XX Sato Jirou xx#836F6E

"First of all-"

Goddammit, he's pissed isn't he.

"I'm sorry I made you wait. I didn't expect you to call -- everyone texts nowadays, so I guess it's rather charming." Kanayama says, sounding rather... normal. Not pissed, at least.

I guess I was overreacting, Jirou thinks. But then, I have every reason to overreact, don't I?

"You can come on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, three-thirty in the afternoon. As of now, you can just walk up to the front door and ring the doorbell," Kanayama continues. "Don't be alarmed if one of the maids answer the door -- they're all very lovely people."

Maids. Of course Kanayama Takashi has maids. Jirou grapples between his knowledge that any job is a valid job and his frustration with wealthy privileged people, then finally decides to forget the matter until he knows whether or not Kanayama needs punched for not paying them fairly.

Part of him hopes they aren't, because he really wants a reason to punch Kanayama.

Jirou files away all the new information and sighs into the phone, then frowns, annoyed with his slip. "
Alright. I'll be there. I assume I don't need to tell you not to talk to me at school."

That was rude. But then, do I care? "Well, good night then."

Jirou hangs up and immediately takes a deep breath, forces down the anxiety that rose in his gut the second he picked up the phone. Then again- did that anxiety ever fade away in the first place?

It doesn't matter. It's not like there's anything I can do to make it go away now, anyways.

XX ❋
At school, Jirou pointedly avoids Kanayama, and by all appearances, Kanayama avoids him, too. It benefits both of them, in the end- Jirou doesn't gain unwanted attention for fraternizing with the rich, and Kanayama doesn't gain unwanted criticism for fraternizing with the poor.

And yet, when the boys-in-the-next-class-over-whose-names-he-never-learned beat him to a pulp for the second time in one week and Jirou catches a glimpse of a hiding Kanayama, well.

He comes away from it torn between feeling grateful and furious that Kanayama didn't intervene.
