XX Sato Jirou xx#836F6E

Kanayama's unconcerned reaction to Jirou's words serves to calm him slightly, but he refuses to let his guard down. Kanayama has all the power here- he can't afford to piss him off.

Jirou files away Kanayama's phone number in the back of his mind. Kanayama smiles eerily.

"
Well, that's a wrap!" He says, sounding far too chipper. "Sorry, I got something else to do right now. See you later, Sato-san. I hope things go well for you."

Something about the phrase "I hope things go well for you" has Jirou grinding his teeth and very seriously considering just punching Kanayama in the face, consequences be damned. Of course, he doesn't. Instead, Jirou watches Kanayama leave with narrowed eyes. He doesn't say goodbye.

Only once Kanayama is long gone does the tension finally seep from Jirou's bones. Well, as much of the tension as he can allow. He can never be too comfortable on the streets of Kabukichou.

It's only tutoring, Jirou tells himself. If he wants more, you can give him more.

If you do what he wants, everything will be fine.

XX ❋
Jirou waits exactly two days before calling Kanayama, simply to show that he isn't desperate.

(He almost goes insane over those two days, paranoid that Kanayama is going to materialize from the shadows and stab him for not cooperating. But Jirou doesn't even see Kanayama very much.)

He borrows Noriko-san's phone while she's off cooking with his mom, and he calls the number he'd memorized, fingers gripping the old-fashioned receiver so tight his fingers go numb.

No one answers.

Jirou hangs up and redials. Again, no one answers.

You've gotta be fucking kidding me.

Instantly, thoughts start running in Jirou's head, trying to invent a reason why no one answered. Is it a wrong number? There's no way he remembered wrong. Did Kanayama give him a fake? What if Kanayama was lying and was planning on outing him to the world from the very beginning?

Jirou forces himself to calm down. It works only marginally. He redials, and holds his breath.
