Take it do I, knowing in full well, that all things end and that I take this to slow the unyielding force of ending. I take this sword knowing the blood of my sisters and my brothers lies of its blade. I take this to bring them victory where they hath had defeat and hope where they had none. I take this and I swear never do I kill without cause. My blade defends only the innocent and weak. My blade rises only against those whom seek to bring harm to that of which I am sworn to protect. Knowing all this and being of sound heart and mind do I take this sword, Valor and swear my honor. This I swear."

Skills and Talents:

- Trained and practiced in the use of Varden and Solari firearms.
- Trained and practiced in the use of Varden and Solari equipment and most craft.
- Modified to jack into a ship or vehicle's systems to pilot the vessel via direct mental input.
- Fit and strong, with high endurance and fortitude.
- Trained in hand-to-hand combat, both unarmed and with bladed and blunt weapons.
- Exceptional reflexes.

Abilities:

-- Void: Solari are unaffected by most assaults of a psionic nature and many assaults of a magical nature.

-- Resistance: Solari can shut their mind off from their senses, making them extremely difficult to torture.

-- Ashes: Solari turn to a fine black dust shortly after they are killed. When this process is complete they cannot be revived.

Weapons & Equipment:

-- Nova VP8: Close range combat knife that uses hyper-vibrations and heat to easily cut through solid steel and many much harder substances. The VP8 uses capacitor cells loaded at the bottom of the grip but these seldom need to be changed out unless the knife is used excessively. The blade itself is constructed of an adamant core surrounded by vibranium, with a diamondine edge.
-- Arc VP12, Sidearm: A short-to-med ranged phaser pistol that easily bypasses most shield based defense systems and applies electromagnetic and thermal damage to armor based systems. It also has some weak atomic destabilization properties like disruptors. The beam fired by this pistol can easily cut through most conventional armor and cause massive heat damage to tougher stuff. The pistol has two settings that allow for continuous fire or pulse fire. The VP12 requires no ammo but does use up capacitor cells that are loaded at the top of the weapon above the grip. The continuous fire mode causes these capacitor cells to deplete much more swiftly and can potentially damage the weapon if done too frequently.
-- EGO (Environmental Guardian Online): A symbiotic neuro-muscular bionetic implant, EGO alters its host at the genetic level, providing encyclopedic heads-up intelligence, while simultaneously unlocking and managing corporeal-maximization, or EGO Powers. Many Varden personnel utilize EGO which provides the user with four short timed psionic like abilities that can be used on the fly and with very little concentration. Those abilities are blur, cloak, decoy, and overcharge. EGO sharpens the senses, provides easy communication between members in the same solar system, provides access to a database of knowledge, a heads up display, and an assistant AI among other small perks.

Rye Apis entered the bar, nearly having to duck under the front door jam and then shut the door behind him. He was very tall and broadly built, taller than most NBA basketball players and more broadly build than most NFL football players. He did not delay near the door and found his way over to a seat at the bar. Of garb he wore a green button down and jeans with cowboy boots on his feet. Wrapping his neck was a scarf knit with green and black colors.

He didn’t say anything but he did manage to peruse the menu via one of the touch screen pads that were sitting at the bar. Apparently he did not like anything on the menu because he shortly put the pad down without ordering anything.

Rye Apis turned to Silas briefly and then back again. He huffed, sighed, and then picked up the menu pad to peruse it again. This time he did choose something from the menu, a shot of whiskey. He briefly did managed to turn his head to look at the pirate. "Could do first aid. Got no medical supplies.", he said in a voice just as deep as he was big.

Rye Apis me stood and bent forward over the bar, grabbing a bottle of vodka before turning and moving in the direction of pirate and dragon had been. "Where are ya hurt and what happened?", he said, attempting to assess his medical condition. As he waited for an answer and looked the pirate over he passed the shorter man the bottle.

Rye Apis frowned. "Fuck man isn't there a hospital nearby? You definitely need stitches and no offense but I rather not work on that wound even if I had needle and thread to close it up." He took the expression of a half-scowl and the seat near the pirate.

Rye Apis let his scowl fade into a slight smile and chuckled. "Likely behind the bar." Despite the attempt to read his mind, Elijah would 'hear' from him that he did not say with his mouth. "You do fit the bill of a sea going brigand.", he said to Ignatius. "Call me Rye."

Rye Apis rubbed his chin. "I said that ya did fit the bill but I imagine the only thing that could make you more pirate like would be some scurvy, a parrot, a peg leg, and a hook for a hand." They were brought a bottle of rum though the server was not exactly sure which of them to charge for it. She just assumed that Rye was buying, something that Rye may have cause to be angry about down the road. "Good name. Ignatius. I like that."

Rye Apis watched as the pirate hit the server on the ass with his palm but chuckled when she had walked away. "You are lucky that... sabre? Cutlass? You are lucky you weren't cut a few inches lower or I doubt you would have made it here. Why did whoever cut you have cause to cut you if I may be so bold as to ask?"

Rye Apis chuckled some more. He had not laughed so often in such a short span of time in many years. "That explains it then.", he said to the pirate between spurts of laughter. "I am sure you will. As for me I am just passing through. Seems some tough times are head for the locals. I heard a lot of good things about this city but getting here it just looks like a pile of rubble."

Rye Apis just smiled. "I am sure there will be enough confusion in the near future for you to have your fill." At the other comment he just shook his head. "Not sure. Like I said I am just passing through. He turned to the door where the woman stood and check his watch. "That is my ride Ignatius. Was a pleasure to meet you." He stood.

Rye Apis had noticed Ameris but had not acknowledged her. It was getting to that point where one would think the other is consciously ignoring the other person. This was not the case and so he nodded to her and smiled. It was a simple greeting but good enough for someone he did not know.

Rye Apis walked along the long and active corridors of Sol Stat, the name given to the station that acted as a staging point for the Varden Expeditionary Fleet and Theater in the Sol system. Shinedown had been docked via a gravity mooring as she was too large to dock into the station despite the outpost’s impressive size. He had come to sit down with Warden Rosenthal to discuss the actions taken by the expeditionary force up to this point at Warden Haldis Arlan’s request. Apparently she did not feel like dealing with the council. Likely it was just John she didn’t want to deal with. He was an outspoken advocate when it came to war crimes against the human race and had been a pusher to get the Varden to react to the Aschen threat at all. It was far outside their jurisdiction and well beyond the boundaries of the five empires.

He passed a window, stopping to examine the distant yellow star as a distant chunk of interstellar ice drifted across the scene. The fleet was ready but with the Taiyou forces routing the Aschen they had limited their interaction with the other factions present to providing aid in the form of supplies. They had also run escort for some of the other factions without even alerting them to their presence. Even the small engagement with the Aschen Admiral, Sheila Nagala’s wounded fleet was laughable. “All this way and with all these toys to sit on our hands.”, he said aloud before turning away from the window and the hundreds of ships caught in view.

It was his blood that made him crave battle and the vow and commitment to duty that reined his blood lust in. He approached the conference room door. It opened, allowing him to enter a room very much like most corporate boardrooms. “Warden Rosenthal.”, he said, addressing the man that was already in the room. “I have come at Warden Arlan’s request.”

John Rosenthal motioned to Admiral Rostam as the giant of a man, Rye crossed his arms and raised an eye brow before sitting next to John. When there was a pause in Rostam's address he took a moment to brief Apis. "UCON delegation arrived a few arns ago.", he said at a whisper.

Rye Apis had not seen the devastation first hand but had been getting regular briefings from Warden Kenshi. "I am Admiral Apis. The Aschen know of us and there is no love between us.", he turned back to John. "Have you briefed them on our capabilities or...", he said, pausing and then turning back to the UCON Admiral. "... you have to understand that we are not interested in assisting forces, governments, or other organizations that intend to set up a dictatorship or subjugate the local population. "Is your interests in Terra anything but humanitarian? Forgive me if you have already spoken to Councilor Rosenthal on the matter. I thought this meeting involved another matter and was not briefed properly.”

Rye Apis nodded but looked dumbstruck after the counselor’s statement. He took a moment to compose himself and then turned back to the UCON admiral. “We are a peacekeeping force, not a military organization
”, he turned back to the counselor. “
not one of the navies.” He leaned back in the seat and folded his arms. “We did come into Sol expecting a fight and are prepared to do so but we have neither the supply chain nor the numbers to take the fight to the Aschen core systems.”

He stood, leaning forward. “The mandate authorized by the council is the liberation and protection of Terra, the Sol system, and the offering of assistance to reestablish the Terran National Government unless amended by the council.” His eyes glanced at John. “You know this Warden Rosenthal. You are a council member.”

Apis then stood and looked to Admiral Rohnfeld. “The fleet here at Sol Stat and in the Sol system can offer assistance assaulting Aschen targets in Sol, the surrounding region, and this constellation provided that it is for the best interest of defending in furthering that mandate. We are also well capable of providing fleet support.” He said before pulling a device that resembled a smart phone from his pocket. “UCON leadership will need a briefing on how we operate. Specifically they will need to know our tactics and our technological capabilities before we can offer assistance. Friendly fire is not friendly.

"You did mention the Taiyou. We were already aware that they have started their attack on the Aschen. Do you know of their intent? I was briefed on an incident that took place in Wing City where a Taiyou craft fired on the city and abducted a WCPD officer.", he said, following Rye.

Jessica Rohnfeld made a mental note as the conversation turned to Terra, her demeanor going a bit dimmer as she responded. “Every other empire’s thrown it’s hand into making a nation on Terra -- certainly their scenario is unfortunate, they are the road to the Aschen, but that’s just geopolitics.” She said back to them calmly, taking a small datapiece from the Lieutenant Major next to her. “You are ‘liberating’ Terra now but we ‘liberated’ it two decades ago during the First Terran Conflict -- face-to-face, soldier-to-soldier -- their stability can not come internally. A controlled Aschen power means a stable Local Region, a stable Terra.”

Jessica brought a hand to her neck as she fixed the datapiece into the tablet, the lists and numbers overmark with casualty estimates and entire theater dossiers. “We’re not killing collaborators like the Taiyou -- don’t think the Terrans are innocent in this thing either, they play the victim just as much as the Aschen -- but here is what is going to happen; the Taiyou won’t be able to take the fight all the way and that is where we will come in. The faster law and order is restored here, the faster forces in our uniform will be out of the Local Region and into Aschen space.”

Rye Apis clenched his jaw. He already felt that coming to Sol had been a mistake pushed down by the council. Sol would never be truly safe from incursion from extra-terrestrial governments and forces. The little ball of dirt, water, and air was one of trillions in the universe with the spark of life. One against thousands of worlds occupied by confederations, federations, and empires with thousands more under their rule. They would fair no better if a liberating force swept in and pushed the Aschen off. Upon leaving another faction would step in and repeat the process again. With the Varden wanting nothing to do with establishing a permanent colony in Sol this liberation was doomed to fail miserably in the long run. He already knew all this. Hearing Jessica bring it up just brought it to the forefront of his mind which prompted him to clench his jaw.

John Rosenthal looked to Rye and then the UCON admiral. "I will address the council on the subject of posting a larger force in Sol to stage a push through and into the Langaran system." He knew that the council would wish to speak with McGregor before amending the mandate. Given what transpired last time the council addressed the Divine Shadow it would not end well. Of course the council had heard word that Raphael had passed on.

“Such a decision is not made lightly by the council and will take some time. For now we can only operate within the mandate. Since UCON has fought the Aschen over the span of many years, on many planets, and in many systems I think it would go without question that the VEF and VET should follow UCONs lead.”

Rye Apis raised a brow, scowling inwardly even though he maintained his stoic expression. "That goes provided we have similar tactics." In truth he was outraged that his authority was being usurped. "For the best interest of a safe and stable Terra."

Rye Apis nodded, addressing both John and the members of UCON. "I believe the Field Marshal is already trying to establish law and order by co-operating with local law enforcement operations, Invictus, and the Patronus planet side. It does not help their cause that we have been only able to land very sparse heavy equipment without being detected by other factions. My surprise at seeing a UCON delegation on this station should be apparent. You are not unwelcome.”

He looked to John. “The only reason I have not yet marshaled the fleet in an attempt to blockade Terra is that I know nothing of the Taiyou interest in the planet or its people. Especially since the city was fired upon and Emperor Takayama declared war on the Terran National Government. It is this lack of information that stayed Admiral Haldis’s hand. I was planning on briefing you on the situation. Warden Kenshi has been requesting air and low orbit support for some time now. She also needs heavy equipment and the majority of her soldiers.” He knew that Warden Kenshi’s hands were tied with her lack of strength on the ground. There were still pockets of Aschen resistance on the ground. Terrorist acts and crime were a common occurrence. Where and when fighting erupted it was fierce.

Rye Apis endured that unsettling feeling as his consciousness shifted from within to without, to Shinedown’s myriad of ship scanners and systems. He had never enjoyed the sensation. EGO started to perform system checks, linking up with the ship AI even as Apis was patched into SOL net. “SOL Stat, Shinedown, Tango Sierra One Two. Romeo Charlie. Over.” There was a brief delay as EGO took the usual precautions. “Shinedown, Tango Sierra One Two, SOL Stat. Lima Charlie. Over.”, replied SOL Stat. Rye Apis had EGO broadcast a net wide radio check to all the ships in the fleet. A second later EGO replied that all six hundred capital ships and nearly the full complement of sub-caps were reporting. SOL Net was being synced.

“SOL Stat, Shinedown. I am taking command of Terra. Over.”, Apis broadcasted. “Shinedown, SOL Stat. Rodger. Out.” Admiral Haldis’s voice broke communications. “SOL Stat, Globus, Tango Alpha One. I am taking command of Mars. Over.” SOL Stat quickly replied. A moment later EGO split SOL Net into two fleet networks and communications checks were being reissued. The fleet links were going green as multiple ship AIs and EGO synced up. “Terra, Shinedown. Hot align Terra. Hot Align Terra.” Half the fleet started to move using conventional thrusters. A few seconds later the other half of the fleet started to align to a different celestial. Cross Net was checked and synced as the entire Varden fleet trundled into position to enter two separate warp conduits.

“Terra, Shinedown. Your warp in beacon is Charlie Oscar Alpha One Three.”, Apis broadcasted. EGO did redundant checks to confirm and indicated that the fleet links were engaged and that Terra Net, Mars Net, and Cross net were synced. “Terra, Shinedown. All dreadnaughts are to go siege green upon landing.”
