HUANG “Amber” QUIYUE || ELEMENTAL MIMICRY || 28 || BISEXUAL

Initially this meant that she would begin to mimic the properties of any material that she was in contact with without any conscious control of her powers, which resulted in several difficult transitions and trauma. Once she has absorbed a material she can becoming entirely composed of it or limit the mimicry to certain parts of her anatomy, though the change would need to spread across from the point of touch to reach elsewhere. While absorbing a material fully she is able to use it to restore injuries to their original state though certain materials have an easier time of this than others, and are less strenuous for her to make use of.
The biggest hindrance to powers is that increased emotional distress has caused her to lose control of her abilities with varying results; such as random absorption of anything in her vicinity for example. She has also struggled when dealing with liquid or gas substances, such as water or smoke as it causes her additional strain to maintain a humanoid form and to avoid simply melting or dissipating into nothingness.
While she was still undergoing regular training there was an emphasis on seeing if she was able to memorise certain materials for future use, and therefore not require recent contact this was met with mixed results. And even where she was able to manage this the duration was fleeting and exhausting to her, eventually being deemed not worth pursuing. As she still relies on physical contact with a material in order to gain its properties she keeps various items around her apartment, as well as several shaped charms dangling from her keys, so she has options should she need them.
When her brother was still around they also shared a certain link in that he was capable of acting as a source for her to absorb materials from, even over large distances as well as them being able to focus her abilities when in contact with one another and helping her to afford a greater level of control. Whether this power came from her or her brother was never made clear, though the pair did also share an emotional and sensory link as well that extended beyond the normal for twins.

Amber is still a highly active person, and loves boxing, and has dabbled with a few other martial arts but prefers the more raw approach compared to precisely applied pressure. She also has indulged in more narcotics than she probably should have, worse still is that she is able to absorb them directly to attain a greater high. Due to her power she adores anything tactile simply because of the different ways she can feel surfaces under her fingers, which explains why her apartment is filled with all manner of junk. She secretly enjoys chaos and loves a little madness from time to time. An avid dancerand music lover her taste is fairly eclectic but she adores Post-Grunge and Symphonic metal first and foremost.

┍━━━━━ DISLIKES ━━━━━┑
Amber may keep herself locked away but she hates inaction as she would rather be doing something than nothing, to the point that she can’t stay still for long unless her mind is focused on something. She also loathes when people pity her for what she’s been through, almost as much as she hates talking about it.

┍━━━━━ HOBBIES ━━━━━┑
Amber enjoys various crafts such as; pottery, metalwork, and glassmaking since it enables her to explore the different textures. Also, being able to create makes her feel more human since her powers always cause her to think of destruction.

Amber’s changed a lot over the years since she first started her training. She was always a bright, boisterous girl ready to take on the world and just as likely to blow it up as she was to save it.
However these days she usually keeps her distance from others with superpowers beyond what minimal social interaction she has to deal with in the halls of the Barnyard. And her once exuberant personality has become diluted to the point of obscurity when within range of the superhero community on the whole; though despite this she almost returns to her old self in brief flashes while at work or alone in her apartment.

It was during this partial working year away from her more academic studies that she encountered a roguish man who self-styled himself as “hailing from the orient”, who quite literally swept her off her feet on a night out in one of the local towns. Together they spent the rest of the summer not getting a whole lot of work done, with their whirlwind romance becoming almost the epitome of romantic comedy as her father; Kevin Huang had passed himself off as an exotic traveller to woo Amelia while they were in another country. Despite them both being born and raised in downtown New York and his day job being that of a high school teacher rather than Indiana Jones. This shared joke became the basis of their infatuation with one another as they returned home in each other's arms, before settling down to raise a family.
Amelia and Kevin were married and a couple of years later were blessed with a beautiful pair of twins in the form of Qiuyang and Qiuyue, who later become more wildly known as Alexander and Amber Huang respectively. The twins had shared a special bond from the moment they were born with Qiuyang holding in his first cry till after his younger sister had arrived moments behind him, and from then on becoming almost inseparable as they grew up.
Their childhood was perhaps best described as idyllic, with the two being raised in a loving and carefree home that ensured that their development proceeded without impediment. Their parents made sure to instil a thirst for knowledge in them by investing time in their studies as well as yearly trips to exotic and historical locations, though these did become less frequent once they were enrolled at the Academy. Amelia had developed clairvoyance, specifically retrocognition early in her life and had attended herself, so she had made sure that both of the children were tested and underwent studies in addition to normal schooling as they were growing up. Even so when their powers manifested, at the age of ten it came as a shock that spurred their parents to switch the twins into full time enrolment at the academy, while they took up the slack of regular tuition at home.
Time at the Academy was both interesting and dull for Amber as she found little of the scholarly aspect difficult and was often accused of slacking off despite turning in work of impeccable quality, much to the chagrin of some of her fellow student. Yet her grasp of her powers took far longer than she would have liked to the point of frustration, and her teachers shared their dismay with her slow progress. However things did pickup whenever she was working with her brother, as If her twin was a focus point for her as together she could calm herself easily.
As she continued to find their curriculum lacking any draw for her she began to gravitate more towards a rebellious streak however the true extent of her delinquency didn’t become entirely apparent as an issue until her 2nd year. It was during this time following the recent admission of a new student by the name of Brad, with whom she began to develop a strong friendship and later a budding relationship. From then on it became a united front of Brad, Xander and Amber against much of the Academy, with a few others clinging on for dear life. Though for all of their close friendship as they matured the loving couple began to drift away from the third wheel in their group, which caused a certain level of animosity that did not become visible until it was far too late to rectify.
Tensions became heated between them all following a tragedy in the form of Amelia being murdered in their home in the middle of the summer holidays while Amber and Brad had ran away to spend some time alone. Amber had become rather withdrawn following her breakup with Brad, and her brother seemed to be of little help since he almost appeared to be revelling her suffering.
Despite Amber’s clear potential she was never deemed a suitable candidate to join the ranks of the other superheroes, as following the incidents surrounding her brother it was deemed that control of her abilities had become unstable. The black mark left by her brother caused much of the superhero community at large to view her with suspicion and distrust, fearing that she would betray them as well.
She was 21 when she met Calliope and it was as if the heavens had opened and light had returned to her world, as the woman managed to lift her out of her spiral of depression towards being an actual human again. This began seeming like her life had finally taken a turn for the better as they lived a couple of contented years that were to cumulate with their marriage and hopefully their very own happy ever after. At least, that was until her brother returned, having avoided death for the umpteenth time as he proceeded to wreak havoc in the middle of the wedding.
Her living quarters in the Barnyard are fairly close to the furnace room in the basement, the location of which she takes full advantage of by allowing her easy access to a few slightly more obscure materials as well as lots of empty storage space that she’s been able to flesh out into a person workroom with the permission of maintenance.
These days she often keeps her distance from the other residents of The Barnyard, and what time she does spent outside of her apartment is done in the rather worn and run-down gym across the street where she works coaching Boxing primarily for normal people.
