Positive Traits:
Hard working, Motivated, Independent, Loyal

Negative Traits:
Passive Aggressive, Defensive, Petty, Unforgiving

Personality:
A lot of people, friends or enemies, would tell you that Brooklyn has a tendency to be a bitch, and she lives up to that reputation. Even she'll admit it. Brooklyn is the type of person who doesn't pretend to like someone or something if she doesn't. The honesty that she possesses could be admirable, but she tends to take that honesty to a level of being unnecessarily blunt and cruel. She definitely has a habit of stepping on other people in order to make herself feel higher up. She's frequently standoffish, and not someone who makes a good first impression, but it's usually done on purpose. She doesn't want anyone to think that she is their friend, because she doesn't want to have to deal with the social expectations that come with friendship. She hates having to give out advice, even to people she loves, because she hates feeling responsible for other's feelings. It's hard for her to accept responsibility for things to begin with, but given that she's secretly a very secretive and insecure individual, it's all the more harder for her to feel like she might be responsible for ruining someone else's life when they trusted her to help. Though she doesn't exude the most welcoming of vibes, she also isn't extremely aggressive. For the most part, Brooklyn does her own thing. Her passive aggressive and catty sides will rear their heads if you bother her, if she feels like you're stepping on her territory, or calling her out, or challenging her. Here or there, she'll mutter a provocative comment if she's bored, but she isn't picking fights with every person she sees. In her mind, most people just aren't that important.

Most people only see the negative traits that she has, because she tends to be emotionally closed off from the world. She opens up to very few people, and even then, there are things, like her past, that she just will never get into. She prides herself in being strong and in control of her emotions, so she really does her best to never get emotional. If she does, it's usually when she highly intoxicated, and usually comes to the surface in the form of anger and shouting about how much she hates people, or more rarely, crying about how unfair life is to her. Though she tends to be hard around her friends as well, Brooklyn has some admirable traits, such as how self-reliant, independent, hardworking, witty, and protective she is. No one can say that she isn't hardworking, and she's the kind of girl who will gladly work for anything she wants or needs, on her own, without relying on or expecting anyone else to get it for her.

Dislikes:
Thinking about her family | Accepting responsibility for her mistakes | Being broke | Winter | Apologizing | Surprises

History:
From birth to the middle of her fourteenth year of life, Brooklyn led a very average life. Her father worked as a lawyer, and her mother as an account, giving them enough finances to feel secure. When she was seven, her family grew by one, as her little sister Kate was born. Most of her childhood was spent trying out extracurricular activities, making friends, enjoying her family's company, and being your average child. Things only strayed off of this average, yet appreciated path, on the night of her aunt's wedding. Brooklyn and Kate attended the church ceremony but were sent to separate friends' houses that night while their parents attended the after party. The plan was for the girls to sleep over their friends' houses, and Brooklyn did, but a little past midnight, Kate became sick and the friend's mother called their parents to pick her up. Rather than call a taxi, Brooklyn's very intoxicated father insisted he would go to pick her up, drop her off at his parents' house, and then return to the party. He did manage to get to the friend's house to pick her up, but on the way to his parents' house, he veered into incoming traffic. Kate was killed immediately, and the driver of the car they hit clung to life for three weeks before his family decided to pull the life support.

Being a lawyer, her father had enough connections to get out on bail before his trial began, and during that time, he killed himself. He couldn't live with two peoples' blood on his hand, let alone when one of them was his daughter. Plus, the idea of spending a life sentence in prison made his existence seem futile. Brooklyn saw it as selfish. Within six months, her sister died, her father died, her mother fell into a deep depression, and they lost their home due to the mounting legal costs associated with her father's case. She had no time to grieve for one thing before another bad thing hit, and it took a major toll on her level of trust for everyone. When she was in her seventeenth year, her mother married a man, who Brooklyn really only knew well enough to know that he doubled as an alcoholic and a mechanic. She disliked the man, she disliked her mother for marrying him, and for moving on so quickly. She needed time to sort things out, and no one was giving it to her. It was like she didn't exist, and she hated it. After many arguments with her mother, who quickly took to her new husband's drinking habits, and the man, Brooklyn packed her bags and left. She had her high school diploma but no college education so when she ended up in Manhattan, she didn't have many real job options. She ended up becoming employed at a strip club that she still works at to this day. During her time in New York, she took various waitressing jobs as well, and one of them linked her to an older divorced man, Finn, who owned a small pub downtown. He felt for Brooklyn's situation and allowed her to live rent free in his basement when she got in an argument with her roommates and had to move out. Eventually, she met Nick, a boy who had been hired as a dishwasher at the pub soon after her. He worked primarily as a drug dealer, but the restaurant job helped him get by, and with Finn's approval, he began living in the basement with Brooklyn. When Finn suddenly passed away of a heart attack, he left Brooklyn a small amount of money (since the rest went to his biological kid) and that two thousand dollars helped with her and Nick's first month of rent when they moved in with Cara and her brother. It was supposed to be a place to stay temporarily, since Cara was only doing a "good deed" by allowing them to take up her extra bedroom for a month since she knew Nick only through him selling drugs to her friends in high school, but clearly, they managed to overstay their welcome. Brooklyn was convinced that her relationship with Nick was going to last forever, and that was saying a lot, given that Brooklyn had never really opened up or loved anyone before Nick, but lo and behold, it didn't. He cheated on her with Cara two months ago, and once Brooklyn found out a month ago, he left.

Thanksgiving Day is a holiday typically spent between families, in homes filled with the delicious aromas of various dishes cooking in the kitchen. A game of football will go down in the backyard while dinner is prepared, or some will get an early start on watching Christmas movies that will begin to pop up on certain television channels. People will travel from all across the country to be with their families, because after all, Thanksgiving is the day to give thanks, and for a lot of people, the thing to be most grateful for is their families. However, not everyone is able to spend Thanksgiving with their families. For some, flights or transportation costs are unbearably high. Others may not have been able to get off from work for the holiday weekend, and others don't have family, or don't get along with them, at least, to go and visit. Whatever the circumstances may be, there are some people who find themselves in situations that differ from the traditional ones on the holiday, and coincidentally, that's the case for many of the residents of the fifth floor of the apartment building at 314 W 14th Street, in Manhattan, this year.

Brooklyn had just gotten back to the apartment building, after spending a few hours at the gym. She considered going straight back to her own apartment, but knowing that Cara was working on some Thanksgiving dinner that was sure to be over the top, Brooklyn decided that avoiding the apartment for as long as possible was her best bet. It would probably be a surprise to some, but she was perfectly content with eating the food that "the other woman" who had destroyed her relationship was making. In Brooklyn's mind, it made sense to take advantage of Cara as much as possible now. She would eat the food that the girl paid for, drink her liquor, and do her best not to kill her. It wasn't like Brooklyn had too many other options, anyway. The only family that she had left was her mother, and she hadn't seen that woman in seven years. She was used to just spending holidays with Nick, and sometimes Jude, if he had nothing better to do, but Nick was the last person she wanted to see today. It wasn't like she didn't have other friends who would have her over, but Cara's made the most sense in Brooklyn's mind, because she wanted to use up everything that she could take from Cara, as if it would somehow even out what Cara took from her.

Makayla and Holly were standing outside of their apartment when Brooklyn got to the top of the steps, and though she walked around them quietly, without saying a word, she knew that escaping conversation would be too good to be true. It took less than a second after Holly noticed her heading towards Tony's door, for Holly to curiously pipe up, "Why are you going to Weston's? Did he invite you over?"

"His sister did," Brooklyn answered, though it wasn't exactly true. Brooklyn hadn't spoken to Tony today, but when they lived right across the hall from each other, Brooklyn didn't feel like a text was necessary before stopping by. It probably spoke to how comfortable and entitled she often grew to feel, like people had to accommodate her thinking that she could do whatever she wanted, but it wasn't doing in a malicious way. If anything, Brooklyn wanting to hang out with you signified that she liked you more than the other 99% of the people that she knew. In her eyes, it was a compliment, even if it didn't always translate as one. She was ready to knock on Tony's door, but paused for a second, as she smirked and turned back towards Holly. "Would you be jealous if he did, though?" Admittedly, Brooklyn liked riling up Holly when she could. The girl did a good job at getting under her skin, so the least that she could do was repay the favor... And if sometimes it seemed like Holly was possessive over Tony's brother, since he was her friend to walk home to school with, then sue Brooklyn for poking fun at Holly about it. She deserved to get a laugh at the girl's expense from time to time.

"No, I'm not jealous. Me and Makayla are making cookies! If you're lucky, we'll let you have one when we go to Cara's house later!" Holly answered enthusiastically, following Makayla into their apartment now that her sister had found the key to unlock the door with.

Brooklyn raised her eyebrows at that, feigning interest, though she really wanted to roll her eyes, because of course, it was her luck that Holly would brush over the insinuation about Weston now, in favor of focusing on something far more innocent. It was a remark that was very typical of Holly, who seemed to be too innocent for her own good, so while disappointed, Brooklyn couldn't really be surprised. "Sounds good," she answered, less interest present in her voice now as she spun back around and knocked on Tony's door, before going ahead and jiggling the doorknob right after that, and finding it to be unlocked. She let herself in, only hoping that Tony was home, and not just Weston. "The neighborhood's favorite bitch has arrived, here to wish the Garcias a happy Thanksgiving even though they were too rude to wish me one first!" she announced as she stepped inside and shut the door behind her. Music was playing inside, and given the layout of the apartment, Brooklyn only had to take a few steps inside to see the Garcia she was hoping for, in the kitchen. While the music might have been the first thing that Brooklyn's senses paid attention to upon opening the door, the mouthwatering aroma that filled the room was what really took her attention. "Look at you, all wifey material up in here. Having a party that you forgot to invite me to?" she mused playfully, helping herself to a seat at the table that allowed her to still see the brunette.

Brooklyn was glad that Tony seemed to be in a good mood. It wasn't because the girl normally wasn't, or even that Brooklyn would have left if she wasn't in a good mood today, but she was just happy to see that her friend didn't seem overwhelmed. She rarely ever showed it, but Brooklyn did care about her friends. She knew that Tony had a lot on her shoulders. She had a bar to keep afloat, and to her, that was more than just keeping a business open. It was a legacy, and it meant more to her than someone who just purchased or took over a new bar. On top of that, she had the responsibility of caring for her brother, and making sure that he was okay, all while trying to balance normal, everyday responsibilities on her shoulders. It was a lot, and Brooklyn could recognize that, even if she wouldn't recognize it aloud. Given that she no longer had a traditional family situation either, she understood how holidays could make people in their situation even more stressed out than they normally were, so she was glad to see Tony smile behind the beer bottle upon her arrival. "And you knew that you were invited to my Thanksgiving a week ago too!" she combated, pretending to be serious, though she knew Tony would see through that, especially since they had already discussed that it was Cara who was running whatever was going on in her apartment. "I have a turkey and everything in the oven, and you're just gonna try and one-up me like this. I knew you were a bitch from the day I met you, though. Can't say I'm surprised," she sighed, shaking her head dramatically.

She contemplated for a moment, over whether she wanted to start drinking yet or not, but ultimately stood up to grab a bottle of beer. Once opened, she took a sip and thanked herself for allowing herself the early start today. She was more of a liquor or wine girl over beer, but beer was an easy way to start the night. That was the key for Brooklyn, to start slow. It wasn't like she was planning on getting wasted tonight anyway, given that there was a good chance she would be called into work later on, but even if she didn't, she didn't want anything more than a nice buzz to get her through the night. If she drank beer first, at least she would feel fuller than she would with the other alcoholic choices, and she would likely end up drinking less. "I'll stick with this, thanks," she responded, sitting back down with her drink now. The pie did look good, and given that Brooklyn had only had a piece of fruit for breakfast (which was actually around lunch time, since she had gotten up late), she was hungry, but she could wait. She was planning on eating as much as she wanted once Cara served dinner, and especially if she was working later, she didn't need to overeat and feel bloated and disgusting. "Where's Wes? I saw Holly in the hallway and she said that they were dating now, and that she was going to come by in a little to hang out with him. Oh, and that she had twenty new stories to tell you for the next three hours," she lied, though probably noticeably, and only out of the intentions of provocative amusement.

Sliding her phone back into the pocket of her hoodie, Tony focused on cutting the pie, deciding to go with slicing up the dessert now so that all of the cuts would be even. Luckily, by the time Brooklyn had called her a bitch, the cutting was done because Tony was pretty sure she would have nicked herself from how hard she laughed. Had she been high school Antonia, Tony was very much aware that she and Brooklyn would have never become as comfortable in one another's presence as they currently were. In fact, Tony was pretty sure they would have had to duke it out during that first month of her and Weston staying in the building because her during her high school days was brash, sensitive, and abrasive - barely constrained and easy to rile. Though still abrasive and a touch audacious, she was tempered enough not to take everything you seriously and Brooklyn's brand of tough girl magic, as Tony called it, spoke to her own.

Reaching into the cabinet under the sink where she had stowed away paper plates to minimize on the dish washing, Tony ripped the plastic covering to fetch a plate, closed the cabinet, and retrieved a slice of pie from the pie dish. She put the knife in the sink and the pie back in the fridge, humming in delight as she's licked the whipped cream that gathered on her finger during the slicing process. "Your loss," she mused, taking a fork from the dish rack, grabbbing her fork and plate, along with her half-finished beer and headed over to the table the blonde was occupying with the beer she decided on. While Tony knew that not a lot of people favored beer much, not when they could have syrupy sweet alcoholic beverages, she had grown up surrounded by beer drinkers. She had also grown picky about it, which is why she usually stuck to the North Coast Old Stock Ale and kept it around the house. She didn't even bother getting a large shipment of it for the bar to avoid dealing with the older beer drinkers who claimed it wasn't as bitter as the real beer that stayed in their hands. It was good enough for her with its slightly effervescent mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Plus, it's sweet maltiness intermingled with notes of caramel and long, slightly bitter finish warmed her the way drinking whiskey did.

Tony snorted softly at the idea of Wes and Holly as she took a seat, shaking her head in mild amusement. It wasn't even a slight against Holly; she was such a pretty little sweetheart. It still surprised her, even with the girl's childlike mannerisms, that Makayla didn't have to bat at least some of the guys in Holly's grade away. "Yeah right," she scoffed on a grin, digging in to get a forkful of pie. "Pretty sure baby girl is missing a few choice parts to be Wes' type, but ok. I'll let him know his status change when he's back from the store. Needed a few things." Tony popped the forkful into her mouth, sliding the fork out through her tightly-pressed, full lips on a soft moan at the texture of the creamy filling combined with the crumbly crust at the bottom. "Damn, I'm good," she commented off-handedly. Tony pointed at Brooklyn with her fork as she continued to speak. "Look, you can go on and reject my very welcome and gracious invitation to sit at a table with a bitch you don't like all you want. Just don't be surprised when you hear that my food is better cuz I warned you." Tony was being notably playful, though she wasn't in the company of those she would like to think she was being playful. With Brooklyn, she didn't have to care. At the same time, Tony didn't actually wish a bad dinner for Cara, though that was more for the benefit of those who were going to partake in whatever feast the girl had planned. Even though Tony was partly serious about thinking her meal was going to be better.

This was typical Tony, and it made Brooklyn want to laugh, but even in a friend's presence, she wasn't that outwardly emotional, where every humorous remark that escaped the girl's lips made Brooklyn crack up. "Oh, please," she rolled her eyes, looking at Tony with a smirk and narrowed eyes. "I love your food and everything, babe, but you're stupider than your future sister-in-law if you think that she doesn't have the whole cast of judges from Chopped cooking whatever Thanksgiving dinner I'm about to be served tonight." Brooklyn didn't have any culinary skills in her. She could make basic things, like toast, or a sandwich, or scrambled eggs, or brownies, and if it was something pre-made that came with instructions involving an oven or toaster or microwave, she could handle that too. Cooking the way that Tony could cook was out of her league though, and Brooklyn would readily admit that (even if it came with a tag along comment about how the world couldn't be expect her to be perfect at everything, given how many skills she had already mastered). It was something she used to actually feel insecure about, especially when she put a lot of pressure on Nick to be the breadwinner of their relationship, and yet she possessed none of the traditional homemaker qualities. Now, though, she felt little remorse over lacking skills in the kitchen. It was what it was, and if she had to live the rest of her life eating salads, bagels and take-out, then she was at peace with that. However, she also knew that Cara was no better than her. Unless Jude had ever used it, Brooklyn was almost positive that the only time the oven in their apartment had actually ever been used was the one time that Cara was out of town, and Nick decided to make weed brownies in it.

"The bell must've went off ten times this morning with delivery people waiting to be buzzed in, but I guarantee you this bitch will try and act like she cooked all of it. She's a crazy fucking bitch, and I can say that, since it takes one to know one," she said, offering a playful with in the other girl's direction. "And besides, it's not like I'm only going for the food," Brooklyn continued. "I think I'm gonna fuck her brother tonight." It was probably a crude way of putting it, or blunt, at the very least, but that was how Brooklyn was, as she nonchalantly took a sip of her drink. Never before the cheating scandal would Brooklyn even think of Collin as a possible partner to bring into bed. For one, she thought she was in a long term relationship at that point, but even beyond that, she saw Collin as someone who filled a "little brother" role, even if she didn't think of him as filling her little brother role. He was younger than she was, which was something that Brooklyn rarely encountered when having sex, and he also was more gentle and quiet than she was used to in guys she pursued. She never saw him as a sex object, and even now, all she saw him as was a tool for vengeance. He was an attractive guy, that was certain, but he wasn't her type on an average day. He would be useful for getting back at Cara, though. Since Cara didn't have a boyfriend of her own for Brooklyn to sleep with, sleeping with her brother seemed like the next best option. "You should be a good friend and leave your apartment unlocked tonight. It'll be easier for me to bring him over here than do it in our apartment if other people are there."

Makayla was tempted to say "nice try" to Brooklyn, as she listened to the girl try and goad a more mature answer out of Holly than Holly gave her, but she opted to keep her mouth shut. She and Brooklyn had been on good terms lately, and beyond that, Makayla was too tired for even the pettiest of squabbles with the blonde right now. Her arms felt like they were about to snap with the heavier of the grocery bags weighing them down, especially given that she had just had to carry them up five flights of stairs, plus the couple of blocks worth of the walk home. "Put everything aside from the cookies away, okay? We need to make sure that we're organized first, and then we can put these in the oven," Makayla said to her sister as she opened the door. Things that were common sense to most people, were the most necessary things to remind Holly of, it seemed. She either forgot, or what Makayla tended to think was more of the case lately, she just simply preferred to do the "fun" things, and liked to pretend to overlook the more tedious ones.

"Why do you think Tony invited Brooklyn over, and not us?" was all that Holly answered with, before following her question up with an unrelated squeal. "I'm so excited for Thanksgiving! I love Thanksgiving, it's my new favorite holiday!" Inside, her attention shifted quickly again, and Makayla's words from just a second before went in one ear and out the other as she set the grocery bag that she was carrying down by the door and continued inside without it. The first thing that had caused her attention to tray was the way that the apartment was filled with an aroma that was so good, it was impossible to ignore. Holly was picky when it came to foods, and it was likely that she would scrunch her nose in distaste at most of the dishes that created this wonderful smell, but she could still appreciate how good it smelled. It only added to the festive mood that was so easy for her to get into. The second thing that she noticed, and that she noticed more consciously, was the man standing in their kitchen. She would have expected to see Sam or Deja, but instead, it was their neighbor Theodore. "Theo, I think you're in the wrong apartment," Holly informed him, a look of skepticism on her face. Deja must have escaped down the hallway just a second before, because as she and Makayla walked in, the only person left in the kitchen was the boy, who Holly knew, certainly did not live here. She wasn't against him being in the apartment, per se, but it was just instinctive for her to point out things she noticed, and this was one of those things that seemed noteworthy. "And if something is in the oven, you definitely need to take it out because me and Makayla have cookies to bake, and that's more important than anything else in the world right now," she said, taking on an uncharacteristically stern tone now, even though she really didn't know if anything was even still in the oven. "But we'll let you have one when they're ready! We're bringing them to Cara's house because we went to watch the parade today, and she invited us over to have turkey and other Thanksgiving things for dinner, like the pilgrims did on Thanksgiving! And then, you know what happened after that? Like, the next day the Native Americans still thought the pilgrims were nice and stuff, but then they gave them a million kind of sicknesses, even worse than a sore throat or a cold, and they killed all of the nice Native Americans who just wanted to have fun in their lives! It was so rude and I hope you're never like the pilgrims were, Theo. I would have to tell you that we can't be friends and everyone in the apartment building would probably tell you to get out, and we would send you to Alaska or Antarctica, all alone."

If Holly had taken a breath anywhere during that tangent she went off on, Makayla would have cut in to shut her up, but in between grabbing the grocery bag that the redhead predictably dropped by the door, and then managing to carry it and the two heavy ones already in her hand, into the kitchen, she wasn't able to. After she shot Theo an apologetic look, she looked towards Holly and really, really tried to be patient. "We're not sending him off anywhere, Holly. Stop talking crazy like that," she said, as she maneuvered through the kitchen to put the milk and lemonade into the fridge, before unpacking the other bags, since she knew asking Holly to do it would be futile. "Is Deja's turkey in the oven?" Makayla said, addressing Theo now. She knew that Deja was hosting a Thanksgiving celebration of her own, here, so that would've made sense anyway, especially given the smell. "We can put the cookies on a tray, and then you can bring them down the hall and see if someone will let us use their oven for ten minutes, if that's the case," she said, returning to address Holly, then, since she knew that if she didn't finish with that, Holly would throw in some dramatic response about how cookies were still more important than Deja's turkey.

"Unless you tell me the food was made by Maneet, I could care less if all the Chopped Champions plus Bobby Flay made it or even if Guy Fieri approved it," Tony declared over another bite of pie followed by a swig of beer. During the slower nights at the bar, and when the customers present didn't seem to care too much, Tony would turn on the Food Network channel on the flat-screen TV her Dad had gotten installed just before her high school graduation. She didn't watch the channel much when she was young, nor had she known it existed until she reached her twenties, but it had definitely become her mindless television channel to watch. Even during her down time in her apartment, she would grab the crochet blanket her aunt Marisol made for her, sit on the couch in the living room with a blanket around her and a bottle of beer, and fall asleep to one of the chefs swearing vehemently because they belatedly remembered that they forgot to include a basket ingredient.

Nevertheless, Tony wasn't impressed that Cara couldn't have been bothered to make a simple Thanksgiving meal, but had the audacity to have her nose up all of the time. Granted, it wasn't like Tony was around the other woman all the time to confirm that sense of superiority she herself felt emanatating from the blonde, but that didn't stop her from making the judgement. Nor did it stop her from rolling her eyes as Brooklyn told her about the delivery. After all, even if you purchased a pre-made or pre-stuffed turkey, there's nothing stopping you from doing boxed, canned, or frozen sides. Then again, Tony didn't pretend to empathize with Cara's loss of her formerly privileged lifestyle. "Crazy bitch or not, at least you can't say she was trying to poison you. Wouldn't even get to it without poisoning her damn self," she pointed out, sticking her fork in her pie so that she could concentrate on getting her phone out and reading the text she had gotten from Jesse. It made her snort, though the sound got cut off when what Brooklyn said finally registered in her head. "Wait, what? Why?" Tony hurried up and sent the quick response to Jesse, and then set the phone on the table in case anyone else messaged her.

To: Jesse
Sap :p I'll bring the whipped cream

By that point, Brooklyn had moved onto telling herself (because she definitely didn't have Tony's consent to a damn thing) that she could bring Collin to her apartment to do the deed. "And who the hell told you, you could screw anyone in here? Not I!" Tony narrowed her eyes at Brooklyn, shaking her head as she picked up her beer bottle and drank a bit more. Not only could Tony just not fathom anyone using a nice guy like Collin for pettiness (she hadto remind herself that this was her friend she was talking about though) and so a part of her felt protective, she also couldn't fathom the benefit of this plan other than a quick round of fun. And Brooklyn could find that anywhere. "And also, what good is screwing that boy gonna do for you with that girl? She'll be mad cuz you fucked him for like, two seconds and then what? You still gonna be living with the bitch that fucked your man and got away with it without a scratch. Do you know how many bitches have lived with the hoes their brothers have smashed?"

"Come on, Tony. You know girls like Cara don't get even by beating the shit out of each other." Brooklyn grew up in a middle to upper middle class suburb. Her family wasn't wealthy, and financially, they were pretty average compared to her classmates and neighbors. However, they definitely lived in the middle class comfortably. Brooklyn attended nice schools, and their neighborhood possessed low crime rates. That didn't mean that every now and then there wasn't a fight between classmates that she would hear about at school, but they caused enough buzz when they did happen, to signify that they were pretty rare. Her upbringing was definitely nothing like Cara's, and she couldn't compare the lifestyle that her lawyer of a father and account of a mother provided for, with the one that was probably backed by millions and millions of old money that Cara lived, but her childhood was still comfortable and secure. She knew that violence didn't have to coincide with financial status, but she was sure that statistics would point to more in-school aggression in neighborhoods with higher crime rate, and higher poverty levels. It wasn't a world that she even knew existed, really, before being thrust into a life on her own and moving to New York, where you learned not to even bat an eye at the sight of two drunks fighting on the side of the road. As hard and tough as Brooklyn was, though, she had never been involved in a physical fight. She was sure that she would do fine in one, because she didn't take kickboxing classes for nothing, but in regards to getting Cara back in a physical way, it wasn't something that Brooklyn had even considered. Part of it definitely related to how she had never been involved in a life where fighting culture was normal, but also because she was sure with how crazy Cara was, she'd find some way (and some money hungry lawyers to help her), to have Brooklyn locked away for life for attempted murder or something.

"I could've given her karma that way, but that's not what makes girls like Cara tick. They do that underhanded shit, and if Cara had a man that I could steal, I would've already done that. But she doesn't, and the closest thing to a guy that she thinks she owns is her brother." To Brooklyn, all of this made sense, but a lot of things made sense to Brooklyn that just seemed completely illogical to people who liked to think things through more than she did. "I mean... I could try to fuck her dad... but too complicated of a plan right now. We'll save that for Plan B," she smirked, standing up now as she suddenly decided that she was hungry enough for pie. Not for her own slice, but just of a bite of Tony's. It wasn't in Brooklyn's nature to ask before taking, so after grabbing a fork of her own, she dug the utensil into the partially eaten slice in front of Tony and allowed the rich dessert to melt on her taste palate. "Damn, Garcia. Now that I'm no longer taken, I might just have to put a ring on you. A drug connect was fun while I was young, but now that I'm a grown woman, I think all I need is a bitch who can cook," she teased, sporting a sultry voice. To add to it, she pulled the rest of the pie off of the fork and popped it into her mouth, sucking the last remnants of the dessert off of her finger. Brooklyn wasn't playful or even friendly with most people, but surprisingly, it came easily with Tony.

Being positive required some effort, but for the most part, Cara wasn't the Thanksgiving version of a Bridezilla. The food smelled good, and though she had only reheated them after being delivered from a couple of different upscale restaurants in the city, she decided that she had a right to take pride in the traditional holiday smell that filled the apartment. If the place had happened to smell like smoke and burned food, she would have easily blamed her brother, but since things were going well, she decided to hold onto the credit. Collin had pulled the turkey out of the oven about forty-five minutes ago, and Cara stood beside him at the counter as he carved into it. Surprisingly, she kept her mouth shut too. As each sliver fell off of the cooked bird, the voice inside her head was running rampant about how he was either cutting it unevenly thin or thick, and how he was completely incompetent, but the more rational side of Cara knew that in reality, he was doing just fine. There was no way that she would be able to do any better, at least. With Brooklyn, Jesse, Jude, herself, Collin, Makayla and Holly present, there would be just enough room at the table for the seven of them, if they pulled over one extra chair to add to the original six. It would be tight, yet doable. However, given that she wasn't particularly close with Jude, did not want to have to sit across from Brooklyn, and understood that the entire table would probably have a headache if they were forced to sit with Holly all night, Cara decided that sitting at the table would be optional. There were two extra seats at the kitchen island, plus the couch and chair in the living room that people could sit at. Casual wasn't usually Cara's idea of a good party, but she didn't think she had anyone to impress here. No, she knew that she had no one to impress here. The only reason why she was having Thanksgiving was to prove a point to her father. If it had only been her and Collin here, she would have been just as content as having the other four included too.

Halfway through Collin's carving, Cara realized that the turkey she ordered was probably over sized given the amount of people here. She stopped Collin then, and took the plate containing the pieces he had already cut and set it down on the table, where the numerous other side dishes were laid out. Though she was hungry now, especially with the smell of so many foods flooding her senses for the past hour, she wasn't going to make a plate immediately. That wouldn't have been the proper thing to do as a hostess, she decided. Besides, refilling her glass of wine was more important than food, so as she made her way over to the counter where she had laid out various alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink choices, she called out, "The food is ready. You guys can make a plate and eat wherever, if you're hungry," as nonchalantly as possible. She liked playing hostess, and preparing a party was enjoyable to her, but again, the crowd that she was serving didn't make her feel like she had to bring her A-game. Their opinion of her Thanksgiving wouldn't matter that much to her, partially because she didn't care, but also because there was still that part of her that knew that they were below her. No Thanksgiving that they had ever experienced could compare to the ones that she had, back at home, she thought. Their rinky-dink get togethers with their tacky aunts and uncles were laughable in comparison to the posh celebrations her family hosted. In Cara's world, it was the image that mattered, and that's why hers were superior. She had never really experienced a family party or family bond in itself, where the emotions and memories were more important than how expensive the wine was, or how A-list the guests were, so she didn't understand that there were some people who only cared about having a good time at parties, no matter what else happened.

Collin had a lot of patience in him, and that was the only reason for why he made it through the afternoon, dealing with Cara's constant over-his-shoulder presence. On good days, she was simply annoying, but on days like today, she was closer to being unbearable. Did she not realize that he was only here to do her a favor? He easily could have been sitting in the dining room of their father's home right now, as the house staff literally carried their food to them on silver platters. Yet, here he was, slaving away over a Thanksgiving meal that she was going to take credit for (and criticize him for, in the process). He didn't even want credit, because it wasn't like either of them had actually done anything with these dishes other than cook or reheat them. All of the hard work had been done at the restaurants that had sent them here, so it wasn't even that Collin wanted to be praised for work he didn't do. All he wanted, was for his sister to get off his back and start thanking him instead. This was Cara though, and Collin was the smart one in the family, so yeah, he was well aware that that was never going to happen. If he had nothing else to be happy about tonight, at least right now, Collin was just happy that all of the food was on the table, and he could finally try to relax. Makayla and Holly were always pleasant, and Jude was always good company too, so he figured that the night didn't have to be a complete train wreck. Worst case scenario, he decided, he could sneak back to his room after dinner and just finish the art history paper he had been trying to complete all morning.

He had forgotten entirely of Weston's promise to stop over, until there was a knock at the door. Collin already had a plate in his hand at that point, but hadn't put anything on it, and given that he was the closest person to the door as he rounded the corner of the island, he figured he should open it. He was glad he did too, given that he hadn't seen the text Wes sent him. "Hey, Holly! Look who finally showed up!" was the first thing that came out of Collin's mouth after opening the door. He turned back to Weston with a smirk, though it was a good-natured one. He was sure that Wes was going to give him some bullshit excuse for why he couldn't stay, and though Collin doubted that he would be able to talk him out of abandoning him so quickly, Holly might be able to. Even if she couldn't change his mind, the way that she could run her mouth could leave Wes stranded here for twenty extra minutes, depending on how many times Collin suggested she tell Wes more about the dog she had mentioned seeing at the parade, or about what she was thankful for today. Exploiting the girl's good nature was probably mean, but Collin couldn't help himself from getting a laugh out of it at Weston's expense. In his defense, it was usually him who had to listen to all of Holly's stories when Cara brought her over here, so allowing Wes to feel some of his pain (in terms of this Thanksgiving gathering and that) seemed only fair. "Sorry man, but not even one of Tony's pies is enough to get you out off your friendship obligation with me to at least see what I've got to put up with for the night, so step on in," he said, stepping aside to welcome Wes into the apartment.

"Β‘Usted bastardo codicioso!" {You greedy bastard!} Tony shouted just as she was about to bring her beer bottle to her mouth, turning away from the door to see Ricky already popping one of the platanos in his mouth. He chewed around a grin, unashamed and Tony picked up the nearest object - a pen - and hurled it at him. The son of a bitch had the audacity to duck laughing. "You can't even wait for Wes to get back or at least to bless the damn food. I have a guest coming!" Which wasn't really as much of an issue as she was trying to press for it to be, but it wasn't uncommon to have to smack greedy hands from the food when no one had blessed it. Tony didn't think of herself as devoutly religious, but that didn't mean she had forgotten her Roman Catholic upbringing. She still prayed before she ate meals, though she performed it rather quickly, kept at least one bible around the apartment so one of her relatives didn't think she was a flat-out heathen, and she had never thrown away her mother's rosary. Didn't dream of it. "It's a bit blasphemous to get all god-fearing in the same breath that you used a curse word with," Emmanuel stated, because he was a smart ass, at the same time as Rick inquired, "Did you kiss your mother with that mouth?" Tony's response was an icy "Β‘Vete al infierno!" {Go to hell!} and a satisfied grin as Miguel smacked his son on the back of his head just as Tony heard Sam come in. Smirking, Tony hurried up to text Brooklyn, even though she had just sent Wes over, to see how dinner was going.

To: Brooklyn
How's ur first class dinner? U didn't carve her instead of the turkey right?

Tony beamed at the white-haired woman the second she heard her question, purposefully raking her eyes over her friend's form in appreciation. There was rarely an instance Sam didn't look good to Tony, but she could tell there was effort put into the girl's appearance when there normally was no need to do so. And her friend looked good. Tony felt inclined to admire. "They're all blood-thirsty mutts anyway, so we could use a cute little stray like you," she declared coquettishly and positively cackled when she felt her uncle shove at her from behind with his boot, making Tony stagger forth through her laughter. Her eyes fell on the items Sam brought with her, her grin widening. "See, and you're a nice guest!" Tony turned a half-glare at her cousins while continuing, "At least Sam loves me enough to bring me something. You all suck." Ricky pointedly shot her the bird and Tony gave him one back. Wrapping an arm around Sam, she brought her into the living room a bit more, gesturing to each person as she went. "You remember my uncle Miguel and that shithead Ricky, he's not as sexy as he thinks he is with that new cologne he's got on so don't buy into his bullshit if he tries to hit on you. And that's Emmanuel and that's Alex. Guys, this is Sam. Get up, boys, make yourselves useful and figure out which one of you are gonna pray over this feast I have humbly prepared for you selfish bastards." Tony knew her family could be a bit rough around the edges, but she had never bullshitted around the fact that her family was rowdy. They fought and griped on a regular basis, but loved just as much as they hated. They were possessive about their own and stubborn to a fault, traits she herself had picked up, but her family thrived on being just that: a family. And even though she was going to wind up kicking them out and going to a friend's eventually, she wouldn't change a damn thing about them and she wasn't about putting on airs for the sake of giving Sam (or anyone) some fake glimpse into her family life. They were who they were and most of her friends (and even those she wasn't close to) had learned to accept that fact, or just stay out of her life.

The game that was currently on was the Redskins vs. the Cowboys, and to put it lightly, Jesse was getting into it. He wasn't a fan of either team, with the NY Giants holding a special place in his heart, but the dedication to his team led him to dislike the Cowboys, who had become a rival team in recent years, and because of that, he wanted the Redskins to win. The Cowboys were 9-1 up until now, though, so Jesse wasn't betting on a loss on their part, even if he was hoping for one. By the time that Cara called out that the food was ready, the Redskins already appeared to be on their way to getting their asses handed to them, so Jesse was ready to flip the television off. He was surprised, however, to hear Makayla call out towards him, and yet not to him. As he cocked his head to the side, he noticed that Holly was still sitting on the couch with him, with only a cushion separating them. Could it be though, that she had been there since she sat down about twenty minutes ago... and he didn't hear a word come out of her mouth since then? The confusion was evident on his face as he looked at the younger girl, who's zombie like stare only faltered when the screen went black. "Didn't know football was your thing, Little Red," he commented, raising his eyebrows in genuine surprise as he got to his feet.

"It's not. Cara said that they're doing a rerun of the dog show that I missed watching earlier because I was out at the parade and stuff, but Makayla said I wasn't allowed to tell you to turn your football game off, so I was waiting for you to finish. Why are they called Redskins?"

He guessed he had something to thank Makayla for after that, because he was sure that if Holly had made a big deal about watching the program she wanted, Cara would've come over and made him change it, even if Makayla insisted he didn't have to. Maybe I'll toss her an extra twenty the next time she wants some of this dick, he thought, readjusting his decision to thank her in a more appropriate manner. Holly wouldn't be Holly if the things she said and questions she asked were normal ones. She was like a child in a lot of regards, but especially in how innocently blunt she was with the things she said. She called things as she saw them. "That's a good question. You should ask Brooklyn if you can use her laptop so you can look it up, and then tell me why they're called that after you figure it out," he suggested. It was the easiest response for him because for one, he knew he would get a laugh out of seeing Holly pester Brooklyn, and two, he didn't feel like trying to explain that the term "Redskin" was actually seen as an offensive and derogatory word for Native Americans. He left it at that with the girl for now, though, in favor of following his nose to where all of the food was lined up in the kitchen. Tossing the two empty bottles of beer that he had downed in the last few minutes into the waste bin first, he then grabbed a plate, just as Collin went to answer the door. "Since I'm sure Demarco is about to friend zone it up wherever Brooklyn's sitting," Jesse said, purposely speaking loudly enough for them all to hear, "I think I'll sit next to our beautiful hostess tonight." He announced it as if it were legendary news, but surprisingly, his attention was all on the food in front of him. By the time he had passed by every dish, his plate felt like it weighed twenty pounds and there wasn't room for anything else, even if he wanted more.

Although Holly had heard Makayla and Cara both say that it was time to eat, she remained seated on the couch, even after Jesse left. Now that the remote was in her hands, she was able to navigate through the channels until she found the National Dog Show rerun, from when it had originally aired earlier this afternoon. Food was important, and Holly was excited to have a real Thanksgiving turkey for the first time ever, but dogs came before everything. It was a random obsession for Holly to have, and when exactly it developed, she would never be able to pinpoint. When she had first moved in with Makayla's family, one of Makayla's father's friends always had a Pitbull that he would bring over. It wasn't a nice dog at all, and Holly knew after receiving a few growls or snaps at that it wasn't a dog to be played with, so it wasn't like she loved the animals forever. In fact, she was probably actually scared of them at that point. Somehow, though, the fear eventually disappeared and dogs became her "thing". She loved seeing them while she was walking on the streets, and maybe it was because she wasn't allowed to have one that she wanted one even more, but whatever it was, they were her current fixation. An entire program dedicated to finding the best dog in the world was something that seemed like it was made just for her, and she barely even stirred, initially, when Collin called out to her. It was only simple luck that allowed a commercial break to come right after his words, and that allowed Holly enough of a distraction to stand up to see who the blonde was talking about. Her face lit up at the sight of Weston, and she hurried towards the door. "Happy Thanksgiving, Westy boy!" she said energetically. "You made it just in time for dinner and the dog show. We've been waiting for you!" she said, grasping his forearm in excitement, before noticing what was in his hands. "Cara! Wes brought us a pie and he said that Tony's on her way over with macaroni and cheese and gummy bears!" she exclaimed, though she laughed aloud following this, as if it were her own little joke.

As much as she told herself she was fine, Brooklyn definitely felt out of place spending a holiday this way. She hadn't spent a holiday with her family in so long, that she no longer really felt like that was how holidays were for her. It had been far too long since she and her parents and Kate had traveled to Connecticut to their grandparents house for Thanksgiving, where all of their cousins would gather. She remembered how much she enjoyed playing games with her cousins, who were all close in age with her, and how Kate loved to tag along and act like one of the "big kids". She could remember how nice their grandparents house would smell once the food started coming out of the oven, and how many times the adults chided them for being too loud at the kids table, and yeah, she missed it a bit, but it felt too foreign for her to get sentimental over, if she didn't think about it for too long. What had become her way of celebrating Thanksgiving for the past few years, was celebrating it with Nick. Jude would be included sometimes, too, but for the most part, for her, Thanksgiving meant sleeping all day, usually a fair amount of sex, and then going to get pizza or ordering in take out, and finally, seeing a movie in the theaters. Nick always told Brooklyn that she was demanding and materialistic, but her idea of a perfect holiday was that, and overall, it was pretty simple. Simple, and yet all she needed, and now that she was experiencing her first year without that, she was beginning to realize more and more that that was all she needed and wanted. She just didn't want that with someone who would cheat on her, even if he claimed that it wasn't technically cheating, since they had been broken up at the time. Technicalities didn't count in her mind though, because with their tumultuous relationship, they were breaking up almost once a week, and then getting back together the next day after some makeup sex. She knew that their separations weren't real, and so did he, so it was just as much cheating as it would have been on any other day, in her mind.

After leaving Tony's, Brooklyn had still been in the mindset that she could keep her spirits up, simply out of the desire to be vengeful. She didn't have to have energy to be positive and happy, but she could use it to look forward to getting back at Cara. As the hours passed, though, the realization that she wasn't going to be happy even if Cara was unhappy too, began to set in. Her relationship with Nick wouldn't suddenly be mended if she wronged "the other woman". That didn't mean that she wasn't still set on getting back at Cara, because even upset, Brooklyn still was Brooklyn. She just felt a lot more uneasy as the day began to remind her of what she had lost, that was all.

She had been in and out of her room over the past thirty minutes, but upon hearing Cara say that the food was ready, she figured it was time to go out. She didn't want to leave Jude stranded with the rest of these people, if nothing else. Though she could already tell that the food was going to be amazing, simply from the smell, she initially passed by it and headed towards the drinks. Cara and Makayla stood there, but that didn't deter her. When Brooklyn wanted liquor, nothing could stand in her way. While the other two girls seemed to be sticking to wine, Brooklyn opted to pour herself a Jack and Coke. With the way she was feeling, she was surprised at herself for not already being ten glasses in.

She would have started off the evening with some underhanded comment directed towards Cara, but the knock on the door caught her attention, and she watched Collin answer it. He's not ugly, she told herself, as she tried to imagine him with his clothes off. He truthfully wasn't ugly, either. If anything, he was actually quite attractive, but Brooklyn doubted she could shake that "younger brother" vibe he gave off, for long enough to actually see him as an equal. She watched as he pulled a move that she found to be very respectable, by essentially forcing Weston to stay longer than he likely intended, by goading Holly over. "Westy boy," Brooklyn repeated, approaching the trio and seemingly mulling over the nickname for a moment, before nudging Holly lightly as she passed by. "I like it," she decided, in approval of the moniker. Brooklyn and Weston weren't even really that close, where she could tease him that naturally, like she could his sister, but to Brooklyn, the depth of a relationship didn't really matter. She just liked to fuck with everyone, when she saw an opportunity. "It's funny you mention mac and cheese and gummy bears, Holl. Tony told me the same thing, that she was planning on bringing those over, when I spoke to her earlier. Someone needs to remind that girl that it isn't polite to be this late to a party." She had caught Jesse's obnoxious comment about how he would have sat next to her, if he didn't expect Jude to "friendzone" and take that seat, and though it had elicited an eye roll from her, she hadn't responded to it directly yet. Jesse was attractive, yes, but he was incredibly obnoxious, and persistent to the point of being pesky. "Yes, Jude, my love, please come friendzone it up. I need some intelligent conversation with my turkey, tonight," she said, placing her drink down for a moment, so she had two free hands to make a plate of food. Before she started browsing the food selection, however, she had to text Tony back.

To: Tony
Uneventful so far. And yours? Big sister let little brother abandon ship this early? I'm shocked! Also, Wes said you're dropping off macaroni and cheese and candy in a few minutes? Look at you with all these surprises up your sleeve, wifey!

Jude had been avoided direct contact with everyone. He wasn't particularly pleased the majority of his company. Namely Jesse, who was honestly just the worst in Jude's opinion. Then there was Holly, who could be funny at times but she was too excited to even say something remotely interesting. And of course, the queen of it all, Cara. She had managed to remain calm through the rest of the "cooking" process, which Jude marked as an achievement, but now he was dreading the rest of the evening sitting at the same table as her.

He mostly spent the awkward time before everyone was silently stuffing their faces with very slowly and intentionally serving himself a drink. Weston came to door but Jude ignored it, he stood by the drinks and slowly sipped his bourbon. His green eyes scanned over the room, catching some with distain and others with appreciation. As he was actively ignoring the commotion around him, Jude drifted off into his own thoughts. He thought about later tonight with Olivelle and began to daydream of all the scenes that could play out. Jude wasn't stupid by any means, but he wasn't exactly the smooth talking guy that got all the girls. Honestly, he was just glad that she had agreed to come with him.

When Jude heard Brooklyn speak he snapped out of it. That was his cue. "Gladly," he said as he made his way to the chair next to her. "Anything for you, darling." Jude cooed while he put his arm around the back of Brooklyn's chair. Jude smirked at Jesse as he took another swig of his bourbon. Finding no interest in verbally communicating with Jesse, Jude looked at the vast array of food. At least Cara hadn't taken it upon herself to cook because the only redeeming qualities about this dinner was going to be the food and the booze.

The brunette settled into his chair and watched his peers gather their food first. He often liked wait to serve himself last. There was always plenty to go around and he absolutely wanted to avoid any awkward arm bumps, snatching a serving right before someone else, or the dreadful grabbing of the same spoon. So there he sat, feeling a slight victory over his jab at Jesse, and waited.

"You really don't have to thank me!" Cara insisted, waving her hand, that wasn't holding her glass, nonchalantly. "I'd rather you and Holly be here, over Collin and I just eating alone," she then continued with a smile. She refrained from bringing up how Holly and Makayla would also be a good distraction for her, considering that Brooklyn and Jude's company was unwanted. She had extended the dinner invitation to the two of them simply out of politeness. They paid rent to live in the apartment, and so, if she was holding a get together, albeit a small one, sending an invitation their way seemed obligatory. She honestly had imagined that Brooklyn, at least, would have turned down the invitation, for obvious reasons related to their falling out. It didn't make sense that the girl that hated her so much would want to break bread with her at the same table, but then again, Cara supposed that this could be something like Jesus' last supper. Maybe Brooklyn was plotting to betray and kill her tomorrow, or something, she envisioned, as if she could somehow be compared to Jesus. She and Jude weren't immeasurably close either, but Cara minded his presence less than she did Brooklyn. He remained quiet, for the most part, and when they did talk, like earlier this afternoon, he was friendly enough. She understood that it was probably simply out of feeling forced to be kind or polite, but the motives behind it didn't matter, because she could be fake too. Jesse was here too, and his comment that alluded to how badly he wanted to get into Brooklyn's pants made Cara crack a smile, if only because it was a nice signal that there was someone here who was on her side. Jesse wasn't on her side in terms of being anti-Brooklyn, per se, but he was a real friend of hers. Cara trusted Jesse and she knew that he was here because their friendship was real. He, along with Makayla and Holly, and herself and Collin, would have made a fine Thanksgiving dinner, she decided. She didn't need or want Brooklyn or Jude here, but it was what it was, and as long as Cara had her wine, she decided that she could get through anything that this night threw her way.

As she took a step away from Makayla and towards the food, her gaze was averted towards the door, where Collin stood now with Weston Garcia and Holly. Holly called out to her about how Wes had come over to deliver a pie, and how his sister was planning on stopping by with macaroni and cheese and candy, and that comment seemed to elicit Brooklyn's presence, because the blonde chimed in that she heard that Antonia was planning on coming over as well. Initially, it took a lot of self-restraint for Cara to not shoot a glare in her brother's direction. She hadn't invited Tony over, but she wouldn't have doubted that Collin did. Weston was one thing - Cara actually thought he was a nice kid, from the little that she knew of him. His sister though... she just seemed like a bitch. No, Cara didn't know her personally, but she didn't have to. The girl just gave off unwelcoming vibes, she reasoned, and that was enough for her to decide that she didn't want to be friends with her. It wasn't like she cared enough to hate Tony, and it didn't even bother her that Collin seemed to enjoy hanging out at her bar from time to time, but she felt like it was a different story to welcome her into their home, unexpectedly, on Thanksgiving of all days. Though Holly's laugh might have been a signal that she didn't need to take the comment very seriously, Cara had no reason to believe that the younger girl was lying. It wasn't like she wasn't smiling or laughing 99% of the time that she was awake. "You don't want to eat mac and cheese on Thanksgiving, Holl!" Cara opted to respond with, as she placed a hand on the girl's back to usher her away from the door. "Remember how you told me you were so excited to try real Thanksgiving food? Today's the day you get to try it and see for yourself if you like it."

It didn't take long for Brooklyn to help herself to a fair share of food. It had been a while since she had had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, but unlike Holly, she knew what Thanksgiving entailed, and it didn't take long for her to find the majority of foods she used to eat, back when she spent Thanksgiving with her family, on Cara's table. There was turkey and hot mashed potatoes, stuffing, vegetable sides, casseroles, warm rolls, and an assortment of other dishes. Though she usually actually enjoyed salad, today was one day where Brooklyn didn't think she would have room left over in her stomach for the leafy greens. As she took a seat next to Jude, she watched Cara usher Holly away from the boys at the door. Brooklyn could have let it be, and just settled in to eat her food, but that wouldn't be very Brooklyn-like. She paused for a second though, only to read Tony's text message, and to respond.

To: Tony
Whatever. Just know I rolled my eyes at you trying to sound like you just graduated Oxford. Not all of us have the dictionary to consult 24/7. Cool it with the vocab.

When her phone was back on the table, she could have opted to start stuffing her mouth with food like her stomach was telling her to do, or she could have even elbowed Jude and told him to put his drink down for just a second to go get food, but instead, she looked across the kitchen to where Holly and Cara stood. "Cara's right, Holly," she chimed in. "Turkey is the best part of Thanksgiving. I heard she prepared this one all by herself. Didn't you, Caraline? She went out to the woods or wherever the fuck turkeys come from, shot this one, and brought it back here for you to eat." It wasn't morally right to instigate, but it was undeniably amusing to her. She poked her fork into a piece of the meat, and only after stirring it around in the shallow puddle of gravy that had formed next to it, did she raise it into the air. "Do you like your turkey with blood in it still, though, Holly? It looks like Cara forgot to drain it all."

Holly was so energetic, that a lot of the time, by the time that Makayla noticed that she was doing something that was less welcome than the redhead thought it to be, it was already done and over with, and she had moved on to the next thing. That was the case with her interactions with Weston, it seemed. Makayla liked the younger Garcia, she really did. He seemed to be as genuinely nice to Holly as a kid their age could be. She wanted to give her sister the best and most normal life possible, and though she knew that Weston was probably somewhat only nice to Holly out of pity, she appreciated that he could at least pretend to be a normal friend to her, so much so that Holly was convinced that he was. Nevertheless, it still made Makayla feel uncomfortable when she felt like Holly was infringing on other people's space. It didn't matter that Collin had been the one to call Holly over to the doorway, or that Weston and Collin both seemed fairly unperturbed by her sister. It was just a thing that Makayla had, where she couldn't stand the idea of her or Holly overstepping their boundaries with people. Really, it was at a point where she was nearly paranoid by it. Whenever anyone wanted to do anything kind for them, it was instinctive for Makayla to assume that it was being done out of pity - that the person didn't actually care for them, but found them to be so pathetic that helping them out would count as their good deed of the week. It didn't mean that she didn't appreciate people's kindness, but it often left her feeling uncomfortable, because she hated owing people things, and yet, at the same time, she couldn't repay people. It was easier to not accept anything, to stay out of people's way, and to do what needed to be done on your own. Of course, that was easier said than done with Holly as a sister, considering that while Makayla was confident that she could live a hermit-lifestyle at this point, her sister was the exact opposite.

Cara was ushering Holly away from the door by the time that Makayla said the half-made plate down on the counter to reach them. "Sorry about that," she said, almost instinctively to Cara, even though she wasn't quite sure what she was even apologizing for. For Holly being too loud? Too friendly? Interfering with whatever Collin and Weston were doing? Somehow, an apology always seemed due, just in case. "What do you want to ea--" she had begun to ask Holly what she wanted on her plate, when Brooklyn spoke out, and it wasn't the first time that the blonde's words left Makayla biting her tongue. Makayla knew how Brooklyn worked, in a sense. The blonde liked needling people and getting a rise out of them. She liked stirring the pot and causing trouble. Apparently, it was entertaining. Why, she chose to sometimes be nice, and other times, take on this personality, Makayla didn't think she would ever understand, but she was never amused by this side of Brooklyn. Not only was it unnecessary stress for Makayla to deal with, but it bothered her when people belittled Holly for the sheer purpose of amusement. Her obliviousness was innocent, and in reality, it was sad. Lying and tricking her into believing things or riling her up, for the sole purpose of causing problems was messed up, and what made it more infuriating, was that Makayla was sure that Brooklyn knew with. She wasn't stupid, Makayla knew that.

Though Makayla often came off as being passive and quiet, she, too, had another side. She was raised in the South Bronx, and though she hated that the idea of one's home turf represented who they were as a person, she knew that her upbringing had made her tougher than she let on. Even if it wasn't the fact that she was raised in a very low-income area, where the schools were underfunded, the kids didn't give a fuck, and fights broke out in class every day, it wasn't like she had a great home life. Her father was a violent criminal who didn't care about anyone other than himself. If Makayla didn't know how to fend for herself, she wouldn't have made it out of there, and though she rarely alluded to it, there was a small part of Makayla that wanted to claw Brooklyn's eyes out whenever she made a commotion like this. It was disrespectful, that was the bottom line, and yet, Makayla knew she had too much to lose if she were to go and do that, so like always, she bit back her pride and ignored the blonde. "It's not blood, she's joking," she said, trying to brush over the topic as quickly as possible so as not to allow Holly to engage in it, but also to avoid offending Cara. "And it looks like it tastes really good. So, you want turkey, and what else? I don't want to put anything on this plate that you're not gonna eat."

"That's so nice of her," Cara smiled, when Weston explained why he was here. She looked towards her brother, who now had a pie in his hands, before looking back towards the Garcia boy. "Tell her she didn't have to do that, but we appreciate it." Did she like Weston's sister? No. However, that didn't mean that she was going to reject a gift from her. She wasn't going to eat it, because she didn't trust the food that came out of that girl's kitchen, but she was still going to be polite, because that was what hostesses did. It wasn't even being fake, in Cara's mind. It was just fulfilling the role of what she was tonight, and after offering Weston a grateful smile, she turned away, to find Makayla by her side and apologizing for something. She didn't have time to respond and brush it off, before Brooklyn opened her big mouth, though. This was the only reason why Brooklyn intimidated Cara, sometimes. This - this tendency she had to go from acting completely normal and civil, which in their books, basically meant just not speaking for a few days straight, to being catty, in the blink of an eye and for no good reason. It was alarming, because it showed how unpredictable the other blonde was, and understandably, Cara didn't like not knowing what to expect from someone that she knew she had wronged. She attributed it to Brooklyn being mentally unstable, crazy, even, and though that was a dramatic stretch, the way that Brooklyn acted still was unusual and very unique to her, because it seemed like she acted this way, even towards her friends. Some days she was nice and normal, and other days, she was rash and insensitive towards their feelings. Even though Cara knew that Brooklyn was trying to actually antagonize her and not Holly, the fact that she would use Holly as a tool for that only aided in Cara's ability to think lowly of the other girl. She was glad that Makayla stepped in to kindly correct Brooklyn's claim that the gravy on the turkey that Brooklyn had was blood, and with a curt, and very clearly fake, smile, Cara said, "No one's forcing you to eat it. I'm sure the McDonald's down the block is open if real food isn't really your style." Brooklyn would be doing the both of them a favor if she left, and so not to allow herself to get even more worked up, she turned away from the instigator and neared where the food was lined up. She paused, however, to text Sam back.

To: Sam
I'm not sure if you're talking about Brooklyn or Collin, but the answer is yes to whichever

Cara knew that Sam was referring to her, but she wouldn't even acknowledged that. It didn't bother her coming from Sam, because Cara was capable of accepting some forms of criticism from her friends, but in general, she disliked the idea that people had of her, being a diva and a drama queen. She didn't like that people assumed that she was a bitch, or condescending, or uppity, just because she had more money than them. A lot of people thought these things of her after having conversations and interactions with her, and that was one thing, but there were others who didn't know her and still thought it of her. She was okay with accepting the image from people who she had interacted with, but she didn't like the idea of having a reputation with people she didn't even know. It was hypocritical, probably, because it wasn't like Cara didn't judge those people herself, too, but it was always easier to see one side of the story when it benefited her.

She decided that now that at least Makayla and Holly, and Brooklyn and Jesse were getting food, that it was appropriate for her to do so as well. Her brother was still lingering by the door with Weston, and Jude was sitting next to Brooklyn without a plate, but she wasn't worried about the two of them helping themselves. Although there was a lot to choose from, Cara opted for a small plate of salad, and a helping of turkey as her meal. It was possible that she would go back for seconds later on, but she was never the type to overeat. It wasn't because she was really obsessed with dieting or anything - she just was never a big eater, even on days like today, that revolved around food. Once she was satisfied with what was on her plate, she sat down at the table, ensuring that there was a seat across from her open for Jesse.

Had Holly not been fascinated with Weston enough to rival her love for Cara and Brooklyn, she would have honed in on what Brooklyn was saying about Cara's Thanksgiving dinner. The comment about the blood, and Cara shooting the turkey herself most definitely would have been enough to have Holly insisting that they go across the hall to demand Tony share some of the macaroni and cheese that she had decided (with no factual basis behind it) that the Garcias were feasting on. However, her mind was lingering on the new arrival, and more specifically, the last part of what had come out of his mouth. As she stood beside Makayla, it was as if she hadn't heard a single word that Brooklyn had said, or that Makayla had said about what she wanted to eat. It was only one more example of how difficult it was for the girl to focus. Sometimes her mind lingered on unimportant things for unnecessary sums of time, while other times, she couldn't remain focused on anything at all for longer than three seconds. "I didn't know that Tony had family besides Westy," she pondered aloud, her tone suggesting serious confusion, as if not knowing something about the Garcias was absolutely life-changing. Westy was a new nickname, and the charm of it likely wasn't going to wear off anytime soon, now that it was stuck in Holly's head. "Do you think she has a grandma? Remember how I always wanted a grandma who knew how to make sweaters out of yarn, and who lived in a little cottage that always smelled like chocolate chip cookies? Remember how I told you about that, that time? Do you think Westy's grandma is like that? And she's probably so short because she's so old and she has glasses and wrinkly skin and a purse with tissues and candy in it."

And just like that, before she would even allow Makayla a moment to respond, she had sprung from her sister's side and was headed back towards the door, where Collin and Weston stood. "Can I meet your grandma, Wes?" she inquired. Had she not already asked Cara enough questions over the course of friendship, she would have asked Collin why his grandmother was not here as well, but she already knew that the woman lived in Florida... which Holly automatically assumed meant that she lived right around the corner from Disney World, which was one more reason for why she liked to insist that she and Cara go visit the woman some time soon. She had never been to Disney World, or any amusement park for that matter. "And you should probably change out of your skinny jeans when we go there, because I don't think grandmas like skinny jeans like yours," she continued, as if she were only doing him a favor, as she eyed him from top to bottom.

Despite the smile and the pleasant tone Cara used with him, Wes wasn't sure if he actually could stay for much longer in the blonde's apartment. Hanging out with Collin was fine, sure, and the invitation was surely tempting, that much was sure. Who really wanted to turn down the prospects of free food that he was pretty sure was going to be superb if Cara's reputation had anything to say about it? But considering the exchange between herself and Brooklyn, and just the simple fact that he wasn't exactly his most comfortable about the older Forrester sibling, Weston was pretty sure what he was not about to do and that was overstaying his welcome. Smiling at the blonde, he turned back to Collin with a pointed look. "I can accept it," he stated lowly so that only his friend could hear him. "I'm a punk, that was my cue to leave, and I'm pretty sure your sister doesn't like me, so I'm just gonna go, man."

And he would have left it at that. Wes was pretty much prepared to turn when, for some odd reason, Holly's conversation somehow included him and she was back in his orbit. Wes' face scrunched up momentarily at her inquiry, especially when it was followed by the scrutiny and he couldn't help but look up at Makayla a touch cluelessly. But he couldn't blame her for this one. Holly's mind, a fascinating thing to him, could go from a range of topics in under a minute. It was definitely troubling for her to randomly ask about his family, but Wes eventually smiled at her, albeit sheepishly before stating, "See, the only problem with that Holly, is that I'm pretty sure you don't want to go to a graveyard. Because...um, that's where my grandma is." His smile became a bit brighter at the memory of the older woman and he chuckled while adding, "Though you are right. She wouldn't like my jeans very much."

Internally, Brooklyn's eyes widened at Cara's display of courage in talking back to her. Maybe it was Brooklyn's ego speaking (it definitely was), but she hadn't expected Cara to do anything, other than maybe passively roll her eyes. She especially wasn't expecting any comment in return, once it was clear that Holly wasn't even taking the bait enough to cause a scene, so the retort left Brooklyn surprised. She wasn't going to allow her face to show that though, and rather than snap back at Cara with an underhanded comment of her own, she turned her head to the boy sitting next to her and pushed his shoulder in feigned offense. "Wow, Jude, you're just going to sit there and let her talk to me like that? Clearly, it's getting harder and harder to find loyal men these days!" she scoffed, not genuinely being offended by the stretch of a claim that she was making, but only wanting to make a bit of a scene. "Not to worry! It's not like I don't have a backup plan," she chirped a beat later, as she turned to peer in the other direction. Collin was still talking to Weston, but now that Holly was over there too, she assumed it would be easier to rope the blonde away. She still wasn't sure if she wanted to go through with the plan that she had suggested to Tony earlier, about sleeping with Collin as payback to Cara, but at least interacting with him now, would give her a sense of where she wanted to go later on in the night. "Collin! Would you come over here? I have a question for you!" Her tone had suddenly turned sweet as sugar, once she decided to call out to the blonde in a way that was probably unnecessary loud, given their proximity. It had to be loud, though, because the whole point of it was to be obnoxious. Even if it meant being childishly petty, to an extent that even she wanted to roll her eyes at, Brooklyn was going to make sure that Cara couldn't enjoy this dinner.

"You're not overstaying man," Collin smirked light heartedly. "The party's only just getting started, and I'm being totally straight with you when I tell you that that's the nicest she's been to anyone in here, so I'm pretty sure that means you've gotta stay," he insisted, though he knew that Weston was ultimately going to have to leave. If Collin had it his way, he'd make his friend stay so that he would have someone to survive the night with, but when it came down to it, he couldn't blame Wes for wanting to be across the hall. Cara was one reason for that, yeah, but besides that, he knew that whatever Tony had cooked would be good, and he was sure that the vibes of their celebration would be more pleasant anyway. The only thing that didn't scream tension in their apartment, right now, was Holly, really. And speaking of her... there she was again, asking Weston about his grandmother, who apparently was actually dead. This, Collin thought, could be the basis of an amusing scene if he could get Holly to press the subject. It wasn't typical of Collin, at all, actually, to want to antagonize Holly, but he saw doing it tonight as a way of getting even with Weston. If he was going to have to put up with this all night, Weston could put up with it for ten minutes. However, he was caught off guard by Brooklyn yelling out to him. For an inexplicable reason, he felt his cheeks flush red when he glanced over his shoulder and realized that she really was talking to him. "You're lucky I'm scared of her or else I'd get this to keep you here all night," he whispered to Weston, again, probably speaking of Holly in a way that wasn't the nicest, but also figuring that he was being a nice friend regardless, by basically leaving Weston with that, as his ticket to leave now.

As he approached Brooklyn, he managed to place the pie from the Garcias on an empty counter space beforehand. "Uh, yeah, what's up?" he asked, his hand reaching for the back of his neck in a move that seemed to be synchronized with him feeling awkward or anxious. This was just unusual, it wasn't particularly stress-inducing. Though they lived together, Collin did his best to avoid Brooklyn. He had overheard one too many of her fights with her ex for him to think of her as being anything less than crazy and aggressive. She reminded him of "words of wisdom" that his dad had passed on to him years ago, about how the prettiest ones were always the craziest.

"Jude and I want you to eat with us. Here, sit," she said, speaking for the both of them as she pointed to the empty seat across from her. From what she knew, Jude got along with his roommate well enough that she didn't think she would be bothering him by inviting Collin over, and if she was... well, then Jude was going to have to get over it. When Collin sat down, albeit a bit reluctantly, Brooklyn realized that he hadn't gotten any food yet. If that wasn't a perfect opportunity for her to step it up, then she didn't know what was. "But wait, we can't have you going hungry, Collin. Let me make you a plate," she said, standing up before he could even reject the offer. It was peculiar, to offer to make a plate for someone you barely knew, but for Brooklyn, it felt all too familiar, since she would frequently do it for Nick when he was lazy lounging on the couch or she just felt like playing housewife for the evening. If she could do it for her old man, she could do it for her potential new-man too.

Jude had been actively avoiding this entire debacle. Noticing a lull in the business of the food table, he made his move. Jude worked quickly and sat back down before anyone could really really notice he had left the table. Jude liked almost all food anyway, so filling his plate up wasn't a hard task.

The poor brunette was unsure where to go from here. Knowing how Brooklyn worked, it suddenly clicked for him. Jude knew exactly what Brooklyn was doing. She was trying to get back at Cara by sleeping with her little brother. Jude loved Brooklyn dearly, he really did, and he was fiercely loyal to his closest friends... But he wasn't sure if he could let Brooklyn get away with this. Let us not forget that Collin was also Jude's friend and roommate. Also, this whole casual revenge sex was just kind of crazy to Jude.

So there he sat, stuffing his face and watching in (subtle) disgusted amazement. If he had a choice he wouldn't say anything at all and he would somehow get the message across to Collin in some magical nonverbal way. Actually, if he had a choice he would be at Deja's doing whatever the hell Deja deemed necessary for a Thanksgiving dinner. That way he wouldn't even have to think about this whole scheme. But instead Jude laughed and smiled at his cues, like the good little boy he was while his head spun around ideas of friendship and what was right and wrong.

He could not, and probably would not say anything to Collin. Brooklyn would surely find some way to make Jude's life miserable he messed this up for her. It was also his best friendly duty to support her in all endeavors, right? Jude was having a really hard time with this one.

With the social stress mounting Jude just stared at Collin as he sat down and Brooklyn got up to make him a plate. "Dude..." was all that Jude could stupidly muster up.

"Sorry you got sucked into staying here for dinner, man," Collin said with a quiet chuckle, and a nearly sheepish grin, once he sat down across from Jude. With Jude only giving him a "dude..." as a conversation starter, it would have been impossible for him to gage what was on the other male's mind, and because he already felt uncomfortable with how out of the ordinary it was for Brooklyn to acknowledge him, he found himself talking just to distract himself from the confusion. "Cara won't even notice if you leave, so don't feel like you've got to stick around here because of us, but the food shouldn't be too horrible," he continued, looking towards Jude's full plate, and then again, feeling uncomfortable about Brooklyn's offer to go make him a plate. It was bizarre seeming, really. He assumed that somehow, he was supposed to construe her intentions as kindness, but it was hard to see past how weird it was, to get to there. He and Brooklyn lived in the same apartment, but they were closer to strangers than friends, and what kind of stranger offered to make another stranger a plate of food? Collin had functioning arms of his own, and though he wasn't a picky eater, it wasn't like she knew what he wanted to eat. He supposed that maybe he was overthinking this, and that it was a signal that he needed to start making more of an effort to interact with girls, since clearly, he was horrible at reading them.

Although he was trying to suppress the weirdness that he felt about being invited to sit with Brooklyn and Jude, after a second of silence, he decided that he had to address it. He and Jude weren't best friends, but they were actual roommates, and they got along pretty well. "But, side note: it's not that I don't appreciate having someone to talk to aside from my sister and Holly, but I'm kind of confused about why she wants me to sit with you two. I know you guys are good friends, so I'm not trying to intrude on anything, especially if... well, you know, you're stepping in to pick up where Nick left off," he said. He wasn't trying to be a jerk, not even at all, and was actually quite serious as he spoke. He knew that Jesse was usually just being an ass when he spoke of Jude's "never-gonna-happen" crush on Brooklyn, but Collin wouldn't have been surprised if there was actually something brewing between the two. They were close, closer than most normal friends, and Collin wouldn't blame Jude for going there if he did.

____________________________________
Dane's chuckle in response to Tony's recollection of the night before was only somewhat muffled by the mouth full of food he had. It was funny because Dane knew exactly who Tony was referring to, and he could picture exactly what she was talking about, clear as day. He wasn't around her bar that often to know every usual customer, especially by name, but he was there enough to know who a few of them were, even if he didn't interact with them. For some reason, he had always appreciated how her family's place did a good job at maintaining a balance between old customers and new ones. There were enough familiar faces around the bar to give it a homey feel sometimes, or at least a feel that signified that enough people kept coming back, to an extent where the place was trustworthy. Yet, at the same time, there were enough people his age there, especially on the weekends, where his didn't feel like he was sitting in some rundown dive bar if he stopped by to grab a few drinks after work. It was just an easy and fun spot to hang out at, and for maintaining an atmosphere like that alone, he had to give Tony credit for. Though, having girls like Sam and Deja employed there probably made it easy for a younger crowd, especially of guys his age, to be attracted to it. If you want to be served drinks all night, why not be served by a girl who you're already imagining underneath your bed sheets with you?

"Sounds like I missed out on a good time," he joked, though he was sure that there was at least some truth to that. The following interaction between Tony and Weston made him laugh, though luckily now, he had washed down his food with the rest of his beer. "Hey, man," he greeted Wes as he stood up to retrieve a new beer. He watched the siblings go back and forth, with added comments from their extended family, and it reminded him of home. Even though he wasn't dreadfully missing his own siblings, it was nice, and somehow comforting, to see something that felt familiar to him. "I wouldn't pin you as the type to come from a strict family," Dane admitted to Sam, when he sat down and began to feast on the food that was still left on his plate. "But then again, I guess all grandmas are like that. Mine was pretty by the books, too."

He knew that the plan for after Tony's was Deja's, and he was happy with that, because he hadn't seen Deja in a few days and loved her and all, but... something had him reaching for his phone to text Jesse again, and also send one to Brooklyn. Why he wanted to go to Cara's, he didn't know. Or he did know, but he didn't want to admit that it was because of that stupid crush he had on the blonde. Instead, he wanted to think that he was just curious about how his friends were doing. Yeah... that was all.

To: Jesse
You eating at Cara's or coming to Deja's? I'm at Tony's. Trying to figure out what's next.

To: Brooklyn
Hey Brooke, happy thanksgiving. You're still in the city today, right? At your place, or somewhere else?
