Valerie retreated under the minor shadow of the tree that loomed over her, it was quite tall, compared to her; she was only 5"3', after all. One of the nearby villages was against witchcraft, to the point where they literally chased the redhead out of her home once they heard of her abilities. In the attempt to shake the recent events from her mind, she sat down on the bed of grass below her and leaned against the tree, serenely watching the clouds.

The witch toyed with the silver pendant hanging around her neck subconsciously. It was a family heirloom, taking the shape of a small owl, which possessed two captivating, ruby eyes. Whether its eyes were made of real rubies or not seemed irrelevant to Valerie, it wasn't enchanted or anything, either. For some reason, the woman had kept the object for years, despite its lack of magical properties, which were common in witches' possessions. Perhaps it was the fact that she could be rather sentimental occasionally.
