A silvis mercenary working under the title of the Argent Blade,

0 · 152 views · located in Main Street (Continued)

a character in “The Multiverse”, originally authored by Script, as played by Disdain

Description

Image

Name: Lyris
Alias: The Argent Blade
Age: 23
Significant Relations: -
Abilities:

Silverite Energy: A moderately powerful silvis, Lyris has access to the manipulation of silverite energy. This can manifest itself in the form of pure energy, or physically. In physical form the energy can be made as malleable or solid as desired. In energy form, it can be manifested as heat, force, or more refined forms such as fire or lightning. When embracing the energy, she also gains physical strength and enhanced senses/reflexes.

Equipment:

  • Dual long-knives
  • Throwing knives (8)
  • Three short, concealed daggers (boot, hip, side)
  • Shortbow and arrows
  • Leather armour

Short Bio: Lyris first traveled to Terra three years ago, as she perceives it, dissatisfied with the serenity and monotony of life in the Silver Dimension as she perceived it - too safe, too neat. She longed for adventure and danger, a chance to put the combat skills she had honed in training for the Argent Vanguard to the test. There was no war for her to fight in in Lustre, nothing beyond hunting wurms for an 'adventure' to be had - and so she traveled to the gates to Terra and stepped into the realm where her grandfather had made his name before her.

So begins...

"Looks like I walked in on a party, huh?"

The door of the bar swung closed as a woman clad in studded armour and all the trappings of a fighter by profession paused in her entrance. Long, blue-tinted silvery hair hung down from her head, framing a smirking fine-featured face. She looked young, barely out of her teens (if that), but she held herself with a confidence that belied her apparent age.

"What's the problem? Family feud, working territory - dare I say it, business?" Lyris raised an eyebrow, "Don't look much like a fair fight to me. Two, three on one? Something I'm not seeing in the loner here that makes him so scary you've all gotta gang up on him like schoolyard bullies with inferiority complexes?"

"Isn't that a line from a movie? I wanna play a little game... yeah, definitely sounds familiar." Lyris raised an eyebrow before shrugging. Sauntering casually further into the bar, she eyed Alucard's oversized guns, but turned when Lysaria entered.

"Most times in life there's not a good guy to be found, least, not so clear cut as you always know who you oughta shoot at." The sylvis grinned, "I'd say life was all shades of grey, but that phrase's been ruined, and now it'd imply life was one big porno."

Yet to draw a weapon, Lyris leaned onto one of the bar's tables, "I don't suppose anyone wants to pay me to join their team, do they? Preferably solo guy, I'd feel bad joining the ganging up gang of compensating-for-things-with-massive-guns."

"Not to rain on an offer for free drinks, but won't recruiting a fighter to help you stop the fight just make it into a three way?" Lyris noted, smirking.

"That guy's gonna die, isn't he?" Lyris asked Cryoface as she glanced between Chek and the angry looking supernatural creatures with massive guns, "Tell me he's gonna die. You can't just do that and not die. It's practically against the rules of, I dunno, life and guns and everything."

She flinched minutely when the first salvo of gunfire went off, "So much for your stopping the fight plan, eh?"

"Bullshit," Lyris muttered as the soldiers burst into the room, "Nobody brings an army to a showdown, that's just poor sportsmanship."

As the assault rifles were raised, Lyris reacted without hesitation, sweeping an arm up in a graceful motion to form a shimmering shield of silver energy. The bullets battered against the shield harmlessly, and the silvis rolled her eyes. "Is this a bar, or a fucking military warzone? Tactical strike against alcohol abuse? Seriously, what is the point to this?"

"I'm out. Done. Kapeesh. Somebody's decided they're gonna take the war on substance abuse to a whole new level, who am I to stop them?" Lyris shook her head and started to make her way to the side exit. She glanced at Lysaria as she turned, "You might wanna find new cover, or leave with me." she noted.

The jostling crowd wasn't easy to navigate, but it was made substantially easier if you were carrying a significant number of sharp objects visibly on your person. Lyris shoved her way through the spectators of the pit-fighting with a grimace, trying to ignore the brutality of the display. For a slight young woman, she displayed surprising strength in budging the more stubborn or large of the onlookers.

She supposed this was the sort of thing she'd have to get used to if she was going to make any money in this city. Hired muscle seldom made much money in the clean, morally upstanding and law-abiding areas of a town.

Her pathway through the crowd was cut short, however, when she encountered an unexpected horse flank. "Seriously? Someone brought a horse here?" she muttered largely to herself, turning to try and find the owner of the animal and a route around, only to discover that nobody had, in fact, brought a horse here.

"Oh, sorry." she said to the back of the centaur's head, "Probably a good thing you can't hear me over this crowd, right? Or you might have been offended."

She grinned, largely to herself. "Faux pas's...s...s - god, that's a mouthful - gotta hate 'em."

"Violah. Terakus shithead! Dinos money!" One of the betters screeched at the centuar, bringing up all four hands to give the scarred horseman a view of four long middle fingers. The craighounds had been great money winners, they'd brought in the cash when nothing else was winning in the pit, especially up against anything the Shintenchi crowd brought in.

Alibi walked himself up to the crowd, pushing and sliding his way though the onlookers. The horse was a peculiar sight, maybe he could steal it and make some money off Sashimi and his stall, horse was a rare sight in the Downs, and his kin would eat just about anything.

When he found his way though the crowd, stopping just behind Lyris he also saw that it wasn't a horse. That plan went out the window. Scythians wouldn't eat sentients, that was a standards thing. There was another way to make money though...

Alibi leaned forward and tapped Lyris on the shoulder. "How much for me to keep my mouth shut, Terakus? Other Terakus might angry if he know."

Unfortunately it would seem the centaur had already heard well enough. He threw a one eyed glower over his shoulder at the pair of them with a loud snort not too dissimilar to that of a bull.

"Best watch yourself, girl," he growled at her.

He turned his attentions back down to the pits where the reptile had the craighound had its jaws locked around the reptiles throat, but the reptile was using its own weight to pin the hound to the ground where it was at the mercy of those scythe like arms. A few minutes more and the fight was over.

Several scythians were moving in to drive the reptile back into its crate with poled weapons capable of delivering a debilitating electrical shock.

The centaur gave a shout to the scythian who had yelled at him earlier. "Hey skid, better luck next time, eh?" he barked back at the scythian with a laugh.

Those craighounds had been proven champions and saying they were valuable was putting it lightly. More than a few of the regulars had bet highly on them.

"How much?" Lyris turned to give the significantly-larger-than-her creature a glare, "Are you asking how many teeth... or... tentacles... or...." she trailed off. "Damn it, that was going to be badass, but then you had to go and not have easily identifiable teeth. I was going to say 'are you asking how many teeth I need to knock out for you to keep your mouth shut? Because I think you're going to have to be the one to tell me'. But then you didn't have teeth, so you ruined it."

At that point, though, she realised that the centaur had already turned around. She glanced his way and offered a goofy grin that could have possibly been interpreted as something approaching apologetic. Maybe.

The blue-haired silvis gave a sigh of exasperation, looking back at Alibi. "Way to go, asshole. Wasn't even a good extortion attempt, he didn't care. Also, not racist. Like, I wouldn't care if you had tentacle thingies under normal circumstances, except when my line requires you to have teeth to make sense. So it's not racist."

There was a pause.

"I have friends with tentacle thingies."

The betting scythian eyed the centaur, raising two fingers to its eyes and making a throat slitting gesture. "You fool. I win next fight, kill lizard." The better made a disgusted noise, throwing a stack into a bowl sitting on a stack of cargo crates next to the makeshift pit and pushing his way out of the crowd.

"Terakus for sure, you act like it." Alibi chortled out a rattling laugh, as a few dozen set of eyes in the crowd turned to the face the blue-haired silvis. "You watch word here, other get baruk. You want keep shoes, you be careful in the Downs. Terakus for sure, for sure."

One of the runners of the pit saddled up to the centaur, backed by two threatening looking thugs. "That good show, make a lot of cleanup time. House rule change, bring creature overweight, kill two best dog. Is... Zuk for business." The runner swiped up the winnings and held it out, but would bring it back towards his chest if the centaur made a grab for it.

Alibi eyed Lyris. "Why here?"

It wasn't too long (by some definitions of too long, if you accounted for 'stopping for a snack on the way and getting distracted by a TV in a store window' time in your definition of reasonable travel time) before the hired help arrived. Equipped with a veritable weapons-stand of bladed implements, Lyris' blue hair swayed gently as she made her way to the door of Avia's apartment and knocked.

Avia quickly made her way to the door, looking back at Adam, suspiciously, once before turning her back on him and looking through the peep-hole in the door.

"Ah. Good, good-" The door swung open. "Welcome! Thanks for coming. Really. You have no idea how difficult it is to find someone to babysit a diabolical evil genius with a robot arm at a reasonable price these days. Come in! Sit down. I'll brief you." She gestured to Adam. Who wasn't tied up. Who had his robot arm attached. Who was free roaming as the two of them. "This is Adam, this is who you'll be guarding. The hours are going to be long. He'll be working on something. I need you to, ah, watch him and make sure he doesn't try anything."

Adam let the mock-flattery go by unnoticed. Diabolical evil genius... Really, it was just silly. Everything he did was for science, and he hardly felt science was diabolical. More... Apathetic. "It's a pleasure to meet you," Adam said, offering out his good hand to shake, but his attention wasn't there.

Evil genius however... That was a title he could get behind. It held power, respect, and several other things he could really appreciate. He was so distracted that he didn't even pay attention to the conversation, instead fantasizing over what costume he would wear as he suppressed the masses with superior science and technology to enforce new world order.

It would definitely be red, for a start.

Lyris greeted Avia with a flourishing bow, her hair falling floppily forwards and then being flicked back up in the process. "Why, yes, I am Lyris! No, I'm not just the first random stranger that turned up at the door. Oh, I am? Well, damn." The silvis folded her arms, "If I'm playing security duty then I've got to point out that opening the door before checking who I was? Prooobably not a good idea."

The silvis waved her hand and grinned, "I mean, if you normally let heavily armed strangers into your flat without at least checking to see that they're the right heavily armed stranger, then that's your deal. But I wouldn't recommend it."

As she followed Avia inside, she gave Adam a look up and down. Robot arm, as Avia had said. She'd thought he would be taller though. She took his hand and shook it with a nod, "Sup."

Looking back to Avia as she went on with the brief, she nodded along up until the end. "Right. Right. Gotcha - one quick question though," she glanced across at the other woman, lowering her voice to murmur in her ear so that Adam wouldn't hear. "Is it gonna be obvious to someone not familiar with... evil genius robot stuff... if he's trying anything? Like... will there be a change in background music, or what?"

"Oh. No, that's fine. Really, that's fine. I wouldn't open the door if I thought I couldn't take care of whoever was on the other side to some extent." She flicked a hand dismissively. "Anyway, so, details..." She paused to listen to Lyris' question, biting her lip.

"Well, how's this? He started laughing about an invention this morning and threw a grenade out of my window. I'd think that's obvious enough. But..." She let her gaze skip to Adam for a moment, and it looked as though the woman aged several years in a second. "He's gone behind my back before. Used to think he was a pretty decent fellow. He might still be capable of the same thing. If he starts to make anything resembling a weapon, disable him. Immediately."

The word 'grenade' snapped Cydrok's attention back to reality. "That was a scientifi-" he cut himself off when he realized nobody cared, and sulked slightly, until Avia stopped speaking. "I'm going to need sharp implements and in a worst case scenario I will be using micro-welders and cutters," he helpfully informed the pair.

His arm folded in front of his chest leaving his robot arm dangling. "Of course, I won't have my prosthetic attached when working." Which in itself seemed a little odd. Why have a robot arm if he wasn't going to give it a hand or something that he could use instead of, well, a gun.

"Gotcha. 'course, now I expect he's gonna make a machine gun shaped like a tricycle, but I'll be sure to watch for anything resembling 'oh boy, I just got me a gun'-esque behaviour, too." Lyris replied, nodding her head solemnly.

"So by disable, how long-term we talking? Like, tie him up in a corner till you get back, or just clock him around the head and confiscate his toys, then hope he's learned his lesson by the time he wakes up?"

Lyris tilted her head thoughtfully before adding, "Which, incidentally, parallels my preferred methods for looking after children."

"I'd rather have him alive, but if you find yourself in a position where you don't have a lot of choice, by all means, do away with him in whatever manner. Murderous children don't get too many chances, y'know?" relayed Avia. She seemed to have no problem, none, whatsoever, saying this in front of Adam.

And when she heard he wouldn't be using his prosthetic, she frowned, because that was immediately suspicious. "What do you mean you won't be using it? You can't do everything one-handed, can you?" she asked the man. She let her eyes bore into Lyris', sending a silent signal that this was instantly something strange. "Well, alright, Adam, if you want it that way."

Adam gave Avia a funny look. "You actually think it takes three days to put up four air-tight walls with a light-source then make a room sterile with two hands?" he answered her pretty flatly. What did she think he was, an amateur? With two hands that would take a days effort tops! Then again, Adam usually worked ten plus hours at a time because he had no life.

"Unless my babysitter wants to pitch in with the chores," he added in a smug sounding voice that indicated he felt oh so clever at getting in on the child metaphor.

"Nah, I'm good." Lyris replied, shrugging her shoulders, "I mean, unless I'd get paid extra - though I should warn you anything involving me and putting stuff together is likely to result in the stuff falling apart again far sooner than it should."

She shrugged with a grin, "I'm better at breaking shit than making it."

Glancing back to Avia she nodded, "Duly noted. If he starts trying to detonate a nuke, I'll disable the fuck out of him. With these." she waved a couple of her knives that almost certainly hadn't been in her hands a second ago.

Avia gave Adam a deadpan. "That's wonderful, Adam. Won-der-ful." And changed her attention to Lyris. "If you do find yourself helping, let me know and we'll talk about funds after. Oh, and-" Her eyelids widened a tad once the blue-haired merc waved around the knives. "I do like your style. Knives used to be my thing, too."

She began to motion towards the door. "Well, I have things to attend to, and I don't mean to kick you out, but it's urgent. The whole reason I need you to look after Doctor One-ey over there."
