Outside the house an unmarked black sedan lie in waiting, lights off and inconspicuously parked in an alleyway. The individual inside was watching the NPA Vehicle, and the black van that had info forwarded to him by moles within the NPA and the WCPD.

The mysterious man waited and watched. He would conduct his own questioning after the NPA Agent had left, in secret and with impunity.

As he entered the city he was cautious. "Another fucking warp? What is going on?" Kakaze was getting tired of being flung around like a time doll of some sort so his normal kind demeanor was fading quickly. "This place is amazing though, someone here should have some god damn answers." he thought aloud as he continued walking. "Strange i haven't ran into one state alchemist though..or even a normal one like myself, or military..hmm even weirder." He kept his eyes sharp finally arriving at what seemed to be the outside of a police station. "Well, if all else fails i assume the local authorities may be able to help me."

"Oh, stolen was it?" Pringley tried to conceal his disappointment, "uh. That's not good. Do you remember where and when it was stolen? Anything about the thief maybe?" He shook his head at the offer of a drink. "Oh! No thank you. I have a few allergies." He chuckled nervously. "Well, just dairy, gluten, sugar, eggs, nuts, shellfish and soy, really. Nothing big..." He paled. "...not that you need to know about any of that. Uh. Yeah. Sorry for explaining-" he cleared his throat, "I mean uh. Anyway. About this car..." He rubbed behind his head. "Y'see, it's been caught up in a few crimes around Wing City. We have reason to believe that the current proprietor is involved in a criminal case that we're currently investigating." He cleared his throat. "Where did you buy the car?"

"Yeah, stolen." Joshua sighed.

He stood for a few minutes trying to think about when he last had it, remembering the words O'Leary had said to him rather than what was the truth.

"I had it the other day in Wing City. Saw this bird at a cafe, got talking to her. We were going to go to the gardens but she changed her mind on me. I ended up going by myself, when I got back my van was gone." He frowned. "I thought a bird turning me down was the worst thing to happen to me that day until my van disappeared. I had to hike it back here. That is not something I want to do again. It's rare strangers will pick you up and give you a ride."

Joshua sighed, "trust it to be my van that gets involved in a criminal case. I'm having some serious bad luck in life right now. I hope its not too serious. Can you tell me what happened?"

"I bought the van....hmmm.... maybe five years ago. Got it from some guy. Saw the sign on the window saying it was been sold." Another lie. "I can't remember his name, but I have the paperwork somewhere. Would probably take a while to find. I mean the first year I had it out and about in case I did need it, but since then I've probably filed it away somewhere... Do you need it?" He asked.

The mysterious figure continued to watch from his unmarked sedan. The NPA Agent had gone into the home, this afforded Vulpes the opportunity to get into position and ready himself to pounce on the unsuspecting Joshua.

Stepping out of the van, he made a silent run across the street and behind some bushes, then he made a quick and silent crawl into the back portion of the house, where a bedroom window greeted him.

Checking a specialized Diamondite glass cutter, he crept up against the side of the window and he cut a small hole in the glass pane. With a suction cup, he removed the glass that was cut out, and then he slid his hand into the window and he tripped the lock.

The window subsequently slid open and Vulpes slowly made his way into the house, overhearing their conversation and picking up the subtle nuances of the words.

Joshua was hiding something, Vulpes couldn't tell what, but he could tell Joshua was hiding something.

Reaching into a small leather pouch he withdrew a small metal tube, and a dart tipped with a powerful poison that would cause sudden and violent convulsions leading to a quick but painful death.

Taking the dart, he slid it into the tube and he crept into the doorway, bringing the tube to his mouth he exhaled sharply into the tube.

'Thbbt'

The dart was soon on it's way, on a trajectory right for the flesh on the side of the NPA Agent's neck, in complete silence.

Unfortunately for the young rookie, Pringley had forgotten standard NPA protocol and had failed to activate his OmniShield after entering the house. The dart stuck into the back of his neck even while he was in mid-sentence.

"Not the van, we just uh, need to-" It would be the last words he ever spoke. He fell to ground, convulsing, unable to scream. He died in agony.

Joshua was listening closely to what was being said so that he didn't mess anything up. Though when he frowned and became more alert when he dropped dead in front of him. Oh shit... a police officer dead... that wasn't good. O'Leary was going to kill him. Josh noticed the dart though, frowning further and moving to investigate.

Someone had killed the man. Was this a set up? He frowned more. He couldn't go back to O'Leary with this having happened. He would be in deep shit. He'd have to get rid of the body. Or could he call the cops? No.

Oh shit. He was in deep trouble.

The silence of the Police Officer's sudden death was split apart by the clicking of a firearm, and Vulpes emerged from his hiding place in a well pressed black suit and tie.

"That poor officer, killed in the prime of his life." The figure said, loosely holding a silenced Seburo M-5 at Joshua, while slowly walking up to him. "I can't believe you killed that Officer, Joshua." The strange man said.

"Here's how it's going to go down." Vulpes said, closing the distance with the other man before he fired at Joshua's kneecap. The 5mm Taiyou bullet searing towards it's target in complete silence.

"The whole truth, and nothing but the truth about that van." He said, pacing around Joshua. "One way or another, I know you were lying to that cop. I am not so easily deceived."

Who was this man? A rival enforcer from some syndicate? His attitude and behavior seemed to say so.

"Tell me the truth and I might be able to arrange some... compensation."

Joshua looked up at Vulpes and frowned. "You killed him?"

He frowned as the man went on before he registered the sudden pain in his kneecap as he fell to the ground, shouting in pain. "I don't know anything else. I don't know who took it. I think it might have been Brayden Drake. He's gone missing. Something was up with him the last few days. I know he's O'Leary's right hand man. Knows everything about the man." Joshua shouted, trying to back away as he held his bloody kneecap.

"He's involved with the Human Trafficking ring here. I know bits and pieces about it, but that's all I know. I remember Brayden and O'Leary talking about heading into Wing City to expand their horizons. They sell slaves on the Black Market there. I think he took my van."

Josh prayed that the man wouldn't kill him.

"I swear, that's the truth."

Vulpes scowled, and then produced a knotted wooden club resembling a Shillelagh, and he swiftly moved to bring it across Joshua's jaw.

"I'm not convinced." Vulpes spat and then he brought two fingers to jab at precise points in Joshua's neck, this would likely cause instant paralysis and a sudden lightheadedness.

"I've cut off the flow of blood to your brain, you'll be dead in seconds unless you convince me to release you."

Vulpes stared at Joshua, and then the dead NPA Agent. He had minutes until the NPA Dispatched someone to the house, and even more time until they got there, plenty of time.

"Let's start again about the van." He said, pointing to his watch.

"Clock's ticking."

"I don't know anything! That's all I know!" Josh cried out in pain. "Brayden is all up on that Human Trafficking. I swear. O'Leary's right hand man. I'm sure it's them. I hear talk about them all the time in Solinus." He groaned as his body ached in pain and he felt lightheaded. He couldn't even struggle.

"Please. I swear. That's the truth. I was with some girl. We were going to go to the gardens, she changed her mind. I went myself before heading back to my van. By the time I got back to it, it was gone." He cried in pain, the panic in his eyes.

Vulpes checked his watch again, and then with two quick jabs to the neck, Joshua was released from the pinch.

"I'll follow up with your leads. We'll be in touch Mr. Mattrix." He said, plucking the dart from the dead officer's neck and stabbing him square in the chest with the chemical cocktail. The heart would jump-start and the officer would come to consciousness in a matter of minutes.

"The human brain forgets a thousand things every day, make sure this is one of them." Vulpes said flatly before he pointed to the wall. "Turn and face the wall, count to thirty, if you turn back around I'll kill you."

Should Joshua turn to face the wall, Vulpes would slip out, and by second thirty, all there would be was Joshua and the unconscious NPA Officer.

Vulpes was nowhere to be seen.

Outside the house, a strange black sedan was sitting and idling while Vulpes watched through a pair of binoculars. This was the man the Frumentarii Infiltrator in the WCPD had told him to look for.

And now that Vulpes was here, he put the car in park and put on his sunglasses, which accented his dark brown suit and bow tie, and matching fedora with a red feather stuck in the brim.

Vulpes was out of the car now, and he had straightened his brown jacket while moving up towards the house. He was armed but it didn't show, with the Seburo BoBson concealed in his jacket, along with a myriad of other weapons. He also had forged documents on him if he needed to identify himself as some kind of official.

As he approached the front door, he gave three audible knocks, and waited for an answer.

Bray was also armed under his hoodie and jeans. He had two guns and a knife on him, as always. But Lena and Devon didn't need to know that. It was all to do with his undercover work and how he'd been trained. Always stay armed. Bray was a wary and careful person, suspicious of everyone and everything, and he'd noted the black sedan with little interest, but he had noted that it was there. He wasn't worried though. His files were confidential and classified.

When there was a knock on the door, Bray frowned. Only Alyssa knew he lived here. He wasn't expecting her. He handed Devon over to Lena and made sure she was out of the direct path when he opened the door. He didn't open the door wide, and had one hand behind him, settled on a handgun stored there. He frowned as he saw the man there that he didn't recognise.

"Can I help you?" Bray simply asked.

Maybe it was one of O'Leary's detectives. Someone he hadn't met before.

Vulpes peered into the door, his eyes meeting Bray's. This man would pose a challenge. "Brayden Drake, I'd like a word." He said calmly, before he slowly reached into his jacket, and then he withdrew a cigarette.

"Before you shut the door in my face, there's a nuclear warhead somewhere in this neighborhood set to go off unless I disarm it. I have ample time to clear the blast radius but I doubt you would be able to clear the blast radius in time." Vulpes said without even flinching.

"Step outside and have a word with me, tell your family I'm an old friend. I'd hate to set off this bomb and have un-needed bloodshed."

Bray frowned at the man's words, but he didn't want to get Lena and Devon hurt. It was a big lie. Bray was sure of it. Who in their right mind would have a nuclear warhead in the city? In fact, why wouldn't he have heard of it before now, if there was.

"Hey, Lena, I just need to talk to this guy. Friend from work, I'll be just outside. Make yourself at home, look in the rooms and everything. I'm just going to be outside this door. Won't be too long. Just need to sort out a small problem. Sorry about this." Bray told her before stepping outside and closing the door behind him.

He glanced at the man that had interrupted his family time and frowned. "A nuclear bomb? Is that the best you got? Either you have a bomb on you right now, or you're lying for another reason. So, what do you want?" Bray wasn't impressed. His hand kept a good grip on the gun behind him. Bray was a skilled liar, he knew when to lie to get something he wanted. This man wanted something with him. All Bray had to do was find out what it was.

Vulpes nodded back to the car, pulling his jacket only slightly to reveal a detonator of some kind. He wasn't lying.

"I stopped by and visited an old friend of yours, I should have nailed him to the wall and left him to die, but I wanted to save the best for later." Vulpes said, tossing a photograph of a bloodied and dying Joshua towards Brayden. Taken with a small pen camera in Vulpes' jacket.

"I'm looking for someone, and in the course of my investigation, this man mentioned you by name, He also mentioned an O'Leary. I want to know more about this O'Leary and where to find him. So let's make this fairly straight forward. I'm looking for a woman, a big winged woman, kinda hard to miss. And a little birdie told me that a human trafficking ring is involved. One you may or may not also be involved with, So it's simple, you tell me something useful, and you never see me again." He then peered to the house.

"If you deceive me, I pray that the insurance policies of your lover and child are paid up, because i will have them both scourged and crucified on your front lawn."

Bray took the photograph, frowning as he looked at the man. Joshua? What the fuck was going on? "I know of this guy, but I haven't seen or talked to him in a long time. I have no idea what shit he's gotten himself into, but I'm out of that. I have been for a while. The only reason I know of him is because I spent a long time doing undercover work. I've been out of that for a while now."

He sighed. "O'Leary has a business in Solinus, Human Trafficking. That's all I can tell you about him." Okay so that wasn't the whole truth, but Bray wasn't going to make himself a prime target for O'Leary to find him, his own wife, and Devon. "I have no idea if they took the woman you are looking for, don't care either, but they often trade them on the Wing City Black Market. Or that's where they were trading them when I was there."

Bray handed the photo back over to Vulpes. "I'm sorry that I can't be of more help. But I've been out of that for a while now. I have no idea what they're doing. That's all I know."

Vulpes frowned, he didn't like this one bit. He was getting nowhere.

"Do you love your family?" Vulpes asked, as he took a laser pointer and pointed it in what seemed like a random direction, a Frumentarius on a nearby rooftop was poised and lying in wait.

An Aschen fuel rod cannon was leveled on the house below as the second Argosian agent got a good firing trajectory.

"A pity that's all you know, because you never told me anything useful." Vulpes said, slowly backing away from the house but not turning his back on Brayden. "Perhaps I should squeeze Joshua of more information, unless you're willing to help me find O'Leary so I can close this case."

A red dot appeared on the side of the house, one that could be clearly seen, it was obvious someone was aiming something at the house.

As soon as this guy was gone, Bray was moving his family. "I told you! He's in Solinus City! I don't know anything about the girl you're looking for. Why did he even give you my name? I don't get it. I haven't seen this guy in nearly a year. Why would he just give you my name, when I haven't been undercover in a year?"

Bray was frustrated. "O'Leary is living in Solinus. I can't give an address because I don't know it." He knew it. Lena and Devon knew it. But for their safety he couldn't give it. Heck, he didn't even know if O'Leary was still at the same place. Bray had disappeared from them suddenly. He'd upped and left without a word and now O'Leary was hunting for him, deeming him MIA.

"Look, tell me why you questioned Josh in the first place about this woman's disappearance? Maybe with insight to what they're like I can give you information that will help you. Whatever reason he bought my name into this, it was a lie. I have nothing to do with this missing girl. I'm not sure he has, but if you tell me why you questioned him, maybe I can help."

He saw the red dot and frowned. Lena and Devon were in there. He couldn't get them out of there. He needed to get them out of there!

Vulpes simply shrugged. "It is the way things are, you did not provide me with useful information, so I have seen it fit to terminate your family."

Vulpes stopped short of the street to answer his question. "Because she was kidnapped from some very powerful people, and my employers have seen it fit to go through any means to recover her. Josh was a lead, you are a lead in bringing this woman safely back to where she belongs."

He held up his hand, staying the oncoming attack for just a moment.

"You tell me something useful, and I will spare your family. If you cannot, or you don't know, then I pity you. But i grow tired of these games. Solinus is a big city, you're not helping me so I have no choice but to punish you for your ignorance, or perhaps..."
Vulpes' eyes narrowed.

"Your deception."

"I'm telling you, I don't know why he said my name!"

Bray knew nothing about the missing woman, or the events that led up to Joshua being a lead. He was running out of options here. He needed to save Lena and Devon. They were right there, in his apartment, somewhere he'd thought was safe and because of some idiot he used to work with had mentioned his name in something he wasn't involved in, Bray had no idea what to do or what he was now involved in.

"Why did Josh become a lead? He knows where O'Leary lives. I know he knows because he's O'Leary's right hand man. He goes in and out of that guys house in Solinus all the time." It was time to drop Josh in it. Bray was telling the truth. He had people he kept tabs with, that told him what O'Leary was doing and stuff, but he knew nothing of this. Little did he know that both Lena and Devon knew about this woman and had both seen her.

"I don't know why he said my name. You haven't told me why he gave my name, or what he accused me of doing, to lead you to me about this missing woman. How am I supposed to give useful information when I have no idea where this girl went missing, when she was taken, how she was taken or what Joshua has even told you to lead you here. The least you could do is give me those answers so that I can tell you where I was, and what I was doing that day."

Vulpes shook his head. "I think you misunderstand. I want O'Leary, He will lead me to the woman." Vulpes said. "I don't suspect you were directly involved with the disappearance, I know that you're a cop. You will find that I know a great many things." Vulpes explained.

"I should have let Joshua die, he'll be impossible to find now and follow up." He then looked Brayden square in the eye, to try a different approach.

"I need you to go undercover again and bring me to O'leary. If you do that I can provide protection for your family. But I must bring this case to a close."

"I can't go back undercover." Brayden frowned. He was asking the impossible. He'd be questioned, the mistrust. He knew where O'Leary lived... He couldn't give the address though. Not with Devon and Lena at risk.

"I can't go back there. But if you give me your contact details then I can call around some old friends that do owe me favours. See what I can find out about this girl and where O'Leary is. I can't promise you anything. All I can do is try. I can give my family the protection they need. And I'm trying to help. But you're not helping. You still haven't given me anything on the case."

If only this guy knew what Bray had done, he wouldn't be simply saying he wasn't involved because he was a cop. Bray had broken every rule of the book when undercover. He'd crossed, double-crossed and triple-crossed people. Of course, his files wouldn't state that because they didn't even know what he'd done.

"Are you really going to kill two innocent people because one person doesn't know anything? A four year old child, one of them? They have nothing to do with this and neither do I. Making threats against me is one thing, but against a woman and child that I care about is another thing. I am trying to help you. Now give me the information on the case that I want, so that I can try and understand why I was fucking dragged into something that I know nothing about!" Bray was getting frustrated and angry at this man.

And he was afraid that because he had no idea what this guy was talking about, that his lover and his child would be killed as a consequence.

Vulpes scowled.
"I've done far worse for far less of a provocation." He said, taking a piece of paper and a pen. "Her name is Shanthi Hakkar, she's an Avorian diplomat that was kidnapped in Wing City." He said, handing Brayden a license plate card. "This is the plate to the van, and a picture of the woman." He said, handing him a picture of Shanthi.

"If you do get any information, contact Haruo Arakawa with the ISSP, he's here in Wing City staying at this address. Haruo will contact me with any developments you give him. But my contact information must remain secret."

"If during the course of my investigation I find out you've witheld information or deceived me, there will be no place on Terra for you and your family to hide. Take that as you will, but as you've found thus far, I am a very resourceful individual, and I will find you."
