Well, it looked was going to be traveling with a regular stooge, Shamus thought with a groan. Still, even if he was a yes-wolf, he did have enough sense to suggest they stop for the night. And so long as Schemeko hadn't some how given him a secret instruction, Felonious would probably be loyal enough throughout the duration of their trip in order to please his boss. Was that enough of an assurance to trust him enough to sleep? Er, he'd still have to figure that out.
"Over there looks like a good spot, matey" Shamus suggested, pointing a paw towards a small cave cut into a ridge. It was actually a fortunate find, the Saffron didn't know of too many caves in this district. Without waiting for the affirmation, Shamus proceeded to gather a bundle of grasses and dry leaves to take inside. Backing himself into a corner, Shamus made a show of throwing the bundle on the ground, and after a few return trips, build up enough padding to make a sleeping pad. He was sure to leave plenty of the dried leaves about his mattress, so that any wolf trying to pad close to him while he slept would crinkle and snap with every step. "Tell ya what, matey," Shamus said after he was settled, "why don't you take the first watch, and halfway through the night wake me up for the next watch?"
As if he assumed that the other wolf would agree, he laid his head down and closed his eyes. No, this wolf wasn't going to try anything funny, not tonight. Not when they had barely begun. Nor would any wolf bother them in this part of the land. When Shamus was waken up to watch, he would just fall back asleep! Let's see how loyal that Hemlock is tomorrow when he is walking on half sleep!
