In the year 3456, a king built a wall, separating the rich and the poor. The ones outside the wall are called Outlanders. The ones inside the wall are called Inlanders. The king is called the Protectorat, and is the richest man alive. He lives in a huge castle, with a wife, a daughter, and two sons. The kingdom inside the wall is called the Enclave. Everyone outside the wall serves the Enclave. A maiden with a scarred leg lives with her father and mother outside the wall. Her mother is a Midwife, and delivers babies in their Sector, which is Western Sector Three. Her mother has to give the first three strong babies of each month to the Enclave, to be adopted out by rich Inlanders. All Midwives do. Sometimes they even have to give up their own babies, against their will. But then the young maiden's parents are captured by soldiers of the Enclave, and now she must travel with two of her friends to unravel the past and save her parents. But what will they discover along the way?

He adopted a son, then married a woman who gave him a pair of twin girls, one that died, and the other lived. Then produced another baby boy.

Backstory: Born inside the wall, she is very much younger than the Protectorat, and only married him for his money and jewels. Was distraught when her first daughter, Lia, was found lying outside in a puddle of blood. Lia had fallen out of the window in her room. Lia was the dead twin that was fathered by the Protectorat.

Backstory: Born to Derek and Alicia Mason, Terra's mother was the one who helped Alicia give birth to him. He was adopted by the Protectorat, and used to be the prince. But after accidentally kissing his younger half sister, Lia, he was condemned to die. But instead, he pleaded mercy and now serves as Captain for the soldiers. He has pledged to help Terra, after she helped him discover who his true parents were.

Backstory: Melinda and Tom Liams had three children, two older sons who had to be given to the Enclave and a daughter, named Terra. Terra has a long scar on her leg
from 'walking' into a hot vat of beeswax when she was younger, and couldn't be given to the Enclave because of that imperfection. Instead, she grew up with her real parents, learning to sew from her father, who was a tailor, and was training to be a Midwife, just like her mother. But now that her parents are gone, Terra must unravel the past to save them. And to also save humanity.
