Description

Description
Name: Midgra
Alias(es): Dave
Age: 4 (28)
Height: 3'9"
Weight: 45lbs
Eyes: Green
Gender: Male
Race or Species: Uncertain
Build: Skinny
Family: None

Midgra stands shorter than everyone in most rooms. This is pretty much to be expected as he is a fox, quite literally, on two legs. His walk is stunted, but he uses no cane. His hands appear similar, once natural, but now contorted into a more human shape, almost similar to a raccoon paws. Along his neck and spine, down all his limbs is almost unoticeable bald spot, almost making a perfect map of his nervous system. One of his eyes has been clouded out, leaving a milky white orb next to his otherwise perfectly healthy one on the left. His depth perception seems unnafected by his apparent partial blindness. His left ear is missing a rather large chunk as well. His Teeth have been yellowed by smoking, and his fur is dull and patchy. He is skinny, like most scavengers are. He coughs quite a bit, probably due to his aforementioned smoking.

So begins...

Midgra had been stranded here for days it seemed. Flat broke, without his equipment, glamor or ship. He had been left out here when his uneasy partnership with a fellow nomad had ended with him being knocked out and his ship robbed. Grimacing at the thought of trying to socialize on an empty stomach and this early in the day made him feel a bit sleazy, but he figured whoever else was drinking in there would be just as sleazy as him at least. He needed to find someone to get him out of here. And look at what his eyes do see, a very perturbed man day drinking.

Midgra looked around the mainly empty bar, and sat next to him on a stool. He ordered a rum and coke, minus the ice and cola, hoping the Bartender didn't remember ejecting him last night for inability to pay.

He looked up to the giant fellow.

"So uh, hows it?" Midgra said in an unplaceable accent.

"S'aaaaight," Kun Kuo sighed at the newcomer. The Hunt had ended for the day, so the tele was a bust in terms of entertainment. It was more something to hypno into, zone out, and think. Kun Kuo was tired of thinking. There wasn't much left to think. He had exhausted almost all avenues - almost.

"Here for the Hunt?" Most were here for The Hunt. Some were even starting to recognize him! Winning does that.

Midgra began to smile as he let the drunken slur filter into his ears. It was better than music. The bartender had obviously remembered him, but seemed willing to give him his third or fourth chance. His drink came sliding across the table. catching it and taking a sip, Middy was slightly surprised the man didn't have anything to say about his size or appearance, and thought it pretty comical that he thought Midgra was in the competition at all. He had come to con people out of their money and ships, but had it happen to him instead after a night of heavy drinking.

But now, his luck seemed to be changing.

".... Yes!"
He hesitated as he said so. He could see the bartender roll his eyes as he cleaned a glass.

"Just... So much hunting has been going on lately. How about you? Did you win? You.. You just look like a winner there."
He gave him a playful punch with his right paw and got another sip of rum, almost killing the glass off.
"But winners don't drink when its daylight, they certainly don't sit in a sad bar with sad people. What is wrong? Why are you here?"

Before he could let him begin to answer, he cut him off again. Midgra had forgotten his manners.

"My apologies. My name is Midgra! And you are?"

Kun Kuo raised a brow and finished his drink, clearly this guy was not from around here. Maybe from one of those colonies that swore off Hunts some hundred years ago and are just now reacclimatizing to greater society. He shrugged it off and gave Midgra a crooked smile. Two of his teeth were missing.

"My name is Kun Kuo, it is nice to meet you Midgra. So far, yes, I win and I win and I win," he said, swiveling to show a decorated arm band. It was one of the ways participants in The Hunt tracked and displayed their valor.

"And I win, and I drink, and today I drink in daylight for there are no fights to win," he trailed off the end of his sentence, as if that wasn't entirely the whole story, and it wasn't. His sister was missing. Kun Kuo sighed, and figured it was worth starting official inquiry. It was too soon to go to the authorities. Fashion choices weren't exactly probably cause.

"Have you, by chance, seen anyone with bright orange hair, on your way around today?" There was such hope in his eyes, "Bartender! Another round please. For myself and, er, Midgra here!"

Midgra tapped the glass he was holding involuntarily while Kun spoke in a quick rhythmic fashion. He nodded along with the story, his eyes still darting around the room and quickly back to the bar. When posited the question of the orange haired person, Midgra laughed at Kun for a split second, before realizing he was very serious. He trailed off into a fake cough, and reassesed the situation as the next round slid up the bar to them.

"Well, uh. That is small amount of description. We need more to on. But no, no orange haired peoples."

He picked up the next glass and sipped.

"Why do you look for this person? Do they owe you money? Did they steal from you?"

Midgra's questions were inadvertently giving hints on the type of people he was used to dealing with. He went a little further into thought, when a synapse seemingly fired in his mind. He grinned, mainly to himself. He wasn't the best at hiding his inner train of thought.

"Tell you what, how about I help you find this person, and we will find them fast. Then you help me by owing me one a little later."

He reached out for a handshake, looking back at Kun.

"Money, no. Theft, just my peace of mind," Kun Kuo took a drink of his new beverage, thought second, and killed it. He rolled the strangers proposal of help around in his mind. Was it the best idea? Probably not, but at the moment this stranger might be his only option. Nobody else had seen her. Nobody else would care for another day or so. By then it could be too late for Niira.

Kun looked Midgra up and down once more. Was he going to regret this later? He took a deep breath and accepted Midgra's hand, shaking it up once and then down in a firm motion.

"Consider me indebted. We are looking for my sister," and so Kun Kuo Pongal went on to describe his sister's looks, from her striking orange hair to her favorite leather and gold hover-bike riding ensemble, to the strange abbreviated speech pattern she picked up from her peers in education last season. As he spoke, he ordered yet another round, and got visibly more uncomfortable with the fact that he had no idea where his sister could be.

"Last I knew, she was going for lunch at a local place where people who like to be seen are seen, followed by a ride around the edge and border of the city."

Midgra couldn't help but laugh with elation as his hand was shaken. Trying his best to squeeze back even a fraction as hard as Kun was, he finally got his paw loose from the shake, and clapped his hands. We'll be out of here in no time. Now that Midgra was on the case, his full attention went to Kun as he described her. He could clearly see Kun was extremely broken up about losing his kin. After he finished, Midgra leaned over the bar, crossing his arms and resting his head atop them. A second later he sat straight up, finished his drink and hopped down off of the stool. Pacing back and fourth, he pondered aloud.

"If seen people are seen at this restaurant, that would obliviously mean people were watching. Somebody's eyeballs has seen her down there."

Midgra stopped in his tracks, and looked back at Kun, noticing the bartender right behind him, his stare quickly cooling to an icy one as he started to see what Midgra's idea was.

"Em... Yes! And we must hurry before people's memories get hairy. She could be in trouble!"

He pointed straight up in the air as he spoke, then patted his pockets up and down to make sure he had what little possessions he had left and ran out the door, leaving Kun with the bill.
He had no intentions of abandoning the guy, but to simply reconvene with him outside without the hassle of paying the barkeep. He had no intentions of paying today either.

Kun Kuo Pongal tossed a small satchel of money onto the counter, giving the bartender a half smile. His hopes had been momentarily restored by the enthusiasm of the stranger, regardless of how strange they acted.

"Y'know 'e did that on purpose," remarked the bartender, to which Kun Kuo shrugged. He pulled a bright orange beanie from his back pocket and yanked it over his yellow hair. Their grandmother had made it for him four Hunts ago, which had inspired Niira to explore the color on her own head. On the rare occasion he went to the club with her it was a key piece of his ensemble. It made them match & he easy to find, and gave anyone who wanted to give him trouble a second thought. After all, who the garg wears a bright orange beanie in the heat of these days?

"Anyone who is willing to set aside their time to help a stranger in their life, is a welcome addition to my tab and table," and on that note, Kun Kuo went to meet Midgra outside.

Midgra ran out the doorway and flattened against the wall, watching the closing door of the Hangover seal. Waiting a few seconds, his stance relaxed as he looked around the bustling street. Glancing back at the door once more, it seemed like Kun had picked up the tab like he had hoped. Middy obviously wasn't the best judge of character, or indeed the best character. But as he struck a match and lit a cigarette he had rolled earlier, he thought of Kun as a person not worthy of getting screwed over. When we find his sister, he'll be so happy he'll have to help him anyways, Midgra deduced. he knew a good person when he met one though, and that is what Kun struck him as.

Only a few puffs later Kun had emerged. Midgra was quick to try and keep the conversation moving foreward, hoping that Kun would completely disregard the bartender.

"Now! Where is your ship? We be going to the restaurant now."

He flicked the half smoked butt out into the road, and filled his lungs with air as he looked around for ships or anything of the like that Kun would have. He saw only hover bikes. He began to fill with dismay as he looked up to Kun as a pedestrian walked between them, giving them both an odd look.

Midgra's eyes dilated and focused as he looked around, thinly masked frustration boiling up behind his eyes. Regaining his composure he looked straight down the street, and asked bluntly:

"Heh... So I guess its Hover bikes then? Uh..."

He trailed off and chuckled nervously, hand reaching up to scratch the back of his neck. He was a great pilot in his mind. But he had never even tried to ride one of these before. Midgra waited to see what bike Kun went for. He'd have to steal one and pretend to know what he was doing, as his dignity would not allow him to ask to ride on the back of Kun's without him offering.

Kun Kuo nodded, swinging himself onto his retro styled hover bike. The undercarriage cast an orange glow on the ground as it whirred to life. He shot Midgra a slight grin, gesturing towards the back of his bike, before jamming his helmet.

The restaurant where Niira was last known to be wasn't far, but one wouldn't want to walk from here. The side streets and narrow alley ways Kun Kuo whipped through on a bike were seedy on foot. He took the quickest route, winding this way and that, ruining clotheslines in his pursuit.

When they finally arrived Kun Kuo parked by the kitchens. The back of the building was nowhere near as glorious as the front, just sand brick and embellished keystones. As they rounded the building, the facade would become more intricate, carvings swirled into the sandstone in sharp organic contrast to the bricks in back.

Midgra watched Kun put on his helmet and tentatively got on the back of the bike. He looked down at his feet on either side of the bike and attempted to ask exactly what he was supposed to do, when the bike took off. Midgra desperately grabbed at Kun's shirt to stay on the bike and held on for dear life, seeing as he didn't have a helmet. To be honest, he didn't have that great a grip on Kun, either. As they sped down the tiny corridors Midgra had just about gotten thrown off by the G forces of the tighter turns but somehow managed to keep himself planted to the seat.

They came to a stop outside the restaurant, the first thing to hit his senses was the smell of cooking meat, quickly overshadowed by the scent of garbage from a nearby dumpster. Middy's heart was racing, adrenaline still pounding through his veins. He did his best to straddle the bike and step down, but got his foot stuck it came over the seat. He stumbled as his leg came down, breath still slightly heavy as he gained his normal stance.

"So this is it?" Middy inquired, running his fingers along the grooves in the walls absentmindedly, following the wall to the entrance. Making sure that Kun was still beside him he opened the door and walked inside.

Kun Kuo nodded and absently smoothed down his clothes. This place was the type of place Niira had always belonged, this and more. She was only able to get in this season due to Kun Kuo's achievements. Being a success in the Hunt meant a certain status of celebrity outside. He had been invited to dinner here once; that was all it had taken for his sister to solidify herself as a regular socialite in Cafe Eun.

Inside was even more beautiful than the outside. Soft light in splashes of cool colors, shadows dancing on almost ever surface. No wonder she loved it here, Kun Kuo thought to himself as he regarded the black lights. Her hair would have looked awesome.

Walking in was one thing, talking to anyone was another. Kun Kuo may have high prospects for his sister, and he may be a champion, but he didn't seem to belong at all in places like these. A hole in the wall tavern was more his style. He nervously looked to Midgra. What if nobody knew anything?

Midgra looked up Kun and nodded, feeling his anxiety. He supposed he had the right to be nervous, but hopefully it wasn't because Midgra had almost no clue what he was doing. The illusion of confidence is one that he was good at, and tried to purvey a little to ease Kun's nerves. Nonchalantly walking under the black lights towards the bar, it was much harder for him to blend in, if it was possible at all. his orange and white fur lit up the entire place, but Midgra seemed blissfully unaware of this as he walked to the very back and to the bar. He hopped up and tried to flag down someone for a drink, with no success.

He hadn't seen if Kun had followed him or not, but what Midgra did see was a blonde lady sitting across the bar from him, putting on lipstick. He didn't have a gauge to tell if she was humanly attractive or not, but figured she most likely was given the location they were currently in. Either way, she had a few glasses in front of her. Midgra guessed she had probably been here waiting to meet someone. For how long is what he couldn't say.

Either way, he abandoned his quest for a drink and bee-lined over to her table. She double took as he approached, not quite certain she was actually seeing a walking fox sit down at the chair next to her. He smiled and laughed just a bit.

"So I don't want to be bothering you too much nice lady." He started out with in as suave a tone as he could muster through his thick accent.

"But we are looking for my best of friends. She has orange hair and..."

He explained to her in detail as she looked slightly bored and annoyed with him. She stopped him with a roll of her eyes and stood up.

"This is why dogs shouldn't be able to talk." She muttered, walking away to another, more secluded table.

"Well screw you hairless she monkey!" He yelled after her, visibly offended.

Kun Kuo ordered them both a drink, and then promptly proceeded to completely ignore Midgra's confrontation. Well, he tried to ignore it. Kun Kuo couldn't help chortling into his drink at 'she monkey'.

"Smooth," he remarked, but before he could goad any more the bartender set Midgra's drink down in and leaned in.

"I know who you're talkin' about. The fast chic-woah I didn't mean it like that, buddy!" Kun Kuo had stood up with his hands on the counter, ready to leap over it and fight. His sister was pure.

"She's always beating the macho men here at their own game, see the thing is nobody can so much as buy her a drink if they don't know their way around a hoverbike. Only one sap's ever beat her at her own race. Two nights ago, so you're two nights too late, boys," The bartender made kissy-kissy faces at Kun Kuo and Midgra. He must not have realized Kun Kuo was his sister, and assumed the two must be there to attempt to court Niira. Kun Kuo turned scarlet.

Midgra returned to the bar, pulling himself up onto a stool. He looked straight ahead to the bottles on the shelf behind the bar, eyes dilating as he focused on the various labels. He did his best to move on from the moment, wearing a placid unreadable expression. The only sign of further annoyance from him came when Kun remarked "Smooth", as his ears pinned back momentarily. He remained eyes forward.
As the bartender began to speak, before Midgra could even turn his eyes to him Kun looked ready to pulverize the man. Luckily it seemed cooler heads prevailed as he allowed the bartender to continue speaking.

Upon hearing the word Hoverbike, the terrifying, loud and raucous ride flashed across his minds eye for a split second, causing him to twitch slightly with anxiety. But wait... The trail was heating up again! A small smile slowly turned into a toothy grin as the bartender dispensed the information. As far as the implications that the bartender was making, it went sailing over his head. He was already looking up to Kun and grabbing the glass he had ordered for him with both paws.

"See?! All part of my plan. Yes it was." He nodded matter of factly, taking a large drink of his beer.

"Now!" He snapped at the bartender.

"Who was the stranger? Why do you call him sap? Is that the face she makes with the..."

He did his best to emulate the kissy face the Bartender had done. Looking to Kun, who he hadn't noticed was red with embarrassment.

"Wait!" He exclaimed. "Where is the race you say no one beats her at?"

Midgra could sense they were getting a closer, even if it was just a baby step.

"MMmm," The bartender shifted back, glancing around the bar. It was possible he had already said too much. The races weren't legal, and this last one was a risk and a half.

"What interest do you have in ah," He gestured with a glass, "This kind of thing?"

Kun Kuo was silent. Inside, fuming. She wasn't supposed to be racing anymore. It was too dangerous, not to mention completely illegal. That was just the tip of the iceberg. He knew she went places to be seen. Part of their life plan was for Niira to marry high and be set for life. Kun Kuo was going to earn her status through championing the Hunt. She would secure her reputation as a flower in a garden.

Flower in a garden my ass, Kun Kuo muttered to himself. To find out she was not only still illegally competing, but being courted by the competition? He gazed around the establishment. Just what kind of scum did they let into this place? Kun Kuo was unfamiliar with the world of underground racing in the big city. It was more of an investment sport than scrappy kids on bikes in the alley, like he was used to.

Midgra stood up on the stool he was perched on and leaned forewards closer to the bartender, glaring into his eyes. He heard Kun Kuo muttering, and briefly wondered why in the world anyone would want a garden there. Before he could lose his train of thought however, he kept his eyes on the man behind the bar. While his stature might be small and unimposing, maybe he could use Kuns size to intimidate the information out of him.

"We have a great deal of Interest in a great many things good friend. We like to bet, and we like to race. But my friend..."

He gestured to Kun.

"He isn't interested in answering that question. He is interested in that race though. VERY. Interested."

He chuckled just a bit and looked back at Kun, acting like he was reading a sign from his facial expressions. Lingering for just a second, he silently nodded and turned back to the bartender, grabbing his drink and finishing it off.

"We will find out where the race is, friend. No doubt about that. You don't have to tell us now either."

He gestured to the various people both waiting tables and being waited on.

"These people will leave. You will go home. Maybe we will be there too. Maybe my friend will be very interested in your unbroken kneecaps. Or, you can tell us, and we can leave. Your kneecaps will thank you."

He reached over the bar with his glass in hand, filling it up with another beer from the tap, never breaking eye contact. Taking a small sip, he smacked his lips and made an accompanying sound of satisfaction.

"Take your time, we will be here waiting for you either way."

Midgra sat back down on the stool, taking a more relaxed stance and a drink of beer. He unblinkingly stared at the bartender, hoping to make it very clear Midgra was dead serious.

This guy, Kun Kuo thought to himself, watching in awe as Midgra wiped the ground with any jurisdiction the bartender thought he had in the conversation. The fox was smooth as sand and cold as ice. Impressive in the least. It almost made him nervous. How did this guy get so good?

The bartender blinked at the pair, as if he had a glitch in his system, and then took a deep breath. They really weren't messin around.

"Alright. There's an outpost in Dalgarei where some folks have built an underground rager," He swiftly away'd to serve someone else, looking darkly at them down the bar.

Midgra's demeanor instantly changed as the bartender turned his back. He plopped back down onto the stool and released the glass, craning his neck back to Kun.

"They always want to keep the kneecaps."

He smiled innocently, turning a full 360 degrees atop the stool before jumping off, reaching into his coat pocket for a cigarette. He lit it with a fluid motion from the Zippo in his other hand. Exhaling through his nostrils and giving a small cough he looked back at the bartender one last time before beginning to walk out. The bartender in turn looked at Kun and then back down to the bar, running a rag across the surface in a circular motion.

"Come giant man, we know where she is now!"

His thick accent drifted away through the sounds of the restaurant towards the exit as he walked away. All things considered, that had taken a lot less time than he had thought it would. Now all they needed was to high tail it to Dalgarei. Bursting through the front door, he began to look around for Kun's bike, taking an excited puff of his cigarette. He wasn't looking forward to another ride on that thing, but he was getting more into the chase now, and wanted to see where all this was heading to.

Midgra was already three drinks deep into the whole plan for his afternoon, and no way to pay for it. Of course, that is a problem that will come to a head later. The problem he had now was the agitated man who had just sat down next to him. Doing his best to appear to not be paying attention, he looked straight ahead to the row of bottles behind the counter. His ears betrayed him however as they were swivelled in to hear what the man had to say.

Midgra let the man huff and puff. Honestly, Middy found it hilarious when he made people nervous, or what he would percieve as making people nervous. Being slightly skittish himself though, when the man finally spoke he jumped up in his barstool, slightly delayed from the effects of the alchohol. Turning to look at the man, he did his best to give him a toothy grin. "I was here first rude man." He said in a thick unplaceable accent. He sighed, and looked around the bar. "And will probably be here last, like last night." The words of a true barfly, perhaps seeking purpose, but not very hard. Doing his best to not eye the mans bottle of wine, he finished off his cocktail.

Midgra just returned the mans stare, grin returning to his face as he popped the cork. "You will need someone to keep you company while you drink!" That will be me." Midgra stated matter of factly, looking over to the bartender and trying to wave him down. Not having much luck as the bar was busy, and Middy hadn't paid in days. His paw went back down and rested on the bar in defeat, as he turned back to the man. "So you! What is your name. Why are you here? Why the cape? Is that imported wine? Why is your accent so strange?" Midgra didn't mean to bombard the man with questions, but when he was curious, he was insatiably so.
