Introduction

Background

The Book of Invasions (Leabhar Gabhála) form the major part of the Irish Mythological Cycle. The book tells the stories of successive invasions and settlement of the Celtic people in Erin (Ireland).

Image

Fomorians:

The Fomorians were possibly nothing more than pirates or raiders, since they were never considered to be Celtic people (Irish). The Fomorians were race of strange beings. The Fomorians were ugly, misshapen giants, portrayed as cruel, violent and oppressive. The Fomorians had fought the Partholanians, Nemedians and Tuatha Dé Dananns. The Fomorians ruled over the Nemedians and the Dananns, extracting tributes and taxes from them. These two groups suffered considerable from the oppression and tyranny of the Fomorians.

Tuatha Dé Danann:

Who according to the legends were the Children of the goddess Danu, though they would later become regarded as Celtic deities by the pagan Irish, and in later centuries as fairies. The Dananns lived on the northern isles upon which stood four magical, otherworldly cities, each one ruled by a druid. The cities were called Falias, Gorias, Finias and Murias. In each city, there was a treasure, a talisman that the Danann would later use in their war against the Fomorians. The Danann learned all sorts of arts and crafts, philosophy and warfare, science and magic. They were scholars, craftsmen, and warriors. Their descendants had gained otherworldly powers.

The Battle of Magh Tuiredh

The two races sent parties to talk. The first race was the Tuatha De Danann who came with finely crafted and honed spears and weapons. The second race was the Fomorian's. They were the native race, with weaponry that was far inferior to that of the Danann. The Formorians did not want to talk truce, nor share the land with the Danann. The Danann refused to leave and so the Formorians declared war against them. The Danann, using superior war tactics and weaponry defeated the Fomorians, though the Dananns lost many people in the battle. The Fomorians lost 100,000 warriors, among those killed was their king.

The Danann were aided in battle by four magical weapons. These weapons had come from the four great cities: Falias, Gorias, Findias and Murias. The Stone of Destiny (Lia Fail), a stone that would make ones desires manifest themselves. The Invincible Spear, which according to legend had been carved out of the most ancient oak in all creation, and to be indestructible. The Green Armour of Belldor, rendering it's wearer immune to injury. The forth magical item was The sword of Fraegarthach, which increases the inherent fighting ability of its wielder 10,000 fold.

The plot:

Hitler has procured three of the magical items, all but the magical sword. He intends on discovering the secret of their power and to use that power to create an enhanced fighting force. As the allied forces make their way to the heart of Berlin Hitler is gathering an elite force around him, consisting of the greatest soldiers in the SS. His only hope is to endow these soldiers with the power of the four items in an attempt to alter the outcome of the war

Available Characters:

There are eight official characters to choose from, some of these are specialty characters however, as of yet I have not decided how far into fantasy this RPG will go. In the Indiana Jones films the supernatural was only a small part of the action in the story. As a result some of the characters, in particular the faeries and troll-like creatures may only show up briefly within the over all structure of the RPG. So one should keep this in mind when choosing one of these peripheral characters to roleplay.

1. Tuatha Dé Danann warrior (female)
2. Fomorian giant (male)
3. Indiana Jones
4. Nazi Soldier
5. Nazi Scholar
6. Nazi Scientist
7. Or a character of your own design

Abegail stood in her parent’s kitchen. She was having the same argument with her mother that she had been having every day since she came home. Abegail came to visit her family just like she promised herself she would. She and Walter had survived their run in with the Nazi’s while trying to find the black stone of Lucifer. At times Abegail had worried that she would never again see the green hills of her homeland. Now home, Abegail was growing weary of the constant nagging of her mother.

One of many children, Abegail was the only one not married with little ones of her own. Abegail preferred books to babes. Myths to bottles. “This was supposed to be a break from it all.” Abegail grumbled to herself as she listened to her mother rattle on and on about how Abegail should be married. Wiping her hands on her apron Abegail cut her mother off. “I am in need of some air. Keep prattlin’ to ye-self, yer the only one listenin’ anyway.” Abegail’s accent, which she so carefully tried to smooth out when teaching, had come back in full force since she had been home. “It’s time I think of heading back...” Abegail muttered to herself. It wasn’t the first time Abegail considered going back.

Abegail sat in the grass and looked out over the green fields. Footsteps approached behind her and involuntarily Abegail tensed. She had been shot at and snuck up on far too much in her recent history and was still jumpy. A man cleared his throat. “Dr McHugh?” Abegail turned and looked at the man. “Aye, I’d be her. What can I do ye for?” The man held out an envelope. “For you.”

Taking the envelope Abegail thanked the man as he walked away. With a frown she opened it. Inside was a letter from one of her old professors. He had died recently. Abegail had attended the funeral so a letter from him came as quite a surprise. He was a professor of Irish History at Abegail’s alma mater.
Reading it Abegail’s face paled. The man wrote on how he had unwittingly helped an SS officer procure three artifacts and was helping them figure out the location of the fourth and how to use them together. He stated he had no idea that the man he was working with was part of the SS. The professor wrote how he worked with him as a historian and expert on the area, that the items they found were of profound significance to Ireland. Abegail knew exactly what he was referring to. The weapons of the Danann, the fae race that had conquered the Fomorian’s. One of the oldest stories of Ireland. That they were true, that they really existed and that they were now in the hands of the SS was profound.

“Oh what have ye done...” Abegail knew she had to do something. She knew exactly who to contact. Abegail ran into the house and penned two letters.

The letters were identical.

“My dear friend,
I would be honoured if you would come for a visit here in Ireland. I am in need of your opinion on a matter of great importance. I do not ask this favour lightly but some old friends of ours have stretched their hand out to the emerald isles where items of extreme importance may be at risk. I will explain more in person.
Yours,
Abegail”

These she sent express courier to America. They were intended for the hands and eyes of two of Abegail’s colleagues and friends.
One of these letters was addressed to Dr. Walter Rivers and the other to Dr. Indiana Jones. Both men had worked with Abegail at Marshall in the States. Both men dealt with archaeology and the occult. Both men were needed for this. Abegail knew the history of the weapons better than either man and together maybe they could find the find weapon before Hitler’s SS did.

Abegail hoped they would come and help her figure out what to do to stop Hitler’s influence here in the land of her birth, the land of warriors both real and mythical.

It did not take long for Dr. Jones to get the letter, nor for the CIA to learn about it and send him on a paid trip to Ireland. Even better yet, the paid trip to Ireland involved some of the best food and a guard of 2 jets. The CIA did kind of owe him...and they really still do. Do, Indy got a nice flight to Ireland. Wait a damn second! Since when is anything this easy! Hence....

All of the sudden, alarms went out everywhere as the Pilot told Indy he had a incoming call from Washington (Which shouldn't really be possible as they are over Ireland in the middle of the air, but i was a good guess to say it was the CIA). Which was really just a warning the Hitler has put a bounty on Indies head. Which changed really nothing, except perhaps for bounty hunter attacks and assassins to come after them. More often anyways.

SO, 2 jets and 4 Nazi planes were fighting overhead. They were actually flying near Abegail's house, give or take a few miles, when the attack happened. Initially, the plan was to land in a nearby field. But that went to hell when one of the fighters crashed into the ship, damaging a wing and engine. The jets took out the other 3, managing to lose none of their own. SO, there was only one option. Parachute out. So, Indy and the pilot got parachutes, ejecting from the plane and parachuting to the ground.

And of course, Indy aimed himself right in front of Abigail's house. Typical.

Abegail heard the planes overhead. She didn't pay much attention. With the war going on the planes flew over often. Lately they were taking routes that would bring them over Ireland. Abegail didn't even look up from the book she was looking at. Pen in one hand, she was making notes about the legend of Danann. Then there was ruckus outside. One her her nieces came running up to the house. "There's fightin'!" Abegail frowned and stood up and went to the window

Stepping up to it she could see the two jets and four other planes overhead. Abegail made note that the four were nazi planes. She shivered remembering her last run in with them. Then in the blink of an eye she saw the crash. Abegail was startled. She threw open the window. "Get ye home, now!" The tone was harsh but she wanted her niece to head home as quickly as possible. No telling what would happen now.

Abegail rushed to the front door. She threw it open just in time to see Indy landing in the front lawn. Abegail blinked. As he planted his feet Abegail walked out to meet him. Her arms crossed, she smiled as she watched the parachute fall around him. "Would be typical of ye to make such and entrance. Ye can't arrive in a car like a normal person?"
Abegail smiled at Indy. "It's good to see ye, I am glad ye came. No comments on the accent now, understand? I know it's more than normal but I havna been teaching since...just no teasin' from ye." Abegail gave Indy a teasing look and stepped closer to him. "I am glad ye came, I am hoping Walter will come too. This is, well I will explain more once ye get settled. Have ye got a place to stay? I am sure Ma and Da would put ye up iffin ye need a place."

Unfortunately Walter was giving a lecture at the time and so he was not at home when the mail arrived, and his well-developed habit of forgetting to check his mail would ensure that he would be a few days late receiving Abigail's letter. Strangely enough, the lecture that Walter was giving at the time concerned itself with the concept and myths associated with Witches and their familiars, small creatures said to be demons that had taken the form of various animals. Many of these myths included tales of tiny humanlike creatures with special powers and abilities, and that the humans in league with these beasts and monsters would be given great weapons of power. These tales of course were purely fictional and were not meant to be taken literally, rather they were to be taken figuratively, as warnings against associating oneself with such fanciful beliefs and practices, their other purpose was simply to scare peasants into the pews of their local churches. Walter would soon be on his way home, the lecture that he had given at Marshall College went very well, at least he thought so. Walter had been witness to many strange things, his last adventure had opened his eyes to things that he had never conceived as existing in the real daylight, modern world of the 1940s. Walter Miller was frankly doubter when it came to stories of Elves, fairies, and tiny demonic creatures. Once back at his house Walter had uncharacteristically checked the mailbox and the unlikely possibility that he had received some kind of correspondence or package. Walter was pleasantly surprised when he received Abigail's letter, but as he opened the letter the happy sensation turned to fearful trepidation. Although he had his doubts about the entire situation Abigail had asked him for his help and he was not about to let her down.

"Wenn du zurückkommst Sie auf den ersten Blick erschossen!", a soldier yelled at Bridget. "When will ya get it through ya heads, I don't understand a word ya just said", she yelled back then the German soldier pointed a gun at her. She put her hands up, "Well I guess I can understand that", she said as she picked up her pack and left the area. "Damnit! thats the third time this week those bloody krauts have booted me off my dig site and it's really starting ta piss me off", she was beginning to think they were following her around or something. Just when she thought she was onto something they would com around a boot her out. She picked up a stone on the road and chucked it into a field, "How'm I gonna get any research done if I cant research", the museum in Dublin already thought she was eccentric for her belief that some of the mythological stories were true. She sighed and began to whistle as she made her way down the road hoping some sort of idea would come to her on how she was going to sneak back into her dig sites.

Thats when she noticed planes fighting over head "Bloody hell! if it's not one things it's another", and she went running for cover; she came across what appeared to be a shed and she dove into it trying not to get shot. She breathed a sigh of relief, as she heard one of the planes crash, very close to where she had been standing. "I just can't get a break can I either the damned Nazi's are tryin to shoot me, or tryin to drop airplanes on me", when she decided to coast was clear she came out. "Curious I wonder whose land I'm on", she said as she stretched, as she made her way to the front of the house she saw parachutes sitting in the front yard, and she could see the smoke from the crashed plane. "Good God, I hope these people aren't being attacked by Nazi's or somethin", she said; that's when she noticed the name on the letter box "McHugh... so this is doc McHugh's place.... maybe I should knock and see if every things okay. The worst that could happen is some more Nazi's sticks a gun in me face... again", she said as she knocked on the front door.

What the Nazi soldier said: "If you come back you'll be shot on sight!"

Abegail didn't wait for Indy's reply. Once inside her mother would never let him agree to stay anywhere else. Abegail led Indy in. "Ma, we have a visitor. I am hoping we will have another in a few days. Ma, this is Dr. Indiana Jones." Abegail's mother came out of the kitchen. Her eyes alight. "Blessed saints, Abegail a gentleman visitor? It's a pleasure to meet ye." Her mother shook Indy's hand. Abegail rolled her eyes. "Ma. Dr. Jone and I worked togehter." Abegail shot Indy a look that dared him to make a joke about how closely or in what way they had worked together. There had been rumours at Marshall that Indy and Abby had enjoyed each other's company. From what Abegail heard now the rumours were that Abby had run off with Walter and that he left her to return to work, that Abegail was taking a break to mend her heart. What the student body didn't know was Abegail hadn't returned to Marshall and her work right away because while Walter and Abegail had been chasing down the Blackstone of Lucifer Walter had been shot because of Abegail. He and Abegail had endured a great deal and Abegail had promised herself that if she lived, she would return home for a visit. Abegail stopped her mother's further harassment of Indy, "Ma a cup of tea for the Dr would be lovely aye? Let us sit and chat?"

Abegail grabbed Indy and led him to a small but cozy sitting room. Abegail plopped onto the nearest chair. "Sorry about that. She is determined to see me married off."
Abegail smiled at Indy. "Now I am glad ye came and iff'n ye can put up with her we will work out of the house here. The soldiers are apparently everywhere. They have been excavating, and posing as historians and the like. Tricking our own inta helpin' them without even realizin'" Abegail's tone was both bitter and angry.

There was knock on the front door. Abegail stood, "Make yerself comfy. Maybe that will be Walter and we can get started on all this. Ma is sure to be cooking up a storm for dinner." Abegail exited the sittingroom. Opening the front door Abegail frowned slightly. "Well, yer definitely not Walter. Are ye a student of Dr. Jones? Did he leave ye to find your own way here? Typical of him. Wouldna have thought he'd have left a pretty little thing like ye to fend for yerself but...come in then."

Abegail turned to lead the pretty dark haired girl into the house just as her mother was coming out of the kitchen with the tea. Abegail's mother smiled large at the girl. "Bridget girl, what brings ye here today?"

Abegail turned, "Not a student then. Apologies, aye? Ma, I'll take that." Abegail took the tray of tea from her mother and moved back into the sitting room. Abegail's mother moved over to Bridget and gave her a quick hug. "Now luv, want some tea?"

"Well, aye", she said as Mrs. McHugh sat her down along with Indie and Abigail without a clue of the important stuff they were talking about."Well Mam ya know how I love diggin in de dirt and the bloody Nazi's keep kicking me off my sites and after the war hapnen in the skies above yer house I thought it might be a good idea to make sure, ye all were alright", she said looking around the room. She nodded to Indie and Abigail, "Beggin me pardon I din't mean ta interrupt ye it's just I saw de plane crash an when I found out whose shed I'd taken cover in I just knocked; lucky there wasn't any soldiers here don know if I could handle another rifle be'n pointed at maface today, bought punched last one square in the face".

She thought Indie was an interesting looking man indeed, "Im afraid I've never met ye daughter Mrs McHugh, My names Bridget O'Maley I was one of ye mams students years ago, I was right pistol wasn't I figure dats why she remembers me so well", she said looking over to Mrs McHugh. "Remember when I laid right hook inta Sean Finnagans face fer callen me ugly, Mrs McHugh, head master tanned me hide good fer dat one", she chuckled bit and sipped the tea. She set down the tea cup back on the tray, "Well I''l let ya bet back to ye company, now that I know the bloody Nazi's avent taken over", she said as she stood to leave.

The journey to Ireland had been a long and difficult one, many plans had to be made on a very short notice with no time to make arrangements, as a result Walter had to simply cancel his classes for an unspecified amount of time. Although there was quite a lot of difficulty in getting the tickets and making the various arrangements for his departure Walter felt obligated to come to Abigail's aid, they had been through a lot together and this was the least he could do. Far too much had happened concerning the specifics of the trip and frankly there was a lot that needed to be done, making any mention of these details a moot point. The unfortunate events that occurred around Abigail's house that day were virtually unnoticeable now, as Walter concentrated on making his way to Abigail's house. It was getting late in the day and so Abigail's mother had the lights on outside, though they did little to illuminate the vast open fields which stretched out all around Abigail's home. Walter had crossed over into the light as he made his way toward the house, the whisper soft sounds which he had heard as he approached began to get louder, until at last he could actually make out individual voices. One of the people inside was apparently about to leave as Walter was about to knock on the door, the echoing of which reverberated throughout the house, as Walter lowered his hand to his side the door was opened from within. The person who had answered the door was unfamiliar to him, although she was certainly a pleasant surprise.

Mrs. McHugh chuckled, Aye ye were a handful of a young one. But much like my Abby so I knew what to do with ye."

Abegail nodded at Bridget, "Nice to meet ye. Nothing wrong with a temper and a desire to fight for your place." Abegail smiled. "No nazi soldiers here. Just us. Thank ye for the concern though." Abegail stood to follow Bridget to the door.

Abegail was just as surprised at Bridget as she opened the door and found Walter standing there. Abegail tilted her head to look at Walter from behind Bridget. "Well, we have a party now don't we. Bridget here has been accosted by nazi's while trying to do her job and came to check on my parents. Seems Indy got himself into a plane crash and Bridget happened to see it. Bein' neighbourly came to check on my parents. Poor girl ended up with just us." Abegail smiled at Walter.

"Bridget O'Maley, this is Dr. Walter Rivers. Walter, Bridget is a former student of me mam's and from what I can figure an archeologist." Abegail looked at Bridget. "Assuming with the diggin' in dirt and mentionin' of sites and such." Abegail kept her smile. "Indy is here, haven't filled him in on anythin' yet. Bridget, what do ye know of the tales of the Tuatha De Danann? The more heads on this I imagine the better and frankly another fiesty woman is what we need to balance out these men." Abegail chuckled.

Stepping back she allowed room for Bridget and Walter to both head into the sitting room again. "Ma, I think we might need a bit more tea. And another bed made up. Dr. Rivers is here now."

Abegail's mother poked her head out of the sittingroom where she had been accosting Indy about his relationship status. "Oh, is he married?"

Abegail shot her mother a look, "Enough of that now. Ye hear? Not another word. We have thin's to discuss." Abegail looked at Walter and Bridget, an aplogetic look on her face. "Sorry, 'bout that. There be no more of that now. More important thin's to worry about aye?"

As Walter moved into the house, Abegail pulled him aside slightly, "Thank ye for comin'. I wasn't sure if ye would, after last time I wasn't sure you'd want to risk gettin' tangled up with this sort of thin' with me. But I am glad ye came, so.." Abegail nodded and let Walter move to greet Indy.

Bridget's eyes lit up when she was asked about the Tuatha De Danann "I think the question Abegail is what don't I know Celtic Mythology is what I specialize in, and whether all those stories we were told as a child have some truth to them", she said with excitement. She pulled out a small well worn leather bound notebook, when she opened it was full of notes and pictures she had drawn concerning artifacts and mythical stories.

Bridget finished reading and smiled at Abegail, "Those four items is what I've been searching fer it's my life's work, but those damn Nazi's keep stopping me and its really startin to grate on me last nerve. I don't know why their after the items but in my opinion anything connected to Hitler is bad news. So far I've only been searching for the item in this area, but they took over my dig site every time, I can't get funding to go anywhere else well cause most museums think I'm a wee bit mad for looking for mythical items", she said with a sigh.

Abegail stood in the hall with Bridget. "Well good, we could use your knowledge then. Three of the four artifacts have already been found I am afraid. An old professor of mine helped the nazi's unknowin'. They are tryin' ta find the last, the sword of Fraegarthach. We be needin' ta find it before they get to it. It's why I called the men. They both specialize in the occult. Me, well, my home aye? The professor sent me a letter tellin' me they needed to be stopped before they found the sword. Iffin' ye'll stay we can fill the men in on what the nazi's have and what we be lookin' for. If yer that good I'd be happy to have ye with us."

Abegail's mother came up behind the women. "Aye, Bridget is good at what she does. Smart whip of a thin' and she'll not let anyone pus her around. If there be a better young one to have with ye on this I don't know any." Mrs McHugh moved into the sitting room where the men with with a fresh tray of tea and some bread and jam.

Abegail smiled at Bridget, "Well then, ye have my endorsement and since I asked them here the men will have to stand by my decision. Shall we?"

Abegail moved back into the sitting room. Taking a seat she waited for the men to finish their greetings before she was ready to lay out the legends for them. Having Bridget here would make it even easier to explain the legends and myths.

Bridget nodded "Aye I'll help ye", she was a little disappointed to hear that the other three artifacts had been found already, "There goes my endorsement", she thought to herself. She followed Abegail back into the sitting room and sat down with the men, she felt a little awkward being the youngest one in the room. She sat down next to Indie and smiled. Both men were a little intimidating years on research and experience under their belts, she had only bee of n out of college for a few years and hadn't really accomplished anything but a reputation as an ambitious, eccentric, hot headed young woman with pipe dreams. She sat and waited for Abegail to inform the men of why she had called them here, and that Bridget was for the most part they're guide.

Abegail picked up her cup of tea and waited. How to explain this to the men. Occult was on thing but we were talking about ancient races, mystical weapons and the like. Walter would understand that things can imbue mankind with power. He and Abegail had seen first hand what objects could do. Abegail felt a slight shiver up her spine as she remembered the voice from the throne. Abegail's mind was again cast back to Niclas, the officer who had shot Walter in the shoulder. She attempted to take comfort in the fact that because she hadn't given in to him easily. She fought him, stood up to him. In the end his officers had taken the stone from her by force but she never gave in. Niclas never got his wish to rule mankind. His own officers, in the end had turned against him calling him traitor. None of those men lived to tell how the stripped and groped Abegail for a stone. How they stopped Niclas mid ritual, called their superior a traitor and doomed themselves to death. They were buried under the rubble of a cavern in France, no more than bones by now. Abegail closed her eyes, willing the thought of that day away.

Abegail sipped her tea. It was still hot. Through the steam she watched Bridget sit next to Indy. Bridget was a pretty girl and both men would likely be smitten. Abegail had a playful smile on her face. "Should be interesting to watch the men fawn over the her." Abegail predicted that the whole thing would amuse her greatly. The older men and the young archeologist wanting to prove herself. Abegail may have been like that at one time, now she didn't believe in such romance. "No, ye've never been the romantic, fawning or mooning sort. Too much of a willful girl, that's what yer ma reminds you often." Still the three of them should make for good fun to watch. Lost in this thought Abegail's smile stayed giving her the appearance that she knew something the rest didn't.

Abegail sat there with the smile and her tea until someone got her attention. Only then did she realize that they had concluded their greetings.

Walter and Indy had completed their greetings, returning his right arm to his side he felt a small tinge of pain in his shoulder, the same shoulder Niclas Elberich had shot him in all those many months ago, the typical rainy weather of Ireland didn't help. Walter stepped aside, a gesture which suggested that he was ready to hear what Abigail had to say, adding only one comment, "Well, I don't know much about fairy swords, but I do know that it is important that we get the final artifact before the Nazis do. I do however seem to remember something within the legends, which indicate that the four items are useless separately, that one must possess all four items to benefit from their power." After Walter had said his piece he put his right hand on the chair near him, leaning against it he listened to Abigail.

Abegail came out of her thoughts as Walter finished talking and sat down. With a look at the three other people in the room, Abegail took another sip of her tea. Resting it on her lap she began to explain what was occurring.

“Now, ye are here because I received a letter. A former professor of mine passed on recently. He was an expert in Ireland’s mythology and history. His classes were always interesting. He is the reason I got into grail mythology and what not. “ Abegail smiled a little, remembering the man fondly.

“Seems before he passed he had been working’with a supposed historian, a foreigner. He helped this man locate three of Ireland’s most legendary mythological weapons. Turns out the man he helped were a SS officer. It wasn’t until they were beginnin’ the search for the fourth weapon that he discovered who the man really was.”
Abegail placed her cup down on the tray. “Three of the weapons are in the hands of the SS. We have to stop them from procurin’ the fourth and final piece.”
Abegail looked at Bridget, “Now, Miss Bridget has been workin’ on locatin’ the weapons herself and the nazi’s are now makin’ their presence openly known. No more hiding behind pretences. Openly threatenin’ dig sites and stoppin’ our own from doin’ their job. No tellin’ iffin’ they have offed anyone yet but wouldna be surprised. They are close to completin’ what they came here for so why pretend any longer. Bridget will fill in anythin’ I might be missin’ but I think you two need a lesson in Ireland’s myths before we embark on this.”

Abegail stood and went to shelf. She pulled down a worn book from one of the shelves. “Ye see, we have what is called the Leabhar Gabhala, the book of invasions. Every family has their own copy. It’s been reprinted, handwritten and passed down in stories for generations. It’s the story of two people who came together to fight for Erin, for the land you are on now. Ireland was home of a race of people called the Fomorians. Not Celts, no they weren’t true celts but they lived here none the less. “
Abegail took the book and sat back down in her chair. “Fomorians were giants, ugly, cruel and oppressive. The Tuatha De Danann are what ye might call faeries. They occupy stories of pagan gods and goddesses. They are ethereal and magical. What ye think of when you think of a fae maiden is what the Danann are. They suffered greatly under the tyranny of the Fomorians. The Danann were scholars, artisans, craftsmen and brave warriors.”

Abegail opened the book, she looked at Indy and then Walter. They seemed to be listening so she continued. “Once the two races talked, a treaty was desired. It was not to be. Fomorians wanted to rule all but the Danann were superior in weaponry and tactics. There was to be no talk. Instead war broke out and thousands of warriors from both sides were lost. The Danann, brought with them to battle, four magical weapons. In the end the Danann won. “
Closing the book, Abegail looked up at the three. “Currently, the SS hold the Stone of Destiny, the Invincible Spear and the Green Armour of Belldor. All they need to complete the set is the Sword of Fraegarthach. Once they have them all, it will be nigh impossible to stop the man wieldin’ them all.”

Abegail sighed, “That is why I asked you here. I canna locate the sword and stop them myself. With the two of I had hoped we could locate it. With Bridget along, givin’ this is what the girl does we have an even better chance. I know ye do occult and mystical and this is just what ye’d call a fairy tale but I assure ye, we believe in this legend and if three of the weapons were found there is a great deal of truth behind it all. The professor was not a man with flights of fancy. Experts dedicate their life to studyin’ the Danann and the legends. It’s a strong part of who we are.” Abegail gave a slight nod to Bridget, knowing that the girl would feel the same way about her heritage and her homeland.

“So, will ye help and do ye have any questions? Once ye agree ta help we can talk about the best place to start lookin’ is. Ma will be wantin’ ye three ta stay for dinner so I hope yer hungry and there is beds here for the two of ye men. Bridget I imagine ye have a place somewhere in town?”

Abegail picked up her tea again and waited for them to digest all she had said and asked. She was going to look for the sword regardless of what the men said and she
hoped that she’d at least have help in Bridget.

Walter had been skeptical in the past when it came to stories and legends concerning things such as fairies and goblins, he always felt as though this belonged in the realm of unicorns and other fanciful imaginings. Recent events however have begun to break down this opinion, particularly when it came to the idea of supernatural entities and beings. His experiences with the occult were perhaps even more first-hand than those of which even Indiana had dealt with, whereas Indiana had at times unwittingly come into contact with the darker side of reality, Walter actively sought out such associations. Walter had been a member of many secret cults and Magical lodges, he also had extensive knowledge and experience in the preparation and execution of ritual magic, but for some reason he could never make the leap to the concept of tiny winged humans fluttering about the countryside. Upon learning about the tales of the Danann and the battle at Magh Tuiredh, it was apparently becoming clear that they were not dealing with outlandish illusions, that these 'fairies' were very different from those found in popular culture, and that these stories had in fact been the source of the misrepresentation and degradation which had forever after reduced the once potent and meaningful folktales into flights of childish fantasy. Walter's familiarity with ritual and ceremonial magic informed him that there was more to acquiring the four legendary items then simply digging them up willy-nilly and making away with them. If Walter had learned anything by his studies, it was that an offering or supplication was usually a prerequisite for the acquisition of a mythical weapon of power. Walter shuddered at the possibility of what might be required of them if they should find the sword. Walter of course confided in the others by explaining the reservations that he had.

Bridget looked at the men, "I can tell ye that we don't want the Nazi's to bet all four items, we're talkin the en of our world as we know it a world with Hitler literally in control of everything. He'd have a power of imaginable heights, and would be pretty much invisible. ((sorry so short Doc put me on a new med and I am totally out of it right now.))

Walter was the first to respond, "Well Abby I'm with you, regardless of my own doubts about the legitimacy of the legends." Indiana gave one of his classic devilish smirks as he also agreed that there was merit in discovering the item first, besides as he has said before -"Nazis! I hate those guys" With everyone agreed and on the same proverbial page, it would soon be time to move on and depart on a new quest, hopefully one not as difficult and life-threatening as the last one that Water and Abagail were on.

Mrs McHugh called everyone into the kitchen where she had set out a large feast. Everyone tucked into the food, the conversation turning to lighter things. There was inquiries as to Abegail's activity since she leave from the university. Her mother piped up about how she'd been working on more domestic activites to which Abegail made a face and which Indy found funny. The dinner finished the men were ushered away to be shownt o their rooms and the location of the facilities in the McHugh's home. Abegail showed Bridget out, thanking her for staying on to help.

Turning in for the evening the McHugh house become dark and still. In her room Abegail tossed and turned. She hadn't slept well since she and Walter had been in Spain. Nightmares plagued her, visions of Niclas' face and the blackstone flooded in when she would have rather been sleeping. Recently it had begun to get slightly better. Now, with this new mystery in front of her Abegail found herself worrying again about the nazi's. For the first time in months Abegail worried that she might run into Niclas again. Her only hope was that he had not made it out of France. The sinking feeling in her stomach told her that he was too crafty to have not gotten out.

Sleep eluded Abegail. Before the sun was rising she snuck out of the McHugh household and headed into the heart of the town. From there she caught the early morning train into Dublin. Abegail, in the early morning light arrived at the home of her old professor. With a breath in she knocked on the door. It was a long time before the little woman opened the door. His widow was small, slightly frail and obviously had still been sleeping. Abegail introduced herself. The woman knew who Abegail was, she recognized the name even though they had never met. Allowing Abegail in the lady closed the door. Four hours later Abegail exited the home again, this time her arms laiden with books, notes and other articles from the professor's study.

Abegail waited at the station. As she sat, the large pile of things in her lap the familiar sensation began to run up her back. She was being watched. Abegail would have bet moeny on it. Standing, Abegail held the pile tightly to her. There was no way anyone was taking them from her. Cursing herself for not bringing her briefcase, Abegail began to pace. The train arrived fifteen minutes later. Abegail boarded and found a seat near an exit. She sat on the aisle seat and watched the few passengers board the train. The feeling was still there. "Maybe it's just nerves, seeing shadows and the like..." Abegail tried hard to bolster herself. The last time she had this feeling there had been bullets and the nazi's attempting to corner Walter and her.

The train pulled in to the smaller station and Abegail disembarked. Pausing on the platform she wished she had told someone where so was going. The walk back to the house was tiring with the pile weighing her down as she moved. It was almost noon by the time Abegail opened the door to the McHugh house.

"Where have ye been! We've been goin' out of ours minds! Ye didna have the decency ta leave a note! What were ye thinkin' Abegail Charlotte!" Her mother's anger was more worry than anything. Abegail stood wide-eyed in the doorway. Indiana and Walter came out of the kitchen behind her mother. Abegail frowned, "I am no a wee babe in need of babysittin'. I can handle it fine There is work ta be done so I started it. Donna scold me for doin' my job." Abegail's voice was angry, far more angry than her mother was. "Now if ye'll let me in the door, this pile is na light aye?" Pushing in the door Abegail headed into the sitting room. Once there she deposited the pile down.

"Now I got all the professor's notes that the nazi's didna already take. I have everything I could find from his study about the weapons, the Danann and the Fomorian's. There is a problem. I have the feelin' I was followed. No one has made an appearance as yet but in canna be long before they do." Abegail looked at the men, her hands on her hips.

Bridget really hadn't nowhere to go so she found a good piece of land to set up camp, she didn't like going home cause her mother would always try to get her to stay home and stop traveling and stay home. So as she slept in her tent she tossed and turned as the thoughts of an adventure, and handsome men floated through her dreams.

As the morning rays began to saturate the tent she moaned not wanting to wake up but found herself waking up despite the fact. She came out of the tent and made a little camp fire and set to making herself some stiff black coffee to wake herself up. After her meager breakfast of biscuits and bad coffee she made her way back to the McHughs. Whistleing down the road a thought crossed her mind of something her father had told her when she was little and would be whistleing down the road much like she was right now "Whistling girls and crowing hens Always come to some bad ends", she laughed it was funny what you remembered from your childhood at the oddest moments. She made her way up to the door and knocked.

Mrs McHugh answered the door at Bridget's knock "Abegail why in heaven's name are ye knockin' and where have ye..." Seh stopped short at seeing Bridget. "Oh, come in. The men are in the kitchen have a bite. We canna find Abegail." Mrs McHugh led Bridget into the kitchen. Both of the men were sitting at the table with plates of food in front of them. They seemed to be in quiet discussion about something.

Indy looked up and smiled at Bridget, "Morning." He gave her a nod. Mrs McHugh placed a plate on the table for Bridget and a cup full of strong coffee.

Hours went by and Mrs McHugh cooked and fretted about the kitchen all the while mumbling ot herself about wild children and girls with more will then brains.

At noon the door opened and from the kitchen the group could hear Mrs McHugh yelling at Abegail and Abegail's voice in return. As the men moved out of the kitchen Abegail could see Bridget behind them. "Oh good yer here already. You can give me a hand with some of these notes. He has locations noted. Places they went and looked for the weapons. We need to piece together where they went and what they found where along with what sites they hadna gone ta yet. Ye'll be able ta tell me where ye've been lookin' see if we can make head's or tails of it all. I wouldna know some of these places. Been away too long."

To Abegail's right her mother scowled, "If ye had any brains in yer head you'd leave it all alone, settle down with a man and stay here permanently." With that Mrs McHugh huffed off to leave the scholars to go through the books and notes.

Abegail sat on the floor and started sorting books. "Here, this is log from a dig. See what ye can find in his notes. We need a place to start." She handed another book to Indy and a third to Walter, "They have some details about each of the races. Again, we need to know what we are dealin' with. We canna just go dig for the sword and expect it will just be found and will do what we want." Abegail began pouring over a book. Her stomach rumbled but she ignored it.

A few minutes later, Mrs McHugh brough her daughter a cup of coffee. The woman was calmer now and placing the cup down she reached over and patted her daughter's cheek lovingly before she headed back into the kitchen.

Knowing his field of expertise Abigail had handed Walter a book which dealt with the specialized topic 'Fairy Glamour,' or fairy magic. Abagail had set the book upon the table directly in front of Walter title side up, gazing down at the tome he read its title aloud, "Fairy Magick. Myths and Spells, by Ludwig and Glastonbury 1589." If it had not been for the seriousness of the situation before them Walter would have lavished great attention on this tome and had read it attentively for countless hours, to say that this book is a priceless and rare find would be a gross understatement of its importance in the field of ritual magic practices. There was obviously no time to that, and so after Walter was presented with the book he knew exactly what he was being asked to do, for just as he and Bridget had pointed out, retrieving the sword would require some additional measures. Namely a spell or ritual would most likely have to be performed, either to release or to empower the item in question.

_________________________________

Abigail's suspicions were about to be affirmed as several dark figures emerged from the shadows of a nearby outcropping of trees. The four as of yet unidentified men had purposely positioned themselves far enough away from the small dwelling as to not be noticed by anyone that might walk out the front door. Slowly and methodically the four figures walked toward the McHugh residents. Covert due to the reach of the topmost branches of the band of trees and the ever-increasing shadows that were generated from these hangings, the silhouetted figures marched on.

_________________________________

The somewhat amusing fact that all four scholars had simultaneously discovered what they were looking for within the books that they were handed was suddenly obliterated by the barrage of bullets that were now penetrating the walls of the small home. Instinctively they all grabbed and clutched at their books to keep them from being damaged by the obscene onslaught.

Abegail was immersed in her book. Cross referencing what she read with notes the professor had made in one of his notebooks she didn't even really register the rest were still in the room.

Abegail was about to point out a fact about the spear, an important note about the ritual used to locate it when the first bullet smashed the window pane in the front hall. Abegail jumped. "Git down!" She yelled and began scooping up the books around her. "No wait! Ma!" Abegail went to stand as more bullets began to rip into the home. There were noises all around them. Indy grabbed Abegail and pulled her back low to the floor. "Head down now." Abegail began to protest, "Donna tell me what to do!" She tried to crawl away towards the kitchen. There was firm grasp on her ankle. "Don't argue." With that Indy pulled Abegail back towards him. Keeping her head covered he looked to Walter and Bridget.

Grabbing what books they could the group began a low crawl into the front hall. Again, Abegail tried to pull herself away to head to the kitchen but Indy kept a firm hold her her. From the front hall the group could see Mrs McHugh huddled down against her lower cupboards. Abegail suppressed a cry as she saw a dark figure move past the kitchen window. The handle of the back door began to shake. Being locked the person began to push on it. Mrs McHugh grabbed a pan from the counter and prepared to defend herself. Indy grabbed Abegail's waist firmly and pulled her away from the kitchen. Abegail tried to fight him off but she was also trying to hold the books. Indy indicated to Walter to grab Bridget and open the front door. They'd make a break for it, hoping they either had to reload or whoever was out there had moved to the back of the house.

Indy silently counted to three and on three Walter opened the door. Walter and Bridget made their way out the door first. Indy, dragging a fighting Abegail followed. Outside, Abegail was fighting in Indy's grasp like a wild cat. Indy pointed a group of trees out to Walter. Scooping Abegail up and over his shoulder rather unceremoniously he followed them towards the trees. The group crouched in the brush. Walter and Bridget could see the figures moving on the outside of the house. Two, from what they could see now they were clearly SS officers, headed to the open front door. There was discussion between them but they were too far off to hear what was being said. Walter and Bridget watched them talking. A third figure came from the back of the house. His face was bloody and he was holding his nose. Mrs McHugh had clearly put up a fight.

As they watched the house, behind them Indy was in a struggle with Abegail. She attempted to claw and fight her way from him, intent on returning to the house. "I don't make it a habit of hitting women but Abby I will hit you if you don't stop fighting me. We can't go back." Indy's voice was quiet but firm as he tried to get Abegail under control. Abegail pounded his chest with a fist, "They must have followed me, I canna just sit here..." Her voice became choked off as she stifled a sob. She had put her mother in danger. Brought them to her door.

Walter and Bridget watched to see what the next move of the officers was going to be so that the quartet of scholars could also make their next move.

The four scholars watch as the soldiers regrouped at the front of the house, from their vantage point they could not tell what the men looked like, one of the soldiers was standing near the left corner of the house. The others were directly in front of the door, the man in the middle of the two was clearly the leader as he gestured with his hand that his subordinates should check the interior of the structure again. Though this man could not see where Walter and the others were hiding he seemed to be looking directly at them. After a few moments the man made his identity known when he called for the Abigail and her cohorts to present themselves, "Kommen Sie. Abigail McHugh, ich weiß, du bist hier." Looking to his left, "Doktor Miller, you too. Show yourselves." Came a second command from Niclas Elderich. They obviously had no plans to turn themselves into living targets and so they remain in their positions and waited for the right time to make their move. Knowing that they would not give up their hiding spots Niclas forged a plan of making it appear as though he was going to check the inside of the house for them, Walter and the others fell for Niclas' trickery and finally made their move. Walter had informed them that he had parked a vehicle nearby, having become extremely cautious due to past experiences. "It will be a tight fit, but its better then nothing at this point. Follow me." Walter and Bridget ran as one with their hands clasped and made their way to the back of the wooded area where Walter's jeep was parked. Indiana and Abigail got up to follow them.

Abegail was still half heartedly fight Indy's grip on her arms and fighting the urge to cry. Then she heard a noise that made her stop.

"Kommen Sie. Abigail McHugh, ich weiß, du bist hier."

Indy looked from Abegail to Walter. He looked at him questioningly. In his hands, Abegail was shaking. Abegail looked at Walter and the fear was clear in her eyes. "No." It was all she managed to say. Abegail was not a weak woman but the sound of Niclas' voice made her knees shake. Indy's grip tightened on her arms, not to restrain her but to help hold her up.

Indy looked to Walter. Obviously, both he and Abegail had run into this man before. Indy was willing to let Walter take the lead.

Abegail stared past Indy and across the field. It almost felt like Niclas was looking right at her. Abegail's anger started to rise. "That man is a menace. I canna let him just invade my home like that." Her voice a harsh angry whisper. Now, she fought Indy's grip so she could go at the German man. Indy almost lost his grip with her sudden shift of energy. "Decide what we are doing quick man. I don't know how long I can keep her steady here." Indy whispered harshly.

As Walter led Bridget to the jeep, Indy followed dragging a rather pissed off Abegail behind him. They climbed into Walter's jeep. Indy plopped Abegail on his lap.

"How dare ye!" Abegail snipped at him. Indy smirk one of his trademark smirks. "If you don't stop I'll kiss you to shut you up." Abegail scowled, "Ye would na dare."

Indy chuckled, "Try me." Abegail sat on Indy's lap in the cramped jeep as Walter drove off. She still had the scowl on her face, unsure if she should protest more or not.

As Walter and he others made their way to the jeep they could hear Niclas, who had not ascertained that the four scholars were making a break for it, shouting out in all directions "Do not worry Fraulein McHugh we will not harm you mother....if she tells us what we need to know." As they drove off Walter asked Indy if he had his gun, which of course Indiana did, he then pulled out his own weapon, turned to the backseat and handed it to Abagail, "We are going back!' he said as he turned to her. "Indiana if you would be so kind as to jump on the back bumper, perhaps you could tackle an SS officer or two." As Walter described his plan to the others a small airplane zoomed overhead, it was heading for the house to land. It was fortunate for them as they needed some kind of cover if they were going attempt a rescue. "Bridget, you will do the driving." Walter instructed the young lady sitting in the passenger seat beside him. Everyone hoped that Walter knew what he was doing. Indiana smiled, being a man of action, he instinctively knew what Walter had in mind.

Niclas comment on her mother made Abegail livid. "Let me go now. I will na let him hurt her." She stuggled in Indy's arms again. Walter asked if he had his gun and Indy nodded to Walter.

Abegail was shocked as Walter handed her the gun. Taking it she stopped fighting Indy. "We are going back!' Abegail would have hugged Walter if he hadn't been driving. The relief showed clearly on her face. Indy released his grip on the woman and Abegail manouvred onto the cramped seat beside him. It wouldn't be cramped for long and Indiana prepared to prop himself onto the back bumper.

Abegail, holding the gun in front of her looked at Walter, "Be careful." Then looking at Indy, "Both of ye, no dying because of this ye hear?"

With that Abegail gave Bridget a quick smile. The poor girl had no idea what she was in for. Abegail braced herself on the seat, gun in hand and prepared for the fight that was to come. The plane going overhead, aimed at her home worried her. There was no telling who was in the aircraft. "No rest for the wicked."

The jeep drove toward the house, Walter and Bridget had already switched places as she was now in the drivers seat. Indiana was in position with his feet steadied on the bumper of the jeep, sitting on the back facing out. Walter was standing up in the vehicle as he held onto the frame of the open-top jeep. Abagail was in the backseat still holding onto Walter's gun, poised to hand the weapon to him when the right time came. They could only hope that Abagail's mother would hear the jeep approaching and that Niclas would be caught off guard by what they hoped would be a surprise attack. The jeep had just come off the lush grass plain and began to kick up dust as it reached the dirt road which lead up to the McHugh residence. Walter's plan had failed, Niclas was wise to their actions and had sent two of his junior officers outside to greet the four beginning hero's. The jeep nearly tipped over on its side when Bridget made too sharp of a turn, luckily Indiana was able to jump from the back of the jeep just as the two soldiers exited the back door of the house. Just as Walter had envisioned Indy leaped from the jeep and came crashing into the SS officers, successfully disabling them.

Abegail held on tightly to both the gun and the jeep. She waited patiently for Water's signal to give him the gun. Abegail was tempted to wait till they were closer and to shoot Niclas herself. She had never really shot a gun nor would her aim be very good from the moving jeep. Instead she put her effort into watching for her mother and listening for Walter's signal.

The jeep turned sharply and she had to hold on even tighter to keep herself from being thrown out of the side of the jeep. Abegail watched Indy leap off the back of the jeep, He took two officers down with him. The three bodies fell to the ground. Indy propped himself and punched the first man hard in the jaw. The second tried to move out from under Indy but Indy grabbed him by the sides of his face and smacked his head off the ground.

Abegail looked at Walter. "What now?" Abegail was worried. The jeep slowed a bit and Niclas and the other officer began to advance on the vehicle.

Walter yelled at Bridget to speed up and to drive around the house so that they might catch Niclas and the other officer by surprise. As soon as the jeep sped around the left side of the small structure Niclas instructed the other officer to position himself on the left side and to catch them as they came around again. In truth Niclas had knowingly sent the officer to his death, hoping that he could use the young solder as a decoy in order to get off a few good shots. Niclas' plan had worked just as he hoped, when the jeep came back around the young officer attempted to grab Walter from the jeep, while this was going on Niclas was positioning himself for the kill. What Niclas did not know was that when the jeep turned the corner a few moments before it had slowed enough to let Abigail out, before speeding up again to make the turn from the left. Just as Niclas had aligned his shot Abagail was steadily approaching her adversary. Niclas visions was clear and sharp as he aimed for the back of Walter's head, slowly he began to pull the trigger back. His shot was not-to-be for Abagail had managed to sneak up to Niclas from behind, placing the muzzle against the back of his head.

Abegail jumped out of the jeep. Sneaking up behind Niclas she placed the muzzle of the gun to the back of his head. "Give me a reason. If ye move I will pull the trigger. Place yer gun down." Abegail prayed under her breath that he could not feel her hand shaking as she held the gun to his head. "Ye'll not be talkin' to anyone. Just put it down."

Niclas didn't put the gun down, instead he turned slowly to face Abegail. "Fraulien, it is one thing to shoot a man in the back of ze head. It is another to do it to his face. Can you do that?"

Abegail stepped back. The look in his eyes made her knees shake slightly in fear. "Yer not ta move. I will pull the trigger." Her mind was screaming at her, "Where are they? Did they get ma yet? Are they just going to leave me? Shoot him!"

Abegail swallowed and Niclas took a step towards her. He stared at her as if his eyes could look right through her. Abegail narrowed her eyes. "Yer a pain in my side from the moment I met ye. I'll not let ye make me afraid." He took another step towards her. Abegail raised the gun as if she was going to shoot it but at the last minute lowered it to punch Niclas.

In their last meeting, Abegail had been able to hit him and run away but this time Niclas saw it coming. He grabbed Abegail's wrist as she swung her fist. Niclas pulled Abegail towards him, twisting her arm as he did so. Abegail found her back up against the German man. Her arm was twisted behind her and was beginning to hurt. Niclas spun Abegail around so she faced the jeep and the her companions. "Herr Doktors. I suggest you stop this fighting this instant or your little friend will pay for your disobedience." To emphasize his point he wrenched Abegail's arm up until she gave an audible yelp.

Abegail fought the pain in her arm. He hadn't bothered to remove the gun from her other hand. Her face scrunched in pain she looked down, aimed the gun towards Niclas' foot, closed her eyes and pulled the trigger.

Abigail and closed her eyes before firing a pistol which resulted in the bullet missing its target, penetrating the ground instead, kicking up a small portion of the earth. The near miss did however succeeded in distracting Niclas for a moment so that Indiana could come up from behind and wrench Abigail from his grasp. Once freed Abigail returned to the Jeep to join Walter and Bridget who had also succeeded in fending off their opponents. Before Niclas had a chance to respond to this latest twist in the day's events Indiana forced him up against the side of the house. As Indiana detained Niclas the others went into the home and grabbed Abigail's mom and led her back to the Jeep. Indiana yelled for everyone to get inside the Jeep, with the gun still jammed in his side Indiana stepped away from Niclas. As Indiana climbed back into the Jeep with the others the tremendously angered Niclas Elderich turned around to curse them. He immediately looked around for something that he might use to exact his revenge, finding nothing Niclas called to his men for their assistance, but none came. "Sorry, Niclas." Walter said sarcasticly before driving off. Within a matter of a few hours they had traveled across the countryside, eventually stopping several townships over from where Abigail's mother's house was. This is where they would drop Abigial's mom off as the four adventurous scholars started their journey to find the last of the magical items.

Abegail felt Niclas' grip loosen as the gun went off but no grunt of pain and she knew she had missed. Opening her eyes she saw the dirt settling. Abegail felt herself beign pulled away from Niclas and she was ready to strike the person who grabbed her. She assumed an officer had grabbed her from Niclas. Abegail was very wrong. She raised her hand and found herself in Indy's arms. He pushed her towards the jeep and Abegail ran quickly to it. Abegail watched Indy hold Niclas off with his gun. Beside her Walter gestrued to the door and he and Abegail ran in to get her mother. Bridget waited with the jeep running. The three returned to the jeep, Indy yelled for them to get in. Walter climbed into the passenger seat. Mrs. McHugh climbed in the back. Abegail climbed in and stood waiting for Indy.

Indy came to the jeep. He kept his gun on Niclas and Abegail reached to help him climb in. Once in the three were very squished in the backseat. Niclas' anger was written all over his face. He called for his men and to Abegail's relief none came to his aid. Abegail heard Walter speak to Niclas and the jeep drove off. Abegail's mother grabbed her and hugged her tightly. She was talking quickly, Abegail couldn't make out what she was saying. "It's alright now ma. We'll take ye some place safe. Da and the boys can come get you later." Her mother held Abegail's hand tightly for the rest of the ride.

When they arrived in the smaller town a few hours later Mrs McHugh got out of the jeep. She grabbed Bridget, "Ye be careful." She hugged her tightly. Mrs McHugh grabbed Indy's hand. "Ye take care of yerself. Don't let anyone stop ye." She patted his hand. Moving to Walter, Mrs McHugh patted his cheek, "Thanks to ye for comin' back. Mind would have prefered if you hadna left me in the first place." Mrs McHugh chuckled. She looked at both men, "Ye two men, take care of my girls now. Girls, make sure the boys donna do anything stupid, aye?"

With that Mrs McHugh grabbed Abegail and hugged her hard. The two women whispered and Mrs McHugh turned and headed in to the pub. She'd call her husband and her sons and they would take care of picking her up. They'd also deal with whatever might await them at home. Abegail hated the idea of leaving her and her family to take care of the mess but there was so much to do. Abegail quietly climbed into the jeep with the rest and they set off again.

Abegail looked at Walter, "Thank ye for goin' back and to ye Bridget for drivin' so well." Turning to Indy, "Thank ye from savin' me from him." Abegail sat in silence for the rest of the drive. Lost in her thoughts the guilt of brining the nazi's to her family's door and putting the rest in danger was causing a knot in her stomach.

There wasn't much to say on the journey across the countryside, everyone was pretty much just trying to catch their breath. Walter could not tell what Indy or Bridget had on their minds, but he could pretty much guess what some of Abigail's thoughts were, having shared a previous adventure together. Though they had both know Indiana for quit a long time, even he could not appreciate the level of relationship that Walter and Abigail had generate in the past few months. They were once again beset with a mixture of varying feelings and concerns, and yet in the back of their minds they perhaps secretly relished their journey, even though their very lives were constantly in danger of being stamped out. Walter and Indy were in a way, along for the ride, as Abigail and Bridget had the expertise which would lead, or direct the adventure that they were now on. "So, whats the plan now?" Walter asked as he turn toward the backseat.

Abegail looked out the side of the jeep. "We are close to Tullamore. We should find a hotel for the night. Bridget and I need to go over a few of the notes. The professor references a few sites that he was narrowin' down. He has three places that he speculated the sword could be. I think Bridget's expertise would help in this. If we get two rooms Bridget and I can go over the notes and maps and plot our next route." Abegail looked at Walter and gave him a small smile. She was trying to push past the feeling of worry to the feeling of excitement at the new mystery. "Assuming you men don't mind bunkin' down in a room together."

Bridget pulled the jeep into the city of Tullamore. Finding a small, out of the way hotel Abegail headed in. She was able to negotiate two rooms with two beds in each. Abegail also arranged it with the front desk, by way of money slipped his way, that their arrival and room numbers stay hush hush. Abegail was beginning to become paranoid about when Niclas could show up again.

Once at the door to the rooms Abegail paused to give Walter a brief pat on the arm, "Thank ye again. Truly for goin' back." Abegail patted Indy's cheek, "And ye for riskin' yer neck for me." Abegail found herself oddly uncomfortable around both men. Slipping into her room with a smile she left Bridget to flirt with the men before she joined Abegail.

Abegail quickly washed her face and then turned to the pile of books they had managed to save. There was heaviness in Abegail's chest as she realized that she hadn't had time to pack her briefcase. That thing had been everywhere with her. Even in the last excursion she and Walter had it had been along and even saved her skin a time or two. Pushing the feeling aside Abegail began spreading the books out. Flipping through she found the pages that referred to locations the professor had theorized as the home of the sword. She sat waiting for Bridget's arrival back in the room.

Niclas watched the jeep drive off. He longed to hit something. He walked past the house, not giving the bodies of the fallen soldiers a second look. He headed to where the plane had touched down. Climbing aboard he began to bark orders for take off. He was seething. That woman and the american were becoming a greater nuisance. Dr McHugh had the notes he needed and she was one of the few who'd be able to figure out the last part. Dr Rivers was always there to help her. The two together were like a splinter in his foot that he couldn't quite get rid of. They had unwittingly given him some leverage though. Dr Jones he knew from reputation and very brief run in a great deal of time ago. The young woman, he had a file on her but she originally was just an annoying archeologist who stuck her nose in their dig sites. Niclas smiled an eerie grin. If Dr McHugh wouldn't do as he wanted and help him find the sword then he'd just have to make sure the other three made the point for him. He'd take great pleasure in torturing them in front of the pain in ass red head. He'd start with the girl, then Dr Jones and ending with Dr Rivers, drawing his torture out for as long as humanly possible. The man was a pest in his own right.

Niclas reasoned it shouldn't be too hard to find them. Four travellers, with their descriptions would not go unnoticed for long. He'd start sending soldiers out in various directions from the McHugh home. It was getting to be late and they'd have to find shelter somewhere.

Walter and Indiana smile slightly over Abigail's humorous comment and then entered the room that they were sharing. Neither man was exactly in their prime and so the only thing that they wanted was a little rest, punching out Nazi's is taxing work. Walter and Indy left the burden of research and planning to the two woman, after all they were the experts on this particular journey, it was kind of nice for a change, they had to admit. Walter was fast to sleep and when he finally woke up several hours later he noticed that Indiana had left the Inn. Indy was far more capable of taking care of himself then Walter was and so he didn't think to worry about what had happened to his colleague. After pulling the bedding from under him and covering himself with the warm, thick blanket Walter fell back to sleep.

After a few hours Indiana would return to the Inn and to his bed, non of the others would know of his late night excursion to the seedier corners of the small town.

Abegail waited for Bridget. When the younger woman came into the room Abby let her settle in before the two poured over the books. The two spent hours going over notes, descriptions and ideas. Soon the women were so tired that everything they read began to blend together. Abegail pushed aside the books. "That's it for now. I canna look at that any more. Sleep and we can look at it again in the morn." With that, Abegail settled into her bed. She tried to sleep but found herself tossing and turning. Abegail was worried about her family, if they men got her mother and if the house was okay. She had left them with much to worry about.

The next morning, when Bridget awoke Abegail was sitting on her bed reading again. "I think I have narrowed it down to two places. The Hill of Uisneach, the geographic centre or Ireland or the Hill of Tara. Tara is where the kings were said to be crowned but more importantly there seems to be a fae hill and entrance near by. Or at least suspected. The professor makes mention of the greeter and the keeper for the sword. They are na far apart so I canna see why we should na try for both." Abegail closed the book. "Let's get some food and then wake the men."

Abby brushed her hair with her fingers as best she could and the women headed down to the small restaurant for some strong coffee and food. Sitting at the table the two made idle chat about Ireland and the things that had changed while Abegail was working in America.

By the time Walter had woken up Indiana was already gone, although this time he left a message behind, telling Walter that he went to procure a suitable vehicle for the journey. Abigail and Bridget knew nothing of Indiana's late night excursion and Walter decided to keep it to himself, something to save for his memoirs. Abigail and Bridget were understandably surprised when Walter walked into the dinning room by himself and take a seat at their table, the only thing that Walter mentioned was the note that Indiana had left behind. "Indy went to find us a proper transport, its a long journey across the rough terrain of the Irish countryside." Picking up the cup of coffee which had been set out for him Walter continued, "So, Abs! Whats the plan?" Walter smiled. 'Ive gone over some of those books and I also think that the Hill of Tara is the best place to start. Although I doubt the Nazi had a chance to dig up that monolithic stone. So we can expect some interference."

Abegail, was shocked at first when Walter sat down. He explained that Indy had gone to procur a new vehicle for them. Abegail relaxed and poured Walter a cup of coffee. He picked it up and before taking a drink, "So, Abs! Whats the plan?" Abegail looked at Walter, the shock was clear on her face. First it was a nickname she hated and secondly he was in a particular mood if he was referring to her in such an informal manner.

Frowning at him, much to Bridget enjoyment, Abegail continued, "Aye the hill of Tara is a good spot to start. We will have to be alert. While there will be tourists around it will na stop them from coming after us. We will be needing to go off the hill, away from the crowds to find the entrance and other marks the professor referred to in his notes." Taking a sip of her coffee she paused. "Walter are you feelin' alright? Ye seem...chipper this mornin' and Abs?" Abegail eyed Walter, a smile tesing the corners of her mouth. "Can I start callin' ye Wally then? Is that how this will work now? I have taken down other men yer size for callin' me that." Somehow it didn't seem to bother her as much coming from Walter.

"I'll finish my coffee then grab the books and we can meet Indy out front."

Walter barley had enough time to finish his coffee or to answer Abigail when Indy came screeching up to the front of the small hotel, he apparently had to do some rather questionable bargaining in order to get the vehicle that he was now driving. Coming to a dead stop Indy called for the others to hightail it out of the hotel and get into the car, with his trademark sly smirk he called out, "We need to leave." Looking in back of him and seeing that he was being followed he continued, "Like right now!" No rest for the wicket was the first thought that flashed through Walter's mind, once again Walter and Abigail found themselves having to rush off without adequate preparation, leaving all their important papers behind. Dropping his cup of coffee to the floor Walter immediately and without thinking got up from his seat and took Abigail by the hand, with Bridget following the three of them ran toward the front door. Walter released Abigail's hand as he forced the door open and then stepping aside so that Abigail and Bridget could run for the car. Bridget got into the passenger side of the vehicle, while Walter and Abigail got in the back seat. An angry mob of low life's and assorted criminals who didn't approve of being swindle by a slick American out of one of their vehicles were on Indy's trail. The instant others had entered the car Indy sped off, leaving the encroaching mob far behind.

Abegail heard Indy. "I will go get my stuff..." Indy's yell made it clear that grabbing the books was not to be. Walter grabbed Abegail's hand and made for the door. Abby followed but turned as she ran to look over her shoulder, "But the books...the notes..." Walter held the door, Abegail and Bridget headed out. Walter was right ontheir heels. Abegail climbed in the back, Bridget in the passenger side and Walter followed Abegail.

"Indiana, what the bloody hell do ye think yer doin'? Do ye realize that I have had to leave everythin' behind? Do ye?" Abegail was angry. Getting those books and notes had been work in itself and then the nazi's shot up her parents home because of it. Now all that gone because Indy had made a bad deal. Abegail slumped a bit and rubbed her face. "Bridget will lead you there. We need to get to the hill of Tara." Without the notes Abby wasn't sure if she'd know what to do when they got there. She could have kicked herself for not getting her briefcase when they left originally and for not bringing everything down to breakfast with her. If this went bad it would be her fault. What if the key was in those notes and she couldn't remember?

Abegail leaned on the door and stared out the window as the Irish countryside passed her by. Her thoughts revolving around all she could remember around the lore of the hill of Tara.

Indiana had been to Ireland many times before and knew his way to nearly every site of archaeological importance, though less familiar with fairies and such, he still knew the quickest way to the mid-region where lay the Hill of Tara. They all had expected the area to be overrun with tourists but the closer they came to the location the began to realize that the entire region was totally devoid of people, vacationers or even locals for that matter. Walter's suspicion that the Nazi could not have removed the stone of destiny so quickly was confirmed. Rather then relocating the stone the Nazi's had set up a large tent, with the stone safely inside and two guards standing just outside. The other soldiers had already been given orders to return to Pfizer castle, which the Nazi's had set up as a temporary command center. Indian a stopped the vehicle a safe distance from the camp, as the four scholars thought over their options.

Abegail stepped out of the car and leaned against the side. "Alright, we need ta get in there. We need a decoy to draw them out, aye? Do ye think he is in there, Niclas?" Abegail looked at Walter. "Without an expert to tell them what ta do they will na be able to get the sword." Abegail shrugged. "What if I go and draw him out front to talk to me? It's a large place. Bridget can help ye find a back way in. If they are distracted then less for ye to deal with."

The idea of facing Niclas or any soldier for that matter made Abegail's stomach knot but it was worth it if it meant the rest of the scholars got to the sword before the nazi's managed to get it. With a chuckle Abegail looked at the other three, "If ye have a better idea I'm all ears, aye?" She looked at Bridget, "Know a way to call the fair fold in to get rid of the intruders?" Abegail was only half joking. As she looked at the young woman Abegail's mind was going through all the legends and stories she had ever been told as a child about calling up the wrath of the fairies.

Bridget, arms resting on the hood of the car frowned. "Hmm." The young woman began to think as well. "Are they a superstitious lot? What if we just make'em think the fae are angry? You know some smoke and mirrors?"

They had been parked behind a hugh bolder which sat a hundred yards from the left side of the tent, Walter and the girls were standing near the vehicle. Walter stood beside the car and listened to Abihgial and Bridgets musings, though he didnt think it was good enough of a plan, perhaps a little too dangerous for the girls. As he also bagan to rack his brians for a solution Indiana, who had remained oin the droivers seat of the vehicle, gave a warning to the others. "Get your hands off the car!" he yelled. Walter and the others were cought off gaurd by the uncharacteristic outburst, taking thier hands from the vehicle they all took a step back as Indy stomped on the ecellerator and took off like a shot toward the big gray tyent. The wheels of gthe vehilce kicked up a tremendous cloud of dust as it drove away, leaving Walter and the others in a haze of dirt and debries. Indy didnt know if the car would hit the stone in the ground and so he bailed out at the last second, the guards on the other hand didnt even see the car approaching, all they heard was the sound of the on-coming vehicle. Indy had jumped off the vehicle while it was still fairly far from crashing into the tent and so the two guards didnt see who the driver was. Indy was no strangrer to jumping from movceing vehicles and so he knew what he was doing, he knew to roll with the fall, which is exactly what he did, though this time he found hikmslef rolling into a small depression in the ground. The car on the othger hand didnt pfiar as well, its misssion however was successful as it crashed through the tent. It was the perfect distraction for the others to make thier move, it had plowed its way between the stone of destiny and the two soldiers, taking one of them out with its fender.

Abegail flinched when Indy yelled. Bridget backed away slowly, a look of extreme confusion on her face. Abegail frowned, stepping away from the vehicle "What are ye yellin' at u..." She never finished the question. Indy jumped in and accelorated the car at the tent. They were now covered in dirt. Abegail wiped her face and brushed off her clothes. Bridget looked at Walter and Abby, "Is he mad?" Abegail watched Indy jump out, "Aye, mad and crazy, yet the man has managed to stay alive."

As the car hit, Abegail moved around the boulder. Bridget moved with her and Walter followed close behind. As the commotion kicked up over the crashed car the trio met up with Indy. As they moved in to get closer, Abegail grabbed Indy's arm, whispering harshly to him, "Next time let's talk that sort of thing out first aye? We have no way to get away now."

Quietly the group slipped in for a closer look at what the nazi's had in the tent. Abegail looked around and prayed to whatever saint might still listen to her that Niclas was no where near by.

Bridget stayed close to Walter. She was a little overwhelmed. Not a coward by any means, Bridget was not used to sneaky around like this. Abegail could sympathize with the look on the girl's face. It wasn't so long ago that Abegail was in the same spot.

Quietly, Abegail came to a doorway and holding her breath, peeked through.

Indiana's overly heroic actions aside, they four scholars now have the stone of destiny in their possession. Walter was a bit perplex that the Nazi's had not removed the stone, as this was what his contacts had lead him to believe. The inaction of the Nazi's seemed out of character for them, at least until Abigail pulled back the door flap and gazed into the tent. At that moment Abigail and the others learned the horrible fate of the stone of destiny, the Nazi's did leave the stone behind, but only fragments. Upon seeing this despicable and disrespectful display of vandalism the hearts of the four scholars sank, it was once thing to dig up the stone and cart it off somewhere, but to treat this sacred object in this manner was unforgivable. The last remnants of the gigantic stone could only be seen at surface level and even then it could only be seen if you were to lay face down on the ground, this was surly a sad ending for a stone that once stood at a grand height of 12 feet.

Bridget looked crestfallen. They had blown the stone to bits. Abegail crouched by the hole. Laying out flat she gazed down at the base of the stone. "Aye, right mess they made." Abegail's voice was soft. There were pieces of the stone all over. "Do ye think a piece of it will work? Will it be enough?"

Abegail stood and looked at the rest. "We should take what we can and find a way to get out of here. They will na be distracted for much longer." As if hearing Abegail's comment the group began to hear footsteps coming towards them. They all grabbed what fragments they could and ran out of the room and into an adjoining hallway.

Indy nudged them all towards another door that appeared to head out. They moved on, and once again found themselves outside. Heading into the trees, they stopped in a grove and paused to catch their breath. Abegail sat, rested her head back against a tree and closed her eyes.

A noice from Bridget made Abegail open her eyes. Abegail looked up to find the girl staring at her. "Abegail, donna make a sudden move. Yer in a fairy ring." Abegail looked around her. "Blast it!" Abegail had sat herself down in a mushroom ring, common superstitions called it a fairy ring. The men looked at each other. Abegail looked at them, knowing they'd be thinking it was child's play and fancy. "Aye, ring of the fairer folk said to cause those who wander in to face an early death, to dance till they canna dance no more...a trap." Abegail stood slowly. "The professors notes said there might be an entrance to the land of the fae near the hill of Tara. A ring would make sense to trap anyone senseless enough ta seek the fae out. Ye know, like us." Abegail tried to smile, lighten the mood.

Bridget crossed her arms, "We need ta get ye out of there without alertin' anyone." Abegail looked at the men, "I know, you donna understand but we are near a centre of power, that stone...if they are real there is a chance they will come for me. Canna take a chance."

Walter didn't know much about fairy rings, Witch's crossroad certainly, but not much about traps set by fae folk. He did know about doorways that lead down to ancient crypts, and knew that he was starring directly at one at this very second. The other were busy trying to think of a way to get Abby out of her present situation and so they did not notice the mound. The entrance to the caverns was hidden by several tall bushes and although the mound stood a mere 100 feet from them it was almost invisible to anyone who wasn't paying particularly close attention. Could this be the entrance that leads to the sword? Had the entrance remained hidden from the Nazi's as well?

Walter was busy with something else. Bridget looked at Indy. "Grab Walter's hand then take mine. We need a human chain. Abegail just don't move." Bridget waited as Indy grabbed Walter's hand. The three grabbed hands and Bridget reached across the mushrooms for Abegail's hand. Abegail reached for Bridget. Outside the ring, the three would swear that when Bridget's arm crossed the rings edge the world in front of them ripple slightly.

Inside the ring, what Abegail saw was much different. As Abegail stared at the sight around her Bridget grabbed firmly onto her hand and pulled. Abegail found herself laying on the ground. Closing her eyes, she gave her head a shake and then looked at the others. "Thank ye. Sillyness but better safe than sorry." Abegail smiled but it was forced. The colour was gone from her face. "Right so, what are we to do now?" Abegail stood and brushed off her clothes. She felt a chill as she looked to where the ring was.

Bridget looked at Walter and Indy, concern on her face. "Well, we need to find the sword and we need a way to get ta where it might be. Any ideas men?" The women looked at Indy and Walter. Bridget had her hands on her hips and Abegail wrapped her arms around herself as if warding off a chill only she felt.

Walter continued to consider the mound and its entrance, even as they were in the process of releasing Abigail from the ring he continued to cast an occasional glance toward the mound. Walter wasn't particularly trusting when it came to stories of fairies and yet a feeling of anxiety washed over him as he contemplated what might wait them within the dark recesses of the cavern beneath the mound. His worried mind also considered the possibility that the Nazi's may have already entered the mound. 'As if goblins weren't enough' Walter thought to himself. This was clearly a turning point in their journey and one which required some serious thought, there were decisions to be made and he knew that he alone could not make the choice for the others. "I think that is what we are looking for." Walter said as he pointed to the general area of the mound, "I can see an entrance behind those bushes over there." Now pointing more precisely. "So what do you all think? I have a feeling that Niclas is in there Abby." Walter further warned.

Abegail looked to where Walter pointed. Bridget walked over to the mound entrance. "Aye, seems likely the next piece of this puzzle is in there. Fairy mound or no, this isn't just a door to a room. Likely an old burial mound. No tellin' what's on the other side."

Abegail let Walter's words sink in as Bridget examined the door. Abegail nodded, "Yes, I think we are likely to run into him again."

Bridget didn't wait for anyone else, she opened the door. The musty air hit her. "Well, not dusty so the door has been opened recently." She began to step in. Abegail halted her, "Unless ye have a gun I suggest ye let one of the men go first." Abegail looked at the men, waiting for them to pull a weapon and lead in. "Follow close we donna want to get seperated in there or lost. There is no telling what we will run into."

Abegail cast a glance back to the ring. She was sure she could see a shimmering figure there. Uncharacteristically, Abegail moved closer to Walter and gripped his arm slightly. He could feel her hand shaking. Her jaw clenched and she steeled herself for the next part as she watched Indy and Bridget step into the opening. It was dark, the light from the outdoors illuminating the first three feet of the tunnel.

Abegail knew these mounds were massive labryinths. Tunnels that stretched on and on. There was no telling where the dark passage lead and for how long. "Also no way of knowing who or what is waiting for us..." This thought Abegail kept to herself.

The mound only covered about 60 feet of the plain upon which it sat, it was greatly overgrown with grass, weeds and several small trees. The interior however had a smooth rocky ceiling with only a few roots hanging down from it, otherwise it looked as if it had been carved out of the small hill. Although it was still relatively early in the day the mound was almost completely dark on the inside. The overgrowth of bushes and weeds guarding the entrance contributed to the pitch black before them as they walked further into the mound. About 36 feet into the interior the ground began to slope downward at an incredible angle, with his trusty lighter always at hand Walter illuminated the way ahead of them, revealing a series of earthen stairs. A mounting sense of dread rushed over Walter as the four of them carefully made their way down the long winding staircase. There was far too much going on at the time ans so the four scholars made no comments on the intricately carved set of stairs and the fine excavation of the narrow downward passageway. Under normal circumstances there would have been much discussion of such matters, but now the only thing that was on their minds was securing the sword before the Nazi's had a chance to claim it for themselves.

Abegail walked with the group. The floor sloped under them and they walked down the long staircase. Bridget occassionally looked at Abegail. There was dread in the younger woman's eyes. They knew the legends of the fae and regardless of what waited for them real or not, this his and stairs were not natural.

Abegail whispered to Bridget, "Bíonn cluasa ar na clathacha." The younger woman nodded. Both were watching the walls as occassionally small crevices, intentionally carved in appeared in the smooth walls. The crevices seemed to be open at the back and would have been assumed to be cracks it they weren't so percisely carved. The saying meant the walls have ears and the two knew from legends that in mounds the fae or those who had built it always left ways to watch and listen for intruders. Abegail's hunch was that these crevices were for that purpose.

Abegail's mind was working overtime trying to figure out what they would encounter when they reached the end of the stairs. There were so many legends of swords and those that carried them in the myths of Ireland. Abegail worried they might not get it right even if they found what they were looking for. The best hope was that the German's had no idea as well. Down the four figures moved. Abegail was sure there were others, others watching the descent. Abegail wasnt' sure if she should hope it was the fair folk or the nazi's though. Neither seemed to be in their best interest right now.

Climbing down the long earthen stairway was becoming more difficult the further down they went. The path before the four scholars was still being illuminated by the flickering of Walter's trusty flip-lighter. The integrity of the stairs was starting to falter under the constant pressure being applied to them by the four fully grown adult figures. Walter and the others could hear the stairs crumbling beneath their feet and worried that the loud sounds might prematurely announce their presents. Upon reaching the ground level Walter ands Abigail once again found themselves standing in a cavern beneath a sacred site. At the end of this vast expanse there were three doorways that had been carved into the solid face of the cavern wall. Approaching the entrances they began to contemplate the significance of all three doorways in relation to their quest.

Abegail cringed as she felt the stairs under her feet. They were old and not meant to have four adults creeping down them. There was no telling who had gone down the stairs ahead of them or how many. Abegail prayed the crumbling didn't give away their position. As if sharing her thought Bridget looked at Abegail and her eyes told Abby that she too was worried. The four reached the bottom. Standing in a cavern Abegail had to chuckle, "Deja vu, aye?" She looked at Walter.

Ahead of them in the cavern stood three doorways. Abegail began inspecting on, looking for writing or carving that would help indicate what it lead to. Bridget did the same with one of the others. Indy wandered a bit, looking for a sign of others that had gone ahead of them and which path they had taken.

Abegail's hands ran over the stone. "Have ye found anything?" Her hands encountered something as if in answer to her own question. "I need the light. Walter if ye'd be so kind? I think I found something." Abegail's voice, though quiet echoed slightly in the vast cavern.

When Walter moved over with his lighter, Bridget followed. Indy continued on his own inspection. With the light closer by Abegail could see the grooves her fingers had encountered. There were small pictures carved in the rocks. Pictures of warriors, a great battle and two races who seemed to be in a war. "Seems ta be the story we are trackin' aye?"

Indiana had been searching for any signs of present activity within the cavern, specifically focusing on the three entrance ways which he inspected for any indication of current use. First examining the surface of the three archways Indy found nothing to indicate that anyone had recently touched the sides of the entrance, the thick dust and years of moss growth upon the surface appeared to have been untouched for a very long time. It wasn't until Indiana began to inspect the area around and before the three doorways that he discovered any trace of recent activity. "I found something. Step back!" Indiana said as he pointed to the floor of the cavern before the three doors. "Tracks! Someone has been here, I can see faint footprints in the dirt." Once again pointing, this time to the entrence of the outer right corridor. Indiana then began to examine the floor in front of the center doorway, taking a step back to examine the last doorway he discovered yet more tracks. Apparently whoever was had sent several people down each of the three corridors to third their chances of discovering which of them was the correct and true entrance. Indiana still standing at the very edge of the shadows cast by the interior darkness of the three entrance ways looked at Abigail who was standing near the outer left door. "So. Which one do we choose?" He asked coyly. The four scholars mulled over the answer in the fashion of a game of 'looksies' each of their faces bearing a contemplative gaze.

Bridget chuckled, "Three doors, four of us. Split up?" The girl was game for adventure.

Abegail was a bit more apprehensive. "Aye, three sets of tracks. Do any of them come back? Keep in mind that if ye take off yer on yer own for anythin' ye come across. How many down each Indy? More than one aye? Seems like bad odds ta me." Abegail turned her back on the group. She didn't know what to do. never one to bend herself to a man's will, Abegail found herself wishing one of the men would take charge. Breathing in deeply Abegail huffed and set her jaw. "We start in the first one, head in a tad and see if there is a sign of what is ahead, more pictures, anythin'" Abegail stared at her three companions, it they weren't going to make a call she would. "Then we do the same with the other two. If we find somethin' that gives us a clue of what is down them then we go with the new information. If not we keep an eye and ear out for a sign of the people ahead of us."

Abegail walked to stand near the first door, "Does it not bother anyone else that the tracks go in and yet Indy didna mention them comin' back out? I donna want any of us encounterin' them or anythin' else down here alone. I know ye donna know or even believe the stories of the fae but I can tell ye we donna want to cross the paths of them or their followers. There'd be traps to stop curious thieves." Abegail looked at the men. "And if we happen to encounter one of the other creatures, well...we won't be better for it." Abegail looked back down the dark corridor, and shivered, remembering the figures that were in the ring with her. The others hadn't seen them but she had. They had tried to call her to tell. The lean man had walked towards her, intent on taking her hand. Abegail shook her head attempting to erase his image. "I think we should stay together."

Indy had not found tracks leading out of the three entrances, nor would he, the tracks that he discovered before the doorways were barley visible and not completely intact, suggesting that many people had entered each. Walter also agreed that there was really no choice but to enter each of them in turn. Walter once again removed his lucky lighter from his pocket and started to walk behind Abigail while holding the lighter out in front of her. In a strange way Walter kind of hoped that there was something to this whole fairy/goblin business. Then at least the fear that he was now feeling would make sense for a grown man, the alternative seemed far too irrational.

Abegail walked, Walter stayed clse to her with his lighter to light the way. The four scholars moved down the passageway of the first door. As they moved Abegail noticed random carvings in the wall. Most were covered by moss. Abegail stopped abruptly causing Walter to bump into her. The others followed closely behind. Abegail grabbed Walter's wrist and pulled the lighter closer to the carving. With one hand she brushed the moss away. She was muttering to herself, half english and half gaelic.

In front of her, Walter could see the carving she was uncovering. There were two figures. One large and imposing, gigantic. The other was lean, tall and holding something in front of him. Abegail pointed to the lean figure. "That one there, the spear is in his hand." Pointing behind the figure a large rock stood. "The stone, before they destroyed it."
Abegail shook her head. "Another door." She backed up from the wall. A glance into the darkness of the rest of the corridor and Abegail wanted to go. There was something watching her.

The four turned and arriving back into the main cavern turned to the second door. As they walked in Bridget and Indy began making some noise, talking to themselves. brdiget raised her voice a little "Abegail, yer glowin'. Ye too Walter. Yer pocket." Abegail turned to give the young woman a scowl. "What de ye mean I'm glowin'?" Then Abegail saw Indy and Bridget's pockets. They too were glowing. "It's the pieces of the stone." Abegail reached into her pocket and pulled her out. Abegail turned to walk down the second corridor again, frowing at the rock glowing in her hands. In front of her the darkness made a noise. Abegail took a step back from the noise. Just over her shoulder she could feel Walter standing there, "Tell me ye hear that? People? Animal?" her voice a whisper.

Walter had to confess that he was not hearing the whispers of which Abigail was speaking, but judging by the reactions of the others he quickly concluded that they had indeed heard the strange sounds, though he didn't understand why he had not. As the others continued forward Walter stood his ground, being distracted by something that was apparently moving within the darkness behind them. Bridget passed Walter with her eyes focused forward and so she did not realize that Walter was no longer advancing toward the source of the strange whispers. Indiana did however notice Walter's on behavior and although he did not say anything to him he didn't stop to confront him, Walter simply handed Indiana his trusty lighter, "Take good care of it. It's priceless to me" Walter said as he handed it to Indiana, who then continued on down the corridor with the others. As Abigail the others continued to walk towards the sounds that they were hearing Walter once again heard something rustle behind him. Leaning forward in his standing position he reached out with his hearing and tried to detect any tonal evidence of a presence within the darkness. Walter, who was of average height for an adult male, had focused his eyes on a spot within the darkness roughly at the height that one would expect to be eye level with anyone who might walk toward them. Walter had no sense of the stature that the person in the darkness, whomever he was, had possessed and so it came as a great surprise when he finally saw the glowing, piercing eyes of his mysterious guest. Walter felt his neck strain as he gazed up toward the blazing eyes in the darkness. Greatly disturbed by what he saw a proceed to step backwards as he made his way to where the others had walked, after a few steps in this manner Walter noticed that there was a hole in the wall which separated the outer-right corridors. Still stepping backward Walter kept his eyes focused on the spot within the darkness were he saw the glowing eyes. Abigail and the others were standing at the lip of the corridor and had apparently discovered something disturbing within yet another cavernous chamber. As he slowly stepped backwards he noticed several other breaks in the walls of the corridor.

Abegail stepped away from Walter and moved a little more down the corridor. Abegail could still hear the noise. She was sure someone was talking. The more she moved the surer she was that she heard voices whispering in the dark. Abegail forgot her own warning that the walls had ears. Abegail stepped into the darkness, not realizing that niether Walter nor his lighter was still with her. She could feel other's behind her and she was sure the rest were following. Abegail found it hard to see and held her piece of the stone in front of her. She walked on and came to the opening of another cavern. Her mind was cuirous, wanted to know what was ahead but good sense stopped her. "We went too far this wasna the plan."

It was too late, Bridget and Indy walked into Abegail and the three of them were in the cavern. Looking around, Abegail gasped as she realized they stood in the burial chamber. Bridget smiled and began inspecting the various bodies. Indy too moved around to look. He passed her and that is when Abegail saw Walter's lighter. "Indy? Why do ye have Walter's lighter? Walter, why does Indy..." Abegail turned and looked at Walter. He was not there. "Walter?" Abegail looked back into the darkness. "Walter, what are ye playin' at?" Abegail placed her hands on her hips. "Indy, ye fool. Did ye just leave him in the dark?"

Abegail shook her head, she was angry and a little worried. "Walter, get yer ass in here. Do ye hear me?" Abegail stepped into the darkness again, holding her stone in front of her for light. She walked back to where they are had started. "Walter, donna scare me or I will beat ye." Abby's voice a harsh whisper. "Where the hell was he?"

Abegail stopped suddenly. She could see his back dimly in the faint light of her stone. "Walter, please donna do that. We have to stay together." She reached out to place a hand on his back. Moving to stand with him, Abegail frowned. Walter looked scared and was staring at something. Abegail turned to look where he was looking. Then she saw it the breaks in the wall. "Ifreann na Fola" Abegail swore and grabbed Walter's arm. There were eyes in the darkness ahead of her.

"Back away Walter, come with me..." Abegail tried to back up and pull her friend with her.

Walter jumped slightly when Abigail laid her hand on his back, accompanied by a reflexive double take. Even though he wasn't sure what he was seeing in the darkness he was terrified sufficiently enough that he immediately placed his right hand around Abigail's waiste from the back and proceeded to step away from the glaring red eyes. To their relief the thing remained motionless and did not attempt to follow them as they backed out of the corridor. Passing one break in the wall and then another Walter and Abigail continued to briskly step backwards. Suddenly, as they passed a third break in the wall two SS officers, one with a semi-automatic pistol and another with the standard issue rifle, jumped out from the adjoining corridor. "Wer sind Sie? identifizieren Sie sich." (Who are you? Identify yourself) The higher ranking officer on the right shouted. The two soldiers pointed their weapons at Walter and Abigail and then once again in German, shouted out a second identical demand, which again received no reply from either of them. Walter and Abigail thought that they were dead when the two officers raised their weapons with the intent to fire upon them. The two scholars surely would have been dead if those two officers had not been viciously attacked by the 'thing'that they had seen in the darkness further down the corridor. The fear that they had felt at the site of guns being pulled on them was nothing in comparison to the horror of seeing those two monstrously gruesome, gnarled hands snatch up the two men from behind and drag them into the pitch blackness and to certain death. Walter and Abigail immediately turned around and ran down the the last few feet of the corridor.

Abegail felt Walter's hand circle her waist and he backed away with her. She frowned. "Please don't let it move..." Abegail watched the eyes as she and Walter moved together as one away from them. The eyes didn't move closer. Abegail and Walter headed down the corridor to where she had left Indy and Bridget. "There's a chamber down here....burial." Abegail didn't finish the rest of her description as the two officers stepped out in front of them. Abegail jumped and grabbed Walter's arm as the men startled her. They were yelling something. Abegail gritted her teeth, "I donna understand ye, how would ye like it if I started yellin' at ye in gaelic?" The guns were raised and Abegail closed her eyes. "That's it Abby girl...." She waited for the shots to ring out.

Beside her, she heard Walter inhale sharply. Abegail opened her eyes to see two hands reach out and drag the men into the darkness. They were not the hands of those she had seen in the circle. No, they belong to something much bigger, much more grotesque. "Fomorian..." flashed in Abegail's head as she remembered the carving on the wall of the two figures.

As the men's bodies were pulled into the darkness, Walter and Abegail ran towards the chamber. Neither spared a glance to where the officers had disappeared. What was happening to them was too scary to even give a second thought to. Arriving in the burial chamber, Indy and Bridget were blissfully unaware of what had occurred. They were in deep conversation about the bodies. Both turned as Walter and Abegail ran in, faces pale from what they had seen. "We need to go, now...third corridor or another way out but we canna stay here!" Abegail's voice was forceful.

"Well, at least we now know which entrance leads to the treasure." Walter said in all seriousness. "If we are going back to the beginning of the three doorways we better slip into the adjoining tunnel through one of the breaks in the walls that Abigail and I discovered." Although Walter had made the suggestion he didn't explain why it was important to use one of the other tunnels, Abigail understood but remained silent. "Its your call Abigail."

Abegail looked at Walter. He was mostly right. They could go back to the first one and finish looking but the third remained unchecked. Abegail shivered at Walter's suggestion of the crack. Indy and Bridget simply looked at each other and frowned. "Whatever ye say but seems a bit odd, wantin' to go in a crack instead of the corridor." Bridget looked at Walter and Abby wondering what had gotten into them.

Abegail stood and considered the problem. Corridor or crack, the walls hid things they were not meant to see. Abegail set her jaw, "We take one of the breaks, stay close together this time, no one seperates aye?" Abegail turned and looked into the dark corridor. Closing her eyes briefly she took a deep breath in, "Saints protect us.." Abby whispered before she stepped into the dark, her three companions behind her.

They walked a bit before coming to a crack. Abegail nodded. Walter and Abby stepped in first, Indy and Bridget close behind. Indy barely hid his amusement thinking that the two in front were acting like scared children in a nursery rhyme. Abegail heard his slight chuckle and hissed at him ,"Ye donna know what yer mockin' Indy. Ye may not think their real or the bogey will get ye but there are always things we donna understand." In the darkness Abegail was sure she could feel the presence of others. She grabbed Walter's arm, the feel comforting in the dark. They moved on and towards the final corridor.

As Walter and Abigail walked together they began to whisper to one another as Bridget and Indiana walked behind them and wondered about what they were talking about. Walter put his mouth close to Abigail's ear, "Do you feel that too? I think there is someone else in this corridor besides the four of us." Abigail nodded in agreement as she and Walter continued on. The anxiety that they were feeling was very different from what they had experienced in the last corridor, they felt a definite presence but this time it felt far less monstrous. As Indiana and Bridget traveled behind them they to had started up a conversation, "What are they conspiring about? Any ideas Bridget." Indiana asked the young girl beside him. Bridget was just about to answer when the sound of someone moving behind them interrupted their conversation. The noise was loud enough for all four scholars to hear as the four adventurers turned in unison and looked behind them. They were all at a loss as to how the individual down the hallway could have gotten behind them. This ironically was their first reaction to the presence of the intruder, rather than the luminous aura that radiated from this individuals body. Although he did not dare speak it Walter was certain that this was indeed a fairy, and just as he had stated to his students before embarking on this latest adventure, this Fae being bore no wings upon its back. The four awestruck scholars found themselves face to face with an inhumanly tall and majestic being with long, flowing, golden-blonde hair.

Abegail jumped slightly as Walter whispered to her. Her mind was focused on the whatever was present with them and she had forgotten about the others. "Aye, there is another." Abegail nodded slightly trying to keep her attention on her surroundings.

Bridget shook her head at Indy's question. She had an inkling that something had spooked them but she chalked it up to them being unused to enclosed spaces and bodies and things.

All four heard the noise. Turning Abegail saw the figure. She paled and gripped Walter's arm, "Tuatha De Dannan" was all Abegail managed to whisper out as the rest stared at the figure.

The figure moved forward a bit more. Bridget's eyes were wide with childlike excitement. Oh she knew the stories but this was just amazing. Stories are stories but here in front of her stood one of the fair folk. Abegail's eyes were wide as well but it wasn't excitement that the Fae man saw in them. She knew him, had seen him in the fairy ring and he had tried to beckon her to join the dance with them. Abegail backed up and against Walter. "What do ye want?" Abegail was addressing the Dannan man. She knew he would not be alone, and if he was it wouldn't be for very long. "Fág dúinn a bheith ..." Bridget turned to Abegail. "No don't you see? If he stays he can help us. We seek the sword. We need to stop others from getting it." Bridget turned to address the man.

Abegail looked at the man as he gazed at the group. The Dannan would not help without payment, the fae never did anything without some sort of reward to themselves. be it food, trinkets, a baby or a human to take back wtih them, the fair folk only did things if there was something in it for them. So Abegail asked him, "Ní bheidh muid ag dul in éineacht leat. Agus ní bheidh tú cúnamh gan ar phraghas ... cad é do praghas?" She held her breath waiting for an answer.

The Fae man before the four scholars didn't seem too impressed with the humans, they had degraded their kind and turned them into a comical farce, and now they asked for help. "An bhfuil tú ag súil againn chun cabhrú leat a aisghabháil ar ár claíomh naofa, chun tairbhe do chine." Although Walter knew very little Gaelic he sensed that the creatures response was not too positive. The long bow that the man-thing had at his side was swung over its shoulder as it turned and walked to the rear of the corridor, which was less then ten feet away, it then vanished before their eyes. "That went well." Indiana commented in a slightly sarcastic tone. The four of them once again found themselves on their own wandering through the corridors in search of the sword, Walter and the others were becoming concerned that exploring these passageways was taking far too long, knowing that the longer they spent aimlessly walking the corridors, the better chance the Nazi had of retrieving the item for themselves. Fortunately there was only one more corridor to search through, with any hope they would discover the treasure before the Nazi's could.

Abegail glared at the Dannan man as he turned and walked away. Beside him Walter could feel Abegail's anger. "Aye, well..." Abegail shouldn't have been surprised, she knew they were fickle creatures. "Let's move." Abegail turned and headed on. The four moved steadily down the last corridor. Abegail scanned the walls for more carvings, more eyes or signs of more nazi's ready to jump out at them.

It was dark at times and even with Walter's lighter Abegail found herself feeling the way around on the walls. She no longer cared if someone stumbled onto them, she just wanted to find the sword. Entering the end of the corridor the scholars found themselves in an oddly carved out chamber. A pool of water stood to the right. It wasn't large and had a lip around it. It had carvings and decorations adoring the lip and the wall behind it. "Seems ceremonial..." Bridget moved to investigate the pool. Abegail moved to the other side of the room. There on the wall was pictures and carving of a man, a great warrior with spear, armour, sword and standing near a great stone. In front of him was bodies, the enemy. Abegail tilted her head and looked at the drawing. Is this what would become of them if the nazi's managed to get all the pieces?

Moving her way down the wall, Abegail noticed a carving of a sword. Getting closer she saw that the sword sat in the lap of a woman. She looked sad and the sword seemed to be the cause. Near this carving was one of a man, he lay as if awaiting burial. In the next, the woman is holding her hands out in front of her. To her right is a pool of water. Underneath sits some words.

Coinnigh mé leat chun maireachtáil
I réimsí an bháis cúpla choimeád beo

Tá mé áit a bhfuil sé domhain
Bréag mé go fóill nach féidir, léim

Tá mé do leanúna i bhfianaise,
Ach tá mé dofheicthe ar an oíche
Ag mhéideanna éagsúla le feiceáil agam
Ní bheidh mé dochar duit, nach bhfuil aon eagla

Abegail began talking to herself, translating it odd words. "This is...well it's a riddle." Abegail felt a pang as she realized she didn't have her briefcase and thus no paper or pencil. "Come here...I'll read, Bridget help with the translation and we'll see if we can make some sense of it."

Abegail began to read the words out loud.

"Keep me with you to survive
In the fields of death few keep alive

I'm where it's deep
I lie still, cannot leap

I'm your follower in the light,
Yet I'm invisible in the night
At various sizes I appear
I won't harm you, have no fear"

Abegail thought over the words. Bridget frowned. "I think the second part is talkin' about the water, and she is standin' beside the pool. A clue then?" Abegail frowned. "Maybe?" She continued to look over the words and their meaning as the three others discussed the meanings out loud.

Fearing that he would not have much to offer up and assistance to solve this riddle Walter took his cue from Abigail, who was far more knowledgeable in the area of Irish mythology. With a certain degree of certainty Walter offered up a possible solution. "Now this is just a guess mind you, but could there be a subterranean lake at the end of this last corridor." Walter was however fairly knowledgeable in the area of Athurian legend and as a result he was aware that there were many old myths and tales concerning a magical item, usually a sword, which are kept hidden in certain mystical lakes and are only bestowed to a righteous individual. Could there be similar themes running through the myths and legends associated with the sword of Fraegarthach.

Abegail frowned. She was scanning the carving intently. "Aye water is involved...but I donna think it's a lake." Abegail stepped closer to the carving. "I think the first two lines are about the sword. You would keep it to survive in the fields od death, the battleground. It was forged for the great battle. The second part is about water. I would bet my life on it. It's the third part...."

Abegail's hand caressed the carving of the pool. Her head tilted. "The pool on here has the outline of a shadow....it's carved in, but why add dimension to this? Nothing else..."Abegail didn't finish the thought. Turning she ran towards the pool in the room. It almost looked as if she was about to jump in. Instead she went to it's side. Abegail began feeling around the rocks. "Here! I found it!" With great effort Abegail began to move a portion of the wall behind the pool. It was dark but the edges of stairs could be seen. "Shadow, the third part was about shadows. In the shadows of the water." Her cheeks flushed in excitement and a smile touched her lips.

Abegail didn't wait for the others. She stepped into the dark and descended the stairs. She kept a hand on the wall. It was a narrow stairway and damp from the pool of water. The stairs were carved into the rock and the pool seemed to be the decoy for others who would look for the sword. Most would assume that it was in the pool as Bridget had. Others would search for an other body of water in the twisting corridors. Abegail had noticed the small clue carved into the picture. Subtle shadow. Abegail moved slowly, her footing tentative on the slick stone stairs. Down further she went. Reaching the bottom, Abegail saw it. The sword placed on a rock. In the carving the woman no longer had the sword. She must have placed it here after the man had died. Abegail wondered who they were but there was no time for that now.

She very cautiously approached the sword, unsure of how to go about taking it. Something like this one did not just grab. Abegail stared down at it, not daring to breathe.

Walter and the others were still contemplating the possible meaning of the strange carvings when Abigail suddenly ran off on her own down the corridor to the possible location of the sword. Walter and Bridget who had been standing right next to her witnessed Abigail's flight down the unknown and mysterious passageway. Indiana had his back turned and was examining the rest of the cavern when Abigail ran off, by the time he turned his head all he could see was the blur of Walter and Bridget running after Abigail. Indiana briskly walked down the corridor in pursuit of Abigail and his other two colleagues, he suddenly stopped however when at the midpoint of the corridor he noticed with the others had not. Coming to a complete stop he looked to his left and noticed an opening in the wall of the corridor. Walter and Abigail had not informed Indiana or Bridget as to what they had encountered in the last corridor and so he felt no compunction about following after the two glowing red orbs which he had seen within this latest passageway.

Abegail barely heard the others join her. She was staring at the sword. Bridget's voice drew her out of her thoughts. "Is that?" The excitement clear on the girl's face and in her voice.

Abegail turned to look at them, "Aye, it's...Where's Indy?" Abegail frowned. "Dinna tell me he dinna come with you...." Abegail's eyes went wide, "Walter! We have ta find him, what if..." Abegail looked torn. The sword or her friend.

"We have ta find him. We should na be seperated, not in this place." Abegail gestured to the stairs, urging the others back up. She turned to glance at the sword and whispered, "Donna go anywhere..." Abegail was afraid it was just a vision, that they were so close and it was just going to disappear if she turned her back on it. With her jaw set Abegail pushed the others up to find their wayward friend.

Neither Walter nor Bridget had noticed that Indiana had not followed them down the corridor in pursuit of Abigail as she ran into the present chamber. "He was standing directly behind us when you took off down the corridor. He must have see you take off." Walter commented. Bridget was totally in the dark on the subject of what might lay within the dark recess of the tunnels and so she didn't say much as Walter and Abigail discussed what Bridget considered to be very curious banter. They were all in agreement, they had to backtrack and find Indy before something dreadful happened to him. As they search the secret passageway which Indiana had discovered only moments before Water and Abigail explained what they had seen within the last corridor.

Abegail nodded as they searched for Indy. They filled Bridget in on the eyes and the thing that had taken the officers. Abegail wasn't sure what she was more worried about at this point. The thing in the dark, the fae, the nazi's or that the sword would be gone when they went back. That was assuming of course they could find Indy.

Her voice a harsh whisper in the dark, Abegail called for him. "Indy, come out now...ye canna seperate. We donna know what else is in here..." Silently she was cursing the man for wandering off. She stuck close to the others, not wishing to loose any more of their party.

"If ye don't come out now I will throttle ye to an inch of yer life." Abegail attempted to hide her fear behind her anger. "Where is he?"

Feeling that it was his duty as the only male present Walter took up the front position during the search through the corridor. Abigail and Bridget were walking closely behind him when suddenly Walter tripped over something and fell to the floor of the corridor. "What the hell is this." Walter said as he sat upon the floor feeling the obstacle before him, the same mass which had taken his feet from beneath him and cast him to the ground. The three sunned scholars stood breathless and motionless as they feared the worse, their friend dead?

Abegail heard rather than felt Walter fall. "What the hell is this." Abegail held her breath. "Oh no, please don't let it be Indy....please..." Cautiously, Abegail crouched and felt for what Walter had tripped over. "Walter, move yer lighter so I can see what it is ye fell over. Bridget, keep an eye and ear out. No tellin' what is in here with us...."

Bridget kept half an eye on the corridor behind them and half on Abegail as she crouched. Abegail waited for the lighter to illuminate the lump. It could be a person,a body but Abegail couldn't tell for sure. Whispering to Walter, "Do ye think it's Indy?" Her fear was clear in her voice. Abegail bit her lip to stop the potential tears.

Walter's hand shook as he pulled his lighter from his jacket pocket to illuminate the lump before him. At the moment he had no answers for Abigail and no way to comfort her, it was far too dark in this infernal corridor to tell what lay in front of them. Slowly reaching up to the face of the person laying on the floor with his lighter the body was revealed to be that of an SS soldier, possibly one of the two soldiers which he and Abigail had witnessed being dragged to their death by the brutish monstrosity which hid itself in the darkness of the last corridor. Walter breathed a breath of relief as Abigail and Bridget simultaneously developed a nervous giggle from the sheer absurdity of the situation. As the three of them reached the apex of their relief they were suddenly overcome with fear as Indiana jumped out from the darkness of yet another break in the corridor wall. "Hey guys!" He shouted. "Look what I found."

Abegail, choked back a sob as the lighter revealed the face of an SS officer. Behind her Bridget began a small fit of giggles. They seem to be contagious as Abegail too giggled in her relief. Abegail's hands wiped the tears from her eyes and she hoped no one had seen them. A voice in the dark and the appearance of Indy shocked Abby out of her giggles.

"Oh I'll show ye what I think of what ye found, ye bastard. What do ye mean by goin' away from us? I found the sword ye sorry excuse for an archeologist." Abby bit back many other insults as she stood and stalked off to where Indy had called from. She paused only briefly to make sure the others were following. "Do I need to put leashes on all of ye to make sure we stick together? Indy, what did ye think ye were doin'?"

She was mad but she was also extremely relieved and hid it all in her anger. It would do no good for her to let on how scared and nervous she had been.

Behind Bridget raised an eyebrow at Abegail's leash comment. She laughed once and followed.

Since Indy had not joined Abigail and the others within the sword-chamber he did not know that they had discovered the item. He had mistaken a glimmer within the cavern he discovered for the sword. 'If you found the sword then what is this." Indiana said as he led the others into the room. "I think there may be some emeralds in here as well." The mere mention of emeralds sent shockwaves up Walter and Abigail's spines. with an understanding which only they could possess Walter and Abigail shouted for everyone to immediately leave the chamber. The warning would not be carried out as a pair of red glowing eyes suddenly appeared before the four scholars. This single set of eyes were followed by still others, indicating that there were at least five creatures of immense size within the room.

Abegail reached for Indy's arm and pulled him as hard as she could. She dragged the man as she ran out of the cavern. A stream of curses came from Abegail's mouth as she ran. She pulled Indy with her and headed back for where the sword was tucked away. She ran down the wet stairs, barely stopping herself from slipping. She had no idea where Bridget and Walter had gotten to. "Can't worry about that right now...."

Abegail approached the sword again. It wasn't a vision, it remained where they had left it earlier. "Now what do I need to take ye? Come on now....I canna just take you can I? It's never that easy...." Abegail bit her lip and a frown furrowed her brow. "Think Abby..." Abegail's mind raced with all the legends that contained swords. In them the sword never simply sat there. No, this was different. No guardian stood by, there was no obvious test, no riddle.

A noise behind her cause Abegail to jump. Fearing it was one of the things she grabbed the hilt of the sword. Turning she held it in front of her, ready to defend herself.

At that crucial moment a think familiar voice ripped through the the intense emotions of the present situation. "Ah Fraulein McHugh. Thank you for retrieving ze sword." Niclas Elberich spat forth. "By a woman's hand. Miss McHugh, yes!." Turning to her left Abigail noticed Niclas and his two junior officers, with their weapons placed firmly against Walter and Bridget's heads. "The sword Miss Mchugh! The sword or their lives."

Abegail paled. "No, dammit, not now!" She turned, the sword in hand to face Niclas. Abegail stared at Bridget and Walter. The tip of the blade lowered slightly. Bridget shook her head at Abegail.

"What will ye do if I just decide to run you through with it?" Abby knew there was no way she'd get to him before one or both guns went off. Her mind raced. "Where is Indy?" That man had disappeared yet again. She wanted to curse him, curse Niclas and curse this entire place. Abegail decided to see how much Niclas knew of Irish legends.
"I canna just hand it over. I am it's owner now. It canna go to another unless I am dead. Will do ye no good to kill them. I canna just give it to you. Ye will incur the wrath of the Dannan if ye try and take it."

Abegail swallowed, fearful he would shoot her in order to get the sword. "I'll make ye a deal. I'll take the sword and come with ye. Do ye know how all the weapons work together? The professor never made it that far with ye did he? Can ye read Gaelic? I donna think ye can. So, ye let them go and I'll come with ye, sword and all."

Niclas smile slyly, "You amuse me Fraulein. Yes you are correct, Miss McHugh. I know nothing about your mongrel Gaelic language." Niclas commented, and then continuing under his breath, "Makes about as much sense of the speak of the impure Israelite." Although Abigail could not hear this comment, Walter was right next to Niclas and heard it clearly, his ancestry was partially Jewish, if he could have reached out he would have killed Niclas then and there. His hatred for the Nazi mentality was personal now. "Besides Miss McHugh, I don't need to take it from you. I have someone in my employment who can possess the sword under any circumstance, regardless of your silly fairy rules and regulations." After finishing his boastful commentary Niclas stepped aside to reveal the presence of the tale pale Fae person that they had encountered in the second corridor.

Abegail narrowed her eyes at the Fae man. "Aye, you'd think he could but even he would have to challenge me for it. He cann just take it. I possess it. I am it's rightful owner. He knows that." She raised her chin to the Dannan man. "They are not my silly rules, they be his and I wouldna mock them with him standin' right beside ye."

Abegail looked at the Dannan man "Ye through yerself in with that lot? They have stolen the rest. The spear, the armour and they destroyed most of the stone. Is that what ye want? What price did ye ask from them hmm? What are they promisin' to give to ye? Ye have no idea what they will do to ye once yu give the sword to them."

Abegail raised the sword again. She glanced at Walter and Bridget. Her confidence waivered slightly. They still had guns pointed at them but she couldn't just give the sword up without a fight. Abegail turned her full attention to the Dannan man and Niclas. "Well, have at it. If ye wish to take it then do so...I'll not be handin' it over." Abegail's eyes flashed and if she was wearing clothes of a different time she'd be every bit a Celtic warrior woman, fierce, stubborn and determined.

Although Walter and Bridget were very nervous about their predicament they also could appreciate Abigail's position, Clearly she did not want to make the wrong move and put her friends in danger, the reality of the situation had to be addressed however. Walter in particular knew that there was little Abigail could do at this point, though he could never and would never tell Abigail to give up the sword. "Do not give it to them Ab's."

Abegail's eyes flickered briefly to Walter. She nodded, still pointing the sword at the Niclas and the Dannan man. "Tell me, what will you do when the others in the caverns come to stop you from taking the sword? You do not have everything with you and the last time it took all the pieces to defeat them." Her voice was eerily calm, almost devoid of her accent. Abegail walked forward a few steps, the sword still pointing at the men. She raised her chin, hazel eyes flashing more green for a moment. Her hands were warm, and she realized it was the sword.

Abegail remembered what power the sword afforded it's wielder and she knew she had the upper hand for a moment. Stepping closer to her friends, she looked at the Dannan man. In his usually impassive face she saw that he too knew what the sword afforded her. Abegail smirked slightly, "Aye, I know what it gives me. It whispers to me." In her soul she could hear the spirit of the sword talking to her. The Dannan man's eyebrows raised. "Oh aye, I know what it will cost me...." Abegail swallowed. Oh, the sword was making it very clear that there would be a price if she did indeed use it.

"I am prepared to pay if it means my companions leave unharmed. Do not doubt me." Abegail's voice was still calm and almost cold sounding as it echoed off the stone walls. "Now, will you let them go?"

"Tá tú ceart Iníon McHugh. Ní féidir le duine rud amháin dochar a dhéanamh linn." Came a deep voice from behind Abigail. In that instant there appeared the eyes of the six immense creatures that the four scholars had seen in the chamber filled with false gold. All around the group of humans these eyes appeared to break up the conflict and cast silence over the entire gathering. From out of the darkness there came monstrous hands which snatched every single weapon away, even the sword of Fraegarthach in Abigail's possession. With the guns no longer against their heads Walter and Bridget ran to Abigail's side.

Abegail felt the sword pulled away as she heard the deep voice. It was right behind her. She could feel the breath on her hair. Walter and Bridget came to Abegail's side. "Where the hell is Indy?" Abegail wondered as she turned to look at the thing that had taken the sword.

"That does not belong to ye. I am the wielder. Ye have no more claim to it than the Dannan at this point." Abegail's tone was calm, her accent coming back. She was trying to gauge what the creature was going to do now that it had the sword in it's possession. "What do ye intend to do with us now?" Abegail looked up towards the eyes. Her expression questioning. She was beyond fearing any one the things in the cavern. Too much had gone on for her to be afraid now. Abegail was bolstered by her companions presence at her side. Bridget's eyes were wide as the girl absorbed all that hat just occured.

In the corner of the room Indiana was crouching in the darkness as he tried to come up with a plan to save his friends. Unfortunately he had lost his gun in the darkness of the corridors. He started to search through his pockets for something to use against his foes. "Damn." He said in frustration and failure. Checking his trouser pocket he felt something. Reaching his hand into his pocket Indy pulled out several pieces of the stone of destiny, which he had gathered up from the countryside. Indiana had not idea if the fragments possessed any power, all he had to go on was what he had learned from reading Abigail's books and scholarly papers. Hoping that he could save her so that he might inform Abigail as to his fondness for her writings Indian stood and then tossed the stone fragments in the air. "Abigail, Walter, Bridget! Run!!." The close vicinity of the sword with the fragments caused a tremendous blinding light to appear within the room, a light which only the Fae man and the six beastly Fomorians could see. The beasts reeled back as the leader dropped the sword at Abigail's feet.

Indy's voice rang out. Rocks flew and the Dannan and Formorian's all reeled from something the humans could not see. The sword clattered at her feet and Abegail promptly grabbed it.

Holding it, careful not to stab anyone or swing the sword Abegail ran. She followed Walter, Bridget and Indy out and up the stairs. She was sure to shove Niclas hard out of the way as she passed him. "Bastard" Abegail hissed at him as she pushed into and then past him.

Footing was treacherous on the stairs and worse for Abby with the sword in her hands. She climbed and entering the upper chamber again the group of scholar's attempted to navigate the corridors out of the mound. Abegail's breath was hard in her chest and it burned her lungs as her legs worked to carry her out. She was afraid at any moment the nazi's would be on their heels. The the four made for the door Bridget's voice rang out ahead, "What are we goin' ta do once we get out? No car remember?"

Abegail kept running behind hoping someone had a plan. "Donna run into the fairy ring on yer way out! We have enough trouble already."

Before ascending the treacherous stairwell Indiana used the various breaks in the corridor wall to retrieve his gun and whip from the floor of the chamber of false gold. Indy then followed the others up the stairs, now running in the last position. Bridget's comment about their lack of transportation worried Walter and the others greatly. But as they passed the fairy ring and then the rocky bend where they had initially pulled up in the jeep they noticed two vehicles, where there should have been none. At that moment they realized that when Niclas and his soldiers had appeared within the chamber below they had only just arrived at the mound minutes before. The two wayward soldiers that they had encountered within the corridors were not a part of their party, the Nazi's in fact, knew nothing of the location of the mound. It was true that the four scholars had the sword in their possession, but it was equally as true, that they had unwittingly led their enemies to the sword in the first place. This rather distasteful realization was of little importance at present. With Indiana in the drivers seat, Abigail at his side and the others in the back, the jeep drove off. Indiana pulled out his weapon and disabled the other vehicle with several well placed shots. The had not won the day yet, for as they drove away they saw a Bachem 349 interceptor flying above them.

Abegail slid into the passenger seat, struggling to catch her breath from the run. She clutched the sword tightly to her. There was no way anyone would be taking it from her until they had a place to hide it. She was grateful that the nazi's had left the jeeps but the bile rose in her throat as the fact that they had led them to the sword occurred to her.

Abegail's hands shook slightly as they held the sword. The adrenaline was pumping through her body. That had all been too close, and too many all at once. It was times like this that she wished she was at home in her mother's kitchen instead of running around the Irish countryside. The sword was almost vibrating in her hands. It wanted her to fight with it, it wanted her to pay the price of it's power. Abegail took a deep breath and ignoring the sword, turned to Bridget and Walter in the back. "Are ye alright? I'm sorry but I couldna just hand it over. Not now, they'd be unstopable."

Walter nodded in understanding and acceptance of Abigail's actions within the cavern, feeling that they were justified. "No problem from my end Abigail. Nothing must change the outcome of the war, the Nazi's are falling fast, and they must not think that they have a chance otherwise." The plane that they had seen above had drifted far behind them, so that they could no longer hear the incessant droning of its engines. "Where to now." Indiana chimed in.

Abegail mulled over their options. They needed to get far away but to someplace where the sword could be interred again, hidden away. "Carrowmore Cemetary"

Bridget raised her eyebrows. "That's quite the drive and it's must more burial mounds. Why there?"

Abegail sighed, "Aye, more mounds but this belongs in the hands of the Dannan woman who originally hid it. The sword tells me the warrior, the one who possessed all the pieces was her love and when he died, the four exacting their payment from him she was left with the sword. She hid it, tucked away, only those in great need of it would dare the depths of the mound. There are Court mounds at Carrowmore. I might have a chance there..." Abegail kept back that the sword was asking her to use it so it could exact a price from her. She held back that it frightened her as much as the surge of power from it thrilled her. Abegail looked at the rest daring them to question her statement about the sword telling her anything.

"Carrowmore is near Sligo. We can find a place to rest there." Abegail turned her attention forward and held onto the sword.

"Sligo?" Indiana asked with a slight look of concern shadowing his face. "I've had some minor run-ins there." He thought to himself. And then reconsidering in typical Indiana Jones fashion, which is often clueless in certain ways, "They couldn't still be mad about that." Walter and Abigail loved Indy dearly, but even they had to admit that the rather brazen exploits of his past are sometimes a hindrance. Indiana didn't let the others know of his concerns, thinking that he could just lay low after entering the town. He could only hope that they would be staying some place low key and unassuming. It seems as though Indiana had gotten himself into a spot of trouble with an Irish Mafia family in the vicinity.

Abegail saw the look of concern on Indy's face and heard him talking to himself. She was too tired to care. As long as he hadn't pissed off the fae or some more nazi's she was happy. Abegail sat in silence for the drive to Sligo. Arriving, Abegail had Indy drive to the smallest inn they could find. "Go in, get the rooms." Indy hopped out and went to take care of getting rooms.

Abegail turned in her seat, her face drawn and pale. She needed sleep, they all did. "Bridget, ye go in ahead of us. Walter would ye mind walkin' in with yer arm around me? We can put the sword between us and hide it as much as we can. Do us no go ta go walking with it just hangin' out." Abegail slid out of the passenger seat. The sword wanted her to use it and it was taking a great deal of willpower to hold it in check. She leaned against the jeep, holding the sword in front of her.

Indy came back with two sets of keys for the rooms. Smiling, he and Bridget headed in slowly in front of Walter and Abegail. Abegail held the sword at her side so Walter could press in close to her. The sword would be between them and a little less obvious. Abegail hoped Indy had paid the innkeeper a little extra to forget he ever saw them. She waited for Walter so the two could walk in together.

Walter tried to be as nonchalant as possible as he placed his arm around Abigail's waist and held onto her arm, though a bit awkward to them it did conceal the sword quite nicely. Indy and Bridget had a few cute remarks to make as they watched Walter and Abigail in their embrace. Walter and Abigail looked at each other, both with a conspiratorial expression on their face as they imagined all the ways they would get back at Indy and Bridget for making sport of them. It seemed as though Indiana didn't make much of an impression on the innkeeper financial wise, for as soon as they climbed the stairs he was on the phone. What non of them realized was that the innkeeper was a relation of the McCain's, Ireland's most notorious mobster family. The four scholars were oblivious to these facts as they all settled in their rooms and prepared for some needed rest.

Abegail's cheeks flushed a little at the teasing. She had caused her fair share of rumours in the States. Single woman, professor, seen around her single male colleagues. Oh, Abegail had heard it all. This was different. She wasn't really in the mood for teasing and yet, she had to admit they must look pretty cozy walking together. Reaching their rooms, Abegail moved away from Walter, "Thank ye. I think we managed to hide it effectively." She turned to Bridget and Indy who were still chuckling at the pair. "As fer ye two. Ye both could have been a bit more helpful aye? Instead of tauntin' that way." She shook her head smiling. "Night ta ye." Abegail let Bridget into the room and then followed, carrying the sword with her.

The women took turns cleaning themselves up, doing the best they could to brush their hair and then settled in for the night. Abegail never let the sword out of her sight. As she settled into bed the sword was with her. Her hand rested on the blade under the covers. Abegail fell into a restless sleep. Dannan warriors fell in battle, giant Fomorians died under the blade. A woman stood at the edge of the battlefield. These things haunted Abegail's dreams. The entire night Abegail woke often and then tried to go back sleep.

In the morning, Abegail slid out of bed, sword in her hand. Dark circles stood out on pale, freckled skin. Bridget looked at Abegail, "Ye look like a banshee. Did ye na get any sleep?" Abegail shook her head and went to the bathroom. Splashing cold water on her face, Abegail looked in the mirror. She had been sleep deprived before, this was something more. With a sigh, Abegail headed out to sit on the bed. Seeing Bridget was ready, "Ye best head for food. I'll stay here. Hard to move around with the sword and I donna want ta leave it. Bring me back some coffee?"

Bridget nodded and headed out in search of the men and coffee.

Walter and Indiana were already sitting in the small living room of the Inn sipping their morning coffee when Bridget entered and ask the keeper for the same. The innkeeper obliged and handed her a cup of steaming coffee. "Oh, I need another cup." The two men briefly gazed toward Bridget before resuming their conversation. After receiving a second cup of java Bridget returned to her and Abigail's room. Suddenly as she rounded the top of the staircase she heard a loud crash from below. Two large and burly Irishmen had kicked in the front door of the small inn and were now standing by Walter and Indy's table. "You be Indiana Jones." One of the men said before laying a punch on Indy's chin. Having been punched in the face so many times the blow had merely caused Indiana to take a step back. Seeing this Walter took several steps back, fully satisfied with letting Indiana take care of the two brutes. "Sorry Indy. I'm not much of a fighter." Indiana turned his toward Walter and smiled slightly before returning the favor of a blow to the Irishman's mans cheek. Indiana had some idea what he was up against when his punch barely made the man flinch. Bridget quickly made her way into the room where Abigail was still sitting on the bed.

Bridget came in the door, coffee in hand. "There's trouble down there." Abegail shook her head, "Indy I assume." Standing she carried the sword with her and headed down the stairs. Silently lamenting the loss of her coffee, Abegail stood at the top of the stairs and looked down at the fighting men.

"Really now, boys it's not the time. Too early and what not." Abegail took two steps down. Sword in front of her now, not threatening yet. "Step away now and take a breather aye? I have na had my coffee yet and yer makin' far too much noise." The men stopped midpunch, looking at the red headed, sword carrying woman. "Indy, I should ha known when you said there was minor run ins here." She sighed. When Walter looked he could see how tired she was but behind it in her eyes was something else. She wasn't quite herself.

In her hands the sword was calling for action, it wanted the men dead. Abegail was using all her willpower to push the call out of her head. "Can we sit, then boys? A coffee or a pint and figure out what Indy here did?" Abegail was at the bottom of the stairs now, sword at the ready.

Having stopped their fight momentarily one of the two large Irishman turned to Abigail, "Well little Miss, this is non your concern. So unless you are prepared to use that little pig sticker there I suggest you return to your room ands let us take care of business." Hearing this Walter immediately turned to Abigail with a 'Now you done it brother' expression on his face, knowing that she was not one to take such talk lightly. Which he secretly admired her for." Walter then turned back to where the men where holding Indiana up to the counter, "So I take it then that this has something to do With some misunderstanding over a business transaction? Well if that's the case we will just pay off Indy's debt, then you two fellas can be on your way." The man who was about to punch Indiana looked at Walter, "No. This is not business, it is personal." The mans answer didn't sit well with Walter as he dreaded contemplating the alternative. "My ex-wife." The man exclaimed, "She and this bloke..." Walter had an idea of what the mans problem with Indiana was without him having to finish that sentence. "Well, as you said. Ex-wife." Walter replied. "And my daughter!" the large man added. "Oh boy. Indiana." Was all Walter could muster as a reply. Walter knew that a misunderstanding, or even downright thievery, when it came to the business of such shadowy individuals could usually be fixed with enough money. But this?

Abegail frowned and stepped closer, "Aye I'll use it iff'n I need ta." Walter spoke up and Abegail's anger grew. "Little miss indeed!" In her hands the sword wanted her to keep moving. She lowered it knowing that it's draw was wearing on her willpower too much.

The men said that Indy had a past with a shared female and Abegail sighed. "Oh Indy? Really now...I missed my coffee for this?" She shook her head. "He's not worth it, boys." Abegail glared at Indy, a hint of teasing in her eyes. "I'm sure she had nothing good to say about him, trust me. Not worth losing sleep over." Abegail smirked. "I'm buying if ye'd rather a drink."

Abegail stepped to the counter, "I need a bottle of whiskey please and a few glasses." The innkeeper frowned but headed off to grab it for her. When he returned, Abegail balanced the glasses, bottle and sword carefully. She placed it on the table. Sitting, sword resting on her leg. "How 'bout it? A shot before ye beat my traveling companion?"

It was the best Abegail could do, short of stabbing the men and it wasn't worth the swords price for Indy's indiscretion. He'd have to get himself out of this. She poured a decent sized glass for herself and toasted the men, waiting to see if they'd turn down a drink.

"Whiskey! You say?" One of the men called out. The brutes expression of his interest in some good whiskey was a welcome break for Indiana, having been use to punching his way out of such situations. Before long all four scholars and their burly companions had taken up seats around a huge and thick wooden table and were in the midst of tying one on. Abigail's icebreaker seemed to have calmed things down considerably as the group talked through their slight stupefaction, complainants of rot-gut whiskey. Abigail and the two Irishmen were hearty drinkers, Indiana followed along quite nicely and aptly. Walter and Bridget on the other hand were a little more subdued, as neither of them had been known for heavy drinkers. As the others shouted and had a good ol' time comparing their hatred for the Nazi scum that had overrun the country Walter and Bridget talked quietly. Abigail would occasionally cast a glance toward her two friends and wonder what they were conspiring about, hoping that they were perhaps getting to know each other better. By the time 4:00AM rolled by the group had dwindled to just Abigail, Indiana and the two large Irishmen. Bridget had retired to her room and Walter was still siting in his chair with his head hanging back and completely out of it.

Abegail was heartened to see Bridget and Walter talking. She was a pretty girl and Walter was handsome in his own right. As the evening went on, she was sad to see Bridget leave to return to the room and Walter remained at the table.

Abegail enjoyed her evening immensely, she hadn't had a breather like this in a long time. Even when she first came home she was so busy trying to simply breathe after what she and Walter had been through that she didn't take any time to really enjoy herself. The sword remained propped against her leg as she, the two big men and Indy worked their way through the bottle.

Eventually, the two men bid her a good night. Indy received a solid whack on the back and assurance that he wasn't half bad. Course, should he cross them again...The threat hung in the air as the men retired. Abegail stood, and gently shook Walter. "Time to go to bed." She smiled down at his groggy eyes. "Why did ye not join Bridget? She's a pretty thing." Abegail stepped back, balancing the sword and reached a hand to help Walter up. Abegail's cheeks were flushed from the whiskey and she was smiling more than Walter had ever seen her smile. "Ye two seemed cozy enough."

Abegail waited for Walter to stand and she leaned heavily on his arm. She giggled a bit watching Indy work his way up the stairs. "Indy, ye need ta keep things a tad more discreet aye? We canna have ye beaten ta a pulp in every place we walk inta." She climbed the stairs slowly.

Walter was completely oblivious as to the hours which had so quickly passed by, Abigail's gentle touch awakened him from a horrible dream for which he was immensely grateful. Walters reaction to Abigail's question regarding Bridget was met with incomprehensible words due to his intoxicated state. "Ah, Bridget. Godd ol' gurl. Whatch out." After a few more seconds Walter came to his senses, "Is the night over all ready?" Walter held out his arm for some assistance with his standing. Once on his feet he began to stagger for the stairs with Abigail's welcomed assistance. Toward the top of the stairs Walter turned to Abigail and told her that he was alright now and that he could make his way to his room by himself. Indiana was already passed out on his bed. Stepping up to his own bed Walter followed suit

Abegail frowned. "Watch out?" She watched the men go into their room. Quietly, sword still in hand, Abegail opened the door to her room. She stifled a giggle thinking how the men couldn't handle their whiskey and happy she was a well trained Irish drinker. Tip toeing in, Abegail headed to the bathroom. Leaving the light off to not wake up Bridget, Abegail closed the door. Only once it was securely closed did she turn the light on.

With a sigh, Abegail washed her face and ran her fingers through her hair. She hoped the boys wouldn't have too much trouble in the morning. Picking up the sword again, Abegail turned out the light and slipped back into the room. A look over her companion asleep in the other bed and she crawled into her own bed. Hoping the nightmares would stay away tonight Abby lie in bed, sword at her side and closed her eyes.

"Oh Shit!" Was all Walter could say upon awakening the next morning, his head throbbed something fierce as he utter those words so often heard from those who have experienced a night of far too much drinking. "Ill never drink again." Just as he said this Indiana came walking out of the bathroom in a somewhat more cheerful mood. "Too much wine and woman huh Walter," Indiana said with smile. "Ah bugger off Indy. You've had far more experience waking up after such an evening." As Indiana got dressed Walter entered the bathroom and took his shower, within a half hour the two men were ready to check up on the ladies in the next room.

Abegail got up in the morning and finding Bridget gone set about getting ready. She opened her door to find the men in the hall. Tilting her head she chuckled. "Walter, ye donna look too bad. How's the head?"

Three moved downstairs, finding Bridget at a table. She had an empty plate and a cup of coffee in front of her. With a nod of welcome the others sat with her. The innkeeper brought the other three coffee and some food. The sausages were greasy and the eggs a little runny. Abegail, sword propped against her leg, eyed Walter as she picked up her toast. A smile played on her lips. He definitely seemed a little worse for wear this morning.

"So, we need to head to the mounds this morning." Abegail took a large drink of her coffee.

"Whatever you think is best Abigail." Walter couldn't think clearly about anything all for the pain in his head. "I think we need to do some prep for their trip. We cant just go traipsing across the countryside with no near plan." Indiana added. Walter gave a nod of agreement before thumbing his head down on the tabletop. "Well if guys trust me to, I can go and secure proper transportation. Something a little less conspicuous perhaps. I sure do not want to be mistaken for a jeep full of Nazi's and get shot at everywhere we go."

Abegail watched the men as she ate her breakfast. Walter seemed the worse of the two. "Poor Walter...should have gone to bed with Bridget." Eating a bite of her eggs, Abegail put her fork down and swallow some more coffee.

"Aye, a plan...we need to get to the cementary. Once we get there we need ta find the mound that might lead us ta the Dannan woman. If we give her back the sword then the only way that Niclas can get it is to take it from her. I am na sure it's the best solution but I canna think of what else ta do with it. Worst case we start a war between the Dannan, Formorians and the nazi's in the cementary." Abegail looked down at her plate. She knew it was not only the worst case but a very real possibility. The mounds were strong tie to the mortal and fae realms. Indy and Walter might not fully believe in this yet but from the look on Bridget's face, she too knew that Abby was holding back just how dangerous this could get.

Abegail smiled up at the men, "So aye, we need a vehicle and Walter needs a new head me thinks." She chuckled and took another drink of coffee. The younger woman looked at Abegail. Abby met her eyes and slightly shook her head. Now was not the time.

"Oh brother, not more mounds!" Walter spoke with his face resting on the tabletop, the words coming out slightly muffled. The others smirked at his humorous tone. Indiana immediately got up from his chair and walked out of the inn to begin his search for some proper transportation. The others didn't bother asking Indy how he was going to secure this vehicle, hopefully without provoking a mob of angry villagers. While Indy was away Walter jumped into the shower a second time and upon returning to the dinning room quickly consumed several more cups of coffee, within the space of an hour he was feeling a lot better. By the time Indy returned he was all ready to start the next leg of their journey.

Abegail barely contained her laugh at Walter's statement. "Aye, more mounds." She finished up her breakfast and sat sipping her coffee as Indy left and Walter went to shower. With the men gone, Abby turned to Bridget.

"Ye canna say anythin' right now. War between them is a very real thing, I know but if we can draw Niclas to us with the other pieces then maybe while they are all fightin' we can steal the rest and hide them or destroy them."

Bridget frowned at the idea of destroying the spear, armour and what was left of the stone. "I donna like it bu I donna see what else we can do but go to the mounds and see what happens." Bridget pushed her plate away. "Can I ask ye somethin'?"

Abegail looked at the younger woman. "Aye." She was wary now, as she saw the look on the younger woman's face. Bridget leaned on the table, "Ye look like death warmed over. I can see it even if they won't say nothin' ta ye. Are you alright? It's the sword isn't it?"

Abegail sat a little straighter, then cast her eyes to the table. "Aye. It's takin' a lot of my willpower ta keep the thing from making me attack someone. If I hurt someone it will drain more of me until by the end of a fight there might not be anythin' left. For a warrior, the sword's effects would take many battles but I'm not a warrior. I'll be fine, we just need ta get this thing to the mounds and keep it out of Niclas' hands."

Abegail went back to her coffee and Bridget couldn't say anything more as Walter rejoined them at the table. The three took care of the inn bill and met Indy outside. Climbing in the four headed to the cementary and the mounds.

Walter looked at Indiana, "I don't think I want to know where you got this vehicle from Indy." Turning to Walter Indiana gave his patented devilish smirk. "No. You certainly do not." Indiana smiled and then began to laugh, the others joined in, relieving some of the tension that everyone was experiencing. After an hour of driving they had come to the end of the main road and were now traveling on the rough country roads which can be found all throughout the more sparsely populated parts of Ireland. Indiana was driving the small pickup with Abigail giving him precise directions to the mounds near the graveyard. By the time they parked the vehicle and got out to inspect the area all four scholar's were fully recovered from that nights revelry at the Inn. Free from the intervention of the Irish mob, which they had managed to befriend, to a degree, the only thing they had to worry about now were the Nazi's. During the drive there Abigail had informed the rest of them as to her plan to somehow get Niclas to bring the other items together, with the intent to destroy them. Fate was apparently on their side as they noticed the camp that the Nazi's had set up around the mounds on the left side of the cemetery.

Abegail frowned as they pulled in a quietly parked. Niclas was already here. This was not good. Abegail took the sword and slid out. Her mind was working on what the best solution might be at this point. She didn't know what mound the woman might be in or even if she would be there. Abegail hoped that if they could find a door, they could call her forward.

Frankly, Abegail wasn't sure if any of this was even going to work. She was tired. The sword was draining her energy and taking all her willpower. Her face had gotten paler on the ride and while her spirit was happy and relaxed, Abegail was begining to look drawn. She walked to stand by Walter. Without realizing it she leaned heavily on his arm.

"Alright, we need to find a way to get them out of the tent so we can have at the other pieces, assumin' he brought them. We need to find a mound with access to the Dannan and hope to hell that if we can call her forth she is willin' to help unlike the male..." Walter could feel that right now, he was the only thing keeping Abegail's legs from giving out.

Abegail took a deep breath, "The sword knows...it senses a fight comin'" With that Abegail stood, relieving Walter of her weight and walked quietly closer to the nearest mound. "So what are we gonna do ta get them to go away from the tent? We need them chasin' somethin' through the mounds or at least on the grounds. Unless we have another idea, preferably one that does na involve driving our vehicle into their tent." Abegail smiled at Indy.

Judging by the way the Nazi's had set up camp the four intruders could tell that they were not overly concerned about possible interference with their duties from outside parties, with only two tents, no artilary and no apparent air support and with a mere handful of soldiers. As the four scholar's looked around the sparse encampment they noticed that there were five mounds of varying size strewn across a field roughly half the size of a football field. There was very little doubt as to which of these mounds was the correct one, for only one of the mounds had an army tent setup directly beside it. This particular mound was several hundred feet away from where Walter, Abigial and the others had hidden themselves. It seemed a logical assumption, though they obviously had no way of telling if this mound was indeed the one that they were looking for, the sudden appearance of Niclas from out of the tent however, did much to affirm their suspicions. Of all the mounds scattered about the field only two of them were in close proximity to one another, the mound of interest and the smaller mound a few yards behind and to the left of the first. Turning to Abigail with an expression of sudden realization displayed upon his face Walter spoke, "Abigail, do you think that its possible for there to be a series of interconnecting tunnels going between at least a few of those mounds?" The stress of carrying the sword shown itself on Abigail's body as she turned to answer Walter.

"Aye, there is a very real chance that they might connect." Abegail pointed at the two mounds that sat close together. "Those two likely have a connection but there is a chance that even one of the others connects in."

Abegail pondered the idea for a moment. "We will have to be careful, there is a chance that there are others in the mounds as well and not just soldiers. What are ye thinkin' Walter? Head in one and see if we can get into the big one? Niclas is obviously interested in it and that canna be a good thing."

Abegail sighed and tried to stand taller. A weak smile crossed her face. Bridget didn't know the woman well but she was struck at how much Abegail seemed to have lost some of her fire that she had when they started. Indy glanced at Walter. The two men knew that something was no right with Abby. The red head was stubborn, out spoken, quick to act and at times a force to be reckoned with. The Abegail in front of them looked tired and was quiet. Indy moved over to Walter. Abegail was looking over to the tents, an eye on Niclas.

Indy leaned over to Walter, "You see that right? Abbs isn't right. She looks like she might collapse on us. We shouldn't have brought her along." As Walter answered Indy, Abegail turned back to look at him, wondering why she hadn't received an answer yet and found both men staring at her and Bridget casting her eyes down, as if guilty of something.

Abegail frowned, "What are ye starin' at?" Her voice contained a bit of the Irish temper but no where near her normal.

"Well, one thing is obviously clear. We need to get that sword to its owner and relieve Abigail of its harmful influence. Turning away from his colleagues and back to the tent, "I say we wait till the sun goes down a bit, and then sneak around to the back of that small mound behind the base-tent." Walter turned once again to face his friends and watched as they nodded their approval of his plan. "We will also put Abigail's suggestion to work. A distraction of some sort to lure the soldiers away from the main mound, and hopefully Niclas along with them." Just as Walter had spoken his name Niclas turned to look in the general direction of the four scholars, a collective chill ran up Walter and Abigail's spine. To say that they despised the man was a vast understatement, neither Walter nor Abigail would have any reservations about admitting that they wished Niclas dead.

Abegail liked the idea but was wary now of the way they were staring at her. Walter mentioned his name and Abegail saw Niclas turn to look in their direction. Abegail felt the bile move into her throat. That man made her stomach ill and her blood boil.

Abegail leaned against the mound and slid till she was sitting on the ground, the sword leaning against her shoulder. They would wait until dark. She didn't suggest being the distraction knowing that if she even attempted to the sword would win and she'd likely kill someone. Abegail closed her eyes and rested her head back on the grass of the mound. "What are ye thinkin' for a distraction?"

Thinking for a moment Walter answered Abigail's question concerning a proper distraction, "Well, I think that the simplest distraction would do the job. We will sneak up to the smaller mound, out of the view of Niclas and the soldiers still within the tent. One of us will then run out from the cover of the mound, this should at least give the rest of us enough time to enter the mound. The only problem that I can foresee has to do with Niclas, if he sees one of us jump out from the shadows, he will know that the others are attempting to enter the mound." Looking back toward the mounds Walter continued, "I cant see from this distance, but Id imagine Niclas has the entrance to the larger mound sealed off. That is why I asked about the possibility of a tunnel system beneath the various mounds." The four scholars nodded to one another in acceptance of the plan and proceeded to make their way to the smaller mound to the left of the main. Being extremely careful they began to maneuver their way toward the two mounds, at times even taking to the ground and slithering like snakes through the dust. The last few feet were easier, allowing the four scholars to get to their feet again to complete their stealthy journey, Walter stopped as he came upon a crate marked 'explosives,' Abigail and Bridget entered the small mound. Walter and Indiana now stood within the dark cover of the overhanging earth and grass which formed the rim of the mound, "Okay Indiana." Knowing what Walter was getting at Indy leaped from the darkness and ran to the front of the main mound. With a stick of Dynamite clutched tightly in his hand Indiana ran directly in front of Niclas. Needless to say, Niclas was sufficiently surprised.

Abegail moved with the others. She was slower when they crawled due to the sword but she managed to keep up. Entering the small mound with Bridget, Abegial's eyes adjusted to the dark. Something was near by, the sword could feel it. Abegail began moving quickly, and Bridget fell behind not knowing where the woman had gone. Bridget began to search frantically in the dim light but there was no sign of Abegail. She waited for Walter so that they could continue with the plan to move to the large mound.

Abegail had followed her gut. Everything told her to turn to the right and walk. So, she did. She walked, and walked. The corridors twisted and turned. About half way she realized Bridget and the others were no longer with her. The walls became damp and Abegail stopped for a moment. Looking around she gauged the distance to be close to where the large mound was. She was correct as she stepped out of a crevice n the wall into another corridor. To her left sat the large main chamber of the mound. Abegail shook her head. What she needed was not there. Right again. The smaller corridor became darker and Abegail's heart pounded in her chest.

A soft voice called to her in Gaelic. Abegail followed the voice.

As Walter and Bridget made their way from the small mound into the large mound there was no sign of Abegail, save the occsasional footprint in the dirt. Indy's distraction outside managed to give Walter and Bridget enough time to find the adjoining corridor and turning to their left found themselves in the centre and main chamber of the large mound. The walls had carving and paintings depicting the Dannan and some of their finest warriors.

Meanwhile, Abegail found the woman. She sat on a stone bench, her beauty could only be called ethereal. Abegail moved to sit with her and the two sat and talked as if chatting over tea and not discussing the fate of mankind.

The instant Indiana stepped out in front of the main tent Niclas called for two of his soldiers to subdue the professor. Turning on his heels Indy ran toward the trucks that were parked just off to the right of the big gray army tent. Two soldiers with rifles came rushing out of the tent, one of them was held up slightly as his weapon became entangled in the mesh-layer of the door flap. This fortunate turn of events enabled Indy to take care of the one soldier more easily, the first man receiving some harsh comments from Niclas as to the soldiers incompetence. Indy forced his way between one of the larger mounds and the armored vehicle parked tightly against it. Once he was behind the mound and out of sight of the approaching SS officer Indiana proceeded to climb the mound, finally settling upon its top. Indy laid there on his stomach and waited for the officer to take the same route between the truck and the mound. The soldier carefully maneuvered around the mound and truck, eventually stopping in back of the mound upon which Indiana had positioned himself. Now free to get up on his knees and then in a crouched position, Indy waited for the officer to move slightly closer. Seizing the opportunity Indy jumped from the height of the mound and came crashing down upon the gun-bearing soldier. The SS man was out cold as Indy began to drag him to the vehicle, once there Indy crammed the man underneath the truck in order to hide the unconscious soldier. Indiana then heard the sound of someone approaching the mound from the right side, deciding to ambush the predator by going around to the left side of the mound. With the task successful Indy attacked the soldier, Indy and the young officer were now engagged in fisticuffs. Niclas growing increasingly impatient, decided that he would deal with this matter personally. Walter and Bridget were still lost within the labyrinth.

As Walter and Bridget wandered, eventually coming upon the main chamber of the large mound and Indy led the soldiers on a chase, Abegail sat in conversation with the Dannan woman. Abegail explained that a great evil had taken the other pieces and now wanted the sword to complete their work. That mankind would be doomed it they succeeded. The woman sat, face a mask that belied no emotion. Abegail's heart sank. This woman like the man who was in league with Niclas would not help. Then the woman asked her a question that startled Abegail.

As Abegail carefully answered, Indy was fighting the soldier. Bridget and Walter came in the chamber, finding Niclas had set up the other pieces. No one guarded it, as Walter had assumed Niclas had sealed the mound. When he procurred the sword, he would come down here, don the pieces and become the warrior. Nothing would stop him at that point. There in front of them lay the armour, the spear and a few large pieces of the stone. As the two stepped into the room, the tall and slim Dannan man stepped out from some unknown shadows.

His dark eyes looked at them, as if questioning what they would do next.

In another mound, a distance back in the cementary another stirred. This one was giant and grotesque. The Formorian knew all the pieces had come together. He did not know if the Dannan planned to wipe them out now in their entirity or if another event was occuring but he did know that he could not allow the warrior to be born again. It would be death for all who lay in his path. And so he stood and made his way to the Dannan mound, ready to defend his people if need be.

Abegail and the woman had come to some sort of understanding. The two stood and Abegail, sword still in hand followed her into the darkness.

Niclas was just about to go after Indiana when he noticed the glowing of the rock fragment in his front trouser pocket, at that point he knew that someone was attempting to remove the other pieces of the stone of destiny from the cavern. At the top of his lungs he screamed out, "Rise, aufzustehen. Zu den Waffen." (Rise, get up. To arms.) at which point the six officers who had been resting in the main tent came to attention, outside the tent Niclas came closer. Niclas sent three of the soldiers into the smaller mound and the others, along with himself, entered the larger of the two earthen domes. The giant from the far off mound was quickly approaching the chamber, as it traveled through another series of tunnels which lay even further beneath the ground surrounding the region. As Walter and the others endeavored to move the pieces of the stone and the other items out of the main cavern they heard a faint booming sound, which appeared to be creeping its way toward their location.

The Formorian man made his way to the large mound. Inside the mound, Walter and Bridget were in a bit of a stalemate with the Dannan man, although Bridget had picked up a few pieces of the stone.

Bridget whispered to Walter, "What are we gonna do?" Her eyes never left the Dannan man. "We need to remove all the pieces I think. Destroy them?" The faint booming noise that she thought she was imagining was very real and getting louder.

Meanwhile, time stood still for Abegail. Carrying the sword she followed the ethereal woman. The woman was telling her of the battle that took the original warrior of Erin. Abegail came to understand that if one piece was utterly destroyed then the rest could not be joined together. Out of all the pieces, the sword was the most powerful, for even without the rest it was capable of making the wielder faster and stronger then any warrior. It would need to be destroyed. The woman told Abegail that as the current posessor of the sword only she could destroy it.

The two women stopped in a dark room. In front of Abegail stood a large mirror. In the reflection she didn't see herself but her companions in the main chamber. Walter and Bridget stood together. Bridget was holding a few pieces of the stone. The Dannan man was with them and Abegail could see the giant figure that was stepping out of the darkness behind them. At the entrance of the room, soldiers began coming in, weapons drawn and behind them stood Niclas.

Abegail looked at the woman for a moment. The woman had explained what was needed to destroy the sword, now Abegail just had to watch for the right moment. She held her breath and watched in the mirror again.

"Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place." Walter thought to himself as he watched the three SS officers and Niclas himself walk out of the cavern entrance. The tight feeling of unease solidified by the presence of something large and all too familiar approaching from behind. Not being equipped with eyes in the back of his head Walter took his cues from the look which appeared on the Dannan mans face in that moment. Utilizing this as a means to clarify his suspicion of the monstrous presence now standing directly behind him. The creature still shrouded in shadow breathed heavily as Walter looked around the room to asses the danger and any possible means of avoiding harm for he and Bridget. The best option, Walter thought, would be to simply let nature run its course. Here they had bitter enemies with the Formorian and Dannan and those who's sole desire was to misuse and benefit from their long standing feud, which the two races took with all seriousness. Therefore it seemed as though the only logical option is to somehow remove themselves from the situation all together.

The hostility between the two ancient races was long and standing and the Nazi's hatred for those who they deemed undesirable and different, came to the boiling point within that relatively small space. Sensing this Walter grabbed Bridget by the upper arm and dragged her off to the right side of the cavern, enabling the aggressors to freely battle one another. Niclas himself had quickly assessed the situation, seeing the two scholars back off he too would separate himself from the scene, backing away from the three SS officers and vanishing into the darkness of the tunnel. The silence of the emotionally charged situation broke when the Formorian poked its head from the shadows and into sight of the SS officers, its grotesque features and barbarous war cry frightened them into firing their weapons prematurely. Walter, Bridget and even Niclas were astonished and horrified by what came as a result of this call to battle. They would be the first to witness the class between the old ways of legend and the modern machine age.

The Formorian was much too massive to be agile and although it was a thing of lore and magic, it was not protected from the mechanical wizardry known as munitions. Even though they feared the beastly thing now laying bloodied and dying upon the cold and hard cavern floor, Walter and Bridget felt immense sympathy for its death. No sooner had the creature hit the ground, the Dannan man shot into action. With a speed incomprehensible to the sight and senses of human experience, it produced two long thin blades which it then used to sever the hands of the SS officers. Owing to their magical origins the cuts from the two blades were clean and instantaneously cauterized, with no blood loss whatsoever.

Abegail watched the Formorian fall and the Dannan man spring into action. With a great inhale she stepped through the mirror. It was cold as she passed through. Stepping onto the other side she found herself in the main chamber of the mound. In front of her, the Dannan man was attacking the soliders. To her left stood Bridget and Walter and her right lay the body of the giant.

Bending, Abegail dipped her hand in the Formorian's blood. "The blood of the enemy" She wrapped the hand around the hilt of the sword, the blood making it slick. "On the weapon of our warrior, wielded by a child of Erin....to kill one of our own."

With that statement on her lips Abegail took one step closer to the Dannan man. In that moment she allowed the sword's power free reign. Abegail's eyes flashed as the blade came out at the man. He turned to look at her as the blade pierced his body. He reaction was slow as the red-haired woman sunk the blade deep. Pulling it out quickly, Abegail spun and bringing the blade around it bit deep into his body.

Walter and Bridget could see that it was the sword had control now, giving Abegail the ability to fight. The Dannan man slumped to the ground.

Abegail stood over him, chest heaving as she struggled to breathe. In her hands, the blood of the Dannan man ran on the sword mixing with the blood of the Formorian. The sword began to crumble, turning to dust.

As the blade fell away Abegail felt the last pull of the sword as it exacted it price from her. Walter and Bridget watched as Abegail's knees gave out and she dropped to the ground. Beside him, Walter could hear Bridget stifle a cry. Her hands were at her mouth.

The moans of the soldiers, not quite dead were the only sounds in the mound. Bridget looked at Walter, clearly she wanted to move to where Abegail lie but she was too scared to. "Is she...?" Her wide eyes looked at him.

Walter and Bridget were caught off guard by the sudden appearance of Abigail from out of thin air and the subsequent killing of the Dannan man. The feeling of accomplishment in dealing with their enemies was soon obliterated as Abigail collapsed to the floor of the cavern. The sword was no more, turned to dust, it seems as though neither side will be able to claim it now. Just then Indiana came rushing into the chamber, seeing Abigail laying motionless upon the ground he rushed to her side. Tears began to well up in Bridget's eyes and Walter was near a breakdown. Relief came swiftly when Indy raised his head, "She's alive." Walter and Bridget sighed in unison at the announcement. Feeling the need to be close to their colleagues Walter and Bridget stepped toward Abigail and Indiana, as Abigail rolled onto her back. Walter knelt beside Abigail as Bridget, still standing, gazed down at her wounded friend. Suddenly a figure appeared from out of the tunnel to the right of the four scholars, it was Niclas. Without a word of warning he reached into the left pocket of his trench coat and pulled from it his automatic pistol. At that very instant Walter happened to turn his head, "Bridget watch out!"

Abegail slowly regained conciousness. She rolled onto her back slowly. Her eyes opened. She realized both Indy and Walter were beside her. Looking up she saw Bridget standing. Abegail gave them all a weak smile. Before she could say anything Walter yelled for Bridget.

The girl turned to look but it was too late. Niclas fired and Bridget made a noise as she hit the ground behind Walter. Abegail was jolted by the shot and the girl falling. "No! No!" Abegail mind was yelling even as no sound would issue from her mouth. She crawled to where Brdget lay. She rolled the girl and found the gunshot. "Stop him, get help...do something." Abegail's voice was hoarse as she pressed on the wound. Blood seeped from under her hands.

Niclas was an excellent shot. Abegail's eyes were blurred with tears as she desperately tried to ignore the slowing of the heartbeat under her hands. "No, Bridget...someone...." Her tears fell as she held the wound tightly.

Walter and Indiana were both stone faced as they witnessed the final moments of Bridget's short life. They were still kneeling in the same position as when Abigail herself had fallen to the dusty floor. Walter turned on his feet and then pulled the gun from the holster attached to Indiana's belt, with the weapon in hand Walter rushed after Niclas. "Stay with her, do what you can." The determination blazing in Walters eyes told the other scholars that he would not be back until Niclas was dead. Niclas had retreated into the safety of the pitch black passageway, with Walter following closely behind. This would be the last time, for a long time afterward that Abigail and Indiana would see Walter Miller.

Indy placed a hand on Abegail's shoulder. Under her hands the heartbeat of the young Irish woman had stopped but Abegail couldn't bring herself to move them yet. She didn't even realize Walter was gone. Indy grabbed Abegail's shoulders and stood her up slowly. He was quiet, none of his usual mirth or cockiness now. With Abby out of the way he scooped up Bridget's body and began leading them out of the mound.

Abegail followed, slowly, wiping her eyes as she moved. Behind her the bodies of the Dannan man and the Formorian giant crumbled into nothingness much like the sword had. Abegail looked around. "Where's Walter?" Her voice was fearful as she realized the other man was not with them.

Indy cleared his throat, "He's gone to take care of that nazi." Abegail shook her head, "Alone? Niclas will kill him..." She couldn't get past Indy as he carried the body in his arms. Abegail herself was close to collapsing, her body exhausted from carrying the sword for so long and the reprecussions of using it. Indy exited the mound and stepped foot on the grass of the cementary.

There had been no sign of Walter in the dark corridor, no sound of gunshots yet. Abegail stepped out. Dusk was beginning to fall, the sun setting in the distance. Indy lay Bridget's body down on the grass and turned to look at Abegail. "Are you hurt at all?" Abegail waved him away as she scanned the cementary for Walter or Niclas. As she turned that is when Indy saw it. A streak of white hair now ran through Abby's red locks. One streak down the middle of the left side of her head.

Indy frowned but didn't say anything. He too began looking for some sign of the other scholar. Abegail's voice was angry, her worry hidden behind it, "Damn him, does he have na sense at all?"

Indy loaded Bridget's lifeless body into the back of one of the trucks and then with Abigail in the passengers seat he positioned himself in the drivers spot. Looking around one last time for any signs of Walter's whereabouts, the two remaining scholars saw only the fleeting signs of dust which had been kicked up from the wheels of the two trucks driven by Walter and Niclas. Indiana cast a final look at Abigail before starting the vehicle and pressing on the accelerator. Without saying a single word to one another the two scholars drove off, leaving their friend and colleague Walter Miller to hunt down Niclas Elberich on his own.

Abegail climbed in and stared out the window the entire trip, hoping for some sign of Walter. Indy and Abegail took Bridget's body to the hospital. There the plice became involved and Abegail was admitted. For four days, she remained in the hospital being treated for exhaustion and dehydration. Indy was questioned by police and finally on the fourth day the two scholars returned to Abegail and Bridget's hometown.

The previous day, Bridget's body had been sent back there to her parents. The next day would be the funeral for the young woman. That evening Abegail, still not looking quite herself and Indy sat in the cleaned up and repaired home of Abegail's parents. The mood was quiet and somber as the two sat in the sitting room, sipping tea. Neither could bring themselves to speak aloud their fear for Walter.

The next morning, the clouds refused to fully part and allow the struggling sun to break through as if they knew no one in the little town wanted to bask in it's warmth. Abegail's parents and most of the town gathered in the small community cementary. A simple casket sat next to the open grave, flowers adorning it's cover. To the back and on the right hand side, where they could clearly see the coffin and simple gravestone, Abegail and Indy stood. Indy was holding Abegail's hand as the two watched the mourners speak about the vibrant, stubborn woman.

Tears dropped from Abegail's eyes. Bridget was gone, shot by a man Abby hated. A man who on more than one occassion almost ended her life. She barely knew the girl but for the short time she had, she liked her. Abegail's tears were also for Walter. They had a shaky start that first meeting at Marshall. It seemed so long ago now. Walter and Abegail had been through quite a bit togehter and now he was gone. Not a trace or word from him in days. Abegail mourned both her friends.

By the grave, they were slowly lowering the coffin into the ground. There were women openly weeping. Abegail shivered and Indy wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "It will be all right Abby." He did his best to sound comforting. Abegail nodded. The pair waited until most of the others had bid farewell to the woman and left the cementary. They made their way to stand at the edge of the grave. Abegail looked down at the coffin.

"Oh Bridget, I'm so sorry. It should have been me he shot. He had no business..." Abegail's words choked in her throat.
