, but for now - my only worry is that she will go back, and if I have to be the asshole, I will be the asshole." His broad shoulders rolled in a shrug, and that was a concluding statement. An Ares child didn’t live to be told what to do and how to do it, and sometimes emotions had to be pushed aside for the better option. He could live with Sloane hating him, but he would make her crawl over his dead cold body before she went back to living the way she did.
Naturally, Cherise tagged along with Daniel. She did ask for an explanation, so it would do her little good to deny him the opportunity. Honestly? She wasn’t that upset with him. Confused? Yes. Upset? She’s not all that sure.
When they came to a quiet clearing, perfectly sunlit and warming as the day progressed into the afternoon, she stood next to him and braced herself for the explanation. It would hopefully help clear things up so that she could focus on other things. Admittedly, she’s spent far too much of her time wondering about what the hell was going on, and what she may or may not have said or done in a whole twenty-four hours.
Then Daniel began to recount the story of what transpired here, and Cherise could tell that there was anxiety in his voice and written across his face. As he unpeeled his shirt from his torso and displayed his scars, she stepped in front of him and stood so that they were face-to-face. She unabashedly stepped forward, closing the distance between them as they had done once or twice before. Small curious fingers gently ran over a couple of them, but then he shifted and caused her to withdraw her touch. She listened with the calm sympathy of a friend until he revealed something that clearly took her aback.
That he had died. He had truly died. Wide-eyed, she looked up at him, and she was horrified by the thought of what she imagined death felt like - looked like, even. "You died?" There was shock in her soft, almost whispering, tone of voice. This wasn’t something that one heard everyday, and she certainly hadn’t been prepared for such a revelation. She stood there quietly and allowed him to continue with his confessions, glad that she wasn’t the root cause of his misunderstanding - yet also a little guilty for making him relive what she was certain must have been especially damaging to him. Usually people just died, they did not have to deal with the consequences of coming back. That, and she was new to camp - she was hardly as affected by this as others must have been. She wondered what his sister must have gone through, or even his friends. There was a lot to think about, but very little included herself.
There were so many pressing questions at the tip of her tongue, but none were appropriate. Cherise just did what Cherise does best. She smiled her brightest and warmest smile and then stepped into him, throwing her arms around him for a reassuring and hopefully sympathetic embrace. There were no words to say when someone tells you that they died. At least, there were no words that she could find at the moment. It didn’t appear that his death was what he thought about the most - but that he didn’t know how to let her know. That must have bothered him a great deal, and she wanted to assure him that everything was a-okay in her book.
She pulled away, not her arms, but just tilted her head back and looked up at him with that smile of hers, "Well, thank the gods that you are here, Daniel. But for your transgression of withholding vital information, you must put on a blindfold while I shoot apples on the top of your head for training. That’s your punishment." Was that a jest or a sincere desire? Well, he was going to find out.
She wasn’t dismissing this whole ordeal, but it was a lot to unpack. It was… unsettling in so many ways. Cherise also didn’t want to force Daniel to dwell on it. He needed to move on from such a dark time in his life, and she’s content to leave it there. Explanation accepted - no further in depth talk necessary. The past was in the past. But she’d keep it in the back of her head, just in case anything creeps back up because of it.
"We’ll call it trust building," she chuckled at him, stepping away but grabbing one of his hands in the process. She’d drag him off to train, and if he so pleased, to find the others to join them. It was about time that the Demigods here did something other than piss each other off or make-out.
"We talk about it a bit. So I know," Mason replied. It was simple and did not placate her. Although Andy didn't need it. Part of her probably knew it, all along, but more in denial rather than acceptance.
Trinity inhaled sharply which drew Andy's attention. She looked up slightly, but most of her head still rested in her hands. "Mason and I have spoken about kind of where we are on the food chain. Where and how we're regarded among camp and it's not favorably."
Her gaze fell slightly as she let out a soft sigh. "But I'm not... camp. You guys know that right?" Was she asking herself or them? Andy wasn't quite sure. The question came out more rhetorical regardless. "I might not always be the best friend... But you guys are very important to me." While she spoke, her fingers idly picked at Mason's blood that dried on the sleeves of her shirt. "I don't know if it helps, but I don't think I'm high up on that totem pole either." She gave a weak smile but didn't look up.
"I’ve always thought family matters. But there’s a time when a sibling, close friend or partner, have to be accountable for their own actions and Ajax has shielded Alex so intensely. From blame and confrontation...he's coddled her and it...it really irks me."
Andy didn't now what to say or if there was anything else she could say. She simply nodded her head while inhaling sharply. They weren't wrong and she agreed, but that didn't make everything that had come to pass any easier. It was like everything did a 180 which left her confused on many fronts. Even if her own situation was less than savory, that didn't justify Mason and Trinity feeling like they were at the bottom of the barrel. Andy always thought of herself on the same playing field, but it's not until given an outside perspective that people really did keep the Valises on a pedestal. If it was anyone else at camp who would have killed another, let alone a child of Zeus, they would have long been locked away... or killed. But not Alex.
"Me too," Mason's words along with a tap to her leg brought her back to the present. With that, he laid back before continuing. "You don't need to be the third wheel." Maybe she didn't, but to some extent maybe she deserved. Part of her has always wondered if she brought this upon herself, if there was something more she could have done. But to what end? Andy wanted to be her old self and the path her life has gone down has taken her far from that.
"I suppose I should express some regret for leaving you with a soulless version of him too. I knew something was wrong when I saw him.." Andy's brows furrowed as she focused on her hands. Some wounds never seem to heal and those were definitely some of them. The Underworld scarred her and what she returned to only seemed to deepen those wounds. She was gullible and naive back then. "Didn't he hit on you too?" This time the question was directed at Trinity rather than her.
She actually raised a brow slightly as she looked over at Trinity. "Ah, he was just a wanker in general that day."
"We're really digging this one up again?" Andy spared a glance to both of them. Her comment might have come of dry but there was a small sliver of sarcasm or even joking in her words. "Some of us learn lessons the hard way." She shrugged slightly, although instantly regretted the movement as it angered her sore muscles. "I now know not to risk my life for someone who won't do the same in turn for me." A weak smile graced her face as she clapped her hands together. "I'll tell you what though... I've had enough of these near death experiences. They're exhausting." That time Andy actually managed a laugh and while it hurt, it was nice to not be so serious all the time.
"You know through all the shit I'm glad we got Daniel back." It was rare... For Mason to be the one with the silver linings. Usually that was Andy's job. But it seemed like that day, the tables had turned.
"Me too... Although, I wish he didn't return alone." Andy didn't explain her meaning, she didn't have to. It wasn't fair that one of them got their sibling back while the other was snuffed from existence. She didn't know Jennova and they might not have gotten along, but that didn't mean the girl deserved to die. But sadly, something like that was out of her power.
Then there was a comfortable silence. It didn't last too terribly long, but it was nice. It seemed with so many emotions and things stirring around camp the past day or so of opening up about all of their struggles helped. None of them needed to bottle up what they were feeling, it never did any good. But the burden of all of their honesty and truths weighed heavily at times. Luckily, Trinity seemed to have her life in the most order at camp that was possible... At least compared to herself and Mason.
And while Andy's thoughts roamed, Mason's apparently stirred with more questions. "What kind of girls were you in high school?"
Andy chuckled softly. She slowly turned to look back at Mason, being sure not to strain anything too far. He wasted no time in making himself comfortable on her bed and he looked exhausted. She had nearly forgotten that he probably didn't get a single moment of sleep the night before. She could hardly imagine the amount of stress he went through in the past 24 hours. Beyond worrying by her bedside, blaming himself for what happened and mulling over the previous night over and over... It made sense.
"Hey," she said softly as her hand gently rested on his leg. "You can get some sleep. I promise I won't go anywhere so you don't have to worry about me getting myself killed," she joked.
After a moment or two, she pursed her lips slightly before answering his question. "I grew up on army bases. So, I don't know if that counts as 'high school'. But, I was the weird kid. I never really had friends before camp... at least not living ones. I can speak to ghosts, so everyone thought I was the crazy girl who talked to herself and thought she could move stuff with her mind. You're actually my first real friend," she concluded looking over at Mason.
She looked over at Trinity and smiled. "I'm sure your experiences are far more normal. You probably just beat up a lot of idiot boys," Andy teased. She also lightly smacked Mason's leg. "And what about you?"
Image Duke sprang to life or so it seemed to him, chest heaving in and out, pale lips quivering. He joined darkness for god knows how long but due to the fact that Liv was nearby...it couldn't have been that long. He shifted to face the daughter of Poseidon, torn between giving her a coherent piece of his mind or thanking her for the humane help. Instead, he settled on a nod to her. Thanking aloud someone who put your life in danger in the first place was too bizarre.
It was only then he noticed the smaller more quiet girl next to Liv. How long had she been there? Did she watch the whole show or convince Liv to save him? Duke glanced down to his body, rid of the puncture marks her snakes had left in him. There was still a pinching sensation where the teeth had been and a burning in his lungs but likely that was his mind not keeping up with his body being healed. After sitting and recomposing himself for long enough, decidedly, he pushed off the ground and rose to full height and offered Liv a hand up. Then the blonde, still unsure of her involvement. She certainly didn't give off malicious vibes and until he gave her reason not to, he'd treat her with some respect.
Feeling no compulsion to talk or explain the situation, Duke looked to the sky where he had last seen the commotion of lights, brows pinched together, pensive. Had he missed his window to join the Valises in Olympus? He couldn’t imagine the gods waiting on him. But supposedly, his view of them was rather outdated. Even so, he couldn't say he regretted training / nearly dying. He turned his head away from the distance and back onto the present company. "Did you learn something at least?"
He hoped it was an experience for her too. Something revealing about her character or maybe it wasn't as deep as that at all. A simple power exercise for the slim brunette.
She didn't ask for feedback, but Duke gave it. "I think you have amazing potential. Good application and good understanding of your powers.... I'd venture a guess you know that too somewhere. It's just about how and when you use them." The daughter of Poseidon proved a degree of instability. Duke saw a live wire in her and a ticking bomb.
He spared a quick glance to the blonde, letting her know that was meant for her too. His last statement applied to most camp attendees. In the end it all depended what you used your abilities for. "You can tag team in for me," he told her and actually half smiled at the image of the two facing off with whatever powers. Maybe it'd bring the more timid out of her shell abruptly.
Duke picked up his top that was abandoned in the sand giving it a brief shake before pulling it back on. If the others were still around, he'd arrive in Olympus in quite a state. But again, it was something he was unapologetic for. And because of that he found himself moving towards Liv, placing a hand on a pale upper arm to grab her attention. "Thank you." Not for saving him but for being herself and honest. Unrestrained and raw. An experience even if it was a reminder why he hated large bodies of water.
"I'm going to Olympus for a while but otherwise, I'm usually here for anything. My cabin's open for a little retreat, warmth, anything."
"Next time, make it a tsunami with sharks." Once again, he flashed half a smile then nodded to Iliana before finally leaving that forsaken beach behind.
While eager for a subject change, she could only pull a stiff smile at the new topic. Those Valises got away with too much. But she preoccupied herself listening to Andy's youth type.
"I grew up on army bases. So, I don't know if that counts as 'high school'. But, I was the weird kid. I never really had friends before camp... at least not living ones. I can speak to ghosts, so everyone thought I was the crazy girl who talked to herself and thought she could move stuff with her mind. You're actually my first real friend." A much easier smile passed her lips at that.
"I'm sure your experiences are far more normal. You probably just beat up a lot of idiot boys," Andy said, drawing a laugh out of Trinity.
Well compared to a girl talking to invisible friends and moving around bases, she supposed her experience was more normal. “It’s not a hard margin next to yours. But I didn't really belong in high school. I kind of transformed into that guy that was there sometimes, on and off when I felt like until I committed to dropping out. Dad threw me in camp pretty young and I figured this was more my speed. Still didn't stop me beating up idiot boys though,” Trinity smirked at Andy. “I almost fell for peer pressure...weird days,” she remarked. Because these days, there was no temptation to go with the crowd or norm.
"And what about you?" Andy asked Mason.
She stuck around a bit for storytime and to assure her friends were in better condition. If not physically, it seemed they were in better spirits at least. But her mind was tolled with other concerns. She trusted Liam and Wes, didn't mind Sloane but there was a nervous kind of tick in her brain going off about them. Who knew she was such a worrier?
Trinity smiled warmly and got up. “Okay, I’m off to make sure Liam is playing nicely with Wes.” She was about to leave them in peace, heading for the door but she paced back in the room, wiggling two fingers in a V at them. “Guard your face, look after her, and don't show an enemy mercy when they don't deserve it.” The first two tips directed towards Mason, while the latter was for Andy. She quickly embraced Andy because even though she was fine now, life was precious. Plus she had been through shit. Add some supped up impulsive demigods and anything could happen. “Call, shout or come get me if you need anything, okay?”
It took a bit of walking around and huffing and grunting to find the boys, but when she found the right location....gods did they stick out. One hulk-like figure with this intimidating air, and a model that was approachable, hanging out together.
“You two good? Not interrupting boy talk?”
She neared the two and pat Liam’s shoulder. He probably wasn’t one to stew in thought or stress about impressions but, “She’ll come around. You’ll only be in the doghouse for a while but you did the right thing overall.” Sloane still had some flawed logic and ways to go, but that boot up the arse got her in gear. Or at least showed she possessed more than a suffer in silence side. Could stand her ground when required. That at least served as some relief to Trinity.
“I also kinda told Iliana you attacked Sylas.” She gestured vaguely around Iliana's height as if it would paint a clear picture of the small blonde she was talking about. “So if she gives you those large frightened mouse eyes and questions you, that's half on me.” The other half definitely belonged to his own demeanor. At least the looking at him like he was a beast part.
She shot a wary smile to Wes, still unsure if telling that girl that information alone was out of line or too much. But what was said was already done.
Image Despite his poking, Andy was calm and subdued overall. None of that sticking up for him crap when he wouldn't do the same. For that he was glad.
"Some of us learn lessons the hard way," she replied to a particularly hefty topic. She shrugged. "I now know not to risk my life for someone who won't do the same in turn for me. I'll tell you what though... I've had enough of these near death experiences. They're exhausting." Even when she laughed, Mason rolled his eyes and shook his head but avoided raining on her parade any further.
"Me too... Although, I wish he didn't return alone." Mason would have loved to see Jennova again. But that was definitely hoping for too much. And they should have been glad enough in getting Daniel by some miracle.
Mason tried to smile a little. "It makes sense that Daniel would escape death. Yeah, if anyone were going to do it it'd be him." He wished the same for his sister of course and this wasn't one of those: 'you're fortunate whereas I'm not' situations because Daniel was a true friend to him and he was grateful to have him back. "Damn weasel could always get out of a tight spot."
After some fond reflection on the camp trickster and Mason making himself at home on his friend's bed, Andy put a hand on his leg, drawing his eyes to her. "You can get some sleep. I promise I won't go anywhere so you don't have to worry about me getting myself killed." He grunted. As if she'd dare, and if she did he'd drag her ass right back and they could return to arguing.
Although his eyes closed, he heard her. He was listening. It should have been sad and meant she lived a somewhat lonely lifestyle for a good heap of time but Mason only smiled helped along by the fact she admitted he was her first real friend.
"Makes sense. Only the weird kid would make friends with a son of Hades."
Andy shifted to the conversation to Trinity beating up boys and honestly, Mason imagined that was pretty much it. A bunch of guys trying to hit on the fit tomboy blonde, acting like they were top of the world for the daughter of Ares to knock them down.
Instead, in a niche, Trinity admitted to being more of the ghost. Then going to camp and continuing to beat up boys.
“I almost fell for peer pressure...weird days.”
Now that was amusing. "Forced to join the cheerleading squad rather than the football or wrestling team?"
Andy smacked his leg lightly, and Mason peeked his eyes open with a lazy bat at the air chuckling. "And what about you?"
"Me? The popular guy." He replaced his hands under his head and closed his eyes again. "I mainly kept to myself. Tried to anyway. I tolerated school as a best-case scenario. Grazed by to keep the family off my back but that fell apart pretty quickly. School and grades became irrelevant." Bigger fish and picture and all that, they'd get it. He didn't care to get in-depth about it now.
“Okay, I’m off to make sure Liam is playing nicely with Wes.” Mason would have waved her off but frankly couldn't be bothered. Her footsteps disappeared before racing back. “Guard your face, look after her, and don't show an enemy mercy when they don't deserve it.” He exhaled through his nose and smiled, saluting the captain off.
“Call, shout or come get me if you need anything, okay?”
"I got her. We'll be fine."
When the blonde actually left them, he lifted an eye open to spot his charge, the daughter of Hecate, before she wandered about to do anymore cleaning or little house chores. Mason grabbed the back of Andy's shirt and tugged her down to lay back with him. "Make it easier on me will you and stop shifting around. Not all of us got to be peacefully unconscious for hours. But really Andy I'll get whatever you want or do whatever you need doing around the cabin."
That was his plan anyway in addition to moving to the couch so Andy could have the bed to herself and rest easy. But his eyes grew heavier and motivation to move was harder. She said he could sleep. Yet there remained a nagging thought or two keeping him on the threshold of sleep and awake. His brows twitched to a furrow. "You okay?" He mumbled. He had lost track of how many times he asked her that in one day but he wanted to be sure. And permission to sleep without a guilty conscience.
No, Liv didn't ask for his praise or criticism. In fact, she didn't want any of it at all. The pair of them were standing, and Poseidon's daughter had her arms crossed and expression flat. "Just stay away from me, Duke," she told him pointedly as he was done with his word vomit. God, that guy just talked on and on.
She was about to move when he decided to put a hand on her arm, and it was strangely comforting yet also slightly irritating. She almost killed him, and here he was - trying to be a good guy. As if Liv wasn't already greatly conflicted, Duke only served to add more to that plate. She wasn't going to correct him when he thanked her for something she didn't do, as that's what she believed the gratefulness to have stemmed from. Liv didn't heal him, her father did. She hadn't done anything other than nearly kill him. Yet, she also didn't want to put on her guilty face, even if she felt that way deep inside. That would imply she cared just a little bit, and she didn't want to. The people at this Camp were just snakes in a garden, and it was annoying.
"Then go, Duke. Enjoy Olympus," she swatted his hand away before he could withdraw it himself. "There won't be a next time," she promised as she stepped to the side. Poor Iliana would be harshly shoulder-checked as the emotionally volatile Liv moved past her. "You stay away, too, if you know what's good for you."
Liv didn't want to be around people. Today seemed like one of those days - one that would be slow and uneventful. She'd be glad about that. Without further words to be exchanged, she left the meek blond on the beach and wandered off to her cabin. Along the way, she had picked up and tugged on her clothes, walked past Liam, Trinity, and Wes, and eventually shut her cabin door behind her. She flopped onto her bed face-first once she got into her room and decided that she'd just nap this day away. If the world was fair, she'd just nap this whole Camp Athens experience away.
Whether Rae knew better than to bring up the fact that Sloane had clearly been crying at some point or she just didn't care, was up in the air. The redhead had very little concern over other people's emotions, given that there were few things at Camp Athens to shed tears over. In her opinion, anyway. At the same time, she was aware of the very real emotions of other people. Perhaps that is why she flashed a swift smile at the poor joke regarding the woman's lineage. Sloane was clearly not a daughter of Ares.
Both of the ladies agreed that it was way past the morning hours, as much as Rae hated to admit that she accidentally allowed time to fly by and missed breakfast. Or did she? Gods, she can't remember. So, the girls ventured down one of the Camp's many forested paths toward the cafeteria.
All was going well, and then there were two men before them. Two very handsome men, too. Of course, the redhead put on that flirty smile and gave them a cute finger waggling wave. There was Wes - she didn't know him. In fact, she doesn't recall ever meeting him. Then there was Liam - the one that practically ran away from her cabin door this morning. She stared at the hulk for a few seconds, recalling that humorous scene with a mute chuckle that simply shook her shoulders. Then it hit her - Sloane had been there that morning, hovering in the background. Curious. The women had long since stopped in their tracks, and Sloane and Liam seemed to exchange some kind of look.
Let's face it. It was not hard to put two and two together. Sloane had been crying, Liam looks like a wounded animal, and Wes was just... Wes. Before Rae could say or do anything, Sloane had grabbed her arm and was well on her way to dragging the Artemis child away from the scene. Naturally, she went along with it, giving the boys a parting wave as she was hauled away. Luckily, Wes and Liam seemed content to stay where they were.
When they finally stopped, and Rae's arm was released, she gave the spot where Sloane had gripped it a gentle rub. "Long story," Sloane informed her, and Rae raised a brow at that.
There was a light scoff to her lips shortly after they resumed their walk, "I'm going to go ahead and just say that it's probably not a story I haven't heard, and it really doesn't concern me." Rae wasn't trying to be an unfriendly person, but sympathy did not come easy to her. That, and she really wanted to avoid the drama of the Camp. There was something about a bunch of girls and boys together that created a nasty cocktail of love triangles, drama, etc - and with all the things that a Demigod could do, it wasn't wise to meddle in the affairs of others.
She turned to face her slightly as they walked, her steps taken sideways for a few minutes. She had her arms crossed over her chest, "Though, I do want to point out that I've never seen a problem solved by crying over or avoiding it. Honestly, women need to stop saying sorry and crying all of the time. Avoiding things... crying... it's so exhausting. It's a big problem with our sex, not that you asked."
They were at the Mess Hall in no time, and as the two ladies put their meals together and sat down, it was quiet. Rae was aware that her opinions were just that - opinions, and that they were not always well-received. Whether or not she was thought of as nice or rude was of no concern to her, and holding her tongue didn't do any party well. "I don't know what's going on, but..." she began halfway through their meal, "If you need any advice on men, I am pretty good at thinking like one. I can't promise that I will hold things back, but I don't agree in the whole white lie to spare feelings thing." She waved her fork around with those last few words, then went back to eating.
