Mac is an active young witch, and she dresses accordingly. Outside of the required school uniform, Mac is the kind of girl who prefers a good pair of jeans and sneakers, and has always had a penchant for leather. When out at a party, Mac is more willing to indulge her girlier and more creative flair, though her outfits are unlikely to measure up to the expensive designer ware of some of her more affluent pure blood classmates. Macβs golden curls more often than not, will be up in an artful bun or ponytail, especially when sheβs busy.

On the surface, McKenna is a very bright, confident, and outgoing individual who generally is well liked and gets on well with other students. She can be a bit of a clown at times, and if there is mischief afoot, one can bet sheβs in the middle of it. Mac isnβt quite what one would describe as a slacker, as she maintains a respectable B average in almost all her classes, but she definitely is not living up to her potential. Macβs seeming utter lack of academic ambition has frustrated her professors more than once, though thatβs not to say sheβs lazy. When it comes to Quidditch or any other topic that has currently caught her interest, she can be almost obsessive in her research, especially if it involves exploring hidden passages or magical creatures.
Mac also has some serious abandonment issues, and that, coupled with her muggle born status, has left her with a deep seeded need to prove herself as a witch among her peers. While she might not care about grades or rankings, Mac does very much care about being good at what she does and can be extremely competitive at times. This is especially apparent when watching her duel or play Quidditch, as she is a fierce competitor, and well known for her wild and arguably flamboyant style. Thereβs nothing quite like the feeling of flying on a broom, but couple that with the screaming cheers of the crowd after pulling off a flashy trick shot, and itβs a high that Mac canβt get enough of. Mac isnβt particularly cocky (except when talking smack with other Quidditch teams of course), but being in the air is where she feels the most at home and sure footed, as ironic as that might seem.
Among her friends, Mac is a fiercely loyal companion, and giving in nature. At times, this stems from a subconscious fear of abandonment, and Mac can be a bit sensitive to being stood up and even irrationally jealous at times. Macβs need for approval isnβt universal though. She doesnβt care what some pureblood supremacist thinks about her, past the desire to whoop them in a dueling match. Amongst her friends however, sheβs willing to do some pretty reckless and sometimes outright dangerous things to get a laugh or make them happy. She also does not deal with conflict between her friends well, and Mac can suffer from some serious anxiety issues when fighting with her. The last time Mac had a spat with a friend, she didnβt eat for three days, which was a pleasant experience for no one. When she is upset, Mac is more prone to bottling her negative emotions than sharing, and oftentimes will cover up bruised feelings with bravado and forced confidence. Mac generally isn't easy to anger, but she is extremely protective of her friends, and can be riled when they are being messed with.
Mac isnβt really the type of person who seeks out to be anyoneβs hero. There are plenty of other people in her house who seem eager to fill that role, and sheβs usually content to let them have the limelight and play second fiddle in those kinds of situations. If no better prospects are available however, Mac also isnβt the type to sit idly by if someone needs help or is getting pushed around. Having been bullied herself on more than one occasion, that in particular tends to light her fuse. Among her friends and well liked acquaintances, Mac will seek to entertain and have a good laugh. As an avid explorer, Mac is also likely to pull one of her friends along on one of her expeditions, as she has never really been one for solitude and is an inherently social person by nature. When it comes to teachers, Mac can be a bit of a mixed bag. She can be a smart ass at times, and if something has exploded in class, more than a few pairs of suspicious eyes are likely to turn her way, but Mac is also usually willing to engage. As she's never been shy in the classroom about talking, if a lecture is going poorly, Mac's a good go- to for participation.

McKenna was born the first child of Patrick and Renee James in the small, historic village of Hawkshead, England. As a youngster growing up in this picture of normalcy, it became clear to her parents that odd things had a tendency to happen around their child. It started out as small things, easily explained away by coincidence or the wind. As Mac got older though, the oddities became harder to deny, culminating into a full blown exposure incident at an amusement park when she was nine years old. Having gotten separated from her parents, young and frightened Mac unwittingly made them easier to find, their skin turning purple as they levitated in the air. It took the Department of Muggle Exposures nearly a week to clean up that particular mess, but the James family finally had answers regarding years of unexplained incidents.
Patrick did not take this news well. Frightened and repulsed by the knowledge heβd fathered a witch, he first tried to get Mac to suppress her magical nature, to βjust be normal!β When that proved fruitless, he left, unable to deal with the living embodiment of his world view being shattered. Since then, Patrick has remarried and had twin girls, both of whom appear to be perfectly normal. Mac has never met them, but she sends cards by owl on their birthday each year. Mac has some serious insecurities and abandonment issues stemming from her father, whom she hasn't had contact with for the better part of six years, but she tries not to take it out on her half siblings.
Compared to her father, Renee took the news much better, and while she may not really understand anything to do with the wizarding world, she tries to be supportive for McKennaβs sake. Mac loves her mother, but she has a lot of pent up feelings of guilt despite Renee never openly voicing any such blame. After the split, Macβs mother was devastated, and dating normal muggle men with no knowledge of the wizarding world is inherently difficult for the single mother. At times, itβs difficult for Mac to feel like she didnβt inadvertently ruin her motherβs life, and that guilt coupled with the almost inescapable feeling of living in completely different worlds has created an uncomfortable distance between the two. Currently Renee is seeing a muggle man named Gerry. He's a dentist with two sons around her age, and Mac's doing her best to stay out of the way.
Leaving for Hogwarts the first time in the wake of her wrecked home life had been liberating. Hogwarts was a place of infinite possibilities, full of interesting people who not only shared her magical talents, but where they were in fact normal. It was the first time in years Mac felt like there wasn't something wrong with her, that she didn't have to hide, or pretend to be lesser. Hogwarts became home, the place where she met her dearest friends, fell in love with the sky, and came into herself and confidence. Most holiday breaks, Mac elects to stay at Hogwarts (a decision met with only the meekest of obligatory resistance by her mother) and only leaves when unavoidable for the summer holiday.

This little guy has a bad habit of snagging things that donβt belong to him, particularly if they're shiny or makes noise, so watch your valuables around this one. More than once, Mac has had to make a few awkward acquaintances while returning her owlβs ill-gotten plunder.

β€Flying: Mac took to flying a broom like a duck to water, and has always had a natural talent for it. When playing quidditch, she has a very flamboyant style, and is known to be a bit of a show off as one of the Gryffindor team chasers. You'll be hard pressed to find someone quicker or more maneuverable on a broom though, and Mac has earned a reputation as one of the fiercest competitors at Hogwarts.
β€ People Person: Mac is good with people. She can make them laugh, pump up a crowd, and take the heat off you in class if necessary. When it comes to talking in front of people or socializing, Mac is very comfortable
β€ Animagus: Mac has always been fairly gifted in the subject of transfiguration, so pursuing this specialized skill set seemed like a natural fit for the young witch. Her animagus form is that a a white mink, which has proved very helpful for exploring caverns and hidden places her human shape can't fit.
