The rest of Evelina’s shift went by slowly for only having an hour left before she would get off and go home. She kept her phone on the counter and peaked occasionally whenever she would get a notification, not wanting to admit it but hoping the boy from earlier would message her, though she probably scared him away. Eve eventually put her phone in her back pocket and out of view so she could focus more on work, though there wasn’t much exactly to focus on, only some woman who came in about five minutes before closing.

Usually someone coming in at the last minute before closing would annoy Eve, but she didn’t feel like trying to argue with the woman, already seeing she was the type that would make a big scene about how they should stay open for the customer. Instead Eve just got started on her closing checklist, the few things she could do while the woman walked around aimlessly, thought it was mostly just cleaning up her many, many sticky notes she would leave around for herself.

As the woman finally left without buying anything, Evelina’s phone buzzed. “Who the fuck is messaging me...?” She asked out loud, a bit annoyed the woman who just left. She didn’t mind that she came in so late, but coming in late and not buying anything and wasting Evelina’s time, that she did mind. When Eve took her phone out of her pocket, it was a number she didn’t recognize and was confused at first, but then remembering she gave her number out, as well as the message saying who it was, a light smile came over her face. She was about to reply when she noticed him typing another message and was curious what he was going to say and waited. It was a long minute before the short message asking if she wanted something to eat. Evelina quickly saved his number in her phone before replying.

ello! i skipped lunch today so am hungry :3 should b off work soon

Eve quickly replied, as well as continuing the conversation a bit for until she had to really focus on finishing on closing the store. Most stores in New York stayed open pretty late, but where she worked they closed early on Wednesdays, just to give them all a little bit of recreational time. Though if it was up for Evelina she would work later so she would make more money.

After cleaning up and getting everything done for closing, Evelina clocked out and grabbed her jacket as she walked outside, sending Jeffrey a message saying she was off, and she had to wait a bit for him to show up. It wasn’t long until he arrived, saying hi and thanks, “Hey there!” She replied, before he asked what type of food she liked. “I’m probably the most in love with doner and kebabs.” She said as the two of the began walking, and keeping a little bit of conversation between the two.

When the two of them were two blocks away Evelina remembered something, something that she was supposed to do after work, but got distracted with Jeffrey. “Fuck…” She signed out, Jeffrey quickly asking what. “I was supposed to cash my check from work, and the bank I use is on the other side of town. Won’t be able to get doner. Ugh” Eve said as she leaned against a wall and letting out a breath. Though Jeffrey spoke up and quickly offered to pay, and usually Evelina would decline the offer, she hated when she had to have people pay stuff for her. It made her feel like she owed them or like she was less than them, a feeling she already had to battle every day with other people. But she was hungry and were almost there, so she just agreed. “Fine. But only this time. I don’t like owing people.”
