Markus eyed Lucian silently as he finally began to speak. Markus was only able to give him a simple nod as he understood what he was trying to get at. It made sense, Lucian had never her before, ontop of everything else that was happening, well...Lucian's concern was warrented. But he knew the moment Isimir started talking, Lucian would see exactly what he meant. As much as he didn't want to admit it, Erin was more of a hazzard and danger to herself, more than anyone else. The only reason why she typically got anyone else killed, was due to her own recklessness, unless it was strictly in combat. Then that was entirely a different subject.

Markus rose to his feet and retrieved another glass, topping it off before he came back and handed it to Isimir, who swallowed it in one go. "Well, okay. That's fair enough. But uh, first. Big fan, Lucian. Can I call you Lucian? Or is it Mitchell? Mr. Mitchell? Mr. Lucian-" Just...Just answer my question, you idiot." Markus interrupted. Folding his arms across his chest. His eyes fixating on Erin. Who only have him a small chuckle in response as she shifted in the chair. "Okay, I was simply trying to get familiar with my new friend, but okay. Asshole." she retorted. "But, if you guys are being maskless, then so will I then." she said simply, removing the black leather mask that only covered the upper part of her face. Revealing a much younger looking face than Lucian may have been expecting. Seeing as Erin was indeed only twenty-three, in comparison to them.

Erin combed her fingers through her hair for a moment, "Well, first. You can call me Erin. Which, from what Markus here said before, you already knew that. So, thanks, ya dick." she shot in Markus' direction. Before looking back at Lucian, her hands clasped in front of her. "I got called into a simple mission, alright? Track down a van that had been reported missing, stop it, and bring whatever cargo it had inside." she took a deep breath, "Apparently, what they forgot to inform me of was...well..What they were transporting. Blades. But not just any, nah. Would have been too simple." she slowly rose to her feet, managing to catch herself as she was still somewhat light-headed.

"They were blades that could cut through metal that were powered by machines. I managed to jump onto the damn van, and well...They got me in the side. I fell off, got hit by an on-coming car, that didn't even have the kindness to stop and see if I was okay. But, that's fine. Karma will bite them in the ass." she mumbled. "So...I called you, Markus. Cuz, I knew if I was gonna die...I'd at least want someone I could trust to get me out of sight until I came back...Which...I can see that was the right choice." she said softly, before looking down at the ground.

Markus nodded, folding his own hands. He understood it, and knew she was being honest. "God damn....You really are fucking useless, huh?" he mumbled. "Hey now. Not entirely. I managed to get their tags, alright? Even if they're fake plate numbers, I at least have something. That and I sorta....Put a tracker on the truck. So, unless they ditched it, or found it, I'll be able to find the damn thing. So, suck it, Vasco." Erin shot back. Markus simply rolled his eyes before he looked at Lucian, "So, you still think she's a threat?" Markus scoffed.

"Hey, I'll have you know, I can be very threatening." Markus rolled his eyes once more before he walked back into the kitchen, "Yeah, and so can a pomaranian. I'm shaking in my boots over here." he shot back, with a fake expression of fear. Erin rolled her eyes, before looking back at Lucian, "So, got yourself stuck with Mr. Stick Up His Ass, huh? I feel sorry for you."

The minute that Erin began to talk, Lucian’s opinion of her rapidly began to shift. He just raised an eyebrow as she asked what to call him, but Markus cut her off, telling her to answer the question. He wasn’t sure what to expect as she took off the mask, but the face underneath it wasn’t it. She was young, younger than him by a few years by the looks of things.

Her story seemed to make sense and aligned with what he knew about Isimir. Despite the bickering and the snarking at each other, he got the impression that there was affection between Markus and Erin, even if he wasn’t exactly sure of the nature of the affection. He decided not to dwell on it or on why he cared. He laughed and shrugged slightly as Markus asked if he thought she was still a threat. “One doesn’t like to make assumptions,” he replied, catching Erin’s eye and grinning. Her comment about Markus made him laugh just as he took a mouthful of his drink.

“Oh, I don’t know, he has his charms. And, well, he’s stuck with me just as much as I’m stuck with him, but he puts up with me like a saint,” he said, draining his glass. “And as for your earlier question, Lucian is fine. Or Luc.” He said. “We’re all friends here.” He sat down properly on the couch, throwing a leg over the arm of it as he did so. “So, come on, spill the beans, how do you know our darling Markus? Did he just save your ass multiple times and end up being stuck with you? Because that’s more or less what happened here,” he said, shooting Markus a grin.

Erin gave Lucian a small, forced smile as he said he didn't like to make assumptions. She could tell from his over all vibe and manner, that he wasn't exactly being truthful. Erin may not have been the brightest, but she could tell when people were suspicious of her. Her had every right to be. So, she couldn't entirely blame him. Especially seeing as he was none other than Maelstrom, something she wasn't expecting. But not pleasantly surprised. She had to admit, she admired his work, in and out of the villain role. He got the work done, and she had to admire it.

Markus rolled his eyes as he overheard the banter between Erin and Lucian, "I can hear you two, ya know?" he said with a sigh as he grabbed a can from the cupboard. "Okay, and?" she chuckled. He shook his head once more, before grabbing a spoon from one of the drawers and walked back over, handing Erin the can and utensil. "Just eat, you look like shit." he muttered, before sitting down on the floor. Erin rolled her eyes, "Like you're one to talk, asshole." she muttered as she opened the can and slowly took a few bites of food, before stopping. She sighed, taking a small glimpse towards Markus, seeing if she was allowed to explain things to Lucian. Markus simply gave her a small nod to continue.

Erin straightened her posture in the chair, wrapping her arm around one of her legs as she propped it up, "Well...I've known Markus for...The past...what? Six years?" she asked, eyebrow arched as if trying to remember. Markus shook his head, "Try eleven years, and still counting. How hard did you hit your head?" Markus scoffed. Erin shot him a small glare, before a small smile creased her lips, "Pretty hard actually...The car hitting me didn't help..." she said with a defeated tone, taking a few more bites from the can of food. "We kind of...Knew each other since I was a kid. I mean, I'm still young but...He knew me for...The worst half, honestly." she chuckled, rubbing the back of her neck. "Whenever shit would go down, Markus would do his best to be there for me...Kind of like an older brother...Even if he is an asshole sometimes, so can I be." her voice dipped a bit for a moment. "After my powers kind of...made themselves known, I'd use Markus to try to see what kind of shit I could handle, and visa versa. We kinda like....Trained, I guess?" Markus gave her a small nod, as a small smile creased his lips for just a moment.

"You always were a pain in my ass, and I think you always will be. But, I'm glad to know you're okay, Rin...Even if how we left last time were on..Well...Ya know." his voice dipping out at the end of his sentence. Erin closed her eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath, "It was a botched mission...On both of our ends, Markus...I can't...I don't fault you for what happened. I'm just sorry about your partner...BlackHawk." Erin gave Markus a saddened look, one of which he returned of his own. "It's okay, Rin...We all fucked up that day. Just...Some of us got out..." Erin sighed, "And one didn't..." she muttered, combing her hand through her hair. She hadn't entirely acknowledged that mission since it happened. Seeing what became of someone they both considered to be a good friend, and well revered hero like BlackHawk was, well...It was hard for them to talk about. The two exchanged one more look in silence before Markus spoke up again, "Hey look...You're still not fully healed up and...It's been a while...Think you can...Maybe stay the night, we can catch up tomorrow and...Go on from there...Before you leave? We...We might even be able to use your help actually. What do you think, Luc?" he asked, with a raised eyebrow as he looked at Lucian.

Erin shot them both a look, "Hey, I don't want to intrude more than I already have, alright? I'll be more than fine...Chances of me dying again are good as any...But, if you need information, or a third man out there to do some scouting, recon, whatever...I can help with that. If it's what I think it's about..." she gave them both a knowing look, eyebrows raised as her eyes darted between the two. Not knowing if they were being listened in on, Erin wasn't going to risk the chances. She knew what was going on in Scarriden, and was admmitedly scared as well, fuck, who wasn't?

He could tell by their banter that they’d been close, and that whatever had happened between them wasn’t still lingering between them or affecting their relationship. But despite seeing how much Markus trusted her, that just put Lucian more on his guard. If they were going to use someone to get to them, to get their guard down or to feed information back to this group they were dealing with, someone like her was the perfect target. But Markus just seemed happy to have his friend back.

The mention of BlackHawk just made Lucian glance away and take a long mouthful of his drink. He’d been on a job with some other villains when the news that BlackHawk had been killed reached them, and they hadn’t exactly mourned him. They were alive and he wasn’t, and that had just made them feel even more invincible. And now that memory jarred with his current reality. He got to his feet and poured himself another drink.

He had to resist the temptation to sigh as Markus said they could probably do with the help. They could, they needed as many people as possible in all reality and if they were being honest with themselves. Because Lucian got the impression that one of these days, their luck would run out and they’d be lucky to make it out alive.

But he still didn’t trust Erin. For her to appear from nowhere, just out of the blue like that, and contact Markus... it felt off. Maybe it was just that he wasn’t used to trusting anyone, period, but he didn’t want to just presume it was fine. He wasn’t even sure about letting her stay the night in case she tried killing them both in their sleep. After the few days they’d had, he didn’t feel like taking any chances.

“Can you give us a minute to talk, Erin?” Lucian said, fixing an apologetic smile on his face. “There’s only one bed so we need to discuss sleeping arrangements.” It was a lie and not a very good one, but frankly he didn’t care if he hurt her feelings at this point. “If you want to go clean up, the bathroom is just down the hall there on your right.”

Markus looked over at Lucian as he got to his feet, getting another drink. He could tell what was running through his head, and it wasn't going to be good. Markus opened his mouth to speak, but Lucian got the jump ahead of him on that one. He could tell with Lucian's request for a moment, he knew what it was going to be about, but he didn't want to start an argument and simply let him finish as he offered Erin the bathroom to clean herself off in if she needed it. Erin shot Lucian a small smile, "Hey man, I get it. No worries. Take all the time you need." she said with a soft tone, before looking at Markus for a moment, knowing the look in his eyes all too well. "I'll uh...I'll actually take that offer...I should probably get some of this blood off me anyway...Thanks, Lucian." she gave him a small smile as she nodded and made her way down the hallways silently as she shuffled across the floor. Closing the door behind her, a soft sigh escaped her lips before she walked over to the sink, looking at herself in the mirror.

Erin had minor cuts and bruises along her face, mainly one that was more concerning along her forehead, but it'd be fully healed by the morning. Erin turned the water on as she splashed some onto her face and looked at her reflection once more as the water dripped down her skin. She shook her head, "What the fuck are you doing, Erin...?" she muttered as she turned, resting her back against the wall and slid down, keeping the back of her head pressed neatly against the wall. She knew she shouldn't have come here, nevermind should she have contacted Markus. This was all one big mistake, and she knew what was going to come from this after she left the bathroom. She'd walk out and be told to leave, and she'd understand, Erin was a dumbass who did dumbass things, but she wasn't stupid. She knew how people were, and how they acted. Lucian didn't trust her, and it was all too obvious. Erin shook her head as she could hear mumbled voices coming from the other side of the wall. It was too low and indistinct for her to make out, but she could tell that Markus and Lucian weren't agreeing on things, and she knew full well it was her fault.

---

Markus watched as Erin nodded and thanked Lucian for letting her use the bathroom and watched silently as she made her way down the short hallway and into the bathroom. Markus arched his eyebrow for a moment, turning to look back at Lucian before he walked over to the kitchen, "Look, before you even say it, we all know what you're thinking. Alright? So, cut the shit, Luc." Markus said abruptly, and admittedly a little too stern than he would have liked otherwise. He sighed for a moment before he looked back up, "I know how convienent it is for her to have shown up tonight, out of all nights but.." he sighed once more, shaking his head as he leaned against the counter top. "She's not a danger, to anyone, Lucian. Literally, the only person she is a danger to, is herself." Markus stated as calmly as he could.

He looked away as he straightened his position, "You have every right to distrust her, even sometimes I do. But not for the same reasons as you do." he began, "You don't trust her because you think they may be using her against us, but trust me when I say this, Lucian. If they wanted to get to me, they wouldn't use her. Want to know why?" his eyebrows raised as he continued, "She can't keep her god damn mouth closed for more than five god damn seconds, but she also can't lie for shit. She's never been able to lie about anything. But she's also not the most honest person either. But there is one thing I know about her, she wouldn't come here and be a mole. As grey as her morals and way of things are...She's beyond loyal. Isimir would go down fighting tooth and nail for the people she views as close to her, alright?" his eyes flashed across Lucian's face for a moment as he took a step back, combing his fingers through his hair.

"There uh...There was a time when the both of us got captured and intirigated for hours. They tortured us rigorously for two days...She got the worst of it..." his voice trailed off for a moment as he pinched the arch of his nose. "But...She never once cracked. She never once told them what they wanted to know. If anything, I was the one who almost cracked, and she knew that. It's why she didn't stop talking. She kept their anger aimed on her the entire time. She knew they could kill me, and not her. So she did what she could to get the brunt of it all." Markus took another deep breath as he downed the last glass he poured of his drink, leaning against the counter top.

He took a moment before he began to speak again, "I know you don't trust her, and I don't expect you to. But I do. I trust her with my life. She doesn't have to stay here...But she can help in other ways. She wants to help, even if it's just helping is figure out an idea. We are running out of time, Lucian...Up until now it was just us...She could help us. But if you really don't want that extra help, then fine. Just know you'll blow the last chance of help we'll probably ever-" Markus stopped mid sentence as he heard the bathroom door open up and footsteps finally softly padded across the hardwood flood of the apartment until they stopped at the entrance of the kitchen.

Markus looked up as he saw Erin standing there, her head was tilted to the side as she was looking down at her hands that shook for a moment before she put them in her overcoat's inner pockets. "Uhm..look." Erin began, breaking the awkward silence, "I genuinely don't want to cause any more trouble than I already have, and don't bullshit me in saying I haven't. I know when I'm an inconvience." she stated softly. Her eyes finally looking up at Markus and then at Lucian, who she gave a small nod to, "I can come back tomorrow...Give you guys some time to...Talk things over and not have to worry about someone else listening in. And I don't want either of you to bullshit me, alright? If I can be honest with you, you can be honest with me. You should know that already, Markus." her voice was pointed at her last statement, as her eyes landed on Markus.

"I want to help, I do but...I'm not going to get involved if my help isn't genuinely wanted, or if I'm not trusted and it's fine. Things are shit for all of us. I just want you two to be safe, alright?" she gave them a small smile, before looking at Lucian, "Try to keep my Markus safe, yeah?" she gave him a small, genuine smile and nod, before looking at Markus, "Keep Mr. Fancy Pants safe too. I'll see you guys tomorrow sometime." she gave them another small, awkward nod of her head before she turned and began to make her way to the door.

Luc knew that Markus wasn't going to be terribly happy about this, and the first words out of his mouth just confirmed that. Lucian just rolled his eyes and folded his arms. Fucking heroes and their alliances and their unwavering trust in everyone they met. Markus had apparently realised he'd been a little harsh, but kept talking about how Erin wasn't really a threat, how she wasn't a threat to anyone but herself. He seemed sure that Isimir would never turn on them, would never betray anyone she cared about.

It was the story of torture that finally got Lucian to actually reconsider. The tale turned his stomach a little. He'd never personally been a fan of torturing heroes. It was messy and unnecessary and far, far too risky. One sure way to piss off the heroes was to attack one of their own, and then they'd swing in all guns blazing. It wasn't his style. But at the same time, he'd shrugged and said they were only heroes. Now, the thought of that happening to Markus... Goddammit, befriending a hero was compromising everything he'd stood for in the past.

He was about to finally retort to Markus' comment about him throwing away the only chance of help they'd ever had, when they both heard light footsteps on the floor and turned to look. Lucian just poured himself another drink and downed it in one as Erin began to speak. He still wanted to tell her to leave and not come back, still didn't trust her. But he glanced at Markus for just a moment, before looking back to Erin. Refusing Erin's help could drive a wedge between him and Markus, and they didn't need that right now. And besides, Markus did have a point. They needed the help before one of them was killed. As Erin told him to look after her Markus, something in Lucian twisted a little, a feeling he shoved away.

He sighed and rolled his eyes as Erin went to leave. "Stop." He glanced at Markus again, for just a moment. "You can stay. Hero boy here has a point, we need the help. But I have no fucking idea where we're all going to sleep, and this apartment is not big enough for three people, so we're going to have to seriously reconsider. And if I get any inkling that you're not completely and totally on our side, you're going to have me to deal with. Understood?" He said, raising an eyebrow.
