"Kolgano, pay attention, being a spirit guide is more than wielding your guardian as a weapon and fighting for your people. It's about communication, teaching and learning from the spirits in the world around you. Only when you do will your connection with Miras grow stronger." lectured the older Tosq as they walked.

"Father, this is a forest, there are animals, there are plants, I'm not seeing any spirits here." he said, adjusting the straps holding the bracer to his arm.

It was true that these things existed in the forest, animals and trees of all kinds but it was also important to know that within these things, these beings, lay the power of the spirits that the woods offered for those who had come to seek them out. The sound of rushing water was not far off. Shadows suddenly began to move off in the distant background but they were not foreign to this region as many things have happened in the past altering this once beautiful landscape to something different.

Koga smiled at the moving shadows and changed direction, heading towards them, his son in tow. The two shark like men walked in silence now, the burning blue sphere that was Miras manifesting near Kolgano as the spirit often did when she was nervous about something.

Koga's spirit was less apt to show himself and had a far more imposing appearance on the occasions that he did. "I thought we were going to the city father, this doesn't seem the most direct route."

The sound of flowing water grew louder as a babbling brook slowly came into view were a rather large willow sat by its company along with a large flat stone that appeared to have been placed near the tree not by nature but by other beings who inhabited this realm. A breeze passed over the hidden glen and with it came a rather loud yawn from a source that seemed rather different from most of the creatures in the forest. A willow with a face of an old man opened its eyes and looked upon its surroundings with a somewhat quizzical interest in what was going on just to then spot the pair of newcomers.

'What is this?' The trees eyes seemed to look up to the sky above as if expecting an answer just to then look back down at the shark like beings with even more interest than what he had before. "Visitors to an old shrine and an even older friend?"

"Is that tree...talking?" asked Kolgano, reaching out for Miras who formed into a massive great sword with a broad blade. "Put it down son, and yes, I believe he did." his father replied, stepping forward.

"Greetings Old One." said Koga, bowing slightly and making a complex Tosq gesture with his hands meaning respect.

The willow tree looked at Koga with a raised bark covered brow at the Tosq only to let out a earthy chuckle. The willow looked at the two and a bit of sap ran out from the corners of the trees eyes. "It has been ages sense someone has come to see me. My friends all but dead and those who live have forgotten me. Please take a seat and rest your weary legs if you will for there is much to see in this pleasant little area I call home. Please tell me what brings you out this far?"

Koga smiled and did as the tree bade him. "I and my son are travelling to further knowledge, both ours and that of others." he said, looking up at the great wooden face. His son however did not sit, even as his spirit guardian returned to her more natural wisp like state, he remained standing.

"Knowledge can be a fickle thing to pursue." The willow offered a response in turn. Its eyes looked upon the two with a strange curiosity that only age provided. "Might I ask you what knowledge it is that the two of you seek? Lore long past down from generation to generation or how to harness the power of the elements itself?"

"Greater knowledge of the spirits of the world, old one." Koga replied. "Indeed." added Alzeros as his larger, transparent form made itself visible though the ancient tree may already have sensed the spirit's presence. Alzeros himself was an old being, though this great tree made him seem young by comparison.

The willow pondered what these beings both searched for and then glanced at the spirit that made itself known. This was not an odd request but one that was almost unheard of in this time and age. "To seek such knowledge I would imagine that the two of you, not counting the companions you have brought, have great skill and are already very knowledgeable on what is already known." The ancient tree began to ponder on what he could offer these two in order to help them, but few things tend to last long on this world. "I imagine that I must ask the both of you a particular question then. One that has few answers and has little sense to the connection of this world."

The willows leaves and branches would begin to sway a little as a breeze began to pick up in the glen. It was with that the Loa Racine gave a mock yawn. "The first spirits this world birthed was those that called the fiery core of this world their home and those who claimed the dirt we stand upon, and even that stone you sit on, to be their domain. From that point spirits of water and air came about and through them I was blessed to live for as long as I stand in this one spot."

"And I'm sure a great many things have occurred before your eyes." Koga said, thinking about how many years this great being had sat in silent vigil and contemplation. "It would seem the ancient spirits of our home are different than the ones here." she said. "The great fires certainly birthed the first but our ancients tell of the home waters being next, with land and sky being the last." he said.

Loa Racine looked upon the spirit and fond himself realizing that all things were truly different on other worlds, it must have been glorious to see such things, and with a deep breath the willow began to ponder a bit more. "Not all realms start out the same. I am certain of that being true." Loa Racine admitted just to then look at the young warrior who continued to stand wondering if it would take a seat or not. "I was told once that the fires are what gave birth to me. Though I am a tree I know that this cannot be true for all my brothers and sisters who are firmly planted down upon the earth and stone beneath them. The fire that I was born with grants me what you see before you. It is this same fire however that grants other beings on this world and further out even more fantastic abilities. This entire area is my domain but I cannot affect anything outside of it unless I have help of others who are willing to listen and stay."

The willow began to remember an older time just to then chuckle. "I recall people used to bring me offerings in search of protection and guidance, what a strange time that was, but no longer am I called upon like I used to. So here I sat pondering and learning things from those who have passed by and even then it was not enough. I have some control over the spirits of this realm but I would imagine that those like your companions here are more free willed and strong enough not to need me for shelter and safety."

"That is not entirely true." Koga pointed out, "Alzeros here was once much like Miras, small, fearful of the world around him. Through many years working together with myself he's grown strong. It is what I do, what my son will do as well as others like us." he continued, adjusting his seating on the rock and setting his bag to the side. "I am a spirit guide, I help to guide spirits like Miras to those who can nurture them and help them grow stronger, much like I'm guessing you do with the spirits of this glen."

"I do what I can but for to long my powers have waned to the point that the fire within me cannot be split any further. My gifts to those who have come to visit me are all but forgotten and like that so will I." The willow spoke in a rather hushed tone as another breeze passed through the glen causing the limbs of the tree to sway a bit and forcing some of the leaves to fall from their branches. "The path you two have taken up is a noble one but be weary of how you tread down it. For like all that commune with nature there are those who will and have warped it to their own needs." The willow looked up at its branches and frowned a bit as soon it would fall dormant once again as the seasons changed and the cold bitter months came.

"Might I offer something to help you two understand your path a bit more. Do with my gift as you will but realize that it is something that should not be squandered and horded for ones self. This is a gift worth sharing with those who are able to understand what lays within the lands as well as above them." The Tree opened its mouth wide to reveal a flame of pure silver and gold that flickered in the slight breeze just to then split in two allowing the former to glide out from the willows mouth and before his two guests. "I offer you a part of my flame. Learn from it and one day it will guide you the knowledge that you seek. This is the only way I can possibly conceive in helping the both of you on your journey."

Koga's eyes widened and he sat back a little. "Ancient one, I can't take this." he said softly, cradling the flame in both hands as if it were something fragile. "You've said yourself that your flame has been spread thin. If you keep spreading it as you are there will be none left to sustain you." he said, moving to his feet in an attempt to give it back to the tree.

"Father, why not take it, if it will help us do what we came to do?" Kolgano said. "Because we are already gifted Kolgano, if we take this it may be denying that same gift to others who might need it more." the father replied.

The willow looked at both of the Tosq only to let a sigh escape from his bark encrusted lips. "Both of you speak truths that have very hefty points. However know that this gift may be granted to another and that though all lives are born they must eventually come to an end and rejoin the cycle that has been played out before us." The large willow spoke only to then look at Koga and smiled. "If you feel it necessary to deny a former sapling the honor of aiding you then fear not. My fire still yet burns bright and it is only a necessary end that will allow me retire." The old willow looked now at Kolgano and offered the same smile. "Your son here will make a fine warrior that is for certain. Kolgano was it? Would you do me a service, one that has not been done sense the time of my celebrated name, could you take that fire when you are done with it and make use of it in order to keep order among nature and its bounty. Keep it safe from those who would wish to misuse my gifts."

Lao Racine swallowed the rest of his flame keeping it safe within him once more just to then chuckle a bit more as this was what he needed. "I ask the both of you to partake in this gift and use it as you see fit for I feel that no harm will come of it. My days on this world are almost up and so if I feel like helping others in such a way is profitable for both parties then so be it."

"I...I see your point." Koga said, doing his best to separate the flame in two, pulling out two glass flasks to put the flame inside of. Kolgano cracked a small smile as he tied the flask to his belt. He'd keep it safe, just as he'd defended his father. Though in truth his father didn't need his son's protection but Kolgano had never seen him fight.

"We will do what we can ancient one." said Kolgano, addressing the tree directly for the first time. "Someday we will return for a visit." Koga added, assuming the great tree still remained aflame inside.

"And may your roots run deep." Koga said, having heard it as a phrase used by some tree dwelling folk he'd once encountered. With that he and his son took their leave of the great tree, though not before Koga took a small canteen from his bag and poured it's contents before the tree, not enough to repay the gift given but a thanks of sorts.

Once again the sound of the babbling brook under root would flow with the sounds of life and serenity that the Glen had always provided. It was the shade of a moonless sky sinking far bellow the hills past the Glen that the rays of the sun broke into the dark places of the forest and provided a much needed rest for those creatures less fortunate. An old stone carved into a offering table sat silently next to a rather large tree who seemed to have the carved features of a sleeping man.

What serenity this place brings.

Through the forest she'd gone, in what most would believe was a casual stroll. Most people would be very wrong to think this, as people in hooded robes never took strolls without a decent reason.

This stranger, who strolled by in all white, who's hem dragged across the soil, but never dirtied, made a beeline for the offering table. Beside her, clumsily hurrying to keep pace, was a clothed, large, and yellow toad with a small fez cap on his head. He glanced up at the woman nervously as a wind rushed by, knocking her hood down along her slender shoulders to reveal a woman as pale as the robe she wore, with hair like shadows falling over her chest to touch her prominent hip bones.

"Toad," said the woman, her voice smooth and brooding. "This better not be a joke."

The scenery would not change and the strange tree that was both large and old swayed with the presence of the wind. Its branches moved gently and the leaves upon it would give off their song allowing the world to know that nature lived on in many things. The babbling brook continued to speak in tongues that only the druids could decipher and the face upon the tree remained motionless and sleeping as if time did not slide an idle blade along its bark.

For now all that remained in the Hidden Glen was the tree of old and the woman and her toad. None would know of the events that would unfold and not even the bards could sing or praise their knowledge of them.

The woman stretched her sable lips thinly and narrowed her eyes at the bipedal toad who stood shivering next to her. "Toad."

"Yes, lady, yes! It isn't a joke!"

The woman's eyes pointed forward at the offering table once again. "Does he wait for something?"

"I do not know."

"Toad."

"I do not know!"

They both took their eyes to the table, now. From within her cloak, the woman pulled out a small finger bone, laying it onto the table. Feeling it would not be enough, she lay a pale hand atop it, and let forth a pulse of magic, which stirred the grass and leaves around in a mystical wind.

"Do you live?" she asked the face in the tree.

What one could consider to be a dramatic change of pace others might find it to be a rather dull bit of old magik coming to life once again. The old tree yawned something awful as its mouth opened wide a flicker of fire could be seen deep within the things mouth. The Ancient tree looked around and then found that to its side next to the old offering stone stood a young woman and a amphibian.

"Do not all things live with the essence of life, of Fire, or is this a trick question for an old tree who has lived beyond the others of our time?"

Loa Racine looked quizically of the two and then at the offering table a bit more only to frown slightly. "I can feel the old village that used to sit here beneath my roots. Yet the stone remains? The people of my time would bring me their offerings in bushels of wheat and grains along with some spiced spirits or a good bottle of rum. What brings a Old Soul such as yourself to this place with little to offer besides a bone?"

The smallest smile came to the woman's lips as she got the response. Toad let out a sigh, hands clasped at his chest.

"Forgive me. I could have phrased better. Perhaps... 'Do you speak?'" asked the woman. "Even so, I do catch whispers in the wind at times. The lack of appropriate offerings was for naught but doubtfulness. Frogs come by here, and occasionally they will be one of my own. One reported seeing you, here."

The cloak shuffled, fell back from her shoulders, and from it revealed a plethora of arms, all as pale and glowing as the moon, of different shape and character, attached to the woman's body.

"I am a practitioner of magic, and an observer of this world, and many over. I live to gather knowledge, and to set events in motion where others are not putting their attention. You may call me Saranna."
