Written description:He can be obnoxious, pushy, close-minded, and bullheaded. See's himself not as a hero but as a degenerate sinner. He can also be brave, fiercely protective, compassionate and steadfast. He can be both incredibly selfless and incredibly selfish, sometimes in the same breath. He conceals his issues behind a smartass, gungho, horndog attitude. He takes pleasure in the simple things; food, alcohol, sex, music, his car, and beating the crap out of 'evil things'. If he focuses on these things and not on the larger picture, he can fool himself into thinking that this life is perfect for him. That it's what he would have chosen, if he had ever been given a choice. He takes the world's troubles and puts them on his shoulders, and it tears him apart. Dean is very much an Alpha Male character, asserting his own will time and again (with the notable exception being against his father for many years.)

When Sam finally grew up, he left for Stanford. While there, he became estranged from Dean and his father and didn't speak to them for at least a couple of years, until one day he had no choice. Dean showed up voicing that he needed his brother help, that Dad had been missing for a few days, not returning from a 'hunting trip.' After Sammy's college girlfriend was murdered in the same way his mother was, he agreed to go find their father in the hope that dad could locate the demon for some much needed revenge. After many hunts and a long time searching, the brothers found John just in time for Dean to be fatally injured in a demonic car crash so John would have to sell his soul to save him, for the first time, putting his sons life before his vendetta, and ultimately died for him. Eventually, revived Dean and Sam tracked down the demon who had murdered Sam's girlfriend, their mom , and made the deal with John, and killed him. The boys decided to stick together, and continue hunting after that; but they soon realized that their mother's death wasn't as wrapped up as it previously had seemed. Turned out Sam was choosen, along with a few others, to battle it out to be the leader of a demon army. And by choosen, of course I mean baptized in demon blood while he witnessed his mother burn on the ceiling above his crib, giving him supernatural powers. Sam and the group of people who had been similarly given powers were captured and forced to fight it out to determine who was strong enough to lead the army of Hell. In the battle, Sam was stabbed in the back, not metaphorically, literally; just in time to be found by his older brother (Just in time to watch someone you love die again, right Winchesters?), and Dean felt the only option left was to sell his soul for Sam's life in the very same way his father did for him. After Sam was then saved, they attempted to figure out a way out of said aforementioned deal, but finding none, Dean was attacked by Hellhounds and went to hell for a total of four month's in our time, forty years in Hell time. But fret not, he was rescued by none other than Castiel, angel of the Lord, best of his garrison...

When he picked up Sammy from college, Dean Winchester was markedly a âtype.â Dean was the bad boy, the kind that pop culture tells âwomen want and men want to be.â He was an incorrigible flirt and preferred his ladies fast, he barked and scowled when he was not in charge, and when someone was in his car, it was his rules, and they'd listen to his music the whole way. He liked guns and beer and bad fast food, and no one would ever catch him in a pair of hipster jeans. He made fun of his little brother for being a nerd (i.e. âreading booksâ) and his bravado was right up there with Han Solo and Mal Reynolds. Sure, he was a little goofy and mired in crippling feelings of worthlessness and doubt, but that was not what he showed upfront. At first glance, Dean Winchester was a throwback of the decidedly cowboy variety. With a distant dad he was desperate to impress, Dean took on a lot of his fatherâs tastes, in hopes that he would be praised and noticed. But Dean Winchester was not very much like his father, and there was a dichotomy between them.
So what happened to change the eldest Winchester brother, Dean? Now he has gone through a glorious transformation from posturing, macho alpha dog to⊠well, something that is no longer capable of being pared down into a caricature.
Johnâs death was the start of Deanâs road to adulthood, to becoming a person who had to make his own decisions without guidance and pave his way in the world. But part of being an adult was wrapped up in still fulfilling the single most important order his father ever gave him: Taking care of Sammy. With John away on hunts, driven by revenge and grief, Dean was always the primary caretaker of his little brother Sam, essentially filling both parental roles all throughout his childhood. Having this responsibility thrust on him so early in life carved out the core of Deanâs characterâthe compulsive need to take care of the people who mattered in his life, no one more than Sammy. He expanded that impulse to include more people every year, to the point of ignoring his own health and happiness.
His familial instinct seemed to be one of the main things that kept him and his brother alive. Deanâs true strength wasnât to drink-and-drink-and-lead-and-fight but to love the people in his life so fiercely that they could not let him down. There's a history of his loved ones overthrowing mind-control and demonic possession because Dean loves them so much that they couldn't bear to hurt him. Castiel had been brainwashed to kill thousands of simulacra, all of them very real, but when it came time to murder Dean, one honest plea of âI need youâweâre familyâ stayed Casâ hand. Doesnât quite sound like your typical hyper-masculine-fueled Fast and Furious rodeo anymore, does it?
As it turns out, Dean was the better keeper of nerdy pop culture referencesâhe explained to Sam that no, the angel Metatron was not Megatron the Transformerâso calling his brother the geek in the family was an argument of semantics at that point. He happened to think Dirty Dancing was a fine film because, you know, Patrick Swayze was in it. He was a damn good cook where Sam had been sure heâd never stepped foot in a kitchen. He made a home for himself and started what he called ânestingâ once they moved into the newly discovered Men of Letters bunker. Spending his nights in bars trying to pick up ladies held less appeal than it did before. He was still not a fan of salads, but he knew it was good to eat one once in a while. In short, his priorities had clearly shifted; he was an adult. He was still gruff, still capable, still tougher than titanium, but no longer felt the need to project socially-typified masculine cues to prove himself. He was more comfortable in his own skin.
In short, now, heâs a great role model for anyone concerned about what it means to âbehave like a man.â Because Dean Winchester proves that there are no boundaries to that definition, and does it by carefully deconstructing every damaging stereotype that people still love to lay on thick. Heâs got that Steve McQueen swagger, that Paul Newman charm, that John Wayne no-nonsense⊠but heâs also a loving, nerdy, dedicated, annoying mass of insecurities and hopes. Because heâs a human being, and thatâs how they roll.

Theme Songs
Motherless Sons || Caitlin Obom
Lock all your stories away
leave all your prayers for the end of the day.
With a tall shot of liquor and a girl who won't stray
you can keep all Hell's fury at bay.
But you stare at the ceiling and wait for the light
wondering if you're the one burning the night.
So brother don't put down your gun
this is how Hell and the West were won...
With the bite of a bullet
Holy smoke from a gun
and the rage of a Motherless Son.
Run out your years on the road
your heart is where all their troubles get stowed.
With a tongue made of silver
and the luck that you rode
someone else can help shoulder the load.
But you shield all the world
soak your wound in neglect
and ask if there's anything left to protect.
But brother don't put down your gun
this is how Hell and the West were won...
With the bite of a bullet
Holy smoke from a gun
and the rage of a Motherless Son.
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray my Father my promise I'll keep.
The nightmare's they crawl and they claw at my door
if I could lay my head down I won't cry no moreâŠ
So brother hold fast to your guns
this is where fighting your demons gets fun...
With the bite of a bullet
Holy smoke from a gun
and the rage of us Motherless Sons.
All of your Monsters || Caitlin Obom
God damn you and all of your monsters
bar the gates and hide your daughters
me and my brother
we've been driving all night
Turn the locks and sign your papers
saddle up to meet your makers
me and my brother like our odds in this fight.
And all these miles of blacktop look the same.
Holy water, a bottle of Jack
and ten bucks to my name.
If you take on Hell and Heaven
you best have a steady aim.
Cause the only shots I take I shoot to kill
waiting for the last of your blood to spillâŠ
Oh black water drag me under
see if you can drown the hunter
Me and my brother harder than hell to take down
Bare your teeth and grab your guns
cause we're the roughest kind of fun
Me and my brother taste like your biting your tongue.
And all these miles of blacktop look the same
Holy water, a bottle of Jack, and ten bucks to my name
If you take on Hell and Heaven
you best have a steady aim
Cause the only shots I take I shoot to kill
waiting for the last of your blood to spillâŠ
And I think to myself what a terrible world
dying for some new God's flack to unfurl
The things I had to lose for you to liveâŠ
will I die before I run out of blood to give?
So God damn you and all of your monsters
leading us straight to the slaughter
Me and my brother won't see each other tonight
God damn you and all of your monsters
God damn you and all of your monstersâŠ
