--- THE PAST
Steelfist stood before the group, surrounding them with countless Mankeys. Elder rolled to an unconscious lump in front of Radegast. βOdor Sleuthβ¦ Huhβ¦β Radegast crouched down to place a hand on the Ghastlyβs head. βGood try, bud,β he said as he recalled the Ghastly into the safety of the modified pokeball. Only unconscious would Elder tolerate the device.
Radegast stood up, towering over the clan that filled most of their vision. The Primeape spat poison-infused saliva, ignoring the Toxic that Elder had managed to apply. βWeak,β Steelfist huffed as he flexed. He was bigger than Rage, even bigger than even Rage remembered.
βLet me get this straight,β Radegast stuffed his hands into his pockets, βYour prideβs hurt and youβre not gonna let bygones be bygones?β
βMy rule of the region will be absolute just as soon as I destroy the only one who had beaten me before.β Steelfist jabbed a finger at the human, but kept his eyes on the single Mankey that was not part of the crowd. βThis human is your new trainer? He has done little to improve your skills compared to me. I will break him to prove to the world that none can best me.β
βNO!β Rage shrieked, but Steelfist was fast for a Primeape. He burst forward. The fist was sent to Radegastβ¦ and just as easily pulled away.
None saw what happened mere microseconds before, but before they knew it, the Fletchling was shredding the Primeape. Terrible pecks were delivered with the rapidity of a minigun. Clumps of fur were sent in all directions, barely doing anything to muffle the screaming. The surrounding clan of Mankeys grew pale and stiff like marble as even blood spurt and lashed the ground with crimson.
βSuros! Dude!β Radegast called as he just then realised what just happened.
Just as quickly as she began, she darted back to the humanβs shoulder. The Primeape lay, broken and bleedingβ¦ but still breathing. Steelfist rolled to his side with a pained groan.
βHoly shit dude!β Radegastβs hand automatically reached for a potion.
βNO!β Rage bellowed.
βDude, heβs hurt!β Radegast held up the potion as Rage limped between him and Steelfist. βHeβsβ¦β
βCRIPPLED,β Rage replied. He indicate the Primeapeβs legs. They bent the other way in a gross fashion, βNO POTION CAN HELP HIM. WE NEED TO LEAVE NOW!β
Radegast felt the eyes of the terrified Mankey surrounding them. Slowly, that fear turned into hate, and their eyes began to twitch.
βNOW!β Rage tugged at Radegastβs cargo pants to pull him along. βBEFORE MOB MENTALITY STRIKES!β
Radegast clenched his teeth, cursed, and pocketed the potion once more. He then began to run. Suros yawned as the furious cries of an entire clan emitted behind them. They shouted wordless cries of hate and curses.
None could catch up to Radegastβs longer stride, nor Rageβs superior speed. If there were any who could, they wouldβve contended with Suros.
βSuros,β Radegast panted as the cries shifted from anger to mourning. After an hour of running, the Mankeys had given up, far far behind. βYou okay?β
βSteelfist wanted to harm you,β Suros simply replied as she buried her head under a wing to roost.
βDoesnβt mean you should cripple a dude,β Radegast replied, βRemember when we met Rage?β
βI UNDERSTAND WHY YOU DID IT,β Rage harrumphed, βBUT IT WAS TERRIBLE, WHAT YOU DID!β
βEh, thatβs fair,β Suros shrugged, βSo long as the Lord-Regent is safeβ¦β
Radegast pursed his lips together, βDonβt worry so much about me, buddy. I can handle myself,β he lied.
--- IN THE SUBWAY, THE PRESENT
βHalf-lied, you mean,β Elder quipped. βNow that the damβs no longer classified.β
βYeah, I guess,β Radegast chuckled.
βSucks that I missed it, though,β Elder rolled his eyes, βBeing knocked-out and all,β
βWell, thatβs why you asked for the story while we waited for all this to deal with itself, isnβt it?β Radegast asked. Suros sighed while roosting on Radegastβs shoulder. βSo long as you donβt cripple any more,β the fifteen-year-old added.
βI donβt feel like crippling things most of the time anyway,β the Fletchinder whistled.
βI see youβve been practicing your Pokespeak,β Margriet noted.
βI honestly have no idea what theyβre saying,β Radegast replied without looking up.
βItβs more about reading intention,β Margriet said, βThatβs something Daddy and Uncle Tarma always knew.β
βPops and Tarma do know Pokespeak, though.β
βThat also helps.β
Logan produced his phone as he directed late evacuees into the subway. He called Marcus. βItβs Logan, are you-β he paused for a moment, βYes, Iβm aware of whatβs happening in Nimba- β¦ Yes, theyβre safe. Theyβre in the subwayβ¦ Hang on,β he put Marcus on speaker phone and brought the phone to the siblings.
βIβm glad you didnβt join the fight,β Marcus replied, βThere is a lot of political mumbo jumbo and miscommunication thatβs made the entire situation incredibly confusing. If you had gone in, you might have been arrested.β
βAre you doing anything about it?β Margriet asked.
βIβm no official of any political standing, so my place is ensuring the safety of my family, even if theyβre runaways.β Margriet stole a knowing glance at her younger brother.
Radegast couldnβt help but look at the Sandslash, Sabre, still tied up and under Rageβs and Elderβs watchful eye. The Haunter even licked the Sandslash before the story to ensure paralysis prevented any attempt to break the binds. βJust a precaution. You did try to kill the Lord-Regent,β Elder had smirked.
βYou sure you donβt want to come home after this?β Margriet asked Radegast, βAfter this travelling? It hasnβt been the same for five years.β
βIβd have been happy to have vanished, to be honest,β Radegast crossed his arms, βWith friends like these, Iβm already the greatest I need to be.β
Margriet did not smile. βStill donβt agree, eh?β
Marcus added, βEven Tarma agrees, you need to-β
βWhatβs that?β Radegast rose from his seated position. The ground rumbled, but the incredibly sturdy architecture of the subway held. βDamn, must be some intense fighting out there.β
βStay safe,β Marcus said, βStay in the subway unless itβs compromised, and follow government instructions if there are any broadcasted. You got an electric-type with you?β
βSir!β the Operative was out and about, patrolling the area.
βYo Op, you able to catch radio signals down here?β Radegast asked.
βI would be an embarrassment to the unit if I couldnβt!β the Galvantula saluted.
βThanks buddy,β Radegast smirked.
βGood, keep an ear out for broadcast signals from Ruulan government or police. Stay safe.β Marcus then hanged up.
Radegast and Logan exchanged glances. βThat Primeapeβs pretty strong,β Logan said, βTook out Marth in one punch.β
βIs Marth gonna be another grudge-holder?β Radegast joked.
βNah, he knows about you and Palkia,β Logan smirked, βItβs no big deal.β
βFive years,β Margriet hummed thoughtfully as she fully registered what Radegast said, βYouβve made a lot of enemies, havenβt you?β
βLotta friends too,β Radegast shrugged, βCanβt expect the world to love you.β
βSpeak for yourself,β Margriet huffed in a very diva-like fashion.
βI will, Marge,β Radegast smirked.
βYou want me to throw you out of the subway entrance, bro?β
