While some girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice, Mackenzie has been purely spice. She's never been one to outwardly kind to anyone she isn't friends with. Her rough and disrespectful natures make it difficult for her to befriend people. She's the type of person that has to grow on you. She always has witty comebacks when someone tries to be rude to her and won't hesitate to attack if provoked.
Academics have never been Mackenzie's strong suit, but she's always been an intelligent child. Mackenzie picks up on things other people wouldn't realize like a change in mood or the tensing of someone's body. Mackenzie has always been very astute ability to know when someone is lying. Sometimes people call this 'deductions,' but she just says reading people. She has a good understanding at problems and planning out possible solutions. Her brain is used more than people think.
Since she was a child, Mackenzie knew the only way she would build confidence is through herself, not other people. She has gone overload though. Mackenzie is aware that of her positive qualities and is not afraid to voice her high opinion of herself. She's been called arrogant, cocky, and similar words, but it just makes her more confident. She doesn't rely on people's opinions to make her feel good. Mackenzie does what she feels and that's enough for her. She's comfortable in her own skin and stands up for what she believes in.
Mackenzie's imagination was one of the few things that goes her through her childhood. She would constantly fantasize about how she would save her parents' failing relationship. While those thoughts have disappeared, her creative imagination stays with her. She does coming up with new ideas for crafts or parties. With her job as a barista and her love for makeup, she's always coming up with new designs or techniques to make her 'art' creative. Her rare, quiet moments are when her head is going through multiple ideas at once.

The yelling did stop. Her parents got a divorce when she was five. Oliver wanted to leave his wife's antagonistic attitude, walking out in the middle of the night. Mackenzie watched their final argument through the window, crying as her dad left. She didn't bother to ask the next day where he was. Her father was leaving them. Mackenzie's parents had joint custody, but she remained in her mother's house mostly since she was closer to school. Oliver would have her on weekends and holidays. Her father sold his dental practice, moving to a new one in Oakland, California. Mackenzie cried when she found out Oakland was five hours away. He was really leaving her. The worst came when he got remarried after a year of being divorced. His new wife already had a little girl and the new couple was pregnant with a boy. Mackenzie felt like she and her mother were being replaced. Her dad had a new family, a better one.
After the divorce, Mackenzie began to cause fights at school. She was so angry over the divorce. Why couldn't she have a happy family? Her mother was working as daycare employee so she had to miss work every time the school called. The school officials knew the divorce and lack of father was Mackenzie's reason for acting out, but her mother refused to listen. Maria enrolled her daughter in karate classes, hoping it would burn out her temper tantrums. They only increased her ability to fight and avoid getting hurt. Mackenzie's fighting abilities were what lead her to Mason Bass. Mackenzie wasn't the only bully at school, but she was one not to be messed with. She saw some big boy mocking Mason and pushing him around. Mackenzie walked up to the bully, all smiles before punching him in the jaw. When she threatened to hang him from the flag pole by his underwear, the bully scampered away. Mackenzie became Mason's bodyguard after the bully tried to pick on Mason again. The two became friends and she became part of LANC, making more new friends. Mackenzie finally felt like she had a family.
After they entered high school, Mackenzie's fighting lessened, though she could still destroy anyone who messed with her friends, and she found a new outlet: social media. She loved posting pictures of herself and her friends and having a funny caption to go along with it. Twitter was a personal favorite since Mackenzie had so many funny remarks and catchphrases. Her most popular one, "Where's the bleach?" after saying someone was bothering her. Mackenzie knew what was cool and her followers began to increase as she posted. A few businesses even asked her to use/mention their products. Mackenzie continued this, along with her barista job at a local coffee hangout.
Once the group began senior year, Mackenzie became terrified. All of her friends would be leaving to pursue their career goals and leave Los Angeles. Mackenzie has no clue what she wants to do after high school and the fact that college wasn't even on her radar till this year is even more upsetting. Her mother made her apply to a few colleges, but Mackenzie had no clue what to do. She's more afraid of losing her new family than her future. This summer, she's not looking forward to the end. When hearing about Mason's disappearance, Mackenzie is the least concerned of all their friends. She knows Mason's smart and is probably nerding it up at Stanford.
