A cloaked woman entered the bar quietly. She did nothing to draw attention to herself, aside from keeping her hood drawn. Without making mention to anyone, but certainly noting the lion, the woman occupied a seat at the bar. She then began to listen.

Many conversations were going on of course. After a few moments of listening, she came to the conclusion that her life was not in immediate danger. A naive thought considering her location, but what did this woman know anyhow? It's not like she frequented the place.

It had definitely been a while since Sophia had indulged in the intrigue that Gambit’s could provide. She leaned back comfortably, chewing on her sandwich as she attempted to eavesdrop on the man who had been rejected. Unable to hear, she frowned to herself. It was none of her business… and she wasn’t here to get tangled up into something. Hell, she wasn’t even sure she could even accomplish a simple job anymore.

Biting her lip, she smoothed out the wanted poster in front of her, studying it for a moment. She hadn’t worked in over two years… Who’s to say she could even pull off a good assassination anymore?

Rising, she made her way over to the bulletin board with other wanted posters attached. Her repositioning served two purposes. One, she could peruse the bounties up for grabs. Two, she could eavesdrop on the rejected man easier.

Who was she kidding? She’d come here to drink whiskey and lose herself in memories of the past.

The door of the bar slammed open. A massive creature that stood several feet taller than the average man emerged from the doorway. A coat of golden brown fur covered his body, thickening slightly around a lion-like face in a mane. Tanned leather guards protected his thick biceps and thighs as a steel chest plate covered his torso. Attached to his back was an enormous sheathed longsword, a wooden longbow, and a quiver full of steel-tipped arrows. Yellow slitted eyes scanned the room before falling on Shael.

"Uncle!" he cried, the lion-man's face beaming.

The sobbing figure of Gambit himself entered the bar he had so profitably owned for many years. The tall, otherwise elegant figure was hunched over in sorrow as he lurched towards the open area of the bar. This was an unusual circumstance indeed, as Gambit was normally a brash and ravishing individual who commanded attention everywhere he went, however rare an appearance it was.

Supporting Gambit was his lifelong friend; a dark shadow in the corner behind the bar identified only by the glowing ember of a cigar and the smoke it so brilliantly highlighted. The sparks flickered and danced as a reflection across the tears on Gambit's cheeks as he walked towards the front door of the establishment, a movement that carried the weight of a thousand pounds of pure emotion and resulted in comfort among the patrons.

Gambit reached for the switch to the right side of the door in a sweeping motion and broke into a soul-wrenching cry as he flipped the light in the door from an OPEN position to the menacingly red glow of a CLOSED sign. Gambit had, quite literally, just closed the door to his own livelyhood. He turned to the few individuals that were currently populating the criminal front he called a bar.

Ladies an' gentlemens, I—

He choked on his tears as they flooded his sinuses. Gambit hadn't been this emotional, ever, and it showed. His head bowed, and faced the oak floors beneath his boots, which indicated the bar's long-standing history.

He looked up, his eyes full of the rage of a man whose wife had just been murdered.

—I am closin' dis bar until da wife of ma wiveses killer izza found.
he slurred, rushing through the words and storming into the back room, the hulking figure of the cigar smoker turning in behind him in a puff of smoke and closing the door in a slamming motion.

--------------Much time passes--------------

Light thuds from heavy boots pad a concrete sidewalk - a sidewalk that looks like it hasn't been maintained in ages, in a part of town that looks like it went from bad to worse. The air is filled in an ominous smog/fog concoction, but one thing pierces through the otherwise bleak appearance of the run down red light district of Wing City: a bright red neon sign that stands defiant of all trials and tribulations cast upon it over the years. Gambit's Bar shines bright, and underneath it lay an otherwise unremarkable run-down building.

Thud... Thud...Thud...

Each step was strenuous. His brown trench coat appeared to weigh him down. A red glow shined around his red rectangle-lensed wire framed sunglasses. Wavy brown hair seemed to move elegantly with his movements despite still air. When inspected closely, even some streaks of grey can be seen on his sides. The weary traveler moves ever closer like a lost soul in desert to an oasis.

"Need... Dew... n' Rum...Neeeeed... Deeeew... n' Ruuumm.."

He arrived finally at his destination. His six-foot figure was dwarfed by the building as he stood in front of the door.

"Ahhh mon amour, I've missed you so."

The magnificent wing span of his arms sprawled out as far as they could stretch, bear hugging the building. He kissed the grimy door.

"N' it seems you've missed me too, no?"

A shutter from a nearby window crashes to the ground, having held on for so long but no strength to go on. The traveler relinquishes his bear hug on Gambit's Bar and with a heavy thud sits down in front of the door staring at it. He rubbed the rotting door of the bar affectionately.

"Le sigh, I should've never let dis happen t' you. I dunno what t' say t' you... I've lost bot' of my greatest loves while away. But you'll never b'lieve de t'ings I saw! I was in dis mountain an' dere was dis crazy guy n' I was all like "Mah friends call me Remy LeBeau, but you... You can call me Gambit!" awww you should've seen da look on his face. Dat line always get's 'em no? N' den dere was explosions n' I was flyin' t'rough da air t'rowin' cards n' taken names n' I got dat piece of my brain back an'....... No... Dat don' make it right. It don' make up for what I've done t' you.. T' Tay... T' Renée... even t' lil' Gabby. I guess she ain't so little anymore. Mon amour, what do I even say t' her now? How do I even find her? I was blind n' I didn't even know it... Dat piece of my brain... It turned me into a monster. I had power dat would've made Xavier grovel, but I lost dis charm of mine. Ya' know I don' know why everyone talks so clean, it ain't got no class. I din't like it, probably de best t'ing about losin' dat piece of me. Anyway... I din't care 'bout no one. I even became one a' da four horseman... I did t'ings, I can't even say it aches my heart so. I had to take it back out... Wit' some help, n' not willin'ly but I done it. Now I'm me again, but... I did what I did, no? I'm still Les Terribles..."

Remy stood to his feet and dusted himself off.

"Well, I know I don' deserve it but you have somet'in' for me dat I've been savin' for dis moment. Le's see if you've got one more drink in ya'."

With that, Remy pulled a golden key with Remy's face on the side out of his coat. He slid the key into the rusty door lock and with a little effort managed to twist the lock. The lock resisted, but eventually gave way. As soon as he unlocked the door, the door fell off the hinges and slammed into the wooden floor of the bar with unreasonable weight. Given appearances the door would not weigh much, but when it landed the full weight of the door managed to cause more damage to the floor than would be expected. Remy walked into the bar and flipped a dusty light switch. A few flickering lights stuttered and let off a yellow glow across the bar. Remy made his way over to the black granite countertop of the bar, laden in a thick layer of dust. Behind the bar he found the minifridge. With some effort he managed to budge the minifridge out just enough and reach behind it with his long skinny arms. After a few moments of struggle he withdrew, and in his hand he held a dusty aluminum green can.

"Ah look at dat, 1999; dat was a good year. I'm gonna do dis Dew like I ain't ever done Dew b'fore."

Remy reached under the bar, and yanked a bottle of Rum from below. He blew the dust off a hanging glass and poured both the can and the rum in. He took a long sip and let out a satisfied sigh.

"Dat's de stuff... Well, now I gotta do what's right."

He dug around in one of the bar drawers and found a pen and paper. He scribbled in poor handwriting "To my lil' girl Gabby, I can never make up for what I've done t' you... But you can set t'ings right." Remy pulled the golden key out of his pocket once more and stared at it intently. He closed his eyes and rested it on the piece of paper.

"If dere's one t'ing my Gabby knows, it's me."

And with that he gulped the rest of his poured drink and rushed outside. His eyes glowed a deep red and shined through his red lensed sunglasses. Red energy outlined his body as he drew a full fan of cards in both hands. That kinetic energy poured into the cards until they too glowed a bright red. He then flicked cards down the street towards rundown lamposts, mailboxes, benches, broken signs on buildings, anything that he could leave his mark on. Small red explosions popped up all around him causing fire and smoke to rise from an otherwise considered desolate area of town. When he was satisfied with the number of personal markings he had laid down, he flicked one more card into his hand: The King of Hearts. He affixed the card to the door frame of the bar with a pocket knife as a final signature.

"I t'ink I look a bit better dan dis guy, but dat should do. Now, I guess I wait n' see what happens."

He wandered back into the bar, grabbed the remains of his can of Dew, chugged the rest and set it down next to the paper on the bar. He then exited into the dark shadows of the back room, his home of old and entrance to the labyrinth of secret passages.

OOC: I've dropped enough inside jokes and hints to prove I am who I say I am. But just in case I will also include my original signatures. Those who knew me can vouch for me.

The young woman was wearing a cloak when she entered the tavern, but had it draped across the back of her stool at this point. Two braids were wound intricately atop her head, piling high and fastened with an exotic flower. She had come a bit of a way from Wing City, evacuated as soon as her Overs heard a blast. They ushered her south, onto the next location on her tour. Outside, there was a bright flash of light. She looked up from her cool glass of water, noticing the classy music flicker at the flash.

In walked a girl, about the same age as she. Did she cause the blast? Aneres wondered, giving the girl a smile. There weren't that many people in the tavern, and for the most part she was here alone. Overs didn't count.

The pink haired tomboy nodded her head back at the person who smiled at her. Hey, she's not completely without SOME manners. Making her way to the stool nearby, Kumatora rested her elbow on the counter, setting her other arm down on the counter and tapping a finger on it to get the bartender's attention. "Hey! I'll take some cola if ya got it." she said, looking around the tavern a bit. Now that Gambit's was closed, she had to find new places to hang out now. Hey, maybe she found a place that's even better than Gambit's now, even!

The bartender smiled, "Of course," flipping a hurricane glass from some shelf and scooped ice into it. Next he maneuvered towards the soda gun, squirting cola into the glass as he pulled the hose away. The stream stopped, he popped a cherry on a mini sword, tore most the wrapper off a straw, and assembled the drink before the girl. He then moved to the back, opening up her tab.

"Hello," Aneres said after a moment, looking at the soda. She was going to order one in Gambit's earlier, but couldn't as the place had closed. They didn't have cola where she was from and the Overs had said to wait until Wing City to bother purchasing it. Apparently it was cheapest there. She hadn't realized they had cola here too, and was sort of curious.

Kumatora watched as the bartender worked on her order, a small smile coming to her lips. Damn... guy knows what he's doing... Finally, the soda was finally set to rest in front of the psychic, causing her smile to grow somewhat. Ahh... that soda looked freakin' good right now... Kumatora was just about to start sipping from her glass, before she heard Aneres speak up. "Huh?" she stopped, looking over at Aneres. "Oh, hey. Somethin' I can help ya with?" she asked, quirking one of her pink eyebrows as she asked her question.

Aneres nodded once in response, then focused her eyes on the pink haired girl. This question would seem strange, and her Overs had warned her about asking questions like this when on tour, but staring at the fizzing liquid she couldn't help but wonder. Was it even all that good?

"Yes. What does cola taste of?"

To Kumatora, it wasn't that odd of a question. After all, she and most of the inhabitants of the island she lived on hadn't experienced soda until it was introduced to the masses by Porky. "What... wait, ya never had soda?" she asked, blinking a few times. "It's... kinda hard to explain, actually... ya wanna try some?" she asked, holding the soda out to Aneres. She wouldn't mind sharing a bit, to be honest.

Aneres gently shook her head no, and eyeballed the glass of soda. Her Overs had at this point left, gone to the Mint and Sage to reserve them a room for the night.

"Surely," She responded with a smile, nodding again once. Taking the perspiring glass, Aneres brought the edge to her mouth and took a tiny sip. Her eyes flew open wide: It was tingling her lip! And her tongue! She swallowed the sweetness, marveling over the feel of bubbles in her mouth.
"Truly fascinating," Aneres noted, unsure of whether or not she wanted a glass of her own. Taking another sip, and letting this one sit in her mouth, she noticed how the bubbles faded after some time. It tasted very sweet then. She swallowed and handed the glass back.
"Thank you."

Far on the edge of Sol cruised a lone ship. Though inconspicuous and small compared to other space faring objects, this ship was undeniably important somewhere. It was a beautiful vessel, shined metal plates curving over one another with viewing bays settled here and there. Around the ship whirled force-feild light in a pattern, a pattern which would reveal itself to be the beating of butterfly wings. Despite the raw elegance of the interstellar cruiser, it was not the most valued piece of the journey. Inside the ship humans milled around, some busier at work than others. Their soft hair and pastel frocking marked them as servants of one higher born. They were not very valuable either, if you were to ask someone very specific, compared to the one they served who, as chance would have it, was on this very ship.

She lounged in the radio hall, sifting through video channels and hoping to find something worthy. So far she hadn't picked up anything particularly interesting. They had been out of Terran broadcasting space for what seemed like ages to the littly lady. The only stations to reach this far were Terracast, Terra's news network that was constantly erupting with barbaric chaos, and Spome the SpaceHomeNetwork. Every so often a station would fade in from another planet, fading out soon after. With a sigh, Aneres idled on Terracast until she couldn't take the insanity anymore. Mad planet!

"Is there anything interesting or sane on this side of the galaxy?" Aneres Coreveon asked no-one in particular, though a crew member manning the emergency calling module smiled to himself. Rougher than she meant to the princess flipped the receiver back to Spome. The end of some commercial, of course. I resign. The princess stayed in tune, however, as the screen began to glitter with glam. She sat up straighter and payed closer attention, positive this wasn't just any old commercial.

Sparkling with pomp and circumstance an intergalactic broadcast shined through space, reaching televisions and viewports far and wide. Silver glitter slathered across the screen and twinkled to flashy and building big band music as hot pink words elegantly scrawled into existence. They were slow to form at first, enticing the viewer to pay very close attention to what was about to be revealed. Not a moment after their final assembly, a deep voiced announcer read them with excitement on his tongue.

Image

A flash shot through the script as he spoke, accentuating the words. The title of the pageant remained as the glitter in the background popped and faded into various scenes. The words shrunk into a logo, docking in the bottom right of the screen. Women clothed in evening wear smiled at the camera as flashbulbs paled their flesh, now a group of young ladies toasted to their success in a blue-lit lounge. The next shot was of a woman waving to a crowd, riding on the back of a sleek topless hovercraft through a city: she was part of a parade.

"Prospects of war and peace muddling your mind?"
Short clips of government officials from various nations scrolled across the screen, they all were engaged in serious discussion and seemed to be pointing, or making points.

"Allow the lovely ladies of the Second Miss Multiverse Pageant to distract you from troubling Intergalactic affairs with the power of entertainment!"
The screen shifted to show a young woman in a skirt suit shaking hands with a suited man, who was smiling and nodding, the shot morphed to depict her dancing across the stage in an intricate number, then morphed a final time to a close up of her dazzling smile.

As the camera backed away, it was revealed the woman was wearing nothing but a sparkling bikini and shoulder sash with a foreign word on it. She posed proudly, and the viewer followed her off stage as she capped off a long line of women in sparkling swimwear. Some were dressed more eccentrically than others, some completely modest. They all smiled the camera their best as it passed by, some waving, some blowing kisses, one making some kind of armpit signal that must have been attractive in some culture or another. The camera almost didn't catch the woven glass basket of gelatinous goo, or the few females who's species weren't your average height.

The camera zoomed out and blurred, lens flares growing on screen as if their smiles were just too bright for the camera to handle. More words appeared in the same font as before, read aloud by the gallant announcer man.

"Think you have what it takes to be the next Miss Multiverse? Can you battle the odds and fight for the title of Miss Multiverse?"

In a blinding white explosion of more glitter, the screen changed from hosting text to displaying none other than Aleksandra Varushka, the current Miss Multiverse. She waved at the viewership, as if sitting behind each observer was a sea of admirers.

"Applications for the pageant are being accepted now! Set up an interview with one of our Talent Scouts in a major city near you!"

A seemingly infinite list of major cities scrolled over the screen as in the background thousands of fans screamed and clamored for the camera.

"The Grand Prizes for winning such a prestigious title include, but are not limited to, a movie contract with Paraverse Pictures, free drinks for life at The Galactic Bar, and a brand new car!"

Aneres Coreveon leaned in to the Spome network. Silver glitter had overtaken it, and hot pink words twinkled in beautiful cursive across. Captivated the princess watched the advertisement for the Second Ever Miss Multiverse Pageant as it played gloriously on screen.

"This," The Princess noted to herself, practically drooling over the clever advertising. Successful and beautiful women paraded around on a stage. They wore bikinis that on some would seem almost nonsensical if it wasn't for the blinding amount of sparkle and shine. I want one. Aneres stroked her golden tresses, secretly envying the women on screen.

"Provocative objects!" A woman's voice pitched from behind her as the commercial drew to a dazzling close. Aneres didn't hold back her exhasperated sigh as one of her Overs entered the room. She carried a hot tray of hujibi tea in the least, but still the Princess folded in on herself. Spome was turned considerably louder. A home improvement show began, today's special Bubble Habitat Maintenence. It was barely noticed compared to the tension between the girl and the stiff backed Over now looming behind her.

"I'm going," Aneres Coreveon broke the silence. The older woman behind her all but gasped, then tisked in near disgust. The Princess ignored this and continued, "Summon the Royal Scribe." It was time this Princess had a bit of fun.

A few patrons laughed at the jeer, while a few more shook their heads in mild disgust. In the end, most settled back into previous discussion. There were many murmurs of the great Gargantuan Hunt. Another drink was set before Rosh. He didn't notice it, at this point absorbed in a slow motion replay of a fragment of a match in the Lac Long Quan Arena. Idly the old man sipped, studying the construct of the creature.

In the corner, Aneres Coreveon ordered a glass of prikka milk. She had never had the stuff before. It was said to be much like coconut milk, or the liquid one found in a cactus, with cooling properties not unlike the touch of aloe. The Princess was undyingly curious.
