Xalgan Barlek's Story

The door of the infamous bar swung open with a mild creak. A mysterious figure cloaked in shadow stood in the doorway. He was clad in a long cloak and cape that was as black as the deepest reaches of space. His hood was pulled over his face. Two glowing red pinpoints of light scanned the room from beneath the concealing darkness of the hood. After a short silent moment he began a slow yet deliberate trek to a darkened booth. The echo of metallic boots softly echoed throughout the room, followed by a low hiss.

The cloaked figure glared at the new man from beneath his dark hood. His glowing red - almost robotic - eyes narrowed on his form. Pathetic. Was this all that the Intelligence Office could get these days? A low audible hiss of a respirator resonated from beneath the hood, followed by a soft gust of air.

"Your name. Now." the dark figure commanded. His voice sounded dignified, authoritative, and rang with a metallic tone.

"I assume you know why you are here..." he replied calmly. "You have been given a task by my associates, and now I am here to inspect. Now tell me, insect, what is the situation of this world? Is there a Republic presence? What about any Cartels that we can 'sway' to our... point of view? Brief me on everything you have learned..."

A low growl resonated from beneath the man's hood. "So you are telling me that you have failed in your mission..." Josu would then feel a growing pressure on his windpipe like an invisible hand. "You had one job... Do you know what Sith do to those who are weak? Do you know what what the Empire does to a cog that has out-lived its usefulness?"

The Sith leaned in closer to the man. Beneath the hood, the dull glow of his cybernetic eyes illuminated his bone-white skin. He could smell his fear, and he relished it. Xalgan was very annoyed by this man, but he also saw a sliver of potential still in him. He was also in a relatively good mood...

"You are lucky I am one of the more merciful Sith. I will give you another chance, but be forewarned. If you fail me, or the Empire, again... your life will be forfeit. I will personally hunt down every one of your friends and your family before feeding your limbs to a rancor... Do you understand?"

"Good..." the Sith smiled wickedly, though none would know besides the tone of his metallic voice. He released the telekinetic grip on the man's throat. "Now get out of my sight, worm. Here's a piece of advice... Never outlive your usefulness. Like a dead and diseased appendage, you will be cut off from the body."

The mysterious cloaked figure slid into a darkened booth in a secluded corner of the room. From beneath the dark hood he observed the other patrons. Occasionally a soft hiss emanated from the concealing darkness, where the faint crimson glow of two cybernetic eyes illuminated the paleness of his skin. He took note of Cryo's comment. No matter. Soon this world will learn its place.

"I will take your insolence as ignorance of my identity, Hoth-spawn." he said calmly with a tint of respite. His voice bore a distinctive layer of metallic static. "In the future, however, I would advise that you refrain from such comments regarding a Sith." Xalgan finished before his gaze found Sosrioser. What was a Mirialan doing all the way out here? Almost immediately the Sith began to cross-reference the alien's face with Imperial records through several unseen cybernetic implants.

Blast. Only about seventy percent... Not even to justify killing the man in public. Besides, tracking down traitors and criminals was not his current mission. He had to stay with the objective.

The Sith continued to observe the patrons from his darkened booth. Why was he here again? Was his master really just sending him off to some backwater planet to get him out of the way? Xalgan hoped not. His thoughts drifted back to his early days in the Order.

"A Sith's work is never finished, it seems." he said to his master after being sent on yet another assignment.

"As it should. When I stop giving you work - that's when you should worry. Never out-live your usefulness if you know what's good for you..." echoed the reply of his master.

A sharp beeping sound chirped from within the folds of the Sith's cloak. He reached a gauntleted hand into the garment and withdrew a small metallic disk. Xalgan pressed a side button and a blue hologram materialized above the disk. It was of a man clad in semi-formal military wear with the markings of an officer.

"My lord." it said. "We are having some technical difficulties with the ship's hyper drive. I am afraid we will be on this planet a bit longer than anticipated..."

"Blast..." grumbled the Sith. A low mechanical hiss exhaled from beneath his hood. "Noted, Captain. I will be there shortly..."

It was then that the cloaked man rose from his seat and strode in the direction of the door. His cybernetic eyes - revealed as only two glowing red lights from beneath his dark hood - narrowed on the two entries. Their identities were blatantly obvious to him. The first bore the distinctive armor of a bounty hunter, while the second radiated with the brighter side of the Force. It disgusted him.

The Sith stopped ten paces away from the bounty hunter and glared angrily at him through the dark concealing shadow of his hood. His glowing red eyes narrowed at the figure with distaste.

"Step aside, worm." he stated. "It is ill advised to cross my path. You must not know who I am. Otherwise your knees would likely be quaking in terror of my presence."

Xalgan smirked in mild amusement as the drunk "assaulted" the bounty hunter. He decided to use the distraction to his advantage. With a single twitch of the Sith's forefinger, Jolo would find himself being yanked into the air and dangled by his throat from an invisible and ethereal hand. The Sith would then flick his wrist, sending the mandalorian flying into the wall. Assuming the hunter momentarily taken care of, the Sith strode for the door.

When Xalgan didn't hear the satisfying crunch of bones hitting concrete and metal like he was used to, he knew his minor attack had not gone as smoothly as he hoped. He had underestimated the bounty hunter - a mistake he would not make twice. With another flick of his wrist, a nearby table launched into a flip and landed between the laser blast and the Sith.

A deafening roar of fury erupted from the cloaked man as he leaped into the air. From within the folds of his cloak emerged the iconic cylinder of a lightsaber hilt. It spun rapidly through the air as the red beam expanded from the base - forming a makeshift shield against another possible attack.

The distance between the bounty hunter and Sith was closed in the blink of an eye. His landing signaled a devastating shockwave that sent several chairs, tables, and plateware crashing across the room as a ferocious electrical maelstrom surged around Xalgan's body. Gripped in one of his gauntlets was the red lightsaber, which was directed in an upward slash towards Jolo's midsection.

Xalgan snarled angrily at the bounty hunter as he almost effortlessly deflected the disruptor blast with the lightsaber. He recoiled slightly at the fire, which engulfed the majority of his body. However, it barely phased him as he outstretched his pointed finger towards the door.

"I WILL TEAR YOU APART!!!" he thundered at the hunter's back.

A moment passed before Xalgan suddenly remembered he was on fire. His lightsaber retracted and he began to furiously beat the tongues of flame that snaked up his cloak. Most of his body was consumed in smoke. Once the flames were subdued, the Sith fell to one knee in a violent and sporadic coughing fit.

The door of the infamous bar swung open with a mild creak. A mysterious figure cloaked in shadow stood in the doorway. He was clad in a suit of full body armor that was as black as the deepest reaches of space. A black sealed metallic helmet concealed his face. With machine-like precision he scanned the room from beneath the concealing darkness of the visor. After a short and silent moment he began a slow yet deliberate trek to a darkened booth. The echo of metallic boots softly echoed throughout the room, followed by a low hiss.

The mysterious armored figure slid into a darkened booth in a secluded corner of the room. From behind the dark visor he observed the other patrons. Occasionally a soft hiss emanated from the complex respirator that gripped the front of his fortified neck. He folded his arms and sighed from within his helmet. Lord Barlek could sense the emotions of every one in the room. There was pain lurking behind their eyes. Pain and hate - and it fueled him.

It was then that he saw the other dark figure enter the room. Another Sith? Strange... He had thought he was the only one of the Order in this part of the galaxy.

Xalgan unfolded his arms and gestured to the seat in front of him with a gauntleted hand. "Greetings, brother." the Sith replied. His voice sounded dignified, though it bore a the distinctive metallic hiss of a respirator. "I always have time for a fellow Sith. Tell me... What brings you to this corner of the galaxy? You are the first Imperial I have seen..."

"My crew and I were stopping here to conduct some business and a mission for the Empire. Unfortunately, our hyper drive has been damaged. So it appears that I will be staying here for longer than expected. Fortunately, this allows me to conduct my mission here with more depth."

"I agree... These backwater Terrans didn't even know what a refabrication pulser was! I prefer to have my crew close by. They are good resources for my travels." Xalgan raised his eyebrow beneath his helmet at the mention of the rogue agent. "Interesting... Some elaboration is required. Perhaps we can help each other in our goals?"

"None can withstand the power of the dark side..." Xalgan regurgitated. The propaganda of the Empire and brainwashing of the sith ran deeply within him. That didn't mean he was wrong, however. Dozens of jedi had fallen to this man's lightsaber - even a few Masters. "While I am here, I will work to secure any influence I can for the Empire. Currently I am just waiting for one of my crew to scrounge up a new hyper drive from the black market. So there is no telling how long I will be here."

Lord Xalgan gave Rolak a nod before glancing over at Krast'adun. The sith could feel his uneasiness, and it intrigued him. Out of curiosity, his cybernetic eyes attempted to capture an image of his appearance and cross-reference it with Imperial records.

"Hmm... Classified." Xalgan thought to himself. "Judging from the enhanced imaging from the photonic relays... This one would seem to be a Chiss. Must be an Imperial Agent. Perhaps he could be of use..." He was on good standing with the agency. The Sith had received several commendations from them for his service and aid.

A sharp beeping sound chirped from the Sith's wrist. He lifted his gauntleted hand. Xalgan pressed a button and a blue hologram materialized above the disk. The hologram depicted a stunning twi'lik woman in casual wear. There was a blaster strapped to her waist.

"Hey boss!" she said. "I think I have someone willing to sell a prototype hyper drive, but it seems pretty fishy to me. Mind if you go check it out? I'm sure you could handle any sort of trap."

The Sith paused a moment before speaking. "Very well, Vette. Send me the coordinates. Good work."

"See you later..." the twi'lik hologram said before it vanished.

It was then that the figure in the dark body armor rose from his seat and strode for the door.

He was clad in a suit of full body armor that was as black as the deepest reaches of space. A black sealed metallic helmet concealed his face. Flowing behind him was a long black cape that gently grazed the ground. Across his waist were several compartments and other metallic gadgets. One such object was a long cylindrical chrome device that was covered in small lights and buttons. On one end was a hollow indentation.

With machine-like precision he scanned the room from beneath the concealing darkness of the visor. After a short and silent moment he began a slow yet deliberate trek to a darkened booth near the counter. The echo of metallic boots softly echoed throughout the room, followed by a low hiss. An aura of terrible malice and dark ambition surrounded him.
