NEW SALEM

Bordering on the White Ford National Forest, in Northern Connecticut, lies one of the country’s oldest towns. Known to all by the name of Windsor, this small town was established in the winter of 1692, at the height of chaos brought about in Salem, Massachusetts by the so-called Witch Trials.
Though nothing but a by-product of mass hysteria and opportunists taking advantage of it, unbeknownst to most, there was a small section of the population that fled Salem, heading south in search of a land described to them by others where they could be free of persecution. Those people? Witches.
Drawn in by the Nexus of magic that lies within the heart of what is now the White Ford National Forest, these witches set about creating a community where they and any other good intentioned supernatural beings could find safety among the powerless mundanes.
And so, Windsor was created.
The town quickly became a well known safe haven for supernaturals, as the founders had established a ward around the town causing any mundane -as they called humans- to turn the other way or find a way around. But along with the development of the country around them, it soon became obvious that they could not remain isolated from the mundanes and still be prosperous. Thus in 1776, shortly after the Colonies declared their independence from what many considered their homeland, Windsor council members gathered to bring down the magical barrier and fully incorporate the town. The mundane population within the town lines has steadily increased over centuries, and present-day Windsor boasts a population of a great mix of all races supernatural and mundane.
However, peace can never seem to be something that lasts for too long in this town. Even before the mundanes were allowed a place, it always seemed that the town attracted some of the folks with most reprehensible behavior -to put it nicely. Always in search of something they could only get from the forest. Knowing about the existence of the Nexus, the same council that voted to bring down the barrier, decided to take it upon themselves to protect the nexus from being used for ill ends, with their successors on the council taking a vow to do the same. This was a practice that remained successful for many years, but as with all good things, this too will soon likely reach it’s end.
