h a i r x // x Areum's hair — which is naturally a dark, jet black — reaches to around her shoulders as she keeps it trimmed to avoid unnecessary hassle. She can often be seen with it styled in a ponytail, otherwise it's left hanging haphazardly.
e y e s x // x Her striking hazel eyes are usually accentuated by some sort of makeup, catching the attention of anyone who happens to gaze in her direction.
o d d i t i e s x // x Besides minimalistic tattoos that cover her body here and there, she has very few markings on her skin save for a few beauty marks on her shoulders.
a p p e a r a n c e x // x For all of the attention that she pays to constantly look her best, it's a wonder that people don't mistake her for being a child of Aphrodite. Areum is someone who is always dressed to impress, even during the times where she's seemingly not putting much effort into her appearance.
Areum consistently looks as if she's tired of life. Her eyes are glazed over at any given point in time, almost as if she's constantly walking a tightrope between consciousness and the enticing embrace of Morpheus himself. There are small gaps in time where she truly seems to be in the moment, a sudden shock of life entering her gaze. It's during these moments where one can truly see how captivating her eyes truly are.
The dark clothing she wears only serves to emphasize the best qualities of herself, contrasting heavingly with her eyes and her lips, which are usually outlined in bright red lipstick. Even her pale skin seemingly serves this purpose, and Areum is sure of using it to her own advantage. She likes to keep her outfits clean and to the point, rarely seen wearing anything that's too gaudy.

s u b c o n s c i o u s x h y p n o t i s m x // x Though she can't actually control someone through this ability, Areum is able to place small suggestions into someone else's subconscious. This encourages them to act in whichever way she wants them to, but there is always the everlingering chance that they could ignore the suggestions or brush them aside. It's perhaps her strongest ability and she's quite apt at making her suggestions hard to tune out.
n i g h t x v i s i o n x // x A very basic power that required little to no training in order to master, her night vision allows her to see as clear as day during the night. While it doesn't have many specific uses, it is still incredibly useful in generality.
d r e a m x m a n i p u l a t i o nx // x She's able to affect someone's dreams, even to the extent that she could effect physically appear in them herself. It's not a power that she has had to use often, and because of that she doesn't really have much control over it.

c h a r i s m a t i c x // x She almost exudes charm and compelling appeal, sometimes of the sort that inspires devotion in some and jealousy in others. Areum is unnaturally easy to talk to, and that fact scares a few people.
r e l a x e d x // x Perhaps a gift from her father, Hypnos, Areum is not a very uptight or tense person. She's easygoing and prefers to adapt to whatever situation is thrown in her direction. This doesn't mean she's not assertive, but she certainly does have a more laissez-faire attitude about life.
i n t e l l i g e n t x // x Although she's not as smart as some of Athena's children, but she doesn't need to be. Her intelligence lies in understanding what makes people tick and how to appeal to others in a way that few can.

p h y s i c a l x c o n f r o n t a t i o n x // x Not exactly because she's bad at fighting — far from it, truly — but she detests the act. Areum would much prefer to be the one behind the scenes pulling the strings rather than being the person having to get up close and personal with anyone.
n a r c i s s i s t i c x // x Her sense of self-importance could be likened to that of Zeus's children. There is an almost constant need for admiration present in her, which leads to her treating everyone who does otherwise with indifference.
o b s t i n a t e x // x She trusts herself more than she could anyone else, and so when she makes a decision or forms any sort of belief it's incredibly hard, almost impossible, to shake her from it. Areum is aware of how unreasonable she can be, but it's a seemingly unstoppable habit.

d r o w n i n g x // x It's perhaps the scariest way to die; struggling and gasping for air and slowly being pulled under by the dense waves. It's not a very debilitating fear, as she can still be around large bodies of water without panicking, but the fear is still very real and Areum is honestly a little embarrased to admit it.
c o n f i n e m e n t x // x Being locked away from the rest of the world and left to slowly waste away is another fear of Areum's. Much less realistic in some ways, but still frightening. Practically any situation that leaves her struggling hopelessly to survive is frightening to her; not only due to the cruelty of it, but also how painful it must be.
c o m a s x // x Ironic, given that she's the offspring of the God of Sleep, but the thought of being in what's essentially a prolonged state of unconsciousness is more than unsettling. It's really the fear of what could possibly be going on around her while she's in such a state of complete unawareness.

She isn't so introverted to where she's little more than a leaf in the wind, nor is she so outgoing to the point where she's overbearing. She is perhaps just the right temperament to attract anyone towards her, and although she's one you'd never think to be even the slightest hint of manipulative, she does tend to take advantage of this fact from time to time.
If it's for any reason at all, she heavily appreciates the adoration that she gets from a few. Her ego is not one of some inherent sense of superiority over everyone else, but she perchance values herself just a little bit too much. On the off chance that she finds someone who's unmoved by her, she reciprocates the treatment, treating the said person as if they're less than human and not giving them the hint of acknowledgment.
Likewise, she also has a tendency to treat almost everyone like this unless they've somehow proven to her that they're worth the effort.
Her apathetic nature isn't entirely a bad thing. Due to the fact she's pretty much unswayed by most happenings, she makes a great strategist and an even better businesswoman. She'd be more than conceited to ever compare herself to the likes of Athena's offspring, but she thinks she's clever enough to at least put up a good fight against any of them given the chance. She's also a tad bit of a mediator when things get a little bit crazy and she interferes solely out of annoyance.
To many people who've spent a significant around of her, Areum could be compared to a mirage in some ways, as if she's not always there but exists just enough for people to be able to interact with her. Truthfully, she would prefer to keep things this way. It limits the amount of effort she has to put into people, and also limits the amount of drama that she ends up having to deal with.
People can be close friends and even a great source of use, but they're equally as deadly. Get too close to a snake and eventually, it'll snap its fangs at you, a lesson that Areum has learned and taught all too many times. Frankly, it's a wonder why she even bothers to interact with anyone else. Possibly caused by her upbringing, but she can't help but see the benefits of the connections one can make with others.
More than anything else, Areum would like to say that she's completely unbothered by the world around her and the people who fill it. But there are a few people who've shes grown a little too close to that make it worth staying conscious in the waking world.
It's these few people that get a glimpse of a candid Areum, no-holds-barred. But she knows how to keep her cards close to her chest, and she's more than capable of knowing who she can trust and when she can trust them.

The realization was nothing momentous. It just became another piece of the puzzle that was her life, on that she slowly learned how to use to her advantage.
Ji-Hye was the owner of a successful company, STRATUS, that had eventually spun its web around the world. It was the great fruit of her labors that she had been working so tirelessly for, especially in a world as patriarchal as the one of business. Naturally, Areum was expected to take over whenever her mother eventually retired, even taking into account her status as a demigod. She was groomed to live such a lifestyle, taught the necessary skills of negotiating and charisma. Ji-Hye was always adamant about the importance of justice, in the significance of making an honest deal and forming relations that weren't based on manipulation and deceit.
Areum herself cared less for such virtuosity, despite her mother's best efforts.
When her powers began to manifest, which was long before she ever considered attending Camp Athens. She could control them so far, and so the only thoughts running through her young mind was; "Why not have a little fun while I can?"
And so she did.
The first people she ever used her powers of subconscious hypnotism on were her mother's business partners. Ji-Hye could preach about justice and honesty all she wanted, but Areum was netting her a few business deals; what weight did her statements really hold? There was a lot of entertainment to be had in experimenting with the suggestions she could plant in one's mind. How strong did they need to be? What lengths could she push them too? These were all questions that she soon answered.
But as quickly as the fun came, she soon found herself hitting a plateau. Her powers were no longer progressing as quickly as she had wanted them to. It was during this time that she felt herself falling into the depths of what is possibly the worst feeling on Earth; boredom. Not only with her abilities, but with life in general. She found herself caring less and less for the friends she had at school, for the business world that she would soon be at the apex of, and slowly, but surely, Areum grew apathetic towards the existence of others and even her own.
It wasn't a surprise really. There was nothing left to explore; she knew the career that she would follow, her powers were no longer a source of entertainment, even emotions themselves would only appear in varying degrees, but always remain the same in the end. Everything was a little bit too easy, just a tad too simple; Areum's soul was crying out for something more, and eventually, an oppurtunity would reveal itself.
Suk-Ja; the daughter of some random CEO or another, Areum doesn't really care to remember. What is etched into her mind is how the world seemed to dull even further in comparison to her. She was a tad bit of a trouble-maker, cared even less for authority than Areum herself did, and was simultaneously the worst and the best that the world had to offer. Perhaps it was a crush, mere infatuation, maybe even obsession; it didn't matter in her mind, and it still doesn't. Suk-ja illuminated her monotonous life, and she'd do her damn best to keep her around.
Though fate would soon prove itself to be a cruel thing.
Areum found herself using her powers on Suk-Ja, making her slowly more and more attached to herself. It was for her own selfish reasons, and she came dangerously close to destroying the one relationship she felt was worth the effort. A new power had manifested outside of Areum's awareness, and as Suk-Ja found herself growing closer to Areum as a friend, she also had increasingly horrific nightmares of that very same person.
Nightmares grew into uneasiness, eventually followed by paranoia and suspicion. It wasn't until Suk-Ja ultimately lashed out at her that Areum had realized what had been happening. Some taunting and callous voice in her head reminded her of her mother's words. What she used to think of silly high-minded proclamations had warped and twisted themselves into her life, and frankly, she was more pissed off than anything that they'd come back to bite her in the ass.
After she had stopped abusing her powers on Suk-Ja their relationship returned to some semblance of normality, but Ji-Hye had finally told Areum of Camp Athens.
She was hoping she would never have to, hoping that Areum's powers would never manifest too much and her nature as a demigod could just be casually swept under the rug. But her destiny would lead her elsewhere, and soon after her nineteenth birthday Areum herself decided that she would go. A part of her was a little apprehensive about leaving Suk-Ja, but in other ways she felt exultant.
She had far grown tired of the unexceptional life she had lived for nineteen years, and leaving for Camp Athens would provide some much needed change.
