Lzoling's Story

The Lzoling was a strange entity, body consisting of nothing but black ooze and only a lone yellow eye atop a vaguely humanoid form. It was the spawn of the great being known only as Lzothozsh, the sleeping creator of the Corruption.

And it hated its father. Lzothozsh was a stain upon the universe that could result in its end just in his waking, and the Lzoling didn't like that sort of thing. Mostly because it had recently become a piece of the universe, and was rather attached to not being eaten. Unfortunately it was all but powerless, with only minor psychic abilities.

And so it wandered, incapable of recognisable speech and all but aimless.

The spawn would hear the laughter and was lacking any understanding of the concept. However it understood pursuit. A child of some unknown race was seeking a flighted creature. This would be no challenge. A hand raised up, gesturing for the butterfly, only for a psychic field to hold it still. The Lzoling turned now, lone large yellow eye rimmed with teeth staring in that direction unblinking.

The reaction was strange, unexpected really. The butterfly was released once more to go fly away. The ooze now pursued the hiding kitsune with utter confusion on its... eye. Well, it was hard to pick the emotions of the spawn. It came to the base of the tree and looked up, followed by a high pitched alien voice uttering something incomprehensible.

One word stood out. 'Lzothozsh'. At this point it slapped both hands heavily on the trunk of the tree, trying to shake her loose. Well, it couldn't speak to her, but it could find other ways to communicate. Either with friendly psychic powers or... Unfriendly psychic powers.

Unfortunately for the Lzoling, climbing was hard.

The spawn decided to try to climb, which was was an effort in futility as the oozey hands could barely grip. For a split second it rose up, then dropped back down with a thud onto its heels with a splat. Frustration got the better of it as its hand drew back, then smashed on the trunk again.

Lzoling's one weakness. It could not climb trees.

Aha! A moment of weakness! Had she not seen how he handled the butterfly? Unfortunately she was too large to grab. Still, it would make do with what it could. A hand raised and a small psychic grasp reached for her angle as she leapt, trying to stop her momentum and send her falling down.

Or she could get a branch and it could get even more frustrated.

The thumping, slapping footsteps of the Lzoling were an effort in futility. They were far outclassed in running, and the distance between the two of them was growing too long to use that psychic trick again. Still, a lack of need to breath or stop was in the Lzoling's favour, so they would simply run in the direction Diana ran for some hours, until they decided to give up.

Heck, even a slight turn in direction when out of view would lose the creature.

Fire? The creature hissed, air escaping around the edges of its eye. Forward it stalked, raising a hand to throw up weak psychic wall to knock away the fire as it could. This was getting difficult. They had barely reconstituted themselves after the last incident with that woman!

He marched forward towards her, teeth flaring upwards and hands balled into, well, black balls of ooze.

He marched forward for her, hand reaching out one hand for her arm. And contact would be unusual. Instead of the horrible disgusting touching of oozing goop clutching her arm there would suddenly be... Stormshock. A familiar face, certainly.

A psychic projection, of course. And it was his simple form of communication. One of her memories.

His hand held firm as a gruff voice grunted, "Will you stop shouting, sister?" His mannerisms would be right, but that was mostly because he was just taking them from her memories. If anyone happened to see him... Well, to them he'd look like sludge.

There was an annoyed grunt, but gnawing at the arm would be, uh, uncomfortable. Her teeth would sink into the black ooze of the arm. "The Corruption is dead. It's master lies sleeping and I want him dead," he grunted once more.

She was not being cooperative, so he wasn't going to be nice. His hand now reaching for her skull. If her mental defences were not ready he would delve into her mind to see what memories would surface on the word 'Lzothozsh'.

The spawns head turned to the side. A challenger? What next. His eye glared at them as he drew both hands away from the cowering Diana and let them fall to his side. This was going to be inconvenient. He didn't seem to have semblance of stance or fighting manner, just standing slightly hunched forward, eye peering at the new challenger.

As the explosions rocked all around the spawn raised an arm to shield its eye. The arm dropped when the explosion ended. Was that a gun? It didn't look like one. He took one cautious step backwards, lone pupil darting left and right to see what cover might be nearby for the run he was about to make.

The moment she started talking it turned to run, darting and weaving back and forth between the trees. Stupid everything forever. He was going to get revenge of these creatures, eventually.

Steve's casual nature was fast disappearing as he suddenly increased his pace at the sound of hinges breaking, power-walking his way up the road with a sudden burst of energy. Anything to put distance between him and what dark things lurked beyond. Anything but the spawn of one of the big ones.

Back at the house things were rapidly deteriorating, with the upper half of the door swinging open and a black, oozing arm reaching out and slapping against the front with a loud, sick splat. The body of the creature was now forcing its way out of the triangular gap created by the loose-hanging door, writhing and curling its body like it didn't comprehend the opening to climb out of it. If the thing had a spine it was hard to tell, as it folded literally over the door to place both hands on the ground, then the other end of it came up and over after it, black spatters flung about from flailing legs.

It rose.

It's 'head' was clear as day.

Nothing but a great off-yellow translucent orb with a black dot in the center, lined with fangs all around the edge and trapped in a sleeve of black. It's head pointed upwards to the air and from it was unleashed a psychic scream of anger that pierced to the minds of mortals like a shrill sound of pure rage.

Whatever ungodly abomination that it was crawling --no-- oozing its way out of the door, Bruce didn't recognize it. He was able to name nearly every life form from here to Earth Prime, but this creature was new territory. First of all, he didn't know if he would be able to stop this thing with a hollowed-out pen filled with anesthetic gas, or a tazer, or a pair of brass knuckles. He did, although, carry with him a few cryo capsules, courtesy of Victor Fries himself.

Producing one of the capsules from his coat, he lobbed the device at the black mass, a cryonic acid spreading over the target, attempting to freeze it in its tracks. He didn't smile. There was no room for overconfidence, not when he was unsure of ho this thing would react to the assault.

He just hoped it would be enough. If not, he would have to come up with something else.

He might try fire next.

Bruce had stumbled across one of the weaknesses of the creature, if such a thing could be called a weakness. Perhaps vulnerability was a better word, for as no sooner had it launched towards the creature it met an invisible barrier, letting the liquid splash over it and freeze to the air. Psychic powers was the game, and this thing had plenty to spare. However, being a creature mostly new to the world this wonder of crystallized material had it distracted, pupil locked onto the many reflections and refractions caused by the freezing.

With a sense of wonder, one finger rose up to touch at the acid still stuck in the air, only to recoil in pain, horror and anger. Their entire body blistered and boiled for a moment, ooze surfacing to a pimpled consistency, all at once popping.

Steve had about-faced somewhere along the line, and was now hastily walking up to the side of Bruce with one hand reaching to roughly grab for his arm. Of course, he was hardly fit to detain a man like Bruce. He was trying to urge him away, but this could easily be misinterpreted as aggression, especially with the emotionless stare now painted onto his features.

The creature seemed to produce a barrier that was able to hold the cryonic acid still in the air. However, the way the ice crystals danced in the light seemed to capture the monster's attention. Captivated by the sparkling sight, it reached out to touch the frozen surface of its seemingly psychic barrier; and all at once the creature appeared to wish it hadn't, if it were capable of calling it such. It roared, painfully, as its skin contacted with the frozen substance, its "flesh" reacting with the mixture in the wrong way, spawning a series of painful blisters that erupted on the creature's being. "That can't feel good," Bruce remarked.

Suddenly, he felt a tug at his arm: the blue-haired man. How had he gotten there? Usually, no one was able to sneak up on Bruce as this man had. But this wasn't a usual time. At first, Bruce was unsure of the man's intent, thinking the blue-haired man meant to hold him there; something Bruce would not have been willing to comply to. However, it seemed the man was trying to lead him away, attempting to pull the disguised billionaire down the sidewalk with him.

He had no complaints. He was ill-prepared for a threat such as this, and calling in a drop for his suit and gear would be more trouble than it'd be worth. He placed his hand gently on the blue-haired man's back, urging him to head down the block. Hopefully, there would be some way for the situation to find resolution. If not, well, he might have to return and do something when he was better equipped.

All he had to do was circle around, that was easy enough. Whatever was happening would stray away from him and his apartment, then he could hole himself up inside. He had his own problems, and monsters, or demons, or raccoons, or whatever was coming out of that building was not his problem.

Lazarus slid around a corner, nearly slamming into a blue-haired man and the familiar man in the green suit. "Whoa! Wait! Are you running from it?" Lazarus asked, not sure what 'it' was exactly.

"Oye, carnales, I'm going with you." The Mexican-American man told the men. Escaping with a group would give him better odds, if one went down or got grabbed it would slow down whatever, or whoever, they were running from.

That's all Laz needed, a chance to get into the city.

Steve was less than helpful. His eyes acknowledged Lazarus, but he did not answer the mans question, instead choosing to address both men with, "Be glad the Father does not care for its children," along with an unhappy grimace like one of them had just stepped on a sandcastle he had built. And with that peculiar statement, he gave a sharp tug on Bruce's arm and started hastily walking away again. "Don't run, the ripples will only anger it further."

His pace was a fast walk, but not even breaking into a jog, with small swift movements that flowed in a circular pattern instead of sharp jerks of his arms and legs, more like he was attempting to ride a bicycle on the ground.

The Lzoling's 'eyelid', if the rows of teeth and black ooze that made up its head could be called such, narrowed until the teeth formed a tight, perfectly circular ring with all of the fangs intersection. And then, the ice shattered in the air, tumbling to the ground into small shards. Finally its gaze swept around, seeking the one who was responsible.

The blue-haired man continued to lead Bruce down the sidewalk. He told them not to run, and kept up a brisk walking pace. Bruce didn't look back at the thing: he could hear it's angry roars just fine.

They bumped into the man from earlier. He was of Mexican-American descent, judging by his appearance and accent. Either way, he too was trying to escape the madness that was erupting just behind them. Bruce beckoned the man to follow them. "Let's go," he said calmly, not wanting to upset the otherworldly monstrosity.

Luckily, he had some more tools to use in case things got especially hairy. If necessary, he could toss a few smoke pellets to use in an escape attempt; and if worse came to worse, he could try and set the damn thing on fire. Either way, he had to focus on getting these two to safety before he called for any reinforcements. If the police couldn't handle this thing, he'd have to bring in some better help.

"What?" Lazarus asked the blue-haired man. "We gotta walk? Yo, that does not sound like a good idea." He told the two men. The blue-haired man seemed to have experience dealing with whatever it was that was terrorizing the slums, but Laz still couldn't get with the idea of power walking away from the thing like a suburban mom.

"Fuck it." Laz said, joining the two other men in their speedy walking down the streets of the slums. He preferred to protest more, but relented in favor of just surviving the ordeal and getting somewhere safe.

Good. Everything was going perfect. As they made their painstakingly average-paced escape, a little cunning entered Steve's mind. "Now the next step is to separate our energies," he added with a furtive glance left and right, "To confuse it. Go in different directions." This time he was just making shit up. But honestly, who could tell with what had already played out. He turned on a dime, suddenly moving for a fire escape nearby up a old abandoned apartment.

The Lzoling had finally started its pursuit, but slowly with fangs returning to line the eyeball. It's pupil now swept widely back and forth within the eye, like it was trying to detect things as it moved at a snails pace in the direction they had last been. And then when Steve sharply turned its head locked in their direction.

Bruce wasn't going to argue with the blue-haired man, even if he gave off an air of severe strangeness. He broke off from the other two, crossing the street and heading down an alleyway. He could handle himself on his own; he wasn't sure about the other two, but there was no time to suggest any other ideas. That monster was clearly out for blood, and the blue-haired man's plan was as good as any at this point.

He silently wished J'onn were around to call upon; he'd probably stand a better chance against a creature such as this, one that employs psychic powers. However, all he could do for now was escape the beasts' attention and hope the situation would be resolved before he got involved even further. It was uncharacteristic for Batman to operate during the day, and Bruce had a rule about not doing such a thing. However, if he had to don the Batsuit in order to try and combat that thing, he'd break that policy.

He kept his brisk pace as he descended further and further into the alleyway, not even looking back at the other two men as they too fled the scene.
