After the summons was made, the mage collapsed onto her knees in exhaustion. It had been a great work of magic to call so many souls to her but it was needed in order to further the quest. Smoke rose from her shoulders and the woman breathed heavily. She did not address those who were summoned just yet, but allowed them to gather their bearing once more. It was not easy traveling through the cosmos.

"You are all in the the Kingdom of Skyfall on the land of Siv'en ..." The voice was small and only those were paused to listen would hear the mage speak. "I am the one who brought you here."

"Water. Someone bring me water." There was a pitcher sitting on a table nearby in a tankard with a wooden cup next to it.

Ry'nn Traeger took the cup with a shaky hand and gave the armored man an nod. The mage took a sip of the water and the smoke which trailed upwards from her form like a mist disappeared. "Many thanks," she said and then Ry'nn stood on wavering legs.

"I am sure that you all must have questions," the woman stated in a slightly stronger and more authoritative voice.

A hand reached out for something along the wall and Ry’nn’s fingers grasp her great ebonywood staff. The woman used it in order to remain on her feet. It was a surprise that she had even survived the summoning at all. Ry’nn had a great well of will and those who were adept in the magical arts would be able to recognize it by sense alone.

“As I said,” she began, “I brought you here. You are all in the Kingdom of Skyfall, in Skyfall Citadel, in the land of Siv’en and on the earth known as Gaia. You all have been chosen as Champions but not by me. I am merely the summoner whom brought you here. There is a great quest for all of us, and a destiny that has been pinned to each of you.”

“Great treasure beyond anything you can imagine awaits you if you stay to listen to my tale,” Ry’nn paused watching the door as it closed when one of the chosen had left.

The woman took another sip of her water from the wooden cup. Ry’nn set it down on the scarred table. There were a motley gathering of people but she trusted in Magic.

“There are seven stones set in an impenetrable fortress called the Crystal Tower. These stones belong to weapons which were forged long ago by Those That No Longer Roam. They are great weapons with unimaginable power.”

She was leaving something out in the information. It was obvious when she hesitated.

Ry'nn Traeger passed a glance around to each of them. Were these the ones that were truly meant to play part in this quest to hold back the looming Shadow crawling across the lands?

“The weapons do not bind to the soul,” Ry’nn said to the Paladin. “They are bound to the Will of a person which is far more grand.”

“I can return you home if that is what you wish. There are many that would gladly take your place for the treasure that lies at the end of the road. Mountains of gold, gems, and jewels as well as the powerful weapon that you will be gaining. Weapons that were tools which shaped the very land we stand upon now,” she explained to Jack.

“Will yourself away and you will go back to where you came from and as if time had never moved.”

“Very well,” she nodded to Karasaad.

The mage stooped and lifted a black canvas bag from beneath the table. It rattled with whatever lay inside of it. Ry’nn removed smaller pouches which held gold coins that were used as currency in Skyfall. She tossed a pouch to each of them, saving the Paladin for last until he was finished with his prayer.

“That should cover expenses while I rest and regain my strength. I suggest you get to know each other and the people here. This place is an Inn. You may rent a room from Bolga, or you may take refuge in the Dwarven Stout across the road.”

“I also recommend you get much rest because we will be leaving shortly to travel across the lands to reach the Atargatis Lake and meet the dragon there.”

“I can tend to myself,” Ry’nn stated while pulling her long ebonywood staff closer to her. The tired woman pulled the canvas bag off of the table and held it at her side. She walked out of the room without another word to be spoken to any of them.

They would survive the night in a new land or they would not. Each of them were led by fate now.

“The Atargatis Lake,” Ry’nn said to the girl next to her, “Do not touch the water. Though it may be colored amethyst and seem tranquil …” The mages words trailed off and she picked up a simple piece of wood from the grass. It was tossed into the lake and the water began to bubble and froth as if the water were made from pure acid.

In the middle of the lake was a long and tall tower. “The Crystal Tower. That is where we will be going in order to get your stone. Not all are destined for them but you,” Ry’nn said turning her eyes to the girl, “are destined for one.”

“It was not my choice. Mother Gaia has chosen you as her Champion,” Ry’nn stated with her mystical voice. She planted her ebonywood staff in the dirt with both hands and stared across the lake.

“You are not afraid of flying, are you,” the mage asked. Before Ebony could answer there was a great screech in the air above their heads. The wind picked up in a rhythm akin to beating wings and a shadow passed over the ground. A grand and rare griffon landed before them, snapping its beak. Such beautiful creatures griffons were with the heads of eagles and sleek bodies of lions. It was so large that it would be able to carry them both effectively.

The griffon fluffed it mantle of feathers and began to rear at the two as if it were going to attack. But Ry’nn lashed out with a lick of flame. The wreath of fire wrapped around the beast and forced it down onto its side. It was a cruel use of magic; forcing the will of another to bend to Ry’nn’s need.

The girl was brave that was something to be greatly admired by Ry’nn. The mage allowed the griffon to gain its footing back and it stood. She wasted no time in mounting the great beast and leaning over to pull Ebony up with her. Once the griffon took off across the lake, Ry’nn finally offered an explanation of why the stones were needed.

“Mother Gaia is under threat and when she is threatened she calls out for champions to save her. They are granted seven stones which unlock the seal for seven legendary weapons. They all do great and terrible things,” Ry’nn said before the griffon gave out a rebellious screech.

The wreath of flame around the creature tightened and choked its cry. Ry’nn held out a hand towards the crystal tower as it loomed near. It was a massive tower and touched the very clouds themselves. And as it namesake suggested, it was made from crystal and shimmered in the suns’ light.

The griffon touched down on the top of the tower where the air was thin. Ry’nn wasted no time in dismounting and walking around the edge of the tower. She held a hand out at a specific point and began to chant.

When the vortex opened a way inside the tower through a great use of Will from Ry’nn, the mage looked at the girl who had many questions.

“Mother Gaia is the earth. She is this very world and an entity all of her own. She is the one that gives us life and shelter. Why she chooses what she chooses is always a mystery. Not all our legends were born from her soil.”

“And she is dying. Withering because darkness never comes to her earth. Chaos rises in the forms of tempests, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions. She needs the Sleeping Hours of darkness to rest and that is why Eras must be awoken. He is the one that grants us darkness and shadow at “Night”.” Night was a thing that did not exist on Gaia. It never grew dark no matter the hour.

“Come. Inside we go,” Ry’nn said before walking down the crystal steps into the tower.

Ebony closed her eyes for a few seconds, then started after Ry'nn. "No night... how did your world survive? I can't imagine a world of perpetual sunlight..." She tried to comprehend what the woman had said, but knew nothing about the names, didn't know enough about the way this place worked to understand the threat of what was rising. It would probably be just the same if her own world had changed... but Ebony wondered about the forces that sought to make this change. "Please, lead the way..."

Ry’nn turned to the girl and held up a finger against her lips. They were at the top of the tower—the top floor—which held the Water Stone. Skeletons were scattered around the ground and some where dangling from the ceiling. Blood stains so old they had grown black were splattered against the crystal walls.

Despite there always being sunlight on Gaia, the room was dark aside from the light that came in from the entrance created by Ry’nn.

“Do you know how to swim,” Ry’nn asked the girl in a very quiet voice.

Her eyes darting around the room and the ancient bodies, Ebony wondered what suspended the skeletons from the ceiling. This place seemed haunted... Ebony was ready for anything, but feared that her powers would be useless in a world of perpetual sunlight.

"I... I can swim," she said, her attention still focused on the signs of death in the room. "What now? What happened here?"

“You dare disssturb our ssslumber,” asked a serpentine voice from the darkness. There was a hiss from in the darkness of the room and eyes began to open and stare at the two present.

“Naga,” Ry’nn said beneath her breath and grimaced. They were nasty creatures and manipulative ones. Their Queen would be here somewhere in the dark too. Naga were never without one and she could do terrible things with just a look.

“Do not stare them in the eye and if you see the Queen—she will be noticeable—close your eyes immediately unless you want to be turned to stone,” Ry’nn instructed quietly. She began to remove her robes and strip down until there was no clothing left on her body aside from a few choice pieces to keep her modesty. It would be easier to swim without her heavy mages’ robes.

“We sssee you, mage. Come clossser to usss.”

Ebony let out a loud gasp, immediately closing her eyes. She had noticed Ry'nn removing most of her clothes, but Ebony had no intention of doing the same. Taking a small step back, she said in a very low voice, "What do we do? How do we get past them? Can we fight them?" She tried to focus her powers, tried to concentrate, but as she suspected, she had little magical energy within her. Making sure her head was pointed downwards, Ebony opened her eyes slowly, making sure that the legs she saw were Ry'nn's and not some sort of creature. "What do we do?" she whispered, her voice quiet but filled with fear and worry. Part of her wanted to see these creatures, but the fear of turning to stone or whatever else these beings could do to her was enough of a reason not to indulge her curiosity.

Ry’nn was beginning to wonder why this girl was chosen from the cowardice that was showing through during this trial. She did not show it, but Ry’nn was disappointed. But, the Mother worked in mysterious ways and there was a destiny for Ebony to meet. The first step was getting her the stone; a stone that Ry’nn could not touch herself.

“We swim to the other side. You must go too for I cannot touch the stone. It is destined for you, not me.” Ry’nn walked further into the room with her staff in hand and stepped in what seemed to be a puddle at their feet. The further she walked, the darker it got and the deeper the water rose up along her legs.

As it rose to her waist, Ry’nn stopped and turned towards Ebony.

“This may be uncomfortable,” she stated before placing a hand on the girl’s throat. She would feel her skin ripping and tearing but it would not be painful. Ry’nn was granting Ebony temporary gills in order to be able to breath beneath the water of the tower.

“Are you ready?”

Ebony bit her lips, feeling the strange sensation of the skin on her neck turning to gills. She didn't chance glancing upwards, but suspected that the water was deeper than where they currently stood. "I'm ready," she said, looking to Ry'nn's legs. She considered asking what the stone was for, but suspected that the woman would tire of her constant questioning and curiosity. "I'm ready."

Taking a few steps deeper into the water, Ebony lowered herself down, letting herself get used to the temperature. She waited patiently for Ry'nn, not knowing what way to go. She glanced ahead of her, into the water, wondering if the naga creatures that Ry'nn had mentioned waited for them beneath the surface. Ebony prayed that Ry'nn had some means of defending them; Ebony knew nothing about fighting underwater in the first place, let alone with barely any power.

Ry’nn dove beneath the waters and instantly there was a swarm of naga around them. They hissed and swam at the two intruders, trying to grab at hands, ankles, and legs. Ry’nn was more used to having gills and filling water pass through her lungs. She was able to react fast in order to protect Ebony.

She wheeled her staff around and the seaweeds under the surface moved under her command. The slimy tendrils wrapped around the six naga surrounding them and held the creatures fast. At the far side, beneath the water still, was a light—a beckon that beckoned for Ebony to near it.

It almost seemed to call her name.

Another naga had come from the depths of the ‘ocean’ inside the tower and wrapped its hand around Ry’nn. The mage was drug under the water at amazing speed.

Ebony was left all alone.

Noticing movement all around her, Ebony looked back to see Ry'nn being pulled away from her. Ebony cried out, her voice turning into nothing but bubbles underneath the water. The naga were being restrained by Ry'nn's magic - she hoped that the woman would be able to deal with all of those creatures...

Her attention turned towards the light underneath the water. Ebony remembered Ry'nn's warning, wondering if it was a trick or what she was here for. There was no way that she could help Ry'nn, and she didn't know how long the magical gills would last underneath the water.

Ebony pointed herself in the direction of the light, closed her eyes and focused on the call it seemingly sent out to her, then started to swim towards it, only taking a peek at what was underneath her every few seconds before shutting her eyes once again and continuing forwards.

She hoped what little power she had left would be enough if it was indeed a trap.

All was quiet beneath the water. There were eyes on Ebony but they did not move towards her. The naga were being held at bay and allowed her to pass without resistance.

The stone grew brighter and brighter as the girl neared it. It urged her forward still and with greater intensity as if time were running out. The Water Stone rested on a pedestal which had barnacles and coral crowing on and around it. It was the sole source of light.

There was no sign of Ry’nn. There was no telling if she had been able to fight of the naga that pulled her down or if it had killed her.

There was only the stone, the watching naga, and Ebony.

Ebony continued to force herself through the water, swimming blindly, not knowing what laid ahead of her other than the glowing light. Was it the Water Stone that she had been sent here for? She hoped it was as she pushed her hands through the water, pushing herself harder as she approached the shine that she could tell even through shut eyes that was growing brighter and brighter...
