H A I R ─xxxAlmost black, worn in braids that go past her shoulders

A P P E A R A N C E ─xxxSome people are described to look like porcelain dolls, Uma, on the other hand, looks a lot like a doll made out of bones. Sharp features such as a strong jaw, high cheekbones, sunken cheeks and feline eyes help create an aura of mystique and exotism around her. Her dark complexion is a reminder of where she’s really from, as well as her Afrolatin features like her full lips and small but wide nose. She might not stand as tall as some of her siblings, but what she lacks in height, she makes up for in body proportions. Her slim, sleek and fit body allowed her to not rely entirely on her powers when on a mission, and she managed to be as hard of an opponent as anyone bigger than her.

Uma had never thought of herself as beautiful, she never fit in society’s traditional beauty standards, until she grew up and left the Academy. Once fully independent, she learned to appreciate her Caribbean genetics and show them off well.

O D D I T I E S ─ xxxSeveral tattoos in her hands, arms, torso and legs, as well as multiple ear piercings and a septum ring.

S T Y L E ─ xxxUma hated their uniform, she always felt it fit too tight and too uncomfortable. Plus, it didn’t help that she carried oil pastels around all the time in her pockets in case a vision hit her and she had to sit down and draw on the go, so her uniform was always stained one way or another. Once she left and was finally able to dress the way she wanted, Uma chose to wear baggy clothes, layered shirts, long skirts, leather boots, sweatshirts and jackets most of the time. She likes to think of her style to be almost like an urban hippie.

P O W E R S ─

Precognition ;xxxThe power to perceive future events before they happen. Uma has the ability to foresee possible futures and observe what may happen. However, since the future is fluid and always changing, she isn't always 100% reliable, and has to be vigilant to see all the changes that may occur. Her ability manifests itself in different ways, and is far from flawless when predicting.

Astral Premonition ;xxxSome of Uma's visions are manifested through astral projection, which means that she is able to gain knowledge from the future by actually traveling to it in her astral form, but she cannot control when they come or go. They most regularly occur when she's sleeping, deeply relaxed, or intoxicated. The worst thing about Astral Premonition is that she is able to share the emotional and physical pain of the future, and her astral form remains defenseless when she travels, meaning she cannot change anything while in that state. When projecting, Uma enters a trance-like state and she was trained to pick up her notebook and start drawing what she sees to show people later.

Danger Intuition ;xxxSir Reginald Hargreeves's favorite power from Uma. Works like a sixth sense for danger, she is able to feel impending threats, but usually within minutes or seconds from it happening. This ability helped her in hand-to-hand combat, as she was able to sense where the danger was coming from, and evade attacks effectively, as well as alert her siblings if they were on a mission and something was about to go wrong.

Death Sense ;xxxHer most hated ability. She can sense the coming of death, but only of people she's close to emotionally or within close proximity to her. Uma has learned that she can never change the path of death, only be prepared for it.

+xxCunning ;xxxUnlike her siblings, Uma could never fully rely on her powers to survive or fight like them. That's why she relies more on her wits than anything else, She learned how to be mentally resourceful and achieve her goals through deceit.

+xxObservant ;xxxThe constant flow of external information and visions from the future used to stun Uma, sometimes leaving her unconscious if the visions and feelings were too intense. That is why she learned to be quick, to notice little details and remember them, staying continually alert.

+xxCreative ;xxxWhen the visions first started, Uma had trouble remembering them in great detail, and this angered Hargreeves a lot. From a young age, he trained her in Fine Arts, focusing on drawing and painting, so she could now combine her powers with her artistry and be able to show him the visions she saw. This continued on as the years went by, and Uma kept drawing and painting even though they weren't based on her visions.

-xxTender ;xxxIf there's something Hargreeves couldn't stand Uma for, it's her softhearted demeanor. He always pushed her to keep a thick skin, but having seen so many visions of horrible outcomes for the future throughout the years, it became nearly impossible for her to keep a straight face. She feels too much, she suffers for others, and sometimes even breaks down from the emotions.

-xxDrugs ;xxxTo cope with the horrible visions and her dreaded Death Sense, Uma turned to any substance that could numb her as soon as she discovered what alcohol and drugs were. She has been struggling with painkiller addiction for multiple years now. She also usually steers clear from hallucinogenic drugs, since they don't numb the pain, but actually increase her powers to see visions from the future more clearly.

-xxHer siblings ;xxxThey might've gotten separated by life as the years went by and one by one each of them left the Academy, and even though they're not her blood, they are the only family she knows. If anything were to happen to any of them, it would kill her to sense it before she could do anything to stop it.

L I K E S ─
Growing up, the Academy was all Uma ever knew, she was constantly busy studying, training or practicing her powers. So once she finally left and entered the real world, she wanted nothing to do with her old self. She bought a small house in Venice Beach and started her business as an artist and a part-time psychic. She developed a liking for the occult, and a talent for Tarot, Palmistry, Tasseography and Crystal readings. Her favorite hobby, painting, became her primary source of income and she started to dabble into more diverse art forms like sculpting, printmaking, and photography. Her house plants and her cat, MarΓa, are like her children. She enjoys staying home, and reading, as well as collecting old jazz vinyls for her record player. She sometimes goes out to skate around the neighborhood, and mainly sticks to herself. She doesn't have many friends and prefers to do stuff alone.

D I S L I K E S ─
The main thing Uma hates, and would do anything to get rid of, are her powers. Sure, if it wasn't for them, who knows what her life would've been like, and she'd never have met her siblings either. But Uma hates what they've done to her, they've made her depend on painkillers to numb the visions, and push people away from her, fearing she'll someday sense their death. Other than that, Uma doesn't like meat, hence why she's vegetarian (a topic that made for a lot of arguments with Hargreeves when she didn't want to finish her food in the Academy). She hates going out, crowded places, and getting a prediction completely wrong. She also really hates scary movies and would rather watch a sappy rom-com any day over a slasher film.

Q U I R K S ─
Smoking, biting her nails, she always carries a picture of her and her siblings in her wallet, she's always sleepy because her powers take away a lot of energy from her, she calls everybody by their first names (waiters, teachers, costumers, old people), and she wears red lipstick almost every day because she likes how it makes her lips appear fuller.

F E A R S ─
Death (her own and her loved ones), dogs and getting lost in a crowded place.

P E R S O N A L I T Y ─

Down-to-earthxxxxxReservedxxxxxSoftheartedxxxxxTrustworthyxxxxxIntroverted

QuietxxxxxWittyxxxxxHelperxxxxxHumblexxxxxSimple

Growing up being constantly pushed to be better, to do better, to be perfect, to save the world, Uma is anything but stuck-up and intense like her father, Hargreeves. She's the complete opposite of what he wanted her to be, she's empathic, sentimental, soft and fragile. She used to cry a lot when she was younger, one of her worst memories is saving a little bird with a broken wing, and a few days later, sensing his death, only to find out Hargreeves had killed it because it would distract her from her duties.

She always felt a little distant from her siblings, like a wallflower, silent but always present. She spent a lot of time alone, Hargreeves made sure of that, so she had no distractions in case a vision came. And sadly that meant little time for socializing. She's a little shy, quiet and would rather stay silent than stand up for herself. She rarely gets angry and has always had a tranquil vibe. Uma enjoys spending time alone and is more of a listener than a talker.

That said, she's very, very smart. What she lacks in strength, she makes up for in cunningness and intellect. She has a smart sense of humor and a lot of wit, if one's patient enough to gain her trust and hear her inner monologue. She might be a softie but she's not naΓ―ve, and she might not speak up but she will never let others walk over her.

For Uma, life is simple, and happiness is her goal. She thrives on making other people happy and helping others find their way, she's thankful her powers have led her down a road of healing others through her predictions. She's very creative and enjoys letting herself go when she creates art. She dreams of one day being recognized for it, and forgetting about her past.

But her constant visions and external feelings have haunted her for too long, and she's resorted to using painkillers to numb her pain. She's usually on some meds, and the constant self-medication has toned her personality down a lot, not that it was too loud to begin with. She's turned even quieter and smiles even less, she has become a shell or a zombie of who she used to be. She's ashamed of it and even more scared to let her siblings know who she has become.

To my dear students:

If you are receiving this letter that means I’ve passed away due to natural causes. As I’m sure you are aware, I’ve made Pogo the executor of my will as well as the one to arrange the funerary services no later than a week after my death. It is my last wish that you attend my burial.

Attached below is the passcode to the drawbridge.

#19890110

Sir Reginald Hargreeves

You piece of shit.

Even in his posthumous letters, he managed to be an emotionless ghoul. Sven crumpled the letter and threw it across the room...shortly before retracting it into their hands.

They already saw the obituary in the newspaper, the black and white photographs on the Internet accompanied by shallow anecdotes, and the thinkpiece articles regarding his life as an inventor, Olympic athlete, and father to nine superheroes. Everything reeked of opportunism. It was a race to garner clicks with none of the depth. Nobody explored the experience of being an Anchor Academy student nor the ethical violations that came with weaponizing your own children.

Save for Savannah and Lucien (who they didn’t care about), the rest of their siblings left an online footprint. Everyone moved on from the academy in some form. Lucky splashed her lavish life all over Instagram. Nathan joined a rock band. Uma performed fortune readings and made sketches. Similar to Nathan, Ronan joined their own band as well. Vya...Honestly Sven didn't know what he did other than drink and hang out with Lucky's exes. After their father's death however, only Ronan and Vya claimed Reginald as their own. Everyone else either didn’t bother to post about it or did so in subtle ways.

Not that Sven would ever admit to cyberstalking their siblings.

They moved beyond the need for siblings and Anchor Academy clout. They were at peace with their nomadic lifestyle and Shisa kept them company on the days that they missed having a family. Friends were easy to come by and despite Sven's emotional emptiness, warm bodies were even easier. People sought connections regardless of what they were based on even if it meant being ghosted two weeks later.

All that mattered was that they were living their best life.

That begged the question of why they couldn't destroy that damn letter. It had been six days since it ended up in their P.O. box and they tried every method of destruction possible yet they couldn't stop themselves from restoring it each time. Whether it was ripped, burned, marked "return to sender", or ditched at someone's apartment, they reversed their decision. His words rewound in Sven’s head, mocking each failure to keep the letter shredded.

Maybe it’s worth going...for confirmation.

Reginald Hargreeves was an asshole, but he was rarely dishonest. He didn’t need to fake his death to gather everyone.

That was perhaps the reason why Sven booked a ticket to West Anne three hours after arriving home.

---

The trip itself did not present any trouble and strangely, that train ride was the best nap Sven had in a long time. Granted, it wasn’t saying much given their inconsistent sleep schedule but any rest was good rest. Even the long walk (Sven hated driving) didn’t faze them. Despite being gone for nearly a decade nearly everything remained the same. From the sea breeze to the chimes of ice cream carts, West Anne beckoned for its tourists to stay an extra day or week to soak the sunlight if not retire there altogether.

Anchor Academy was the only outlier. Its drawbridge proved imposing as ever and the creaking showed how long it had been since somebody crossed. Had everyone left that long ago? Or did their father decide to bunker down? Not that either options were mutually exclusive.

"You've your brother's grave and disobeyed my orders. Leave!"

Why am I here?

Sven bit their bottom lip. It wasn't too late to renege their decision. They could rewind their trek and draw the bridge back up. They could toss the letter into the ocean and go home. They could do just about anything to avoid traumatizing themself again.

Oh, but they didn't. They continued across the bridge, taking a deep breath as they set foot on the flagstone pavement.

"Good to see you again Mi-Sven. It has been far too long." Pogo emerged from Anchor Academy's center door in his red suit.

"Yeah..." Sven pressed their lips together, holding back a twinge of annoyance.

The person that stood before them was no longer the spry simian that taught them world history or strategy during Reginal's busy days. Pogo's hairs grayed at the ends and the bags under his eyes formed full wrinkles. His face drooped and even his back seemed the slightest bit hunched. Despite all that happened they didn't hate him. They just wished he had done more for them.

"Has anyone else come yet?" Sven asked, jostling their backpack back onto their shoulder.

"Ah, you are the first to arrive actually-" Pogo paused for a second-"but I believe that your mother has prepped tea and cookies if you wish to wait in the living room."

"You didn't need to do any of this you know."

Pogo shook his head.

"I'm fulfilling his last request just like you."

He gestured for Sven to head inside, glancing at the clouds looming in the distance.
