Appearance:

'Caleb' is a fairly intimidating figure. He's tall with an amount of muscle that, along with the pistol at his side, shows he can take care of himself in a bar fight. However, for those who fancy looking closer at this mysterious man, his eyes are far more deadly han any bullet. The dark, experienced eyes have a broken ring of yellow in them that appear to be the window to some lost world that no one should dare venture to. Long hair hangs over his ears and around the high cheekbones and sharp jaw. 'Caleb' seems to have a constant, neatly trimmed beard. His sun dried skin has the same feel as a leather hide and has a color that makes it look constantly sunburned. The clothes Caleb normally chooses is a dusty undershirt tucked into a pair of regular jeens with a belt and buckle thrown on. On top of the undershirt is a dark colored, button-up shirt usually left open. Caleb has a dark blue cowboy hat that he keeps pulled low and what would a cowboy hat be without a pair of boots to go along with it?

Abilities:

Hell's Flames: Caleb can create massive shapes of flames that rival that of the surface of the sun.

Heaven's Arches: Caleb can summon lightning down from the sky even if there are no clouds. They say the thunder that follows can deafen a man.

That Which Does Not Kill You: The same thing that brought him back to life makes it so that every time Caleb is injured he becomes stronger and his powers increase damaticaly.

Fog of Deception: The cigar in Caleb's teeth can produce a powerful fog completely neutralizing all sensing and tracking abilities or devices.

And Death Followed Him: Caleb's touch is one of ice and if he wills it, the touch will infect the opponent with a horrid decay. The parts of the body infected turn a gray-green and look dead. It will also turn scaley or bug-like.

So begins...

Caleb. rides slowly on the back of his near colorless horse, a cigar rested between his teeth that had a large ammount of smoke . Caleb. rode silently as the sand blew hard, howling almost. His cigar giving out a ton of smoke, almost enveloping the side of his head. The pale horse took one step after the other, looking as if nearly dead. A literal darkness seemed to be right behind him. As if dusk were shackled to the horse or Caleb himself. A rifle was in its holster on the side of the horse and two pistols were at Caleb's own sides. He was dressed as he usually was and his black hat was pulled very low.

Caleb. did not look up but pulled on the reigns of his horse lightly, without a word. The smoke from his cigar drifted quickly away as the wind blew hard. Rain, something the Wasteland had not seen for centuries if ever, was now falling on the widebrimmed hat of Caleb. The colorless horse neighed and tried to back away but his master kept him straight.

It was now that Caleb looked up at the sky, touching his neatly trimmed beard and smiling a small bit. Something was up there and he was the only one around. The darkness, although slight, remained behind him.

Caleb. had to actually put his hand up to block the light that his hat did not. He raised an eyebrow to the plant life and now the horse did back up a little. "Woooe...Hey ain't no harm coming..." Caleb patted the horse's neck before looking back up, waiting for whatever grand spirit revealed itself.

Caleb pulled a small flask and took a sip as he waited. "They sure do know how to make an entrance don't they?" He said to himself and rubbed the scruffy beard once more.

Caleb. slowly, calmly, and with a groan pulled the rifle from its holster. He did not know what this being was but it had just come down from a majestic gate, of all the places, where Caleb was and was now making grand displays. Drama queens...

The rifle was pointed into the air and fired once. The loud bang hopefully interupted all the special effects this being was giving. "Just get down to business already," Caleb pushed the lever out on the rifle which ejected the cartridge. He was sure this thing was here to plague him but that was ok, "What are you here for?"

Caleb. took a long drag on the cigar and smoke came out of his nose and mouth as he looked on at the two new comers, a faint grin played at his lips. "A man cannot ride his horse through the desert?" He chuckled and whipped the reigns lightly, the horse started forward at a slow walk, "Shame... Really," As he moved so did the dusk behind him.

The man tipped his hat at the two and got down off the horse, he was about half-way to them from his original spot. The cigar's end burning like an everlasting ember. He need not ask who these being were, although he did know the exact terms, they were obviously 'holy' figures, not something he cared for greatly.

Caleb. kept puffing away on the cigar, now with a slight frown. His eyes were mostly dark save the broken ring of yellow in them which were like light coming from cracks in a wall. "If you didn't notice I shot towards the sky... She was down there," He pointed to where she now stood, the staff had been stuck there when she was doing the 'exam'. "Do not bear false witness... Is that not one of your laws?" Caleb stood loosely, looking extremely relaxed but at the same time like someone with a life of stress.

The cigar burned slightly brighter as more smoke came from Caleb's nose and mouth. The yellow in his eyes become suddenly bright, "You're both fools and you know it. Walk away now if you wish... However, you will take back what you said," Caleb stood, still fairly loose, but his face had become rigid, irritated, almost angered.

"She is begging you and all you do is walk? I pity Heaven for actually letting you so much as exist much less stay inside its pearly gates," The cigar smoke that had been floating around was mysteriously not dissipating. "You act as if you don't care or know the severity of the situation. I do not ask much just for you to hear the miss out,"

There was now somewhat of a bubble of whispy gray smoke around the four of them. Darkness had retaken the outside where the young Purifier had caused light. The smoke would have the same effect as the Bermuda triangle does on planes.

“ [color=olive]The smoke quickly went away as normal cigar smoke would. Caleb stood for a short time... simply standing and nothing more. Slowly he pulled out one of the revolvers and began to fiddle with it, pulling the hammer back and then pushing it forward, spinning the 6-cartridge this way and that. Finally he took a tight grip and fired off all six rounds where the gate had once been. He reloaded the gun and repeated the process, firing off six rounds. "Ignorant sons of bitches..." Caleb spoke rather softly and the reholstered his gun. It was only now he turned to the trainee. "And you just let them walk away?" Caleb didn't give her a chance to use the excuse of the 'rules', "Well that's too bad I suppose..." The stub of a cigar burned red for a second as he took al ong drag, "So what do I do with you? I have to redeem you or something? Or is it one of those hopeless situations where your life as you know it is over?" Caleb's words in any other tone of voice would have been insulting but he had a way with words that few ”

Caleb. raised an eyebrow, "Moss you do realize that I myself do not have a home. I have a house but not a home..." He smiled and walked back to the horse. "If you wish you can stay there. I do not actually live there anyway," He took the cigar out of his mouth and sighed, "It's still a long ways... Can you... yaknow fly or anything?" Caleb bit back down on the burning stub of a cigar and whipped the reigns, making the horse trot forward to where the young lady lay, seemingly breaking.

Caleb. shrugged slightly and the horse walked up beside her. "It's a long way... So I don't want to hear complaining," The man would wait for this new guest to get up and sit behind him. Out in the distance was nothing but sand and sky, all the same color from the constant wind that mixed the two. It was like walking into a colliadscope of tan and blue. "Let's go..." He whipped the reigns and the horse began to walk again.

Caleb. sighed, knowing it was about to turn into a long day, "Just give me your hand..." He reach down and gently helped the small angelic figure clamber up onto the pale horse just as he started to ride away. "It's one room... well more like four walls and part of a roof... The ground is solid though so you don't have to worry about getting your clothes dirty or whatever. One small cot and a blanket. I used to have a pillow until this bastard got hungry," He spurred the horse who sped up for a second and then slowed back down. Caleb chewed at the end of the cigar for a moment as if thinking about what he was going to say but then went back to being silent.

Caleb. rolled his eyes, "No no you're the one who has the cot and whatnot. Like I said I don't stay at the house," He grinned and puffed on the cigar, "So the exam... How do you do it?" This was a sudden change of subject but it interested him greatly. To know how an angel-in-training or whatever she was, he did not know, came to be a full fledged one...

Caleb. wanted to shake his head and simply groan. She wanted to purify evil... and seemed to be afraid of being by herself. "Look no one else is out in this area at all. It's inhospitable... means ain't nobody can live out here," The actual 'house' was merely plywood and sheet metal bound together with various things. The floor was solid, as he said, and made of wood. "So these counts... How do you come by them? I mean I remember school a little and the teacher always had some way to get extra credit... Maybe one way is to not let that staff fall into the wrong hands?" He chuckled, the staff would look like a twig on the horizon now.

Caleb. nodded and pulled hard on the reigns with a slight smirk, "Well you need your walking stick... I know that much," The horse went faster and faster until in a full sprint. Caleb made sure his passanger didn't fall off with a little adjustment and they were at the pole in no time.

He hopped off without a word and walked around it a few times. "The jerks that left you here... Why didn't they take it?" He pulled out a rag and dabbed some sweat off his forehead.

Caleb. swatted in the direction, of course not hitting because she was on the horse and he by the staff, of the young angelic being. "I'm not leaving you quit your whining," He bent down and looked closer at the staff. It would be idiotic to simply take it and he did not have the time to bless the area or whatever it would take to move it in a safe fashion. However, he knew that, unlike many believed, the Wasteland was full of all sorts of beings and that one way or another it would be gone by the time the opressive sun rose the next morning to torture the already scorched land. "So you can't touch it eh? Well that means that I shouldn't even be able to look at it really," Caleb tossed the rag onto the staff.

The horse would flip its main and neigh happily. Caleb only smiled at the two. "Well there must be some way to move it... You really don't understand who comes through here do you?" He shrugged and started to go back to his horse but suddenly whipped around. "So tell me... The ground... Why does it not just turn it all to feathers and slip right below?" Caleb grinned as he looked down at the sand.

Caleb. chuckled and nodded, "He looks like death walking though," It was true that the horse held a dark beauty, being so pale wasn't exactly natural for a horse.

"The sand is already reduced to nothing..." He said quietly to himself and started to dig away on one side of the staff, it would fall and land softly on the sand. "So... Natural things... Things untouched and corrupted by man..." Caleb nodded and started covering the staff with sand, "I can't move it. To move it I'd have to make something but the staff seems to destroy anything tampered with by man. A sort of loop... However, I can hide it," After that Caleb climbed back on the horse, this time behind the young girl so she could lay on the horses neck if need be. He whipped the reigns hard and the horse bolted off. They would arrive in around ten minutes.

Caleb. smiled and shook his head, "Don't let that go to your head you hear me?" He was also speaking, jokingly, to the horse. "My name?" It had been a very long time since someone had asked his name. Since he had been reanimated, he never used his real name but went by Caleb instead, "Jackson... Caleb Jackson... That's what they like to call me these days. Either that or the Preacher,"

Caleb. slowed the horse down ever so slightly and frowned, "No... who said that Miss Ellie?" He asked with a kind smile, "That wasn't very polite whoever did it," Caleb again sped up the horse, the house was close now and he could just see a speck that was probably. "Why did they say that anyway?"

Caleb looked back over his shoulder, the slight darkness that followed them was still there, tied to his back it seemed. IT had always been that way, people feeling it got dimmer and more somber once Caleb entered an area. That was just one of his talents he supposed.

Caleb. groaned a bit, wanting to pop her up side the head and tell her to snap out of it. "You're not going to be doing this all the time are you? Running around worried that one or two people in the world said something..." He stopped short of the house and squinted. "Ellie... I'm leaving you for only a second I promise," Caleb pulled the rifle out of the holster and hopped down off his horse. He approached the house, that was around 200 yards away, slowly.

Caleb. walked crouched all the way to the tiny shack. He went around to the door, which was in back. A moment later a few shots rang out and another moment Caleb stepped out from around the house. "Listen! Ellie I want you to stay there for another minute ok?" he then dissapeared back around into the house.

One more shot would cry out and then a minute later Ellie would feel Caleb touch her shoulder, he hoped he wouldn't have scared her but knew it had... she seemed like a very timid soul. "Let's go inside now," Caleb said softly as he took the reigns of the horse and walked it to the building slowly. "About what those guys at the bar said. If they ever do it again, kill them. Both of them on the spot," He was soft spoken but his words were in a serious tone. "That is... if you have lost hope in your dream. If you are willing to accept that your goal of becoming a Purifier are now impossible then, to survive, you must do as the world does,"

Caleb. walked the horse a little further, to a small post, which he tied it up to. The man came back and stood over the girl, casting a long shadow that covered her body, blocking the viscious sun, his arms crossed. "Then what? Are you 'free' now? By failing three times you become free from this thing you have to do?" Caleb offered his hand to Elaine in case she felt like getting out of the sand.
