Vasantha was unfamiliar with these parts, and the reputation that had built up around them over time. There had, of course, been a briefing, but those were notoriously lacking in the pertinent information. There had been no mention of the shocking lack of transporter range in the vicinity of the tavern called 'Gambit's Bar', for example, which Vasantha was now discovering.

All the same, Vasantha was not one to be easily put off by something as small-scale as a transporter malfunction. Such things happened every day. Though, if Vasantha was going to be superstitious about these things- at least there wasn't a red jerkin anywhere in sight.

It was rancid in the bar, in all senses of the word, but Vasantha was not one to be intimidated by some backwater alien dive. With that in mind, the hooded jacket that had been protecting Vasantha from the worst of the elements outside came off, cast aside onto a chair.

The creature underneath was not as human as shape dictated; covered in a soft, mottled green-white down, with overly large, slanted grey eyes and a series of complex ridges across the forehead, Vasantha was clearly alien.

Thin lips twisted up into something akin to a smile, revealing a double row of small, sharp teeth parted in the centre. This place was dank, and full of dark emotion, but Vasantha actually rather liked it.

Vasantha flinched a little as the door opened to admit a creature so brimming with hatred that it caused a sudden, violent moment of pain before Vasantha found a way of blotting it back out again. Thankfully, there was another who had come in with the intention to distract. Vasantha smiled.

"No offence taken- you certainly didn't mean to offend me, so I will take it as the compliment it is. Good day. My name is Vasantha."

A webbed, three fingered hand extended in the typical human greeting.

"T'Chen," Vasantha said simply, with an expression of deep pleasure. It was always wonderful to meet such an accepting person, and his excitement was satisfying. "I am a cross-bred species from the planet T'Chen, the result of the union between the Reole and the Dara."

It likely made no sense at all, but to Vasantha it was perfectly logical. "It's irrelevant, really. I am an alien, at least from your point of view. From my point of view, however, you are the alien."

"In more ways that you can ever imagine," Vasantha said with a smile. "However... perhaps we could move to a slightly less, how shall we say, chaotic environment? There is a great deal of noise and negative thought in here, and I find that it's rather dampening my enthusiasm."

There was a faint crease between Vasantha's eyebrows, suggesting that the tension was literal, rather than figurative. "I would be honoured to drink with you, but the feel of this place is giving me something of a migraine."

"Come, this way." Vasantha didn't know the area, but the ship had managed a limited surface scan before dropping the scouting party into the area, so Vasantha had at least something of an idea of where they should be heading.

Vasantha huffed out a relieved breath when the bar shrunk into the distance and the bright spark of Felix's mind became the centre of perception again. "What is that place?"

Vasantha nodded slowly, apparently giving the issue deep thought. "The people there- so much hatred and so many shallow, reasonless emotionless thoughts. I don't understand how such a thing is possible. I have never encountered the like before. Is it normally so- so strange?"
