Days turned to nights, falling into months, which peeled away into a full two years. They explored to their hearts content, salvaging the time that they could, were made honorary citizens and received multiple awards. Echo was fully healed,
no longer walking with a gimp or a cast nor brace, but in full strides, the way a demon was meant to. The veins in her brain had stopped thinning aggressively thanks to the shunt, which was now regulating the blood flow to her brain. Echo and Hawk made quite the team and if anyone dare say it, with Hawk's strict training, they had more potential than Echo and Fluorspar. Sure,
the two had meshed well but they had pushed themselves in dangerous ways. Hawk, named aptly, watched her young-ling Echo with the eyes of an older, wiser guardian. She knew the ropes of the world in ways the five hundred year old demon was still ignorant to.
Perhaps she would have learned better had she not been locked up for half of her life. "It's a shame we have to leave," Echo glanced around the barren apartment, save for the few essentials she would need for the course of the next week. Their belongings had been packed up and sent ahead to London. In the next few days they would train and witch over the new recruiters. The duo had already rid their office of all personal belongings. When not in recruitment mode, Echo and Hawk had been active in the hunting scene. Echo had never learned whom that mysterious pink haired demon might have been, even if there were hints to lineage that made no sense to the blonde haired bat. "It's been a nice run," Hawk finished taping up the last box to put on the truck. Echo waved across the hall to the open door where Fluorspar and Samurai were closing up their rooms.
"Everything is temporary," Hawk spoke knowingly, placing a hand on Echo's head. "Nothing is forever. Speaking of which, you need a haircut," Echo stuck out her tongue, detesting the idea of having a human come anywhere near her with a pair of scissors. "Fine, I guess we can wait until we return to London." Hawk rolled her eyes, getting any human other than her Master to so much as shake her hand ended with disastrous results. The ones who had been cutting Echo's hair these last two years had been either Flo or Hawk. Today, Hawk had her own hair pinned up neatly in a fancy braid that ended in an over the top bun which reminded Echo of a flower. It was now early fall, the summer had whisked away quickly into what was going to be another eventful Halloween.
"This time next week, we'll be back in London," a Level 5 already, Echo was proud to say, which was a lot considering what she had been through to get there. Her third human and they were working their hardest to make up for lost time. Hawk thought herself to be something of a Mother hen to Echo and while she had tried to date around, including that Doctor from the Boston Children's Hospital, she just couldn't find anyone good for her. Echo had suggested dating woman, to which Hawk had smacked her not too kindly over the head with a newspaper for. "Not everyone can just decide that they want to date a woman!" She barked, chasing Echo out of their apartment. "Go pick up your uniform, the goodbye dinner is next week and you've delayed going to the dry cleaners for long enough."
"Fine, fine!" Echo winked at Flo, as though to say she would be right back and scurried off in the hunt for the uniform she would have Hawk pin her medals to, since if Echo tried to do it, she would end up with a jagged line across the breast pocket.
