Hello everyone, this is going to a pretty loose roleplay revolving around us roleplaying characters who have fantastical abilities caused by mutations. This will hopefully go quite a ways and we can build an interesting world together. Where we are starting is near the beginning of all the mess that is going to happen. There are no factions yet, other then pre-existing government agencies or possible mutant support groups. Your characters will have at most two years with their abilities, and I would like the abilities to be kept within reason. No Kryptonians please. Without further ado, I will now move on to the actual world we will be writing in. A disclaimer, I will be VERY active in the OOC, which is where I will put a lot of the Lore and where y'all can ask any questions that come to mind.

Welcome to Smalltown America, where nothing out of the ordinary really happens. But that is a stereotype, and stereotypes are broken all the time. As will be done here, in the small town of Ashford. This town is named because of its old industrial ties, the remnants of which still litter the otherwise picturesque town. Now I understand you're probably wondering, why the hell do I care? Well, the answer to that my (hopefully) players is that Ashford is at a key spot. It is near a relatively secret US Government Facility where some questionable stuff is done under the guise of national security. For years the Thorne Program has been developing in this facility, using up millions of taxpayers dollars, when all that money is finally going to be put to use.
Two years ago, on national television, at an interview about the Flint Water Crisis, the reporter starting giving off seismic tremors, causing the whole building she was in to collapse in on itself, killing everyone inside. That was the first televised instance of the Mutants, or Supers. These people have strange little hiccups in their genetic code that give them fantastic powers. Of course, there were others, but these were hushed up, as people did not want to seem strange. But with this event, that could no longer be the case. More and more powers were emerging, and the Government stood frozen, unsure where to begin. Chaos was happening, as frightened people shunned their families, friends, whomever grew these powers. Some of them banded together to form support groups, talking about their problems and simply finding comfort in that they weren't alone. However, this has all changed with the arrival of the new head of the Department of Domestic Defense, the Honorable Vlad Panter. He is a staunch "Purist" meaning he does not believe in the rights of the Mutants. He developed a classification system, and any mutants above a certain class were imprisoned or at least attempted to be. He unleashed the Thorne Program, which is a group of genetically altered soldiers, to begin hunting them down. However, a good portion of the Thorne Program was made of U.S. soldiers who showed mutations and then volunteered for treatment.
This brings us to Ashford. Ashford is a mere forty miles from the site of the Thorne Program, yet it has a surprisingly high amount of Supers.

The story will start with the introductions and the need to band together, for a major announcement will come through, with a call for mutants to come forth and be registered or be arrested. Hateful verbage is being spilled at the highest levels, and only a handful of congressmen and women even speak against it. The United States are Uniting once again but against their own, citizens born and bred American, with just some variances in their genes. How your character handles these changes and the hate is up to you. This arc will be over when some organizations have truly formed and our characters have figured out precisely what is going, with an extreme case of success being the destruction of the Thorne Program's Base.
