Everett Devlin's Story

Everett Devlin falling out of a cloud of black smoke Everett hit the ground with a roll. Slowly rising to his feet the male checked himself over, his hands moving across his coat. A finger poked through a bullet hole as he sighed. "Too close." He muttered under his breath. His skull masked head twisted to his side abruptly as something caught his attention. "What do you mean?" He asked the air as the black cloud of smoke started to dissipate. A moment later his eyes gazed over the city Tawa. "Where are we?" He asked the air once more. His eyes blinked as he tried to figure it out.

The city lights of Tawa twinkled below Everett through the early morning fog. The Air smelled of salt, and the city seemed to have been built snugly in a bay. Tall redwood trees and a steep mountain face also greeted Everett, with trees around him, and sheer mountain facing before him.

It seemed he was in the middle of wilderness overlooking the city. The planet's star patterns were visibly different, there was no moon, and a various assortment of starships, space stations, and massive shipyards dotted the sky, and at his altitude, could be seen with relative clarity.

The air was clean, and the lights of ships on the horizon could be made out. An Alien world that seemed to be bustling before him.

"..." Everett was speechless as he stared at the city and the sky. To him it felt like he was in a movie or a dream. A shiver running down his spine he pulled off the mask, setting it to his side. He rubbed his eyes and shook his head with some form of hope that the world would return to normal. No luck befell him. "What." The first sound he made before looking around his surroundings. "Take us back." His voice grew bitter as he talked to himself. "What do you mean you can't take us back?" He growled before fishing out his phone and checking it. "Why did I even think I'd get service here..." Everett muttered put it back in his pocket. "... You'll be able to take us back eventually right?" He asks his voice growing weaker.

A deep breath and a sigh his hand reached down and pulled up the mask. "Do you even know where we are? Is this the future?" He asks staring up at the sky. "Well I suppose my guess is better than yours in this case. Did the king tell you to take us here?" His eyes gazed over the patterns in the star before descending slowly towards the city. "So it was an accident is what you're telling me. Well fucking hell, this isn't just a small one." He groaned momentarily as he started walking forward. "Let's hope they don't think I'm some form of evil alien. And hope there's someone who speaks some form of English or... Earth... Language..." As he started moving forward he glanced around. "Give me a heads up if someone is walking up on us." He whispers.

Perhaps it was a heads up, or perhaps it was the crunching of gravel. But someone was coming up on Everett, perhaps it was an animal, or maybe something else.

There was a sudden twig snap, and upon inspection, a young human male was seen standing between a large redwood, and an assortment of various shrubs. He brought his flashlight to bear on the figure in front of him.

"Exterruerat mihi tu di perduint!" He exclaimed, before figuring the man as just another hiker. "Putavi te esse ursi." He said, shining the flashlight, which illuminated with a brilliant white-blue hue.

"Quid foris facis seram?" He inquired, and upon close inspection, a baggy blue hoodie, and cargo pants could be made out, along with short, cropped hair.

Everett stood still in his tracks as his eyes darted to the source of the sound. He stared fixated on the person. "Of course they don't speak English." He groaned to himself before keeping quiet and trying to make out the language. "You understand him?" He muttered under his breath. A moment later he nodded to himself before raising his right hand slowly. He waved to the man and spoke. "Do you understand me?" He glanced around himself looking for anyone else. And so did the other entity.

"Yes." Orlin replied, this time in English, though with a slight accent that was somewhat difficult to place.

"You don't speak Anquietas?" This time the young McGregor was assuming either a tourist from UCON or someone from the outer colonies.

Question still stands, though, What are you doing out here, this late?" He asked, tilting his head slightly, keeping the flashlight leveled on Everett.

"There's Ursii out here, dangerous creatures." He said, gesturing him over.

"Come on, let's get back to my car, I was just out here checking my oil before I head home. You need a ride?"

He remained quiet for a few moments as Everett thought to himself. His eyes poured over the other man studying him as he weighed out his responses. "I must admit I am fairly lost, I'm travelling right now and my guide led me astray and well then my absent mindedness led me even further astray." He glanced around him. "I wasn't told about any Ursii around here." He spoke his voice soft yet slightly raspy.

He looked back to the man. "What do you mean by checking your oil? All the way out here in the woods?" He asks his caution starting to rise. "I have heard there's more than just wildlife out here to be worried about. Especially for someone who is by himself at night."

"Well, I had to use the bathroom too, hence being out in the woods." He admitted, before he gestured back to the nearby road. The road striping was glowing a soft blue-green, which was typical of Aschen roadways.

"You don't look like anyone from around here, of that I am certain. We should get you somewhere before you're seen." He said, moving his eyes in a quick glance back towards a dark colored car parked on the side of the road, it's brilliant blue-white headlights illuminating the road and some of the forest in front of it.

"Better me than the cops, eh?" Orlin commented.

Everett's eyes narrowed as he stared at the man. He sighed and started to walk forward. "While I might not believe you're out here for simply using the bathroom I don't really have any other means of transport right now. So I'll accept with some grace at the least..."

Watching the road in front of them the entity kept it's watch on Orlin waiting. The man might notice the temperature drop as the entity watched him. "I take it the authorities don't like trespassers?" He asks.

It seemed that if Orlin sensed the Temperature drop, he didn't show it, rather he kept moving towards the car.

"You might not believe that? I have absolutely no problem leaving you here for the next guy. Hell you might get lucky and the LDA will pick you up." He said, the man's eyes flickering an almost icy blue.

"I'm trying to be a good samaritan, after-all..." His expression darkened as he opened the door with a heavy thunk.

"The Government of this world actively hunts and exterminates people like you. You're free to walk the other way, no doubt they've invariably detected you. The Infrastructure of this world is designed to detect even the slightest anomaly. Truth is I sensed you popping in, and I wanted to investigate before the LDA Suits got here." He said, sliding into the driver seat.

"Your call." He added, starting the car.

He glanced up at the sky for a moment before shaking his head and getting into the car. "I apologize for my untrusting nature..." His voice grew quieter as he removed the mask once inside the car and put it between his feet. "Honestly I have no clue where I am. Though considering all the facts I see before me it wouldn't surprise me if the people of this world can 'detect' me." He glanced out the window.

"I assume I've gotten myself into quite a situation..." He had started to feel this whole adventure might end up being the largest mistake he has made yet. Even though he blamed the other one for this trip. "It might be a day or two before I can leave under my own power if I'm truly that unwanted here. Can you tell me what exactly I stepped into?"

The terrarian looks around curiously in the lush landscape within, confused at where he is "I, I was just in the underworld, I defeated that wall, was about to enter the box, saw a bright light, and now I'm here, I know I didn't die as I still have all of my equipment, so where on terra am I?, this doesn't look like any of the forests back home" they say, looking around in their rather coral like armor, their head swiveling alongside their body to get a good look at just where they are

The trees rustled in the soft wind, which was cool and seemed to be coming from the north, the sky was mostly clear with a few white puffy cumulus clouds, and there were contrails from some kind of aircraft that painted a grid in the sky.

Looming on the horizon, appeared to be a planet of some kind, faintly bathed in blue, with whites and greens, and was slowly coming up over the horizon.

The terrarian stares up, and then stares outwards, then somewhat downward "judging by the environment i have 3 real options here, beanpole up with the wood these new strange trees give me, and get the attention of that aircraft, -which is likely a boss-, just plain explore the environment, -which can take forever-, or just find a surface cave and get myself some resources to start over wherever here is, -I bet there's amazing new loot in those caves-," the terrarian says, hoisting themselves up, and opting for option 3, although they do try to chop down a tree for wood, expecting it to just poof into it's loot

When the trees were chopped, the wood of the large redwood trees split, leaving a gash in the bark. A cool breeze kept blowing in from the north, a deafening 'crack' echoed through the mountains, the keen eye would have picked up a distant, but brilliant flash of green light in an adjacent valley.

The terrarian stares awkwardly at the tree realizing, not only did it not break as easily as trees normally do, at least how they normally do in terra , nor did it chop in the same way, but it's not acting in any of the other ways trees normally do, on terra anyways "am, am I even in terra anymore?" they say to themselves thrown for a loop by the tree And opts to go towards the green flash opting to use the wood he was using for platforms to make a work bench, running rather fast with the blue strange boots on their feet, going to a grand surprising total of 34 mph but being decidedly careful around any steep changes in geometry cause of how the tree acted, wondering just what exactly that flash was as they approach
