M. Dietrich

A beautiful woman who reflects no color, she looks like she stepped off a movie reel from the fifties, and she may very well have.

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Tawanos

Description

Image
M reflects no color, though she can perceive it just fine. Her clothes are always grey scale as well as is anything she can lift and carry, though once it leaves her person the colors return to whatever it may be. She moves like a normal person, but when she gets agitated or angry there is an odd effect around her, as if frames on a movie reel are skipping, and burn blotches appear. Though once she is calm again they disappear just as quickly.

She has a sculpted face, sharp cheek bones and dark lips that seldom smile, but when they do her entire face seems to glow. Her eyes, though often half lidded are never sleepy, and are always enticing and shaded. Her curly hair looks like platinum, reflecting the light that it catches with a faint glimmer.

Her proportions are ideal, and she has a tendency to wear clothes that accentuate but do not flaunt this fact. White dresses that hug her figure, drawing eyes along her bosom and down to her slender waist and lovely hips. Few men could take their eyes off her legs when she walked and her dresses were always cut to give a glimpse without giving too much away. Though when she spoke, thoughts of her body became secondary to her purr.

Her voice has an unmistakable German accent, a natural purr in her voice draws listeners closer. When she sings she takes their breath away. It is when she sings that she seems to come to life the most and she always smile. Even when she sings her most sad songs, she bares a melancholy smile that has broken hearts and made the strong cry.

Personality

M is a down to earth woman who seeks to make new experiences for herself. After so many years, decades, of doing the same thing over and over, she can't wait to try new things. But she knows that the one thing she does best is and always will be sing.

She has a gentle pace to her that makes her a bit slow in a fast moving world. But she reacts well, bouncing back quickly. She seldom gets upset or angry, but when she does it is a sight to behold.

She has seen to much in some respects that her curiosity about new things has been shunted, but she is growing to discover that her curiosity isn't as dead as she thought though atrophied, it is showing signs of life and recovery.

History

A mysterious woman in black and white. Perhaps she is someone a few recognize, but no, it couldn't be... could it?

She does not share her history, and asks those who may have an idea not to share. It is her secret after all.

So begins...

M. Dietrich smiled as she approached the door to Tauvyr. A gentleman who had stepped out for a smoke watched her and immediately dropped his cigarette to stub it out and pull the door open for her. He wanted to look good for this beauty in black and white. She stepped inside, the rhinestones on her dress catching the light and glinting white, no color reflected off the woman's dress, or even her skin or hair, she was entirely gray scale, as though she stepped off a movie reel from the forties or fifties. She looked around with dark bedroom eyes that hinted at trouble when she was younger. She made her way over to a table, her dress hinting at her long legs but showing almost nothing directly, and sat down with a swish of satin. She picked up a wine menu, which lost all color until it matched its holder, and perused the available selection.

M. Dietrich set her drink list down and closed her eyes. She took a long moment to just smell the air. To breath something new. The flavors of life were here, people did new and interesting things, there wasn't the humdrum repetition that she had come from. She looked over at the bar and motioned for the tender's attention. She didn't look like it, but she was quite excited to taste her first glass of new wine in... oh dear... how long had it been? She hummed to herself, almost a purr with a tune, melancholy sweet tune that plucked at heart strings, even with just the tune.

Daemala had been reading three blush wines in particular when she had been signalled by the new patron. Brightening, she grabbed two of them and hustled her way over to M. Dietrich.

"Good evening, Madame!" Daemala offered a light curtsy, "Welcome to Tauvyr Tavern. I see you've discovered our wine list," On that note, she placed the two blush wines on the table. One had a shining gold label with a ornate matte red dragon. It's script was not in standard, and it was sealed with golden wax. The second bottle had a flat black label, white font cluttered in the bottom left corner: Very avante garde. It was sealed with ink black wax with a single white foil band.

"May I suggest Drac'nic Dautlat" Daemala waved a hand over the golden bottle, "Or Medium?"

M. Dietrich was startled by the sound from the door. It had opened so smoothly for her before without even a whisper. And then the man appeared, so dark and foreboding. She felt her breath taken away by his entrance, the power coming off him was stifling and she could hardly breath. Tears built at the corners of her eyes which she tried to repress. She gripped the table strongly and her form seemed to flicker briefly before she began to settle herself. She took a small breath, then a larger shuddering breath until she was able to fill her lungs again. She let it out slowly and once it was out she was centered again. A small smile tugged at her lips for the novelty of the experience if nothing else. "Wow..." she whispered softely, her voice soft velvet.

She blinked and turned to look at Daemala with some surprise, as if she had forgotten the woman was there. She cleared her throat gently with hardly a sound then when she spoke her voice was as steady and perfect as it had ever been. "I was actually hoping for a glass of the Orvietto Abboccato, '82." Her German accent light, but easily determinable. "I have a fondness for it, I'm afraid. Though perhaps a glass of the Drac'nic Dautlat to follow."

M. Dietrich could feel a strange sensation in her mind, like fingers probing through cotton. But she couldn't tell, and it seemed to fade quickly enough. Gro'chal would find a mind and soul clad in silver. He may tell that she had memories, emotions, hopes and fears, but no way to detect what they are. If he should probe deeper the silver would harden against him.

Daemala rummaged behind the bar, doing her best to ignore the probing. She fished the darkest bloodiest of wines, as well as the whitest and least bloody wine. Approaching the intimidating trench coated man, she held up the two bottles.

"Would you like to try a new import?"

M. Dietrich felt the pressure again and put a hand against her forehead gently, as if trying to rid herself of a headache. Gro'chal's slithering attempt to get into her mind was rebuffed, gaps hardening against him as soon as he attempted to gain entrance. Finally she hummed to herself a slow melody of relaxation and meditation as one does on a Lazy Afteroon. At once her mind protected itself. Liquid silver seeming to pour over it, encasing it in the most adamant protections against even his insistent intrusions.

Daemala placed the bottles on the table, along with a wine key, eager to escape the probing. With a polite curtsy, she returned to the bar to find their stock of Orvietto Abboccato, '82. When she finally located the swamp hued bottle at the bottom of a wine rack, she had almost worked up a sweat.

Triumphant, Daemala selected a pristine crystal glass from the back counter and sauntered over to M. Dietrich. She placed the glass on the table, swiftly uncorked the bottle, and poured a sampling amount.

Daemala waited for the tasting to leave the bottle behind.

M. Dietrich looked at the wine and a slow smile spread across her face, a beautiful thing to behold, that smile, delight so pure, nothing false or withheld. She gingerly picked up the crystal glass, though once she did the wine within lost all color and turned to gray scale just as she was. She didn't seem not notice or mind however as she brought it to her lips, not yet sipping but taking a deep breath between her lips and nose. "Yes... this is it..." She didn't need more to confirm this was exactly what she wanted, the tasting sip was a delightful formality. She let the wine settle on her tongue and breath with her for a few moments before she swallowed and nodded to Daemala to pour the rest of the glass, but she hesitated before asking the woman to leave the bottle. "If you have some appropriate food I would be ever so grateful. Salmon preferred."

Daemala smiled, watching the glass turn in color but careful not to react. She poured the rest of the glass, uncapping an ice bucket and prepping the bottle inside.

"I suspect you would like this chilled?" She was prepared to remove the bottle and cap the bucket, need be. As for salmon, Daemala smiled again. "Yes, would you enjoy some lox snacks?" She then turned to the newcomer.

"May I help you, Sir?" Quickly, she recognized her fellow brethren, "Ix! It's been so long. How may I help you?"

"Lox would be perfect thank you," a light meal was perfect with the wine, a sweeter white than the usual dryer variety, it wasn't suited for a full meal. She looked around the restaurant briefly and then back at Daemala. She was about to speak but the woman was distracted by the newcomer. It could wait until her meal arrived to broach the subject.

M. Dietrich looked up at the woman who was crying out. She was about to speak about how rude it was to shout like that, but it became obvious to her that the woman was in some sort of pain. She immediately rose with a silken ease and walked over to the woman with a smooth stride and reached out to her. She put a hand on Selmaina's shoulder, unknowing extending her protection over the woman. "What's wrong? Can I help?" She felt compelled to try and help the woman. Her voice earnest hoping that in some way she could assist this stranger.

"Blood laced?" She frowned a little but didn't hold it against the woman for slapping her hand away like that. She cast a glance over at the bar. She had a pretty good knowledge of wines, but blood wines was something new to her. Things had really changed while she had been... away. She made her way over to the bar and began looking through the wines she could see, but they were very basic and she didn't know how things were arranged. "Alright, dry white there, sweet there, sparkling there. This? No, rose wine. Would it be under fortified or savory reds?" She frowned and turned to ask Selmaina or Daemala. However the words caught in her throat as she witnessed the savagery of the woman she was trying to help. She backed up against the bar, aghast and only able to watch in horror.

M. Dietrich was backing away from the scene, unable to take her eyes off of it when she felt the crushing pressure that seemed to crush down on her entire body from all angles, propping her up even as it tried to knock her down. Her form flickered, like a movie reel skipping frames and blotches like burns started to appear on her form, spreading like burn marks. There was a moment when she was afraid that it would be her end before she had even begun again. But then the pressure broke, and her body snapped back to what it had been before, satin perfection. She stumbled a little and found she could move again. The pressure was there, she knew it, could feel it, but it no longer seemed to be restraining her. She ducked back into a corner and tried to make herself invisible in the shadows. "This was not how I imagined my return to be like." She murmured to herself, her voice a seductive purr even now.

Reisel Dracul entered Tauvyr Tavern, wondering what exactly the hell was going on. He had seen soldiers come flooding in, observed a woman cowering in a corner, an enraged and bewildered Daemala brandishing a bottle of wine, and another one of his soldiers down.

Enough!
The Vampire thundered, hair erupting on the back of his neck and hands. Visibly his fangs extended, as he and Daemala worked together against the pressures on everyone's third eye.

You will leave,
Reisel said to Gro'chal, the presence, "Without returning until you can coexist," The soldiers joined in on the mental pressure, slowly taking part in the rising resistance against the presence. Reisel crossed to M. Dietrich as Daemala stood with her eyes closed on the table, chanting to herself.

M. Dietrich was captivated by the horror of what the peaceful and pleasureful wine bar had turned into. Even her own table was ruined, the bottle of Orvietto Abboccato '82 was overturned from its ice and spilling out gently onto the floor. She settled back against the wall and tried to remember some of the somber horrors of her life, and knew that things could get a lot worse than this. She looked down at her dress, speckled with things she would rather not think about, and made a vow to wear trousers from now on unless performing. She preferred them anyway, it was just that she wanted to feel particularly pretty as she made her debut. "I think I'm going to need a stronger drink." She spoke aloud, not even aware she had done so.

Daemala found herself standing on a table, a corpse over there, and her new place in shambles. A fluster actually took itself to her face. She was about to ask a question, demand clean up, something, anything, when Reisel spoke.

"Men," He said slightly bewildered, "Help Madame Tauvyr clean the tavern." He bowed his head, extending a hand to M. Dietrich. Daemala looked at her clothes with slight horror, then back to the corpse. Oh shit, oh dear, oh crap.

"I so apologize, madame," She gushed, hopping from the table and righting the bottle. It was then Daemala looked to the crumpled, broken, feral lady.

"Are you alright?" The corpse was a corpse. Daemala bothered not with it while another soldier dragged it away. "Ix, the salmon?" She looked then to the ruined bottle of wine and the tables. Reisel held up a hand.

"We've got it, ma'am."

M. Dietrich took the proffered hand and stood, unsteady for a moment, her form flickered again and she was perfectly clean, every bit of her dress, including the long feathered boa that ran almost all the way down to the floor. "Well, it seems my debut was less stellar than I had imagined. Thank you for your intervention, sir. I must say I have never seen anything like it before, and I thought that I was fairly well traveled." She seemed to look off into space for a moment before she shivered to herself and gave him a smile. "To whom do I owe my thanks?"

M. Dietrich made her way into Tauvyr Tavern and looked around slowly. She smiled a little and made her way up to the automated bar and requested a glass of water and took it up onto the small stage. She looked over at the piano there and hummed a few notes. The piano seemed to hear her and the keys begin to play a gently melancholy song to which she dedicated a wistful smile.
"Falling in love again/ Never wanted to/ What am I to do?/I can't help it
Love's always been my game/Play it how I may/I was made that way/I can't help it
Men cluster to me/ Like moths around a flame/ And if their wings burn/ I know I'm not to blame
Falling in love again/ Never wanted to/ What am I to do?/ I just can't help it."

M. Dietrich sipped her water and the piano continued to play, a vague outline of a man in a suit, black and white like her began to appear, but only visible out of the corner of an observer's eye and without any clear definition of features. Her melancholy smile disappeared to a bit more mischievous one. Her body swayed a little as the beat picked up for another song. "Kisses, sweeter than wine," she sang gently, looking around, and the tavern seemed to fill with other ghostly figures in formal dress. Some drinking, others, talking in inaudible tones, others just bobbing their heads and listening to the song she sang.

M. Dietrich took a few moments after the last song to take a sip of the water by her. More of the band faded gently into view. None of the figures besides her had any of the sharp clarity she had, general features, but no identity. She nodded to each as through she knew them though and several picked up instruments, clarinet, a base, a small drum set. A old style jazz tune struck itself up and she joined in. Her words not English this time, but singing in German, though it is in another language it detracts little from the narrative of the song, a story seemed to be told in her words and actions, flirting and coy conquest of lovers.

M. Dietrich took a breath and sighed wistfully at the story she told. A couple figures clap and the sound can be heard, the approval and thanks of these black and white phantoms filling the tavern. She nodded to them and gave a throaty chuckle. "Ah, it's been so long since I've done this. Thank you all for your support. I think one more for now. I'll be back on later." She sipped her water and smiled. "Now... what to sing? Oh, I know. Not one of mine... but I wish it had been." She hummed a little and the band members nodded to one another, they knew the tune and were enthusiastic to hear her on this one. "Whatever Lola Wants..." She sang, casting her eyes around, sometimes landing on a phantom or another patron of the bar.

Once the song was done she let out a throaty chuckle, hinting at knowledge forbidden and reactions concealed, but of course, she couldn't really know, could she?
"Oh, thank you all. Please don't go too far. I'll be back on stage later." She left the band playing as the phantasmal audience applauded her. She made her way down from the small stage and over towards the bar. She nodded to the bartender and ordered a glass of Pignot Noir Rose wine. Her natural voice low and breathy, combined with her bedroom eyes presented quite an alluring image. She was entirely in monochrome, shades of grey, though presumably she would be blonde if color could appear on her. She looked at Frank and gave a small smile. "Hey there Handsome, spare a cigarette for a girl with a... craving?"

M. Dietrich seemed pleased with his antics, apparently she enjoyed causing such reactions and wasn't offended at all by the initial volume of his outburst. "Oh, why thank you," she daintily plucked the cigarette from his fingers and put it to her lips, waiting for him to light it. Though as she took the cigarette between her fingers what little color drained away from it leaving it the same range of grays as she. Once it was lit the end glowed red very briefly before turning into a gray smolder just like one might see in the old black and white movies. She took a gentle draw as she sat back and exhaled a long stream of smoke over the bar as she took her wine in hand. "Thank you," she nodded to Frank. "I take it you enjoyed my little performance?"

"A pleasure to meet you, Frank. And I'm M." She held out a delicate and soft hand to him, clearly never worked hard in her life. "This is just my second time singing here. You haven't missed much." She sipped her wine while she held the cigarette in her other hand. "I haven't been here all that long. I'm still finding my way around the city." She liked his eyes, so clear and blue. She had found that since becoming monochrome she had come to enjoy colors a great deal more, especially those on people. She set her wine down and ran a long finger slowly around he rim of her glass.
