Introduction
"You are always bored. Why not enjoy the peace and Order of Chaos? Too soon, the humans will attempt to summon us yet again." Anneteris responded
The aura of Lakonius hummed and shifted colors to purple and blue. "Unlike you, I find humans to be a pleasant distraction. They are so... illogical. Its delicious!"
"No wonder you are one of their most beloved gods." Another spirit chimed in.
Lakonius turned black and red with rage. "That was long before the onset of Christianity. Those Hebrew and their monotheistic views really damaged the faith of the people. Seeking to summon us is considered sinful and pagan nowadays. You all would know this if you visited their world every so often. Last time I did, however, I was killed for having fun. Anneteris, it seems like your perfect, orderly world is almost here. Though Christians are still somewhat within my realm of insanity. They just don't see it." The aura pulsed back to blue.
Anneteris was not amused. "How could such a foolish entity be born of our great father?"
Lakonius simply snapped back, "For balance to exist, there must be Madness to your Order. For Order is only defined by its opposite force. How would you know Order without first knowing what is Mad? In any case, I am bored here. Chaos is not for us to live in indefinitely. At most, it is a place to recuperate, but the world is much more fun. However, the human world has grown dull... Perhaps..." Here Lakonius burst into a shower of radiant gold.
"Oh dear..."
"Something stupid is coming..."
"Wonderful, he's had another plan. Leave me out of this one!"
Lakonius reconstituted his essence and then proclaimed, "A child of Chaos created the human world, why can't I create my own world? At the very least, it would give me something to do!" Lakonius then cleaved the very fabric of Chaos, forming a parallel universe to the human world. Infinite universes existed in parallel to the human universe, and each had its own spirits. But Lakonius wished a world for himself.
While matter is malleable, there are certain restrictions to its use. Lakonius formed a world, and named the land Gaia Xaotika, "Chaotic Earth." Wanting to have some uniqueness to his world, Lakonius formed several new elements, which gave unique properties to the features of his world.
He created a valley surrounded by steep mountains. In the center of the valley was a large lake that produced all water for the mainland. To escape its confinement in the valley, the water would rise up the mountains, and then pour down as rivers to form lakes and eventually reach the oceans.
Lakonius created a vast plain, and infused in the rock a high concentration of his new elements. Large chunks of rock and earth lifted up, creating floating islands over the Plain.
Feeling whimsical, The God fused light to plant-life, and populated a fertile patch of land with his magnificent creations. This forest showed the light, fun side of madness. However, the God became displeased with the other spirits, particularly Anneteris. In a fit of rage, Lakonius created the Mushroom Trees. On the surface, they were as whimsical as the rest of the forest. But down below, they leaked a virulent poison, and their roots created caverns where the poison could pool and coalesce. Bright blue, glowing crystals and liquid pools of poison rotted the land and minds of creatures below, creating a deranged, subterranean world. In the deepest caverns, the poison condensed into red, root-like structures, and the oldest toxins became black crystals.
Feeling sadistic, the God created monstrous creatures. They were large, with many fins and legs, and preferred the hottest climate. They reproduced frequently, and soon created a vast desert, which in reality was a giant nest.
Lakonius was pleased, but now he needed subjects to fill his world. He would travel through the many dimensions and find the most insane beings to bring to his world, which would serve as a refuge for those who did not fit in with societal norms. Bringing together the ambient matter, Lakonius formed a young body, fit and as ghostly pale as moonlight, and walked about the land, enjoying all he had created.

The Story
The God was now surveying the Ephemeral Plains. He enjoyed this area, as its inhabitants clearly showed the differing mental states. Lakonius took a deep breath, but then froze mid-step. Looking up at the settlement the people had named Drakonyl, Lakonius was certain he sensed another spirit. Yes... the energy was annoyingly familiar. Lakonius focused, and felt his physical body break apart into a swarm of bats. The god flew high in the sky, seeking the energy signature's location. Lakonius finally found it, and swooped down.
On the small island, Lakonius saw who he was expecting.
"Well, well.... Anneteris. What brings you to my mad little world?" Lakonius smiled at the beautiful form the Goddess of Order had chosen.

"... I thought I smelled a few flying weasels nearby..." She said calmly.
She took a sip of tea from a cup she was holding in her right hand and set the cup down upon finishing.
She looked up to the sky and to Lakonius's batty form.
"Are you proud of what you have brought unto this innocent world? Because of your 'boredom' with the old world, your fascination with chaos has produced a people who starve for balance in their lives and who live every day with fear and regret in this world you have created! You really have gone too far in this Lakonius!" She yelled up to the swarm of flying rats.
Instead of being upset, Lakonius simply laughed and said, "Charming as always, my dear Anneteris. You do not have much experience with my world it seems. Do you think these are the only towns? Of course not! There are several others, and all are happy as an oyster at the bottom of a glass of wine! The people of Drakonyl are very balanced, too balanced for my taste. I suppose I can let you have them. Just treat them nicely! Like a mother hen with her flock little mother hens! I will admit that the people in Steinleifr are quite down on their luck, but I really do not understand what is keeping them here... They can move on to other places you know! As for Asteryllis, they are as happy and deranged as could be! Apparently, they have quite a good time abusing the elements I created for this world!
Oh, but to answer your original question, I am quite proud of myself. This world may have some flaws, but I blame those on you and the others for putting me in a bad mood. Anyway, it is a better world than any you could have created. Come now Anneteris, you do not have the imagination for such a task! Life is not ordered, life is MAD! Insane to the very core!"
Lakonius paused for a moment, and then turned very serious. "In any case, the world is formed and populated. So, my dear rival, what do you plan on doing to my sanctum? What is your purpose in my world? Surely you would not destroy all the life that I have created and brought here? Even though I brought this world and all its creatures to being, they are still living, and no longer under my control. They have free will, and would you really be so cruel as to wipe away these souls?"
The setting changes from Abode of Anneteris to Sandwraith Desert
The sands shifted in impossible patterns around her, seeming to follow none of the laws that governed those places with even the slightest bit of order. Individual grains just winked in and out of existence as they pleased, at random intervals. If she gave it enough time, she would probably find a moment wherein there was literally no sand in the desert, but she wasn't all that interested, truth be told. One of those side-effects of being the only thing in any universe that was Always and Everywhere, though most of the Spirits came close and could probably manage it if they had to.
Deciding she might as well get on with it, Death stood and hefted her scythe, which really a woman of her stature should not have been able to do, and struck the body squarely in the chest with the end of the haft. Taking a step back, she waited. Sure enough, the man's soul, which looked very much like the man himself (though this was not always the case, it was the general rule), sat up and out of its body, rubbing an incorporeal head with an equally tangible hand, muttering something about flying gremlins or something.
Eventually, he caught sight of Death, though in truth she didn't take him to be one of the brighter ones (he had attacked the gremlins, not the other way around, she knew). Her suspicions were only confirmed when he blinked stupidly at her and asked if she had seen his axe.
There were two things she could do here: either Death could try and convince him logically that she was what she said she was, or she could use the Voice. The first was unlikely to happen in any short amount of time, and though Death was patient enough to wait for anyone, she really didn't feel like beating around the bush today, to use the human idiom.
Fine. She never really liked using the voice; it was one of those things that reminded her how irritating her job could be. It wasn't exactly the sort of thing you could use for everyday conversation. The Voice of Death was an absolute proclamation, capable of telling only the truth and forcing someone to believe it. Too much coercion, really, but what could you do?
Fixing the man with a look, as if to give him one last chance to get the hint, Death sighed again and spoke. "Thou hast been divested of thy mortal coil. Relinquish thine attachments to the world and follow." For some reason, the voice also only worked in a butchered version of Old English (and had since before Old English actually existed), though everyone and everything understood it just fine. The man blinked again, then nodded as if to himself and stood.
"Hm. Shame, that. I was hoping I'd last a bit longer this time, but I suppose that's what you get when you try to kill gremlins after only a year of training." Death ignored his useless rambling and leveled her scythe in the air, tearing a hole in dimensions so that she might access whatever leaky sieve served as an underworld in this place.

"Indeed, you are correct. I could not bring myself to destroy all of these innocent souls that inhabit your world. But I see what you are trying to do 'O God of Madness'," she mocked, "and I'm afraid that it won't work."
She sat down and took another sip of her tea before letting out a delicate sigh.
"For an immortal, you can be quite immature. Do not try and blame your blunders on me and the other immortals. You said it yourself, bad mood or not, it was by your hand that this world was created. Any faults that lie within are entirely for you to answer for, not me."
She took a final sip of tea and set her cup down once more.
Around her were a variety of small birds and insects enjoying the small paradise that was her floating island. A small Dragon landed nearby, watching her and enjoying the sun on its perch as it put its head down to rest.
"And it seems that you are as childish as I remember as well. Though it has been well over three hundred years since our last face to face encounter, you still claim that life is mad. You know full well, though you're too proud to admit it, that in order for life to exist at all, there must be balance. Yes, in a perfectly balanced world, there are elements of chaos, and I accept that. But your view pushes that level of chaos to an extreme, and I will not stand for it."
She picked up her cup and held it balanced in the palm of her hand.
"Life is like this cup. Balanced when all is right, but this is the world in accordance with your view."
Her eyes changed from blue to a glowing red and the cup shattered in her hand. All the birds, insects and even the small Dragon perched nearby all disappeared as her power fluctuated causing a small shock wave. She cast her gaze up, and glared down the God of Madness with her eyes still glowing red.
"Your twisted view of madness in life will destroy what balance is needed to sustain a natural existence. And I warn you, God of Madness: whatever you did when you created this world that upset the balance, I will seek out and restore. Any lives that are twisted because of you and your views, I will put an end to. The mortals of this world who worship me view me as their Divine and Benevolent Shepherdess, but I am no such benevolent being as you know very well. I will not be afraid of you nor your followers, and whenever I find such a being who holds your chaotic and mad views as their own, I will put an end to their twisted existence and restore a little more balance to this world in the process."
Her eyes stopped glowing and returned to their natural blue tint as she leaned back in her chair.
"Now... my child." She said with a kind and gentle smile.
"Be so kind as to remove your stained person from my abode. If you do not leave on your own, I WILL remove you by force."
She held out her hand and looked to her shattered cup. Her eyes flashed white and the cups shattered remains returned to her hand and reformed into the whole cup it had been before, filled to the brim with hot tea.
She took a sip and held the cup in a mock toast to the God of Madness as she closed her eyes and resumed drinking her tea, and the birds and insects began to return around her as her power had since settled.
"Come now Anneteris, there is no need to be so hostile! Besides, the fatal flaw in your plan is that if you destroy all who follow my madness, then you will simply have those who follow your order. Where is the balance in that? Even if you killed all my followers, Gaia Xaotika will still exist. This world's very existence breaks laws of order you so love! And how do you suppose I created this world? Father allowed me to, he helped me. For what purpose, I know not, but if he did not wish this world to exist, he would have stopped me."
Lakonius stopped speaking and looked towards the desert. He sensed another spirit. He looked over to Anneteris briefly, raising an eyebrow. She must have sensed the presence as well. Lakonius was bored with Anneteris, as she was not as friendly as he himself, and she did just tell him to leave. Lakonius finally gave Anneteris a fanged smile, and transformed into a large, golden dragon. He swept his powerful wings, producing massive wind that ruffled Anneteris' dress, and caused her precious tea to spill. As predicted, she kept to physical laws. With a rumbling laugh at his latest mischief, Lakonius took to the skies, angling his flight toward the new spirit.
"Enjoy your games while able God of Madness. One day soon they will come to an end. I guarantee it." She said quietly after him.
Even though he was leaving she knew he could hear her words, since they had the ability to communicate telepathically.
She refilled her cup and went back to sipping her tea.

"Yeah, sure," nodded the man, whose name she knew to be Genghis Khan, or rather that was what he went by. Apparently, he'd been ripped from the planet Earth, in a parallel dimension to this one. Death knew this, too, but she had been told once that it was polite to listen even when people were parroting information needlessly. He'd regaled her with the story of his conquest of the Asian Steppes, but by this point even Death's legendary patience was wearing thin. "How long do you think I'll be in this time?"
"'Tis not for I to say," she replied noncommittally. "If you really wish to know, ask Lakonius next time you see him. Or Dionysus, or Zarathustra, or whichever one you call him." Death tended to default to Dionysus, but there was no particular rationale behind this choice save for her own lack of preference. It wasn't like most of those upper-tier gods bothered much with her, anyway. She dealt more with the fledgling ones who liked to micromanage their worlds and would occasionally intercede for a particular mortal they liked, or try to anyway. It rarely worked, and they always had to give Death something in return. It was how she'd obtained both the Voice of the Absolute and the Red String of Fate, actually; the first off a major servant of the Christian deity (one of the more meddlesome types who had re-appropriated itself to a new belief system and gone with it) and the second from Cosmos herself. That one had been quite the bargain; even Spirits had to abide by its restrictions, though she could not always control what those were. Anything to stop gods from thinking they could just bully her as they pleased, anyway.
This answer seemed to satisfy the Khan, for he nodded. Death returned the gesture, and her form shimmered for a moment, resolving into the image of a woman rather similar in type to the man himself. His mother, if she had to guess. The warrior types often had a weakness for their mothers, though she could not understand why. Death in this guise smiled softly, gesturing once more to the rift. Nothing more was said, for nothing more was needed, and Genghis stepped through the portal.
Closing it behind him, Death changed again, assuming the form of a large cat, striped black and red. Her claws assumed the same red, diamondlike quality of her scythe, and the string wound itself about a foreleg. Without so much as a sound, Death turned north, headed for one of the many villages on this world. Her work never stopped, but here and now, she would take the long way.
"My, this day is full of surprises!come now, revert to your human shape so we may speak properly!" Of course, Lakonius could have communicated with Death mentally, but the mischievous god had reasons for asking her to change to her human form.

As it has been for what seemed to be an indefinite amount of time, Vier was, how humans put it, bored. The Worlds were not as they used to be, and she was now stranded in an endless desert, esapes from said place impossible to find unless she traveled back to the Underworld. The sand closed around her feet as she stood on a high bank, the wind pushing the grains around anything blocking its path. Sighing contently at the silence around her, the demon spun, stopping whereever she felt was right. Once her head cleared of dizziness, she started forward in search of other life.
When the demon walked for just over a mile, she stopped where she was and slowed her heart rate. The change into a large demonic hellhound took a fraction of a second. Her pale fur glistened and settled into its normal state. When everything seemed to be in its place, Vier started off again, her pace quicker and her senses heightened. Hearing voices farther along the unknown path, she followed swiftly but silently. She halted at the top of a bank, peering over the top to look at the pair below. What a strange couple this is, Vier thought to herself as she eyed them, her eyes glowing with curiosity. A massive dragon with golden scales flew up behind a rather large black and red cat-beast, transforming into a human as he landed. Gods or demons, she presumed. Perhaps, she said to her mind as she watched the transformation, perhaps they require some help...
Vier decided to keep to her perch for now, watching the conversation below take place. She rotated her ears toward the couple, straining to hear a sound.
"My, this day is full of surprises! Come now, revert to your human shape so we may speak properly!" said the dragon-human. This indicated to the demon the other spirit below must be transforming soon. Silently, she lay down to rest her paws and watched the events unfold.

But no matter how much times the other gigantic city asked for their people to interlope, Xanix refused. Worshiping a goddess from another religion was forbidden in his eyes. Their Lord was the only one they'd bow down to which sent some waves across the plains. Though she was no their God, they respected her. They respected how she tries to dwell the rise in murder and mayhem that was so frequent in this land. They didn't need to combine with them though. Their lands were fertile, their water was clean and everything else they needed they just traded. Life was fair.
Xanix continued to walk towards the stables where they kept their...animals. Once entering this dimension, Xanix found nothing that even resembled horses, but quickly began to train the animals that were here. Vargr's, Wyverns, and even had a few dragons, though never used them for person use. He slowly got up on his favorite Vargr and settled in. He then began to trot the animal out of the castle, upon the road towards their sister city to do his diplomatic duties.

Nevertheless, she obliged, standing on her powerful hind legs even as her fur receded into her skin and the rest of her gradually morphed back into something resembling a human. Her ears, tail, teeth, and eyes lingered longer than the rest; for Death, something as commonplace as transformation was something of an art form, and where it was an ugly process of utility for some others, she had been at it long enough that she could alter even small parts of herself alone.
Waving a hand in a seemingly careless gesture, Death summoned her scythe. Propping the haft of the thing against her collarbone and the back part of the blade over her shoulder, Death quirked an eyebrow. "Dionysus," she greeted evenly. "Or is it Lakonius today?" Her eyes flicked to where a hellhound was watching them, but she said and did nothing. Truthfully, she had no idea what the God of Madness wished of her; it was not often any Spirit sought her out.
"Maura! Its good to see you lass! And to answer your question, in my world, I go by my true name of Lakonius. Though I do also like the human-given name of Dionysus!"
The god finally released Maura, observing her dark appearance.
"Grim and foreboding as always? I like it! Oh, but what brings you to my mad world? surely you aren't," Here Lakonius paused to cringe, "Working?"
Seeing Maura was an unexpected pleasure for Lakonius, as he always found her to be one of the more interesting, and ironically, one of the more lively of the spirits. Though to describe her as a spirit was perhaps not accurate. Maura was more like a force, as she was everywhere and always, since the first mortals. To be honest, Lakonius was somewhat surprised to see her here, as he designed his world so that Maura would not be needed. After all, her job was annoying enough without having to cater to the mad world of a mad god... Oh wait, she already did that. But she didn't need another world. The only way beings could permanently die in the world of madness was if they desired a true death. Then, Lakonius would arrive and strike them down with his magic blade, and their bodies would become another part of his world, and their souls would be added to the world's life-force. So her presence was rather.... confusing. He did not know Maura to be one to take vacations.
"Always," she replied evenly, both to his comment about her wardrobe and also her present occupation. "While the assignation of mortals to the Beyond here is not permanent, it seems it must still be conducted. Truthfully, I had rather hoped to find something else to do, but it seems that Death is never the occupation one should be in if one wishes to develop hobbies." Her delivery was so flat that it was almost impossible to tell she was joking, but she actually was. Few people tended to appreciate Death's humor, but then she always held out hope that someone might, and Lakonius seemed as likely an option as any.
"I don't suppose you could invent an automated underworld-transferal system?" A slight quirk of an eyebrow, but it disappeared quickly, and a red gaze swept the strange desert expanse before them. "I must admit to being curious about this world of yours. I would perhaps ask you to explain it, but this would be asking for something ordered to come of something chaotic, yes?"
"Death with hobbies! Now there's a mad idea! And since this is the world of madness, I don't see why it can't happen!"
Changing tone, Lakonius continued, "And yes, you are quite right. Trying to explain this world would be quite impossible. There are many surprises to defy laws of logic and order. Even I don't know all of them! An automatic system you say? Yes... I believe it can be done. May I examine your wonderful little scythe for a moment?"
Lakonius held out his hand, examining Maura's features. There was something morbidly adorable about her emotionless face and gloomy appearance. Lakonius felt more people should be like Maura. This thought gave the god pause. More people should be like death? How hilarious! But in all honesty, the other spirits, thinking themselves to be perfect beings, have allowed their existence to stagnate. They were DULL! BORING! Maura, perhaps because she dealt with mortals, had managed to retain her own unique personality, and Lakonius had always felt a connection with her.
After all, did Madness not occasionally bring about Death? And Did Death not invite the Madness of mourners?
Still, it would perhaps be nice to inhabit a world where she was not always so necessary... and Lakonius was one of the few people who actually bothered showing her any form of kindness, in that he used her name rather than her title, something not even she could truly bring herself to do.
"Very well," she replied evenly, handing him the weapon. She had been told that it was a rather unwieldy thing for any but herself, since the power of Death was meant to belong to her alone, but then perhaps that was only fitting. It certainly did not make the thing impossible to use for one such as Lakonius. Before he could actually do anything with it, though, she removed the red string of Fate from her wrist and looped it onto the scythe. "Sorry," she offered, though she didn't sound all that apologetic. "After what happened last time, I do like to make sure that what is mine remains mine." The string would ensure that the scythe found its way back to Death once she wished it to, since it was her destiny to wield it in the first place. Lakonius did not seem the type to outright steal it, but one never really knew with Spirits of Chaos.
"Well, that felt profoundly... unusual. But I now understand the inner workings of your own power. Lets see..."
Lakonius scooped up a handful of sand, and closed his eyes. When he opened them again, he and the sand burned a fierce gold. Turning away from Maura, Lakonius blew on the glowing sand, and it erupted from his hand in a radiant cloud. Space and time warped and twisted around the cloud, and the sky slowly changed. Purples, greens, red, blues, and yellows now filled the skies.
"There, it has been done. I have infused the very atmosphere of this world with the powers of the scythe to open rifts into new dimensions. The alteration is very specific; only newly dead souls will be affected. They will be pulled into this world's version of the afterlife, which, if you have never visited, is a land filled with sugary treats. For some reason, souls go slowly mad in that world, and find themselves back here. Perhaps I should have made it so they cannot gain weight or have their teeth decay should they eat too much at once. Oh, there is one soul who refuses to be resurrected. A former Roman hedonist, quite a terrible sight. He attempts to eat even other souls. Its disgusting. Anyway, you are all set, no more need for you to shepherd lost little souls, they will go automatically. Perhaps now you can pick up some of those hobbies you mentioned earlier!"
Lakonius gave Maura a toothy grin that showed his fangs. He liked the fangs.
The God of Madness then proceeded to barrel through an explanation of exactly what he had done, and Death looked about her curiously. The world itself did not look any different in the aftermath of that exercise, and yet... she felt very different indeed. As though some burdensome weight had been lifted from her, or perhaps the weight had been inside her, and was now scraped out, leaving her rather hollow.
The question now became: what to fill the emptiness with? It was not one she was used to having a choice about, and she found herself returning Lakonius's feral grin with a small smile of her own, which, granted, was not particularly obvious but for her at least did qualify as most strange. She bowed her head. "I thank you. Though, I must admit... now that I can decide what to do, I'm afraid I have no idea of where to even begin." What sort of hobbies did one pick up around this place, anyway? Maybe she should go force that Roman Hedonist back to life... was that too similar to her job to count?
Lakonius could not help but chuckle at the thought of the riots that would follow the change in the sky.
"Here's an idea! I have never seen anyone, spirit or mortal, not enjoy themselves in a land full of sweets. Care to visit the underworld with me? "
"That sounds like an idea," she agreed, both in response to his suggestion about a new way to occupy her time, and the considerably more lighthearted one about the Underworld. Placing the Sting back about her wrist, Death swung her scythe in a graceful arc, rending space-time so as to grant them access to the Beyond. Smiling ironically, she spoke again. "This is the part where I'd have to convince you that I am what I say I am, then I'd show you what you most wished to see before you went in there... but of course, we will be returning." She did not add that she had no idea what Lakonius most wanted to see; that was part of the knowledge she carried about mortals that simply did not apply to those who need not remain where she sent them for any longer than they wished.
"After you."

The setting changes from Gaia Xaotika- Underworld to Sandwraith Desert
As the conversation went on below her, Vier's body willed her more and more to leave. Though her physical body was telling her to vanish, her mind convinced her to stay. Listening to her brain, she peered over the hill at the couple and watched as the scythe was passed on to Death's companion. As people say, there is a first for everything, but for the demon, this was too many 'firsts' for her. She lifted herself, ready to run, when she glanced back one more time. The sky erupted into shades of color she could not fathom, and the scythe-wielder had a massive grin on his face. She listened closely as the spirit explained what the color was and it soon became clear to her that this other spirit was a God. Not only a God, but the God that just so happened to run this world. Madness, Literally.
When the colors reached their full palette, the scythe was passed back to Death. After a brief but engaging conversation, the Spirit opened a crack in the universe. The God stepped through willingly, as though he was waiting for this day since the beginning of his time (which everyone knows is quite the time to wait). Hesitating only for a brief moment, Vier summoned every inkling of courage she could find in herself and started off toward the remaining spirit.
"Wait!" the demon called from the top of the hill. Her transformation from hellhound to human-form was an awkward sight to behold, as she was barreling down a mountain of sand while doing so. She skidded to a halt in front of the Spirit of Death and warily looked up at her. "Please, wait. I need to return to the Underworld, yet don't have the power to do so at the moment. Please, let me go through. I will serve you for however long you need if you wish, if you can take be back now. I'll be out of your way as soon as I step through." Her words came out faster than a trophy winning racehorse as she tried to explain herself to Death. "I have to apologize for spying. I...you were the first life,or entity I should say, that I have come across in over a week. If I had known you were, well, you, I wouldn't have done such a thing." The demon huffed out a breath and looked into the Spirit's eyes hopefully.

Nevertheless, his cheer was rather infectious, and she could not linger too long in the mental space of pointing out the obvious. She was just about to step through when the demon hound finally revealed herself, and Death stood by patiently as she rushed through her request. It was the usual: do something for me and have my servitude for however long, et cetera, et cetera. She was bound not to take such offers, since that would be placing one mortal in a unique position as opposed to others, which her doctrine of neutrality expressly forbid. When Death did someone a favor, she did it not for incentive.
Still, how exactly she was going to fulfill this one without overstepping any of her bounds was going to be a challenge. She was not supposed to be in the business of inter-dimensional travel, at least not of the non-final variety. She was fairly certain there was nothing in the rules of this world (such as they were) to prohibit it, but she was not bound by the rules of this world alone. No one dimension governed Death's doings, but rather a code disparate from all of them.
There was the matter of what this woman was to be considered, however. Demons did technically belong in Underworlds, and Lakonius's happened to be the closest Underworld available. While demon-hunting or control was not within her purview, surely the use of her power for such an end would not be considered overstepping her bounds? "I doubt very much that this particular Underworld is the one you are seeking," she replied, regarding the ruffled-looking demon steadily, "but I can allow you to pass, though I may not make any new portal for you, I think. This world is chaotic enough that you may find what you are looking for within, but I cannot guarantee it. Perhaps Lakonius might, if you were to ask." She lifted one shoulder in a nonchalant shrug, and gestured for the demon too to make her way through the portal. Death followed, and the rift closed behind her.
Once they were through, Death raised a pale arm and pointed at the God of Madness, presently engaged enjoying his own creation. "That is he, if you wish to inquire." With that, she moved away from the demon, expecting no further acknowledgment. Instead, she plucked a blade of grass from the ground and licked it. Spun sugar, and purple to boot. Death had a fondness for purple things, and green ones too, when it came to that.
"Your world is rather delicious," she told Lakonius in an offhand tone, as though she were discussing a rather ordinary circumstance of weather phenomena.

"You can thank humanity for this one. They created the treats, I simply produced them in infinite quantities here. But, I see what you mean, very tasty. Now then who wants to ask me what?"
Lakonius sat on what appeared to be a rock, but was in reality a large caramel. He looked at the strange creature that followed Maura through, and waited for it to state its business.

Vier's eyes widened at the colorful sights around her. The grass beneath her feet was in fact, not grass at all, but sugar and other various candies. Confused yet slightly content at the sight of this 'Underworld,' the demon spun herself around, stopping when she spotted the God. Lakonius.
"Sir," she said quitely, nodding in respect to the higher power. "I'm terribly sorry for the intrusion, but I had no other way back. Your friend here, Death, allowed me to pass through, to which I am eternally grateful." She took a quick glance at the other woman, who was eating a blade of grass. Vier chuckled to herself, amused at the sight of Death eating a piece of candy. Sighing, she turned back to Lakonius. "I was due back to the Underworld twelve hours ago but couldn't find my way out of the desert, and had not enough energy to create a portal. I just finished a, job I'll say, for an allying demon, and I need to report. If it's no trouble, could you point me in the right direction?" She looked around the candy-filled area once more, taking everything in silently. Bending down, the demon picked a four-leaf clover and eyed it carefully. The blades were pure sugar. She ate the plant swiftly and stood back up. "I assume you understand when I say this isn't the Underworld I was expecting." Shyly, she gave a smile to the God and knelt down on the grass.

She listened halfheartedly to the exchange between the demon and the God. So the hound had to report somewhere, was it? Death certainly hoped there were portals to other worlds to be found here; her own regulations forbid her from opening another unless there was a specific purpose behind it. Then again, a realm of chaos might well have random portals in its underworld, who could say?
Vanishing her scythe for the moment, Death wandered about the Underworld, fingers laced together behind her back, regarding everything as a curious child might. She had not been lying when she said the world was delicious, but she was going to pick and choose her indulgences carefully. Neutrality and all that- neither to excess nor to deprivation.

"All worlds are connected by Chaos, the originator of all. This Underworld connects to all the others. And so, summoning a portal in this realm is quite easy to do, when you understand the ebb and flow of dimensions. I will allow you to enter the world you want, on one condition; Tell me what your purpose in my world was. Oh, and tell me what you think of my world as well. I do love feedback!"
Lakonius smiled and finished his candy apple. He loved acting tough sometimes.

When she accepted the assignment, she knew she would have to trick her superior into thinking she carried out orders without fail. The demon set up a diversion for her target and faked the man's death. It was the only way she would be able to keep to her own beliefs without being punished. Hopefully this will work, she thought to herself desperately. Without giving the God a chance to answer, she jumped into the second question.
"On the other hand, I do love your world, Lakonius. It is quite the beautiful place, despite the lack of living and non-living things in some parts. The desert for one," she joked, letting out a short, nervous laugh.

Lakonius focused momentarily, and then a portal materialized. Lakonius gestured with a slight bow. Noticing there was a flower in front of his face, he stooped lower and bit it off its stem, and then sucked on the stem itself. He loved this world.

After much exploration, Death had manged to find a stand of what appeared to be trees with chocolate leaves, the flakes so thin they melted on the tongue. The slightly minty flavor was a nice touch, too. Death was rather fond of chocolate, all things considered. Plucking a few of the leaves, she placed them into a convenient basket which had appeared at her whim, stepping onto her tiptoes to reach them. She had not yet realized it, but a small smile had sneaked its way onto her face, and her humming had evolved into a much happier cadence generally. Was this what people could do with free time, then? Explore things properly instead of always being the world's worst tourist? Slow down and savor things? It was quite a foreign thought, but she rather liked it.
She made her way back over to Lakonius and the demon, offering her basket of chocolate leaves to each of them in turn, before examining the portal. Ah, yes, that looked like Hell, all right, and her nose crinkled in distaste. Really... some people were so overdramatic with their eternal scenes of torture and malice.

After taking a small piece of chocolate from Death, the demon faced the portal directly, embracing the heat that wafted out of the crack. A sickly gray-green mist surrounded her feet, indicating to her this was in fact the right place. Her body shivered, and she looked back at the God. "I long to stay here, but if I do, I fear I will bring more pain to your world. I shall visit when I am able, without hesitation." She stepped through the crack and the darkness surrounded her. Her new comrades disappeared, the mist eating away any sign of the portal. She walked along the dirty, diseased path toward the smell of destruction and pain, the smell which raided her nostrils for more than one lifetime. Showing her hellhound-self once again, she set off running, wanting the job to be done and over with as quickly as possible, so that one day she may get back to Lakonius' creation.

"What an interesting creature. I do hope she returns soon. Now then, Maura, is there anywhere else you would like to visit? Ah, you may be aware of this, but Old Lady Anneteris is here as well. She set up a nice little home in the Ephemeral plains. Took me by surprise actually. Apparently, She doesn't want to leave this world alone, as she disagrees with the very premise for its existence."
Lakonius observed Maura for a moment before continuing, "Apparently, this world agrees with you. I have never seen you this happy before."

"Anneteris is here as well? It must be difficult for her, to sustain herself in such a chaotic world. Perhaps we should bring her some chocolate leaves, don't you think?" It might surprise people, but despite her job, Death was mostly a generous soul. Maybe it was simply because she never really got the chance to give anyone anything that she seized upon such opportunities when they presented themselves.

Taking one last glance around the Underworld, Death fixed an image of it in her eternal memory (just in case she never did get to visit again), shrugged slightly, and stepped through the dimensional rift.
The setting changes from Gaia Xaotika- Underworld to Abode of Anneteris
"It is good to see you again Anneteris! I return with gifts, courtesy of Maura. So, you should thank her!"
The letter she carried was made of thin, delicate gold and sealed with wax with Satan’s ring imprint. It read Lakonius in thin intricate letters on the front. Cailin had already tried numerous times, while lounging at the coffee shop earlier, to open this letter, apparently it was enchanted. Satan was clever like that. Also, she assumed he was beginning to toy with her powers, making things rather difficult. She was not surprised, it was kind of his thing.
Normally she would have conjured herself to appear within feet from where she needed to be, she now found herself almost a football field length away from a little cottage. Assuming this Lakonius god would be in that cottage, she tested her powers again and failed, thus forcing her to walk the distance. Her designer heels were not made for walking in these conditions. But they did fair pretty well when club hopping in New York City.
With many curses and grumbles and almost spilling her drink, she finally made it to the house’s door step. The devil didn’t enlighten her on what exactly this little mission was about, just casually stated that the letter would explain everything. Taking his coy attitude, this would likely not be ideal for Cailin. The sooner she got back to New York the better. Straightening her fitted jacket, she looked at the door knocker, as her hands were full, and much to her delight it actually knocked.
She waited not so patiently for someone to answer, tapping her heels ever so softly. “Hello?”, she called and listened. “I have a letter from.. Eh… Lucifer.” She was never sure how certain beings addressed him, so she decided to use his formal, but not so formal name.
"You have some nerve coming to my abode twice unannounced and uninvited. Deity or not, you will never trespass on my home again Lakonius. Do you understand me?" She asked calmly.
Anneteris was known amongst the deities of the universe as a benevolent and calm figure, but all knew how powerful she was. Whether calm or angry, her powers were always a constant, but the way she used them made them seem much more destructive when she was upset.
In all the time she had existed in creation, Anneteris had never attacked another deity, save one. The individual deity in question was none other than Lakonius himself. Though he deserved it completely, it was that attack that sparked the tremendous grudge and constant struggle that endures to this day. Anneteris was sickening of it, but Lakonius, being the God of Madness, delighted in the conflict and what it wrought on the mortals of the world around them.
Since then, Anneteris had never attacked another deity, but was coming dangerously close every time Lakonius showed himself to her. how much longer she could restrain herself was unknown to her, especially with the way he treated her and her privacy... not to mention her home.
"I command you to leave my home at once Lakonius. You know that I have no interest in conversing with you this day. Now begone you troublesome child!" She snapped.
The smile disappeared from her face as Death stepped between the two gods. As it turned out, she had nothing to fear from either of them, as she was somehow (don't ask her how, as it is a rather convoluted story) necessary to both Order and Chaos. Go figure. "Anneteris, I am the one at fault here, not Lakonius. I asked to visit you, since I believed that attempting to exist in such a chaotic world as this one might be putting some strain on you. If you would prefer we leave, that is of course your right, and I cannot demand otherwise."
Shrugging, Death placed the wicker basket on the ground and stepped back. "If you would like to leave, Lakonius, I do believe there is someone new at your doorstep. Perhaps seeing what she wants would prove interesting?" Death was clearly trying to avert a negative reaction from the God of madness, and it was probably painfully obvious to everyone in the vicinity. That said, the task was no less necessary; an all-out conflict between the two of them would just result in a number of headaches for her. Gods could be so inconsiderate when they didn't have to clean up after themselves. A few in particular came to mind, but who was she to say? She just collected the mortal souls when the games were through.
"I guess I jumped to conclusions. Still, a warning would indeed have been nice. If you would like to discuss something with me, then please come inside." She said pleasantly.
With a wave of her arm, the door to her home opened and a light breeze echoed forth from the humble lodging.
Then of course, there was still the matter of the other visitor. She had not been simply trying to avert conflict when she had mentioned it, though that had of course been the reason for the timing. He might want to know who was knocking at his own door, after all. It struck Death that there was nothing in particular preventing her from staying while Lakonius left, but... she shook her head minutely. This world could addle the brain, it seemed.
"Good suggestion Maura, I will see what is happening. And I will leave Anneteris alone for now. You two have a nice chat."
With a snap of his fingers, Lakonius turned into a cloud of purple smoke, and snuck off. He noticed what looked like a young woman holding coffee and knocking on the back door. Apparently, this one arrived from 20th-21st century. Lakonius materialized behind her and grabbed her shoulder.
"BOO!!!! Thats what humans say, right? Boo?"
To her humiliation, she was not expecting that. Cailin gave out a girlish yelp and would have spilled her coffee had there been any left in the cup. She whirled around to face the culprit with glaring, icy eyes.
“I believe that particular phrase is most common with human children and mostly on only one night out of their year.” Clearing her throat she hurried on with her reason for coming here in the first place as she was eager to get back, “I have a letter to a Mr. Lakonius. Could you be so kind as to point me in his direction?” She flashed the golden letter briefly to show him the name. Also the coffee disappeared from her other hand, now free to place on her hip.
In a dramatic voice, Lakonius said, "I am the God of Madness, creator and sole ruler of this world, Lakonius! No 'Mr.' please, that is an oddly human expression. Also, in reply to your earlier comment, compared to my advanced age, you are indeed a child, so the 'boo' was most appropriate. Also, my world operates in ridiculous ways, so every day is any day you want it to be. Unless you want it to not be called day, but night. Then you can say it is nighttime, but you would end up confusing quite a number of people unless it actually was nighttime, but then you'd call it day, wouldn't you?"
Though his ramblings did annoy her, she figured not arguing would speed up this little delivery. Plus, she was never one for arguing.. Which seemed to be a bit taboo seeing as how disagreeing was one of Satan's favorite ways to begin mass amounts of chaos. Perhaps this Lakonius gave him the idea. Either way, her task was almost over.
It was not as though she disliked Anneteris or anything; she had simply not had much cause to interact with the Goddess before. The idea to bring her sweets in the first place had been rather non sequitur, all things considered, and she had been half-expecting (again with the matter of expectations) her idea to be refused on principle.
Well. If Death could be said to have any notable personality traits at all, one of them was probably politeness, and so she dipped her head slightly before taking a seat at the table where Anneteris was drinking tea. "So, um... may I ask what brings you here? Not to your home, that is, but to this world?" Way to sound intelligent, Death, really. She almost shook her head at her own inability to phrase a simple question, but then this may in fact have made it worse, so it was probably better that she didn't.
"That is a very good question. Despite what everyone believes, order and madness go hand in hand. One cannot exist without the other, but when the balance between the two is disrupted, I step in to restore the balance. Most other gods and demons believe that I am here to completely stop Lakonius and bring united order to the world, but that is not so. I am simply here to ensure that proper balance between order and madness is upheld. As it is, the balance in this world has been disturbed and I am here to fix it."
She materialized a cup in her hand with tea, and offered it to Death.
"Tea?" She asked with a smile.
"Well my dear, welcome to the world of Gaia Xaotika. You will be here for an undetermined length of time, learning the ways of Chaos and all that good stuff. Good ol' Luci decided that you need to be taught how to be a good little demon by the master. So come, let us get to know each other, as you will be here for quite sometime apparently. YOu know my name, but who are you?"
"Undetermined length of time?", she asked slowly. "No. No. No. No! The-there must be some a mistake of some sort!", her voice rose in exasperation as she snatched the letter from Lakonius, who wore an amused smirk. Icy, blue eyes quickly scanned the gold paper, "This can't be for me. He can not mean me!" Attempting to regain her composure, "I'll just pop back over to Satan and clear this whole thing up. I'm so sorry to bother you Lakonius."
With one last smile, that she hoped did not appear to make her look too crazy, she closed her eyes and imagined herself in a chic shoe store on 8th Avenue. Retail therapy is just what she needed at the moment! Her features relaxed before she fluttered open her eyes expecting to see this Spring's hottest little sling-backs. Instead she with looking back into the face of the God of Chaos himself.
Cailin let out a cry of frustration and made several more attempts. Finally she admitted defeat with a pouting frown, "Cailin. My name is Cailin."
"Oh, I understand the balance," she replied to Anneteris's earlier explanation. "Granted, you are right about most of them, though. I suppose it makes sense for you to be here, but then in this world, even I am unnecessary, so I suppose there was always a chance that someone like yourself might have abandoned the effort. You are more diligent than your kin." As per habit with Death, the entire speech (for her, it was indeed enough talking to constitute a speech) was delivered in a rather flat monotone, though she did reach down into her basket and retrieve several of the mint-chocolate leaves which she figured would go well with tea.
"Please do take some," she offered. "At the very least, they seem to be no more chaotic than the average sweet."
"Very well." She said quietly.
She took the chocolate leaf and ate it slowly, savoring the flavor. Despite being a deity, she did love sweets, and would never turn them down if offered by anyone but Lakonius.
"Thank you very much." She said politely.
"Well Cailin, it seems you do a very poor job of leading humans to the dark side. Now, I personally do not care one way or another. Harvesting souls for whatever reason is not my prerogative. Spreading insanity is more my thing. Anyway, doing the will of Luci does not mean you cant have fun with it. Come, we have work to do."
Lakonius changed himself into his dragon form, indicating that Cailin should get on, unless she could fly. Their destination was the "holy" city of Drakonyl. It was about time those Order-loving fools had a good dose of madness.
"Someone's making things difficult on Earth again..." she murmured, shaking her head. Honestly, of all the places she'd ever been, Earth seemed to be the most inclined to fight her very existence. It was a rather strange attitude they held towards her; a mix of the outright reverential and worshipful and glorifying with revulsion, fear, and desperation. Probably not healthy for the poor things, but it wasn't as though she could do anything about that. Arguably, she was the problem in the first place.
She looked back at Anneteris, and her expression was apologetic. "I'm sorry; you'll have to excuse me. Humanity can be a bit of a chore, sometimes..." Materializing her scythe once again, Death stepped back from the table and swung it, rending another dimensional rift, through which she stepped and vanished, the portal closing immediately after her.
A perfectly shaped eyebrow rose when Lakonius shifted into a dragon. Not because his choice was shocking, she had seen far worse in the fiery pits, but more so because the God was apparently wanting her to ride him to wherever it was they were to go. She seriously doubted that whatever his version of work was, it would be the least bit of her idea of fun.
With a sigh she figured that doing as this God said would likely be the quickest route out of this world and back to Earth. Grudgingly, she flicked her wrist and found herself perched on the Lakonius’ now scaly back. Poofing, as she referred to it, would have been the preferred way of travel. Seeing as how her powers seemed to be on the fritz, likely due to her Master, and that fact that she had no idea where Lakonius was taking her, this would have to do. “Giddy up.”, she tried at a bit of humor though it was lacking.

"Well now, we are going to annoy a certain good little Christian. They have arrived in my world and extol their abominable values to the people of my land. Worse than that, they have actually gained some support! The victim is a 'holy' knight called Xanix. I believe this shall be quite fun. OH! before I forget." Lakonius reached his thoughts out, seeking the gloomy, black aura that symbolized Maura. She was no longer in his world. How sad, she didn't even say goodbye. He opened his mind to the infinite dimensions, seeking until he found her. He smiled to himself as he saw her aura was slowly gaining some color at the edges. "Maura, it was quite rude of you to leave my world without saying goodbye, but I suppose I can overlook this slight because your job is rather difficult. And I will forgive you if You promise to return soon! Anywho, I am about to be a nuisance to Anneteris and a bunch of Christians living in my world. I met another demon! Just letting you know."
Lakonius turned back to Cailin and said, "While we track this Xanix down, how about you tell me a bit more about yourself?"
Cailin’s cheeks may have been slightly flushed, but as he sat her down she was quick to regain her composure. With a shake of her head, her hair became sleek and in place once again and she straightened her jacket just for good measure.
She listened carefully as the God explained there reason for being in this new place. Not being exactly thrilled to be annoying anyone, she simply nodded that she understood. The demon shot him a questioning glance and wondered what he forgot. Not being able to read thoughts, she quickly disregarded his statement. After all, he was the God of Madness.
“Well,” she began thoughtfully, “I used to work for the ’big guy upstairs’ and I suppose I was fine at that… for a couple hundred years anyway. I started out in guardianship but then was transferred to general do-gooding.” She faltered a bit, “That particular job was not what I’d call my specialization. So… I was kicked out. I’m sure you know how these things go. I’ve only been with the Dark Side for almost fifty years, and while Satan is more lenient, he thinks I’m lacking. That part you know from His letter.”
Cailin continued on as they walked, “And it’s not that I’m lazy, please do not think that. It’s just… Humans do have free will and what we, Satan’s crew, are supposed to do is counter act the ’miracles’ that Christ’s crew does. So, I’m supposed to run around doing such things as tempting or creating ’bad’ situations and it’s just that I really don’t see the point anymore. However, giving up this job would mean back to Hell and I do not want that.” Cailin glanced at Lakonius with a slightly embarrassed smile, “I’m rambling and I shall stop now.”

Her choice in form (though it felt most natural to her) got her a few weird looks from some people, ironically mostly the older kind, those she'd be seeing again soonest. She was of the impression that her manner of dress was called "Goth" in this part of the world, which was also rather ironic seeing as how it was those people who seemed to have the biggest misunderstanding of what, exactly, she stood for. I am neither glamorous nor malicious, after all.
Which left the rather obvious question, though it was not one she really had bothered to ponder before. Just what am I, anyway? She wasn't a Spirit or a God, and she was certainly not anything so perishable as a demon or a witch. Which honestly didn't leave her with many options left in the immortal category. But she was immortal. Maybe.
All this uncertainty (coupled with the irritating stubbornness of her latest assignment) was giving Death a headache. She knew that the moment she became intangible again, this would disappear, along with all other sensations. Some spirits never left that state of perfect non-feeling, but Death didn't like it that much. Something about the sensations a world produced was too.... something to give up entirely. Too interesting? Too... nice? She shook her head. Yet another thing she did not know.
Well, what did she know then? She could tell each mortal being in any universe the precise date and time of its death. She knew any number of trivial things about each world she visited. Death knew she was fond of sweets, and wasn't so fond of her job, and felt pretty much neutral towards anything else. That wasn't quite true though. She liked Lakonius; he was always kind to her. And Anneteris, though something about her made Death feel small. She liked Chronos, her adopted father, though she didn't see him that often anymore-
At that point, Lakonius's voice interrupted her thoughts. Death cocked her head sideways as she tended to do when listening to such mental communications, and turned a bit pink when he mentioned her being rude. That had not been her intention at all... Well, she replied over the link, I'm sorry if I offended you, but I can return now if that is acceptable to you. I had to deal with a stubborn human... Despite herself, she was a little bit excited at the prospect of returning to that fantastical world of his.

"Rambling is perfectly acceptable, this is a my world, and if I were to outlaw rambling, I would have to lock myself in prison. Actually, its not so much that I ramble as I go off on tangents when I... Ooh, look, a baby winged serpent... talk. I suppose this is because I do not get to talk with others all that often, or perhaps because I like to think out loud. In any case, I have been craving that strange Earth food known as taquitos, and also..."
Lakonius cocked his head as Maura responded. "Terribly sorry dear, I was simply being a clown, I am not really offended. Oh, and you may return whenever you wish. My world will always welcome you with open arms, as will I. You are, after all, one of the few higher beings whose presence I actually enjoy. If you'd like to join me on this latest escapade and meet a former angel, feel free to pop in."
Lakonius looked back to Cailin, offering an apologetic smile.
"So sorry, my mind was elsewhere... literally. I believe it may have been on Earth, but I'm not totally sure. As far as your job predicament.... I am rather annoyed with 'God' and Luci. It isn't as though either of them can truly claim humans anyway. Humans came from the Earth, and the Earth came from Chaos. Christ and Lucifer simply want what doesn't belong to them. Perhaps you can take up permanent residence here? I am a much better supervisor than Satan and Christ combined! Besides, Lucifer has been neglecting the soul market for my dimension. Ah well, he doesn't want you back until I say you are ready, right?"
Lakonius gave Cailin a grin and then looked in the crowd. He thought he spotted Xanix, but he couldn't be too sure.
Between her unspoken thoughts, she would smile and giggle to herself at the God's random ones. Looking at the crowd around her, she couldn't help but notice several questioning stares. Lakonius clearly would stand out in a crowd anywhere, but she guessed her her appearance was not exactly fitting in with the locals. She thought about changing her clothes. This thought was quickly shattered..
Permanent residence?! She hoped the panic that washed over her did not show as clearly on her face. She forced a smile, "Um-Right. Not until you say so." Cailin picked a random man out of the crowd, "Oh, look! Is that Xanix?" The demon doubted this was the man He was searching for, but would hopefully distract the God from his last question. "What exactly are we going to do here?"

Perhaps unconsciously on his part, Lakonius's mental link was also informing her that he had a strange food craving, and Death's nose wrinkled slightly. Taquitos? Really? Of all the earthen delicacies, he liked those? Oh well. I do owe him anyway, for making my job easier. Death always paid her dues.
It was no difficult manner to conjure some Mexican currency (if you were going to eat something, it might as well be the good kind, after all) and teleport herself there. She'd appeared before the previous owner of this little place not too long ago, actually, but long enough that his family was no longer in the throes of grief. That would have been a little malicious, especially for her.
"Disculpe," she said, approaching the counter somewhat hesitantly. She still wasn't precisely comfortable actually interacting with humans in anything but her official capacity. "Me gustaría un poco de taquitos, por favor." The man shrugged and nodded, and a slightly-awkward currency exchange later, Death had the taquitos and for some reason nachos also. Oh well; maybe the demon would like them?
"Gracias," she said, taking her exit and ducking around a corner before creating herself a new portal and stepping through it. Her tracking skills were necessarily impeccable, and she emerged little more than five feet from the demon's elbow.
"Hello," she greeted flatly, extending her arm towards Lakonius. "Taquitos, from Mexico on Earth. Oh, and nachos for your friend, if she wants them." She said nothing else.

"You know Maura, if the whole being death business is getting boring, you can always start a delivery business! 'Death's Delectable deliveries,' So good, you will positively DIE of anticipation! HAHA! In all seriousness though, I do appreciate the treat. I will reward you by giving you a plot of land wherever you want to do whatever you wish with it. Make a house, turn it into a swimming pool, or plant some of the underworld sweet plants on this side, its up to you! Anywhere in the Kingdom you may choose! Now then, on to this Xanix character. I am certain that is him. He be that one thar. Be he over in yonder direction? Indeed. And he reeks of self-righteous buffoonery. Wait a moment, buffoonery is an actual word? Apparently it is recognized by several dictionaries. Odd. Anywho, here I go!"
Lakonius summoned a small fire ball, enough to twinge a little, but certainly not enough to do damage. He hurled it at the back of Xanix's head.
She listened, somewhat amused, at Lakonius' ramblings. A smile could not be helped as she glanced from the God to the Reaper. With a small shake of her head, attention was back on the knight who they were supposed to start something with, Cailin still was not entirely sure.
The demon placed a single hand on her hip, nachos in the other, as she watched the God throw a small fire ball at Xanix. It was not large enough to hurt, but perhaps be quite irritating. In her angelic days, she may have been compelled to turn such a thing into perhaps a feather. These days she simply watched and waited for the outcome. Perhaps this was Lakonius' way of simply getting the man's attention.
Unfortunately, Lakonius had greatly overestimated the resilience of mere humans. The fireball struck its target, and the man fell over, his helmet fused to his skull. He was clearly dead. How intriguing. Lakonius noticed the people were screaming and running about. This was an unprecedented turn of events.
"Maura, Cailin, I have made an odd miscalculation. Apparently, humans are quite frail. We should be off before these fools force me to destroy this whole place. Off we go!"
With a snap of his fingers, Lakonius opened a portal to his underworld, and stepped through to the other side. The last thing Maura and Cailin saw of the mad god was his wide smile.
"Where am I? When am I?" he asked, rubbing the back of his head as though it were sore. Technically, she could have just waited for Lakonius's new system to take effect, but she couldn't break old habits so easily, it seemed.
"Down the rabbit hole at teatime, it would seem," she replied in a deadpan monotone, deciding to expedite this as much as possible. "Follow me, please." Not that he had much of a choice. She stopped on her way to the portal and turned to Cailin. "It's usually best to just follow gods and comply when they get like this. Lakonius is honestly less demanding than most, if he likes you." With that semi-friendly advice, she too disappeared into the portal, tugging Xanix along behind her with the Red String of Fate.
The setting changes from Drakonyl to Abode of Anneteris
She searched her drawer for a special book of spells that her mentor had given her when she was learning to control her powers millennia ago. Though she had more than enough time to learn all of the spells, she had neglected this higher spell book and so had to relearn the spell she had in mind.
"..... Mmm..... Ah ha! Found it!" She proclaimed.
Anneteris found her spell, and began to practice the words to the spell.
She found the ingredients and began to gather them into the design the book mentioned, and once everything was ready, she committed the words and movements to memory, and set the book down. She took her position outside a specially drawn circle of magic on the floor, and took a breath.
"Time to begin..." She said quietly.
Anneteris began to recite the words to her spell, and walked through each movement gracefully as could be. Eventually, she got into a groove and closed her eyes for a moment to enjoy the spell and its casting. It was a mistake to do so, and she opened her eyes too late to find she was about to bump into her table. Her hip hit the edge and dropped a few ingredients into the circle that she never meant to add, and she gasped.
"!!"
Another mistake. The words had been misread, and she lost all her rhythm. The spell was a bust, but began to cast itself anyway.
"No! This isn't what is supposed to happen!!!" She cried out!
The magic circle on the ground began to glow a dark purple color and Anneteris felt a bead of sweat drip down her forehead. A moment later, the light faded, and a small puff of smoke came up from the circle before it disappeared.
"... Was that it?" She asked.
She looked around and sighed. She picked up her mess on the floor and set everything down, and then walked outside.
She looked up and saw there were clouds coming, and a storm was the last thing she needed to ruin her day yet further. She raised her hands, closed her eyes, and cast a spell to dissipate the clouds... and nothing happened.
She opened her eyes and tried again... nothing.
"... No..." She said quietly.
"I didn't!!" She cried.
She grabbed the book and looked through the pages of miscasting, and found a horrifying truth to what she had just done.
"... Oh no..." She said quietly.
Anneteris had accidently miscast one of the post powerful spells in the magic realm, and had all but completely nullified the powers of every higher power being in the current dimension... including herself.
"... I try to stop Lakonius from using his power for a bit to force his cooperation... and this happens..."
She began to shake lightly.
"Dammit!" She cried.
"Even when he's not here he is a curse upon me and my activities!!" She yelled to nobody in particular.
She walked outside and let out a sigh.
"He's not going to like this one bit..." She said quietly.
The setting changes from Abode of Anneteris to Drakonyl
Sure enough, the portal closed moments later, and all of Gaia Xaotika was quaking. Lakonius' powers had been sealed, and so, the magic that sustained the world was reshuffling itself, trying to find a new way around this huge change.
"Cailin... Maura.... I believe we should get somewhere safe."
The demon looked to Lakonius with what she was sure and ashamed to be a pleading look. For half a second, she wondered if this was his doings, after all this was his world. The bewildered look that twisted his features suggested otherwise. “Now would be a great time to turn into that dragon!”, she screamed at the God rather flippantly as she watched the humans scattering before her, screaming and running for cover as the ground beneath them threatened to come apart at any moment.
So saying, she walked calmly past the other two and used the end of her scythe to draw a strange arcane symbol in the dirt. It looked as though a spell had been cast, removing the magical powers of everyone in the vicinity. Luckily for Death, though some of her abilities were certainly gone, the fact of what she was could be destroyed by no simple spell. As long as mortals existed, so would she, in a sense. Granted, she probably would not be able to open any major portals in her current state, but since she was not only here, at least other dimensions would continue to function normally in the absence of this facet of her existence.
Theoretically, she supposed she could unify her essence, but that was not recommended, considering that the result would probably be the cessation of all existence, Death to life itself.
So for now, this manifestation would have to deal with reduced capability. She could still do some things, however. Murmuring in her Voice over the pattern (she hated to admit it, but it seemed to have lost some of its Absolute authority), she expanded the symbol to encompass a radius of a few hundred feet in any direction, including both Lakonius and Cailin in it. The shaking of the ground in this circle ceased, rendering them safe for the moment.
The effort had cost Death more than she would have expected. "Here," she replied belatedly to Cailin's question. "I am using my existence to stabilize this area. It will outlast whatever is causing your world to fragment, but I dare not risk trying to encompass the entire dimension this way. Funny, isn't it? I am so often though to be destructive, but it would seem that when most of power is gone, it is the unification that remains of me." Her lips twitched into a strange, mirthless little smile, and she shook her head.
"So... how do we fix this?"
"We do nothing to fix anything. The world is temporarily in chaos because it needs to now continue its existence without my magic to sustain it. Thus, it is finding alternate sources of power. Unfortunately, this means that certain physical laws will take effect. The underworld is shifting; I believe now that death is not as temporary as it once was. Poor Xanix will not be returning. The full extent of my powers have been sealed. Cailin, you are a demon, and if Lucie wasn't already sealing your powers, you would be unaffected by this spell. And Maura... You have always been unique, and thus, your powers are not affected either. A pity.... A king has lost all his strength."
Lakonius struck a cliched tragic pose, pretending to lament this turn of events. He then focused and fire burst into life over his open palm.
"Well.... Not all of it. We must visit Anneteris yet again. That vile wench will receive quite an earful."
Lakonius walked over to one of the large dragons and spoke to it in its language. The beast acquiesced to Lakonius' request, and bowed its head. Lakonius removed the reigns that held it, and then hopped up onto its back. It agreed to take Lakonius and his group to Anneteris, and then to the Earth before returning to its proper master. This master glared angrily at Lakonius, and wore the necklace of Anneteris' devout slaves. The goddess had done something that was forbidden to all greater spirits. By attempting to seal Lakonius' powers, she unwittingly sealed her own as well. Obviously, to Lakonius anyway, this unfortunate turn of events was the system at work. Centuries ago, Chronos and his siblings, along with Amun-Ra and Quetzalcoatl all came together to put an intricate system in place preventing spirits from causing too much trouble. And the fool Anneteris, being a younger spirit, had unwittingly set the force in motion. This was an act of war, and Lakonius would be sure to erase her from his world.
Cailin had previously given Death a grateful look. At least someone was helpful at the moment. A smile cracked on her lips as she thought how ironic it was for Death to be saving them. Was not the expression to cheat death? Not ask for it's, well her, assistance. Shaking the thought for now, she looked to Lakonius as he conjured a bit of fire. Perhaps all was not lost.
Cocking her head to one side, she tried to decipher exactly what was going on. A God usually doesn’t just up and lose his powers, certainly not in his own world. At the mention of Anneteris, the pieces began to fall together. Cailin did not know much of the other gods, beyond her past and present employer, but she knew enough to know that the God of Chaos rarely (if ever) got along with the Goddess of Order.
As the god commandeered a dragon, the demon let out a small sigh. Dragon was not her preferred way of travel, but if it got her out of here, she would comply. It took more than a show of effort to climb atop the beast without the help of magic. Embarrassing perhaps, but she managed to do it as quickly as possible, hoping to spare her pride. Usually being cool and collected, this world was tending to bring out the worst in her. Likely just what Satan had wanted?
The comment about Anneteris, she did not address. Death rather liked Anneteris, but Lakonius was master of this world, and she had interfered in a way that crossed quite a few lines and broken numerous rules along the way. As long as she remained here, retribution was his prerogative. If she left, it would be left to the court of her father. Unfortunately, it was unlikely that she even could leave, since she'd most likely lost her powers in the same manner as Lakonius.
"Well... I can still get us there, at least." The ability to travel between dimensions was not a "power" in the conventional sense, but rather a part of what she was, an essential part, and the spell had failed to do much more than inhibit it. Her scythe felt heavy, though, and her swing was clumsier than usual. Death had to tug at the fabric of reality before it tore; it did not slice through as cleanly as it would have otherwise, and she frowned.
Still, it was a portal, functional and open, which was probably more than anyone else could manage right now, much to her dismay. "Shall we?"
"Fine... I suppose the portal will also work. Ah well."
He spoke a few words to the dragon, and the great beast let out a chuckle and lowered its head, allowing Lakonius to dismount. He did so with a flourish and quickly apologized to the dragon's owner before jumping into the portal.
The setting changes from Drakonyl to Abode of Anneteris
She silently cursed herself for acting in such a manner, and vowed never to interfere with his doings again as it was not worth her time or effort. Whatever he did to his world was his business, and it did not affect the balance of the universe around it to a level that she need worry about.
And so, Anneteris left Lakonius to deal with his now sealed world, and returned to the divine realm from which she descended from in the first place.
