Ace Young's Story

Into Gambits came a first-timer, a new face, one young and bright. He was somewhat tall, just above average, with a slim body and lightly tanned skin. His eyes scanned the bar with bewilderment and curiosity as he made his way to the counter.

The young man was dressed in baggy pants and black leathers, chains hanging from his belt strings and brass aviator goggles resting on his head. His black hair was long and straight, falling midway down his back in a high ponytail. He looked very much like a girl, with his pointed chin and bright eyes. "There a bartender anywhere?" He asked, taking a seat.

As Ace ordered himself some hard cider, he turned his head to grace his eyes upon Syne, who had conveniently sat three seats over. He looked her over briefly and smiled to himself. "Well, fairly normal looking people here..." he said to himself, trying not to take notice of...the Demon Lord and Damionell.
He took them as being a mutation, possibly from being exposed to radiation. It happened a lot where he came from.

Ace Young turned his head to briefly sneaked another glance at Syne, the smallest of laughs escaping from his lips. So she noticed, ah? The young hoverbiker placed his mug of cider down and shifted in his seat, placing his chin onto his palm. "I suppose you're a shy one then, eh?" He said to her, a smile dancing on his lips. "Or is eye contact not something you find generally interesting?"

"Well, where am I gonna go if I'm shy?" He said, taking a sip of his cider at almost the same time as the woman drank her juice. It was true that in the past Ace was a reserved individual. Not much happened for it.
"The names Ace, I'm new in town.

"Nice to meet you as well. Don't come here often? That's a shame. Is it that bad here?" He laughed, lifting his mug a bit before placing it back on the table. He rocked in his chair, leaning the seat back. Usually, this was a bad idea, especially for Ace, who cherished his alcohol a little too closely.
"So, then, what are you doing in a place like this? It's called...Gambits, right?"

Coming back into Gambits after a small ride on his hoverbike outside, Ace walked in, moving back to the counter, eying the talking Lamp and shrugging.
Maybe it was an A.I. Who knows.
Seating himself, he bought another mug of apple cider. He tucked a long lock of hair behind is ear.
With such a slim frame and long black hair up in a ponytail, he looked very much like a girl.

"You little wretch!" Ace yelled after Gian, just about to run after him in his rage. He stopped mid-step, watching the boy run off with his hairband. His hair hung long over his shoulders, draping over them and falling to the sides of his face.
He looked even more like a girl, now.

Putting a hand on his forehead, he walked back, trying to enjoy the rest of his cider. He constantly put his hair back up in a ponytail with his hand, and dropped it again each time with a sigh.
He hated the feeling of his hair on the sides of his face!

Furrowing his brow, Ace pursed his lips and listened intently onto the news on the TV. "Liquefied beings, eh? Well...I suppose that's something I should worry about," he said, moving over to the TV and turning the channel using the buttons on the side, looking for the news once more. They did say there was more information coming, but maybe a different news channel would have different...well, news.
"C'mon, c'mon..." Ace mumbled, flipping through channels.

Ace hadn't heard Chris say such things, he was far too interested in the news. However, the static did annoy him just a slight bit. His long black hair flopped over his shoulder, and Ace made a displeased grunting noise.
"Damn kid, stealing my hair band," he growled.

"Nuclear attacks? I thought the Taiyou would be more responsible for that..." He mumbled, sitting down and watching it with increasing interest.
When he next took a sip of his cider, he found there was none left.
Then he looked to the clock on the wall.
"D'oh! Late, it's late!" He bellowed, dropping his mug onto a table and rushing out the door, a flurry of black hair following him.

Into Gambits came a tall youth, long black hair in a ponytail that ended mid-back, eyes misted over by a haunting grey. The youth was very feminine, with a slender form dressed in various black leathers and a trench coat. Chains hung from belt hoops and pockets were multiple.
Quite the rebellious young one.

The one that came in stealthily behind them was a shrimp of a boy, dressed similarly, but instead with baggier clothing and a long red scarf that hung from his neck. His ears were pointed, and his eyes a bright blue and darling. The first feminine person did not seem to notice the small boy behind them.

It was at that time that two men would come into the bar.
Well, maybe not men. One was an elf, and both too young to be called men in the first place. In any case, both Gian Gray, a young Elf with bright blue eyes and a sharp tongue, and Ace Young, a slender, effeminate lad with a long ponytail, waltzed in, hands in their pockets, goggles upon their heads.
Gian had a smirk on his face, and Ace yawned widely.
"What are we...ah, doing here, again, Gian?"
"To get out of camp. After the new bio-weapon exploded the whole place stinks!"
"I really don't mind."
"Well, I do! Remember my nose is more sensitive than yours!"
"Then why didn't you come here by yourself?"
"...it's...you'll understand."
"Frightened like the little girl you are!"
"Shut your mouth!"

The briefness of his answer made Ace uncomfortable as he shifted in his seat. He caught sight of Gian, who widened his nostrils and poked out his tongue at him.
He did his best to ignore it. "You seem...a bit down. Ah..."
It became harder to speak with every pause, but Ace was too nice to walk away and leave it. He cursed himself for it inwardly.
"Down? It's not the weather, either, is it?"

Ace would have stretched out a hand to pat the dragon, but he was afraid of it being eaten.
Very, very afraid.
"She's...ah..."
He looked up, seeing Gian move his hand across his throat repeatedly. He shook his head like a turkey.
"Well...and she'll be better soon, too. After Naria gets a...I mean. She's getting better right now. It wasn't...your fault."
He clasped his hands together and pursed his lips.
"That's how she's been for a while...it wasn't anyones fault."

"Giselle...well, she...ah..."
Gian was frantic now, waving his hands in the air in an 'x' motion. Ace rocked back in his chair, contemplative.
And very, very indecisive.
"She can't miss things when she's...not awake...she...OW!" Ace yelled as an empty mug hit him straight in the head. It dropped to the floor, and Ace grasped his face.
Gian was glaring again.
"Screw you, then!" Ace cursed, throwing the mug back over. "She's getting a surgery right now. It's supposed to be something to help her...ah. Mentally wise. Some kind of brain implant..."

"Well...we don't know. It's risky...she might...not remember even as much." Ace said at last, sinking back down in his chair. He looked down to the floor, concentrating on the dragons tail to distract himself for a few moments.
"Wow...so you must...really, really like her, huh?" He said, looking up.
A voice piped up beside him. "Not like you should, anyway! You're just a shitpile of self-loathing, aren't you!?" Gian said, making Ace panic and nearly topple from his chair.
"When the hell did yo-"
"You're useless for a dragon! Aren't you supposed to be...I dunno...RAWH!" Gian said, raising up his hands and opening his mouth to show his teeth in demonstration.
Ace grimaced.
"You make a horrible dragon."

The group would descend onto Gadget's base camp, which was fused right in with the ruins, large, scattered tents, here and there, cloth draped over broken rock, a sort of wooden shelter being built in the corner. Despite it's rag-tag looks, the insides of the tents were rather fancy, filled with people finishing their machines, with cogs and pieces of equipment scattered everywhere. This was very much like their own world, and the Gadgets made themselves at home there.
They descended in the center of camp, near the Medical Tent, which was a soft orange color.
"Alright...she should be right in there," Ace said, pointing to an entrance at the far left of the large tent.

The bottom of the tent would be less raggedy than expected. There was a bit of dirt at the entrance, but when one walked in, one would see that metal coated the ground. It wasn't slippery, and it was put together by lots of little bits, giving the ground some texture. Machines were everywhere, most far more advanced than any modern hospital. Robotic arms hung here and there, tubes ran along the ceiling, and human-sized, A.I robots busied themselves with tasks, alongside their doctors.
There was a bed in the room to the next part to the tent. A drape was dawn over the entrance, but was easily brushed aside.

On the bed sat a familiar pale face, her hands in her lap, wearing a white shift. Part of her hair had been shaved away, and in place of it was a machine that took the shape of her head, lights and tubes running in and out of it.
She was still as skinny as ever, but there was something...different about her eyes.
"Who's there?" She asked.

"They're in the middle of a conflict, Jack. I don't think this is the time," Ace said, about to slip on his goggles and move on. However, the Korean hoverbiker caught Ace's shoulder, stopping him.
"Wait just one second, my friend. This is interesting..." he mumbled, watching the fight progress. He was obviously distracted by a lot more than the fight. One woman had wings, of all things, and the other a tail!

How interesting...

"Get the popcorn, boys, we might get amusement yet!"

Ace was sitting there with no idea what to do. He wasn't the stupidest member of Gadget, god knew, but he didn't favor violent situations, neither did he feel like interrupting.
But they already had, and Jack was in the water and Gian was slumped onto his hoverboard, baffled as to how Rose got him to loosen his grip.

As Jack thrashed in the water, his clothing (and gadgets, various pieces of machinery in his pockets, so on...) dragging him down. He didn't see the shark. He wasn't even worried about it. A shark didn't matter if he was going to drown in the first place!

As Rose and Coral came over, he stretched out a hand. "Oi, help!" He cried out.

The elf told Ace to relax, but the young man simply stared on in panic. That thing was...was...
"Huge, isn't she?" Said Gian, winking at Ace as Hope attempted to bat at the rather long ponytail. It worked, and Ace backed away, grasping his chest.
"Who is that?" He asked, daring to crouch before her.
"It's Hope."
"Hope?"
"Yes. Pinky. From last night."
"...you're crazy. This is...?" He pointed a finger at her, lost.

Ace wiped his mouth of soup as he sat next to Emiko. Boy, things were certainly gloomy today. "Emiko?" He asked, bumping his shoulder onto hers. "Everything alright? You don't even seem to be eating." He noticed Jack and Gian's departure.
"Looks like we have a lot of people today.

Ace looked at Emiko strangely. Her family? She had mentioned them a few times when he had been with her. Not a complete lot, but enough. He knew that they weren’t the best of people, at least. “What about them? You’re not thinking of going back, are you? We’d miss you an awful lot here.”

"I can tell, Emiko. You'll control it one day, though, I know you can." He told her, smiling. He rubbed his hands together and sighed. He did not let go of her hands, however. He knew the moment he did that she would begin the fiddling and fretting. "Immortal...one hundred and fifty years? Mercy! And you act like any one of us, too. Amazing."
