h e i g h t x // x5' 5" xxxxxxxx"Size isn't everything... Just ask your mom."

w e i g h t x // x125 lbs xxxxx'"I'm aerodynamic."

h a i r x // xHer hair is a rich crimson auburn that almost seems to burn against her pale porcelain skin. Wren keeps it about shoulder length. When she decides to wear it down it has a soft and natural wave that frames her face.

e y e s x // xWren's eyes are a rich forest green. Her iris, the closer it gets to the pupil, gets a little golden in hue. Somedays her eyes will appear almost grey but that is impart due her attire and emotional state.

o d d i t i e s x // xShe has a tattoo of pistols on her hips which is visible when she walks around in her suit casually... or naked. She also has a tattoo of barbed wire wrapped around her right bicep. Lastly, Wren has her tongue pierced... For all the right reasons.

a p p e a r a n c e x // xWren is an attractive young woman and she knows it. Luckily for her, her abilities were inherited so she didn't end up with her Daddy's killer looks. She has slender but curvy build, but is also very muscular, even if she doesn't show it. She usually keeps her hair pulled back in a braid or ponytail so it's out of her face when training. More often than not, she is seen walking around in her Deadpool bodysuit, but not completely. Wren has never been a fan of how tight and constricting the suit is. She won't wear the upper portion. Her utility belt keeps the pants half of the suit up while the top half is normally hanging off her hips like some people wear overalls. Then she'll wear either a wife beater or sports bra for comfort. She used to never wear the suit, but found it to be a pain in the ass getting in and out of it for training. This way, she just has to slip the sleeves on and zip 'er up, then she's off.

P E R S O N A L I T Y
xxxxxxxxxxxxx cocky xx sarcastic xx narcissistic xx talkative x

Wren comes off very arrogant and selfish. This does make her seem rude and unapproachable, but that doesn’t keep her from making some friends. She’s a big pill to swallow that not a lot of people can handle because they don’t have the patience for her. But when she does make friends, she is protective over them and cares about them deeply. Wren tries not to show this because it is a weakness that could be used against her. But if it came down to it, she'd risk herself to save them. It helps that it's harder to kill her than most people, so she has that going for her.

She is a twin of her father and lives up to the Deadpool name and expectations. Wren speaks fluent sarcasm and that is her primary language before English. It is a rare thing... A very rare thing for her to be serious. So generally when that happens, it's important. Anyone who knows Wren, knows that she has no reason to lie or sugar coat things. She is harsh and blunt, and tells things how they are, so when she’s serious she intends to drill what she’s saying into that person’s thick skull.

Wren is also very confident and full of herself. She thinks she can do anything, and that she is the best thing since sliced bread. She knows she attractive and can kick ass, and whatever else. She likes to gloat and show off. One thing she cannot stand is when someone upstages her in anyway. It would drive her insane, and she’d keep trying until she could finally beat that person at their own game.

She is called the mouth because she doesn't know how to shut up, and comes by it honestly from her father. Wren is constantly talking, and it’s mostly because she just likes the sound of her own voice. She doesn’t care if no one is listening, half of the time she’s talking to herself anyways. That also being said she has no filter and just lays all her cards out on the table. She doesn't care if people like her or not, because she thinks she's awesome.

H I S T O R Y

There isn't much to Wren's history unlike a majority of her fellow "classmates." She is the bastard child of Wade and Wanda Wilson. It's one of those complicated stories. All she knows is it ended with a one night stand and a pregnancy. You know... Just your typical night. After the birth of Wren, Wanda wanted nothing to do with the her. Surprisingly though, Wade did. Of course, as anyone could guess, Wade Wilson isn’t totally father material but he’d rather try then let who know’s what happen to his daughter. So after Wren's birth, Wade raised her, and Wanda hasn't been a part of Wren's life other than conception and birth.

Wren was and still is the definition of a Daddy's girl but is nothing like a typical daughter. She grew up to be as feminine as a trucker, but with the appearance of a model. It didn't take long for Wade to notice Wren's inherited abilities. He assumed she'd be normal since his powers came from Project X, but that wasn’t the case. She didn’t have his disfigurement, but everything else was dead on.

Wren wasn't raised like most children. Instead of dolls or toys she was given guns, swords and grenades. She quickly caught on to her Father's sense of humor and was cursing like a sailor before age 12. Unlike most children her age, Wren didn't play well with others. She constantly was starting fights, and got expelled from over 10 schools. Eventually Wade just took her out of school all together, and decided to train her, claiming that street smarts were more important than the pythagorean theorem.

As Wren grew up fighting along side her Father, and observing, it didn't take long for her to start picking up the skills Wade possessed. Training with her Dad was her favorite thing to do... Well other than beating the shit out of people. As the years pass, she became more and more talented, controlling her abilities and mastering her skills. That was until one day during training, Wren finally bested Wade in a fight. She got 5 shots in his chest, and cut off his hand by the end of the battle. At first they figured it was just dumb luck. But the following couple months of training, she consistently beat him. So finally Wade accepted that she was better than him, he passed down the Deadpool name allowing Wren to take his place while he relaxes in the Bahamas.

Reluctantly, Wren agreed to go study at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. She still got in just as many fights if not more there, but Professor X refused to expel her. It wasn’t long before he had her training under Wolverine for a majority of her days, considering he was the only one that could really handle her. Once she graduated from Xavier’s school, she recruited into the Descendant Academy by Tony Stark. She’s been at the academy for going on ten years, now pissing off Coulson and Alfred whenever she gets the chance.

The descendants at the academy are no strangers to training, but the past couple months everything has been at the next level. Spontaneous training exercises, simulations or spars without a moments notice to keep the proteges always on their toes, at peak performance. Even the most seasoned descendants at the academy have never seen training as vigorous and extensive as they were currently going through. It didn't take a genius for them to know that they were preparing for something, but they weren't given any information. "You won't always know what you're up against and time to prepare. You should be ready at a moments notice. Ready for anything, prepared for anything and expecting death."

Mycroft Xavier stood in the long narrow corridor that stretched the length of sub-level 23. Numerous doors plagued either wall along the hallway, leading to the elevators. There were no windows, after all, he was underground. But his surroundings were cold, almost medical. Concrete floors and walls, reinforced steel doors and buzzing fluorescents above. Stark made the rest of the tower gorgeous in every way, but the training floors weren't made for beauty. They were designed to withstand whatever these students could throw at them, and then some.

With a sigh, Mycroft raised his left hand which held a clipboard. His right index finger and thumb pulled back the sleeve of his shirt revealing a watch upon his wrist. 03 05 hours. As he readjusted his sleeve, the elevator doors opened releasing Phil and Alfred. They strolled towards him like they had no where better to be. "You're late," Mycroft said, pursing his lips.

"Apologizes Mr. Xavier, I am not used to being up at this hour," Alfred apologized before taking a sip from his hot cup of tea.

"Remind me again why we're up at this hour?" Phil asked as he came to a halt before Mycroft.

"Crash course training exercise. Threats don't wait until they've gotten a full eight hours." Mycroft checked his watch again before flipping through pages on the clipboard.

"Excellent," Phil said dryly as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "J.A.R.V.I.S. 15 minute alarm please."

"Yes sir," J.A.R.V.I.S. replied.

"Tell them to come prepared for battle," Mycroft added.

"Hold on," Alfred interjected, stepping towards Mycroft. "Some of these students use grenades, guns... live weaponry."

"Precisely."

"They should be using sparring equipment, not adamantium blades. This could get them killed," Alfred argued. He was always the tender hearted out of the mentors. He worried more about the students well being than Phil or Mycroft combined.

"That's the point Mr. Pennyworth," Mycroft concluded coldly, marking something off on his clipboard. "J.A.R.V.I.S., the message please."

Of course, Wren wasn't asleep. It was rare that she slept because she hardly ever needed rest. It left her with many nights of either boredom or loneliness. That night was no different. She decided to spend the late hours of the day watching trash TV. She laid on her large sofa without pants, surrounded by junk food and soda.

"What the fuck!? Of course, he's not the father!" she yelled, throwing popcorn at her TV. "That baby is whiter than I am!" she grumbled, shoving another handful of popcorn into her mouth.

An obnoxious beeping noise sounded throughout the towers intercoms, drowning out the results of who the father was. Wren tried to ignore it, snatching up her remote and turning up the volume. She smashed the up button until her TV was at the highest volume, but the alarm only seemed to grow louder as she tried to block it out. "God damn it J.A.R.V.I.S.! This is the only time I can watch Jerry Springer in peace." She growled, angrily shoving the bowl of popcorn off her lap, onto the floor.

"Apologies Ms. Wilson, mentors Xavier, Coulson and Pennyworth request everyone's presence on sub-level 23 in 15 minutes. They ask that you come prepared for battle."

Wren nearly spat her coke out as she took a drink, sitting up quickly. "Woah woah woah, wait a minute!" She threw out her arms like she was trying to silence a crowd, when in reality it was simply an intangible A.I. "You mean to tell me I can come... with my guns?"

"That is correct."

"Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit!" Wren hoped up from her seat. She turned around and hurdled over the back of the couch, rushing towards her bedroom. "You should have said that in the first place. There are more than a few assholes in this academy I'd like to introduce to Bonnie and Clyde." She bee lined for her closet, throwing open the doors. She yanked out her red suit and tossed it onto her bed.

"Bonnie and Clyde?"

Wren popped out of her closet, holding a pistol in each hand. "Bonnie." She waved her left hand. "Clyde." She waved her right.

J.A.R.V.I.S. remained quiet for a long moment. "10 minutes Ms. Wilson."

"Yeah, yeah." She waved her hands towards the direction of the computers voice. "Stupid computer doesn't get my jokes," Wren grumbled as she wiggled into the legs of her red suit, leaving the top half of the unitard handing off her hips.

"I heard that."

Wren rolled her eyes, slipping her guns into their holsters on either one of her thighs. She adjusted the strap of her sports bra before slipping the straps of her katanas' holster over her left shoulder like a purse. Her right hand grabbed a pair of sunglasses off her dresser as she passed it and headed towards the door.

"It is 3 am, there is no sun."

"Oh, so now you make jokes." Wren snorted, putting the sunglasses on and exited out into the hall. She sauntered down the hall to the stairs, deciding to take them instead of the elevator that will quickly be overfilled with other students.

It wasn't long before she reached sub-level 23. Wren kicked open the door, and skipped her way down the hall towards the grim trio. "What's up docs? Why the late night call?"

Alfred smiled towards her while the other two seemed to barely acknowledge her presence. Mycroft didn't even look up and make eye contact as he spoke to her. "Be quiet and take your spot in line."

"Ouch... Daytime doesn't agree with you and apparently nighttime doesn't either."

Mycroft lethargically looked up, pointing his index finger at the line on the ground before him. "Get. In. Line."

Wren held up her hand in surrender as she turned around and moved to stand on the line. But just to spite Mycroft, she removed the swords from her back and dropped them on the ground. They landed with a loud crash before she flopped down on the ground beside them. She rested her hands on the floor behind as she crossed her ankles before her. Wren could tell Mycroft wanted to say something but as he parted his lips to speak, she beat him to it. "I am on the line douche-croft."

Alfred chuckled. "Oh, let her be. It's late."

Mycroft grumbled, looking down at his papers. "You're too soft on them, old man."

***

It seemed the more time Tobias spent in the academy, the harder it was for him to sleep. Everything weighed so heavily on him. He wanted to embrace the academy. Make a name for himself that wasn't associated with Magneto. But his father lead the Brotherhood. And even worse, Mystique was trapped there. He could leave without a second glance if it was just his father, disobey him and lead an attack on the Brotherhood of Mutants. But with Raven there... He was half tempted to spy, just to keep her alive.

The thoughts kept him up at night, boiling at the base of his skull like lava. No matter how many more positives there were to completely joining the Academy, Mystique out numbered it all. She was his mum. Not biologically, but she was. He would rather die one thousand painful deaths before ever harming her... And that was his problem.

Buzz. Buzz.

His cellphone vibrated on the table beside him as he sat on his balcony, reading the Odyssey. Tobias had half a mind to ignore it, but finally caved and withdrew the device from his pocket. Mum illuminated the screen. He slid his thumb across the glass then put the phone to his ear. "I was just thinking about you."

"I had hoped you were asleep... I planned on just leaving you a message."

"It's ok, mum. I was just reading." He closed the book and set it on the table beside him.

"You should try to get some sleep, Tobias. You can't be a hero if you're fatigued."

Tobias chuckled, resting his elbows on his knees. "I'm no hero."

"Not this again... Tobias. Please, do what's best for you. I can handle him."

He rubbed his eyes with his right hand as he sighed. "...It's not that simple. You know what he'll do to you if I—"

Tobias was cut off when he heard the alarm throughout the tower. But the noise wasn't ear piercing or interruptive in his penthouse. Instead, he wouldn't have heard it at all if it weren't for him sitting on the balcony.

"I apologizes Mr. Lehnsherr, but your presence is requested."

"Thank you J.A.R.V.I.S., just a moment." He held up his index finger before speaking back towards his phone. "I must go. Training."

"I'm sure you will excel, my dear. Please, get some sleep after."

"Ok, mum. I love you." Tobias ended the call. He grabbed his book and stood up from where he was sitting. He headed back into his penthouse, slipping the novel into its home on his bookshelf.

"I am sorry for the interruption Mr. Lehnsherr, but the mentors request that you dress for battle and report to sub-level 23 in 10 minutes."

"Thank you." He headed into his bedroom, stopping in the doorway. "And thank you... For silencing the alarm."

"Of course."

It wasn't often that he got the chance to talk to Mystique. He could never call her, and she could only call him if she is able to slip away from Magneto long enough to get away with it. It might be silly to thank a computer for respecting his phone call, but he appreciated it. Even if the call was for a minute, it was important to him.

Tobias sighed, looking at himself in the mirror. He was never one to wear a ridiculous suit like some of the descendants. His father tried to get him his own set of armor, but he didn't want it. Partly because it'd only make him look even more like Magneto, but also because it slowed him down... And you can't blend into a crowd dressed like a Power Ranger. What he was wearing was good enough. He had ample movement.

He stopped by the table that held his helmet on the way towards the door. Tobias pursed his lips, staring at the head piece. Prepare for battle. The alarm didn't seem urgent enough to be anything other than another extensive training exercise. But if he were going into battle... Real battle... He'd need it. He sighed, slipping his fingers through the eye holes in the helmet and picked it up. It was helpful, but it was identical to his father's. Tobias hated how he looked in it... Like a young Erik Lehnsherr.

Tobias had no need for weapons or anything else. With a final glance around his penthouse, he sighed and opened the door. "Wish me luck J.A.R.V.I.S."

"Good luck sir. Although I do not think you need it."

He smiled, closing the door and heading down the hall. Tobias took a deep breath as he pressed the button for the elevator. He was silently relieved when it arrived absent any others. Once he entered it, he held out his left hand, palm towards the ground. Without much effort, he sent the elevator down, past all the other floors, regardless if the called for the lift or not.

When he reached the appropriate floor, he quietly walked down the hall towards the mentors and a reclining Wren. Tobias quirked a brow at the red head, but said nothing as he stood a few feet down the line from her.

"See," Mycroft said pointing towards Tobias but talking towards Wren. "That is how you stand in line."

"Oh, blow it out your ass," Wren scoffed, bouncing her right foot over her left, not even looking in Tobias' direction.

***

Frankie was sound asleep in her bed, snuggled under a mountain of blankets. When the alarm sounded, it rang through her room like the soft chirping of birds and the sounds of leaves rustling in the wind. She groaned softly as she shifted in bed, rubbing her eyes. When she opened her eyes, she sat up seeing as how it was still black as night outside.

"J.A.R.V.I.S.? What's going on?" she asked through yawns, stretching her arms out in either direction. Frankie was tempted to just lay back down and go back to sleep. But she never woke in the night on her own unless it was a nightmare. And considering she cannot remember what she dreamt of, she knew that wasn't it.

"I am sorry to wake you Ms. Parker. But your presence is required on sub-level 23. Your mentors request that you be present in 15 minutes and dress for battle."

Frankie sighed, throwing her blankets off her legs and lethargically climbed out of bed. "J.A.R.V.I.S.? Could you please brew a pot of coffee while I get dressed?"

"Certainly."

Frankie padded her bare feet over to her closet, pushing back the doors. She slid clothes over out of the way to reveal her mothers suit in a cabinet along the back wall. A melancholy smile graced her lips as she took it out. She stood frozen for a long moment, looking over the white and black suit. "Hi mom," she whispered, thumbing over the fabric.

In no time she was dressed in her mother's old Spider Gwen suit, walking out into the living room of her penthouse. Frankie picked up her webshooters that rested on the coffee table, attaching them to her wrists as she made her way to the kitchen. She closed her eyes, inhaling deeply the scent of fresh brewed coffee. "J.A.R.V.I.S. you rock!" she said as she made herself a cup of the wonderfully warm caffeinated drink. She held the mug in her small hands, sipping from it as she exited her penthouse and walked towards the elevator.

It seemed to take extra long that particular moment, and she could have sworn she heard it go down right past her floor, but she was content with waiting and drinking her coffee. When it finally came she stepped on and road it down to the training floor. Frankie walked down the hall, smiling towards the mentors and other descendants that were waiting in line. "Morn—Evening?" She moved to stand beside Tobias, and held her coffee out towards him. "Wanna sip?"

"Thanks," he replied quietly, taking a drink from her mug and then handed it back.

"Wren?" Frankie motioned the cup towards her.

"Oh, you don't want me to drink that," Wren replied. "Then I'll never shut up."

***

Ross snored as his body was swallowed by the giant bean bag chair. The blue light from his TV shined against his face as the Xbox controlled raised and lowered on his chest with his breathing. When the alarm blared throughout his room, he startled awake sending the controller flying across the room. "Aye! Who be there?!"

"Me, Mr. McCulloch."

He groaned, waving his hand like he was shooing the computer away as he rolled over on the beanbag and immediately started snoring again. But it didn't last long when the alarms grew louder. "Yer mother is a fackin' whore!" Ross yelled, lethargically rolling out of the bean bag chair and onto the floor.

"I don't have mother... Unless you want to call Mr. Stark my mother, but—"

"Oy, shut up." Ross pushed off the ground, nearly falling over as he tried to balance on his own two feet. "T'fuck you want?" He rubbed his eyes, dragging his feet as he headed towards his bedroom. But before he entered, the door slammed shut in his face.

"I'm sorry sir, but you are going the wrong way."

"The hell I am!?" Ross rested his forehead against the door, banging his hand weakly on its surface. "Le'me sleep!"

"You are requested to go to sub-level 23 dressed for battle in 10 minutes."

"I'm not goin'." Ross started walking back towards the bean bag chair, eyes barely opened.

"I've been ordered to turn on the sprinklers in your room if you do not come."

Ross growled, kicking the bean bag chair. He wouldn't have cared, he could sleep in rain, shine... Tornado. But everything in his room would be ruined... Especially the arcade. "Fine!" Ross grabbed the closet outfit he could find and nearly put it on backwards as he got dressed, almost falling over as he stepped in the legs of his pants. He snatched up his mirror pack on the way to the door and slammed the door shut behind him as he exited his penthouse.

When he reached the training floor, the bags were prominent under his eyes as he seemed to move in slow motion over to the line. His gaze dragged over to the cup of glorious steamy goodness in Frankie's hand. "Fer the love of God." He didn't wait to be offered a drink. He reached out and took the cup, nearly drinking half of its contents. "Yer a Goddess, Frankeh. Has anyone told yeh?"

Frankie chuckled, taking back the cup. "You look like you need it more than I do."

Ross gave a weak smirk, leaning back against the wall. Even on two feet, his eyes fought to fall. It seemed to take more energy to try and keep them open than it did to remain standing. Every moment or so, rubbing his eyes with a yawn.

Startling a half demon was probably not the best idea in the world, but startling this particular half demon, could very well be the last mistake a person could ever make. A lesson the poor walls of her penthouse learned the hard way as her cape manifested itself and sent spikes into the wall as she darted upright, hand to her chest. "Fucking hell," She said as she caught her breathe, dust falling around her as her cape went back to its fabric-like structure. She looked at her dust covered arms and sighed. "Jarvis!" She called with a bit of a whine.
"Yes, Ms. Simmons,"
"It happened again."She sighed. "I am aware, Ms. Simmons, It will be repaired before you returned." He or It told her and Schuyler nodded. "Kay," She said and rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. "What's this about anyway?"
"your presence is required on sub-level 23, You are to be prepared for battle" He told her and she rubbed the back of her head. "When am I not?" She asked rhetorically, gesturing to her penthouse that looked oddly like two Kryptonians had their way with it. She climbed out of bed and dragged herself into the shower which was working thank Odin. She rubbed her face as she passed the mirror, she never looked in it, she was always terrified of what she might see looking back at her, and it wasn't the demon she was worried about. It was the girl, the human part of her that was losing its battle and fast. Mirrors were to be avoided at all cost. She peeled off her pajamas and climbed into the shower, she planned to be quick but the training had been intesnse, and that was saying a lot coming from someone who was raised as an Asgardian. You'd think she'd be used to this level of intensity but even in Asgard it wasn't this often, or if it was, it would be small bursts of little tasks not mission level training. At least there were people here she like, however few and far between, in Asgard, it just sucked, all the time, they didn't like her and she didn't like them because of it. At least here, when she bitched about the training, she had a few people to bitch right along with her, not tell her how weak she must be to this hard, or how a demon shouldn't even be in the school learning, and that she should be grateful to be in their mere presence. Fuck that noise.

She made her shower quick and dressed in her Asgardian style armor, helmet included and summoned her cape, which flowed behind her like red ink. Hey, she was told to dress for battle, not training.

She made her way toward sublevel 23and saw that Frankie had arrived and was passing out coffee along with a few others that she cared little to mention until Wren made a comment she couldn't resist. "Oh, you don't want me to drink that then I'll never shut up." Now, the smart thing to do here would be not to say anything to provoke the one they called the Mouth, whose sole purpose in life was to gray Schuyler's hair but it was too good to pass up.

"By Odin's Beard! So it's true, this magical place in time when you actually don't speak, actually exists! They said it couldn't be real, it was only a myth!" Schuyler said feigning shock, a hand to her chest."Frankie, call the Daily Bugle! This front page!news! " She said, grabbed Frankie's shoulders, and shaking her just a little. She laughed to herself her as she stepped in line beside Frankie, and nodded to the men. "Boys." Contrary to popular belief, She didn't hate Wren, there were two people at this school that fell into that dark category, Wren wasn't one of them, she was like that pothole you run over every day one the way to work, you know it's there and you could try to avoid it but the effort is pointless, so it's just a part of your daily routine. As she awaited Wren's inevitable response, She gave a respectful nod to the older men, Alfred, Phil, and Mycroft. Believe it or not, she didn't give the teachers any trouble, that was beating out of her years ago.

Jaxon was sprawled across his bed in spread-eagle position on his stomach. When an alarm blared loudly throughout his room, Jaxon jerked his head up from his bed. What the hell, he thought as he blinked the sleepiness out of his eyes. He rolled over and stared up at the ceiling groggily.

"Mr. Storm, you are to report to sub-level 23 in 15 minutes, and be fully dressed for battle."

Irritated look on his face, Jaxon sat up in his bed. "My beauty sleep was interrupted for training?"

J.A.R.V.I.S. responded, "I'm afraid so, sir. It was at the request of your mentors."

Of course it was the mentors, who else would it be. It was probably Mycroft's idea, he's always making them work their asses off. Jaxon sighed and slapped both of his cheeks to wake himself up. As he stood from his bed, the sheets dropped and revealed Jaxon in all of his glory. He had always found sleeping naked to be more freeing. Plus he was always hot, so the less clothes he had on, the better. He lazily scratched his ass as he went to get his suit of his closet.

Jaxon pulled out the human torch suit that was given to him by his father and slid it on. He would wear clothes underneath it, but they would just end up burnt and it would defeat the whole purpose of his suit. Jaxon walked to the mirror in his bathroom and admired himself in the tightfitting suit. He nodded approvingly, it defined his muscles and showed off his ass. His eyes went from his suit to his hair which was slightly ruffled. Jaxon ran his hands though it once and called it good, he normally kept his hair messy anyways.

He called out to J.A.R.V.I.S as he left the bathroom. "Thanks for giving me the message J.A.R.V.I.S, I'm heading down there right now."

"Your welcome, Mr. Storm."

Jaxon reached the elevator and jumped in. As the elevator took him to the training room he quickly lit himself on fire to give himself a little jumpstart. It worked a little bit, Jaxon was beginning to feel more alert. He rolled his head around on his shoulders, hoping that would help as well. Compared to the others, Jaxon would be a bit bare when it comes to gadgets. All he had was his specialized suit whereas they had weapons of every kind. The only other skill Jaxon had was his knowledge in mechanics and what would he do with that? Bring a wrench and start whacking people with it? As amusing as that would be, it would be of no help to Jaxon whatsoever.

The doors opened and he stepped out into the training room. Not many people were here yet, but they were sure to start pouring in soon. He walked over to the line they were seeming to form and listened as Wren and Skye already began to run their mouths. Jaxon found the two of them to be quite amusing. He didn't know how they were both wide awake while he was still shaking off the last of his grogginess, but it didn't surprise him. Especially when it came to Wren as she talked every second of every day. Normally Jaxon would join in the conversation, but at the moment he was too tired to add a comment.

ImageCurled up tightly in a chair, a downy-soft blanket wrapped around her shoulders - one of few luxuries Petra allowed herself - Petra's soft, sleep-slow breathing was the only sound filling her penthouse. A book lay open on the armrest beside her, its worn pages betraying its age. Not for the first time, Petra had fallen asleep reading, too comfortable in her chair to move to bed when she was supposed to a few hours ago. The few lit lamps cast their gentle light around the room, illuminating part of her face, her expression for once relaxed in slumber.

A soft sigh echoed around the walls, J.A.R.V.I.S. clearly reluctant to rouse the sleeping witch. The alarm sounded anyway, its klaxon sounding even louder than it really was given the relative silence in the room. Petra's head shot upright from where it had been resting on the chair, her hair slightly dishevelled, eyes wide and staring wildly around. Before she could gain her surroundings, her palm was already up and ready, a pale red ball of energy pulsing at the ready. "What?"

"My apologies for waking you, Ms. Maximoff, but your mentors request your presence at sub-level 23 in 15 minutes. Please be dressed for battle." The A.I.'s dulcet tones calmed Petra down almost immediately, and she lowered her hand.

"Do you have any idea what they want?" Petra questioned as she threw off the blanket, sitting up and running a hand through her hair to untangle it. She got to her feet, leaving the blanket still draped over the chair, and her book still on its perch.

"Negative, Ms. Maximoff."

"I see. My thanks for the alarm." Petra swapped her comfortable sweatpants and tee for a blouse and jeans, then considered herself in the mirror for a moment. As an afterthought, she pulled a sweater on, and took her cloak off its hanger, pinning it around her shoulders.

As she strode down the hall towards the training room, her heels made a satisfyingly professional clicking noise. She knew some wondered why she, for all her formalities and morals, would bother with a perfect face of makeup and high heels at every situation, but it wasn't quite their place to judge. For Petra, all the little details she put towards putting her best self forward added to her control; she wasn't going to let any part of herself, physical or otherwise, be less than completely in her control.

Mycroft barely glanced up from his notes, but greeted her with a curt, "Petra. Please join the rest." He pointed at the line. Figuring an explanation would arrive soon, she moved to join the rest of the students, positioning herself near Ross, assessing the rest of the group present. Wren, mouthing off as usual, and with Schuyler, no less - birds of a feather flock together, I suppose; Tobias, whom she gave a slight nod to upon meeting his eye; Frankie, as bright as ever; Ross, looking like he was barely awake; and Jaxon, watching the rest like she was. A likely group.

ImageRiley wasn't asleep - as per the norm, he was attempting to keep himself busy by mopping the apartment floor for the third night that week. The sky outside was pitch black, and the tower was mostly quiet, but not Riley. He hummed softly and tunelessly to himself as he worked, taking comfort in the clean swipe of his mop over the floor, and the shine reflected in the lights from outside the window; he had turned all the lights in his apartment off. In any case, he could still see clearly - peak human senses had their positives outside of battle.

"Mr. Barton?"

At J.A.R.V.I.S.'s voice, Riley's mop stilled, and he glanced up. "J.A.R.V.I.S. Is something up?"

"I'm afraid so, sir. Your mentors request that you be at sub-level 23 in 15 minutes, with everything you require for battle."

"I got it. Thanks, J.A.R.V.I.S." Sighing, Riley left the mop and bucket in the bathroom, and grabbed his bow and filled quiver, strapping them to his back, pulling his protective vest on under his sweater. Its presence was betrayed by a slight bulge around his chest, but that was nothing new. Trading his bedroom slippers for a pair of sneakers, Riley loped out of his room, heading for the training room.

The bright lights of the training room hit Riley's eyes, and he instinctively raised a hand to shield them, wincing slightly. He might have been awake, but that didn't mean that the brightness was something he was already adjusted to. "Hi, guys," he greeted, flashing a smile around at the room, still mostly half asleep.

"Riley. Please join the rest." Activity was already underway, he observed, so he joined the rest of the group, wondering what Mycroft and Phil wanted this early in the morning. Some barely spared him a glance, but that was excusable, he supposed, given that most of them had been woken from slumber. "Jaxon. What's up?" he said perfunctorily, nudging the other man's shoulder lightly with a fist.

The TV's music became intense as Conrad watched with wide eyes as Simba's father fell to his death. A pillow was held to his chest as Scar smiled menacing. Conrad buried his face in his pillow, screaming into it.

"SCAR! That's your brother! Why would you-" A loud alarm went off, causing Conrad to fall to the floor in surprise. He looked around trying to pinpoint the source, finally realizing it was the alert bell. "Jarvis! ¡Estoy ocupado! ¿Qué es?"

"I am sorry to disturb your movie, Mr. Wagner. But your presence is required on sub-level 23. Your mentors request that you be present in 15 minutes and dress for battle."

Conrad glanced at the clock on the wall. 3:05 AM! He's been watching movies since ten thirty! Conrad collapsed on his back in defeat. He wanted nothing more than to sleep, but his movie collection kept staring at him until he popped a DVD in. He groaned as the alarm kept sounding off.

'Mr. Wagner, I was informed to tell you that your movie collection would be removed if you did not hurry."

Can you at least play Hakuna Matata while I get ready? Also, check if a red bull is in the fridge, please? I need to stay alert for training."

"Yes, sir."

As the song played throughout his room, Conrad looked for his uniform. His father had passed it onto him once he was admitted to Descendants. He smiled as he touched the red material. Conrad loved the original attire, as boy, with the pointed shoulders. However, his father wanted something more practical so the point shoulders were lost and the whole look was changed to be skin tight, while still being flexible. He would've preferred something more breathable, however, he was told the outfit made him look good. He sighed. Only in this skin. Conrad began his change into his other appearance. The shift wasn't painful, but it can be a shock to his team when he does it suddenly. Conrad stared at his body in the mirror, watching his mocha skin become a royal blue and tail sprout from his behind. His hands began to morph into claws and suction cups replaced his finger tips. His once brown eyes turned yellow, giving him a demonic look. He was a demon, half demon, but still a demon. Conrad grabbed his three swords, slipping them into his carrier belt, as he grabbed the cold Red Bull from his fridge.

"¡Gracias Jarvis! ¡Eres el mejor!"

"You are welcome, Mr. Wagner."

Conrad occasionally goes back and forth between Spanish and English, sometimes German. Growing up trilingual meant language slips often. As he left his amazing penthouse, he did his morning ritual. He began to speak,
"Vater unser, der du bist im Himmel
Geheiligt werde dein Name;
Euer Königreich komme,
Dein Wille geschehe,
Auf Erden wie im Himmel.
Gib uns heute unser tägliches Brot,
Und vergib uns unsere Schuld,
Wie wir denen vergeben, die uns widerfahren;
und führe uns nicht in Versuchung,
sondern erlöse uns von dem Bösen. Amen."

Conrad closed his prayer with the sign on the cross, starting at his left shoulder to his right. Thanking the Lord before and after training meant peace for him throughout the day. The power of prayer is something he has always believed in. After finishing his prayer, an idea went through the blue man's head. He teleported himself to the lower room, conveniently behind Mycroft. Conrad began to make faces, imitating Mycroft's usual serious face.

"Watch yourself, Mr. Wagner." Conrad quickly teleported on line when he heard Mycroft's voice. Conrad may be silly, but he wouldn't push his luck with Mycroft. Some of the team was already there. Frankie was sharing her coffee like the angel she is. Wren and Schuyler mouthing off like usual. Everyone else looked exhausted.

"Good Morning! Or evening maybe? Good whatever!" Conrad's smile was huge and a bit creepy due to energy drink kicking in. He stood behind the line, playfully poking Frankie with his tail. Mycroft and Coulson's disapproving look was enough to make him stop. Can't they have a bit of fun?

The flight from Wakanda to New York was relaxing enough for the prince. He had only arrived in his room an hour ago. An important dignitary from a nearby African country, who was trying to invade their borders, was visiting, hoping to make peace for underestimating the power of such a small nation. It would've been rude for the crown prince to miss such an important meeting. Thanks to his charming personality and keen intellect, an agreement was formed on borders. T'Chioke's father was proud as his son negotiated fairly, but benefitting Wakanda at the same time. T'Chioke sighed as he flopped into his bed. He was still on Wakanda time, seven hours ahead of New York. He couldn't sleep. Thankfully, he didn't need to since an loud alarm went off throughout his luxurious penthouse.

"Jarvis? Status?"

"Welcome back, Prince T'Chioke. Your prescence is required on sub-level 23. Your mentors as that you be present in 15 minutes and dressed for battle."

"Thank you. Please tell them I will be there momentarily."

"Yes, sir.

The black panther habit stayed in glass casing when T'Chioke left for business trips. The life of a prince meant plenty of balance between the hero side of himself. As he slipped on the suit, he sighed. When was the last time I did something for myself? The Black Panther and Prince of Wakanda took up most of his time, leaving no time for T'Chioke. Leaving Wakanda to study wasn't even for himself. The idea of leaving Wakanda for educational purposes is a new idea, only done by T'Chioke's father and himself. The original idea for attending Descendants was to have powerful allies, should Wakanda need them, and to become a better prince and panther, no other reason was enough. Wakanda comes first, always has. T'Chioke glanced into his mirror, the vibranium suit shined under the lighting as did the helmet he was holding. He slipped on his clawed gloves before exiting his penthouse. Today is another busy day.

When T'Chioke arrived in the training room, he appeared pleased while secretly disappointed Xavier hadn't arrived yet. Besides Conrad, T'Chioke wasn't genuinely close with anyone at the academy. This was due to T'Chioke though. He wasn't sure who to trust just yet. T'Chioke made sure to be friendly to his teachers. They can be your most powerful champion if you treat them well. Conrad had already arrived so T'Chioke stood next to him, leaning on the wall with his helmet still under one arm.

"HEY! You're back! How was Wakanda?" Conrad's expressive eyes made the prince smile. Conrad's blue form could be considered frightening, but T'Chioke saw the value in his friend. He wanted to know so much about T'Chioke's home country and it made T'Chioke happy.

"The same."

T'Chioke's vague replies never satisfied Conrad, but telling Wakanda's secrets is a big no for the future king. Conrad may have his loyalty, but his secrets are only for him.

█████████████████████████████████

This was probably one of the rare moments Arthur had actually found himself in a peaceful sleep. Of course, he was human so sleep was a necessity but he found himself getting less and less of it as the days dragged on in the academy. He didn't mind a little deprivation, after all sleep is the most vulnerable state a person can be in. Out of most of the students, Arthur's room was rather simple and small. He didn't need a lot of the fancy schematics that some of the students had in their rooms, and he kept his belongings to a minimum.

Of course, the one time he managed to be peacefully getting some sleep J.A.R.V.I.S had other intentions. Just as the alarm had a nanosecond to start, Arthur had grabbed the knife out from under his pillow and jerked out of bed defensively. He hated being awoken abruptly, he had a hard time trying to not to think that every noise and shadow he had heard wasn't his father ready to behead him.

"Terribly sorry for the disturbance Mr. Wilson, but they have requested you be at sub-level 23 in 15 minutes, full gear and all".

It took Arthur a moment to relax, as he tossed the knife back on his bed, pinching the bridge of his nose with his open hand. "Thank you J.A.R.V.I.S." He mumbled quietly before shuffling over to the light switch and flipping it on with a flick of his hand. It was like them to plan sporadic training sessions, but Arthur still hadn't gotten used to it. He shuffled over to his closet, trying to stretch as much as he could. Of course we have no time to warm up... or even wake up.

The contents of his closet were pretty sparse, a couple of normal outfits, training gear, and some things he had managed to steal from his jackass of a father. His fingers brushed against the Promethean armor, maybe a bit too much for a training exercise. He settled on one of his father's traditional suits, he hated the fact that he looked like him, but since Arthur had stolen it, it was more of a slap in the face for Deathstroke. He shimmied on the suit as fast as he could, but left the mask off for the time being.

Now to perhaps his favorite part, the array of toys that he had acquired over the years and the new ones that Cree had given him to try it. It wasn't often that they were allowed to use their own choice weapons, so he made sure to grab as much as he could. An assortment of different grenades and bombs, his trusty ballistic staff, and finally his precious Promethean Sword. She was like his child, and he treated her with the utmost care.

The hallways were particularly quiet as Arthur made his way to the elevator his footsteps echoing down the corridor. The elevator was surprisingly empty as he made his way down to sub-level 23. The second the elevator doors opened, however, he could hear the steady chatter of some of the others. The one that stood out the most was obviously, Wren. The red-head's words made him roll his eyes slightly, she never knew when to stop but he cared for her nonetheless. On this particular morning however, he didn't feel extremely chatty as he pushed past some of the others, going as unsociable as possible to the back of the line near, T'Chioke and Conrad who were engaged in conversation. He promptly leaned against the wall, tightening the straps on his gloves, through habit, and waited for whatever shit they were about to put the group through.

As a Kryptonian James never needed to sleep, to him it was somewhat of a blessing and a curse. While his father told him this was ample time to train or relax, James saw it as boring. Being sociable and nocturnal do not mix. While James still had the energy from maybe eleven monster drinks, his friends were completely drained. So he busied himself by watching TV, and other things that humans would've done. It wasn't like he didn't know human culture, but it wasn't something he was used to, well other than the farm life. His father taught him about the immense history and culture of the Kryptonians, while his mother occasionally watched the news with him to keep up on world events. When he left for the academy, his parents gifted him a cellphone, which he still was figuring out how to use. He mainly just used it to communicate with his parents and Frankie.

"Mr. Kent, sorry to disturb you but I have a request from the mentors. They are asking your attendance at sub-level 23 for training. Come prepared"

J.A.R.V.I.S.'s voice rang out, quietly in James's room. He could only imagine the distress of the other students, for being woken up at this hour. For him, however, it was no different than training in the day. "Thanks J.A.R.V.I.S" He said getting up from the large lounge that substituted as his 'fake bed' in his room. He wandered into the bathroom where he decided to at least fix his hair from the tousled black locks that it was currently left in. He ran some fingers through the curls, managing to get everything in it's place other than the stubborn, trademarked curl he had inherited from his father. No matter how hard he tried to get it to stay it always fell back into place.

'Come prepared'. That could mean a couple of things, but nonetheless he found himself getting into his suit that he modeled after his fathers. He wasn't a huge fan of the underwear on the outside, so he made sure to get rid of that first. However, he decided to part with his cape for today, while it helped a little bit with flying, a huge part of it was just the finesse of the suit itself. After making sure that he hadn't forgotten anything he strolled out of his room and to the elevator. The ride down was always awkward for him, as the strange, pointless music drifted out through the speakers. After what felt like a year, the doors finally opened to one of the training wings. James could see his mentors standing, almost menacingly, in front of the group of students who had already arrived. At least Phil gave him a friendly greeting as he walked in, "Mr Kent", which James returned with polite smile and nod. He knew not to step on the mentors toes, unlike some of the students.

His face immediately brightened however when he saw Frankie in line with the same sweet smile that she always had on her face. Unfortunately to actually talk to her James would've had to cut, or stand out of the line and he wasn't ready to anger either the half-asleep Ross or uptight Mycroft. He instead managed to give her a warm smile as he passed, "Hey Francis". He always addressed her with her first name, it was something of a habit and definitely picked up from his father. It was a small greeting but he at least he got to tell her hello, before abruptly disappearing to the end of the line with Maura and Arthur. He opened his mouth to talk, but after the look on their faces, he quickly got the idea.

Maura has a knack for moving her entire body around while she sleeps. So when J.A.R.V.IS. woke her up with a rather gentle beeping noise she found herself in a complete 180. Her head was near the foot of the bed while her feet were pressed up against the headboard. As for the covers and pillows, they were scattered everywhere around her room.

She rubbed her eyes, and sat up, a quiet yawn escaping her. "Good morn- evening? J.A.R.V.I.S did you dim my room again?"

"No Ms. Howlett, your mentors are requesting your attendance at sub-level 23 for training."

"This early?" Maura groaned, stretching to grab a pillow off the ground. "Tell them to go fuck themselves" She mumbled before smashing the cool pillow against her face.

"Well, I could tell them that rather, crude, sentence but it's all in our best interests that you attend. Perhaps maybe phoning your father will give you some motivation?"

Maura let out a growl of annoyance, and complied getting up off the rather soft, and inviting bed to her dismay. "I'm not twelve J.A.R.V.I.S" She muttered as she stumbled her way to the bathroom splashing cold water on her face. It didn't take her long to throw her hair up into a high ponytail and throw on some of her normal training clothes. Unlike most of the students, she didn't have any fancy super suits or anything of the sort.

"It worked though, didn't it?"

How could a computer be such a smartass sometimes?. "Thank you J.A.R.V.I.S.!" Her tone came out entirely fake, and although she knew he didn't have any feelings she wished he felt the same.

She saw a couple other students join her in the hallway but they were also lost in thought just as she was. The elevator ride down was rather quiet, but Maura didn't mind. She enjoyed the silence once in a while. However, the second the doors opened she was greeted by the noises of the other students who were lined up in the hallway. Wren and Skye, Frankie, Maura gave the blonde a warm smile as she passed, Tobias, Jaxon, and the others. She moved behind Arthur who had rather the same idea she did with being quiet.

Caitria gazed at her beaker, her blue eyes almost glowing. The transparent silver-violet liquid was relatively still, save for the steady stream of bubbles in the center of the beaker. The solution was almost ready to advance to the next step. Caitria just needed to add one more extremely vital material.

The blonde speedster slid over to her microscope, where a slide with a sample of her reinforced and "mutated" tri-polymer molecule mixture was waiting. Caitria peered into the microscope, her lip quirking upwards in satisfaction. Things were going very well tonight. In fact, everything was going very well tonight. It was almost too good to be true.

Caitria pulled the slide out of the microscope and headed to one of her storage closets to get the rest of her supply. This solution was going to surely improve Caitria's life.

Caitria grabbed her vial with the tri-polymer solution and slowly poured it into her beaker. The solution in the beaker - still silver-violet - gradually grew more opaque by the second. "Good," Caitria murmured under her breath, raising her voice to just under normal conversation level. "Soon enough, this solution will create a highly powerful sneak attack weapon capable of taking down J.A.R.V.I.S."

Caitria swore that the entire tower could hear the alarms.

"J.A.R.V.I.S!" Caitria hollered above the screaming alarms, her sharp and loud whistle drowned out in the noise. "It. Was. A. Joke!"

The alarms turned down considerably after that.

Caitria heaved a sigh. The lab was supposed to be quiet.

"How did you know I was here?" J.A.R.V.I.S. questioned.

Caitria groaned. "Nothing goes this well without a sudden interruption."

"I apologize for intruding, Ms. Allen, but your mentors request your presence on sub-level 23. They ask that you be present in 15 minutes and dressed for battle."

"Dressed for battle...wait...does that mean I can bring my improvised radioactive weaponry?!"

There was a long pause before J.A.R.V.I.S. spoke once again. "Do you mean to tell me that you have nuclear bombs in your possession?"

Caitria laughed. "Hah, no! Those are so basic...I've tried to update those in the past, but that experiment is on hiatus. No, I mean my other radioactive weapons of mass destruction."

There was another pause. "Please get dressed, Ms. Allen."

And so Caitria did. She changed into a black uniform that allowed for aerodynamics and flexibility. She wasn't the biggest fan of the Flash bodysuit; that was why she was attempting to create a new one with a better material in the lab. The blonde headed to sub-level 23 and saw quite the mishmash of students. "Students"...hmph. Caitria was 21, if she went to a regular college, she'd have already graduated. It always felt weird to call her peers classmates or students.

Andrew wasn't a heavy sleeper. Sure, he loved his sleep, but he wasn't that hard to awaken. Once he heard the alarm, he was wide awake, ready for a message.

"What is it, Jar?" he questioned the computer system. He could practically hear J.A.R.V.I.S. pausing.

"Mr. Mulligan, my name is already an acronym. There is no need to shorten it."

"On another note, thank you for responding quickly. Your presence is required on sub-level 23. Your mentors ask that you be present in 15 minutes and dressed for battle."

Andrew's eyes brightened for the wrong reasons. "You mean I can actually bring real, dangerous guns?"

"...I suppose."

"Awesome! I already know that I can turn my limbs into weapons, but I'm quite fond of my small collection of guns. Thanks, Jar!"

"Please, Mr. Mulligan, call me J.A.R.V.I.S."

But Andrew was already paying him no mind, changing quickly out of his pajamas and into his "battle armor." The brown-eyed symbiote evaluated his rather pathetic collection of handguns and grabbed a few random ones. Although Andrew was well-versed in the art of sharpshooting, he commonly used the weapons his limbs turned into rather than handheld guns or knives. For convenience reasons, of course.

Once Andrew entered sub-level 23, he saw Riley, along with a few others, such as Ross and Wren. Andrew, grinning as he entered, made his presence known as he headed towards his friends. Riley was quite different from Ross, but Andrew was friends with both.

thaleia castle

Thaleia sat there in her kitchen, back as straight as a board, her eyes cold and heartless. The walls weren't too decorated, but there were wine bottles and a variety of shotguns, handguns, rifles, pistols, etc. on display. While Thaleia did prefer to have her weapons hidden - in case someone attempted to invade her penthouse - she displayed part of her collection of guns and a few bullets for her own sanity.

While she had no problem admitting that she admired the combat skills of some around the tower, such as smart-ass Wren and others, Thaleia didn't understand their personalities or outlooks on life. For example, Wren. Sure, she was an annoying bitch, but she did seem happy in her own little way. Thaleia did feel bitter about how Wren could be like that so easily. To get through the day, Thaleia had her own coping methods. Everything night, at precisely 2:50 AM, her internal clock would wake her up and she'd go to the kitchen. There would be no light, save for a scented candle from Bath and Body Works. It was routine, habit. There wasn't anything too special about Bath and Body Works, or candles in general, but it was how it worked.

Anyway, Thaleia would come to the kitchen everything night at precisely 2:50 AM, with a single Bath and Body Works candle, and she would remember. She was human, but Thaleia had remarkable memory when it came to weapons and everything about them. That meant everything about them, from full weaponry use to sentimental memories. Only Thaleia knew it, but while all the weapons on display were high-grade military weapons, they weren't chosen based on their quality. No, crazy events have taken place in Thaleia's past, and these guns and bullets were important to every one of them.

Thaleia hadn't cared deeply about many people at all, but those-who-must-not-be-named chose their victims well. The group could've killed a specific one of Thaleia's enemies, and she'd be far more pained than if they killed one of her friends. Thaleia didn't have too many close friends, but she had a lot of people she would grieve for.

Had. Not anymore. Thaleia cared about no one in the world now. Sure, she would do her duty. She would kill the evil in the world. But just because Thaleia did something for (what she believed was) a good cause, it didn't mean she was happy. Far from it. The people in this damned school don't even know a fraction of it.

Thaleia's gaze flickered over to a bullet in the glass case closest to her. The bullet was rusted far before loaded it into a gun. The person she shot it with died from tetanus. Predictably.

Of course, Thaleia could remember how she shot it and the effects. But the part that seared into her mind was why. Why did she shoot the bullet? Could holding fire have saved Mark, who died in the next few days? Mark and Thaleia had a rather difficult relationship. They were "enemies", both cool, calculated, and making sharp jabs at each other. Despite this, Mark, elder by Thaleia was five years, did actually care about her in a...strange sibling way. Neither admitted it, but both knew, in the darkest corners of the mind, that the feeling was mutual. Like Thaleia would admit it.

Thaleia scowled as J.A.R.V.I.S. alerted her of its presence. "I apologize deeply for disturbing you Ms. Castle," J.A.R.V.I.S. said, "but mentors Xavier, Coulson and Pennyworth request everyone's presence on sub-level 23 in 15 minutes. They ask that you come prepared for battle."

Thaleia bit her lip harshly before nodding brusquely. She stood up in the calculated way she always did, and walked to her bathroom, where her desired weapons were located. While her sitting posture was always stiff and straight, her movements were fluid and calculated in a perfected grace - no misstep would be allowed.

Thaleia collected her guns, and went to her closet, quickly typing in a collection of passwords into a highly protected lock. She collected her grenades and some explosive ammunition, hiding it well in her clothing. Thaleia silently headed into an elevator.

The brunette's green-blue eyes always looked distant, yet at the same time, they clearly took in every detail. Thaleia had always believed her life was a huge paradox.

As Thaleia entered sub-level 23, she could feel the air around her get colder. She had that effect. People noticed her presence, and not quite in a good way.

It was just simply another peaceful, uneventful night at the Descendant Tower, the so-called academy where the succeeding generation of heroes, or villains, train to be the heir to their parents. Well, at least for now, it was as peaceful as it could get. None could ever truly know if merely seconds later, a meteor shower would be raining down on Earth or if armies of extraterrestrial beings from an unknown dimension would be marching on to invade our planet our not. In this universe, nothing is impossible, after all. With just a blink of an eye and then the world will face its' end before anyone could know it, so isn't it better to just enjoy the moment, uncaring of how the future will turn out?

But in the end, it was their job. Their most sacred of duties. To ensure that such scenarios will not be played out. And that the so-called normal people out there can continue to live on in peace, blissfully ignorant of the fact that their lives are always being hung on the balance. It really sounds like a pain, for them, isn't it? But it was of no big matters, each and every one of them simply have come to term with the fact what they were made of, and what they simply have to do.

Xavier was sitting in the center of his meditation room inside his penthouse. For those who are not well-versed with the mystic arts, it will look as if he was only meditating. But in truth, this is merely his body. His astral form has already left and was walking in the astral realm. It is impossible to describe how this plane looked like with just the languages of human, but as long as you are out of your body, all burdens suddenly become nothingness. There was no sadness, no joy, no excitement, no rage. Only tranquility. And true enlightenment.

He keeps walking and walking. It was not really walking, though, since there was no ground under his feet. And he finally encountered a familiar figure just up ahead. The very man who had blessed him with this life. "Yo, dad." Xavier called up to his father, who was standing, gazing into the uncertain distance ahead of them calmly.

"I saw you on TV last night." Stephen spoke up when his son walked up to him, "Looks like you're still doing fine without me kicking you into place, hmm?"

"You're not so bad of an old man now, too." Xavier replied jokingly, "How's mom and Sophie?"

"There's no need to fret about them. They're doing a better job than you, y'know."

"Heh, now you're underestimating your son way too much."

The two of them continued to converse in their nice father-son chitty-chat. Since the four of them are each being in their own separate places now, they have agreed to meet up in the astral plane once in a while to see how each other is holding up. Clea, his stepmother and Sofia, his stepsister, seemed to be busy with something now so they aren't joining the two males of the family. But being able to meet up with his father occasionally for Xavier is already more than enough. His family meant the whole universe to him, and he knows it is normal for him to continue to persevere, to the best of his abilities, to protect them and make them proud. Being a Sorcerer Supreme to him is simple just as that.

Suddenly, he can felt some distortion back in the real world, meaning something or someone is trying to reach out to his main body. "Well, looks like this is it. Hero's duty is always endless, y'know." Xavier said.

"Haha, tell me about it. Just go, son." Stephen replied with a laugh, "And always keep in mind that you're your daddy's pride."

"See ya around." He nodded and and bid farewell to his father before everything flashed up and he let himself being pulled back to his body.

"-ange? Mr. Strange? Are you there?" An automatic male voice thick in British accent bloomed throughout the whole penthouse after a blaring series of alarm, which was obviously used as a wake-up call for them. A rather rude method but the mentors seemed to have a serious liking for it.

"I'm here, J.A.R.V.I.S." Xavier stretched his arms and stood up from where he sat, "It wasn't morning yet, right?"

"Apologize for disturbing you, Mr. Strange, but the mentors are requesting you and everyone's presence immediately. Sub-level 23 in 15 minutes. They have also specifically stated you come in arms."

"Oh?" Xavier was actually a bit surprised at J.A.R.V.I.S's statement, before his lips curved into a bright smile, "My, my. Are you saying that they are letting me to use my arms outside the Mirror Dimension? I wouldn't recommend it."

"Recommended or not, it is their order. I am merely reporting what they said."

"So they wanted to let the beasts to roam freely and the hurricanes to go wild, hmm? I think I know what they are up to." Xavier said. J.A.R.V.I.S didn't reply because it doesn't get what he meant, "Got it. I'll go and prepare now. Thank you, J.A.R.V.I.S, your service is well appreciated."

"You're welcome, Mr. Strange."

With that said, Xavier headed to his bedroom and changed into another attire. Well, he doesn't fancy having a costume like the majority of the other descendants here. His dressing code is simply to impress others, as no matter how verbosely he dresses, it wouldn't affect his spellcasting much. When he is done, Xavier put on his Sling Ring, "Say, J.A.R.V.I.S, is it okay if I open a portal to get there instead of taking the elevator?"

"Be my guest, Mr. Strange, but wasn't you supposed to be armed?"

"I am armed, thank you for your concern." He replied as he traced his arms in a circular motion. A fiery portal was slowly conjured, showing the sub-level 23, where the mentors and some of the other descendants were standing. Of course, this was quite an entrance, so it caught the attention of everyone almost instantly.

"It was a nice evening, wasn't it? My dear mentors." Xavier greeted as he calmly walked through the portal, and it disappeared as quick as it appeared, "I hope you are ready for the whirlwinds to spin."

He then glimpsed through the line of attendees that have arrived and greeted those whom he knows well, which includes Wren, Frankie, Ross, T'Chioke, Jaxon, Conrad and Schuyler. He then stood in line, just behind Caitria, someone who, likes him, is not the most trustworthy person around, "Hello, Caitria, my dear. The breezes of the night are calming to you?" He asked her in his usual style of speech. There are still plenty of them who hadn't turned up yet so it's best to converse a bit to keep things from stalling.

Even Astrid grumbled to the intrusion on her sleep.
“Pardon me Miss Rogers but your presence is expected on sub-level 23 in 15 minutes. It is also advised you come prepared for battle.” But that b word - battle and war had an effect on her mind and body that coursed adrenaline through her and made her feel defensive of the academy, of herself and everything she stood and fought for. The only way they were going to learn was by applying themselves and treating it as real as possible, she understood that. And with Mycroft on the loose, that was easily accomplished. He didn't exactly leave much to the imagination.

Astrid didn't argue with the poor AI that endured more backchat than anyone had to, but replied with a simple “Okay,” and moved for the wardrobe to suit up. Even though it was in a slow sort of fashion. She tied her hair in a tight ponytail through a yawn and grabbed her shield. She hesitated at the door of her penthouse. “Weapons?”
“That is for you to decide.” J.A.R.V.I.S answered.
Astrid rolled over the option for some time. Too long in fact before she stepped forward and out her door. She traveled to sub-level 23 trying to conjure an energy she couldn't quite reach on the journey there.

The shield was firm in her grip and she saw her peers lined up. A few in fact making her one of the less punctual. Doubting they were doing it for fun, she fell in the back of the line automatically.
“Morning,” she greeted to anyone that heard it.
“Good morning, sunshine.” Lilith's voice emerged from behind her causing her to turn. “Today might be that day you have to toss somebody off a building.”
“I doubt that,” Astrid said seeing the likelihood as a joke and smiled.

An alarm sounded through her sanctuary and Lilith hugged her pillow tighter. When it was obvious it wasn't about to seize, Lilith peaked an eye open.
“What is happening?”
“Nothing personal Miss Isley. You and others are expected at sub-level 23 in 15 minutes prepared for battle.” J.A.R.V.I.S informed.
She took a glance at her clock then turned away in denial. “Why?” She protested.
For some time the AI was quiet. Lilith thought it had left in the best possible sense. “I detect that may a be a rhetorical question.”
Lilith turned onto her back and sighed with an arm resting across her stomach contemplating her life as it was and how, had she refused the academy she could work on her own hours. But training would have been less or nonexistent and so she might not have reached her potential.
“I am authorized to do any means of motivation, Miss Isley.”
To that she sighed and scowled and threw her blankets off. “Relax. I'm up,” she assured.

She twiddled her fingers in passing Wren and nodded to others she had a fine connection with then slipped in line behind Astrid.

“But honestly, Astrid, if it comes to your life you're still not going to kill somebody who would kill you in the blink of an eye?” She asked softly looking into her blues for the soul answer. Lilith wasn't antagonizing her or pushing her, at least not deliberately but genuinely curious.
“I feel like we've been through this. No. There's such thing as redemption and second chances and they can pay off.” Lilith arched a brow prompting her to carry on. “Say somebody never really had the option to do good and it's their only way of life. Loyalty can be earned. Circumstances and upbringing can herd people into other directions but give them a chance and they can do amazing things.”
Lilith leaned against the wall smiling and nodding to show her understanding of Astrid's viewpoint. “It's a good thing you can stand your own. That moral compass may be your demise.”
Astrid smiled again and shrugged. “Then it shouldn't effect you sweet Lily.”
Lilith was at first surprised by the sass she received from the captain's daughter then grinned. It was well played and oddly refreshing tuning both their wits up for the training ahead.

Green grass, a beaten dirt trail leading to a creek behind her house, a crooked smile with a dimple winking at her from the right side. These were all details Liz had fleshed out of the memory she’d spent the better part of a month trying to dig out of her subconscious. Meditation helped the process, which explained her position levitating over the bed, and Liz was eager to reclaim this one. Memories of Anna past eleven were particularly difficult for Liz to access, and in this one she looked thirteen.

“He’s cute right? I mean his ears stick out a bit, but what can I say, I’m a sucker for green eyes!” The ghost of her once best friend giggled with a younger version of herself, the pair goofing off in the wooded area by the creek behind her old house. The image seemed to stall, blurring around the edges whiled the sound jerked and repeated like a scratch on a vinyl record. Objects in the room began lifting into the air, mirroring her frustration as she tried to siphon more of the memory through the crack she’d made in Xavier’s mental wall. The block he’d made around this part of her mind was particularly thick and resistive, making any scrap she managed to pull from behind it a hard won battle.

“Are you going to go with Jordy? Sam told me he’s going to ask you.” Anna asked, her voice sounding warped, but gaining a semblance of clarity by the end.

“I’m thinking about it. Man, those eighth grade girls would totally go nuts if they saw us walk in with Jordy and Mark though wouldn’t they?!” Her younger self laughed with a grin that was a little too self-satisfied.

“That’s their problem.” Anna laughed as she jumped up on the fallen log that made a makeshift bridge across the shallow creek. “School rules say seventh graders can go to the spring formal if we’re one of their dates, so they’ll just have to go pout in the corner while Mark and I are slooow dancing!” She intoned dramatically as she walked across the log, brown eyes dancing as she practically bounced with excitement.

"Apologizes miss Grey, but your mentors request your presence at sub-level 23 in 15 minutes. Please be dressed for battle.” The sudden request and incessant alarm broke Liz from her meditative trance as she and several of the objects that had begun joining her in the air fell back toward the floor.

“Damn it…” Liz growled in frustration. She’d been in the middle of a breakthrough with this one, and there was no telling how long it would take her to get back to that point after being interrupted. Liz debated whether or not to just skip the assembly in favor of trying to strike the iron again while it was still hot, but eventually dismissed the thought. The trouble such a move would bring was assured, and the damage was already done. Even if she tried going back in now, there was no telling if it would actually produce anymore result.

So instead, Liz raised her mental shields, building their strength back up so that the thoughts of her peers were nothing but a dull puttering noise in the background, At this time of day, most of the tower’s occupants were sleeping, their minds easier to shut out. It also worked as an excellent time to dig around in her own mind because of that. More energy could be devoted to exploring the patchwork maze Xavier had left there, rather than filtering out the minds of others. It was simply her misfortune the mentors called an exercise this early in the day.

One thing Liz had come to understand from her time at the academy, was that the term “battle ready” was not expressed lightly. It was best to never walk into Mycroft’s simulations unprepared, and that meant the suit. Liz hadn’t taken the uniform with her after leaving the X-men, and it had actually been her father who’d sent the suit to Liz when she joined the Descendants program. Liz would always have mixed feelings about putting it on, but it helped to see the crooked stitches where Logan had ripped the X emblem off. She wasn’t one of them anymore, but it was pointless denying her experiences at Xavier’s. Her time there was a huge part of who Liz was, even if that part of herself was a stifled incomplete version.

Suit zipped, gloves on, and hair up, Liz made her way out the door and toward the stairwell. Telekenisis has its commuting advantages, and Liz didn’t fancy the idea of being trapped in an elevator car with a handful of other minds practically oozing frustration from their early morning wake up call. Interrupted sleep rarely led to perky morning attitudes in her experience. Floating down the stairwell, Liz touched down to the entrance of sub-level 23 and sauntered through. Most of the other students had already arrived by the looks of things, and Liz glanced around for an empty spot on the line up. Petra might have been a likely cohort to join, but given that she’d positioned herself with some of their more outgoing associates, and the fragile nature of her shields this morning, Liz ventured toward calmer waters of a fashion. Wren might have a mouth that wouldn’t stop running, but her mind was a refreshing wave of silence that Liz felt more comfortable being near.

Liz nodded simply to her mentors as she took a spot in line, exchanging brief, cold looks with Mycroft. Their working relationship was fairly professional, but it was safe to say there was no love lost between herself and anyone baring the Xavier name.

“I assume you are still awake yes?” Liz gazed down at Wren, brow lifted as if in true contemplation.

Wouldn't it be nice if we were older?
Then we wouldn't have to wait so long!
And wouldn't it be nice to live together,
In the kind of world where we belong!

“OH WOULDN’T IT BE NIIIICE!” Cree sang along appallingly off-key as she soldered the last couple pins for an IC chip on Einstein’s personality matrix. Unsurprisingly, developing a believably authentic K-9 AI was proving slow going, but Cree was happy with the progress she’d made so far. The additions she was adding now to his behavioral parameters were also going to help tremendously in getting her latest project field ready. Cree was practically buzzing with excitement because of it (Or maybe the caffeine pills. Those puppies backed a whollup, and she was on her third already so…yeah probably the pills…)!

Cree was about to begin the lengthy installation process when her music was suddenly cut off, and replaced with an alarm. “What the hell Jarvis?! You know better than to cut my tunes, Stark’s software isn’t that hard to hack!” Cree pulled her goggles off in favor of glaring at the ceiling. Was there a point in associating the PA system with an offending AI? Probably not. Did she care to indulge logic on this point? Hell no.

“Terribly sorry Miss Luthor…mistress of the elven hoards, conquerors of Westeria, and kicker of orc-scum booty…” Javis ground out grudgingly, sounding quite prim. “I don’t entertain to comprehend your reason for altering my programming in this manner. Quite the waste of time really.”

“Awww come on, you know you’d get bored if I didn’t try rewriting your code every week!” Cree shot back with a satisfied grin. “Besides, I think we can both agree this is much better than the time I switched your language parameters over to Klingon.”

“…Your presence has been requested on sub-level 23; ‘battle ready’ was emphasized. You have ten minutes.” Jarvis signed off immediately after, not amused in the slightest.

“Some AI’s have no sense of humor.” Cree lamented to Einstein’s decapitated robotic head, which was currently gracing the top of her work bench. “Looks like we’ll have to work on that upgrade later boy.”

Ten minutes wasn’t a lot of time to get battle ready, at least not for Cree. It took time and real effort to make her puny human ass some semblance of bad guy proof, so popping another caffeine pill, Cree double timed it to collect all her gear that was currently sprawled out at different work stations. Contacts in, gauntlets on, gun’s holstered, and mechanized pack powered on and shoulder slung; Cree was as ready as she was going to be tonight.

The ride down to elevator took longer than she’d hoped, but considering she was also one of the last students to arrive, not exactly surprising, especially considering Cree wasn’t really known for punctuality. Mycroft and Coulson sent her disapproving glances as she sauntered in, barely on time. Cree just smiled back unrepentantly. “Morning mentors! You’re all looking especially dour this morning, have you been practicing in the mirror?”

Looking over at the lineup, Cree made a beeline for Ross, who looked especially miserable at this hour, and in need of her immediate presence to be consoled. Frankie was also there as an added bonus, and if she had to elbow a few people down the line to get into her preferred spot well… they’d live.

“You look like you need a pick me up.” Cree shook her bottle of caffeine pills, extended in offer toward her friend.

He tossed and turned, unable to tune out the little bumps and creaks of the night while focusing on falling asleep. With his powers, those microscopic sounds of movement became magnetized. He heard footsteps, snoring, laughter tinged with fatigue. They were all muffled and far-off, like patterings of rain against a windowpane, but his ears could still distinguish each and every crunch and crack. It was annoying to say the least. Especially on restless nights like this one.

Eyes still closed, he reached for a pair of earplugs on the nightstand to his right. To his dismay, the little balls of memory foam rolled off the tabletop onto the hardwood floor, and continued to cruise away from his fingers until they stopped just underneath his bed. This woke him up ever slightly, which consequently allowed Jack to notice a curious exchange of dialogue happening more than fifty stories below him...

"Remind me again why we're up at this hour?"

"Crash course training exercise. Threats don't wait until they've gotten a full eight hours."

"Excellent. J.A.R.V.I.S., 15 minute alarm please."

Weren't those the voices of the mentors? Groggily, he propped himself up on two elbows and swept the sleep from his eyes. Lord knows what those old men were up to at this hour. Jack furrowed his brows and concentrated, attempting to listen in on their conversation.

"Tell them to come prepared for battle,"

"Hold on," Alfred Pennyworth's voice interjected, "some of these students use grenades, guns... live weaponry."

"Precisely."

"They should be using sparring equipment, not adamantium blades. This could get them killed,"

"That's the point Mr. Pennyworth," Mycroft clarified. The sound of a pen against a clipboard followed soon after.

Jack sat up, brushing his feet against the cold floor. The men had his curiosity, but now they had his full attention. He balled his fingers into fists, trying to place even more emphasis on the faraway whispering of their voices within his eardrums, but regretted doing so once he heard Mycroft's next sentence...

"J.A.R.V.I.S., the message please."

Shit.

"Wait, wait, WAIT!..."

An explosion of blaring sounds flooded every penthouse in the building - including his own - therefore forcing Jack to instinctively press both palms over his exposed ears. Every chime made them ring higher. He grimaced and gritted his teeth while attempting to adjust to the high-pitched hysteria. It was like a telephone bouncing around inside his head.

"I'm up! I'M UP! J.A.R.V.I.S., make it stop!"

And promptly, the noise ceased.

"I am sorry to wake you, Mr. Murdock. But your presence is required on sub-level 23. Your mentors request that you be present in 15 minutes and-"

"Yeah, I got it. I got it. Thanks, J.A.R.V.I.S."

What assholes. Couldn't the mentors have initiated this at a more welcome hour? In fifteen minutes, sub-level 23 would be crowded with sleepless zombies. Or maybe not. This was Descendant Academy: a school full of superpowered freaks. No one was ever asleep. Not really.

He leapt to his closet and searched for the billy club hidden conveniently behind his row of clothes. Suddenly, he heard another ringing sound coming from the kitchen, only this time it was less harsh in tone.

"Incoming call from 'Phoebe - Prince.'"

She was awake.

"Answer and put it on the intercom, please."

The chiming in the kitchen stopped. He closed his closet and smiled.

"Sup, Princess? Good morning, by the way."

The sound of her yawn carried throughout the whole floor.

"Morning," she answered, her tired voice an octave deeper. "Since you're awake, I'm assuming you got the message, too?"

He tossed his father's weapon onto the bed and mirthlessly chuckled. "Oh, I got the message, all right."

"Do you know what's going on? J.A.R.V.I.S. said to prepare for battle...is there an attack on the tower?"

He kept forgetting this was only her third week at the academy.

"No, I think I picked up on Mycroft's voice before the alarm rang...it's a crazy drill. They're going to pit us against each other."

A short silence. It was as though he could hear her heart stop through the intercom.

"You're kidding, right?"

"I wish I was," he frowned, trudging into the bathroom. He flicked on the lights and grabbed his toothbrush, rinsing it under the faucet and dabbing a glob of paste onto its bent bristles.

"Why are they making us fight each other this early in the morning?" Phoebe questioned in disbelief.

"If I 'emember correctly, it's 'ecause 'threats 'on't wait until we've 'otten a full eight hours," he mumbled, doing his best Mycroft impersonation through a mouthful of toothpaste. He quickly brushed some more and then spat into the sink below, eyeing his reflection in the mirror.

"Okay...well, J.A.R.V.I.S. said to prepare for battle...should I bring armor?"

He froze. That was a very good question he unfortunately knew the answer to.

"Well, under any other circumstances I'd say no," Jack explained, scurrying back to his bedroom, "But this is Descendant Academy we're talking about. People take everything seriously here. I guarantee you there will be at least a few students so armored to the teeth, they'll look like World of Warcraft cosplayers."

He opened the closet a second time, grabbing his father's iconic Daredevil costume from a top shelf.

"So yeah...don't forget your armor."

Jack proceeded to pull the red suit over his pajama bottoms, zipped it up, then reached for the horned helmet sitting on an opposite shelf. He heard Phoebe exhale.

"All right. I'm going to get ready now. Thanks, Jack. See you in a few minutes."

"See ya."

She hung up, leaving him to his own devices...literally. He grabbed his billy club - still concealed as a cane - from off his unmade bed and split the weapon in two, juggling the twin batons in the air and practicing a few moves in the dark. He then spent the next two minutes stretching. (The whole time wishing he could crawl back into bed.) Once he was all warmed up, Jack snatched his helmet and carried it between his chest and inner elbow. He then strutted to the kitchen, grabbing his phone and set of earbuds. He inserted the minuscule speakers into the two sensitive holes in his head and began to search for a song. Unfortunately, he didn't have time for a nutritious breakfast. Maybe if he did well today, he'd treat himself to some scrambled eggs.

Jack finally settled on an old Gorillaz tune from his middle school days and shut the door to his penthouse, quickly punching the elevator button. The ride down took forever, as per usual. He adjusted the volume on his phone, making sure the sound was as quiet as mechanically possible. There were some perks to being the son of the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, one of them being that he never had to worry about television, phone, or computer volume. Another perk being that the farther down the elevator dropped, the more he could overhear the half-awake conversations happening on sub-level 23. The closer he got, the more voices he could discern.

"Oh, you don't want me to drink that then I'll never shut up." chimed an iconic voice he knew all too well. Wren was probably one of those people still completely awake despite the hour. Knowing this, Jack unconsciously fixed his posture, even going so far as to clear his throat. For a moment, he wondered what kind of witty banter they would exchange today.

"By Odin's Beard! So it's true, this magical place in time when you actually don't speak, actually exists!" crowed another voice he unfortunately knew all too well. He rolled his eyes as she annoyingly exclaimed that the Daily Bugle should print such important information. In his opinion, Schuyler Simmons was nothing but a shaken-up bottle of soda untouched by atmospheric pressure. He didn't want to pry open her cap and let all that volcanic fizz explode out, but sometimes it was fun to twist her a bit; just enough to stir up some sort of surprised reaction.

He peered towards the elevator's top screen. He was on the ground floor now, and instantaneously, more voices flooded in. He could hear Frankie's chirping, Conrad's energetic greetings and the sexy Scottish accent of Ross McCulloch, Mr. Mirror Master. Eventually a cloud of scents crept into his nostrils as well. It was a rush of popcorn, coffee, shampoo and...Red Bull.

The last voice he heard was Liz's before the elevator stopped at sub-level 23. “I assume you are still awake yes?” she said, the sound of her words travelling towards the floor. Using his sonar-like radar sense, Jack discerned that she was most likely talking to Wren.

And then the doors opened, and a spitfire of reactions began to pour out of him.

"Oh, she's always awake," he smiled at Liv, sending a wink down to Miss Wilson herself. "In fact, she just had popcorn for breakfast." Instead of staying to chat, he kept walking forward, wondering if Wrenpool knew that the snack's smell was still on her hands.

"I wouldn't waste your time, Schuyler," he quipped while strolling past her, "The Daily Bugle isn't a gossip column. They have no patience for hearsay." Jack quickly looked back at the row of mentors, unable to tell if their hard glares were disapproving or just naturally stern.

He then waved to his buddies, Ross and Jaxon, and pivoted in place once he reached the end of the line. A weird whiff found a way into his nostrils...were those pills or more coffee he was smelling? No matter. He had more important things to pursue. He switched the song playing on his phone and searched his contacts for Phoebe. He began to type a text message, attaching the photo he had discreetly taken of Schuyler's battle armor while passing her in line. To him, it definitely looked like it had come from an online fantasy roleplaying game. He sent the message with a smirk, which simply read, "Told you."

Jack tapped his toes in silence, barely lifting his gaze from the screen so as to dodge any intimidating glares his peers might have been throwing in his direction. Finally, his phone buzzed, and he snorted at Phoebe's curt reply.

You're an ass.

Well, she wasn't wrong. He couldn't wipe the grin off his face as his phone buzzed again.

See you in two minutes.

Armor? Check. Sword and shield? Check. Lasso? Check. Sanity? Well, that box was yet to be marked.

She put her phone down onto the kitchen table and shook her head, gazing up at the ceiling in a vertigo of conflicting emotions. Phoebe was surprised that her best friend somehow managed to stay alive, what with the dirt he found out about people and quiet ruckus he was always causing within the academy. He truly lived up to his moniker. Although she had yet to meet him, she assumed his father had also been a total daredevil in his youth.

Her eyes closed. Deep breath in and out. A sip of water and it was straight out the door. But not before saying goodbye to J.A.R.V.I.S.

"Goodbye, Miss Prince," he chimed, "And good luck."

"Thanks," she smiled, knowing she'd need it.

As she stood in the elevator, continuing her meditative breathing, she reflected upon the three things she had learned about Descendant Academy in the three short weeks she had lived there.

Number one, it was a friendlier place than she had expected, but not nearly as friendly as she would have liked. Jack was irrefutably right when he had told her that everyone took everything seriously. Well, maybe not everyone and everything, but when it came to the art of battle, people sure did love to put up a fight. Even at three in the morning, it seemed. Phoebe was still embarrassed by the fact that she had her ass handed to her the first week of training. The girl took no pleasure in combat. She fought only because she knew it was necessary for the protection of herself and others. But from what she had seen, it seemed like some people actually got a rush from punching a person's face in.

No longer was she a big fish in the pond of Manhattan. From now on, she had to keep her guard up. Fortunately, she had people like Frankie Parker to keep her grounded, but at the end of the day, there was a fiery, intense, competitive vibe within the school that a mellow person such as herself just couldn't mesh with.

Number two, survival wasn't sure. Of course the mentors were concerned for every student's improvement. This was a school, after all. However, there were some days when she wondered if they even cared about the wellbeing of the trainees. Almost a year ago, Jack had told her about an instance when a friend of his had been on the verge of death while engaged in combat with another descendant. He had also prattled about many other instances in which student's faces had been smashed into bloody pulps, more than five bones had been broken at once, and victims had been dropped from great heights. Not that Phoebe wasn't used to these things as a low-key vigilante, but sometimes she wondered if the mentors would let things go...too far. She hadn't really talked to any of them. They all seemed cold, distant. Concerned with other matters much greater than sparring practice. Especially with the exercise that was about to take place, she couldn't help but wonder if they cared about life and death. Maybe they wanted a small yet powerful graduating class. Maybe they even played favorites.

And number three, there were many secrets. She didn't know what they were, but with the enhanced empathy and Athenian insight she had inherited from her demigodess mother, she could definitely feel them churning inside people's heads. Especially the mentors' heads. Jack easily picked up a few of them, like they were seashells stranded across a shore. However, she wondered if there was something deeper. She felt something deeper. The real secrets weren't on the surface: they were gemstones buried in underground mines. They were fossils hidden in amber. There was just one question: was she willing to uncover them?

Phoebe's eyes widened with the elevator doors. Pulled from her thoughts, she slowly walked down the hallway, fiddling with the tight silver bracelets that had once been a staple of her mother's signature costume. Her eyes detected that Coulson's were sparkling just at the sight of them. She then inspected the line of powerful descendants, noticing the majority wore either gritty scowls or ambitious grins. She swallowed, wondering if she was the only one actually afraid for the "battle" to come.

However, she did send a little smile to Frankie, who was busy talking to Ross. Maybe she would join her in line.

But first, she needed to talk to Jack.

"Well, hey there." he greeted her, a toothy smile gracing the lower half of his face.

"Morning. Again." she grinned. Her beaming wasn't as convincing as his. "I know you probably don't want to hear this, especially this early, but I think you should be nicer to Schuyler Simmons. She's really interesting, y'know. I heard she was raised in Asgard."

He just shook his head. She could tell he was prepared to throw a potent retort right in her face, but then his smirk suddenly went straight.

"You look nervous."

Her fingers were twitching and she didn't even notice.

"Yeah...I kinda am."

She looked down, embarrassed and florid in the face, but the blonde-haired man beside her didn't laugh.

"Good," he nodded, "you'd be stupid if you weren't. Use it to your advantage. It's the fearless ones who always underestimate their opponents."

His hazel eyes were overflowing with sincerity. Gently, her lips tugged upwards, and for a moment she was at peace. He may have been arrogant and selfish at times, but somehow, Jack Murdock always knew what to say.

"Here," he chuckled, handing his phone over to her and placing the little buds in her ears. "This song will help. It's your theme song."

"Oh my god, no."

Well, maybe she didn't have the moral strength or shameless demeanor to dance to Barry Gibb's voice at the moment, but she did appreciate the message. All she had to do was stay alive, and the rest of her day would be fine. Phoebe's head bobbed up and down as she cranked up the volume, watching Jack put on his serious face. It was the face he made when listening to his surroundings. However, it didn't take long before he was bobbing his head in time to the beat, just like she was.

"Let's rock 'n roll this bitch of a morning." he whispered with a half-smile sharper than a pen stroke.

"By Odin's Beard! So it's true, this magical place in time when you actually don't speak, actually exists! They said it couldn't be real, it was only a myth!" Schuyler made her own obnoxious entrance. Surprise, surprise. Wren tried not to make audible gagging noise as she rolled her eyes, while the "Asgardian," Asgardian my ass, shook Frankie with her exaggerated shock. "Frankie, call the Daily Bugle! This front page news!"

Wren groaned, retracting her legs from in front of her so that her knees were to her chest. In a single movement, her hands pushed off the ground while her legs hoisted her up onto her feet. Her right hand slid her sunglasses up onto her forehead before she crossed her arms.

Frankie batted Schuyler's hands away with a half hearted laugh. "You're talking more than she is right now." Playful sarcasm from the blonde, but Wren liked it. She gave a bellowing chuckle, then pointed towards Frankie in an 'Ah ha' like gesture. Just to spite Schuyler, she decided not to say anything. Just give a smug as smirk with her arms crossed.

Her attention easily shifted from the aggravating wench in front of her to Liz who bee-lined towards her. Not surprising, Wren's mind was a lot more... silent compared to others' in the academy. Although its been said her mouth does double the work of normal minds, Liz still liked the relative silence she got around Wren. “I assume you are still awake yes?”

She parted her lips to answer but a different voice was quicker than her own. "Oh, she's always awake," Jack Murdock said in response to Liz's question as he strolled out of the elevator. Wren whipped her head around to glance over her shoulder in his direction to be met by a wink from the junior Daredevil himself.

"I sleep less than Schuyler showers," Wren added to Jack's comment towards Liz. "A side effect of my... spectacular stamina." Her gaze drifted towards Jack with a catlike sharpness. A suggestive smirk gracing her lips as she raised a brow.

"In fact, she just had popcorn for breakfast," Jack added as he continued past them.

Wren's flirtatious stature quickly faded as her jaw dropped slightly. She raised her right hand to check her breath with furrowed brows. "Damn his senses," she cursed under her breath. "And," she raised an index finger, "I don't think it technically counts as breakfast if I never went to bed. More like a late night snake."

Her gaze drifted over her shoulder back towards Jack when he spoke up again, this time towards Schuyler. "I wouldn't waste your time, Schuyler. The Daily Bugle isn't a gossip column. They have no patience for hearsay."

Wren snorted at the comment, unable to help but smile at the fact that Jack was only one who even slightly defended her against others' mockery. She tried to wipe the grin from her face as she turned back towards Liz. She parted her lips to speak to her current companion but again was cut off by someone else.

"Ms. Wilson, the exercise will be starting any moment. Might I suggest you finished getting dressed," Mycroft commanded in his snooty British accent.

She growled, rolling her eyes. "It's not like my tits are hanging out. Half of the sluts here wear less than this on a daily basis," Wren groaned, as she took her swords' holster off her shoulder. She held them out to Liz for her to hold momentarily. Wren then slipped her hands into the sleeves of her suit that dangled off her hips. She wiggled and shimmied her way into the tight red outfit, and zipped it up. Her right hand reached out and took her swords back from Liz, sliding it onto her back like a backpack. Wren didn't even humor another comment to Mycroft and looked back towards Liz. "As I was going to say... You look fairly awake yourself. Were you not asleep when the alarms went off?"

***

"Boys," Schuyler said towards him and Ross. Tobias tried not to scoffed or roll his eyes at the comment. He was the farthest thing from a boy. Him and Ross both were among some of the oldest students at the academy after all.

As more of his fellows students filed into the hall of sub-level 23, it was to no surprise most of them ignored Tobias' presence like he was a statue... A gargoyle that people walked past and barely spared a glance towards. That was until Petra joined the growing crowd. It was a simple nod of her head, but it was acknowledgement. The corner of Tobias' mouth curled up as he nodded his head in return towards his... niece. It's going to take awhile to get used to that.

It was then that Conrad teleported in behind Mycroft, and began to mock him behind his back. Tobias couldn't help but smirk and chuckle slightly when the uptight Brit knew Conrad was behind him the entire time. He couldn't help but wonder if baldy had ever laughed or smiled in his life. How someone like Charles Xavier created something so cold and heartless was beyond him. And why the academy wish graced with his icy disposition made no sense.

His fingers strummed along the top of his helmet that he held against his abdomen while he waited. Tobias let his mind wonder, not caring about the nonsense that carried on around him between the other students. If anything, he just wanted to get the exercise over so he could go to his room and attempt to sleep.

The ding of the elevator seemed to add more voices and chatter to the narrow corridor. When he happened to glance up for a moment to try and count who wasn't there, he met Lilith's gaze temporarily. He gave a slight nod of his head. No, they weren't the best of friends but they had a kinship over similar parentage, and what not. She wasn't scared of him, that was a start.

Sometimes Tobias hated how lonely he could feel in a room full of people. He was invisible in plain sight. Ironic, when he stood out like a sore thumb. The world would probably stop if he actually spoke up and initiated small talk with anyone standing beside him. He wasn't going to, but the thought of everyone's faces was amusing. His gaze followed Phoebe as she entered the hall and walked over to Jack. The poor girl looked terrified. Not that he blamed her. Each training exercise pushed them farther and farther until they excel... or die. And Tobias had a feeling that not all of them would graduate to hero. Everyone there should be terrified... But instead they're carrying on like they're in high school.

***

Frankie stood in her place in line, sipping from her cup of coffee occasionally. Every time the elevators open, her eyes brighten, a smile gracing her lips as she looked to see who joined them. Her delicate digits that were slipped through the coffee mug handle waved towards Petra as she joined them and stood beside Ross. They weren't the best of friends or anything, but Frankie always tried to make her feel welcome. Petra was nice, contrary to what anyone else might have thought.

Riley followed behind. Frankie gave him a friendly smile before he made his way towards his less than happy friends. Jaxon and Ross were definitely not the happiest when it came to being woken up in the middle of the night. Maybe Riley was trying to cheer them up. But what they really needed was a bed... or like ten 5 hour energies.

Frankie raised her elbow to lightly bump Ross in the side. The Scot nearly tipped over, apparently using the wall as a makeshift bed. "Jaxon, do you want a drink?" she offered, holding the cup towards Ross to pass on.

But before he handed it off, Ross took another large drink and then held it out to Jaxon. "Aye, 'll help... a wee bit, at least."

Frankie jumped when she felt a poke in her side. She quickly turned around, batting away Conrad's tail with a laugh. She went to go tickle him back, but stopped a few inches away from him when she heard Phil address another student. "Mr Kent."

Her smile only seemed to grow. Frankie's gaze was fixed on James, her right hand brushing back loose blonde locks while her right tried to catch Conrad off guard with a poke to the side. It seemed as though the young Superman's smile grew when he met her gaze. "Hey Francis."

"James," Frankie replied quietly. Her cheeks flushing slightly when he addressed her by her proper name. He was the only one at the academy that did that. And the only one who could get away with it. She watched him move to the end of the line, but diverted her gaze towards Maura who smiled towards her as she passed. Frankie raised her free hand and waved towards her before she too disappeared to the back of the line.

She turned around fully to face Conrad, making sure to keep an eye on his tail. "You look pretty... awake. Were you up late watching movies again?" Frankie asked with a playful smile.

***

Ross was so far... unbelievably out of it. Somehow he managed to find a way to prop himself against the wall just right that even when he started dozing off, his body remained standing. The occasional thing brought him out of it, people lining up near him, talking or when Frankie asked him to pass the cup of coffee to Jaxon. It sucked. Why they had to be awake at this time was ridiculous.

Usually he'd be chatting and bullshitting with Jaxon, Riley and Jack but he could barely keep his eyes open. Let alone hold a conversation. Just when he seemed to get into a good niche on the wall and allow himself to doze off once again, someone finally came for him. Not Jaxon or Frankie... And, of course, not Tobias. But him.

“You look like you need a pick me up.”

Ross groaned, not opening his eyes to look towards Cree. He didn't need to see her to know it was her. "Ey need a fuckin' bed." He finally cracked his right eye to see the bottle of caffeine pills she rattled before him. He moaned lethargically as he pushed off the wall and snatched the bottle from her hand. He dumped an unknown amount of pills into his palm before handing the bottle back and taking Frankie's cup of coffee from Jaxon. Caffeine chased by caffeine. This was going to go badly.

"When 'm more hyper than a toddler with a sugar high, I'm goin' to be yer problem Luthor." Ross gave a tired and attempted innocent smile towards his friend. "Ya may want a new mate." He chuckled, trying to rub the sleep from his eyes.

With a yawn, he raised his head and glanced around the hall. It seemed in Ross' fit of dozing in and out of sleep, most of his classmates had filled the corridor. But he couldn't help but notice the absence of a particular person... Abigail. Where was she? And why was it causing an unsettling feeling in his stomach that she wasn't there? She's just a rather large pain in the ass. Why should he care if she's tardy. He scratched at his head, looking back towards Cree, trying not to think about it.

Mycroft checked his watch again, before slipping his clipboard under his arm, holding it between his bicep and chest. He cupped his hands together in front of him before clearing his throat to get the student's attention. "Alright, simmer down." He waited cold and stoic until they all grew silent and gave him their undivided attention. "... Finally."

He took a deep breath and motioned to the doors on either side of the hall. "As you've probably guessed, this is a training exercise. Evil and intergalactic threats couldn't care less if you've had your full 8 hours or not. So you must be prepared at any moment, hungry, tired or injured to fight and accomplish what you must."

"I'm sure most of you are assuming this shall be another sparring exercise where we pair you off and let you fight. But we're beyond that now. That was to prepare you for whatever threat you may face, but now we are going to assess you. This exercise is the most realistic and likely of situations you will encounter thus far. We do not want you to take it lightly for we will not assess you lightly. You receive either a pass or fail. There are no in betweens or partial grades."

Mycroft looked towards the other mentors, and Phil then stepped forward. "As you all may know, a few years ago Captain America, Black Widow, and the Falcon... Along with others, faced down a threat of Hydra within S.H.I.E.L.D. During a raid on a particular Hydra base, we got complete scans of the facilities. Within each simulation room is an exact replica of said base. Barricaded, reinforced with hundreds of soldiers. Your objective will be to penetrate their defenses—" Phil's gaze did not fluctuate. "Not a word Ms. Wilson."

Wren groaned. "I didn't say anything... yet," she mumbled.

Phil sighed before continuing. "As I was saying... Penetrate their defenses, and gain access to their base. You need to get to their mainframe in the basement... Within there, there is a single manila envelope. You are to retrieve this envelope and return it to us."

Mycroft holds up his finger to silence everyone before they start speaking up again. "It is not quite that simple... So before you start acting like this is a cake walk... There are some guidelines. The envelope must not be damaged in any way, so blowing up the facility is not an option. We'll allow folding it to put in a pack or pocket... But burns, tears, water damage, etc. are unacceptable. You also may not open the envelope. The contents are highly secretive and delicate."

Phil cleared his throat before continuing on. "You may accomplish this task however you see fit. If that be through stealth or brute force. There are no hostages or innocents. If you are seen by anyone you must eliminate the threat. And if the alarms go off, you cannot leave until every threat has been terminated. In a mission of high sensitivity you can not leave any loose ends because it could compromise you, your loved ones and the academy."

Alfred gave a warm smile. "Lastly, you may tackle this mission on your own or you may partner up with another student of your choosing. Both options have merit but if you work along side someone else, please know that you must work as a team. 50/50 and together. Your grade will be no different going at it solo or in a partnership, but do choose your partners wisely if that is the route you decide to take. There is no time limit... but the longer you take, the more likely you will be discovered or fail. But I do suggest beating sunrise."

Wren stood there with her arms crossed and lips pursed. "That's it? Just stroll in there, take a stupid fucking envelope and leave?" Cold sarcasm was dripping from every word. "This is what we were brought here for?"

Mycroft stepped forward unamused. "Ms. Wilson it took all of the avengers to infiltrate a Hydra base in Sokovia. Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye and the Hulk... Easy is being allowed to spar your fellow classmates without lethal weapons, being allowed to stop before death."

She rolled her eyes pushing off the wall. "Do we get anything for completing it first?"

"You can go to bed sooner than everyone else."

Wren snorted and rolled her eyes. Her right hand placed her mask in her mouth as she walked past the mentors. She twisted her braid and held it in place against her skull. Then with her other hand, took her mask and put it on. She weaved her way through the other Descendants, making her way to a door at the farthest end of the hall. As she walked she tightened her weapons holsters and adjusted them on her. She stopped in front of the door and proceeded to check the clips of her guns and turn the safeties off.

She glanced back over her shoulder towards her other classmates. Wren wondered if she should ask someone to partner with her or not. Of course, she could go in solo... Literally run right through the front door and kill everyone. The Avengers can't take 100 bullets and live, but she could. But Wren thought a friendly competition throughout the exercise with Arthur could be interesting. Jack would be able to keep up with her and could probably know what she's thinking before she says it. Those were the only two she'd consider partnering with, after all... They were the only ones who'd tolerate her for more than five minutes.

Instead, she stood silent in front of the door. Surprising. She figured if someone wanted to partner with her, they'd ask. If not... Well, then she'd have a blast fucking up those simulated Hydras' asses. Wren tightened the straps of her katana holster. Then adjusted the tight fitting red suit. God, did it bunch in all the wrong places.

Tobias stood silent like a shadow, listening and waiting. A Hydra base? Really? All he's heard of those of Hyrda are that they think they're smart when they're not. He'd bet each one of those soldiers have something metal on them. He'd be in and out before any of the other students reached the front door. He wasn't dumb enough to think that anyone of these Descendants would want to partner themselves with him. Most of them hardly ever spoke to him, so why would they want to partner with him?

He sighed, and started towards one of the doors on the far end of the hall. But when he passed Mycroft, the man's arm stretched out to stop Tobias. "Mr. Lehnsherr?" he asked, holding a hand out towards his Magneto helmet.

"You said 'come prepared for battle.' This is what I need for battle." He held up the helmet, holding it through the eye slots.

"All the same, I cannot allow you to enter the simulation with it."

"It's a fucking helmet, Mycroft."

"A fucking helmet that blocks telepaths... That is the way I stay in contact with all of the Descendants while in the simulations. How else am I supposed to know if I need to pull you out of it?"

Tobias shrugs, giving a sarcastic head shrug. "I don't know... I'm almost dead?"

"No simulation is going to read your mind, Tobias. They are a computer program, nothing more."

Tobias' nostrils flared as Mycroft wasn't giving an inch. He raised the helmet and slammed it against Mycroft's chest as he walked past him towards the doors down the far end of the hall. He stopped in front of the door, clenching his jaw. He removed his jacket and placed it on the hook that hung off the wall besides the entrance to the simulation room. He took off his sunglasses, slipping them into the pocket of his jacket before he began rolling up the sleeves of his shirt. He checked the pocket of his jeans finding two golf ball sized metal balls. He tossed them up into the air once before putting them back into his pocket. Come prepared for battle... For everyone but the son of Magneto. Bullshit

Mycroft motioned for the other mentors to follow him towards the elevators. "The simulation will begin in 5 minutes. The doors will open when its time, dropping you a mile out from the base. You have that long to choose partners or prepare to enter alone. We will be on viewing level the next floor up. I will be in touch telepathically... If there is an emergency need to evacuate, let us know." Mycroft didn't need to turn around to know that Wren had a question.

Wren let her raised hand fall. "Ummm... telepaths can't read my mind?"

"I have the utmost confidence you won't need to be removed from the simulation. But if you do... I'm sure your mouth will let us know."

Wren scoffed, turning her attention back to the door in front of her. "Good thing you can't read my mind baldy," she grumbled to herself.

The mentors disappeared into the elevator, leaving the students with a small handful of minutes to prepared and make the necessary alliances if they so chose.

Even simulations, Frankie didn't like the idea that she may have to kill someone to get an envelope. Seems like a steep price. She already knew she'd want to take a more stealth approach to hopefully get in and out without being noticed. In the event of this being a real situation, she wouldn't want to kill everyone to get a single piece of information. Everyone is capable of coming back from the dark side... No matter how dark. She'd rather them spend time in prison, thinking on their crimes rather than in death. In death you can seek penance and forgiveness.

She glanced around the hall of classmates mentally tallying whom she thought would be the more stealthy of options. Astrid and James had the same moral drive as her to spare life. James tends to stick out like a sore thumb, but coming in from the sky versus the ground is easier, quicker and under the radar. With Astrid, they'd have no choice but to spill blood unless they somehow got the drop on every single person they came upon, and knocked them out before they saw them both.

Maura would be good for combat but Wolverine and Deadpool both were never known for their subtly, so that would without a doubt end in having to take lives... Artificial lives, but lives. Riley would be a good partner as well, morally, but no matter how Frankie added it up in her mind, she didn't know how they could get in and out without being noticed. Conrad could teleport in, but if she remembered correctly, his father could only teleport to places he's seen or been to before so that wasn't certain. Phoebe is an amazing dear as well, good moral stands, again the issue of stealth.

Frankie toiled over the options in her head as she looked around the collection of Descendants. She ringed her mask in her hands as she slipped her way through all of the people, smiling towards everyone and giving them reassuring brushes of her hand on their backs. She slowly came to a halt behind James, lightly tapping her finger against his shoulder to get his attention. "Hey," she said with a warm smile, all too known to Frankie. "Did, uh... Did you wanna pair up? Or were you wanting to Superman it alone?" She chuckled softly.

"I'd totally understand if you wanted to... I'm just wanting to take a more stealthy, spare the people approach." She brushes loose blonde locks behind her ears. "I'd also understand if you'd want to pair up with someone on your level... Like Phoebe or Petra or something." Frankie's brows furrowed when she realized she was rambling and probably sound idiotic.

Instead of standing around and rambling out more reasons as to why she'd understand if he didn't want to partner up with her, she made her way towards an unoccupied door. She looked at the flat metal surface before her, mentally kicking herself for being a bumbling idiot as she pinned her braids on her head. With a soft sigh, she pulled her mask over her head and then lifted up the hood. Frankie then proceeded to stretch. Lifting a foot into her hand and tugging to loosen a quad, putting her foot on a bench and leaning down until her forehead touched her knee. She always has been agile and flexible, but even superhumans can pull a muscle.

***

Ross was too tired to care about pairing up or not. This student is good with this, this descendant is good at that. Who cares? He was tired, cranky and getting hangry. His plan? Walk right in through the fucking door, travel through his mirrors until he ends up in the mainframe, get the fucking envelope and get out. Anyone who stops him will be trapped in a mirror and shattered on the floor. Sounded like a solid enough plan for him.

He didn't intend to finish off Frankie's coffee but he knew she wouldn't mind. He'd make it up to her by letting her play pacman later, it was always her favorite. Ross swerved his way to an empty door. Once in front of it, he took off his back pack, checking to make sure he had all his mirrors and blaster. He took out the mirror blaster, checking to make sure it was fully charged along with a compact mirror. Women used them for makeup, but it was perfect for him. He always liked to have a reflective surface on him at all times. He then rubbed his eyes and slapped his cheeks trying to wake himself up before the doors open.

xxxSCHUYLER x SIMMONS

Outfit Hexcode:#700909 Interacting with: Frankie Parker, Wren Wilson, Conrad Wagner

When Wren didn't immediately respond, Schuyler wondered if she had a cold or something. he merely smirked with Frankie batted her hands from her shoulder's with a smile. "You're talking more than she is right now." She said and Schuyler merely shrugged. "Oh certainly, but I've never pretended I was capable of otherwise." She said with an 'I'm quite pleased with myself' grin. It when then that Jack appeared. She had a respect for Wren, something like a rivalry, but this asshole, she had no idea what crawled up his ass and died but the resulting infection made him lash out at her. He always had so fuckery to spew from his mouth that was hardly clever enough to merit Schuyler's respect. Wren was clever, Jack was not.

"I wouldn't waste your time, Schuyler," He said as he walked by. "The Daily Bugle isn't a gossip column. They have no patience for hearsay." Schuyler palmed her forehead. See, not clever at all. When she first got to Midgard, she took things quite literal, now, she understood sarcasm and irony as if she was born here, what the hell Jack's excuse was, she couldn't say.

"I sleep less than Schuyler showers," Wren commented and Schuyler rolled her eyes. "Come now, Wren, Darling, You can do better than that, Careful, we don't want Jack's 'wit' rubbing off on you." She said just as the hall began to fill with other students. She noticed Phoebe Prince and appreciate that she wasn't the only one in full battle regalia, everyone else wore some costume that while was built for their unique abilities, weren't very subtle. She was never meant to be subtle, she was a warrior, an Asgardian Warrior, and as was Phoebe.

It was then that Mycroft began to speak and Schuyler was all ears. She might be a certain way with her fellow classmates, but teachers or at least the teachers here always had her utmost respect. They were the ones to make her feel welcomed and at home. Without them, she'd have already lost herself to her demon. Her classmates thought she was bad now...they haven't seen a thing.

It seemed a simple enough task but the package couldn't be damage, she got the feeling there was much more to it than that. Was it really just an envelope? Or was it something they were calling an envelope? Something was off here, Mycroft said it was harder then it sound and that she believed, but she got the feeling it was even harder than that. These training sessions had as of late been putting Magic training in the Hall to shame. If Mycroft said it was hard, she expected it to be harder still.

She looked at the group and considered a partner. Teams of two would be much more efficient than going it alone, which would have been something she preferred. This wasn't a simple smash and grab. her first thought was Conrad. his ability to teleport gave him an upper hand but that only worked if he'd been to that room previously. She could teleport too but that was the same way. She needed someone who balanced her abilities. She was brute force, Her powers were better suited to head on attacks and diversions, she could hold off an army, so sh need someone who was better suited for stealth to counter that but who?

Her next thought was Phoebe but now, she was a vanguard like herself, so now. She skipped over Jack Murdock because though he would be ideal, his mouth would have him strung up on the hole before the damn thing started, besides the fact that she wasn't asking him to be her partner...he was too childish to understand the tactical advantages of them teaming up. Wren was too much for flare, she too was more of a diversion. Frankie was her next choice but then she saw that she'd chosen a partner, which was good, she chose Kent, which tactically sound. Whether they knew that or not, she couldn't say but it was still a good choice. Then it was Caitria, she was fast, which was grossly understated but still. She would be best for such a thing. She turned to Conrad though, he was her best friend, she couldn't not choose him and his powers while hey weren't as ideal as Caitria, they could d the job, it would just be a bit harder, and take a little longer.

"Conrad!" She called to him, striding up to him in all of her Asgardian glory. "Team up?" She asked with a smirk.

Plot twist. So they wouldn't be sparring each other after all. Instead, the sleepy students of Descendant Academy would be partaking in something much more interesting: a military base-themed scavenger hunt complete with barricaded defenses, hundreds of soldiers, and no hostages.

Jack couldn't stop himself from smiling.

With his powers, this would be a cake-walk in the picnic park.

"That's it? Just stroll in there, take a stupid fucking envelope and leave?" Wren was just as surprised as he was. And maybe just as pissed. "This is what we were brought here for?"

Mycroft stepped forward.

True. Then again, none of those Avengers had a radar sense that could tell them how many soldiers were in the base, how many levels to travel down, and where that pesky manilla envelope was hiding.

"Do we get anything for completing it first?"

"You can go to bed sooner than everyone else."

Music to his ears.

Before Phoebe could even turn her head to reaffirm that they would be sticking to their famous Manhattan tag team, Jack waltzed through the crowd, taking his sweet time before approaching Wren Wilson's side. As soon as the mentors departed for the elevators, he was standing right next to her.

"Hey again, Wrenpool," he trilled, looking pleased as punch for a man with bags under his eyes. "Question for you...are you feeling like speedrunning this thing? Cause I definitely feel like speedrunning this thing."

He gazed down, spinning his red helmet in both hands. "Of course, you're more than capable of handling this yourself. It would be nice to have some backup though." He leaned in closer. "And with my senses, we'd be able to find that damn envelope in less than five minutes."

Sure, he'd have to put up with her prattling and unpredictability for a short time (and maybe he'd have to dodge a few taunts as well), but with Wren's brute strength and his way of mapping out areas, it was highly likely they'd finish the stupid exercise before the sun even moved an inch in the sky. And they'd both receive stellar grades. There was no likelihood of running into any surprises.

Except if the alarms went off. But it wouldn't come to that.

He extended his hand, feeling her body temperature, heartbeat and everything inbetween. He couldn't believe what he was about to ask...

"Partners?"

Well, she would've been relieved by the details of the exercise if Jack Murdock hadn't brushed her aside so quickly.

'Insulted' wasn't even close to what she was feeling in that moment. Apparently, six years of partnership meant nothing to him. Yes, it was just a stupid exercise, but he could've at least expressed his desire to team up with Wren Wilson before completely blowing her off. It was kind of like betrayal. No, it was betrayal. He knew her strengths and weaknesses and she knew his. They gained so much recognition in New York because they balanced each other out. Instead of facing another challenge together in confidence, he was leaving Phoebe to fend for herself in the dark. Horrible, considering she was still the new kid on the block.

He had even forgotten his cellphone, which was still stuck in her hands. It was like a bolt of lightning had surged through her body, leaving her paralyzed and unable to speak. Phoebe watched with a slack jaw as he nonchalantly chatted to the crimson-haired girl at the front of the line, not even looking back in her direction.

Well, so much for staying alive.

Was it possible to complete the exercise by herself? Well yes, it certainly was. But it was also likely that she could be overwhelmed by the 'hundreds' of soldiers Mycroft claimed were inside the base. And if an alarm went off, she was a dead girl walking. Going solo meant no room for error, and with how many knots her stupefied brain was twisting itself into thanks to Jack Murdock's Benedict Arnold treachery, she knew mistakes would be impossible to avoid. She'd have to partner up with someone else. It was absolutely terrifying, but it was inevitable.

Stuffing Jack's phone and earbuds into her sweatpants pocket, she mulled over the options. Her first instinct was to run right up to Frankie, but unfortunately the descendant of Peter Parker was already inquiring the aid of Superman Junior. It would be a felony to break those two up. She saw the way they looked at each other. Anyone with half a brain knew they were like Romeo and Juliet but with spider senses and heat vision.

What about Conner? Well, he was also in the middle of teaming up with Schuyler, and Phoebe didn't have the guts to intrude upon their conversation. It was no use asking Ross or Caitria, since they both had powers that could allow them to complete the assignment without any need for backup. Ross had a mirror gun and Caitria had her speed. Teaming up with them would be to jeopardize their perfect grades.

And then there was him: the tall, dark-haired, completely inked man who stood like a spectre near the side of the hallway. She watched as Mycroft approached him, forcing the descendant of Magneto to hand over his signature helmet. Tobias would be a perfect candidate for anyone to partner with, there was no question about that. If the simulation they'd be entering was realistic enough (knowing Tony Stark's designs, it surely would be), then there would be a goldmine of metal for him to manipulate. It was all under his thumb: weapons, bullets, locks, vehicles, gravity. He could even control the iron within a person's bloodstream. Which, of course, was terrifying as hell, but particularly beneficial in this situation.

And she could be of benefit to him, too. Since his head was now vulnerable, she could offer him the protection of her shield and bracelets. He could probably even manipulate her sword so that it flew around piercing soldiers while she lassoed up the stragglers. It was a perfect strategy. It would be a terrible idea to waste...

She stared at him while he marched to the end of the hallway, placing his jacket on a hook and spinning twin metal balls in the air. He was standing just by the doors.

Say something...talk to him...

But the more she stared at his expression, the more she doubted herself. He looked vehemently determined - like he was ready to storm the base and complete the mission all by himself. Nearing him would be like breaking a runner's concentration just before the gun went off. Maybe it was fruitless to request his help. After all, he was one of the most powerful students at the academy. Asking him to partner up would also be to jeopardize his grade, which would be absolutely glowing if he ran the course alone.

Time was running out. Desperate and unwilling to take a chance, Phoebe frantically approached Frankie, hoping that her entrance wouldn't be an annoying interruption to her soirée with Mr. Kent.

"Hey," she smiled meekly, eyeing both her friend and James. "You two are going to make a great team!"

Her lips quivered as she leaned in closer to Frankie, lowly whispering in her ear.

"Um...so Jack had plans to partner with someone else...I don't know if I'll be able to do this alone. Is it possible...that, uh...that you might...have any suggestions?"

“HA! Empty threats my friend. Hyper is my natural state of being.” Cree punctuated with a pat on Ross’ back. The pills could take time to kick in on the first dose (and she was slightly concerned for the condition of his heart given how many of those he’d just wolfed down), but she hoped it would kick in soon enough for Ross to stay conscious through the whole exercise. “Heads up though, you may puke some of those up…”

Mycroft was in fine form today, Cree thought tersely as he listed off the challenge of the day. He could be a real hardass sometimes, (or, y’know…all the time…) but Cree was fairly convinced their grouchiest mentor got a bit too much personal satisfaction out of tormenting his students. The man needed a girlfriend, or boyfriend (she didn’t judge), so long as he got some regular action.

’You need to get laid…you need to get laid…you need to get laid…’ Cree chanted mentally on the off chance the telepath was listening in. Was it wise to provoke their pissiest instructor? Probably not, but Cree liked living dangerously. Besides, it wasn’t like he could call her out in it without embarrassing himself or divulging personal information to save his pride; both scenarios she currently had categorized as ‘highly unlikely’. So poke the bear she would; poke, poke, POKE.

After the challenge was outlined, Cree couldn’t help the grin that split across her face. For once, the young techno whizz didn’t feel entirely outclassed by the task ahead (namely trying to defeat her superpowered colleagues who could smash her into a wall with a flex of their pinkie). Those training rooms were almost entirely automated, and where computers were involved, Cree was the undisputed queen of the tower. With enough time to route her way into the system, she could shut the whole thing down, and certainly the robotic Hydra agents. From there it was a simple thing to walk in, get the envelope, and get out. While perhaps not technically a legal move in Mycroft’s book, it would certainly be displaying her skill set, and she wasn’t above shoving that ‘however you see fit line in his face. The real issue was going to be finding cover long enough to do it. Cree’s shock bombs would certainly short out any of the robotic Hydra agents she came up against, but she didn’t have an infinite number of them. Bullets would also probably do the trick, but she wasn’t built defensively for a swarm scenario that was likely to occur if she was caught in the act. Cree was going to need a heavy hitter, but she wasn’t sure if any of them would exactly be interested…

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The challenge might actually have been easier for Liz, if the Hydra agents were real people. Robots didn’t exactly have minds that she could probe for information, or fool in order to camouflage herself, which pretty much left stealth off the table for her. Telekinesis wasn’t exactly a subtle power, especially when used offensively, but against a mechanical foe it would have to be her route in. That left her strategic options in the ‘head on’ lane, and Liz was honestly more valuable defensively in those scenarios. It wouldn’t be impossible to eliminate the robotic Hydra agents and recover the envelope alone, but it certainly wouldn’t be the most efficient approach. Partnering up was the most practical course of action, and with that acknowledgment, Liz began sizing up her remaining prospects as other students started pairing off.

Wren might have been a good choice, as offensively inclined as her fellow mutant was, but her regenerative factor and nigh invulnerability made Liz’s defensive abilities somewhat redundant. Petra was another option to consider, but while their similarity in powers made them excellent partners in practice, it didn’t exactly lend a diverse skill set to a field team. Both were also far more likely to have other heroes vying for their partnership, both as stand outs on the power scale, and their general likability. Sometimes her lack of social skills proved inconvenient…

“So you taken yet or what?” The question came out of left field, and it took a beat for Liz to even realize it was directed at her, Of all the people Liz had suspected might approach her, Cree Luthor was not one of them. The two girls weren’t exactly close for starters, having always hovered on opposite ends of the social spectrum. It also didn’t help that Cree’s mind was as hyperactive and difficult to ignore as her mouth. Her thoughts felt very chaotic to Liz, and close proximity to the young genius left Liz feeling distinctly wooden, like being weighed down with led. Then there was the fact that Cree was far from the offensive frontal assault warrior Liz was looking to round herself out with. The sentiment must have shown on her face, because Cree plowed ahead with the universal hand gesture for ‘hear me out’.

“Now just hold on a minute, I didn’t come to the party empty handed! I’ve got a plan, just...do that whole jedi mind probe thingy and you’ll see!” Cree encouraged, tapping her own forehead for emphasis. Liz might have found the reference somewhat insulting, but the decision here was too time sensitive to take issue with it. Reluctantly, Liz let down her mental walls just enough to focus in on Cree’s mind, and the noise was immediate. The echo of other people's’ thoughts were always distantly present, like the faint patter of rain on a tin roof. Shields never fully drowned out the noise, but at least they kept you from getting wet. Trying to focus in on another’s mind, especially one as cluttered as Cree’s, was like opening a window in maelstrom, and Liz couldn’t help a wince as she tried to make sense of the jumble the other girl had playing across her mind. When she did manage to glean the plan from the other girl’s mind, Liz had to admit her strategy was a sound one. Potentially irritating Mycroft with the creative work around, was the smug little cherry that tipped the scales in Cree’s favor.

“Agreed, partners it is then.” Liz finally replied as she moved toward one of the unoccupied doors. Don’t let them know what you’re doing until it’s too late to stop it. Liz instructed her partner telepathically, eyes surveying other pairings in an attempt at casual. Liz could shield both their minds telepathically from Mycroft’s probing, a reality their mentor had grown used to where Liz was concerned, but there was nothing she could do about Cree’s mouth.

Uh, excuse’ moi! I’m very sneaky thank you very much...the sneakiest… Cree shot back mentally before turning her attention to one of the other doors. “Hey, kick some ass Ross!” Cree shouted toward her friend with a thumbs up.

See, now they won’t think we’re talking. Sneaky. If it was possible to sign telepathically, Liz did just that.

Wren sighed as she stared at the back of the steal door. God did five minutes seem to take forever to pass. She let her right hand drop to her side, pulling the pistol from her thigh holster. She popped out the clip, making sure it was full.

She froze holding the clip in her left hand, gun in her right when she heard someone step up beside her. "Hey again, Wrenpool." Jack fucking Murdock. Wren remained completely stoic, only her feet moving as she pivoted around to face him. "Question for you...are you feeling like speedrunning this thing? Cause I definitely feel like speedrunning this thing."

Her gaze fell to his red helmet that he spun in his hands. Before Jack continued talking, she shoved the clip back into the pistol. Her free left hand snatched his helmet and slid it halfway onto her head over her mask. "Of course, you're more than capable of handling this yourself. It would be nice to have some backup though." He leaned closer to her. "And with my senses, we'd be able to find that damn envelope in less than five minutes."

Of course Wren liked the idea. Why wouldn't she? But Jack's idea of speedrunning and hers... Were different... Very different. If Jack had even a sliver of what his dad had, there's the whole no killing dilemma. While Wade and Wren like guns. She wondered if he considered that before he approached her? Or was determined in finding one of the more capable students to be in and out in a jiff so he could go back to bed.

"Partners?" he asked, extending his hand towards her.

Wren snorted, cocking the slide on her pistol as she stared at his hand. "You do realize I'm as subtle as Santa Claus on the fourth of July, right?" She flicked his Daredevil helmet back like a baseball cap. "I planned on strolling right in there. Setting off the alarm, and letting those Hydra fucks come to me. Pow. Pow. Pow." She aimed her gun around in circles pretending to shoot it with every pow.

She sighed, slipping her pistol back into its holster. "But you're not bullet proof. So... I either go maximum effort with my swords, or you..." She hooks her finger in his utility belt as she steps closer. "Whip out a silencer from your batman belt."

Wren smirked, although it wasn't totally visible through her mask. She raised her right hand and removed his helmet. Then she placed it on his head, then slid her hand into his palm, barely enough room between the two of them as they shook hands.

***

Tobias clenched his jaw, staring blankly at the steel door before him. The metallic balls floating clockwise above his right palm. He just wanted the damned doors to open so he could get this over. He was so focused on his anger towards Mycroft and devising a plan of attack in his mind, that he didn't notice Thaleia approach until she spoke. "Hey," she said.

He nearly dropped the metal balls when his concentration was broken. Tobias partially turned, glancing over his shoulder at her. He was certain he probably looked similar to a deer in highlights. Not that he minded being approached or talked to, but he certainly wasn't used to it. "Hi?"

"Would you have anything against partnering up with me?"

Well, he doubted she was there to ask him how he slept or what product he used in his hair... Although he got that question a lot. "I... uh... sure. Why not." Solid response. In his defense, he was still surprised. "I didn't really plan on a stealth approach. If we set of the alarms immediately, you could take offense while I keep the fire power away from you. We'd have everyone dead before entering the building."

Tobias shrugged his shoulders, sliding the metal balls into his pocket before completely turning to face her. "Unless you had a better plan of attack?... You're not Steve Rogers or Peter Parker, so I assume you have no issue spilling blood."

***

Frankie slowly leaned over, wrapping her arms around her legs to stretch the back of her legs and back. As she stood there folded in two, she saw Phoebe approach her from the corner of her eyes. She smiled, but her mask probably veiled most of that from her friend. "Hey," Phoebe said, snaking up beside her.

"Hey there," Frankie said as she stood upright.

"You two are going to make a great team!"

Frankie glanced over her shoulder towards James with a smile, then looked back towards Phoebe. "Figured his x-ray vision could be useful... Or ya know, muscles." She laughed.

Phoebe seemed nervous as she stepped closer, and spoke softly. "Um...so Jack had plans to partner with someone else...I don't know if I'll be able to do this alone. Is it possible...that, uh...that you might...have any suggestions?"

"Hmmm..." Frankie looked around, thinking of who would be a good match for Phoebe.

But before she could say anything, T'Chioke approached. Frankie gave him a slight wave of her fingers. “Pardon my intrusion, but I was hoping I could talk to Phoebe. I’m in need of partner if you’d like to join me.”

"She'd be happy to!" Frankie smiled, giving her friend a playful nudge with her elbow. "Kick some ass."

***

Ross squatted down on the ground, removing his backpack. He unzipped it, slipping his sunglasses into it. He rubbed his eyes with a yawn, before pulling out his mirror blaster and a compact mirror the size of a cellphone. He closed up the pack and put it back on as he stood. Flipping open the compact mirror, he wiped it off on his shirt. Quick in, quick out. All for a bloody fuckin' envelope.

When he looked up, Ross noticed Petra standing a lone at the door beside him. He ignored it for awhile, sliding the mirror into his pocket and checking his mirror blaster to make sure it's at full power. "Eh red?" he said towards her with a nod of his head. Once he had gotten her attention, he took a step in her direction.

It wasn't like he thought Petra needed a partner. To the contrary, she could probably kill ever Hydra solider with a snap of her finger. But still... it was odd one of the weaker students wasn't chomping at the bit to try and snag her as a partner. Of course, Ross fell into that category. But that's a technicality. His mirrors gave him some abilities that even the supers didn't have. So, he was mortal. That just makes things interesting. He didn't need a partner and neither did she, but knowing that at least someone would enjoy teaming up with you makes it all better.

Ross cleared his throat, holding his blaster between his left bicep and ribcage. "I know ya don' need a partner. I'd bet you could bloody well destroy everyone with a wave of yer hand. But... If'd like someone to have yer back, you can always go in with meh." He gave a slight smile with a shrug of his shoulders. "I could get us in and out easy enough. Throw in your finger wiggles, we can be back in bed before they know what hit 'em."

With that, he nodded his head towards her and walked back over towards his own door. Ross' free hand rubbed his eyes, yawning yet again. He figured if Petra wanted to take him up on his offer, she'd com over to him. If not? Well, he'd do it solo then.

***

When the five minutes were up, an alarm bell dinged throughout the hall. Then all at once, the steel doors opened into the simulation rooms. The corridor instantly was flooded with blizzard winds whipping out from the rooms. The simulation dropped them at the top of a snow covered hill in the middle of a snow storm at night. Surrounding the hill is a thick forest that stretches for a mile before opening up to a Hydra base nearly the size of the pentagon. Twenty stories high, with twenty more sublevels. Over 500 soliders secured the premises on the grounds and throughout the building. They have heavy artillery, trip lines and men stationed at every turn. The main frame is located on the lowest level behind 3 foot thick bullet proof glass, no way in or out other than that door.

***

Wren clapped her hands together with a bounce in her step, before flicking her index finger on the horn on Jack's helmet. "Come on Evel Knievel, let's see those moves."

With that, she skipped her way through the door and out into the knee deep snow. Wren stopped at the top of the hill, raising her left hand to block the snow from blowing into her face so she could get a good look at the base. It was large... She couldn't tell how many were down there, but there was enough.

But instead of devising a plan of attack, a way of penetrating the facility... Wren yanked off her left glove and threw it into the wind. "Let it go!" She spun around in a circle with her arms spread. "Let it—" She quickly snapped out of it, chasing after the glove. "Get back you piece of shit!" She jumped up in the air, snatching it back and quickly slid it on her hand.

She looked back towards Jack, sifting her way through the snow in his direction. "We're... a mile out? We could try to hit the base from the back," Wren snorted at the pervertedness of her statement. "Or go right in through the front doors. I'll leave that up to you handsome." With that she hopped onto his back, piggyback style. Her left arm wrapped around his torso, while her right hand pointed forward. "Mush!!"

***

When the doors flew open, Tobias instinctually turned his back towards the wind, blocking himself and Thaleia. He clenched his jaw, reaching up and taking his jacket from the hook he placed it on. Turns out he'd be needing it after all. After zipping it up, he motioned his hand for the lady to go first. Not out of fear or because she expendable, but because, despite what people think, he is a gentleman.

Tobias followed Thaleia into the simulation, tucking his hands into his pockets. He trudged his way through the deep snow, squinting through the snow to try and get a good view of the base. He pointed his hand towards the building, then looked back towards his partner. "We could walk, take out a couple on our way... Or..."

He hesitated before speaking again, it was a weird statement that he was used to a negative response. "If you trust me, I could fly us there... You could pick some off with a silencer, or just blast away like Wren Wilson. I suggest stealth while mid air, it's more difficult to curve bullets and focus on levitating two people." Tobias raised his brows in her direction. "But I'll leave that up to you..."

***

Frankie turned her face away from the door when the freezing air blasted through the open doorway and hit her like a train. She raised her right arm to block as much of it as possible as her steps sunk into the deep snow. Thankfully her mother's suit, although thin, blocked a lot of the cold and wind, but that didn't mean she couldn't feel it. She wasn't sure if James would follow or not but either way it was a mile trek to the base... And swinging on webs through a dense forest is a quick way to turn into George of the jungle, and slam into a tree.

So with a deep breath, she crossed her arms, tucking her hands under them and started walking towards the bunker. Thankfully, her suit was partly white... That had to be some advantage right?

***

Ross tugged the beanie tighter onto his head as he walked against the strong winds into the simulation. Once at the peak of the hill, he studied the base. Luckily for him there were windows... Which meant reflective surfaces. He glanced back over his shoulder towards Petra, adjusting his backpack, tightening the straps. "The only reflective surfaces I can make out 're the windows of the buildin' itself. So, the minute we step through, we'll most likely meet dick heads 'n guns."

He pulled the compact mirror out of his pocket, staring into the surface searching for the appropriate window. "If we both go in opposite directions, we could take out who ever is in the room." Ross dropped the mirror on the ground, with the reflection facing upward. He shot it once with his mirror blaster. He glanced over his shoulder towards Petra, extending his right hand towards her. "Do ya trust meh?"

Wren simply snorted, cocking the slide on her pistol as she gazed down at his hand. "You do realize I'm as subtle as Santa Claus on the fourth of July, right?"

He was surprised she was willing to admit her own crazy. She snatched his Daredevil helmet and flicked it back on her head like a baseball cap.

I let her do that, he tried to convince himself.

"I planned on strolling right in there. Setting off the alarm, and letting those Hydra fucks come to me. Pow. Pow. Pow." Instinctively, his readiness rose as she aimed her gun around in circles, pretending to shoot. He figured a simple demonstration was no excuse for Wren Wilson to keep her finger off the trigger.

"Well, you can do that," he smirked, "but I'll be taking them out in a more responsible manner." He knew she reveled in killing bad guys - something he wasn't partial to. But despite his usual "no killing unless the circumstance is dire" code, Jack wasn't opposed to killing in this exercise. They'd be entering a simulation, after all. Like a video game. Despite Stark's talent for staying true to life, the soldiers inside would be made of pixels and computer code, not real flesh and blood. Murdering them wouldn't matter unless each student was graded upon their choices. Still, he'd prefer to knock
his enemies out. For practice.

Wren sighed, finally slipping her pistol back into its holster. "But you're not bullet proof. So... I either go maximum effort with my swords, or you..." she hooked her finger in his utility belt and stepped closer. "Whip out a silencer from your batman belt."

He cocked his head to the side, flashing her a seductive smirk. "Have no use for a silencer, darling, but I do carry a big stick..."

She placed his helmet back on his head, then slid her hand into his palm, barely enough room between the two of them as they shook hands. He could feel her sultry breath on his skin.

It was then the alarm bell dinged. The steel doors opened to a rush of icy air. While others backed away, Wren was the first to bounce forward. "Come on Evel Knievel," she flicked an index finger on the horn of his helmet. "Let's see those moves."

He shook his head in both astonishment and dread, then swiftly prowled behind.

The snow was a lot deeper than anticipated. He practically stood on the edge of the cliff, focusing through the rush of falling snow. After about a minute, he had a rough estimate of what lay ahead.

"Here's what I'm picking up," he began, "Four stories altogether. Twenty above, twenty below. I hear some soldiers marching around inside, as well as patrolling the outside. I'd say maybe four hundred, five hundred altogether? Loaded with heavy artillery. One of them's having a bit of target practice somewhere in the sub-levels. Watch your step: they've planted a few trip lines. There's some sort of weird wall on the very last floor. It's three feet thick and there's one way in. That must be the main frame..."

Adjusting the padding on his arms, he turned to Wren.

"You ready?"

She was busy in la la land.

"Let it go!" the daughter of Deadpool spun around in a circle with her arms wide apart. "Let it—" She quickly snapped out of it, chasing after the glove she had flung into the wind. "Get back you piece of shit!" She leapt in the air, snatching and sliding it back on her hand.

He chuckled. "Sorry to interrupt your big number, Adele Dazeem, but we need to think up a plan. Preferably soon."

She stepped towards him. "We're... a mile out? We could try to hit the base from the back..."

They snorted at the same time.

"That's what she said..."

"...Or go right in through the front doors. I'll leave that up to you handsome."

Unexpectedly, she pounced on him, wrapping her legs around his waist piggyback style. She was a lot lighter than he expected. "Mush!!"

"Oh, so I'm your sled dog now," Jack teased with a small sigh while carrying her down the mountain. This was what he got for partnering with Wren Wilson. There was no way he'd be crawling into bed after this: the whole ordeal was keeping him wide awake. He had almost forgotten Wrenpool hailed from Toronto. The crazy Canadian child in her probably got energized by the cold.

As he approached the lush forest below, Jack soundlessly thought up a plan of action.

"So if we could fly like Supes Jr., the most convenient way in would be through the roof. But since we're both landlubbers, I'd say the best way to tackle this would be to split up, then meet somewhere in the middle and go through the main frame together. That way we'd divide their forces in half. I know how much you love the element of surprise..."

The snowy ground grew less shallow the more his feet trekked forward. "Since you've made it clear your trigger finger's itching, I suggest you take the front. A lot more men up there. I'll quickly head through the back and ambush them from behind. They'll be trapped that way."

He smiled, huffing a bit. "Sound like a plan, Wrenpool?"

As soon as she had asked Frankie for advice, a distinctive voice immediately responded.

“Pardon my intrusion," spoke T'Chioke, the Prince of Wakanda, "but I was hoping I could talk to Phoebe. I’m in need of a partner if you’d like to join me.”

Phoebe looked back and blinked twice, surprised. Had she heard him correctly?

"Oh. Wow, uh-"

"She'd be happy to!" Frankie answered for her. "Kick some ass."

Her social butterfly of a friend playfully nudged an elbow against her shoulder, unpreparedly sending Phoebe a few paces forward in an abrupt lack of coordination. She caught her balance just before bumping into the prince's Black Panther suit. Right below him, she looked up into T'Chioke's eyes, her own eyes wide as saucers.

"Hi," she murmured, unaware her cheeks flushed pink. His expression was oddly charming.

T'Chioke was a character, to say the very least. Some people at the academy claimed he had a strange personality. (Or in rare cases, no personality at all.) Many others found it difficult to trust him. Phoebe had yet to learn why, but from Jack's commentary, she figured it had something to do with how he valued people. He was involved in politics, after all. Even lawyers needed
to learn the strengths and weaknesses of the partners they worked with. It may have deterred others, but his system of judgement only proved he was a strategist. And strategy was preparedness. Preparedness was victory.

He was exactly what she needed to pass this examination. What perplexed her was his willingness to choose her help over another student's. There were many more experienced players in the pack. If he approached her, then she must have meant something to him. But what?

Well, there was a plausible explanation. He was a prince and she was a princess, the difference being he had his subjects' support while she had yet to win hers over. Maybe this was more than just a partnership for an assignment: maybe he was trying to gain something. Alternatively, maybe she had something to learn from him...

Stop. You're overthinking this.

The alarms painfully sounded, pulling Phoebe from her thoughts. She took two steps back and looked over her shoulder, noticing the silver-white winds of the mountain slipping through each steel door. The room's temperature dropped several degrees as snowflakes and frost poured in. Partially a problem, considering she was dressed in a green tank top and sweatpants. (In other words, her pajamas.) The Amazonian armor only covered her chest - it did nothing to protect her arms. Not the Amazons' faults, since they lived on a warm tropical island, after all. However, she had inherited her mother's warm Amazonian blood and fortunately didn't feel the full wrath of cold weather. Because both mother and daughter had some imperviousness to extreme chill, they never really worried about the frosty Boston winters. Once, her mother had told her a story about how Hawk Girl questioned whether she felt cold in her superhero outfit. After realizing she was resistant to both high and low temperatures, she claimed that Diana didn't sweat, but glowed.

Well, maybe Phoebe wouldn't be glowing after this excercise, but at least she wouldn't be dying of hypothermia to a Stark simulation.

She tightly wrapped the warm lasso of Hestia around the grips of her shield and pulled the heated metal close to her chest. It was extremely tempting to rope the weapon around her shoulders, but Phoebe knew doing so ran the risk of revealing her own deep dark secrets. And with someone like T'Chioke around, that wouldn't be a wise move.

"I guess we should go..." she turned to him. "Ready when you are."

Closing her eyelids, she whispered a quiet prayer to Athena, asking for guidance and protection. Her mother drilled the practice into her ever since she was young.

Give me eyes to see far, to see true, to see within; give me heart to bear it, give me strength to hold fast.

She then entered through one of the steel doors, sinking into the knee-deep flurry. She stared far off into the forest, feeling the patter of snowfall against her face. Despite its strength, there was something refreshing about it.

Soon enough she found the base, and silently pointed it out to T'Chioke with the tip of her blade. "So," she turned to him, twirling the sword in preparation, "do you have a plan?"

"Oh, so I'm your sled dog now," Jack retorted when Wren jumped on his back for a quick lift. But, he didn't throw her off his back or stop mid step refusing to go farther until she got off. So, how mad could he really be?

"Oh... I'm not that heavy," Wren scoffed, rested her chin on his shoulder as they approached the facility.

As they trudged.... Well Jack trudged them through the forest he began to divulge his plan for attack.

When the snow began to get more shallow, Wren slipped off Jack's back. She walked up beside him, adjusting her inconveniently tight suit before hooking her thumbs in her utility belt. "Since you've made it clear your trigger finger's itching, I suggest you take the front. A lot more men up there. I'll quickly head through the back and ambush them from behind. They'll be trapped that way." He smiled towards her. "Sound like a plan, Wrenpool?"

Wren's hands grabbed her pistols. "Just remember you're not bullet proof lover boy." She would have winked to him or something else suggestive but she was wearing a mask so it'd just look like she was staring awkwardly. She started walking towards the tree line in the direction of the front of the base. She turned around, walking backwards as she added a final comment. "I'll try to keep the alarms from going off... But, don't worry. Your catholic boy morals will still be intact. It's just a simulation."

With that, she pivoted on her heels and sprinted straight for the front door. Surprisingly, Wren was able to walk right out in the open without anyone noticing her. She's in a red fucking suit. She raised her pistol and shot out the two immediate security cameras she saw on either side of the base. Every soldier seemed to freeze where they were and turn to face her. "Now that I have your atten—"

Then there was a gun shot. Slammed Wren right in the chest, throwing her back on the ground. "Ow! That hurt asshole," she groaned. She slowly rolled over onto all fours. Without even looking she raised her gun and popped one right into the head of the stupid Hydra dude that shot her. "Your interrupted my speech!"

Wren pushed off the ground, hopping up onto her feet. Then the alarm blared ringing a loud siren in her ears while red lights around the base began flashing. "Oops." Well, hopefully Murdock doesn't hate me forever. She pointed her pistols up into the air, shooting off a couple loud rounds to get everyones attention to the front. "Show time!"

It took a whole... 5 minutes? Maybe 6, Wren wasn't counting minutes, she was counting bullets. Halfway through the onslaught she had to switch to swords. She always seemed to either forget ammo or never pack enough. She stepped over the heaps of boundaries, grunting and groaning at the bullet holes in her arm, leg and more than a few in her torso. She skipped her way through the base with ease, making her way down to the mainframe. When she reached the 3 foot think glass door blocking off the envelope, she sheathed her swords and leaned back against the door, crossing her arms over her chest. Now to wait.

***

"Well, last time I checked, it was your dad who's evil, not you," the brunette stated rather bluntly. "No reason not to trust you, and I'm not squeamish." Thaleia's gaze drifted towards him. "Knock your socks off. Just don't kill me, and this partnership'll work."

Tobias gave a weak laugh. "I won't, as long as you don't draw too much attention to us in the air." He stepped up behind her, towering over her as his left arm wrapped around her waist. It was always best to keep one arm free incase he needed to divert fire, but having a hold of Thaleia made him control their levitation easier. "Hold onto your bullets."

With that he lifted them up into the air and then higher. Tobias made sure to keep them high and hopefully out of sight. He held tight to Thaleia as they closed in on the base, letting her do what she does best as he controlled their flight. But the longer they were up there, the more he realized they were out in the open, without cover or camouflage. So once he figured enough on the ground were picked off, he lead them towards the roof of the base.

Below them, Tobias could see seven guards standing at different vantage points, watching the ground around the base. "Don't make any sudden movements," Tobias told Thaleia as he released his grasp on her. He focused some of his attention at holding the brunette where she floated in the air, while he lowered himself behind a guard on the roof. His right hand hovered over his pocket, willing his fingers slightly while his left hand was aimed up at Thaleia.

Then what happened next flashed in the blink of an eye. The metal spheres shot out from Tobias' pocket and zipped through the air, knocking each of the Hydra men in the head one after the other. When the balls landed back in the palm of his hand all of the guards hit the ground in unison. Without glancing back, Tobias lowered his left hand gently guiding Thaleia down to the roof top. "Work our way down?" He motioned his head towards the roof top entrance.

***

Frankie had made it halfway through the woods towards the base. It seemed as she walked the snow only got deeper and the temperature colder. When she was almost to the base, her heart nearly broke out of her ribcage when she felt a hand grab her by the arm. She spun around, balling up her fist getting ready to slug whatever Hydra meathead tried to sneak up on her. Just before she would have hit him, she realized it was Nathaniel.

"Oh my god," she gasped, resting her hand on her heart as she tried to catch her breath. This time she intentionally punched him in the shoulder. Not hard enough to do any damage but to get her point across. "You shouldn't sneak up on people like that... I could have killed you or... Thrown you off balance." She laughed. Nathaniel was a walking wall and even with her super strength, she probably couldn't put a dent in him.

"There's no way I'm letting you do this alone." The towering man gave a faint smile while releasing her arm.

"You know, I am a big kid... I can lift nearly as much as you. And," she raised an index finger, "I'm more flexible." But she wasn't going to argue about having a partner or anything. Just wanted to prove a point that she could handle herself.

"Do you have a plan?"

"Actually I do." Frankie started to run ahead to the edge of the tree line that put them at the back of the facility. She looked out from around the trees seeing a break in the guards for maybe a minute tops. She grabs Nathaniel by the hand and placing him in the proper position. She pressed her hands down on his shoulders to make him crotch then guided his hands so that his fingers were entangled, palms up. "Launch me, towards that window." She pointed her hand at the a window up on the 9th floor.

Frankie backed up into the woods a good 50 or so feet back from Nathaniel. Then she sprinted at him, placing her right foot into his palms. As he shot her up in the air, she shot out webs on either side of the window and pulled herself even faster towards the window. With their joint force, feet first she broke through the thick glass with ease. Still mid air, flying through the window, Frankie released the webs on the side of the building and shot new ones to her right and left. The webs grabbed hold guards on either side of her. When she hit the ground, Frankie hunched over and yanked them towards the other. With a crash they both slammed into each other and were instantly knocked unconscious.

She gave each a tap with her foot to make sure they were out before she hurried back over to the window. Frankie leaned her head out looking in either direction. She didn't have long to get Nathaniel up before the guards could see him. "Brace yourself," she whispered down to him. Then she shot both webs down at him, grabbing hold of both of his shoulders. She braced her left foot against the window sill and gave a forceful jerk.

It'd be an understatement saying Frankie sometimes underestimates her own strength. She had to quickly duck down as Nathaniel came shooting through the window after her. She reached out her hands and quickly grabbed hold of him before he slammed into the wall or anything else that'd make a lot of noise or hurt him. "You ok?" she asked with her hands on his shoulders.

After looking him over, Frankie looked around then back towards him. "That's as far as I got with my plan..." She gave a quiet chuckle.

***

"Simulation, so I can't sense them," Petra said.

Ross could see the tension rise in her at the comment. Understandable why she'd take him up on his offer after all. When some of the things your rely on to fight don't work, it's nice to have someone to split the work with. He zipped up his jacket as he spoke, "Don' worry lass. We won't be here long enough to need it."

He waited next to their mirror portal with his hand outstretched. Petra didn't seem to hesitate as she came to stand by him and take his hand. "I trust you. Let's go kick some simulated guard ass."

Ross held tight to her as he jumped through the mirror, bringing her in with him. Once in the mirror realm, he didn't let go though. If anything he held onto her hand tighter making sure he didn't lose her within it. Everything around them appeared like shards of glass moving and shifting. Each surface showing a different view. One looks into a bathroom of one of the penthouses in the tower. Another looks out from the lenses of Mycroft's glasses. It was easy to get mixed up, confused or lost within the mirror world.

"This s'not a place ye liked to be lost. Bein' trapped in here... Without this," he held up his mirror blaster. "You'll n'er get out. Trapped forever like a fly on the wall, watchin' the world flash by without ya."

He came to a halt when many of the surfaces that surrounded them looked like different views of the base. Reflection off a sniper's scope. window looking out towards the woods. Puddle from melting ice. "No... No... No..." He thoroughly checked each surface trying to find which ever would get them the closest to the envelope. As he kept searching, he nearly passed a small sliver where two guards were standing. Ross got closer and could see past their shoulders a thick glass door and the envelope.

"There, he said, pointing at the envelope. Ross looked around seeing if he could find the surface of the glass door itself but to no luck. Somehow the surface wasn't reflective enough or something, but this would have to do. With his free hand, he took his mirror blaster and shot the shard that showed the guards and envelope. "3... 2... 1..."

Ross jumped through, pulling Petra along with him. The second they were through, he released her hand and went after the first guard. He threw his right foot into the man's torso, sending him flying back into the wall. He then yanked the guards helmet off and slammed it into the guy's head knocking him out. Ross pivoted on his heel, turning to face the other guard. He chucked the helmet at him, nailing the solider in the gut. As he was doubled over, Ross ran over too him and thrusted his elbow upward into the guy's nose.

The second guard slumped down the ground as Ross walked back over to Petra, hooking his mirror blaster on his belt. "So... Got an idea how to get us, in there?" He pointed at the 3 foot thick glass wall. "This would be a good time for yer finger wiggles," he said, wiggling his fingers at her with a sarcastic grin.

Wren whipped out her pistols. "Just remember you're not bullet proof lover boy."

Lover boy? Well, it was a step up from pompous asshole.

"Thanks for the reminder," he coldly quipped, removing the billy club from it's sheathe on his left hip. So much for boasting the regenerative healing factor, overlooking the clunky red armor he called a suit. Maybe he wasn't blessed with limbs that could regrow themselves, but the majority of his costume was bulletproof. (Save for his chin and strapping smile, which were unprotected by the Daredevil helmet.)

The tree line approached. Sure, it was a large building, but for a twenty-story Hydra military base, it looked small from close-up. He had seen bigger buildings in New York. Maybe it was an optical illusion - a trick to dissuade intruders of its compact power. Wren walked backwards, into the open air. "I'll try to keep the alarms from going off... But, don't worry. Your catholic boy morals will still be intact. It's just a simulation."

"Thanks." A suppressed gut feeling informed him that wouldn't be the case. "Good luck. And for future reference," Jack pivoted on his heels, striding horizontally. "I'm not a saint like my father."

★ ★ ★

Two guards stood watch beside the rear entrance, machine guns pressed to their chests. Their uniforms were heavy so as to keep the biting cold at bay, but underneath their Hydra getups, both men were shivering. They conversed in German, distracting themselves from the pain of standing in a fearsome blizzard.

"What a nice day," deadpanned one, his fat nose flushed in a precarious pink shade. "What I wouldn't give to join the boys in the kitchen, a coffee warm between my hands."

"It would feel nice, but wouldn't remove the frostbite," replied the other. He was an icicle: pointed features, lanky, and blue from brains to balls. He had been standing out in the cold far longer than his counterpart.

"Ah well, least our shift will-"

A crunching noise sounded. Not too far, not too close. The men's gazes locked.

"Did you hear that?" chattered the skinny soldier. He had been standing in the same position for so long, moving his legs felt like breaking through a thick layer of rime.

"Ja," seethed the other, quickly inserting a fresh magazine into his gun. "I'll check right, you check left."

While the fat-nosed man departed into a crowded vehicle lot, His partner frantically flanked to a barbed wire fence. The tall forest loomed nearby, menacing in the pale moonlight. Perhaps the disturbance had just been an animal taking a stroll from out of the trees. He called into the wind, expecting a response from whomever or whatever made that unusual sound in the snow. But nothing claimed his attention. So he tread further, turned a corner and received an answer far worse than anticipated.

All his comrades were buried in the snow, bruised and slightly bloody. Someone had knocked them out clean without creating a blaring ruckus.

From afar, he heard a single pistol shot. Was something happening at the front of the base? Before he could head over and check, a shriek rang through his ears. "Wolfgang!"

He charged towards the maze of armored cars, desperate to find his other half before the threat could stun him as well. Soon enough, he discovered Wolfgang lying face-down on the ground, just below the long cannon of a tank. The terrified soldier whipped his machine gun out in front of him, zooming left and right to try and target the attacker. But he forgot to look in one crucial direction...

Up.

Leaping from the top of the tank, Jack pounced on the poor devil, slamming his frail body into the snowy ground. Unwilling to waste time, he dashed towards the door, bracing himself for the onslaught of soldiers patrolling the hallway. He broke the hanging lamps above using the launching cable of his club, then focused. In the darkness, he found a rhythm. Left. Right. Jab. Kick. Fighting became a blurred rush, made predictable by the knowledge of every punch and gunshot to come. He figured it was all taken care of, since the guards were blinded by pitch-blackness and were practically shooting themselves due to limited sight.

Then the alarm rang.

Not only was the sound excruciating, but small ceiling lights strobed on and off, blowing his cover. Painfully gritting his teeth, Jack pressed both palms to his helmet in an attempt to readjust his senses. First piggyback rides, now a thundering nightmare. This is what you get for partnering with Wren Wilson. A bruised soldier grabbed him from behind, another striking into his gut. A wake up call for his enhanced perception, he bore through the pain and used the cable between his twin sticks to disorient both soldiers, tripping others who lingered ahead. Then he shattered the lights for a second time, staying near to the ground until he found the stairs. His feet flew down each step as briskly as possible while his ears heard the unfortunate charge of soldiers following behind. They trailed a great distance, but each one would have to be defeated in the mainframe.

Luckily, Wren was waiting for him below, her spry figure bent against the thick glass wall. "Great job," he caustically commented, "You've alerted every guard to our presence. Now we can't leave unless we've terminated them all." His brain was spinning like a top, quickly improvising a plan.

"They're coming," he jolted, finding a chair beside the wall and slamming the entry door shut. He stuck the metal seat between the handle and ground, preventing admission from the outside. Hopefully the makeshift barricade would buy them some time. If anything, it allowed Jack a good second to use his radar sense, scanning the area for curiosities. The mechanics and layout of the room were pretty uncooperative, save for one thing. He swiveled on his feet, frantically pressing his gloved palms into the glass. There had to be a way in. There had to be some sort of...aha.

"It's unhelpfully small, but there's a scanner inside the glass," Jack rushed. "I think it's one of those retinal-lock things? Don't know for sure. The glass is bulletproof, so breaking through is out of the question. We need to crack the lock to get in."

Perhaps the fleet of incoming soldiers wouldn't be such a curse after all. If he knocked them out (or in Wren's case, sliced them apart), they'd be able to test the lock using one of the guard's eyes. Then they could retrieve that damn envelope. It wasn't a foolproof plan, but it was worth a shot.

As if on cue, loud knocks reverberated throughout the room. Jack strolled to the metal chair, ready to unhinge it from the door handle. Once he pulled their barricade away, a wave of soldiers would flood into the mainframe. A tense fight indeed. After a long exhale, he looked to his partner, his mouth curled into an apologetic smirk. She may have set off the alarm, but he was the one who brought down a swarm of enemies.

"You ready for this, Wrenpool?"

“My plan is to find a guard, use that lasso of yours to get the location of the envelope. The guard will forget what happened and go to work. We’ll find the location and then get out. My senses will keep track of an incoming guards that come our way and keep an eye out for any traps.”

"Solid strategy." she complimented. Phoebe had almost forgotten the power of her own lasso, seeing as she hadn't used it for interrogative work since entering the academy.

“I can go scope out the outer area of the facility. See if there is an entrance that isn’t too heavily guarded.” T'Chioke offered while pressing a few buttons on his suit. She nodded at the idea, studying the area from their mountaintop location. The main building was fearsome and well-reinforced, but the outer skirts of the Hydra base had a plethora of flaws.

"You see that watchtower over there?" she pointed to a small structure on the right. A spotlight shined through its window, panning over the area's front lines so as to spot intruders. "There's someone manning it, but it's unguarded. I can interrogate the soldier inside. Once you've found a safe entrance, let's meet up on top and proceed through the base together."

She gazed over her shoulder to see if he favored the idea, but saw no sign of him. "Where did you...oh." Noticing a fresh batch of footprints in the snow, Phoebe realized the prince had turned invisible - another astounding feature of his Black Panther suit. It was best to proceed through the mission with stealth instead of brute force. Not only would it be safer, but T'Chioke's suit warranted a quieter approach. It would take longer, but was more preferable than picking off a hive of Hydra soldiers.

"Good luck," she wished him as she went on her own way, darting through the shadowy forest in haste. The lasso provided some light through the night's darkness. Hopefully there were no cameras in the trees. Once she reached the woodland's edge, Phoebe approached the watchtower's stairs, stopping herself before her boots snapped a thin tripwire. That was close. She stretched over it and quietly climbed each metal stair, careful not to trip over any icy ground. At the top, a man stood with his back turned, unaware of her presence.

She whipped the lasso forward and it grappled onto his foot, jerking him back into the watchtower's walled shelter. He hit the ground with a loud thud. Phoebe quickly got to work, wrapping the golden rope around his upper body. He writhed like a rodent caught in a python's hold, but fortunately stayed in place.

"Where is the envelope?" she firmly asked, her face sharper than a hawk's. He choked on his own breath, desperate to say as he pleased but coaxed to reveal the truth."It's-" he paused, scrunching his features, trying with all his might to hold it in. "It's...in the mainframe. Twenty stories down. Kept behind a thick, bulletproof door. There's a scanner inside the glass used to open it."

"Thank you." And with that, Phoebe knocked her knee into his forehead, sending him to sleep. Even in rest, he appeared frightened. To his luck, the man would forget the entire encounter once he regained consciousness. Nothing about his words seemed to concern her, save for the scanner. T'Chioke's vibranium-based claws should have been enough to break the glass, but if it couldn't be cracked, they'd need to find a way to bypass the lock. While she waited for the Black Panther, the daughter of Wonder Woman found a manila folder of maps and blueprints resting upon a nearby table. There were even lists detailing the weapons and vehicles each soldier possessed. She flicked through every page, printing the images into her memory. If they were going to complete the mission without alerting attention, they would have to know the base inside and out.

The second Caitria finished her exercise and stepped out from the door, the simulation shut off revealing a fifty foot by fifty foot square room as the door closed behind her.

Mycroft sat in his chair before the dozens of monitors beside Coulson. He leaned forward in his seat and checked off her name on his clip board in the pass box. He then pressed the button for the intercom so that he could speak to her. "Congratulations Ms. Allen. You are the first to finish your simulation. We ask that you take a seat in the lobby at the far end of the hall as we wait for your other classmates finish."

Phil then leaned forward, adding another comment. "Although you passed the simulation Ms. Allen, we ask that next time you are posed with a circumstance like this that you consider team work. Those that fight alone die alone... Everyone needs alliances because you won't always be faced with a situation where your particular skill set is the best option. Everyone at this academy has a specific set of skills that are different anyone else. You shouldn't be so quick to discredit that."

Mycroft cleared his throat. "Do not open that envelope.... we'll still fail you if you open it, or if you leave before everyone has rejoined us."

***

Wren looked up from the ground when Jack entered the mainframe. "Took ya long enough diablo,"she pushed off the wall, taking a step towards him.

"Great job. You've alerted every guard to our presence. Now we can't leave unless we've terminated them all."

"I said I'd try not to set the alarm off. I promised nothing."

"They're coming," Jack said, sounding a bit frantic. He quickly moved around the room like a busy bee while she stood unhelpfully in the way with her arms crossed watching him. He slammed the door shut and found a metal chair to prop against it. Oh, yeah sure. That'll stop them. "It's unhelpfully small, but there's a scanner inside the glass. I think it's one of those retinal-lock things? Don't know for sure. The glass is bulletproof, so breaking through is out of the question. We need to crack the lock to get in."

Wren sighed while rolling her eyes. "Oh, don't go getting your horns in a knot." She pulled her right pistol from its holster, checking the clip... Empty. That's what she figured. She took a step back looking around the room, checking trajectory from the entrance and available combat space.

While her mind was trying to piece together some semblance of a plan, Jack walked over to the door. Hydra soldiers furiously banging on the other side while he prepared to move the chair. "You ready for this, Wrenpool?"

She was snapped back to the current moment, holding out her hands. "Wait... woah. Do you have some kind of death wish Sparky?" Wren walked over to him, yanking his hand away from the chair. As she spoke, she started moving him into the position she figured had the best chance of not getting hit by ricochet bullets. "I may have set the alarm off, but you failed to kill you half."

Wren grabbed his shoulders, angling him just the way she needed. She took both of his hands, holding them roughly six inches apart with the palms upwards. "Don't move!" She unsheathed her katanas and walked over to the door. With one more warning glance, reiterated. "If you move, you'll probably die. So, just trust my mad genius once... Ok?"

With that, Wren raised her foot and kicked the chair out of the way, chucking it back against the wall. The door flew open. She didn't hesitate, plunging her blades straight through the first two soldiers faces. She then proceeded to kick the others out of the way and back, shifting her body to take as many bullets in herself as possible rather than risk morals over there. "Back the fuck up, ugly!" she shouted, head butting another solider as she herded the guards back, her blades still in the faces of the now dead soldiers.

As quickly as she could manage, Wren pivoted around, holding up an index finger towards Jack. "Be right back." Her finger shifted so that it now pointed accusingly at him. "Don't move." She grabbed the door, slamming it shut behind her.

All that could be heard was rustling and scuffling of dozens of feet. Random bursts of gun fire echoed throughout the hall, one ricochet bullet taking out the alarm. The occasional scream and groan was muffled from the other side of the door. "Ouch!" A loud thud banged into the wall. "That is no way to treat a lady!" Another round of fire exploded, a few zipping their way through the door but missed Jack.

Then the door was knocked backwards off its hinges. A decapitated body collapsing on top of it, into the mainframe. "Heads up!" Wren shouted at Jack, tossing him the head. The bloodies mass landed in his hands perfectly, just like she planned it. "Well don't just stand there! Open it!" She turned back to the few lingering soldiers that were in the hall. One felt the need to stab her in the side as her blade pierced the man beside him. With a swift move, she yanked her katana to the left, slicing it through the remaining hydra guards.

Wren ran up to stand behind Jack. Even with her red suit, it was obvious she was covered in a lot of blood. Her own, of course. Simulations can't bleed. She constantly kept looking back over her shoulder towards the door. There was more, and it was only a matter of time before they were there. It wasn't so much that she worried about her own safety... She'd live. But she didn't want Jack to get hurt... Because she'd fail. That obviously was the reason... The only reason.

Once he got the door open, she motioned her hand towards the envelope. "Put it in your suit, quickly." Jack had a bullet proof suit, if she remembered correctly. Wren, on the other hand, had no need for something like that. It'd just slow her down. But instead of letting him leave, she stepped in front of him, digging her hands into her utility belt. "Get ready."

Wren's hand emerged from her belt with a grenade in hand. The second the Hydra guards began to flood into the room, she pulled the pin free with her teeth and tossed the grenade out into the main room. Simultaneously, her right foot slammed the bullet proof door shut, locking them both behind its barrier. The soldiers scrambled over one another, racing out of the room. Wren quickly turned around, shoving Jack back against the wall farthest from the thick glass. She held him there, pinned against the wall. She pressed herself up behind him, trying to block as much of his body as possible with her hands on the wall.

She squinted her eyes and held her ground, fighting the urge to falter when the grenade went off. Although the glass wall was bullet proof, it wasn't explosion proof. It shattered on impact, sending shards flying in every direction. Wren winced as a fair amount lodged themselves in her, mostly small pieces aside from a couple knife sized pieces in her side, back and calf.

"Yup," Thaleia responded as she made her way to the entrance, scooping it out. "If we set the alarms off, just go crazy with your powers. Assuming your powers work on simulation."

Tobias slowly followed after her to the entrance, keeping the metal spheres in his left hand instead of returning them to his pocket. It would only eat up time if he had to get them out again. "Even if they don't... Between these and all the metal you have on you," he meant in weaponry. "We'll be fine."

Thaleia reloaded her guns as he waited patiently. "Let's go, Maggy Jr. Hope you aren't too touchy about nicknames."

Tobias' jaw clenched at the nickname. He didn't care about nicknames... But it was the fact he was referred to a junior version of his horrid father that set him on edge. Now was the time to get into an argument. So, instead of saying anything he swallowed it back.

She finally opened the door that lead down into the base, then turned towards him. "Feel free to do your thing."

He didn't argue. Tobias moved past her and quietly hurried down the stairs. When he reached a turn in the hall, he leaned back against the wall, peaking his head around the corner. Two guards stood talking at the far end with their backs to him. No better time to test how realistic Stark made this. He held up his right hand towards the men. For a moment nothing happened, then they started struggling and collapsed on the ground as he siphoned all the iron from their blood. He looked back over his shoulder at Thaleia. "They work."

At that moment, he almost flipped like a switch. Tobias didn't have to be stealthy anymore. With trigger finger behind him and his own powers. Alarm or no alarm... this simulation is over before it began. He lead them through the winding hallways, whenever they came across another Hydra soldier he either crushed their helmets with their skulls still inside, cut them in half with their own belts or even lodged their own gold teeth into their brain. He let Thaleia have some kills too. After all, it had to be fifty fifty. He had to restrain himself from killing all of them, but in his defense she chose him.

They reached a desk that sat across from the elevators. Tobias held his left hand out towards the lift, bringing it up to their level as he sifted through the paper work trying to find the location of the mainframe, but there was nothing. "Guess we'll have to go one floor at a time," he said with annoyance in his voice as he went to enter the elevator. Once inside, he looked to his left and nearly smiled at the sight of a floor plan on the wall. "Or... sublevel twenty. He pointed to its location on the map.

As the elevator doors opened, Tobias let the spheres fly from his hand passing completely through the heads of the men guarding the mainframe. He finally slid them back into his pocket as he walked right up to the bullet proof glass. He gave it a couple knocks with his knuckles. His gaze shifted over to the envelope, but it didn't budge. No metal. He looked back at Thaleia. "You're up again... But those won't work." He motioned to her guns.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Nathaniel said as Frankie made sure she didn't scuff him up in the process of getting him in the base. Before he could reply to her comment about having no further plans, shadows grew bigger as they headed their way down the hall. Nathaniel charged at them and took them out without a fuss, returning to her with them both unconscious. "My turn."

Frankie kept an eye on the hall in the other direction as he checked a near by room and chucked the guards inside. She followed Nathaniel in when he motioned for her to follow him. He pointed at the guards as he spoke. "Tie those three up and wipe a key card. We're going to work our way down to the envelope incapacitating each guard we come across."

She walked over to the unconscious men, easily moving them all into a slumped pile in the corner. With a couple shots from her web shooters, they were stuck against the wall. Frankie also made sure to cover their mouths so they didn't alert anyone else about them. She grabbed one of their key cards as she watched Nathaniel as he removed his mask to put in an ear piece. He then came over to her and held out another one for her. Frankie pulled off her mask, messing up her blonde hair in the process. She put the piece in her ear with a slight smile.

"Are you ready for this, Francita?"

Frankie couldn't help but laugh slightly. She nodded her head but quickly caught up behind him before he got far down the hall. "Wait, hold on." She moved around in front of him, tucking her mask under her left arm. Her right hand waved the key card. "I don't have pockets in this thing," she explained before holding the car between her teeth. Her hands unzipped the pouch on his belt, then slipped the card into it. "Thanks," she smiled up at him before putting her mask back on.

She followed behind Nathaniel quietly, shooting webs over every surveillance camera whenever they turned a corner. Frankie continually checked behind them, occasionally falling back to knock out a couple guards that were about to discover them. It seemed the lower they got, the more guards here were. When she saw oncoming shadows, she hopped up onto the ceiling crawling along it quickly and quietly, then jumped down behind the men, slamming their heads together. She snatched one of each of their feet and dragged them into a near by closet.

"How are you doing, Francita?"

"Somethings not right... there should be more of them," she commented in response to his question. Not much of answer considering it had nothing to do with how she was. But, it was a nagging sensation at the back of her mind that continued to grow.

Frankie turned around to look back at Nathaniel in time to see a handful of guards trying to get the jump on him. She quickly sprinted right at him. Just before she would have collided into him, she fell into a baseball, sliding underneath him. She knocked down the first guard then quickly did a kip-up so that she was standing. Her right foot slammed into the gut of another, sending him flying back into the wall. The last remaining guard grabbed her from behind, putting her in a choke hold. She struggled against his grasp, inching herself closer to the wall in front of her.

Once close enough that she could plant her foot on the wall, she ran her feet up the wall and flipped herself so that she was now behind him. Frankie then yanked off his helmet with her left hand and rammed his head into the wall, and tossed him to the ground. "If the guards are getting heavier the farther down we go... I'm betting this thing is on the bottom floor." She walked back over to Nathaniel. "I think we should just try to take the stairs all the way down, or it'll take us forever to reach it."

She started to walk down the hall towards the staircase and stopped midway. Frankie pivoted on her heels to face him. "Oh, I'm fine... Thanks for asking." She smiled as she finally addressed his question then continued towards the stairs.

***

"I had him," Petra commented in regards to him taking out the guards. He was sure she probably did, but she was more useful finding a way to get that envelope. Plus, Ross may be a thief and many other things, but he was still a gentleman. Which meant if he could, he'd fight so a woman wouldn't have to.

"I possess the power to sap your mind and replace it with my own, and I wield magics like Wren Wilson wields weapons, but sure, I will finger wiggle our way into this lock."

"Aye, that too." Ross chuckled as he watched her walk over to the lock. "But, finger wiggles is a lot more fun to say... Plus, I like da way yer nose scrunches up when yer frustrated." He smiled towards her.

Ross watched, leaning back against the wall as she did what she does best to break into the door. Could he have just gotten them inside with his mirror blaster? Well yeah. But this had to be a team effort. And... He always liked watched all that mystical mumbo jumbo go to town. He was a smart guy, contrary to popular belief. So, witnessing things that he couldn't do... No matter how many mirrors he made and subjects he studied, was interesting.

"There we go." Petra opened the door and went inside, grabbing the envelope. She then surrounded it with a force field. Smart. Ross never would have thought of that. He probably would have ruined it by shoving it in his pocket or something. Failure from ignorance.

"Shall we go?"

Ross smiled, pushing himself off the ground. "Like takin' candy from a babeh." He spun his mirror blaster around on his index finger like cowboys did with their guns. Then with a shot at the glass door, he took her hand and lead her back into the mirror world.

For some reason, it always seemed to be harder to find his way back. It seemed the more Ross went into the mirror world, that his memory of where he came from seemed to grow fuzzy. But he wouldn't let himself panic. He was going to find their way out because he wasn't going to doom someone else to a life trapped inside this place. It was a fate worse than death. Just before he was going to start worrying a bit, Ross saw a fracture in the mirrors that was all white. The white of a blizzard. Without hesitation, he shot it with his blaster and lead them both through it.

When they were back in the snow, Ross leaned down and picked back up his compact mirror, sliding it into his pocket. He then lead them both out of the simulation and into the hall. He had never been so happy to be back in the academy as he was at that minute. He felt like every part of him was going to shrivel up and break off... Especially the important bits.

As he tried to shake off the cold and warm up, Mycroft came over the P.A. "Congratulations Mr. McCulloch & Ms. Maximoff. If you could please go to the lounge at the end of the hall with your envelope. You will wait there until the remainder of your classmates finish the simulation."

"Oy, ya fackin' brit!" Ross cussed up at the ceiling. "I thought we were allowed ta go back to bed... Not wait on teh fackin' slow pokes." He sighed, looking over at Petra, nodding his head towards the lounge area. "After you."

"Wait...woah. Do you have some kind of death wish Sparky?"

His brows kneaded together. Did she not realize taking out the guards was not only mandatory, but the best way to stay alive? Doing nothing would be a death wish.

"Obviously not," he countered. "But if we don't defeat them now, then...what are you doing?"

She snatched Jack's hands away from the chair and pushed him backwards, angling his shoulders and hands as though he were a department store mannequin. What on earth was Wren Wilson up to now?

"Are you on crack or something?" he scoffed. Whatever she was doing, it was wasting time.

"I may have set the alarm off, but you failed to kill your half," she said.

"Yes, I know I'm a dummy. Is that your justification for moving me around like one?"

"Don't move!" she ordered, unsheathing her glinting katanas. Once she strided closer to the door, his puzzled brain finally pieced together the hazardous feat she was about to undertake.

"Okay, stop! You're insane!" he barked, breaking out of his position. Like he didn't already know Wren Wilson was the craziest beyotch in the academy. "You don't have to do this by yourself! Fifty fifty, remember? It's too dangerous to-"

The warning glance she shot was enough to shut him up. "If you move, you'll probably die," Wren stated. "So, just trust my mad genius once... Ok?"

He didn't like what she was doing. How could she force him to stand still when she didn't know for sure the swarm of enemies would overwhelm him? This scheme was worse than entering a boxing match with one broken arm. It was entirely impractical and made him feel like an ass. What if her nutty plan went wrong somewhere? He couldn't stand there and watch her perish. Or worse...

But it was something about her tone, her choice of words, that reassured him she knew what she was doing. And although she was unpredictable, Wren always had a grounded motive. She was reckless, but she wasn't stupid.

Jack sighed, returning back to the position his partner had placed him in. "Okay. But for the love of god...Please," he gritted, "Don't. Mess. This. Up."

And with that, she punted the metal chair into oblivion and speared her swords through two soldiers' faces like they were fish. Then a hailstorm of bullets cracked, and while Wren used her body as a human-ammo-shield, Jack employed his trusty senses to dodge stray shots. After headbutting another poor devil, she pivoted in place, holding up her index finger towards him. It was sharp, but not as sharp as the bullet holes which pierced her suit. The more he stared at them, the more he regretted agreeing to her plan.

"Wait, WREN -" he instinctively took a step forward.

"Be right back. Don't move." The door slammed.

Realizing there was nothing he could do to stop her, Jack released a worried groan and once again, returned to his former position.
While listening to the muffled sounds beyond the door, he tracked her position using radar sense. "Punch. Dodge. Slice." he muttered along with her movements, as if she could actually hear his directions. It was like silently coaching a newbie in the ring. When she stayed still instead of ducking, he heard a loud thud. "Ouch! That is no way to treat a lady!"

Frantically, he avoided some ricochet bullets that escaped through the door's fissures. Then it completely swung open, as in being knocked off its own hinges open. A decapitated body fell on top of it. Seeing Wren, he quickly rose his hands in the position she had placed them in before. "Heads up!" she cried, pun intended.

By god, he did not think she would mean that literally.

I am living in a freaking Tarantino movie he repeated to himself while realizing the head's features were Lanky Icicle Man's. If only he had stayed by that tank, he wouldn't have felt the steel wrath of Wren's blade. "Well don't just stand there! Open it!" she cried, continuing to swipe her katana back and forth like a painter who only used red. All she needed was a yellow track suit, and she was Beatrix Kiddo.

After pressing the head to the glass, the retinal scanner tolled a loud ding and the three-foot thick door slowly shifted open, allowing Jack to snatch the envelope from the mainframe. "Put it in your suit, quickly." Wren instructed. Hoping the manila wouldn't so much as crinkle underneath his padding, Jack unzipped the front of his costume and tucked the prized item into his chest, smoothing the paper out for good measure. He could hear the far-off rumpus of more footfall only a few stories above them. The group of soldiers, yet again, were heading down in their direction. And there were more of them.

"Get ready," Wren said, digging her hands into her utility belt. He turned to face her, noticing an alarming amount of crimson dripping from her suit. Of course, he couldn't exactly see such crimson, since his eyes didn't process the color, but the smell of blood was dreadfully pungent. Turns out that red she had painted with was her own - simulated soldiers had no need for bleeding.

"Let me handle this wave," he pleaded, putting a hand on her soldier. "You've done enough. You need to save your strength!"

But Wren had another cheeky trick up her sleeve, or rather, in her belt. She pulled out a grenade. An actual grenade. For some reason, he wasn't surprised.

The rest of the fight happened so fast, it dulled the intensity of his senses. As the soldiers flooded in, she tossed the unpinned grenade and slammed the door behind them. Then she held him against the wall with her arms as glass and bodies and rubble flew. He ground his teeth together, trying to remain in place against the booming explosion. Thanks to Wren's protection, no shrapnel pierced his suit.

Again, his ears rang. There was a certain morbid silence about the room, as well as a miasma of charred flesh and sawdust. But despite all of the grotesque sights and sounds and smells, Jack couldn't help but let out a cry of joy.

"WOO! That was amazing. Blood-pumping. I haven't felt that level of anxiety since-"

It was then he noticed the shards of glass embedded into Wren, some of them the size of knives.

"Shit...Goddamit. Okay," he exhaled, hoping she wouldn't faint on him. "I'm really sorry if this hurts..."

He quickly dislodged the large pieces from her side, back, and calf. There was nothing he could do about the smaller shards. But they were part of the simulation, so maybe if they hurried, the glass fragments would disappear. "Alright. Now it's my turn to help you." he said while placing her arm over his shoulders, guiding the limping girl through the maze of dead and groaning soldiers. Through the doorway, a strange-looking plastic card lay face-down on the ground. He leaned over for a moment, picking up the blue curiosity and seeing the word schlüsselkarte printed on its bottom. It took a good minute for him to realize it fit neatly through a slot next to a conveniently-placed elevator. Wait, there was a freaking elevator this whole time? Jesus, if only he had known that before...

Once the doors opened, he punched the ground floor button and made sure Wren was safely inside. "Geez," he mused to himself while the metal contraption rose. "I don't think I've had to complete a test this trippy since...well, since Xavier's." He thought of Phoebe, as well as the rest of his classmates. Were they done with their simulations already? Hopefully so. He needed someone who could remove the tiny pieces of glass from Wren's suit if they remained past the opening to the simulation. Stark went for realism in all his tests, and only the mentors knew how real he made them.

The elevator stopped, and the door opened to the same hallway Jack had fought through mere minutes ago. The soldiers on the floor were all unconscious or barely awake, save for one. "Sie verrotten Kinder! Du wirst für dieses Chaos bezahlen!" shouted a broken-legged guard, trying to crawl forward. "'Scuse us, jackass." Jack replied, propelling the heel of his boot into the man's forehead. He finally slept with the rest of his friends. The two students exited into the frosty air, heading in the direction of the forest. No need to head through the front door, what with all the triplines and heavy artillery and other shit Stark had placed there.

The artificial sun began to rise as they slogged through the snow. Birds were chirping, the wind was softly humming - everything was right in the world. Jack kept checking Wren every so often, making sure she had enough strength to move forward. He had carried her into this simulation, and now, in a sense, he was carrying her out. "Hey," he muttered. The usual snarky undertones of his voice had dropped. "I know I make it clear that you get on my nerves sometimes and I'm not particularly sweet as pie in your presence, but...thank you. For what you did back there. Not only do I appreciate it, but that was...amazing. Seriously. Like, Mycroft even suggested not blowing up the facility in any way and you used a grenade, and the envelope's still fine! It was just...."

He chuckled, but then stopped, clearing his throat instead. Too much...

"I'm sorry. I don't even know what I'm saying anymore. I'm just...blabbering like an idiot..."

Jack didn't even pay attention to Mycroft's announcement as he passed through the doorframe out of the simulation. His only concern was to make sure Wren was okay. "BEEP BEEEEEP, OUT OF THE WAY, EARLY BIRDS!" he yelled to Caitria, Petra, Ross, and Ja'zmyn, who were all resting at the end of the hallway in the lounge area. "Injured trooper girl coming through..."

He rushed Wren to one of the available chairs, crouching down beside her once she popped a squat. Jack removed his horned helmet, as well as the envelope from inside his zipped suit. "You okay?" he asked his partner, turning to his buddy Ross once she made her status known. "Yo, Mirror Master! Come over here!" he motioned him. "You know glass better than anyone...you see any pieces stuck inside Wrenpool, here?" It was then he remembered cold-as-ice Petra Maximoff had the power of telekinesis. If tiny shards were still stuck in Wren, perhaps she would be willing to remove them...

Eventually, T'Chioke made it to the watchtower. His absence had given her enough time to pry open all the secrets hidden inside the Hydra base. Thanks to the maps, diagrams, and lists hidden inside the manila envelope, she now had an extensive knowledge of everything they faced. She flashed her partner a gentle smile, snorting as he nodded his head in approval towards the unconscious soldier. "He should be out for a while," she assured the prince. "He told me the mainframe in the basement is kept behind a thick, as well as bulletproof, glass door. There's also a retinal scanner. This little thing right here..." She retrieved a blue diagram of the door from her manila folder, circling her finger around a microscopic system inside the glass. "I know the claws in your suit are crafted from vibranium. They should be able to tear through the glass, but if not, we'd need to knock out a guard and use their eye to disable the lock. Actually, it might be a cleaner, less noisy method. Up to you what you'd want to do."

Nearing the table, T'Chioke told Phoebe about the elevator system and how they could either ride the elevator, disabling the camera inside, or travel down its shaft. Both options came with pros and cons. She nodded, creasing her lips into a straight line. Then the daughter of Wonder Woman grabbed a map of the ground floor and slid it to the tabletop's center.

"Climbing down the shaft would be a good idea. However, if the elevator moves up below us, we'll be forced off track. If it moves down above us, we'll be crushed. Believe it or not, there is an easier way. Ah good, you've got two." She pointed to the key cards T'Chioke still had in his possession. "Those key cards do a lot more than just work the elevators. They can actually turn off alarms and camera systems in one of these control rooms..." She pointed to a small space across from the ground floor elevator. "We know the base has fourty floors: twenty above, including the ground floor, and twenty below. There are four control rooms in the Hydra base, one for every ten floors. One guard works in each control room, and they monitor their own ten floors. We don't have to worry about the control rooms on the rooftop or the eleventh floor, since we aren't traveling that high. We just need to hijack the control rooms on the ground floor, as well as the control room on sub-level eleven."

She shifted through her folder again, pulling out another blue diagram. It was a map of each floor's maze-like ventilation system. "Here's what we're going to do. We'll approach the entrance you found, then I'll climb through the vent until I'm above the ground floor control room. I'll get the drop on the guard in the room and turn off the camera systems and alarms using the key card. In the meantime, you secure the control room from the outside. That way, no soldiers go in or out. Use your invisibility so no one sees you." She started shoving each map and list back into the folder, save for the diagram of the ventilation system. "Then we'll ride the elevator to sub-level ten, take the stairs down one flight to sub-level eleven, and do the same thing over again. We'll go to the basement, get the envelope by whatever means possible, and then ride all the way up to the ground floor. We leave the base, walk through the forest, and voila: simulation complete." She closed the folder with a hard thud, looking at him with a know-it-all grin. "The only problem we may face are guards stopping the elevator to get to other floors, but we'll deal with that when or if it even happens. We'll probably have to knock them unconscious and hide their limp bodies somewhere so we don't raise suspicion. Other than that little hitch, we should be fine."

She cracked her knuckles while gazing down at the ventilation system diagram, trying to cram its shape inside her memory so she wouldn't drop into an incorrect room. "Ready when you are. Although I really hope I don't forget this-"

Then she remembered.

"Oh my god, I almost forgot!" she sputtered while retrieving Jack's cellphone from her pocket. Fortunately, she knew his four-digit password and took a picture of the map using the phone's camera. Then she turned the screen towards her face and motioned for T'Chioke to come closer. She gave a goofy, unamused expression and tapped the screen with her thumb. Then Phoebe put the phone down on the table, looking at the facetious selfie with glee. In an instant, it became Jack's new background.

"Sorry, it's, uh...it's an inside joke," she explained to T'Chioke, who was probably very confused. "Nasty habit of Jack Murdock: he takes embarrassing photos of people when they're not looking. Keep an eye out for him. He's worse than the paparazzi. Something you're familiar with, I'm sure?" Phoebe chuckled, placing the phone back in her pocket and getting her shield, sword, and lasso ready. "Okay. Lead the way, Prince of Wakanda."

She let him guide her across the base, and thanks to his efforts near the pillar, they didn't encounter any conscious guards. Her finger pointed up once they reached the first vent. "There it is. Hand me one of the key cards, then boost me up." Once he did as she instructed, Phoebe quickly crawled through the vent, pulling out Jack's phone and using her photo as a guide so as to not lose the way. Finally, she reached the control room, removed the metal sheet over the vent's opening (super strength came in handy during tight moments like this), then pounced on the single guard in a silent takedown. If everything was going according to plan, T'Chioke was outside, watching the door. She swiped the keycard through two slots, shutting down the camera and alarm systems from floors one through sub-level ten. If intruders spotted them, they wouldn't be able to alert the rest of Super-Scary-Simulated-Hydra-Base of the partners' presence.

Then, looking at the unconscious man on the ground, Phoebe concocted a glorious idea. She locked the door from the inside. "One minute. Just give me a sec." she lowly called to T'Chioke, crossing over to the grounded man. Her hands quickly unbuttoned his shirt and pants. She took the articles of clothing and draped them over her own body, tucking her dark hair into the soldier's cap. Now, her and T'Chioke both had invisibility: he had his suit, and she was disguised as a Hydra soldier.

Phoebe stepped out of the control room, modeling her new uniform for T'Chioke. "It's uncomfortable as hell, but it'll make life easier. I won't have to crawl through anymore vents while disguised like this. Just keep watch while I walk through the front door of the next control room." She called the elevator and stepped through once it opened, punching the button for sub-level eleven. "I know we said sub-level ten before, but since I'm dressed like this, just turn invisible once we reach the floor. That way the cameras won't see you."

Taking out the next control room was just as easy. Again, Phoebe shut off the alarms, cameras, and even found a slot to disarm the sirens inside the mainframe. Then she sauntered back to the elevator, punching the basement's button. As she waited next to T'Chioke, she pressed her new shirt to her nostrils, grimacing from the horrid smell.

"Blech. That guy really needs to learn how to do his laundry..."

Then the elevator began to slow near sub-level fifteen. Phoebe gasped, hiding her sword and lasso behind her back. "Okay, T'Chioke," she rushed, "Just turn invisible and stay silent. Don't do anything unless they grow hostile. I've got this." Finally, the elevator stopped, and two laughing Hydra guards stepped on. They pressed the button for sub-level eighteen. There was nothing Phoebe despised more than lazy people who couldn't walk down three flights of stairs.

One guard eyed her up and down, paying close attention to the shield she tried to conceal. She knew Themysciran, Ancient and Modern Greek, Spanish and French, but Phoebe couldn't speak a lick of German. The man nodded. "Hallo, err...Wilhelm."

Wilhelm? Oh right. Wilhelm Wicki: the name embroidered onto the front pocket of her shirt.

She nodded in recognition of his presence. There was a wave of embarrassing silence until the soldier asked, "Ist das ein alter griechischer Schild, den du dort hast?"

His eyes trained to her shield. Racking her brain for what to do next, she blurted out the first German word she knew.

"JA."

He nodded. Kind of awkwardly, but not in a way that rose suspicion. He waved her goodbye once him and his partner reached sub -level eighteen. The elevator continued to lower once they left. God, that was close.

Finally, Phoebe and T'Chioke made it to the basement and entered the room where the monolithic mainframe stood. "Alright. See if you can pierce through the glass with your claws. If not, we can go find a soldier to knock out or something. Or we can skip the claws and go straight to the soldier. Up to you." Phoebe idly leaned against the door into the small space, crossing her arms and taking a deep breath. She didn't realize how tired she was. Maybe it was just from the jump of adrenaline that now returned to a normal pace. The stealth route, although safer, took a mental toll.

"Hey, this may be overstepping the boundaries of our acquaintanceship," she murmured, filling the silence, "but I've always been curious...what's it like to rule a nation?"

As soon as Caitria stepped out of the simulation, the Hydra base, landscape, everything, transformed into a fifty foot by fifty foot room. The simulation door closed as Caitria continued forward.

Caitria noticed Mycroft and Phil seated before dozens of moniters. The former leaned in his seat as he checked something off the list in front of him. Mycroft pressed the intercom button as Caitria picked up his voice.

"Congratulations Ms. Allen," he said in a professional tone. "You are the first to finish your simulation." Caitria refrained from grinning. She knew that she was probably going to be the first to finish, but that didn't make her any less proud. "We ask that you take a seat in the lobby at the far end of the hall as we wait for your other classmates finish."

Before Caitria could speed on over to the lobby, Phil leaned forward, commenting, "although you passed the simulation Ms. Allen, we ask that next time you are posed with a circumstance like this that you consider team work." Caitria furrowed a brow at that, pausing to listen to the rest of what Phil was going to tell her. "Those that fight alone die alone...everyone needs alliances because you won't always be faced with a situation where your particular skill set is the best option. Everyone at this academy has a specific set of skills that are different anyone else. You shouldn't be so quick to discredit that."

"I'm aware," Caitria said lightly, trying not to sound rude or standoffish. "When it's needed, I always consider teamwork, since unfortunately, superhuman speed can't always be the answer." Caitria shrugged. "But it just so happened that this simulation, considering my particular skill set, wouldn't require teamwork. Therefore, I chose to go solo. Besides, it isn't like anybody asked me to partner up with them."

Mycroft cleared his throat as Caitria finished speaking. "Do not open that envelope," he warned. "We'll still fail you if you open it, or if you leave before everyone has rejoined us."

Caitria couldn't help but think that it was possible for her to sneak away without anybody noticing, but Mycroft was probably reading her thoughts at that very moment. Caitria saluted, before speeding over to the lobby, making sure to take the best seat.

A couple minutes after Caitria sat down, she noticed Petra, Ross, and a bit later, Ja’zmyn pop out of their simulations and enter the lobby. The brunette nodded to her, sitting down on one of the seats. Caitria gave her a friendly smile in return.

Caitria raised an eyebrow in surprise as Jack Murdock ran out of his simulation while carrying Wren Wilson. "BEEP BEEEEEP, OUT OF THE WAY, EARLY BIRDS!" he shouted to Caitria and everybody else who had already finished the simulation. "Injured trooper girl coming through..."

Jack set Wren down in the chair next to Caitria, who scanned the redhead, half of her concern not evident on her face. "You okay?" he asked Wren, before turning to Ross. "Yo, Mirror Master! Come over here! You know glass better than anyone...you see any pieces stuck inside Wrenpool, here?"

Caitria decided to give the poor guy some advice. "Petra's telekinetic," she mentioned, motioning towards the other redhead in the room. She turned to Petra before speaking. "You could remove any glass shards in her body, if you don't have a problem with that."

Lilith nodded in response to Andrew's ramble. “Sounds fine, as long as you got my back?” Of course, the question was obviously rhetorical, since both of them knew that Andrew always had any ally's back, but Andrew grinned and responded anyway.

"That's a given," he commented reassuringly.

Lilith used a vine to shoot up to the second floor. She shattered a window in the process. Oh well, Andrew thought. There goes the stealth plan. He camouflaged, plastering himself to the side of the building as he trailed after her.

As Andrew hopped into the building through the shattered window, Lilith released a fume of toxins as she bombed the entire floor. “You're on envelope duty!” Lilith singed to her partner, before adding in a more serious tone, “try to hurry.”

Andrew nodded brusquely. He ran to the nearest elevator he could see, still in camouflage mode, shooting any enemy in sight as he turned his right arm into a machine gun. Snatching a guard's key card - in case the elevator required some kind of scan, Hydra wasn't stupid - he scanned the key card in front of the elevator. Fortunately, it was close to Andrew's current floor. The brown-eyed man caught a glimpse of the Hydra guards and soldiers figuring out how to deal with Lilith as he entered the elevator. Truth be told, he was a little worried.

Andrew scanned the map in the elevator quickly - he pressed the sublevel twenty button as fast as he could. Luckily, the simulation had really fast elevators - Hydra probably updated them in real life, concerned about their efficiency.

As soon as the elevator door opened, Andrew shot anybody he could see, using his special mini-bomb bullets (he had absolutely no idea what they were called) that could take out a few guards at a time. After he used a generous amount of those, he switched to regular bullets, approaching the thick glass door as the Hydra guards died around him.

Andrew scanned the key card, hoping that it would work - he didn't have time to see if he could smash the door down with his super strength (it probably wouldn't work anyway, considering that this was Hydra headquarters). Luckily, the guard who previously owned the key card that was currently in Andrew's possession had high enough access, and the door opened. Andrew dashed in, grabbing the envelope, and head back the way he came.

I'm going to run out of bullets if I keep this up, he thought. Andrew wasn't exactly an epic killing machine in his normal form - he preferred to stay in that one, thank you very much.

Andrew gasped, out of breath as he entered the second floor once again, narrowing avoiding a guard who happened to be charging at him. "Oh shit," he muttered, fumbling to stab the guy in the gut. He really needed better stamina. And he had to start remembering how important his camouflage was.

His eyes widened as a red dot aligned with Lilith's chest, the blonde raising her hands in surrender. Andrew, as quietly as he could (which wasn't that quiet), ran over to Lilith, shoving her out of the way as he shot a Hydra soldier in the chest. The red dot disappeared as a man collapsed on the ground. Andrew turned to Lilith.

"I have the envelope," he said, still slightly out of breath, "but since we sounded the alarm, we have to kill everybody in this building before we leave."

Thaleia noticed Tobias clench his jaw at the nickname and felt slightly guilty. She refrained from slapping herself in the face at that thought. Sure, she wasn't going to lie - she could be a bitch sometimes. Her cold demeanor and blunt nature was not taken well by anybody. But contrary to popular belief, while Thaleia thought of herself as heartless in a sense, she didn't actually try to bully anyone, especially when it came to family.

Thaleia sighed before grasping Tobias' shoulder. "Sorry," she grit out. It's been a long time since she said those words with even the slightest hint of sincerity. "You may think otherwise, but that wasn't an insult at all." Technically, that was true. Thaleia and her passed father, compared to everybody else, had fucked up morals. When Thaleia called Tobias "Maggy Jr.", she wasn't talking about his allegiance. She was talking about his skill set and power.

That was all.

Tobias moved past her, saying nothing, as he hurried down the stairs. Thaleia followed suit. Two guards stood at the end of the hall, their backs towards the two descendants. Tobias lifted his right hand towards the two guards. Nothing happened, until the two men suddenly started struggling and collapsed to the ground. Tobias glanced back at Thaleia. "They work," he said, referring to his powers.

After that, the two just killed everyone, with Tobias in the lead. Hey, laugh at Thaleia all you want, but at the end of the day, she was merely human. Not a metahuman like Caitria Allen was, but just simple, unaltered human. Of course, Tobias had to refrain from killing everybody on the spot and let Thaleia murder a few guards too.

Tobias probably wasn't happy with her slowing him down, but technically, he did accept her offer to be partners. If he wanted, he could've rejected Thaleia for all she cared.

(But no, he was probably just too nice.)

The two reached a desk that sat across from the elevators as Tobias held his left hand out towards the lift, bringing it up to their current level. The pair started sifting through the paperwork on the desk, attempting to find the location of the mainframe. Thaleia scowled slightly. Nothing. "Guess we'll have to go one floor at a time," Tobias commented bitterly, clearly annoyed as he and Thaleia entered the elevator. Thaleia opened her mouth to comment on the floor plan on the wall, but Tobias beat her to it. "Or...sublevel twenty." Thaleia pressed the respective button as Tobias spoke.

Tobias did his thing as the elevator door opened. He slid his metal spheres into his pocket as the guards dropped to the ground, dead. The two approached the glass door. Tobias knocked on the bulletproof glass a couple times as his eyes shifted over to the manila envelope. Thaleia couldn't help but feel a little bit smug when Tobias was unable to manipulate it due to the lack of metal. He turned to her. "You're up again," he said, gesturing to her guns, "but those won't work."

Thaleia hefted her guns into the straps on her back. "No need to worry," she told Tobias as she approached a guard's body. "I'm actually not stupid." She grabbed the guard roughly, snatching his key card in the process. Thaleia dropped his body back to the ground, heading towards the door. The key card worked and the glass door opened.

Thaleia entered the room, grabbing the manila envelope before turning around and heading back towards Tobias. She waved the envelope in the air. "Bingo," she said. "Now let's get out of here before we end up finishing last."

When Jaxon said that the situation was not looking too well for him above, Xavier acknowledged and was about to teleport straight to where his companion is and bring both of them out of the simulation room unscathed as soon as possible, since morning is approaching quite fast and he would rather not missing his precious breakfast and morning news, especially since he had just been to an event last night. It may sound a bit pompous but Xavier still takes career as an actor seriously, and who wouldn't be delighted when they are praised for something they did well? But for short, just like any of his fellow descendants, he too wanted to get out of this as soon as possible.

However, merely moments later, Jaxon suddenly come up with a plan to obliterate everything around him with his nova blast. Wait, Jaxon, we just need to get out of here so there's no need to waste your energy. Xavier reaffirmed, but apparently the younger descendant didn't hear it. He sighed. His partner has been helpful up til now, but the boy needs to pay attention to what others said, otherwise he'll end up doing unnecessary things. Asides from that, they have been working well enough so Xavier is hoping that the mentors will overlook the minor flaws.

Transporting himself to the entrance of the facility, Xavier had just made it right just before the energy within the field is concentrated all in one position. Knowing all too well what is about to happen, he erected a barrier surrounding himself. Jaxon contacted him one last time to warn him to prepare for the outburst. Way ahead of you, my friend. He replied, and a second later, the fiery figure standing not too far away from him literally explode. Everything flashed up violently and Xavier had to cover his eyes as not to blind himself. But the explosion took less than a minute, and when it cleared up, all simulated guards, the Hydra base and the surrounding forest were vaporized. "Quite impressive." Xavier remarked. Jaxon must have used up quite a bit of his energy already, yet the overall damage that the explosion had just caused can match up to that of a nuclear bomb.

When the smoke cleared up for a bit, Xavier casually walked up to Jaxon, who is now lying flatly on the ground, completely drained of all ounces of energy. "I must say, it was quite a bespectacled scene to behold." He said with his usual calm smile, while lowering himself and hovered his hand over Jaxon's chest, transferring a good amount of his own vitality to the younger hero, "But next time, do think more than just one time before you exact something." Xavier straightened himself up and extended his arm, helping Jaxon to stand up.

"Let's go back. I have a feeling we didn't manage to be the first birds, but I think our performance is good enough." He moved his hand in a circular motion as a portal open, revealing the sub-level 23 of the Academy on the other side, just besides where the mentors are standing. Xavier took out the envelope from within his coat and showed them that their mission is accomplished, but apparently they are not ranked and allowed to get back to their chambers until the rest of the descendants return. But it wouldn't hurt waiting a bit more for everyone, so Xavier just made his way to the lounge.

As expected, quite a few others have made it back before them, which includes Caitria, Petra, Ross, Ja’zmyn, Jack and Wren in a little bit of a bad shape. With her speed, there's no doubt that Caitria would be the first to finish. But Wren being injured? That's certainly a sight you don't get to see everyday.

Xavier was about to offer to take care of Wren's wounds, but Caitria just suggested that Petra should do it since she was also a telekinetic user, so he decided to just let the younger descendant to do her job. Instead, he walked to the coffee machine and poured two coffee cups, for himself and for Jaxon. After all, they do need a bit of a refreshment after the exercise earlier. "Here." Xavier offered a cup for the flame boy and took the seat next to him, "We need quite a good job, aren't we? Next time we team up though I could use a bit more of your patience." He commented as he took a sip from his coffee.

ImageThe trip back through the mirror realm was quick, Petra almost floating along in the wake of their easy success. Ross's compliment stayed with her, lending her expression a little more smile than she'd normally have - I like da way yer nose scrunches up when yer frustrated. She didn't know anyone noticed things like that about her, the small quirks and gestures that made her Petra, instead of the icy Scarlet Witch she put forward.

Caitria was already waiting, back in the academy, when they stepped out of the simulation. Petra released her grip on Ross's hand, sliding her fingers delicately out of his grip.

"Congratulations Mr. McCulloch & Ms. Maximoff. If you could please go to the lounge at the end of the hall with your envelope. You will wait there until the remainder of your classmates finish the simulation."

Ross's reaction said it all. Not that she'd express it in so many words, but they were promised they'd be allowed back to bed if they completed the simulation. No protest passed her lips, but her spine was a little stiffer and her steps more pronounced as she headed towards the lounge area. "Hello," she greeted Caitria as she passed, her voice low. It was a little hard not to let her annoyance show, especially since Caitria didn't deserve to be on the receiving end, but the irritation needed to go somewhere.

A few minutes more, and Ja'zmyn came through her door. Now there were four students back - four out of the original twenty-two. They might have to wait a little loner.

At this thought, Wren and Jack burst back into the room. A little entertainment might be nice, Petra mused, as Jack screamed at them to get out of the way - a little redundant, since there was no one in his way. Taking in both of the students clad in red, Petra noted that they seemed to be a little worse for wear; of course they'd met expectations and gone in with guns blazing, no doubt.

"Petra's telekinetic - you could remove any glass shards in her body, if you don't have a problem with that." The redhead's attention snapped to Caitria, taking in her beckoning hand and Jack bent over Wren's wounds, fussing. Oh.

"I have no issue, if Wren doesn't." She might not like the other girl, but Petra wouldn't refuse her help. At least, since Wren hadn't quite given her reason to yet. Rising in one fluid motion, Petra approached Wren, kneeling so she was level with Wren's wounds. "This will sting," she warned. Disallowing Xavier's sudden appearance from making her concentration waver, she focused on the flesh wounds, telepathically pulling the glass shards out of Wren quickly and cleanly. The bits that were further in her flesh proved to be a little more difficult, but Petra made sure they slid back out the way they came as quickly as possible, without causing any further tearing.

"I'd say take the time to catch your breath and regenerate, but you'll be up on your feet in no time," she commented, pushing herself to her feet and looking down at Wren. She smiled perfunctorily at the patient, with no sign of mockery - or much friendliness, for that matter - and took a step back, her job done.

ImageOne moment, Riley was standing ankle-deep in snow, the next, he was in a hallway stretching away to his right, dry and (if he was right) heated. He shook himself, trying to reorient himself - he was never ever going to get used to Conrad's zapping around. Perks of being a perfectly ordinary human.

"I'll take the first door and you get the second?"

"Yeah, sure," Riley agreed. He leaned against the door and tried the knob - locked, but there didn't appear to be anyone inside. Casting a quick glance around for security cameras and finding none, Riley backed up as far as the hallway would allow him, and placed a well-aimed kick at the door. It swung inwards, and he leaped forward, grabbing the edge of the door to prevent it from smacking against the wall on the inside and creating unnecessary noise. As it was, busting the door down was probably already enough to warrant a little unwanted attention.

"Jackpot." The room appeared to be a security office of some sort, with screens displaying feed from what was presumably cameras all over the facility. Scanning through the screens, Riley found one showing a glass enclosure - with an envelope inside.

"I haven't found anything. You?" Conrad's voice came from behind Riley, and the archer pointed, smiling.

"Right here, baby. Look - the envelope, this is the corridor outside the room, all we gotta do is take down like, three guards. Maybe more, but that's about as many as I can see from here. Could you get us there?" He wasn't exactly sure how far Conrad could teleport, especially with minimal knowledge about their destination, but he trusted in his friend's abilities. Either that, or they'd work their way down the floors and hope they didn't encounter too many enemies. With Conrad around, he could afford to be a little more optimistic.

Bow taut and at the ready, he smiled at Conrad. "Ready to go, partner?"
