a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Cyphia

Description

Image

She has long red hair with gold coloured, slitted eyes. Her ears are slightly pointed and she wears a red jacket that fits snugly around her. She also wears burgundy pants and ankle-high black boots. She also tends to wear some manner of black band tee, usually depicting a band that could be considered "demonic" or that uses demonic symbols in their designs. Many of her demonic features are hidden by an enchanted ring that she wears. When it's removed, her straight horns appear above her head as well as her tail, wings and the slits in her eyes.

More description will be given later.

Atasah walked along the paths, her hair tousled by the incessant wind. She grumbled to herself, moving her bangs out of her eyes for the hundredth time. She had come here for a specific reason. A scent in the air. A desperation. The exact thing she needed at that very moment in time. She crossed her arms as the wind bit against her again. Despite the jacket, she was still cold.

She shivered slightly, sending out a misting steam from her mouth as she breathed out in exasperation. She could have sworn it would be here, whatever IT ended up being. She tugged at her ponytail, making sure her hair was staying in place as the wind continued to tug at her.

"This is why I hate the world," she muttered to herself," I'll never understand how anyone can live in a place so cold."

Atasah froze. In the middle of the path, just as she had thought. He seemed a little smaller than what she had thought, but besides that, he was perfect. She breathed out one more time, tsking to herself at the stream of steam that came with each breath. She stopped just a little ways away from him.

"Hey there," she said in her sweetest voice," are you lost little one? You look cold. Would you like to borrow my jacket for a little while?"

She smiled at him, revealing a set of nearly perfect white teeth.

She moved closer to him, stopping just out of arms reach. She squatted down in front of him, taking a quick sniff of the air around her. There was no doubt, this was the one she was looking for, but he didn't seem to be in desperation, didn't seem ready to make a bargain or to become as she herself was. He was too innocent. She would have to wait before she could do anything further to him.

She slowly removed her jacket, shivering herself as the cold wind hit the bare skin under her t-shirt. The black band tee she was wearing had some sort of demon symbol on it that was common among the people of the world. She shivered, watching as goosebumps spread across her arms. She held the jacket out to the boy.

"Tell me, why are you all the way out here on your own?" she asked him, doing her best not to shiver as she waited for him to take the jacket.

Atasah's eyes widened in surprise as he pushed up against her, wrapping his arms around her. She returned the gesture by placing her arms around him, squeezing him gently. She let him pull away as he thanked her. She noted the tears falling down from his eyes. There wasn't any doubt now. This was the one she had sensed, now she only needed more time with him.

"Oh," she said in surprise, placing a hand on his cheek to help wipe away any further tears," I'm sorry to hear that. But, don't you have any place you can go? I mean, it's too cold for you to be out wandering about now, and besides, it's gonna be dark soon. Why don't you come with me to my place? I think we both need to get out of this cold for a while."

She straightened up, brushing some of the dirt off of her pant legs. She held her hand out to him, smiling a small smile as she waited to see what he would do.

"Stop with the madam business," she said to him, patting his head with her free hand," it makes me feel old. Come on, let's get out of the cold. It's freezing out here."

She pulled slightly, leading him along the path back the way she had been coming from. She looked up to the sky, watching as snow started to fall down between the trees. They both needed to hurry. It was far too cold for her to be out while it was snowing, and she was sure that despite her jacket, he was likely just as cold as she was. The poor thing was too small for any of her clothing and the jacket almost looked more like a dress as it dangled around his knees.

She looked down at him, a small smile starting again," so, what's your name. I ought to know that much if I'm taking you home with me."

She giggled a little to herself, looking up as the trees began to grow a little livelier as they moved from the regular forest into a more evergreen infested area. Just within their sight was the small cabin that she was residing in for the time being. Her thoughts flung forward to the small space heater she had acquired. She longed for that warmth, but she had to keep her mind focused for now. She still had work to do on the child before she could do anything with him.

Atasah looked back at him, concern crossing her features as she flicked on the space heater. She shivered once more before turning to the stove in the small single room cabin. She turned the dials, smiling as the burner lit, a small blue flame springing to life.

She turned back to Nick as she filled up a kettle," you can call me Atie," she said, grinning at him," how do you like this cabin? My uncle's letting me borrow it for the winter. It's not much, but it's enough for right now."

She winced when she heard him coughing. She moved the kettle of water to the stove, pulling out a few sealed tablets of cold reliever from a box in a cabinet above the stove. At the same time, she pulled out two small mugs, placing the tablets in the cups. She didn't have any reason to worry about illness, but the kid on the other hand. He could definitely use something to help him. She turned around, placing her hands on either side of the stove as she felt the heat from the burner warm her back.

"So, Nick, tell me more about yourself. How old are you? What's your favourite food? Where have you been staying up until now?"

Atasah returned his smile. She set the kettle off to the side to cool as she stretched, grasping a frying pan that was hanging above the stove. She set it down on the burner, pulling open the small half-fridge that was set next to the oven. She pulled out a tub of butter, slapping down a glop of butter to begin melting on the pan. She pulled a few slices of bread from the bread box above the fridge and set them down in the butter, swirling it around on the pan as she pulled a few slices of Kraft cheese from its packaging.

"I hope you're hungry. You can make yourself at home while I cook," she said, pointing around the room," there's the couch there, and the bed of course. Just stay away from the rolling chair over there," she pointed to a small desk in the corner that looked out one of the few windows in the cabin," and the papers on it. I need those for, uh... work."

She deftly flipped a grilled cheese into the air, catching it on a plate. "Do you like tomato soup with your grilled cheese? I think I've still got a few cans of it left."

It's no problem! Take as much time as you need to reply. I'm working on updating the character profile while I'm waiting anyway, so you've got time. ;3
Also, I don't have classes tomorrow because of MLK day, so I can stay up as late as we need to. You don't have any classes or anything tomorrow, do you?

Atasah reached into the cabinets again, the sound of cans scraping against the wood was heard as she rummaged about, finally pulling out a small campbell's can of tomato soup. She poured the contents into a pot, setting it on another burner on the stove, stirring it slowly as the soup heated up. She flipped up the second grilled cheese, passing the plate over to Nick.

"Here ya go," she said," the soup's gonna take a bit longer. Sorry about that. You want a blanket or anything? You can pull the comforter off the bed if you want."

"What are you getting into back there," Atie said, smiling back at him. This was good. He was getting comfortable around her. That was exactly what she needed when she made her offer. For the time being though, he was still too innocent for her to do anything with him. She pulled out a couple of bowls, spooning the soup out for the two of them as she sat down at the folding table she used as a dining table. She motioned for him to join her.

"Come over here," she said, indicating the chair across from her," you can't eat soup while you're laying down on the couch. You can bring the comforter with you and wrap yourself in it."

She bit into her own grilled cheese, laughing a bit to herself as the melted cheese slipped from the sandwich and wrapped down underneath her chin. She wiped it up, licking the melted cheese off her fingers.

"So, how is it? I'm not a master chef, but I hope it's good at least."

Atasah paused for a moment, a spoonful of soup held halfway to her mouth. She slowly set it down. He didn't seem to have anything further to say on the matter. Was it possible that he knew what she was already? If he really knew, why hadn't he tried to run off then?

"What kind of energy," she responded, leaning back in the chair," what makes you think I'm not human?"

Atasah pulled up another careful spoonful of soup. She held it to her lips, slowly blowing on it as she looked at the kid across the table from her. She took another careful sniff at the air, not to smell the soup, but to check the child. He still had the same smell that he did, but the innocence she thought she had smelled earlier was beginning to waver. She chomped down on the spoon, withdrawing it from her mouth only to set it in the bowl upright.

"So, how do you figure I'm a demoness? And if I really am one, then why wouldn't you be afraid of me," she asked him, her words measured carefully. The game had started much quicker than she had expected, but he wasn't beyond her control, that much she knew for certain. He would be hers by the end of all of this. The question was how long it would take.

Atasah sat up in her chair, crossing her legs as she looked over at the boy," well, that's a nice thing for you to say, though, I'd appreciate if you'd stop calling me a demoness."

She stretched, her back cracking as she came back down in a huff. "I'm glad that you think I'm kind, even if you think I'm a demon," she yawned, placing a hand in front of her mouth to stifle it," I'm tired, how about you?"

She looked out the window. The sun was beginning to dip lower in the sky. It wouldn't be long before night was on them.
"What do you say we hit the hay? I think we've both had a long day, and I know I always sleep well when I have food in my stomach."

She gathered up the plates, setting them aside to wash later. She grabbed a blanket from a chest that lay in front of the bed, spreading the blanket out across the bed. She turned around to the kid.

"Um... Nick, could you turn around for a sec? I gotta change into my PJ's."

Atasah slipped into a pair of satin pajama pants. She kept the band tee on. Her feet were cold against the wooden panels that lined the floor, but she didn't mind as much. Once she crawled into bed, she'd warm up quick enough. She glanced over to Nick, noticing the tears that began to roll down his cheeks again. He was allowing himself to be vulnerable in front of her, and that was what she needed.

She glided over to him, her feet barely making a sound against the floor as she set down on the couch, placing a hand on his head.

"Hey, what're you crying for," she asked quietly," you keep telling me how kind I am to you. Why's that making you cry?"

She hugged him back just as tightly. She slowly smoothed his hair as a smile crept across her features. What she was doing was working. His trust was slowly but surely falling on her, and that was exactly what she was waiting for. That was when she would ask her question, when she would make him the offer of his lifetime, and at that point, she would know his answer, and so would he.

"Shhh," she quietly consoled him, continue to smooth down his hair, stroking his head in a gentle rhythm," let's get some rest. Tomorrow's going to be a brand new day. Here, why don't you sleep with me, that way you don't have to feel lonely. Besides, it'll be warmer than sleeping on the couch. And in the morning, I think I'll make some pancakes. How does that sound?"

The demoness slowly stood, picking up the comforter and walking over to the side of the bed. She spread out the comforter back over the blanket before flicking off the space heater. It'd be no good if the thing set a fire in the middle of the night. She sat down on the side of the bed, looking over at her desk. She thought a moment before standing up and shuffling the letters that lay strewn about its surface together, setting them in a small drawer on the desk itself. When she was satisfied that the letter's contents were safe from curious eyes she slipped back into the bed, feeling the warmth from the kid combine with her own as the two drifted off to sleep to wait for the morning.

This was good. Things were going according to plan. She'd have him soon. It wouldn't be long now.

Atasah awoke just before dawn. She slid out of the bed and away from Nick. He continued to sleep, which was to her benefit. She moved over to the stove, setting the burner back on as she shivered. The cabin had gotten cold overnight, and she was forced to flick back on the space heater in hopes that it might heat the room back up. There were ice crystals formed on the windows, at least, there was ice on what little of the windows wasn't covered in snow. She looked outside to see that, in fact, the snow had piled up all around the cabin overnight, and that the two of them would now be trapped inside.

She smiled to herself as she set about cooking breakfast. This meant that Nick couldn't escape. She had him where she wanted him. Like she had said before, it was only a matter of time. Just, a matter of time.

"Good morning Nick," she replied, continuing to cook. She flipped a pancake up in the air, catching it with the pan as she cooked the other side of it. "You know, I'm not your mom, right?"

She added the pancake to the small stack she had going. The more comfortable he got with her, the more easily she could take him. That was her only goal in this, and it seemed as if it was going to be an easy enough job. The only thing that was left to determine was whether or not he was going to be the right one for the job. She turned back to him, a plate full of pancakes in her hands.

"Well, here's breakfast," she said, setting the plate down on the table in front of Nick. She pulled out a bottle of maple syrup and put it down in front of him as well. "Go ahead and dig in. You're going to need your strength for today."

She smiled at him, placing her chin the palm of her hand. "I'm glad you like them Nick," she said, leaning against the table.

She moved back over to the plates she had stacked up the previous night, placing them in the sink to begin soaking while Nick ate. It wasn't going to be long now. She'd sit him down once he was done eating. He had a lot of things that needed to be explained to him, but in the end, she was confident he would see things her way. They always did. Besides, she had been doing this long enough to know when they were their most vulnerable.

While Nick was distracted with eating, she walked over, putting on another pair of pants and replacing her shirt with another similarly designed shirt with black lettering against the red shirt instead of the other way around. She stretched languidly, waiting for Nick to finish his breakfast.

She motioned for him to come and sit next to her on the couch. She sat back, looking up at the ceiling of the cabin for a little while, her mind processing through the scripts that she would go through in this situation. She finally found it in the databanks in her head as she leaned forward, bringing her hands together as she spoke quietly.

Atasah patted him gently on the head," Are you sure you just wandered here from Wing City? You don't remember anything happening there? You don't know what guided you here?"

The space heater in the corner began to pop and sizzle slowly, the heat slowly gathering around the room as Atie spoke. She placed her arm around him gently, wiping away at the tears that were starting up.

"I never said that I didn't want you as my son," she said quietly," I just knew that I could never replace your real mother. Nick, you are not some pawn in a grand scheme. You're much more than that."

She gently wrapped his arms around him," I have to ask you again, do you remember how you got here? Think hard. You have to think back to before you were in the dark woods. You can't remember anything happening to you?"

"Nick, listen to me," she started, the space heater beginning to make more and more noise as its metal grew red hot," I'm not trying to use you. I'm not lying to you. I won't betray you. I'm here to give you a second chance. You don't understand what's going on here. That's what I'm trying to explain."

The space heater was beginning to catch on fire. Atie had stood and moved to the door, she was holding it shut, not that it really mattered, there was nothing but a wall of ice and snow on the other side.

"You have to think back Nick, you don't remember how you really got to the woods, to that path, do you? You can't remember what guided you, do you?"
