Introduction
Verdanus, a planet so named long ago for its verdant forests and beautiful natural landscapes, the spawning pool of humanity, has succumbed to the various technological revolutions. Within the memorable past there were still sprawling plains and untamed wilderness. Now there are cities, factories, space ports. The entire planet has quickly grown into an interconnected metropolis, all thanks to the abundant resources of Verdanus's sister planet, Tertius. The larger red neighbor is a gravitationally bound planet that, while scarce of life, has plenty of ores and minerals readily available. It's surface has been vegetated and divided into colonies, each belonging to one arm or another of the Consulate, the ruling body over both planets, based on the Verdan homeworld. The colonies span almost as nations, growing various algae to supply food to both worlds, mining the metals that grow the Verdan cityscapes and build the Verdan ships, and succumbing to the strict trade schedules that keep the Tertian workers at bay.
All is not well: every one of the regularly scheduled Verdan ships has been grounded on Tertius. The various colonies have proclaimed themselves nations. Verdanus is starving and defenseless, while Tertius is in chaos. And these events have occurred in only this past week. While the Consulate scrambles to reclaim their quarry, the newly formed nations of Tertius struggle to choose a side in the crisis. A conference of ambassadors meets now in Koagrad, as some nations claim sovereignty for themselves and their planet, while others vacillate between neutrality and the choice to succumb to their mother-world: without Verdanus they lack all of the modernizations and advancements made in the last century. The Brotherhood, a secret society known only by its tree-like hierarchy, is at least responsible for the grounding of the transport ships. Similarly, an ambassador of a neutral country has been assassinated and impersonated - although that plot is not yet privy to anyone actually meeting for the Koagrad Peace Talks.
What's more, is that the Tertians involved in this sudden revolutions are coming out of a daze - they were miners, engineers, technicians, and have no idea why they suddenly became revolutionaries, governors, ambassadors. However, now that their lives have been turned upside down, they are reluctant to drop everything and return to the old way of life - and none are sure whether that is even possible. The inertia of the events from past few days is carrying everything forward - but to what end?
What role will you play in this epic conflict? Do your loyalties lie with the Verdan Consulate, the Brotherhood, a Tertian nation, or do you freelance, pirate, or profit now that the times are changing? Help unravel the plot and create the aftermath!
Good luck!

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 5 authors
Jorm began to look not at the people, but past them. Past the suits, the robes, the dresses, the seats, the walls...Jorm was looking farther. Anyone in the room could feel how heavy he said the last sentence. There was something behind it. Reiko was the emotion behind it though, and that story would come at a much later time. Jorm ushered to his aide and guard and left the room abruptly, not making eye contact with anybody else. He returned to his car, taking out his earbud and placing it into his ear, and started listening to the small talk in the room. He'd placed a microphone on his desk that was strong enough to pick up any voice in the room where the Peace Talks were being held.
"What is the state of our military?" Gregor demanded of a nearby officer.
"We count at least 60,000 soldiers as 'regulars' in our army," the soldier reported as he snapped to salute. "In addition, 50 tanks have been seized or produced, as well as 30 aircraft. Weapons and vehicles are currently being produced. By our intelligence, Eurova has the most powerful military, numerically and technologically, on Tertius. Far more advanced than any other nation's."
"Good..." Selvaria's eyes focused keenly on the troops. "Eurova will be a vital aspect of Jorm's plan, in that case."
"Should Jorm's plan actually pass," Gregor reminded her with a smirk. "And if it does not, then we may actually have to work. We will initiate our plan..."

"I'm leaving," Antony replied.
"But they haven't had a ruling yet," The Prefect muttered.
"Yes they have," Antony said. "Its clear what the decision will be. Pretenna said it just a minute ago, nothing. I'm leaving, and I don't just mean I'm going home I actually mean I'm leaving. The planet."
The Prefect was taken aback by this, "...Why?"
"Because I'm going to Tertius," Antony said. "I'm going to use my finger as a gun and hopefully convince the rebels that I have a fleet of Consulate murderers following me."
"You know leaving like this is illegal, don't you?" The Prefect said.
"Only if I loose, in which case Ill be dead anyway," Antony chuckled, before pushing his way out the doors.
OOC: I meant to put the Consulate as my location, sorry.

"Yes, I'm sure that war is the answer. You know as well as anyone that i'm deathly..", Jorm chuckled nervously, "..terrified of war, but I see no other way. I simply was hoping to inspire some creativity in how exactly we would go about it. I wanted a quick solution with as little bloodshed as possible, and.." Jorm now looked at his advisor, "I still do. If you think of anything, please let me know. I need help in this."
"Yes, Jorm. Of course! I'd love nothing more than to contribute."
Jorm snapped his fingers in the air, "Ah, yes. There is another favor I would wish of you. I need you to contact the Ambassador of Eurova...Selvaria, her name was? She was a good-looking women. Beyond that though..she had charisma. She had a personality. She also seemed to side with my plan. We need to contact her..Ask of her to meet me for lunch sometime, would you? I need to speak with her in detail. I'm not too concerned with some of the others at the Peace Talks." He said, and disappeared beyond his personal suite. Reiko had personally payed off 3 ambassadors to agree with whatever he said. Some of the others might need some coercing but he hoped that his plan seemed appealing enough that he wouldn't have to do that.
"What?" Selvaria demanded harshly of the soldier who had just run up to her holding a device, covering the mouthpiece so nothing could be heard. "A call? What do they want and who are they?"
"The aide of an ambassador Jorm...Jorm requests a meeting with you for lunch."
"Feh. I have not such time, and anyway, I have already met this Jorm, whom Berthold has not yet had the pleasure to meet..."
"Has something come up?" the derisive voice of Major General Berthold Gregor announced his arrival. "Who am I meeting, or rather, Selvaria should be meeting?"
Gregor stalked out of the shadows, leaning heavily on his scepter like cane.
"Ambassador Jorm desires a meeting with Major General Lorien, sir," the soldier said, with a bit of irritation. He was a 'Lorienist'--that is, he sided with Lorien's military faction, as opposed to Gregor's.
"I can go in her stead," Gregor said, sweeping the phone from the soldier with surprising agility for one of his age. "She has been handling too many foreign affairs anyway."
He spoke now into the mouthpiece.
"Hello...no, this is Major General Berthold Gregor, her comrade. Selvaria is unable to attend this meeting. I can go in her stead. Name a place and time."

"Set us planetward, but keep us in Tertian shadow. I want to find out what is going on before we are to be assigned to new objectives."
Horman Cambo assented and complied. He was dumbfounded, but perhaps so was the captain. Horman would probably have swung to get a line of sight beam to Verdanus to contact central, but the captain seemed always to think ahead. It was an irregular lesson, to learn to avoid one's superiors when pursuing one's own aspirations, but Horman was glad to accept it - space communications were not nearly as exciting as he had once imagined.
"C-c-captain, what d-do you think we'll d-discover?"
"Officer Cambo, what did you study at Uni planetside? Well I studied social cataclysms."
Horman considered answering the question - he had studied the conversion of speech into thoughts and emotions, but doubted that the captain really wanted a response. This was a fair assessment.
"I think that communications with us are neglected because... But that's just paranoia. We'll see on Tertius."
The setting changes from A near-space, space-age, human solar system. to Tertius
The ship was too bulky and was left in orbit. The captain descended in an exploratory lander, with Horman Cambo along. The hatch opened and their air rushed out into the thin atmosphere. Horman, somewhat incredulous to the situation and thus unaware of this coming change, tried to take slow deep breaths.
"Breathe faster Cambo, hyperventilate. It's like climbing a mountain."
They had maneuvered to land into what the captain suggested to be a permanent shade, such that they would not be detected. Horman remarked on this objective to stop thinking about the somewhat painful breathing regimen.
"S-sir, but wouldn't the ship, an-and our l-lander b-be detected? On a r-regular scan?"
The captain considered.
"We've had hours to be detected and apprehended. I think the comm tower is simply not manned. Let's get moving."
"S-s-simply, sir? I w-wish we had a sq-sqaud with us..."
The captain eyed him, then produced a device.
"Speaking of Cambo, here's a beamer. Just in case."
They moved toward the mining complex.
Selvaria turned to look down at the two soldiers.
"Of what type?"
"Well, the radar stations aren't in the best condition, so we couldn't really identify it...its signal didn't seem to be Eurovan, however."
Selvaria grunted. "It couldn't be Eurovan anyway."
"What shall we do?"
"Send three squads of soldiers and two tanks to check it out on the ground. Have a squad of aircraft view the situation from the air. At the first sign of hostilities, annihilate the lander and anyone in it."
"Yes si...ma'am," the soldier corrected, quailing under Selvaria's demonic glare. "The squads will be out immediately."
He took off with great speed, eager to carry out the Lieutenant General's orders.
Selvaria turned back to her paperwork.
So...could this be what we were waiting for? Could this lander be of Verdan origins?
A message was sent to all other nations, informing them of the situation.
Meanwhile, the Eurovan forces were approaching the lander...
Meanwhile, Jorm was on the phone with three other ambassadors, confirming his arrangement with them, nodding with relief that they had kept th their agreement to vote for his proposition. After this, he waved off his aide that was on the phone and gestured he would be going to his personal quarters, not to be disturbed. He closed the doors tightly and locked them behind him.
"Whew.." Reiko breathed with relief. He shed off all his ambassador attire and stretched promptly afterwards, happy to be out of that thick garb. "So that's why politicians are always so messed up, their mind is already fried from the clothing they wear." He closed all his curtains and got himself a shower ready. Beforehand he walked to his sink and splashed some water on his face, staring at himself in the mirror.
"I love you, mother..."
"Is everyone ready..? I know this is scary, and nobody wants to do it..but please. We mustn't forget that passion in our hearts! We've got to help this civil war on Tertius. We must also not forget where we came from, Verdanus. The man in here is from Verdanus, and was imprisoned for no good reason. We've got to help him enjoy the freedom we currently have. Come on!" He said in a low, but strong, and fiery voice. The six men around him grinned and brought their arms and fists to a level that seemed as if they were blocking with a shield. That was their signal.
A few hours later, Gregor arrived at Koagrad, and made his way to the restaurant called 'The Seashell'. Gregor, of course, wouldn't be eating. He also felt quite safe--he had a pistol well concealed in his coat, and the walking stick he leaned on had a blade concealed in it as well. For now, he awaited Jorm and his delegation.
"Hmm hmm hmm." He mused, picking up the suitcase behind him and looking at his watch. He rose from the wall, turning into an alleyway. There the back door to the kitchens and the power box sat. As promised, it was left unscrewed, so he easily lifted the lid, and fixed a few wires to a small device. Replacing the lid, he picked up the suitcase and tipped the hat forward on his head, exiting the alleyway and making a left.
Moments later, the powerbox gave off a few sparks, and the lights within the Seashell began winking out. However, the behavior would seem a bit different. Slowly, it began blinking on and off in a simple morse code. "G.R.E.G.O.R."
"G.R.E.G.O.R." the lights winked again.
"B.R.U.T.U.S."
The lights went out, staying that way.

And the rules are:
This roleplay is meant to read more like a science fiction novel than the average one-character-each roleplay.
0) The plot is more important than any character.
1) Write no more than 1024 characters per post: no more than ~ one paperback page at a time.
2) Make every detail count - don't fluff it up, but do make it sound interesting.
3) Any character that appears in the Characters tab is reserved by that player.
4) Any character NOT reserved is then free reign to roleplay as anyone wants.
5) Avoid contradictions, and correct them if you are made aware of them.
6) Spelling and grammar make everyone happy.
7) Talk things out with others over PM or in OOC when involving their characters.
Very few details have been set into place. Very few characters have been named. You, the players, are responsible for filling in the gaps. Take the time to read through everything in the Activity tab before you submit a character or add your own reply - updates are frequent, storylines are many, and the plot thickens every day!
If things don't make too much sense, please as questions :D
Also, the Activity tab does not send out notifications of updates to players, so its up to you guys to check it as frequently as you intend to post. I post approximately once a day.
Re: [OOC] Verdanus and Tertius: War of the World
Never mind. That was stupid of me. xD I thought you were referring to the Places tab.
Re: [OOC] Verdanus and Tertius: War of the World
Just click the Activity tab to read through everything that has happened so far - mostly my own "episodes" from both a while back and recently, as well as Shazeio7's post. Then click the Reply to this roleplay >> link and write out your post, and pick a location from the dropdown with "Where?" next to it.

Beam technology can either be bulkier than projectile guns, or it can be more compact. It depends on how you guys write it in, since I have strayed away from that subject so far IC :)

But projectile weapons (since they're much more advanced than those on Earth) could be favored for their accuracy, simplicity (it would take a highly trained expert to simply use one), rate of fire (in certain cases), and handling (beam weapons could be much bulkier).
I'd assume beam weapons would be more complex than just pulling a trigger. And it'd probably be a security risk to use one on-board a ship, lest you want to blast holes through every wall. xD
There are a lot of pros and cons when it comes to beam weaponry. Wouldn't the active use of both be simpler?
Mind if I assume the identity of Devil's Advocate?
Beam weapons often aren't much more destructive than bullets themselves. It all depends on the intensity of the beam. I know how to make a powerful solar death ray using only the projector screen from a TV. It was able to light that particular TV's remote on fire. Then there are the less powerful beams, the ones you know as laser sights. Those are used to guide a gunner's aim, and are not particularly destructive unless shot straight into a living being's eyes for a prolonged period of time. There are Russian satellites that can shoot laser beams powerful enough to snipe missiles out of the sky.
As for your stance on projectile weapons, you must take into consideration that projectile weapons aren't more accurate than laser weapons. You have to take in account for bullet drop, wind speeds, and leading a moving target. A laser, which travels at the speed of light, are much more quicker, therefore much more accurate. This immediately eliminates leading, wind speeds, and bullet drop all in one fell swoop. I agree, however, on how laser weapons will likely be much more intricate and complicated as apposed to bullet weapons. However, efficiency is much better than simplicity, don't you agree? The pros seem to outweigh the con's here.
While laser weapons are always bulkier, they offer a much more reliable (if slow) rate of destruction. Bullets may have more strength in the short run, but a laser can simply power through most stuff with enough intensity. Strangely enough, beam weapons are not much more than pulling a trigger. While the gun WILL be much bulkier (due to the necessary mechanics to focus and intensify the beam) the general use will probably be the same as a projectile gun.
Lasers also take time to blow a hole in every wall. It's not star wars, lol. I also don't think lasers will even have the unpredictability to discharge when not in use, due to the potential damage. The makers will make sure not to let it happen.
§
Oh.
Well, now I know not to use video-games as a reference.
You guys know a lot about this stuff, so I'll just ask this: Would the use of projectile weapons be useful, and actively used in a society that has laser weaponry? I mean, obviously untrained rebel groups will have to resort to that, but what about regular armed forces?

And Shiva, your idea sounds excellent. I've an idea for both our characters, as a matter of fact. I'll PM you.
