Description

Description
Kodan

Race: :Lycan (Permanent)

Height: 6'0"

Weight: 168 lbs.

Eyes: Bright Yellow

Appearance:
Kodan is definitely something to look at. Tall and slender, he stands upright like a man, but looks almost entirely like a red wolf in every other respect, spare his hands which sport opposable thumbs and have knuckles that bend in the human way. His lower left canine has been chipped off some time in the past, and a rake of three paralell scars run across his muzzle. The scars aren't entirely visible except in particular lighting. His fur is very well maintained and his manner of dress very formal. He is adorned in a form fitting Tuxedo, complete with white gloves and a very old fashioned bowtie. The only thing you notice missing from the repetoire is shoes, his hind paws are bare and canine-like. He wears no jewelry.

Personality:
Kodan can be described as aloof in most all situations, standing straight with his hands either clasped in front of him or holding some dish or another. If a wolf could look smug, Kodan would be that wolf. He speaks with thought and eloquence put into each word, his smooth voice juxtaposing what first glance would lead you to believe he might sound like. It perfectly matches his clothing, however. While he may seem like he thinks he's better than you, this would not be the case. He is a bit of an obsessive compulsive, and needs things to be exactly right. Especially before any large events. Kodan also has a very good eye for fine art and decor, but will only divulge his opinions if directly asked.

History:
Kodan is tight lipped about his past, where he is from, or if he has anyone related to him. He will change the subject to a fine wine he is trying to push on you, or reccommend a dish for you to try. The more any of these things are brought up, the more visually distraught and frazzled he gets, but still always maintains his composure. He would like any conversation to be about anyone or anything but him. So, why not try the Beef Wellington?

So begins...

Kethyr Naethus followed his nose, wherever it goes, and it lead him to this place of memories. There was a town, he didn't remember that, and they let him in, which was even more odd. The place reeked of bloodsucker scum. But there, slipping into Tauvyr Tavern, was the smell. He followed it in and took a seat. Kethyr for the first time in a long time realized he, too, smelled very...bad.

's nose wrinkled at the sensory overload as he fought to maintain his stoic, professional complexion. Kodan could smell it too, however. Undead. Not exactly his first idea of a safe place, especially considering his Lycan appearance. But the paper he had found when he first got into town had told him of the Tauvyr Tavern, with open positions for a waiter. He had the experience for it, whether he wanted it or not. And his new life might as well start on an interesting chapter.

Kethyr kept to the corners of the room. He slinked onto a bar stool, ragged clothes catching the disgusted eye of a few customers. He took no notice. Instead, the ginger haired gentleman bore holes into Kodan.

It had been years, but here in the bar was one of him.

Kodan, while looking over the bar for a person who worked there, could feel knives being stared into his back. His eyes closed as he sighed, rolling them back into his head before opening them back up, straightening up his back to turn and find the culprit making his skin crawl. He saw, and smelled, Kethyr staring wide eyed at him. Kodan cleared his throat, clearly looking a bit annoyed by the sudden attention. "May I be of assistance, sir?"

Kodan continued to look to either side of the path he was currently on. He wouldn't admit it, even to himself, but he was splendidly lost. While the scenery and scents were all very pleasant, he couldn't fight the urge stemmed deep in his subconscious to get out of this place. He had been here too long, and of course with his features and clothing he couldn't help but stand out. He attempted to calm his nerves as he walked through the garden, telling himself yet again there was a very slim chance anyone was looking for him anymore. It had been a very long time. Weeks, perhaps. Unconsciously he turned his nose into the wind as it picked up, watching the ripples flow through the fields. Certainly a long ways away from his roots to be certain. Meandering down the path, Kodan brushed his hand along the top of the flora, inner thoughts beginning to evaporate as he fell into a serene state of solitude. Becoming so preoccupied with enjoying this moment, he barely even noticed the other person strolling through the same area.

As Eiki was walking through the garden, she noticed Kodan also admiring the greenery.
"Again?" she mumbled. It was about the second or third time she had seen an unusual person. Though, she was already getting used to it. Eiki was starting to think it was some culture where youkai don't change. Alongside looking for Komachi, she was also looking for people to interrogate with about the place. Mostly about information about the place and if they had seen her. She was hoping to finish the next day. Despite her goals, Eiki could look for someone else as Kodan looked only like a common civilian.

As Kodan continued to admire the scenery, a heretofore unnoticed stump portruding from the ground found its way in front of Kodan's foot. Dissapearing under the field of green and blue his snout hit the ground before he could protectively outstretch his arms. With a snarl his introspective mood came to an end, a dull pain moving up from the tip of his nose into his head. Kodans hands shot up instinctively, his left pulling back from his nose to show a small pool of blood.

Kodan began to curse and mutter to himself, wiping off the blood on a nearby plant, very careful not to get any on his clean white shirt. He tilted his nose up and began to dust off his tuxedo, still cursing under his breath.

Eiki looked at the fox, cursing on the floor. She was startled by the loud thud.
While looking, she felt disapproval and worry at the same time.
She would have just ignored the trip, but she did see the blood. So Eiki decided to see if he was okay. “Oh. Are you okay?” She expectedly said. She started walking up to the fox with some concern. Looking around, it appeared that he had tripped on a obvious stump on the ground. It was difficult to see how someone could miss something like that.
He appeared clean cut and well dressed, with formal attire. She wondered why he would wear something like that outside.

Kodan kept his nose upturned, clearly slightly startled by the intrusion. He got to his feet as quickly as he could. Instinct snapped his posture straight as he turned to face Eiki and get a look at her. Nervously he laughed, a slightly bitter and nasally tone ringing through.

"Yes Madame." He said quietly through his hand, held over his mouth and nose again.

"Only a minor debaucle to assess. Nothing to worry about at all." His voice was uncommonly smooth and with a highborn accent, matching his attire much better than his physique.
Eyeing her as he once again wiped his hand off, again being careful to get none on his clothes. At least it was letting up, even if the dull ache began to replace the sharp pain.

"I've not travelled much.. In my days..." He trailed off, checking his hand for blood once more and finding his hand dry.

"This place... It is so beautiful and open..." He said, once again looking across the sea of green.

"Free."

He said under his breath, almost to himself. He turned back to her. "But excuse me for my intrusion upon your stroll madame, if you would allow me my leave I shall be out of your way post haste." With this he gave an overly formal bow, complete with a hand twirl. As polite as he was being, it was somewhat apparent he was slightly nervous and was not expecting to see anyone else out here.

Eiki had gotten a little started when she heard the fox talk with a formal demeanour after the cursing. ”Are you sure? It does not look like a simple scrape.” she said eyeing the wound. She wasn’t really sure what she could do, she wasn’t a doctor. Then again it wasn’t like he was stabbed or anything like that, she saw plenty to deaths like that whenever it was the aftermath or the action.

She kneeled in-front of Kodan, one leg forwards and the other backwards. ”Perhaps you could sit on the bench?” She promptly asked. She held his hand, standing up as to suggest to walk to the seats. Eiki took some time to look more at his appearance. He wore a perfect white tuxedo, stained lightly by the blood. Part of the matching white gloves were also stained more by the red. Three scars ran across the muzzle. She thought they were also made by his trip.

She wondered if his attire was part of his legend.

"Pish, Madame." He said dismissively, but still with an heir of respect in his voice.

"I've had bigger scrapes than this I can assure you. Besides..." His voice was still just a bit nasally.
"It seems it's cured itself."
He was visibly off-put when she reached for his hand, pulling it instinctively away as contact was made, an involuntary, quiet growl coming from his mouth. He almost immediately stopped himself, attempting to make it look as though he was coughing instead. Kodan quickly regained his composure, collecting himself and rising to his feet. Clearing his throat, he posited an idea of his own.

"Madame, as elated I am for the concern that you show, it is truly nothing." He gave a sniff.

"But I find myself with no travelling company, as you may well know. I do believe we are headed in similar directions..." The last part was a lie, as Kodan had nowhere to go or be, except out of sight of certain eyes.

"Perhaps an arrangement can be made to traverse to the next village together? I can see no detriment to such an agreement."

He stood up straight, fur and jacket rippling in the breeze in tandem with the fields behind him. As wary as he was of strangers and humans in general, his instincts, for once in his life told him that Eiki was trustworthy enough, at least for a short travel. He gave a small smile to show he was truly alright.

Eiki slightly jerked back her hand a little when Kodan aggressively pulled back and growled. This, lowered her impression of him again, though not by much. It was probably surprising of her to do something like that. She eyed Kodan, faking his coughs. The actions he made so far seemed to contrast his look and speech, aside from the growl. Eiki was conflicted whenether to let him be or be insistent. She receded her reaching hand back to her rod. “Well, I hope so.” she said still suspicious of his state. She could still smell a slight hint of metal, clashing with the lovely scent of the flowers. Eiki could tell she wasn’t okay but she won’t force him.

When Kodan mentioned the suggestion to travel, she felt a slight urge to immediately object.
Trying to go somewhere else from the bustling town was the last thing she needed to do. She didn’t even know the name of the planet. And her subordinate didn’t probably walk very far. ”Well, I haven’t mentioned anything about travel.” she said in response. But the most important part is that she was very good at telling lies. The body language said everything that needed to be said. After all, years of judging can give you a sort of sixth sense. ”It dosen’t seem like you need to be anywhere. And I would rather stay in this settlement.”

Kodan supposed she had a point. He had been traveling for weeks, not staying in one place more than a few days at most. The villages and settlements he had come across had been shifty, and had a few encounters to make him not trust staying put so long. He had only offered because he had erroneously assumed Eiki must be doing the same. Now that his nose was fine, it didn't really matter if he stayed or went. But Eiki had been the first person in quite a while to even give Kodan the time of day.

"Excuse my assumption Madame. I've only seen fellow travelers in the past few weeks and thought you were leaving town as I am. And I suppose you are correct..." He conceded.

"I have nowhere to be. But why are you here?" He asked. "I've been the only one out here for hours. Are you looking for something?" He inquired inquisitively.

”I wouldn’t really delve into that subject. But long story short, I’ve gotten lost and my subordinate seems to have wandered off.” Eiki said. She didn’t want or need to talk about the whole story.

She walked over to the nearby wooden bench, implanted on the grass. Some the rusted legs were overgrown with vines, flowers growing from then. She sat down on the seat, having the bench slightly creak. It looked old and slightly rickety, but it was still a bench. Eiki set down her rod beside her, upright leaning on the back. She took some time eyeing Kodan’s appearance some more. It seemed the more she looked, the more unusual he seemed. Eiki still had her first impressions from earlier, so they still didn’t line up. “You might have not seen a red haired girl carrying a scythe have you? She happens to be my subordinate.” She said asking.

Kodan nodded on politely until he heard the word subordinate. He never liked the idea of servants, paid or otherwise. Of course he had his own deep seeded reasons for this, and knew to keep his mouth shut. Noticing her look him up and down he got slightly self conscious, buttoning up his jacket and shying away. He remained standing.

"I have not seen any such person I regret to inform you Madame." With a small chuckle he continued. "I couldn't even see a stump rooted to the ground!" He let his smile fade somewhat, looking at his paw, more specifically the nails. He began to fan them across his chest.

"And." He said, clearing his throat. "Where, pray, do you think your 'subordinate' is?" He clasped his hands together, back perfectly straight as if he were ready to serve. His ears remained slightly back as he looked to the sitting Eiki for a response.

Eiki could tell that Davien was a bit uncomfortable with the subject, seeing a small twitch from the mention of a servant. So she decided to just keep it short. ”I imagine she is somewhere wandering in this town.” She shortly answered. While she was curious as to why, she wasn’t going to force him to divulge information.

”Oh. I realized I haven’t introduced myself yet. Yamaxanadu Shiki Eiki, the Yama for Gensokyo. Certainly you’ve heard of the profession before?” She introduced.

Kodan tilted his head as his ears perked up listening to Eiki. He shook his head as she asked about her profession. He truly had no clue what she could be talking about, as he barely understood what a street vendor was as far as professions go. Still standing he began to take off one of his gloves.
"My apologies madame, but I am ill versed in the terminoligy of the region. I know not of this 'Gama'" you speak of.

"But I can tell you, ma'am, that my name is Kodan. That is either all I know, or all I shall divulge at the time. I shall let you pontificate upon this." He extended his hand for a handshake with a small, polite smile.

"And the pleasure is mine."

”And mine too...” She said shaking Kodan’s hand, smiling back.

Eiki found it a bit odd why he didn’t know about her profession, but it didn’t matter very much. And while she was planning to ask him about where this place was in Gensokyo, like he said he wasn’t very knowledgeable about the region. Though, that wouldn’t stop her from deciding to have a chat with him, Kodan was very similar to Eiki personality wise. ”So you suppose we have a chat?”

Just then she heard a clunk right beside her. Looking, it seemed her rod fell down. It wasn’t like a death occurred, but she couldn’t stop herself from apologizing.
”Oh. Sorry, I’ll pick it up.” Eiki said in an apologetic tone

Kodan heard the clunk and without consious thought bent down to retrieve it, politely handing it back to Eiki. He dusted it off, more of a formality than anything else, and presented it to her. "No need to apologize Madam Eiki. These things happen." He straightened back up and patted the wrinkles out of his suit before sitting down next to Eiki, almost dwarfing her on the bench. Putting his glove back on, he leaned back into the bench, looking ahead. He was considerably larger than Eiki, and sitting on the bench made him look like an adult at the kids table, with his tail hanging out the back opening. He did his best to scootch all the way to one side as to not crowd Eiki.

"What is it you would like to talk about madame? I haven't had a decent conversation with a civilized mind in what seems like months." He fiddled with his glove, getting the fit just right on his hand before turning an eye to Eiki.

”Oh. Why thanks.”

Eiki was slightly surprised by the seemingly instinctual help, as if he had did it for his survival. Of course, it wasn’t some sort of main focus but it spoke as to his elegance. Speaking of focus, she need to look up, due to the towering nature of Kodan. “Weird”, Eiki thought to herself. she was usually the one taller than her conversation partner. The only people who were as high as her were Yukari, Okina, and Komachi. Again, not the focus. She slowly drummed her fingers on her rod, making a soft wooden noise, blending in with the ambience.

”Actually, I would maybe need some locations. I’m not sure that someone of your personality would know, but do you know any locations similar to pubs or bars?” she inquired. Those last words give her a bad taste in her mouth. She’d always find her slacking of in some food place or patch of flowers, but mostly the former. Especially recently since one of the times caused a whole incident in Gensokyo. Good luck to her if she needed to find her again.

Kodan hesitated. He hadn't even thought of looking for food or any sort of bar. He had just assumed that he wouldn't be welcome inside one, and walked on, deciding he would find sustenance elsewhere. He looked across the horizon, deep in thought.
"Afraid I can't help you there Miss Eiki. I've only just wandered into to town myself and.." He trailed off, wheels turning in his head.
"However, the main street is just north of here. Surely there must be an eatery or pub within the general vicinity. Perhaps you and I should go find it?"
He remained looking over the horizon, involuntarily pointing his nose up in the breeze that had just begun to blow. He would certainly feel a little more comfortable venturing back into the city with some human company and a mission to attend to, but played it off as though he simply wanted to help Eiki.

”Really? What business do you have there?” Eiki asked. While she’d be fine going into such a place, she couldn’t imagine what Kodan would be doing there. The only things that came into mind was quickly grabbing a drink.

”Either way, I’ll agree to the travel” as confirmation.

The breeze was quite calming, yet almost unnoticeable. It was nice.

Eiki got up from the plant ridden bench, causing slight creaking sound from the old wood. She picked up her rod and postured herself finely, turning to face Kodan. ”I believe I’ve been in the street before, so it shouldn’t take long to find the place”. She added. Eiki wasn’t willing to fork over details about how she had gotten into this mess. ”Yukari, I swear...” She silently mumbled. She took this time to slightly stretch, feeling the slight wind.

Kodan politely offered his hand to help her up, but she stood on her own. Awkwardly putting his hand back down he spoke.
"Well madame, I had no business there. Simply through the power of deduction have i arrived upon my conclusion."

As Eiki explained herself, he nodded.
"I suppose there is nothing left to do but proceed." He said quietly, standing up. He began to walk towards the northern main street, calling back to Eiki as one of his ears was fixated on her. "So who is Yukari? I can hear better than people may think." He said with a small chuckle.
