The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 2 authors
He had made mention that he had been trapped for two centuries. This only made her want to free him more. No one should be trapped for that amount of time. In fact no one should be trapped at all, they should be free to do whatever they pleased.
His next statement made her angry. "Hey!" She started while she jumped up and made her way to him. She was small standing there in front of him, but that didn't stop her from getting up in his face. "I know you've been hurt by humans. You had your trust broken by the one who trapped you and I'm sure you've had many unfavorable masters. However haven't I shown you so far that I'm different from them? And don't think I'm so naive to not realize I can order you around, I noticed that when I demanded you tell me of how you were trapped. I apologize for doing that, I don't want to order you around. I have enough servants I can do that with I don't need another one. So I'm going to do my best not to order you around." She began to calm herself down some, backing down from him a bit. She fell silent for a moment, choosing her next words carefully.
"Nasir pleas can't you have some faith in me? I don't make empty promises, I will keep this promise even if it kills me. Now if you so choose, can you please tell me what you know about how to free you? If you don't wish to then that is okay, I'll find out some other way. Perhaps the library will have some information..." She began to think of where she could get some information on the subject. One arm was across her abdomen while the other elbow rested on top of it, her hand up near her face with one finger tapping her cheek in thought.
"Perhaps in some small way I am like your many servants. But they have the ability, the option, to flee this life, to run away! They don't physically have to obey every order given to them! But what choice do I get? None!" he snapped, marching up to her after she backed off, eyes narrowed at the young woman. His eyes flickered from violet to amber as he was once more reminded of the one who did this to him.
"It wasn't just any human that had me sealed into that damn ring!" he hissed venomously, hatred in his features. Remembering the hurt all over again reminded him of why he couldn't afford to trust. No one, no matter what.
As he continued to brood on his situation and losing his freedom to the one he trusted most, Samira startled him out of his angry thoughts. Looking at her as if she sprouted a second head, he went over the words in his head, trying to fathom a shahzadi saying them to him. She'd keep this promise even if it killed her? Empty words, surely...but what conviction she seemed to give them. Even more than her unusual actions, Nasir once more found himself surprised at her determined words. Such an unusual human.
Eyes no longer full of smoldering anger, Nasir's gaze no longer held a touch of amber coloring his irises. He remained silent, her request for him to put his faith-and ultimately- his trust into her left unanswered. After a moment, he sighed, shaking his head. Surely she was trying to confuse him.
"I don't know. I don't know if you are a fool or a convincing actress." he said, inwardly realizing this wasn't exactly reassuring, nor was it complimentary. Folding his arms over his chest, the djinni plopped down on his pillow fort letting out a huff. More silence followed before he spoke again, almost in an offhand manner. "I do not...recall how you could break my spell....It can't be done with magic, that is all I know." he muttered, pursing his lips and staring at a loose thread on one of the cushions he had pilfered.
"Perhaps to you it wasn't just any human, but to me they are just some human because you haven't really explained anything to me!" She snapped right back at him angrily and that's when she felt it. The tears well up in her eyes like they always did when she got angry. She quickly closed her eyes trying to will the tears away, but as she did so it only caused a few to spill down on her cheeks. She let out an exasperated sigh as she turned away from him and made her way back to her bed. She plopped down on it and hugged a pillow close to her chest as she tried to calm herself down.
She didn't say anything for a long time, even after he told her what he knew of how to free him. It wasn't much, but it was a start. "I'm only trying to help you Nasir. I don't have any ulterior motives, my motives are pure. You've been trapped for way too long and you deserve to be free. I hope you come to understand this eventually." She finally spoke, her voice sounded tired like she was ready to fall asleep. "I'll try and look into how to free you tomorrow in the library..." She finished before drifting off to sleep after having such a long and eventful day.
Now all alone, the djinni would have to entertain himself. He certainly didn't need sleep, being in hibernation for over two centuries. Glancing about the male decided to occupy himself with inspecting the princesses' belongings and rearranging a few he didn't like the order of. When he had finished with that, he curbed his boredom by braiding the threads at the edges of her tapestries.
"Time to wake up Shahzadi!" A knock and an announcement were all that proceeded Zaynab's entrance into Samira's chambers the next morning, the woman determined to get the royal presentable as soon as possible. Closing the door behind her before it was even possible for a guard to accidentally see, the nursemaid approached the bed and pulled the sheet from her charge, following the action by pulling aside the curtains so light would stream in through the balcony window. "We mustn't dawdle! You have a visitor this morning." Zaynab informed Samira with a clap of her hands, heading to the wardrobe to pick clothes for the shahzadi. She paused, quirking a brow in puzzlement as she finally noticed the pile of cushions.
"Samira, why are your cushions all piled in the corner?" Zaynab asked, looking perplexed at the deranged pillow fort housing one currently smirking djinni. Nasir seemed to be in good spirits, loving the look of confusion upon the poor old woman's face.
Shaking her head, the nurse maid sighed. "In any case, make haste! Your father and Lord Kadir are awaiting your presence in the dining hall." Zaynab wasted no time in helping the princess into her clothes, swiftly brushing and pulling the red tresses back and holding them with jewel and gold hair ornaments. "I know you insist you don't like him, but do try to be courteous. After all, he has visited you more than any of your other suitors. You mustn't dismiss him so soon!" Zaynab commented, certain Samira would protest having to eat and socialize with the noble currently coming to call upon her.
Preparations finally done, Zaynab and the guards assigned to her led Samira through the palace to the dining hall. Nasir followed behind, refraining from whistling. It wouldn't do to be heard but not seen.
The shah stood near the head of the table, ready to seat himself beside a dark-haired man to his right. The suitor in question appeared to be in his thirties at the earliest, a cool smile playing on his lips. Kadir bowed his head to the princess, though his eyes never strayed from her.
"A pleasure to see you shahzadi Samira." he greeted, Looking at her appraisingly. She was certainly pretty enough. And the power and wealth was enough to seal the deal.
At the gesture from the shah, Kadir sat opposite the princess, making himself comfortable. "You look more lovely each time we meet." he praised her, an air of smug confidence about him. The shah for his part, saw no reason to reject the man. He was one of the subrulers of his kingdom, overseeing a decent territory and being of distant relations to the royal line himself.
Nasir plopped himself unceremoniously beside Kadir, cross-legged once more. Sniffing at the man, he wrinkled his nose in distaste. He reeked of strong incense..or some kind of perfume. His thin little mustache was pathetic as well. Tugging lightly on a piece of hair, Nasir nearly snickered aloud when the man brushed his hair back, feeling the tug but otherwise completely unaware that there was a strange man sitting beside him.
Finally she gave up, sitting up in her bed. Her hair was a frizzy mess as she rubbed her eyes, trying to comprehend what the woman was saying. A visitor? Who would be coming to visit her so early in the morning? She was still processing all of this, she almost missed Zaynab's question.
"Oh I just felt like making myself a new area to relax in. A slight change of scenery if you will." She finally responded as she moved to be made ready by Zaynab. That's when she was informed of who had come to call on her. "Gross..." She said under her breath which in turn got her a disapproving look from Zaynab.
"He smells awful, he fakes his kindness, he doesn't truly like me you can see the greed in his eyes, I'm sure he'll be a tyrant, and to top it all off if I married him I doubt he'd treat me kindly anymore. He would probably beat me so no I don't like him. I am appalled that you and father would want me to marry such a man." She explained as she displayed a foul look. Zaynab wouldn't say much more to this as she was now focused on ushering her out the door.
Entering the dining hall she watched as Lord Kadir bowed his head in respect to her. She however didn't do anything of the sort. Instead she kept her head held high and an unimpressed look on her face. "Mm I can't say it's a pleasure to see you Lord Kadir." She responded, getting a disapproving glance from her father. This man was probably the only man she would really protest and anger her father over.
"Yes and you look older, fatter, and filled with more greed each time we meet." She responded to his attempt at a compliment. Her voice was laced with venom, she didn't not fear letting him know she didn't not care for him.
"Samira how dare you disrespect our guest! Apologize!" The Shah all but yelled at his daughter as they sat down. She had barely heard her father, however, as she was distracted by Nasir. She wished she could speak to him, to ask him to terrorize this man even more.
"I'm sorry..." Samira started and just as her father began to relax she continued. "I'm sorry I cannot accept a greed filled man as yourself to be my husband." She knew she was risking her father's wrath, however she would rather deal with that then this man.
He began to relax as he heard the word 'sorry' exit her lips. Good, she was mending her ways and realizing that her rudeness was unacceptable. His relief vanished in a second as she continued to speak, her voice cold and her words improper and exceedingly disrespectful. The shah nearly spat out his drink in mortification, the hairs of his mustache and beard bristling as he faced her.
"Samira! You're being rude to your guest, after he came all this way just to call upon you again." scolded her father through grit teeth, glaring at the young woman. Such insolence! No suitor would accept such a vile tongue!
Kadir for his part had to resist the urge to snap back and tell the shahzadi to mind her place. Despite his irritation, Kadir managed to keep his temper in check, smiling pleasantly despite a slight twitch in his eye. "Of course I should have given prior notice, you must forgive me for that Shahzadi." he began, inwardly putting the royal brat in her place. He could worry about her attitude after the wedding. He'd have to tolerate her for now.
Pressing on, Kadir continued, ready to act the perfect gentleman- an ideal suitor.
"I hope you've given some thought to my proposal. I have your father's permission, of course. I am more than able to provide for you, and I'm not a dirty old man like many who would court you. Given time you'd grow to like me I am sure." began Kadir, making his fingers into a tent under his chin.
The only one besides the princess who seemed unimpressed was the djinni sitting beside him. Quirking a brow doubtfully, he scoffed in his mind. This human was full of it. He smelled of too much perfume as well. Was this human really thinking he could act all sweet and perfect? Please. No way would any djinn fall for such nonsence. Nasir glanced from Samira, wondering what she'd do and if she would be suckered into a loveless marriage. Most likely. Stupid humans. He did secretly have to give her credit for being bold enough to disagree.
She glanced at Lord Kadir once more as he spoke. "I apologize Lord Kadir, but it seems your trip was wasted. My response to your proposal is still the same. I can not find it in me to marry a man like you." She told him cooley, knowing this response would anger her father more.
Before she would allow the Shah to scold her again she spoke up. "Papa I do not mean to disrespect you, I think the world of you and you know it. However I will not sit around silently and be forced into a marriage that will have no love in it ever. You loved Mama and she loved you, is it so wrong of me to want the same? I am also looking out for our people. I will not accept a husband unless I am sure he will be as great of a ruler as you are. So please Papa, try and see things from my perspective." She begged the man as she looked at him.
She had yet to touch her food once again. She had no appetite again, she had lost it after learning of Lord Kadir being there. In the back of her mind she knew she would pay for it later, but at the moment she just couldnimg will herself to eat anything.
But still...
Letting out a sigh, the Shah shook his head slowly. "Of course I can appreciate your reasoning. It is not wrong to wish for love, and obviously I desire your happiness." he began softly before pursing his lips. "But surely you shouldn't blow Lord Kadir off so quickly. I am a fair father and will of course allow you to pick from among your suitors. However, keep in mind that you will have to make a decision in your near future. If you continue to reject every offer presented to you, you will leave me with no choice but to choose for you. I intend to see you taken care of before I pass on." Leaning back, the Shah took a drink of water from his goblet, nodding towards Kadir. "Besides, even if you are rejecting his proposal, you must be polite and leave out any harsh thoughts in your heart. Mind your tone when you have guests. He has not dishonored you or done anything wrong, so he is deserving of respect."
Kadir made no comment on the Shah's rebuttal, and he managed not to react to Samira's assurance that his trip was in vain. He wouldn't let it! He needed to continue to impress the Shah and win the hand of this stubborn young woman. Rationalizing with himself that it would all pay off, Kadir slipped into his charming and 'ideal candidate' persona.
"Why such hostility Shahzadi Samira? Surely you can see I am trying to do well in your eyes? I wish you'd give me a chance my dear shahzadi. I know we don't know each other well yet, but I was hoping I might have permission to try and court you." he said, his expression pained and distressed, earning sympathetic or impressed gazes from those in the room, a few guards even nodding in approval. He was quite the patient gentleman.
Suddenly, a grunt could be heard, the guard nearest the arched balcony doorway dropping with a sickening thud to the ground, an arrow impaled through his chest.
The guards scrambled to protect the royals, two more being struck down in a matter of seconds. Kadir cursed, drawing a blade and hurrying to intercept the attackers. Since when did Fida'in attack their targets so boldly?! Kadir narrowly avoided an arrow, approaching Samira. She was his ticket to becoming the great ruler, he wasn't letting some stupid hashshashins take that from him!!
Nasir could see the arrows aiming for the princess, his speed vast exceeding anything a human could move or see. His eyes turned an amber color, standing and waving a hand, letting his wind divert the arrow, only to see a sword-weilding fida'in burst through during the confusion, aiming straight for the princess.
The djinni moved faster than the eye could see, grabbing the wrist of his foe as they raised the blade up for the killing strike. With a forceful yank, he all but threw the would be killer onto Kadir's blade, ignoring the guards as they fought back against the archers.
With the plan ruined, the remaining fida'in who had avoided death or discovery fled.
Kadir spoke again and his words that were dripping honey sounded more like poison to her. How long could he hold up this charming act? She had to break him, make him drop his act for only a moment. Then she could be rid of him.
Before she could respond to Kadir all hell broke loose. She looked frightened as the guard dropped with an arrow in his chest. An attack at this time of day? She quickly scrambled to her feet, she had to get herself to safety. Things happened so quickly, arrows flew past her as her hands went instinctively to cover her head. Kadir was soon there trying to 'protect' her and be the hero. The real hero though was invisible to everyone except her. She watched as Nasir moved at speeds that was hard for her to comprehend, protecting her as he basically threw one of her attackers onto Kadir's blade.
The assassination attempt faild, the rest began to flee. Samira was left standing there, heart racing and mind twirling. She glanced to her father, eyes looking like she was in a trance. "I-I must go to my room now Papa. I feel I'll be safer there with the guards protecting me." She stuttered out, in shock of what had just happened. She didn't wait for her father to dismiss her before leaving to her room. There were many guards that followed her as she had expected.
Once in her room, behind closed doors her hand went to touch the side of her arm. She felt a stinging pain as she removed her hand to see some blood on it. Did an arrow graze her arm? It had to though she didn't remember feeling it. The adrenaline had masked the pain, however now that the adrenaline was wearing off she could feel the cut. She also felt warm and the room was beginning to spin as she stared at the blood on her hand. Had the arrow been poisoned? Before she knew it she collapsed to the ground, vision going black as she fainted.
Kadir clenched his fists, angered he couldn't follow after the princess. He cursed aloud, others in the room mistaking it for concern for the princess and anger at the attackers. He was furious with them, but not for the reasons suspected.
He all but ignored the guards as they helped their fellow fallen comrades, other guards positioning themselves protectively around their Shah.
Nasir had no need to stick around, and promptly followed after Samira. For some reason, he felt just the barest hint of concern for the young royal. It was absurd, of course, but it was there all the same. Assuming the shahzadi was going to simply fret in her room for a while, the djinni went on alert at the sudden smell of blood
And poison.
Cursing softly, he caught Samira before she could fall to the floor, looking over at her arm. He would have to fix her up- after all, should his master die, he would go back into the ring. Nasir held a glowing hand over the wound, the flesh no longer bleeding and mending itself. The skin came together and within minutes looked as healthy as before.
Laying the passed out shahzadi on her bed, Nasir hovered beside the bed as he let his thoughts wander. It was fortunate that her wound was as straight forward as it was. Like all humans and creatures alike, he wasn't gifted in everything- healing being one of his weak spots. He couldn't heal something unless it was new, caused by physical trauma, and he knew what the cause was. Internal injuries and illnesses were beyond him, as was anything he didn't know where it had come from.
More importantly though, why on earth would hashashins attack so boldly and suddenly? He could venture a guess. While the fida'i were able fighters, they were primarily taught to be patient, silent, and cunning. They could lie in wait for days, weeks, even years if need be, hiding in plain sight and even having positions of convenience. These ones must've been physically trained and given education, but when put to the test failed to maintain the patience required of their job. No doubt, their grandmaster would be furious with such a failure. Fida'i didn't even need to kill in order to get what they wished, their mere threat usually enough to make their foes surrender.
In any case, he supposed it was a good thing the fida'i planted (or let in by a traitor) displayed such lack of control and experience. Otherwise, the royals would surely be dead.
When the memories finally came flooding back her eyes widened. She quickly glanced at her arm, but there was nothing there. No blood, no cut, nothing. Confusion crossed over her once more as she was certain she had been cut let alone poisoned. "How am I not dead?" She quietly questioned, trying to make sense of everything.
Another thought quickly crossed her mind as her eyes widened once more. "The Fida'i were so bold to attack in broad daylight, why? Never has this happened before, something is wrong. We may have a traitor in our midst." She reasoned out, trying to figure out who it may be. She skeptically eyed Nasir for a brief moment before realizing that was stupid of her. It couldn't be him, he'd been trapped in the ring for longer than she'd been alive.
"I must inform Papa." She said quickly as she went to get up. This was a mistake, however, as she quickly felt lightheaded. The room spun for a moment as she felt herself begin to fall. She instinctively grabbed onto Nasir, her full body weight crashing into him.
Nasir said nothing as she finally regained consciousness, watching as confusion was replaced by realization. He likewise kept still as she inspected her own arm, looking for what would have been a deadly nick had he not removed it. Silly human was probably doubting she got injured at all. She quickly disproved his thought as she tried to puzzle still being alive. Well, he wasn't about to tell the royal he helped her!
Samira caught on quicker than he would have thought, Nasir nodding as she assessed the situation aloud, her train of thought similar to his own. "Possibly. But even if they were let in, they were foolish to act so out of the norm. A true hashashin would have more discipline than those fida'i displayed. They must have been novices, and obviously performing outside of training is not possible for them. They lack the discipline and patience their kind are expected to have. I have my doubts they'll be allowed to live to repeat the mistake." the djinni mused with a shrug, only to notice the skeptical gaze from Samira. He scowled, growling at the expression on her features.
"What? You dare to think I'm involved or even allied with such pathetic excuses for humans? You insult me!" he hissed, glaring pointedly at his mistress.
Nasir had little chance to continue, the young woman deciding she had to have an audience with her father. Obviously, she was still disoriented, and the result was her grabbing onto him and toppling both djinni and human to the floor. Landing unceremoniously on his rear, Nasir frowned, ears turning red as the shahzadi held onto him for stability. He somehow resisted the urge to throw the woman off of him, snapping at her instead.
"Oy stupid, get off me! Can't even realize you're in no shape to get up? Go lie down or something you dumb princess!"
She was about to move to get off Nasir and apologize to him for what had just happened when he snapped at her first. Anger and frustration with him filled her as her initial reaction was to slap him and that's exactly what she did. The sound almost seemed to echo, but silence didn't follow it for long. "You disrespect me sir! You are continuously cruel to me and there is no reason for it! What have I personally ever done to you other than let you out of the stupid ring? I've also tried to treat you with kindness and I've vowed to find a way to free you from the ring for good! So tell me, what in all of that has caused you to provide all the verbal abuse you give to me? If you really hate me as much as it seems then why not just disappear back into this ring to get away from me? If that's what you wish than go for it, I'm not going to stop you Nasir! I can continue to search for a way to free you without your help so go if you wish!" She angrily said while glaring at him. As she finished she moved to get off of him. She slowly got into her bed, being extra careful now to keep her balance.
After a moment she spoke again. "I did not mean to insult you either. I know you're not an accomplice in what happened today, it was stupid of me to think that way. I apologize for that." She said while not quite looking at him. Instead her gaze was turned to the window as she now fell silent once more.
Staring at her in stunned silence as the sting registered on his cheek, the violet eyes narrowed angrily at Samira. Nasir growled at her scolding, meeting her glare with one of his own even as she turned and distanced herself from him, this time managing to make it to her bed.
The djiini was not about to agree that she had a valid argument. He was rude to her. She had been acting much kinder than any previous master, and she was the first to offer to free him of her own volition. Even so, he was loathe to get his hopes up- not wanting to have such hopes crushed into oblivion once more in the end. Her apology threw him off, his scowl lessening slightly. She was also the only master to ever apologize to him, which further confused and agitated him. What was she playing at? Surely this shahzadi of all people couldn't be this nice and selfless?
"Yeah, sure, all you humans are nice enough at first. Until you find out the extent of my abilities, what I can do for you, and then soon enough such niceties are drained faster than sand in an hourglass. 'Fool me twice, shame on you, fool me three times, shame on me' is how I believe your saying goes?" he said dryly, staring at the princess' back.
"And no way in hell am I going back into that ring. You try being stuck in it for two centuries." Nasir shook his head, not even bothering to comment on his hatred or lack thereof of the shahzadi. Sitting back up to go to his pillow fort, the djinni winced in pain, glaring at his shoulder where Samira's cut now resided. He wasn't in a visible and 'human' form where he would suffer the same physical consequences, so he wouldn't die. However, not being in his full marid form either, he would not heal as rapidly. Stupid poison! He glared defiantly at the still-red cut, as if daring it to even exist.
The truth was she knew why, he'd been used so many times and betrayed trust was not something that came easy to him. This was something she was having a problem with. She was more frustrated with the fact that she didn't know how to earn his trust. Why did she want his trust so bad though? She wasn't entirely sure. Perhaps is was so she'd finally have a friend she in turn could trust. With his trust she felt she could then trust him in return.
There was silence for a long while, many things going through her head. Finally she spoke up. "I get wishes yes?" She questioned, still staring put the window for a moment before turning to look at him. "If so I'm ready to make my first wish." She stared at him for a moment, making sure she had eye contact with him before she continued. She wanted him to know she was serious. "I wish that if I ever betray you, betray your trust I be struck down dead. Whether it be by you or any other force let me die if I ever betray you. Nasir with this wish I promise I will always be loyal to you, I have no ulterior motives. Please grant me this wish." She kept eye contact with him, never faltering. She was completely serious, perhaps this would prove it to him.
The silence didn't carry on as long as he anticipated, the human no longer ignoring him and instead locking her gaze onto his own. The instant she mentioned wishes, his eyes narrowed into slits, a cold resignation in his amethyst eyes. He knew it was coming, but he was oddly disappointed that the niceties didn't last any longer. Of course she'd eventually want something. All humans did. How ironic and pathetic that she would desire something right after trying to convince him that she was different and wished to free him. Hah! A single curt nod met her words, his only acknowledgement that she did in fact get to make wishes. So it began- his servitude finally getting underway.
What kind of wish did she have? More power? Money? Jewels? A visit from a specific noble? Unsurpassed beauty? Nasir folded his arms across his chest, her pause making him even more irate. He wanted to yell at her- tell her to get it over with and not torment him any longer. An eye twitched slightly as he awaited her request.
For the second time in easily less than twenty minutes, the djinni found himself bewildered. What the hell kind of wish was that? And her eyes never strayed from his own- a certain conviction in her gaze that he hadn't seen in any human before.
Torn between astonishment and incredulousness, Nasir simply gaped at the young woman for a few seconds, only to break eye contact- something he never did first. Who the hell was this woman? What kind of trick was this? Was she seriously this nice? Or was it an act? He hadn't encountered a human like her before, and it frustrated him to no end! How did he deal with such a human?! All previous experiences and assumptions kept being thrown out the window one after another.
Finally, he shook his head, eyes once more meeting Samira's. "Stupid...Why would an enslaved djinni be able to do that? I cannot kill any human as I am now, especially not the one I am bound to, so regardless, I am unable to fulfill such a wish." He paused, watching the shahzadi to gauge her reaction. After a moment, the harsh tone was softened, the male aware he was being snippy. "Well, sorry. I can't do that. But...the sentiment is appreciated." he mumbled, avoiding her eyes once more. For some reason, a faint hint of pink colored his ears- nearly earning a growl as he felt the slight increase in heat. The hell was he getting all nice for? How was he even the least bit pleased and thankful? Stupid woman confusing him!
As she fell silent and was about to look away she noticed something on Nasir's arm. From her distance from him it was hard to make put, but after a moment of staring she guessed it was a cut. Had he too been injured in the fight? It took her a moment, but it finally dawned on her. In the process of him healing her he transfered her injuries to himself. Would that mean he transferred the poison as well?
"Nasir!" She almost shouted in shock at this revelation. She jumped up and quickly moved to her vanity. There was a pitcher and a bowl on it which she quickly poured water out of the pitcher into the bowl. There were some clothes beside the bowl for washing her face and she quickly threw one into the bowl. She took another one and tore it into a strip before picking up and smelling a few of the small glass bottles on her vanity.
When she found the one she was looking for she gathered the items before making her way to Nasir. "You didn't just heal my wounds, you transferred them to yourself." She statedrather than asking as she grabbed his arm and began to dab it with the we cloth. When it was clean enough to her satisfaction she grabbed the little glass vial and dropped a few small drops onto the cut. The sweet and calming smell of lavender filled the air around them. "Lavender will help neutralize poison and keep a cut from becoming infected." She informed him as she now took the strip of cloth and tied it around his arm. In her studies she had requested to learn botany and some medicine convincing her father it could be useful in the future.
Once the bandage was secure she stared at it for a moment, her hands lingering there as she became lost in thought for a brief second. "Thank you...for saving my life that is. I owe you greatly for it." She said, still slightly staring as if she was in a trance. Finally she looked back up to him. "Perhaps we should go to the library to see if we can find information on how to free you. Though it may have to be tonight and we'll have to sneak out to it because the guards definitely won't let me go anywhere on my own right now with what just happened." She said while giving him a small smile, a strand of her red hair falling around her face. It had become quite a mess from all of the excitement that day.
Ready to sulk some more and perhaps explain what he couldn't do lest the stupid human ask him for the impossible, Nasir was instead startled by a sudden cry of alarm. Sitting up in expectation of some kind of danger or struggle, he instead found himself accosted by the shahzadi, the young woman carrying a small assortment of items. A bowl of water, two cloths, and a bottle of...something. About to snap at her once more and ask in no polite terms what in the hell she was doing, Nasir went still as she attended to his cut. The very cut he had taken from her.
Violet eyes turned downwards and away from the redhead as she accurately guessed what he had done earlier. It might not have been a question confirming the fact, but he sure as hell wasn't about to admit it to her. "Hmph." he grunted softly, glancing at her efforts out of the corner of his eye before eventually returning his gaze fully. Twice he winced, but no sound or complaint came from his lips, silence lingering even when Samira spoke. Nasir almost gave a wry chuckle when she explained her reasoning for bringing out her lavender, the idea as silly as it was oddly touching. He couldn't remember anyone ever tending to him like this since he was a child. It was kind of nice if he were to be honest with himself.
Flinching ever so slightly at the bandage being tied around his arm, Nasir again said nothing as he focused on the scent of lavender. He didn't use it much himself, but he was familiar enough with the plant. The thanks brought him from his musings, the djinni hesitating slightly before giving a slight nod of acknowledgement. "Hmph. It's fine. Besides, you die, I go back in the ring to await the next person to claim it." he explained, glancing over as the royal attempted to discuss a plan with him. "The choice is yours." he muttered, eyes falling on her mussed up hair.
Nasir straightened, then leaned forward towards Samira, only to blow at her face. It felt like a breeze swept past her head, and her crimson tresses straightened on their own, untangling themselves in seconds and split ends smoothing out. "Birds would've made a nest in there." he said with a smirk.
She was closing bottles and gathering up what she had brought over to attend to Nasir when he leaned forward and blew in her face. She blinked as she stared at him bewildered. When he made mention of her hair looking like a birds nest she quickly touched her red tresses with one hand. It felt so smooth and silky soft she was amazed. For a moment she was at a loss of words, but finally she smirked back at Nasir. "And maggots could have made your injured arm a home if we'd left it unattended." She said smugly as she stood up and went to replace the contents in her arms.
The rest of the day went by uneventfully, her staying in her room mostly because no one came by to bother her. In the evening Zaynab came and brought her some dinner and helped her change into her nightgown. She left and Samira busied herself with this and that as she waited for the night to progress some.
Finally when she decided most everyone was asleep in the palace she stood and looked at Nasir. "Okay let's go to the library now. Is there a way you can sneak us past my guards Nasir? I don't really need them tagging along with us." She asked while looking at him.
He eventually settled for occupying himself by braiding the fringe of a tapestry hanging on her wall, not bothering to care if this would cause her upset or inconvenience.
--
Though Zaynab offered that Samira come have dinner with her father, the young woman turned the request down, sparing them the need to go out. Nasir decided not to harass the old nursemaid this time, and simply smirked when Zaynab inquired about the braided fringe. Once she left, he settled himself in his pillow pile as the shahzadi ate. The djiini himself took to repeatedly tossing and catching a golden cuff he had pilfered from one of her jewelry boxes.
He had tired of his little game by the time Samira decided they were to head to the library, and was more than ready to have something more interesting to do. The royal library huh? He wondered if the palace itself had a library, or if there was a building elsewhere for the collected archives so few of the populace had access to. Her request was once again not phrased as an order, so technically speaking he didn't have to honor it. However, it wasn't one that he opposed, so he decided he could indulge the royal.
"Perhaps." he answered with a smug little smirk, taking her wrist in his hand. "Don't say a word." he ordered, leaving it at that as he gently blew against the door, the 'wind' creaking it open enough for someone to fit through.
Before it could close, he tugged Samira through, right past the two guards assigned to her room during the night. One glanced at the door, then shook his head slightly. "For the shahzadi to forget the latch on her door after what happened..." he muttered, reaching towards the door to instinctively knock and thus gain Samira's attention as he always did should the need to speak with her arise.
"Are you crazy? You want to wake her now of all hours? Let her be, it's why we're here anyways. Tell her or the Shah in the morning." scolded his companion in a harsh whisper.
"Right. Of course." the first guard assented, feeling more than slightly abashed for the near mistake.
Though they ran the risk of bumping into her guards, Nasir managed to keep them just clear of the two men so they went undetected, shaking his head at them as he went. Once they were several yards away, he nodded to the shahzadi, indicating she take the lead now.
As they passed between her two guards, Samira noticed she was holding her breath. Her heart was pounding loudly in her chest and she worried that they would hear it. She was relieved when they didn't, though she panicked a little as one of them appeared to be preparing to knock on her door. She hesitated for a moment, debating if she could dart back into the room fast enough. The crisis was averted, however, as the other guard stopped him.
Nasir soon nodded to her to take the lead so she did. Once they were out of sight and earshot of the guards she returned to breathing normally. "U-um you don't have to keep me invisible anymore. It's not much further to the library from here. I think I can keep myself undetected from here to there." She stuttered out as she gently pulled her wrist away from him. She felt a hint of pink hit her cheeks and she wasn't entirely sure why.
Silently she began heading towards a corridor that went off to the left. As she rounded the corner, however, she ran straight into Kadir. She gasped as she fell backwards, hitting the ground with a thud. "Your Highness what are you doing?" Kadir asked as he looked down at her, offering her a hand to help her up. "And where are your guards?" He asked as he noticed she was alone.
Samira's eyes widened as she looked up at him, her heart now racing. She hesitated, but finally cautiously took his offer to help her up. "I'm only going to the library, I don't need my guards for that." She said matter of factly as she quickly yanked her hand away from him and brushed herself off. If she would have been looking at him rather than making sure her clothes were in order she would have noticed the devious smile cross her face.
"I don't think that's very wise. What would you do if you were to cross paths with someone who wished to do unspeakable things to you?" There was something to the tone of his voice that gave Samira an icy chill. She froze for a moment before looking up at him.
"I-I would find that rather unlikely unless that person was already here in the palace." Her voice faltered for a moment as she slowly took a step away from him. He had a chilling smile on his face as he casually took a step closer to her. She quickly glanced to Nasir as she realized she was in a dangerous situation.
"There's no guards nearby Samira. Are you frightened of me?" He questioned as one of his hands came up to caress her face. Her stomach churned as he did this and she took a few more steps back. He followed right with her, however, and soon her back pressed up against the wall. "Why do you keep denying me Samira? I only wish to love you as a man should love a woman." He said, a smirk on his face as he moved dangerously close to her face.
Before she knew it his lips crashed down onto hers, causing her to let out a muffled scream. She then quickly bit down hard onto one of his lips causing him to quickly pull away. Anger crossed his features as one of his hands went straight to her throat. "You whore. I could kill you right now and frame it on a hashashin." He angrily said as he watched Samira struggle and gasp for breath. She tried her best to put up a fight, one hand fiercely scratching at his face, but she was becoming dizzy quickly.
Now that she wasn't swiftly being ushered out to a meal or to her studies, Nasir decided to better inspect his surroundings as they walked, inwardly commenting on various aspects. So into his appraisal was he that he failed to sense the visiting noble until a mere second before Samira unceremoniously crashed into him, falling to the floor in the process. The sight would have been funny had said visitor not been present.
As it was, Nasir frowned in disgust at the pompous and sneaky man. Another filthy excuse for a human as far as he was concerned. Despite acting like a concerned suitor, Kadir made him think of an adder- an impressive specimen that lies in wait until the perfect moment to strike.
Nasir stiffened upon seeing the devious smirk upon Kadir's face. This snake was getting ready to strike, and who knew what the result would be.
Kadir's implications sent off warning bells in his mind, and the djinni took a step forward, mentally shouting at the shahzadi to realize she was in danger. She realized too late, her back pressed against a wall as Kadir accosted her.
Nasir nearly snarled, thinking the man a complete pig. This piece of shit thought he was worthy of a throne? Preposterous. Even more preposterous in his mind though- was that Samira was never trained to protect herself. Stupid pampered palace idiots didn't teach their women how to fight, only the men. Sure, women were not on the same level in terms physical strength and build as a man- but this was ridiculous. For such a valuable human, the royals didn't equip their women to help them be strong as well. To top it off- the guards were severely lax- complacent after a long period of peace and prosperity.
Deciding to intervene, Nasir focused his magic so his disembodied voice sounded further than it was- like an approaching patrol.
"Who's there?" Hell, maybe one of the guards posted outside Samira's room would come investigate as well.
Kadir let out an annoyed hiss, glaring at the royal before him. He couldn't deny that her body was appealing to him, but even more than her beauty -he craved the power marrying her would bring. At least he had gotten to touch her and steal her first kiss. That would have to hold him for now. Leaning in so his lips were mere inches from her ear, he spoke in a fierce whisper.
"Mark my words shahzadi, when I am shah, you will regret defying me so." he sneered, only to all but throw her away from him as he walked away, not even looking back. He moved swiftly, already preparing an excuse should he run into an errant guard on his way back to his guest chambers.
